Speaker 1 (00:01):
We know you're busy, bills to pay, mouths to feed,
and the man eats another favor. So just in case
you missed what happened, I'm a fan today. We got your.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Back and even if you did hear it live, you
probably need to hear it again.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Here you go, all in one place and in just
one hour, the best of the best from today on
ninety three to five and one oh seven five the Fan.
This is instant replay earlier this afternoon on the Ride
with JMB.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
From the secondary of the Colts taking time out here
on the three o'clock hour to start the show. Let's
welcome in Cam buying them on the Anymore Automotive Group potline.
Hey Cam, thank you very much for the time. How
are you?

Speaker 4 (00:43):
I'm great, just got out of practice. Good day today,
all good? Thanks for having me.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
How did that buy week go? What did we do?

Speaker 5 (00:50):
Cam?

Speaker 4 (00:52):
I went and got away from the cold weather, went
to Hawaii and got on the beach just to get
some warm weather out there. Then went back to Cali
go see my family offso so it was a cool, relaxing.
I couldn't get to Yeah, I still had to stay
locked in, but I got away for a few days.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
That's a way to stay locked in, right there, Cam,
let me tell you that. And you know what, there's
no I mean, hell, you know this. You played long enough,
there's no rest. I mean, you go to a bye week,
you come back from Berlin, but now you got to
go to Arrowhead and play the Kansas City Chiefs, a
team that's five and five, disappointed about where they are

(01:30):
right now, and probably incredibly hungry.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
So there's no rest whatsoever.

Speaker 5 (01:36):
Exactly.

Speaker 4 (01:37):
Yeah, going through even just during bye week, I know
every single person on the team felt the same way.
But it was hard to get fully, you know, mentally
out of football, even though you're physically away. Everybody went
back home to see their families and just relax and
get away from the game for a little but in
the back of everybody's mind, we knew we had still
had a job to do this coming week, especially with
the challenge and other AFC opponent, and you know, obviously

(01:59):
the hist three of the team being a super experienced
team and a great team overall.

Speaker 5 (02:04):
That we're going against this week.

Speaker 4 (02:05):
So it was hard to you know, fully enjoy time
away because we're like, we're itching to get back on
that field.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
Yeah, here's Cam bind them with the Colts.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
He's kind enough to join us on the any More
Automotive Group potline. So we see the surface, right, we
see the loss last week in Denver, the five and
five mark, and where this team is and the AFC
West Right now, what do you guys see of this
Chiefs team that obviously playing against them, the average fan
would not see in this case camp, Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:33):
We see a super capable team of you know, playing
whatever type of ball that they want. They have a
quarterback that can do it all good, especially from the
defensive standpoint.

Speaker 5 (02:44):
They have players across the board.

Speaker 4 (02:46):
Every single receiver is capable of taking the game over
obviously a tight end. Really a complete team. And then
their record doesn't really show. But this is a really
good team, so we're not overlooking them at all, regardless
of what the records we know.

Speaker 5 (03:00):
We know this is an experienced team.

Speaker 4 (03:02):
So they've seen it all, they've done it all, so
we have to go out there and be the better team.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
Hey, Kim, as a player, you know, I sit here
and talking about a team it's five and five, and
maybe they feel a little desperation. Is there a desperate
feel when you know that maybe you're into a must
win situation type of mode. Is that a feeling you
have as a player actually on the field during a game.

Speaker 4 (03:26):
N me, personally, I think all that's just noise when
people say must win. Every single person in this league
goes into every single game as a must win. I
don't think anybody's going out there thinking that any week
is casual, because no week is. Every win in the
league is hard to get and every loss hurts no
matter who you play. No matter how you lose, if

(03:46):
you lose on a weekend, on a Sunday, or whenever
you play, ned never feels good.

Speaker 5 (03:51):
Every single week is going to be a test.

Speaker 4 (03:53):
So no matter who you're playing, no matter what your
record is, every week and that's just speaking as a
competitor and.

Speaker 5 (03:59):
Just any football player cross the league.

Speaker 4 (04:00):
I'm sure everybody would agree with what I'm saying that
every week feels like a must win.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
I'm gonna see if you can back me up on this.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
I have must win situations before for the Colts in
week number one, and people laugh at me, people joke
about me, people make fun of me. But you would
be in my corner on that right as far as
must win whenever you go out there. Hey, there are
certain situations, there is no doubt and if it's week one,
if it's week twelve, whatever, you got to get that
job done exactly.

Speaker 4 (04:28):
Every time you step on the field, it's a must win.
Nobody's like I said.

Speaker 5 (04:31):
Nobody, there you go, there you go Sunday.

Speaker 4 (04:35):
You got to win every single week, week one, preseason
all that must win.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
I can't buy them with the Colts on the anymore
automative group plotline. The other thing I was thinking about
is I cannot wait to see this secondary at full
strength because we're talking about you and Nick and Kenny
and you know, you know obviously Sauce Gardner out there
now after that one game of Berlin with the Falcons
in mind a week before last, and then the return

(05:02):
of Mooney, what do you feel at full strength, this
secondary that you're a part of is capable of.

