Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to jags HQ, presented by Fresh from Florida. JP
Shadrick and former Jaguar Jeff Logerman sit down each week
with the decision makers of your Jacksonville Jaguars.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
We're gonna bring you a product that you all can
be proud of with that game on.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
Jags HQ presented by Fresh from Florida starts right now.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Welcome.
Speaker 4 (00:24):
It is jags HQ presented by Fresh from Florida from
the Hundai Studios at the Miller Electric Center. We're on
the Jaguars Radio Network, presented by the University of Florida,
number one university in the US News and World Reports,
number one state for education. JP Shadwick with Jeff Logoman, GM,
James Gladstone, EVP Tony Boselli in studio with us. After
(00:46):
a Monday night football win over the Chiefs, the Jags
now four and one, and we'll host the Seattle Seahawks
coming up this Sunday at the Bank. We'll get to
that matchup coming up shortly. We'll touch on the Chiefs
game in a moment, but Business Today trade Alert. The
Jaguars sent Tyson Campbell to the Browns. They receive in
(01:06):
return Greg Newsome the second. There's some other later draft
picks involved in that trade as well. How did it
come about? Why now for the trade James?
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Yeah, you know, I think there's a lot of layers
to that as it relates to the timeline. Right really
at this stage of the calendar year, doing some check
ins with teams ahead of what will be about four
weeks from now the trade deadline, just to get a
grasp for, you know, what teams are needing, what positions,
(01:35):
and what they might be hunting up, whether it is
that they'll be seeking players, seeking picks as we approach
that trade deadline, and just getting a pulse for that.
And really that's where this started, and you know, just
the natural progression of the conversation with Andrew actually ended
up leading us down the path of entertaining this as
(01:55):
a concept, and over the course of the evening hours
to come to some version of an idea that this
was something both parties thought was going to be in
the best interest of their teams and able to execute
it there, you know, just a little bit past nine
point thirty, and then I think probably became more public
knowledge around ten o'clock or so.
Speaker 5 (02:16):
If I'm not mistaken and so it happened relatively.
Speaker 6 (02:19):
Past past my bedtime. Yeah, I was.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Yeah, you know what, I think a few people involved
could say that nonetheless really excited about, you know, adding
Gregg to the equation.
Speaker 6 (02:33):
I think obviously you a relationship with Andrew Berry. You
had the draft day trade to get Travis Hunter. Did
that help things? Having the previous conversation, Where is this
something that you try to facilitate with all the general
managers around the league? As you say, you were kind
of calling to check in at this time of year.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Yeah, I think it doesn't hurt that we have a
prior experience, you know, working through a trade. At the
same time, I think just ensuring that we have a
pulse for what's going on around the landscape of the
league is important and that just includes touch points, right
whether or not there's any tangible action tied to that.
I think just being you know, up to date and
(03:15):
in the no so to speak, is an appropriate step.
It's obviously a responsibility of mine, So it comes with
that as just some organic conversation that can sometimes lead
to actionable items, and I think in this instance it's
clear to say that it did.
Speaker 6 (03:29):
Yeah, I'm looking at the PFF numbers, and Biselli is
a big believer in the CFS that James important. Just
Tyson Campbell seventy first rated PFF corner according to snap count,
you know, requirements or whatever.
Speaker 7 (03:48):
How many out of I don't know.
Speaker 6 (03:50):
I mean, that's just it's probably a longer list than
seventy one.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
I would assume how many starting corners in the NFL.
If let's just say there's two on every.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
Team, three on every team three Because there's no special
category in PFF for Nichols, you got ninety six, You've
got Nichols.
Speaker 6 (04:04):
Okay, so ninety six. Greg Newsom considerably higher, rated fortieth
according to PFF, with a sixty three point nine like it. Yeah,
And here's the question that I have, who's the top?
Speaker 8 (04:16):
Did you find out who the top rated?
Speaker 6 (04:18):
I will tell you right now, Antoine.
Speaker 7 (04:20):
Winfield, Well that would be a safety Well, excuse me.
Speaker 4 (04:23):
I changed the Will Johnson, Oh, I like it. Will
Johnson has won Shavariu's Ward two, Isaiah Rodgers three, Jamel
Dean four, Kenny Moore the second five, Jordan LUs seven.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
Okay, I thought I had to go.
Speaker 8 (04:45):
I know for Jordan Lewis number one personally.
Speaker 6 (04:49):
Darien Kendrick, who.
