Speaker 1 (00:01):
We know you're busy, bills to pay, mouths to feed,
and the man needs another favor.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
So, just in case you missed what happened, I'm a
fan today, we got your back, and even if you
did hear it live, you probably need to hear it again.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Here you go, all in one place and in just
one hour, the best of the best from today on
ninety three to five and one oh seven five the Fan.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
This is instant replay this morning I'm a Fan Morning Show.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Tanner Bordolini, the offensive lineman for the Indianapolis Colts, on
the Payless Liquers Hotline, Good morning on another victory Monday
for the Indianapolis Colts. I would have guessed that you're
okay with this getting old, this this victory Monday thing
right now.

Speaker 4 (00:41):
It has been a lot of fun to be a
part of. But I anys keep them rolling.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Yeah, absolutely, Tanner.

Speaker 5 (00:46):
When you look at what this team is able to
be able to do offensively, how impressive is it or
how much fun is it? Rather to be a fan
every now and then, like, for example, when you're blocking
for a play, I don't know how often you get
chans to just sit there and watch the rest of it.
But when JT goes for eighty yards, what's your reaction
to what you're seeing on a regular basis.

Speaker 6 (01:09):
I mean it's pretty awesome.

Speaker 7 (01:10):
I think you see some of the players, our guys
make a weekend week out, it's always extremely impressive. You know,
watching JT break that ADR touchdown something that I don't
think ever gets old. You know, they think the k
inside he lives a little bit watching and make plays.

Speaker 4 (01:25):
Like that, and it's, uh, you know, you get the.

Speaker 6 (01:27):
Chance to be a fan again.

Speaker 7 (01:28):
You see Pitt make it grab like that in the
end zone yesterday, It's like, oh my, did you see that?

Speaker 6 (01:32):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (01:33):
I think we're just as excited as the fans are.
And it's been really a lot of fun to be
a part of. And uh, I know, I think me
I can speak for everyone on the offense when I
said we're having a blast out there.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Tanner, Mike, did you see that moment? Was when you
out jumped Shane Steichen on the sidelines. There you got
Shane's got to get his vertical up.

Speaker 7 (01:51):
Oh so Shane tried to get me out on last
week and I missed him. I misread the situation.

Speaker 4 (01:56):
So I gotta get him back this week, so I
made sure to get up there.

Speaker 6 (01:59):
I'm pretty sure this next game.

Speaker 7 (02:00):
Will be dialed on it. He'll be ready to roll,
He'll get some height on that jump.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
But I think we both get a little pretty fired
up when when our offense is rolling like that.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
It's a starting center for the cold Tanner BORDERLINI with
us here on the Payosslockers hotline seven am on a Monday.
What is your Monday routine?

Speaker 6 (02:17):
I had it in Now I'm about to get some treatment.

Speaker 7 (02:19):
You know, he'll up whatever. You know, not feeling great,
but I think everything always feels a little better after
a win. But I'll get healed up, get a lift in,
hit some meetings, watching it, watch the film, break it down,
see what I can improve on, just personally going through
the next week, because I think you know, it's.

Speaker 6 (02:35):
About getting better week to week.

Speaker 7 (02:37):
See when we get improved upon every every game winner,
lose on and then just enjoy the rest of the day.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
Tenner, why do you think this offense is performing and
executing at such a high level right now?

Speaker 2 (02:47):
What's been the key?

Speaker 4 (02:49):
I think it's just everyone doing their job right now.

Speaker 6 (02:52):
We have eleven guys that know if I can do
my job.

Speaker 7 (02:55):
We have tremendous talent at all those other positions where
those ten other guys are going to do some great
things if I give him the opportunity to and everyone
buying in every week, every game plan. I don't think
there's a single leak where guys are preparing different. You know,
there's keen consistencies than have a premium, and I think
guys just really being focused and wanting our offense to

(03:16):
keep excelling the way.

Speaker 5 (03:17):
It is so Tanner Obviously as a center, you touched
the ball more than anybody else. How much more comfortable
do you feel this year being a full time starter
versus last year as a rookie just trying to make
sure that you, I don't know, don't mess up at
the NFL level.

Speaker 7 (03:33):
I think, you know, you just kind of embrace that
this is like my position, my spot now.

Speaker 6 (03:38):
And I think you just do.

Speaker 7 (03:40):
You do feel a little more comfortable, just you know,
you're you're playing with those guys in practice every day,
You're getting all the reps with them, You're you're going
to be the guy at that spot.

Speaker 6 (03:48):
So I think that confidence is there. It's just it's
you're just more comfortable.