Speaker 4 (05:09):
I just think we can be the best in the league,
and I think that's what we're working for. Obviously, the
names carry weight, but at the end of the day,
if we don't go out there and show it every
single week, none of that matters. So I know we're
capable of and I know, I'm confident that each one
of us can be the best, and we come together
as a full group on the defense, we can help

(05:30):
the pass rush get there so they can you know,
get their sacks and them helping us out to on
the back end. I just think the secondary will you know,
drive the drive the bus for the whole team and
set the energy and if at the end of the day,
if teams can't pass on you.

Speaker 5 (05:46):
You win the game.

Speaker 4 (05:47):
So we feel like the rest of the season is
in our hands to do our job and get every
single you know, shut down every single pass game that
we go against.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
How was that first game with Sauce guard or back
there with you guys, I he is still acclimating to
a lot of things and there are some things instinctual
I'm sure he is going with and other things that
he was, you know, still trying to learn when you
guys were in Berlin. But how was that and what
was his effect of that secondary? From what you thought, Oh.

Speaker 4 (06:15):
It was exactly what I expected out of him going
there and learn. He learned it super fast and he
locked it, locked it down.

Speaker 5 (06:23):
He did his job.

Speaker 4 (06:24):
Really well at a high level, and he was able
to come in there and put He put a lot
of work and we did a bunch of extra hours
of watching film during the week. After every single practice
and every meeting, we stayed at least an hour after
just to make sure our communication is is rolling and
that everything is perfect. Because he's he's a student of
the game. I don't know if a lot of people
know that, but and you know, most corners they just

(06:46):
focused on covering. He saw a guy him Mooney, the
rest of our secondary, all the corners in our room
pride themselves on being smart.

Speaker 5 (06:53):
So it was cool to be able to have him there.
That was a guy that's eager.

Speaker 4 (06:57):
To learn, and he learned the defenseless than a week
and that's hard to do.

Speaker 5 (07:02):
So just the type of player that he is. It showed.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
Is that the ultimate test cram right there too? I mean,
was he was basically cramming for a test?

Speaker 2 (07:11):
Right? Was that the ultimate?

Speaker 6 (07:13):
It is?

Speaker 5 (07:13):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (07:14):
Yeah, that's probably a test time ten pr west and
cool test.

Speaker 5 (07:18):
You have to say, go out there in an NFL
game and have to go back. But he showed he got.

Speaker 4 (07:24):
An A on the test in my opinion, So he
went out there and learned well and he made it
easy for me playing safety next to him and tackled well,
almost had a.

Speaker 5 (07:34):
Pick six all that. So he did he did his thing.
For sure.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
I'm thinking about me man cram up for a test
back in the day. But I didn't have to go
there and do my test in front of everybody, those
that actually know, like your coaches, your coaching staff, and
and those colleagues, and then just the world for old
dumbasses that have no idea what they're talking about.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
Like us right here.

Speaker 3 (07:54):
I mean, you're judge camp, You're judged by by everybody
for that moment.

Speaker 5 (07:59):
Yeah, put on a twenty two and then then let
us know what you would people think that you watch
the films. I'll just watch wait sure before highlight.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
Oh my god, I know.

Speaker 3 (08:11):
And I feel so bad every Monday when I come
on here and I wonder if I'm talking like twenty
five percent accuracy or not. So I'm gonna have to
start checking with you on that for sure. Just can't
buy him on the anymore automotive.

Speaker 4 (08:24):
For as long as you watch all twenty two before
any any opinion who played, then we're good.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
You want people tell me if I go back and
watch the film, I'd be more educated. I don't know
if I'd be more educated or more confused, to be
honest with you, maybe both.

Speaker 5 (08:42):
But at least you'll be able to watch the whole game.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
Okay, Cam, dude, I'm not the brightest bulb in the
pack either. That's part of the problem right there, I think.
But I'll tell you why. I got a partner right
here with me from heaven Hill Distillery. We do picks
every Thursday. Were't the free spirited castleton here in Indianapolis today?
We normally do this bent hoolvers. How's a question for you, Cam,
bind and bring go ahead.

Speaker 7 (09:02):
Yeah, Hey, Kim, I appreciate you taking time to join
us here briefly today. First first thing I want to
say is congrats. Great game over in Berlin. That big
hit costs for a funnel is awesome. I did see
a little movie trailer that you were putting out, kind
of recapping that Berlin experience out there looked pretty good.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
I saw this morning roll through on a reel.

Speaker 5 (09:23):
Yeah fair, it was yeah, just a recap of the trip.
It was fun.

Speaker 8 (09:27):
It looked great.

Speaker 5 (09:28):
Just being able to travel with the team.

Speaker 2 (09:31):
Absolutely.

Speaker 7 (09:31):
I wanted to ask you how has your transition been
to the Colts. How's it been so far coming from Minnesota?
What you know, how's that transition going for you? I
mean it looks like you're tearing it up on the field.
How you like Andy Man? How's things going?

Speaker 2 (09:44):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (09:44):
I love Indy so far. Just the whole city. Everything.
You have, everything you need.

