S1 (00:04):
Hello and welcome back to It All Adds Up the
podcast where we chat about money, how to get it,
how to save it and how to invest it. I'm
Jess Irvine, a senior economics writer at the Sydney Morning
Herald and The Age newspapers.

S2 (00:17):
And I'm Don Powell, money editor at those very same papers.
We hope you all had a lovely break and enjoyed
our summer series Re Heat of the best hits from
our first season. We're back and raring to go, but
we've decided to kick off 2023 with something a little different.

S1 (00:29):
Yeah, that's right. With the cost of living crisis really
biting now. We've decided that we want to talk to you,
our listeners, about how you are coping. Do you have
a budget? Do you know how much you're spending? Dom
Do you know how much you're spending?

S2 (00:43):
No, no, not at all.

S1 (00:45):
That does not surprise me. For some reason I definitely
know how much I'm spending because I write down every
single dollar and highlight it. But I thought we could
actually start this series by calling you across the coals
and seeing if you know where your money's going. Are
you up for it?

S2 (01:03):
Look, I think for the good of the listeners, for
the good of the pod, I'll do it.

S1 (01:07):
You'll expose your finances.

S2 (01:09):
I will expose my finances. But for everyone else, we're
here to help. And we're setting the call out for
you to send us your numbers. They don't have to
be in a fancy spreadsheet like Jess's. They can be
completely unorganized like mine. And in return, we'll take a look,
and we can see if we can find you some
obvious ways to save some cash or achieve a financial
goal or two.

S1 (01:29):
Yeah. You can think of us as your friends down
the pub having a chat, you know, to help you
get to grips with this tricky subject of money and
hopefully put you on a better path to make some
good money decisions in 2023.

S2 (01:40):
Can we actually go to the pub?

S1 (01:43):
Yeah, Dom, if you're buying.

S2 (01:45):
All right, maybe not then. But anyway, this is where
we want you to get involved. Whether you're a spreadsheet
wizard or have no clue at all where you're at.
We'd love you to get in touch. You can email
us at it all. Adds up at 9:00 pm to
you with your name and contact details and a little
bit about you, such as where you live and how
much you think you spend.

S1 (02:02):
Yeah, we personally monitor that email inbox, so if you
do email us a promise that one of us will
be back in touch with you. We'll be dropping our
episodes in this new series from next week, so do
stay tuned.

S2 (02:14):
And I can't wait to be grilled live on air.
So I'll see you then.

S1 (02:17):
Yeah, I can't wait to grill you on it. See
you all then.