Speaker 7 (03:52):
Just having stacked and had all those reps of those
guys that are around you.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
At number sixty for the Colts Channel, BORDERLINI with us
here on the pay Less Slickers hot line seven to one.
Start here in this twenty twenty five season, Tanner you
shared with us. I think it was on Zoom last
week about kind of what you witness and the Daniel
Jones Shane Stiken relationship on a weekly basis. For our audience,
it maybe didn't hear that. What do you see from
those two Monday through Saturday? And I guess I point

(04:19):
out Saturday because I believe you do sit behind those
two on road trips as well.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
You know, just getting to see the way they talk
to each other, you.

Speaker 7 (04:27):
Know, how invested they both aren't winning, how on the
same page about the game plan they are, Like on
the plane.

Speaker 4 (04:33):
I'll beat behind those two in the whole flight. You know,
we're in a four hour flight to LA.

Speaker 6 (04:37):
They're both throwing through stuff.

Speaker 7 (04:38):
Talking about, Hey, here's what I think we can get
on this situation, this play, if we get discoveraged. You know,
here's what I think would be a good call, you know,
and I think it really shows once we get the
game time that they both know when this play comes in,
here's what we're thinking, Here's what we want to do,
Here's what we want to achieve. And I think that's
a really important part of why this offense has been
the way it has.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
Who can eat the most in the offensive line room?

Speaker 7 (05:02):
Man, we got a lot of guys that are up there.

Speaker 4 (05:05):
I would say Braiden.

Speaker 6 (05:06):
If you get Braiden on the right day, he can he.

Speaker 7 (05:08):
Can demolished some food. He has probably had the biggest
breakfast I've ever seen in my life.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
What is that?

Speaker 8 (05:15):
What is it?

Speaker 2 (05:17):
I assume it's plates plurally, but what does that look like?

Speaker 7 (05:21):
So he he'll have seven over easy eggs, seven pancakes,
and then uh, he like the biggest bowl of fruit
you've ever seen. I'm talking like it'd be like another plate,
you know, piled highway fruit. I mean, it's unreal how
much he can put down.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
Is that daily game day?

Speaker 7 (05:43):
I mean, honestly, it's daily for breakfast. That's what he
knocks out. He said he's a seven over easy egg guy,
which I think is an insane amount of over easy eggs.

Speaker 4 (05:51):
But I love Braiden, but he could put that down
like no.

Speaker 5 (05:54):
Other tenor aside from the dieting, I think the seven pancakes.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
Yeah, but damn, I'm just like, how are we the
same species?

Speaker 6 (06:04):
Right? You know?

Speaker 5 (06:06):
Two eggs over Heason? Probably as much as I got,
you know for my uh you know, Buck fifty frame.

Speaker 6 (06:12):
I'm with you on that.

Speaker 4 (06:13):
Two or three maybe seven's that's a man's.

Speaker 9 (06:15):
I guess Tanner, Uh speaking of beyond just I guess
the diety expertise of your teammate, Uh, Tony Fronto Jr.

Speaker 5 (06:26):
Your offensive line coach. How much is he meant to
you and that room? Because from the sounds of it
talking to you and others, he'll love you up. But
he also won't sugarcoat anything.

Speaker 7 (06:38):
No, he's been huge, and I think that's a great
way to do it. I feel like you always know
what he's telling you is true and it's what he
actually means. And I think it's a great thing for
a coach to have. And again, as a player, you
want you it's not always going.

Speaker 6 (06:51):
To be perfect.

Speaker 7 (06:52):
You understand that, but if you take the coaching for
what it is, I think you can grow a lot
from it as a player and make sure the group
a lot better because that's think we all see that
the same way.

Speaker 4 (07:01):
Where look, we know we're not gonna be perfect.

Speaker 7 (07:04):
It might not always be what you want to hear,
but sometimes it's what you need to hear. And he
does a really great job but you know, telling you
what you need to do better, but loving you up
on the things you do well and then just having
us ready for games. He does a phenomenal job.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
Does he have an inside voice.

Speaker 4 (07:21):
Sometimes he also has an outside you know, he's got a.

Speaker 6 (07:23):
Little bit of both, but he finds.

Speaker 7 (07:26):
That happy medium of you know, don't how to coach
each guy.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
Taylor, last one for me, We really appreciate your time
here on this Monday morning. Do you have a favorite
Jonathan Taylor run from this season?

Speaker 6 (07:38):
I mean that eighty.