Speaker 4 (09:48):
You have nice suburbs where you can go out and relax,
then you go downtown. It's still a really nice city,
good food, so it really has everything you need out here.
And for me, I'm a chill home by the type
of guy. So just being able to be in a
place where it's nice and relaxed, not too much going on,
I love it. So I feel like home ever since
I got here. Was able to get a house and

(10:09):
everything pretty quick, so I didn't feel like I was
swimming around trying to find too much at once. But
I just think everything becoming teammates with new people. I
was welcomed really quick and just felt like I was
family as soon as I stepped in this building, and
that helped the transition more than anything, because that's, you know,
the workplace, that's.

Speaker 5 (10:29):
Where I'm spending most hours of my day.

Speaker 4 (10:30):
So once I was able to get to know all
the people and learn people's names and not feel like
the new guy. That everything felt really really comfortable once
I was able to do that. So once I, you know,
learned everybody's name, became friends, I.

Speaker 5 (10:45):
Was like, Okay, this is home for me.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
That's awesome.

Speaker 9 (10:48):
Man.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
Well, we're lucky to have you. We're happy to have
you here.

Speaker 7 (10:50):
I do have a personal question for you, though, what
is your favorite city or stadium to play in that
outside of Lucas Oil of course, and just in what
you've played in then there interim in the NFL, what's
your favorite place to play?

Speaker 5 (11:04):
A way good question? Is it?

Speaker 4 (11:06):
Is it cheating if I say Minnesota just couldn't sit
before years.

Speaker 2 (11:10):
That's all good.

Speaker 7 (11:11):
I was thinking you might go with another NFC he's
he's edgining for lamb ball right here.

Speaker 4 (11:18):
As I would played it there, I would say that
because of the history there.

Speaker 5 (11:24):
But I played there when it was cold and that.

Speaker 4 (11:31):
Scale, so I got nonetheless, but I hate playing there.

Speaker 5 (11:36):
If we play there November or later, it's the worst.
It's the worst place to play there.

Speaker 4 (11:42):
You go, I can't say that's one of my favorite
places to play. If it's in September October.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
I can buy into that.

Speaker 3 (11:52):
I hear that here's my worst to watch, and I'm
not going Yeah, right, Cam, I'm not gonna put you
in this because you play there, come up on Sunday.
But I absolutely hate Arrowhead with a passion. I had
the most miserable experience there ever, back when the culture
and the postseason against them during the Andrew Luck era,

(12:14):
and everybody talked about how great it was and all
this is, and I thought that place was a toilet
and it sucked.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
But this is not you. This is just me right here.
I was not a fan of that.

Speaker 3 (12:23):
So go out and whip a little ass this weekend,
just specifically for that alone.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
I had zero fun there.

Speaker 3 (12:29):
But yeah, you gotta.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
I knew because that was a horrible experience.

Speaker 3 (12:35):
I mean, you know, obviously things didn't go well back
then for the Colts.

Speaker 2 (12:38):
That was one thing, but it just was not It
wasn't any fun.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
And I know that's supposed to be one of the
pinnacles of places to play, certainly in the NFL. What's
been your experience at Arrowhead in your past? How many
times have you played there?

Speaker 4 (12:51):
I played there one time my rookie year, preseason and
it was like ninety degree superhumid. So that was a
tough game because, yeah, I think it was the last
preseason game of my rookie year, so I had to
play every snap special teams and defense.

Speaker 5 (13:09):
So I was out there dying and it was hot.
It was one of those games. I was in survival
mode as a rookie. That's all.

Speaker 4 (13:14):
That's really all I remember from that game and going
out there and they played They played their starters too,
so it was like I wouldn't say welcome to the
NFL moment, but it felt like a real game. And
the crowd, you know, you hear about the Arrowhead crowd
and they were super loud in the preseason game. So
that was one of my first I was probably my
first cool NFL stadium experience because I was able to

(13:37):
go against mahomes of the rookie go against Tyreek was
there Kelsey like, you know that team that was a
symbol that was winning all the Super Bowls. It was
cool to be able to go against them as a
rookie and really be able to test myself against that
competition early in my career.

Speaker 2 (13:51):
Yeah, I camp bond them right there. Hey, before I
let you go.

Speaker 3 (13:55):
Did you have time to think about in your bye week,
your next celebration at all on the field us?

Speaker 4 (14:00):
Of course, what we can't say, not even a hint,
not a hint. It's another yeah, nineties nineties type of thing,
So you guys don't know.

Speaker 5 (14:09):
An what it is when you see it. You guys
something nineties ninety TV show, Oh, nineties TV show.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
You're gonna do something like Saved by the Bill for
us out there? Awesome?

Speaker 7 (14:23):
I'm thinking a fresh print, fresh prints fresh Prince Air
were listening.

Speaker 3 (14:29):
I thought, I thought, maybe you're going to do the
electric slide or something like that out there with everybody,
get them a little line back action.

Speaker 5 (14:36):
It might have been done already. That's my thing.

Speaker 4 (14:38):
I can't do anything that anybody's done. Mine has to
be one hundred original NFL content.

Speaker 2 (14:46):
Is there doc Is there documentation about what's been done?

Speaker 3 (14:49):
Is there a history of celebrations that you have to
look at and go, well, hell, I can't do that.

Speaker 5 (14:53):
Now. You have to read the things people suggest.