Speaker 5 (04:51):
Is Ram We're about to see you here this weekend.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
Let's go there, he's that ten. Okay, you're you or ten?
He's You're a fan of his? Devin Withers doing who
I an?
Speaker 8 (05:03):
We're in trouble.
Speaker 6 (05:03):
He's fourteen. He's fourteen. So trying to find the next
Jaguars corner on the list here, which is Greg Newsom
at forty?
Speaker 8 (05:13):
There you go like you yeah, let's go.
Speaker 4 (05:15):
What kind of different player personality is Newsom is compared
to Tyson? Tyson off the feels great, loved him, everybody's
been here.
Speaker 9 (05:22):
Let's first of all super grateful for what Tyson gave
to the organization. Have can't have nothing negative say about
Tyson Campbell pros pro did everything we asked, handle the
whole situation with grace and as a professional, was a competitive,
helped to win games, helped He's part of us being
four and one this year, So let's not forget that.
(05:45):
But sometimes you got to look at the bigger picture
and and make uh tough decisions. James did a great
job of leading us through this whole process, and I
think you get a guy in Greg Newsom who you
just turn on the tape and watch him. He's an
outstanding cover corner us both skills in man or zone concepts.
I think one of the things we got an early
view at him week two because they the Browns played
(06:08):
the Bengals right before we did, and watching him match
up against THEE. Higgins and and Jamar Chase was man.
That was a lot of fun to watch.
Speaker 7 (06:15):
Uh.
Speaker 9 (06:16):
They did a great job that. You know, him and
Denzel Award two the better corners in this league, were
asked to play a lot of man coverage and putting
really tough, really tough opportunities that they had to work
through and UH and watching him handle that, and then
you just go back to last week is him being
matched up against Justin Jefferson over in London. Just a
(06:38):
very competitive individual, very confident and I think really what
he does a good job is when the ball's in
the air of going to make a play on the ball.
So looking forward to him getting out there on the
field for us and UH and UH, but also have
to have some patience during this process because you know
he won't be able to practice with us until tomorrow
for the first time, you know, spending time right now
(07:00):
with our coaches getting an understanding of the defense and
kind of how we operate in the terminology, and probably
we're much more varied in our coverages than Cleveland, which
is really a heavy man team. We do run some
man concepts, but a lot of vision, a lot of
vision on the quarterback in the zone concepts that camp
he likes to deploy.
Speaker 8 (07:20):
So we'll see where it goes. But we're excited to
have Greg in the building.
Speaker 6 (07:24):
Tell me about the swap because you know you're sending
a seventh to Cleveland receiving a six. Where where might
they be in draft order? Like number number, not like
in the round, but the number overall.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
Yeah, so it's actually going to be the Philadelphia Eagles
seventh that we're sending to Cleveland, So fans can determine
where Doeshilly that might end up.
Speaker 5 (07:47):
Yeah, one to thirty two in the.
Speaker 6 (07:50):
Round, and Philly's pretty good.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
They're sending us the New York Jets sixth, So fans,
if you're interested in you like a five, figure.
Speaker 7 (07:58):
Out where that falls.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
So said four Jets, he would know there we go
for our first round pick of the New York Jets.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
So some version of let's just say it ends up
to where the New York Jets are somewhere in the
top fifteen picks of the round the Philadelphia Eagles, or
in the back fifteen.
Speaker 7 (08:20):
Picks in the round.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
You're talking about the front end of the sixth, back
end of the seventh as a part of that sweet difference.
Speaker 4 (08:25):
Yeah, all right, guys, Let's get a quick thought on
the Chiefs results winning result. What's the touchdown has scored
by Trevor Lawrence? Well before set the scenario? Where are
you guys watching this and what's going through your head
when Trevor hits the deck.
Speaker 9 (08:42):
I'll let James get into that before we do that
real quick. Guy just wanted to talk about the atmosphere
in the building. Yeah, I mean, that was pretty cool evening,
and we asked our fans to come out to get
there early.
Speaker 8 (08:52):
Head coaches on.
Speaker 9 (08:53):
The show last week he was and James and I
have talked about the importance of the fan and.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
By the way, that was a rating spike when he
was on here when he came maybe.
Speaker 8 (09:06):
We'll turn it back to William come show.
Speaker 9 (09:09):
But not only did they show up, you know, in
the game, but they got there early and I think
really represented our city, made it difficult for Patrick Mahomes
and that offense to operate, and so super grateful for
that fan base. But hey, we got another one coming
up Sunday. No it's not Monday Night football, but it's
just as important for us to get to five to
(09:29):
one before we go to London. We wanted, you know,
the opportunity of playing from our home fans because we're
gonna be gone for a little bit with the buy in.