Speaker 7 (07:39):
Yard one was just pretty electric. There there are so
many great ones though that, Like, I mean, this is
a really good problem to have. Uh, you know, I
really can't choose one. I feel like every week there's
one where I'm like, that was unbelievable.

Speaker 4 (07:52):
But that's just the kind of runner he is. He
gives you something like that weekend week out.

Speaker 3 (07:56):
It's great to have you on this morning. You're welcome anytime. Uh,
try to keep up with the pancakes and eggs though,
I mean, you gotta gotta stay big and stay strong, right,
Let's go, all right, buddy, Thank you appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
It's the best of the best from today's broadcast lineup.
Instant replay continues in a moment on ninety three five
and one oh seven five the Fan. This is instant
replay today on Quarian Company.

Speaker 10 (08:32):
Don Fisher is in fact on the Java House Peel
and port guest line Java house dot com. By the way,
search for my name on there. You can see the
Quarry Bundle. Use Jake twenty five get twenty five percent off.
Don Fisher joining us now and listen a busy weekend.

Speaker 6 (08:50):
Don.

Speaker 10 (08:50):
I'm gonna give you the choice because we had the
introduction to seeing the basketball team against Baylor yesterday and
then obviously Indiana's uh just canntinued impressive play on the
football field on Saturday against the UCLA. So I will
give you the choice basketball football which.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
One we want to lead with here?

Speaker 8 (09:08):
Well, because I better get football out of the way first,
since it was two days ago and I could forget
a lot of things. But all that said, the football
team was really impressive on Saturday, taking not a team
that had gotten new coaching staff, a new player, not
new players, but new systems and new formations and all

(09:29):
those kinds of things. And a lot of folks thought
that Indiana was going to have some problems with UCLA.
It didn't go out and come out that way simply
because it started out with two plays in an interception
by Aidan Fisher running in for a touchdown of twenty
five yards. And I'm telling you, you could just almost
feel the air come out of the balloon for UCLA

(09:52):
after that play. And I'm not saying that they didn't
play hard the rest of the first half or whatever,
but the game got out of hand fairly quickly. Indiana
just dominated the Bruins in that contest. And it wasn't
even Indiana's best performance of the year. It was really
just kind of a what you would call an average
effort on the Indiana part. And I say that because

(10:14):
Indiana just had controlled the game the entire time and
you never felt like there was going to be a problem.

Speaker 10 (10:19):
Yeah, it's interesting, don because and whoever would have guessed
this was going to be the case, in the fact
that the Colts are almost like India, it's like Sunday,
we're seeing almost what you saw on Saturday. And the
fact that when you have a team you're like, yeah, okay,
they are playing at such a high level that even
like a lethargic's the wrong word, but yes, I mean

(10:43):
a game where maybe you aren't even clicking on all
cylinders and you're that much more superior than the opponent.
And Indiana, I thought we saw that on Saturday. I'll
be honest. I was thinking about this today on my
way in and I thought, if I was going to
ask Don Fisher a question of concern about Indiana football,
I don't know where it would be.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
I just don't.

Speaker 10 (11:00):
I mean, maybe at times kind of going through the motions,
but don it just seems like a football team that
doesn't really have a weakness that you are hoping the
other team exposes.

Speaker 6 (11:13):
Is that fair?

Speaker 8 (11:15):
Well, it is at this point, Jake, because if we
know injuries can take their toll, and we never know
how that's going to play out. And Aiden Fisher got
hurt in that ballgame in the first half. He did
not play the rest of the ballgame. And I think
he is one of the really key pieces of personnel
on this roster that they can't afford to lose simply

(11:38):
because he is the leader of the defense and he's
a good portion of the leader for the entire ball club.
He has got all that experience under Chrit Signetti. He
has been one of the more vocal guys in regard
to how he goes about his business, communication on the field,
communication with his teammates. And again, the linebacking corp is

(12:00):
thinner core anyway. They've got three really good linebackers in
this ball club, Isaiah Jones being the third, along with
Elijah Hardy. But when you look at Indiana, if they
have a weakness, it would be at certain spots depth wise,
but other than that, you don't see anything, and you
certainly don't see it in the way they go about

(12:20):
their business on the field. They are methodical in the
sense of being ready to play, being focused, how to
play hard, physical, relentless, fast, efficient, just about every term
you could use from an adjective standpoint. This team is
just excellent at all of it. And Buck Snore has

(12:42):
constantly said here in the last couple of weeks he
thinks that Indiana is the best team in the country,
and he includes Ohio State in that mix. Now that's
saying something because the Buckeyes are really good and they
have been for a long time. In their defense, this
year is spectacular. But I think Buckley believes that, and
I think Indiana fans ought to believe it too, because

(13:03):
they have basically shown that in every game they played
that this team is for real.