Speaker 4 (14:57):
It's been done already, so you have to be That's
why I don't tell people, because somebody might steal it.

Speaker 5 (15:02):
Then I can't do it.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
I love it, that's all. So let me tell you this.

Speaker 3 (15:06):
We got to see this so big big playtime coming
up on Sunday, Okay, because that's week we got to
see that.

Speaker 2 (15:13):
Yeah, I thought, you know, i'd be I turned twenty
one in the nineties.

Speaker 3 (15:17):
I thought maybe you could do do something in me
stumbling out a bar or something like that, Like you
did a little little done several little jelly leg try
a walk out of a bar or something like that
right there. But Nah, that that's cool as hell. I
had no idea that you actually have. There's work behind
those celebrations that they.

Speaker 4 (15:38):
Get serious that helps us get more, more celebrations, more turnovers,
and more we think about it.

Speaker 3 (15:45):
Man, the thing you did was it week one? What's
the thing to do on your back? What was that
thing again where you're kind of bounced on your back?

Speaker 5 (15:53):
I don't know, I just I just thought it was funny.

Speaker 4 (15:54):
So it was just like it's like a breakdancing move
where you roll off your back and go sideways. It's
something one of those datas random, And that's why I
thought it was so funny.

Speaker 5 (16:03):
Nobody, nobody would expect that.

Speaker 3 (16:06):
Well, not only that, but like five percent of anybody
can do it.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
For one, exactly, I knew nobody else.

Speaker 5 (16:12):
Could do it in the league, so I'm like, all right,
at least i'll be unique.

Speaker 3 (16:17):
You're helming it up and got gear on and everything
like that. I can I can't imagine that. Hey, we're
really happy that you're here.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
For one.

Speaker 3 (16:24):
I mentioned this all the time. I have a great
deal of fun. And I don't know if you've become
a Pacer fan or not. I know they're going through
kind of a transitional stage right now with their team,
but I thought I feel about you the way I
felt with Obi Topping.

Speaker 2 (16:35):
I mean it was you.

Speaker 3 (16:36):
You're like an essential piece to what is a championship
level type of team. I mean I think that both
on and off the floor out of you, and you
have the op You show that all the time, and man,
that's really appreciated, I know by the fans around here,
both the work you do on the field and off
the field to embrace everybody.

Speaker 2 (16:55):
It's it's really cool, man.

Speaker 3 (16:56):
And not everybody does it, not everybody has the inclination
to do it, but you do it at a very
high level, and that's that's really cool when people love
it here.

Speaker 5 (17:05):
Yeah, that means a lot.

Speaker 4 (17:06):
That's a good I just want to be a light
wherever I am, so I appreciate you saying that. That
is one of my goals to you know, to impact
people around me and play at a high level. I
think all that comes from, you know, doing things right,
ray having joy in everything that I do.

Speaker 3 (17:21):
All Right, I'm gonna be looking for some kind of
Carlton dance or something like that, maybe on Sunday. I
don't know, something from the nineties, alight, I'm telling you
I'm there. Hey man, thanks for hopping on here. I
appreciate that more than you know, especially doing this live
after practice. Get back to doing what you're doing and
we'll check in sometime soon. Whenever you come on man
and just pop on, we'd love to have you sound good. Yeah,

(17:44):
I appreciate your time. Ken, Yeah, you got and go
get in this weekend. Jim buying them right there the colt.

Speaker 1 (17:49):
It's the best of the best from today's broadcast lineup. Instead,
replay continues in a moment on ninety three five and
one oh seven five the Fan. This is instant replay
today on Quarian Company.

Speaker 6 (18:13):
But from Lockdown Pacers, Tony East joining US now Tony.
Last night, I thought a game where Benedict Mathern continued
to show that, you know, he is obviously a special
player and a guy that has a unique ability to
score the basketball. I still wonder and maintain, is Benedict
Mathern a guy that is going to be that kind

(18:34):
of a player for the Pacers beyond this season?

Speaker 8 (18:38):
That's the question, And like they can't even answer it
right now, right because what they've needed him to be
right now is not that type of player. Like all
the questions we talked about when it comes to his
fit and how he'll be used for the Pacers next year,
you know, when they're presumably running and gunning again, they
can't answer. They can't. They haven't been able to play

(18:59):
that way. And they've needed Ben Matheren to just be
Ben Mathern. Go cook, Go be your defender, Go draw
falgo scurse some points. Honestly, and maybe this is just
matched by good shot making and like actually winning a game.
But last night felt more like a blend. Like it
didn't feel I didn't There was no stretch of the
game where Ben Matheren was just like in takeover mode
and had ten points and forty five seconds or something,

(19:20):
and he still finished with twenty four and had the
biggest defensive play of the game in a win. So that,
like last night's game, is the type of game I
think that both parties will hope to see more of
where he still leads the team in scoring and has
an excellent night, but also does a bunch of other
things the team is really proud of. Like after the game,
h at Carlisle obviously talked about the chase down stopped
or whatever it was. I don't know if he actually

(19:41):
blocked it, but also mentioned that during the game he
said to Matherin, hey, like, you're not defending well enough.
You could do this and that better, and he thought
he did.

Speaker 1 (19:48):
Right.