Speaker 6 (09:39):
Again. November November sixteen, sixteen.
Speaker 9 (09:41):
Yeah, so this is you know, about a month we
have so man, we hope the bank is filled just
like it was Monday night, same atmosphere, same energy. Because boy,
our players felt it. To our players or coaches, I
felt yeah, everyone felt it.
Speaker 8 (09:53):
It came fit the TV. Man.
Speaker 9 (09:55):
We represented ourselves very well as a fan base, as
a city, as a team. But asta fans come back,
get there early support our guys.
Speaker 10 (10:03):
Is.
Speaker 9 (10:03):
We got a huge test against Seattle Seahawks, which I
know we'll talk about a little bit, but I'll let
James talk about where what was going on at that moment.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
Give us the scene set here when he hits the deck.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
What's happening you know what, I probably start back to
the beginning of the drive, right, if we're going to
storytell what a great start by bea shall Tuton right
to not be over hyped up in that moment. It's
a big moment. They're kicking off. Let the ball go
out of bound. We start to drive on the forty right.
(10:39):
At this point, we're in a very good position to strike.
Speaker 5 (10:42):
Now even before that, right, all right, it might be tough.
We might have.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
Very small window here to work with on the time front.
Good thing was we got a healthy volume of minutes
still on the clock to operate with. We're able to
actually have tre use his legs a couple different times,
not go out of bounds, not throw the ball away,
and still be able to operate with time on the
clock and to see a couple of the throws that
(11:10):
he was able to make, a couple of the catches
that our receivers were able to haul in in order
to get us into a position that ultimately led to
a DPI.
Speaker 7 (11:20):
Get us on the hold line.
Speaker 6 (11:21):
Can I interject here, and I just want real quick
because you're talking about the catch that I earlier just
said this and I gave you some props because on
the long pass to BTJ, you got two seventh round
picks blocking Chris Jones in the middle. Okay, I just
wanted to throw.
Speaker 7 (11:34):
That in there.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
Those were some impressive tag teams, you know, for those
two guys. Yeah, that was an impressive moment in time
to see those two step into the big stage and
not flinch, be as prepared as they needed to be
in order to come through and fulfill their obligation within
the role. Obviously, that points to a lot of great
(11:55):
work from their coaches, great work from them as individuals,
knowing that they're not on the grass for a high
number of snaps up to that point and are ready
to work and so that's not an easy thing to do.
Speaker 7 (12:07):
You two know that better than anybody.
Speaker 5 (12:10):
But nonetheless, yes, great point to flag.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
But for us to then put ourselves in a position
on the goal line, after having been in a position
earlier in the game on the goal line and failed
to see the the play design that was the slip
six right was fascinating right to go down. We're tapping
(12:35):
back into the New Orleans Saints game. There we screw
it up by fumbling it right, but now we're holding on.
We're getting back up and Trevor being in a position where, hey,
there were probably thoughts that were like throw it away, right,
but says, you know what, screw it, Ezra's going to
clean up and take away any defensive lineman. That's right,
(13:01):
and I'm going to go ahead and slip through this
tackle and we're gonna win this football game right here.
Speaker 8 (13:06):
Now.
Speaker 6 (13:06):
Great, that was by Chris Jones.
Speaker 7 (13:08):
You know what, I'll tell you what.
Speaker 2 (13:10):
Going a little tempo in that setting it seemed to
help because even on Trevor's first touchdown, it showed itself.
So I do think those those layers to the strategic
approach to that game played into our hand at some
of those critical moments, both of which we can point
to Trevor's rushing touch So the.
Speaker 6 (13:30):
Name, do we go with the slip six or do
we go with stumble Ruskie?
Speaker 7 (13:35):
That's it. I would say your vote.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
Everyone's choice is their own, because we all lived a
fantastic moment and we get the luxury of referring to
it however we choose. I'm probably not the one that
we probably got to take a fan vote. It's probably
the most appropriate that wouldn't just choose that for everybody.
But I do think that is a moment in life
that many will remember for their duration.
Speaker 6 (14:01):
Right, So that's there's a game that came down to
the wire in this place. That was that crazy.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
Yeah, that was a pretty cool moment, There's no doubt.