Speaker 10 (13:08):
Don It's so interesting to me, by the way, Kurtz
Signetti says, Aidan Fisher is quote probable for Indiana's game
coming up Saturday, at least as of right now at Maryland.
It's interesting when you know, I look and I look
each Sunday evening and I read there's a national you know,
a group of panelists on ESPN that ranks where they

(13:30):
believe the college football playoff rankings would be if it
were death start right now, which is ludicrous because it
doesn't start right now right There's a lot of football
to be played, but it does give barometer as to
the perception of teams and what people think the respect level.
I thought it was interesting this week twelve panelists, seven
have Ohio State number one, five have Indiana number one,

(13:51):
so the difference is not near as far the gap
is not as far as I think a lot of
people would believe, because Indiana has the best win on
the season, you know, winning at Oregon, and they just
don't have a lot of weakness. Now, I wanted to
ask you about this. You know, Mendoza has been so good.
I think he's right now the best quarterback in the
country and maybe a Heisman front runner at that point.

(14:13):
Don in your opinion, when you look at the precision
in which he is able to deliver the football in
Indiana's passing game, is able to click. Is it quarterback
that can see and put the ball exactly where it
needs to be for his receivers, or is it receivers
in notably Cooper and sarat who have been outstanding, that
are able to have the right route run to get

(14:36):
themselves right where they need to be. Or is it
the perfect marriage of both.

Speaker 8 (14:41):
It's literally the perfect marriage of both. Because Fernando just
had an okay game on Curtay. He wasn't spectacular. I
mean he was when he threw those three touchdown passes,
but he had a fifteen to twenty two completion percentage
in that ball game, which is you know, and his
part so or at least in the Parliace and what
people think about Fernando if he has missed more than

(15:05):
three or four passes in the ball game, everybody seems
to say, well, that was just not all that great
performance today. And yet he was fifteen for twenty two
one hundred and sixty eight yards three touchdowns. He also
had five rushes in that ballgame for forty five yards
of a touchdown. And then his brother came in. His
brother came in in the fourth quarter and did essentially

(15:26):
the same kind of things that he was doing. So
all I can tell you at this point is, and
here's the one thing you've got to know, this receiving
corps is really special.

Speaker 6 (15:35):
And E. J.

Speaker 8 (15:36):
Williams had a great game on Saturday. Elijah Surat and
Omar Cooper were just very average in regard to how
many passes they caught and what was accomplished with those passes.
But it just tells you how complete this football team
is right now in the sense of what they've got
on the field. Not necessarily depth wise at certain positions,

(15:59):
but this is just a very complete football team and
you see it on both the offensive side and the
defensive side.

Speaker 11 (16:07):
Don to kind of put a bow on football. Two
questions here, Number one, how many times did you practice
saying Nico's last name leading up to Saturday's game? And
then number two, I believe last week on the show,
Jake asked you about Fernando Mendoza and you said you
hadn't interviewed him yet, and you got to do that
on Saturday. Is there anything that we need to ask
you to speak into existence that you need for good fortune?

Speaker 8 (16:29):
Well, the first thing you need to know is I
did practice Nico's last name about a million times and
still got it wrong a couple of times on Saturday.
So that wasn't a perfect performance by any stretching imagination.
Iamali Ava's how you say it, But I screwed that
up two or three times. And my co host on

(16:52):
the show, as far as the pregame, half time a
post game, John Harry, he got it wrong every time
he said it, So I know it wasn't It wasn't easy.
But that being said, and will be your second question, I'm.

Speaker 11 (17:04):
Sorry I said that. Last week on the show. You
said something about not having the chance to interview for
Nanda Mendozi and you got to write that ship on Saturday.
Is there anything else you need us to ask you
to put in a good fortune?

Speaker 8 (17:17):
Well, anything you say is probably going to work out
to my benefit just at this point in time, because
nothing seems to be going wrong for Indiana right now.

Speaker 10 (17:26):
Don Can you just simply mention that you'd like to
see the Pacers get healthy and then that way, boom,
We're we're back to square one here in a week,
because I mean, you.