Speaker 8 (19:48):
That's that's the kind of stuff that will matter for
him beyond scoring twenty four points and will be valuable
to the Pacers next season when Haliburton is on the smiling,
glittening earring, Haliburton is back on the floor again.

Speaker 2 (20:01):
You know the.

Speaker 6 (20:03):
Tony watching that game last night, I think for the
first time really this year, they got out of Jay
Huff what they were hoping for. I mean, I think
that's you know, that's if you get that right, you're
you're more than thrilled because he's hitting threes. He he
at one point had I think two blocks that started
to transition. And it's been a while since well it's

(20:24):
it's not been since he's been here that we've seen
that level of play. Is that what they truly believe
he can be or was that the anomaly and even
above and beyond what they expected.

Speaker 8 (20:34):
I mean, that's probably above and beyond the expectation. Twenty
that was his career highst twenty two and he had
twenty like that was one of his best scoring games ever,
and like you were there, Jay Huff took heat check
threes right like how often is that going to happen?
And oh, by the way, Jay Huff took heat check
threes and I was like, yep, he should take some
heat check defeats right now. He was feeling it to

(20:56):
that extent. I think what they hope for more like
they thought there'd be more consistency with the shot, certainly,
and I I mean, maybe not as much anymore. The
season's been going for a month, but I still think
he's working into shape with how the Pacers playing, how
much a movement is required of him, which is atypical
for basically any system. If you're a big on the pacers,

(21:16):
not only are you moving defensively, but like on offens
or at the top of the key, you're getting the
ball side to side.

Speaker 2 (21:20):
Like you're involved a lot.

Speaker 8 (21:22):
Your mind is racing, your body's racing. It's tiring, it's exhausting.
And I we wrote about it before the season, like
that was a thing that they noted about him, was
conditioning was a thing that mattered in the negative way
for him early. And so I think he's getting that,
like more lyft in his legs. You saw it on
the dunk obviously what peak lyft jyhunk jay huff excuse

(21:42):
me could look like, and the threes were falling. But
the thing that I think that also got him closer
to the impact they maybe hoped was possible when they
traded a pick for him, was they stuck him in
around the basket more with that zone defense, and he
doesn't have to move around as much. Then his natural
gifts of being very tall and actually you know, having
a long wing span of block shots is more useful

(22:03):
when he's around the basket more often if he's moving,
if he's pulled away from the rim that's not as
valuable or something the Pacers can rely on. So I
think that shift was big for him strategically. We'll see
how much they can go to that. But they were
in zone a lot in Detroit too, and of course
it's going to help and make you look really good
when you make shots. But look, I mean, Isaiah Jackson
was pretty good against Golden State, they almost beat Minnesota,

(22:24):
and Tony Bradley's best game of the season, Jay Huff's
best game. They beat Charlotte, Like it's not it's not
a coincidence that the center position when those when they
get forty plus good minutes out of those guys, they
look good at un locks kin of the whole team.
So that was I think that the biggest noteworthy part
of what Jay Huff did.

Speaker 6 (22:39):
And by the way, there have been some transactions to
report involving the Pacers within the last hour or so. Correct, Tony, Yes.

Speaker 8 (22:49):
It's been the whole morning. See how fun. Yes, So,
Eric Neismith missed his third game since his injury last night,
which means now they're eligible for a hard again. So
that the plan right now is for them to sign
Garrison Matthews. He's a wing who's played for the Hawks,
most recently the Wizards and the Rockets. I think good shooter,

(23:12):
great shooter. He just gets him up. He takes a
lot of threes. His percentage for his career is like
thirty eight thirty nine ish. They need shot making badly.
We'll see how much he actually figures to play. But
any depth on the wing with the Fury out and
Smith out topping out among others, is valuable for this
team right now makes good sense there. And then before
that in the morning, we learned that, you know, they

(23:34):
have this hardship deal and that's what Jeremiah Robinson rle
has been on. But he can't sign another ten day.
You can only sign two ten days with a team
in a season. So if they wanted to keep him,
which they should have, right I mean, everybody who's watched
him understands exactly why the Pacers like him. He guards
a little bit, he's got size, he moves well, and
he's been awesome on the glass. Him and Bed Matheren
are their best two rebounding non centers. He's averaged over

(23:58):
six the game. He had fifteen in one game that it's.

Speaker 2 (24:00):
Been very valuable.

Speaker 6 (24:00):
I mean he's played well.

Speaker 8 (24:03):
Yeah, yeah, they keep He's playing sixteen to twenty minutes
every game right now, and like even if Nei Smith
comes back, you can foresee him being their tenth guy
and he's only twenty five. Like that, that's the kind
of age player that if they're any good, this year's
Pacers should win ees on right. And so because they
couldn't sign them to that hardship that they're presumably giving
to Garrison Matthews, they had to find another way to

(24:25):
keep him. So the player there is to Wave Monte Moris,
who they've had for two weeks. I'm over explaining all this,
but you know when they signed him, McConnell and Nemhard
were injured, they needed a point guard. He played fifteen
minutes his first game, twenty minutes a second game. Then
McConnell came back and his minutes have gone away that
he's only playing garbage time. Last night, the game you
were at for the first time, he didn't play at all.

(24:45):
So his role is way less needed than it was
when they signed him. Jeremia Robinsonerals needed way more than
when they additionally signed him, So that makes good this
all makes good sense for their current needs and injuries.
It's just crazy how many times they've had to make
get transaction with Instill the first month of their season,
given how hurt they've been. But this all makes good
sense to me. Their team is at least the team

(25:07):
they had a real rotation last night that like made
good sense forty eight minutes over.

Speaker 6 (25:11):
Explain is my middle name?

Speaker 5 (25:12):
You know that?

Speaker 8 (25:13):
Right? I never know what like what detailed people do want?
Do they just want hear the names they're signing? Do
they want the why what am I doing? But I
if you explain it, I think people East are like,
oh okay, They're not just trying to guess who's good
and who's not, like they actually there's always good reasons.

Speaker 6 (25:31):
Well, well, it's so funny, R. It's so funny, Tony, because
one thing that we'll never know in sport, You know,
there are guys that, like I look back to the
post brawl era or the transitioning from one coach to
the next era. You know that the the Pacers are
a unique franchise because they had this this level of

(25:53):
consistency in the Reggie Davis Brothers, Rick Smith's era, and
they pretty seamlessly transitioned that by mixing in young talent
with Al Harrington and Bender and then our test and
kind of shifting it with Reggie Miller being the transitional
piece right from one era of player into the next.

(26:17):
And so we were unaccustomed to with the exception of
the brawl years, ten day contracts and you know, exemption
rules and guys that you look at and you go, wow,
I really like this piece, and then you look back
later and you go, yeah. I mean he was only
there because they had to have a body on the roster.
So figuring out which the reason I think it's the

(26:37):
explanation is necessary is because at times you do wonder, Okay,
is this a guy they're signing because they believe in
what he can do and they're willing to kick the
tires on it. Or is this a guy they're signing
because they need a guy?

Speaker 5 (26:50):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 6 (26:50):
There is a difference, and we.

Speaker 8 (26:52):
See them specifically. Yes, they've been so hard this year
that it's like you have a polls, Great, you can
come to Dallas tonight. Great. That's a level of injury
that they've needed, a level of Avenger replacement. Excuse me
that they've needed to like field a team that makes sense.
And like the Minnesota game, they started two centers right, like,

(27:13):
and it was two centers who didn't start, Like the
game before Memphis, that guy got cut the next game,
like it's just been chasing a circle of who's heard
at this spot, who's heard at this spot, and all
this stuff, and you know, you gotta feel the team
that makes sense. They're doing their best because even if
it's not necessarily for like a try to win reason,
and they are trying to win, you still need players
playing in a role that makes sense to like look good.

(27:36):
If you're playing a wing at point guard or a
huge guy at the four. Sure, maybe it scraped you
by for five minutes successfully, but the rest of the
players around that guy look worse and they're making up
their mistakes or they just it doesn't you know, they
just that's why they're trying to make a team that
makes sense, even with their injuries, even if it's guys
that might be around beyond this season. So it's all

(27:57):
made good sense to me. Every time. It's just like
I mean, every time I touch my computer this month,
it's like, okay, right about an injury or a transaction
because of injury.

Speaker 2 (28:04):
But they have to do it.

Speaker 5 (28:05):
They just have to.

Speaker 6 (28:06):
Okay, lastly, Tony, I came back. Today's is today Thursday? Eddie, Yes,
Today's Thursday. So late on Tuesday night I come back.
I'm walking through the airport and I look around and
I'm like, oh, wait a minute. I figured it out,
and the Noblesville Boom is walking through the airport. Clearly
they had flown commercially back from I believe Iowa. Now

(28:30):
they're not exactly racking up wins, don't get me wrong. However,
they've got two guys on the roster to me that
are very intriguing, and one of them is R. J.
Felton and the other is Kyle Guy. And Kyle Guy
has played well for them. You and I talked about
this when I saw you at the Noblesville Boom game.
But I think he's maintained it to the point where
he's he's got a bounce about him. The former Laurence

(28:52):
Central and Virginia star, who of course played in the
NBA played for Sacramento notably in most is he somebody
that eventually could get opportunity with the Pacers?

Speaker 8 (29:04):
Man, I mean every year they've gone almost every year,
I guess, I think every season since this installment of
the two way contract, the Pacers have called up somebody.
I think I don't want to list every single one
year because that'd be a giant waste to everybody's time,
but they have either you know, provided that carrot or
used the G League as a legitimate resource for team building,

(29:25):
like every year, whether that is what you said, Like
last year was Julia Localfor got that ten day and
you know, right after the All Star break, like he
was playing good center minutes for them, And this kind
of season where things are really sideways, is a good
chance to look at someone who's in that situation, and
Kyle Guy has been I think their secondly, the scored
Jalen's loss and scoring like a billion points a game

(29:46):
right now the boom even though they can't win a game.
So yeah, certainly if he keeps playing well, I don't
think he's too a eligible, which hurts these pursuits of
you know, getting a guy a call up from through
the league to the NBA. But yeah, he's he's playing
really well, over twenty two points a game. And I
don't know if you saw this when you got back.
He got invited to the usa IS World Cup qualifying

(30:08):
roster for so they do like a different team every
month for like these sessions of when the qualifying games are.
So that's a huge loss for the Boom, right, they
can't win a game and they're one of their best
players has gone for now I think three games in
a week of practices and such. But he's playing that
well that you got that kind of opportunity, So yeah,
it certainly worth keeping an eye on then. Yeah, ur

(30:28):
J Felton, I don't. I don't think he's played yet.
I think he's injured so far like they've been, they
too have been fighting.