Speaker 8 (17:34):
Know, hey, well, I can tell you this what the
Pacers did to that opening game of the season to
get to double overtime and missing basically about four different
players and then them aar gets hurt on top of that.
I'll tell you what, Rick Carlile is one of the
best coaches in the NBA, off not the best coach

(17:55):
in the NBA with what he's been able to accomplish
with this Pacer organization. He's always been a great coach.
Everybody knew that obviously. I had an NBA championship in Dallas,
but that was close to getting another one last year.
It probably should have happened. If if the Star Guard.

Speaker 10 (18:14):
Doesn't get if Halliburton doesn't get hurt out how events
they win that game. I just you know, okay, speaking
of basketball by the way and great coaches, you know,
we don't know whether Indiana has one now. And I
agree on Rick Carlisle, by the way and Darren Devrees.
But what I like is this, And I wanted you
to be able to elaborate because Indiana wins an exhibition

(18:35):
game over Baylor at Gambridge field House. But I like
the fact that Indiana I know nothing of their roster,
and I think a lot of people don't. I mean,
I know Lamar Wilkerson is a guy that's a volume scorer,
and I know that you know, Tucker to Breeze is
a guy that can shoot and can score probably in
waves as well. But it seemed to me like at
the very least, Indiana took care of the basketball and

(18:58):
it's going to be relentless defensively. What other observations jumped
out to.

Speaker 8 (19:03):
You, Well, the thing that does jump out of me
is how resilient they are getting down. I think I
told you this before that I went to Puerto Rico
with them this summer. I didn't broadcast any games. I
was just there to build relationships with the coaching staff
and with the players, just getting to know these guys,
because everybody was brand new, including the staff with their

(19:25):
in the resons, the new head coach. But what I
saw down there was exactly what I saw in the
game on Sunday yesterday. They fight their butts off on defense.
They are really good defensively in that sense, and they
bought into defensive play. I think this team is talented.
I don't know how talented, because they're going to come

(19:47):
up against teams in the ten and as the season
goes along, they're going to have much more talent than
they do. But I just don't think they're going to
ever beaten by anybody. I could be wrong about that
way way away from the season still a week over
a week and the real tests won't start for a while.
But the key with this basketball team number one, they

(20:09):
are really well coached. Darren de Breeze. Every place he's
bet he's been successful. I love his demeanor on the sidelines,
how he deals with players coming in and out of
ball games. He's got discipline. They are tough. They are
mentally tough, and they've proven that in three of the
games that I've seen now I've seen him play four times.

(20:29):
I saw him play Puerto Rico, which they abolished. Then
they played to the same Serbian team twice, won both
of those ball games, and now they've beat a Baylor team.
It's really a pretty good basketball team, at least personnel wise,
and everybody's finding themselves because both of these rosters yesterday
were brand new to their respective coaches. They were all

(20:50):
brand new guys. So in that sense, all I can
tell you at this point is I love what I
see in this basketball team. I love how hard they play,
and I think is going to fall in love with
them because they are fighters. They will battle you right
to the end, and they've proven that in three ball
games now, and.

Speaker 10 (21:07):
I get the feeling that again it's very early, but
you know, I go back to and my brain works
weird sometimes in terms of being able to recall something
way too long ago. But if you look at that
group that Mike Davis had that went to the Final
four with Kyle Hornsby and Dane Fife and Tom Coverdale
and Jared Odle, you always had a couple of guys
on the floor that could almost contagiously start hitting threes

(21:29):
in waves, right, And I think Indiana is going to
be a volume three point shooting team, and there are
going to be games where that's going to be massive
for them, and then there are other games where sometimes
it just doesn't fall and that becomes contagious as well.
That to me is going to be interesting because I
do think they have some guys that can shoot the basketball,
and I think he's going to give them the green
light to do that. But we shall see a lot
of basketball between you know now in the end of

(21:52):
the year Alabama A and M. Is when the Hoosiers
get things started. That is going to be a week
from Wednesday. Football at Maryland coming up on Saturdays. Well,
Don Fisher will be the voice for all of it.
Don appreciate the time as always.

Speaker 8 (22:06):
All right, thanks for having me, Jake, I appreciate.

Speaker 2 (22:09):
Don Fisher joining us.

Speaker 1 (22:10):
The best of the best from today's broadcast lineup. Instead,
replay continues in a moment on ninety three five and
one oh seven five the Fan. This is instant replay
earlier this afternoon on the ride with JMV.

Speaker 12 (22:33):
In need of all the personnel help they can get
right now. While on the road, the Pacers zero to
three losers last night in Minneapolis.

Speaker 2 (22:43):
One fourteen, one ten was the Final.

Speaker 12 (22:45):
They lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves and from the Pacer
television and radio networks respectively. Here, the former NBA guard
Eddie Gill joins us. Now, good afternoon, Eddie. How are
you good?