Speaker 6 (30:34):
Played in that game in their opener, their home opener
for certain, Yeah, I.

Speaker 8 (30:39):
Don't, I don't. I don't think he's played in every
game for them. They've been they've been like signing guys
so they can feel the roster level avert. So it's
been it's been a challenge for them, and they already
had to sign somebody because they were losing Kyle guy.
But you know, presumably he will be in the mix
for that could get a call up. Situation that the
facers always find themselves in and That's why watching the

(30:59):
Boom was on. You never know which one of these
guys one day is going to be what are those
pacers are helpful? They just had a I think they
I don't know if CBA is the right word, but
the G League Players Association finally agreed to like a
real term of you know, labor laws with the G League,
and so I think the minimum is forty five fifty thousand,
and if you're a two A guy, you're making like

(31:20):
five hundred something, and usually it's somewhere in between where
it's a little more than forty five. But you're also
getting like a bonus from your NBA team, and there's
travel for dms and all that kind of stuff. So yeah,
it's getting more and more every year.

Speaker 6 (31:32):
By the way, this weekend two opportunities to see the
Boom up at the Arena Innovation Mile. And the fun
thing about that is the Innovation Mile you get to
see all of it because it takes twenty five minutes
to drive that mile to get into the arena as Tony.

Speaker 8 (31:46):
Park at the hotels across the highway and walk and
you'll make it a little faster.

Speaker 6 (31:51):
Yeah, that's that's the only thing because the arena is awesome,
the seats, it's very affordable. It's a great chance to
come out and watch Saturday and Sunday. Sunday is a
three o'clock game Saturday night. Uh seven o'clock. The Boom
are in action at home. Tony, appreciate the time as always.

Speaker 2 (32:05):
You got it.

Speaker 8 (32:06):
Thanks for having me. Welcome back.

Speaker 6 (32:07):
Thank you, Tony East joining us on the program.

Speaker 1 (32:10):
It's the best of the best for today's broadcast lineup.
Instant Replay continues in a moment on ninety three five
and one oh seven five The Fan. This is instant
replay this morning.

Speaker 2 (32:29):
I'm a Fan morning show.

Speaker 10 (32:33):
There's our weekly chat with the head coach for Butler Basketball,
Dad Mana, joining us on the Payless Liquors Hotline right now.
We always like having him around and uh, coach, we
were just talking about, you know, binging TV or anything
like that. Do you have time to watch anything other
than film once the basketball season starts?

Speaker 9 (32:53):
You know what, It's funny, you guys said, I'm not
a TV guy, but now I'm into Westerns like old times.

Speaker 8 (33:01):
There's a station called Grit TV.

Speaker 9 (33:03):
Yeah, and at night I watch Westerns every night, like
into the early morning. It's just I don't know what
it is. I think when I was still kid, I used
to watch Me with my dad. I think it kind
of reminds me of that. And I mean some of
the greatest lines in movies are from like Westerns.

Speaker 11 (33:19):
I like that you're waking up at two am and
John Wayne staring back at you.

Speaker 8 (33:24):
Absolutely. Yeah, I mean it's it's the oddest thing.

Speaker 9 (33:28):
I've been doing it now for probably three months.

Speaker 2 (33:30):
I think I like it. That's good.

Speaker 10 (33:32):
Yeah, Coach Mada brought to us every week here by
Thompson Furniture and Mattress and Columbus and Business since the
year before Inklefield House opened in nineteen twenty seven. Lazy
Boy Indiana made Smith Brothers Furniture, Stearns and Foster temper
Pedic mattresses free delivery to the entire Indianapolis metro area,
worth to drive to Columbus Thompson Furniture dot Net. Coach,

(33:54):
you are, like I said, probably spend a lot of
time on film. Right now. I want to know what
you say you when you're watching Finley Bizjack, because he
is really starting to mature into a tough front line
player in not just the big East, but college basketball, No,
I think what.

Speaker 8 (34:10):
Fenn's playing at a very very high level.

Speaker 9 (34:12):
And I think one of the things you look at
great players, and great players always have energy, and and
Finley plays with an an ordinate amount of energy.

Speaker 8 (34:22):
He practices that way.

Speaker 9 (34:23):
He plays that way, and you know, he's a kid
that when when I say he's a gym rat, and
you know all that stuff that people say, I mean,
the kid lives in the gym every night. He's back
in hankle getting shots up. And I think the other
thing that's happened for Finley is he started to understand
the game, and he's thinking the game where he's slowing down,
he's reading situations better. And I'm just very very happy

(34:46):
with the way he's playing right now.

Speaker 11 (34:48):
Butler's at the Greenbrier.