Speaker 8 (22:55):
Asking them guys, I'm good.

Speaker 12 (22:56):
How about so, man, I'm thinking maybe I could get
a They are with this agreep right now, what do
you think?

Speaker 13 (23:03):
I mean, that's a marginal stretch, But I mean there's
spots open right now.

Speaker 12 (23:11):
I just I think I've seen it all. I don't
know if I've seen it all. And I say, I'm
explaining about the Colts and you know, making sure you
start seven to one. I mean, this is it right here.
You're going forward, living the moment because you're not promised
a damn thing next year. And that's exactly how I

(23:31):
feel so far with the Pacers, considering just the elite
level of accomplishment we witnessed a year ago.

Speaker 13 (23:39):
I mean, listen, there's story after story that illustrates just
what you're referring to. I mean, the championship windows and
competitive windows even for that matter, they open and close rapidly,
certainly championship opportunities. So I mean the miracle ride and
opportunity that the Facings were all last season was tremendous
and so on and so forth. But you know, anything anytime,

(24:03):
it can be taken away from you, especially when you're
talking about the health of the team and certainly your
your key players.

Speaker 12 (24:10):
Can I tell you too what I still and and
I thought Quinn said this the right way last night
on the television broadcast, not so much in the same words,
but these guys still go out there and play their
ass off and that's exactly what is expected. And they
are still doing that even through all of this. And

(24:33):
you know see Hawkins playing point you got guy. I
mean there was a backcourd once upon a time. I
saw over the weekend with Taylor Peter and ray J.
Dennis And it is amazing what Rick, Carlisle and Staph
are having to cobble together right now. But what does
remain the same is the level of compete. They still
have that because that's what they're about.

Speaker 13 (24:55):
Yeah, I mean, that's a large part of the heroic
plays are what they were last season, and they did
had and had to have a number of them to
get to where they were. But the main say was
the ferocity and tenacity that they played with on each
and every every night they stepped out there, and that's what's.

Speaker 8 (25:09):
Going to give you a chance to win.

Speaker 13 (25:11):
Even last night, that's what gave them a chance to
win against that team and their building at their home opener.
So I don't think that's going anywhere anytime soon right now.
You just work with what you have, try to put
them in the in the best positions to win and
just to maximize, you know, what you have available.

Speaker 12 (25:29):
To you in uniform of those that remain healthy right now.
Which is a stretch is there is there a best
lineup that you have seen so far? We'll play off
of that with a little bit more at least individual
position by position in a second, But is there a
the best lineup they have right now? Considered the number
of injuries that Rick Carlisle's dealing with presently.

Speaker 13 (25:49):
I don't know that we've seen enough in terms of
that identify a best. But to that to that end,
you know, Rick Carlisle is doing a lot of experimenting
right now and just trying to find some sort of
continuity for this team right now, because well, seemingly each
night out someone else goes down and you had to
pivot again once you've already created some other adjustment that

(26:12):
you had to make for from the previous game. So
I don't know that we've identified a quote unquote best
right now. But last night I was really happy with
the way. You know, guys like ray J Dennis, I
thought he was really good in certain moments. I thought
Tony Bradley was really good in certain moments, and so I'm.

Speaker 8 (26:31):
Sure they'll take something from that.

Speaker 13 (26:32):
You reference Pascal Siakam, he's doing a little bit of everything.
I'm not in love with the fact of how hard
he's got to work for everything right now to get
everything done. But man, he's a warrior, so he's going
to go out there and do it and not going
to make any excuses about it.

Speaker 8 (26:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 12 (26:46):
The other thing that's unrecognizable to me, at least with
this group is just the high, high level of isolation
ball that we see, and that just it is so
weird to watch the ball stop and stick. But with
this group the way that it is right now, you
really have no choice.

Speaker 13 (27:03):
Well, especially if you look at Game one against the Thunder,
you know, Benic mather and and Pascal Siakam, we're playing
a little bit of you know, your turn, my turn basketball.
And that's not at all what we've grown accustomed to
see this this team do. And some of it's by necessity,
and some of it also is by default. I don't
know if they're necessarily trying to do that. It's just that,

(27:26):
you know, you have these different lineups out there, and
when all those fails, you're like, hey, we can give
it to our best players, and hey, I hope those
guys go make a play for us versus the ball movement,
which has proved to be so effective.

Speaker 12 (27:37):
Did Tony Bradley make any strides as trying to determine
who should, at least for the moment, consistently, you know,
hold down the big man position on this team. Did
we see any strides made in Minneapolis last night?

Speaker 13 (27:51):
I thought he was great in the fourth quarter. I
thought he had moments even last season during that run
where you know, not things that jump off the page
to you, but things that impact winning. He was definitely
a factor there. He's not going to wow you with athleticism.
He's not going to shoot the three ball, but he's
going to set every screen right. He's going to be
right in the right position offensively, He's going to be
an appropriate uh position. Defensively, he's going to rebound the basketball.

(28:15):
He's going to do all those small things again that
impact winning, and it just so happens last last night
he was also putting the ball in the basket, so
that that, you know, even brought more awareness and eyes to.

Speaker 8 (28:27):
What he's capable of doing.

Speaker 13 (28:29):
I think, you know, just about watching him since he's
been here, I think.

Speaker 8 (28:32):
Uh Ratalao to Lily trust.

Speaker 13 (28:34):
Him, and and and all those things I just highlighted,
So I wouldn't be shocked if he if he just
earned earned himself more opportunity come Wednesday night.

Speaker 12 (28:43):
Man, there is a lot of stress and we didn't
really go too far in depth. You did bring it
up regarding Pascal Siakam, who has played well and doing
a little bit of everything and doing a little bit
of everything all the time, and you certainly don't want
it to go down this way at the early stages
of the season with him.

Speaker 13 (29:02):
Yeah, exactly, So I would suspect those of the conversations
being had internally is you know, the amount of the
load that he has. But that's part of the responsibility,
as you know, the best player on the team, the
leader team he's won a championship, he's been an All Star. Uh,
you know, so he's going to assume that role just
by nature. You know, it may become a situation again,

(29:25):
you know, hopefully some of these guys get back and
you know, maybe they do something with acquisitions.

Speaker 8 (29:28):
Who knows.

Speaker 13 (29:29):
I'm speculating to some degree, but as it pertains to
him specifically, they they they may start having some internal conversations.

Speaker 8 (29:35):
About, hey, do we put so much on his plate?

Speaker 13 (29:40):
Uh and potentially risk you know whatever possibly happening him
down the road or early on in this season here.

Speaker 8 (29:46):
You know, you do you.

Speaker 13 (29:48):
Try to skim skim it back. A little bit will
be recorded, you know, for for for later opportunities.

Speaker 2 (29:56):
Now I'm not recording. Your call is no longer being recorded.

Speaker 8 (30:00):
I think that's for me. I'm not sure what's going on,
but I just I just a.

Speaker 12 (30:03):
New message for me.

Speaker 2 (30:07):
I'm right here for it if you need it.

Speaker 12 (30:09):
I I would expect, regarding an NBA hardship rule with
personnel that the the Pacers are probably approaching that particular
point right now, aren't they as far as personnel availability
is concerned. Because I don't I don't know if I've
ever seen anything like this.

Speaker 13 (30:29):
Yeah, I don't know the specific rules, but man, they
got to be getting close to it if they're not
there already. I don't know the specifics as a change.

Speaker 8 (30:38):
Of that rule, but man, it's literally on a nightly
basis at this point. And that's not even.

Speaker 13 (30:44):
Taking in to the account of guys you anticipated being out,
you know, at the started to see this.

Speaker 2 (30:49):
Yeah, disappointment and all with a group.

Speaker 12 (30:51):
I know that is playing, you know, under man without question,
but can we pick up the pace just a little
bit to get to give some of these guys some help.

Speaker 2 (30:59):
Who would be talking about right now?

Speaker 8 (31:01):
Yeah, I think that's.

Speaker 13 (31:02):
The one thing, and references in one of his postgame
prescious about Hey, we got to focus on what we
do have rather than what we don't use. Otherwise you're
burning your time. You know this, This is just the
nature of it. Okay, it's bad luck and you know,
and unfortunate, but here we are. So you certainly work
on who you have in lineup and try to maximize that.
And pace of play is certainly one of them. We've

(31:24):
talked about the ball sticking a little bit. I think
you've got to figure out a way to get more
stops and get out and transition and move to basketball
and proper spacing. But you know, the challenge again is,
you know, now you have some guys in different positions
where they don't they haven't been accustomed to playing, or
different responsibilities that they haven't grown accustomed to. Ben Shepherd
is the great example of that. You know, all of

(31:46):
a sudden, he's at the point and now he's you know,
he's asked to facilitate offense and be a little more
aggressive and you know, things that he's probably capable of
but just thinks he hasn't been asked to do.

Speaker 8 (31:55):
So some of that will just take time.