Speaker 12 (34:49):
They've got a couple of big ones here for that
resume coming up tomorrow afternoon with South Carolina and then
again on Sunday. Here, coach, let's go back to the
SMU game, and it seemed like, you know, obviously offensively,
you guys put up a big time number and made
quite the rally there late in that game and had
an opportunity to even steal that one on the road.

(35:10):
What did you like what did you not like about
your performance against SMU Well, I think this.

Speaker 9 (35:15):
I thought we did a great job of competing and
and you know, not faulting that we didn't play hard.
What got in that game was the turnovers offensively that
led to easy baskets for them. And you know, our
transition defense a couple of times was not as sharp,
but it's it's hard to have a good transition defense

(35:37):
when they're on a breakout, and I thought that was something.
You know, rebounding down the stretch was was not as good.
I mean, I think we're a really good rebounding team,
but we gave him a couple of easy ones off
of the rebounds, and and uh uh but there was
there were some some good positives, but uh just you know,
it's one that I'd like to have that game back

(35:58):
if I could. But uh, you know, and as I
told the guys after the game, if we don't learn
from this, there will be a travesty. And we've had
a good week of practice leading into tomorrow's game, so
so hopefully we'll be uh, we'll be a better basketball team.

Speaker 13 (36:11):
Coach, You've been doing this a long time. And you
talk about, you know, not having losses linger or certain outcomes.
How do you know or do you just have to
wait until the next game to truly understand your team's
mental makeup? I get it still pretty early in the year.

Speaker 9 (36:25):
Well you do. And you know, especially nowadays with how
many new players you have every year and that sort
of thing. And I've told you guys, I'm going to
learn a lot about you here when when.

Speaker 14 (36:37):
We take the floor on Friday, because we got knocked
down and do we remond and they were playing a really,
really good South Carolina team, so we got to hit
ourselves ready to go.

Speaker 13 (36:49):
And then to follow up to that on a different
I guess a little more positive note, Philly Bizack got
a little homecoming of sorts going down to the SMU campus.
Grew up in Trophy Club, Texas, which I think is
like something out of like a Friday Night Lights movie
or something like that, Trophy Club Texas, and it's in
real place. But how did he enjoy that environment? And
just soak that up because you know, this kid puts
a lot into basketball and doesn't always get a chance

(37:11):
to see you know, the hometown roots and things like that.

Speaker 9 (37:14):
Yeah, you know, I think it was. It was a
great experience. One funny thing is his brother had a
football game, played college football as a quarterback, and his
mom going to make it to the game. But I
think he still had like thirty family and friends there.
And but I think you know, he was as he
told me I today, he's still good to be home.
He says, ghost's his business trip. I'll come back this
summer and do all that stuff. So Kin Koch where

(37:36):
his mind.

Speaker 2 (37:36):
Was, got to love that.

Speaker 10 (37:37):
I'm just curious now that there were a couple of
weeks in, is this team starting to get its identity?

Speaker 2 (37:42):
Is it starting to.

Speaker 10 (37:43):
Kind of feel like, you know who this team is
and what they do?

Speaker 5 (37:45):
Yet?

Speaker 9 (37:48):
Boy, I think so, But I but I don't know.
You know, there's just there's so many things that have
to continue to develop. And you know, we've got to
continue to play games and and and and see how
we grow. And you know, we got to get guys
more consistent. Uh, you got to get them. You know,
we know exactly what we're gonna get every time we

(38:09):
take the floor.

Speaker 12 (38:11):
Okay, coming up at South Carolina tomorrow afternoon at the Greenbrier,
then Virginia on Sunday for Thad Modas bunch. They try
to build this non conference resume coach.

Speaker 11 (38:20):
I'm not gonna lie. I have not really had the West.

Speaker 12 (38:24):
Virginia Greenbyer Resort on the bucket list, but I've always
been intrigued of, like, wow, NFL teams have gone here
for training camps, the PGA Tours had events here, and
now we get, you know, one of these non conference tournaments.
What is the resort like the green Byer like this
time of year?

Speaker 9 (38:42):
You know what? Nice old But you guys ever seen
the movie as.

Speaker 11 (38:48):
Shinyyeaure Oh boy?

Speaker 9 (38:50):
Now you mean I think it may have been I
think it may have been filmed here. Uh, you know,
it's kind of I think it was in Oregon, but
it's kind of got that feel to it, but in beautiful,
beautiful resort. And I haven't seen a whole lot of
it yet. We had in yesterday afternoon and we actually
met at the staff for a few hours and had
filmed last night with the team. So maybe maybe if

(39:11):
I find some time, I'll get out and get around.
But it's the wallpaper here is very very unique. If
you guys are into that sort of stuff.

Speaker 11 (39:18):
Interesting inflick some shining on your opponents here coming up.

Speaker 9 (39:24):
All right, exactly exactly.

Speaker 10 (39:28):
I like that, coach. Always good to talk to you.
We'll probably take a week off for Thanksgiving next week,
but we'll be watching with great curiosity and hope as
you play these two teams this weekend.

Speaker 11 (39:38):
So good luck with that, all right.

Speaker 9 (39:40):
I appreciate you guys.

Speaker 8 (39:41):
Thank you.

Speaker 10 (39:42):
Before I let you go, though, all time favorite Western
star is Crazy Sway.