Speaker 13 (31:59):
But I said, I certainly think that at all times,
regardless to who's the lineup. But this will make your
life much easier if you focus on the details defensively
and how you compete there and get some stops and
then you know, any and everybody can go out and
run a fast break.

Speaker 12 (32:16):
Edi Gil from Pacers TV and Radio kind of enough
to join us between Gay actually not until Wednesday. They
find things back up again on the road in Dallas.
Eddie's on the Eddie More Automotive Group potline. So the
NBA hardship rule allows teams to exceed the standard fifteen
man roster limit during times of extreme needs, such as
when multiple players are unable to perform new illness or injury. Obviously,

(32:41):
this was something that was used with regard to COVID nineteen.
We don't want to remember those, but I mean, hell,
it's it's like approaching that effect right now if it's
not already over that particular mark. So we'll see if
they get the opportunity to utilize that, because you know
that that Kevin and Chad and company are like scouring

(33:02):
right now to find any and whatever available help may
be necessary because this team certainly would need it.

Speaker 13 (33:08):
Yeah, I mean you need it for I mean a
multitude of reasons. And again, I think one of the
biggest ones is that you're not overworking the guys that
you have right now, but it certainly down significant manpower.
But having said that, the flip side of it is
there's opportunity, and you know, I'm incredibly happy for guys
like ray J Dennis, you know, bying this time, just

(33:30):
waiting to get an opportunity. He's been in a red
penny at practice every day and you know, kind of
preparing the weather. It's the starters in that second unit
to play in the game, and all of a sudden
he's out there when when he's needed most. And he
responded last night. So again I'm really happy for guys
like that. Quintin Jackson, you know, made an appearance last night,

(33:51):
you know, after he.

Speaker 8 (33:52):
Was nursing an injury as well. So whenever you.

Speaker 13 (33:57):
Have moments like this, there's there's opportunity that flourishes for
people and next thing you know, they've been able to
sustain a long term, long term career because they had
these small pockets of opportunity.

Speaker 12 (34:08):
Hey, before his injury, was Benedick Matherin becoming what you
had hoped on both ends because you could tell, I
mean he was trying to lock down and guard, but
certainly he had shouldered a great deal the offensive load
as we thought he would and was performing at such
a high level. What'd you think about his play before
he did go down with the injury.

Speaker 8 (34:29):
I mean, I thought he was great.

Speaker 13 (34:30):
I thought he was sensational now and now I haven't
said that. It was just a couple of games, so
nothing to take too much from him, although it did
calls for a lot of optimism and what certainly could
be and now haven't said that. He's you know, we'll
eventually get back, hopefully sooner than later, and hopefully he
can rekindle what he started. But man, I'll tell you

(34:50):
what he's in game one, he looks really good. You know,
he gets seventeen free throw attempts, you know, in game
three prior to you know, during that injury.

Speaker 8 (35:00):
He looks really good.

Speaker 13 (35:03):
So yeah, I mean I anticipated him looking somewhat like
this with Tyres Haliburton being out known, he's going to
have greater responsibility and he'll get more opportunity, a longer
extended run, and he certainly was taking advantage of it
prior to injury.

Speaker 12 (35:18):
All Right, So Eddie Garrison just sent me this, have
to have four players miss at least three games with
an injury. Three of those four players have to be
out a mandatory of two weeks. Tyre's Halliburt and the
TJ McConnell meet the first criteria after a Wednesday's game.
Andrew Nemhart and Johnny Furfey will become eligible too, but
I Ninc Matherin will be eligible for that after Friday's game.

(35:40):
So yeah, there's there's some dark moments right there that
I just brought up. That doesn't sound good whatsoever, does it? No,
not at all, not at all. Last season they.

Speaker 13 (35:51):
Had some injury issues but early on, but nothing of
this magnitude. And I don't know that many teams have.

Speaker 8 (35:58):
Experienced this very often at all. Anyway, So you know,
glad that full love it as a couple of things. Again,
some guys get some other guys.

Speaker 13 (36:07):
Get opportunity and and uh and b it's it's you know,
it's not only is it early in the season, it's
at the very start of the season. So in theory, uh,
these guys will recover and there may be some ground
to make up, but but they they'll uh, in theory,
has some time to do that.

Speaker 12 (36:22):
All right, Hey, I appreciate you. Man, get back to
it and we'll do it again very soon. Man, enjoy
the rest of the road trip. We'll see you back
coming up on Friday.

Speaker 8 (36:30):
Yes, sir, appreciate you.