And to see so many, I mean we were we
were laughing a little earlier because Liam got sent some
of the like live feed fan reactions in the seats
and like them taking selfies in themselves watching it, and
it's the expressions where everything that everyone was living and
it's just a fantastic moment for the Jacksonville Jaguars for
(14:31):
I mean, it's it's what sport is. That's what it's about,
some of those special moments in time.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
And guess what, there's more this week, the Seattle Seahawks
are coming to town. Will return and take a look
at this matchup with the three and two Seahawks facing
the four and one Jaguars. This is Jaggs HQ on
the Jaguars Radio Network.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
Jaggs HQ, presented by Fresh from Florida, continues right now.
Speaker 4 (14:54):
This is Jaggs as qu Jap Shaddrick, Jeff Loggling from
the Hundai Studios of the Miller Electric Center, Tony was
selling James Gladstone live in studio with us in The
Seahawks Jaguars game is presented by Florida Blue, proud to
be the exclusive health insurance provider and support the Jacksonville
community as the official community partner of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Seahawks three and two, the Jaguars four and one.
(15:18):
And I want to start on Seahawks offense here. Sam Darnold,
guy who's been around a few different teams, found his way,
certainly in Minnesota last year. He's doing it again in
Seattle this time around. And they're throwing this thing all
over the yard right now.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
Not all unlike what he was going through this time
last year. He's finding his groove and he's playing at
a high level. You know, that offense in particular, they
got a nice balance of rushing and passing attack. They
tilt towards heavy personnel twelve personnel groupings and want to
lean into the run to start and open up their
play action passing attack. And you know, even at the
(15:56):
receiver position, they got some high level folks player and
Cooper Cup and JSN who's you know yet to peak
and is on his way.
Speaker 6 (16:06):
That's what I need to do is call him JSN.
Speaker 7 (16:08):
Yes, Yeah, he's good, a little faster, a lot.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
Yeah, there's no doubt. And their tight ends are playing well.
They got some young receivers who are doing good things
in special teams but also contributing on offense. It's tying
well together for them. I don't know that their three
and two record is a true reflection of just how
good they are as a team, but offensively they they
certainly have an identity and and they're clicking.
Speaker 7 (16:33):
They're doing good stuff.
Speaker 6 (16:35):
Watching Sam Darman and Tony I remember when he was
coming out of SC you were a big fan, and
not just because he was a Sea guy. You thought
he was really good and even when he didn't really
make it with the Jets, which is dysfunctional franchise, you
still believed in him. And watching the film on him.
From this past game against Tampa Bay, he had one
(16:55):
bad play which was a deflection off the helmet, but
the way he managed the pocket I thought was impressive
in that game.
Speaker 9 (17:03):
Yeah, I mean he's a he's a guy that can
make all the throws. He's a really good arm he has,
he's accurate, I'm not saying he's like elite accuracy, but
he can put it where he wants to and he
I think the thing that surprises people he's a better
athlete than he gets credit for. He can move around
by time, mostly in the pocket. He's not like your
true running quarterback, but he's he's elusive. He can get outside,
(17:25):
he can extend plays, which makes him that much more dangerous.
And I think in this offense. You know, they brought
Clint Kubiak in this year's offense corner because they wanted
to get back to that twelve personnel, run the ball
physical style and then have the play action pass off it,
which is really perfect for what Sam. How he can
operate and and I think you've seen it earlier this year.
(17:48):
He's played at a high level. Had a great game
against Tampa. I think the one thing that Sam to
struggle with over the years is when you can make
when you can muddy it up in front of him
a little bit, get after him early, he will try
He'll put the ball in perilous places at times. Still
try to you know, if you change the picture on him,
will try to stick it in there a little bit.
And did that last year here and that's what happened.
(18:08):
So but when he gets into rhythm and they get
the run game going, and they got a really good
run game. The offensive line's playing well, and Kenneth Walker
is a dangerous back who does a great job of
working into the line of scrimmage. He has good vision,
he'll cut late and if you don't have really good
gap integrity, he's in acresia. He's fast, and he can
he's a home run track. He's a guy who can
(18:28):
score from any place on the field.
Speaker 8 (18:30):
So they're a dangerous team.
Speaker 6 (18:32):
They easily could be four.
Speaker 8 (18:33):
And one, five and zero.
Speaker 9 (18:34):
I mean they lost a very tight game last week.
Back and Forth might be the most complete team we've
played so far on our schedule. It's gonna be a
great test for us, and I think our guys are
looking forward to it.
Speaker 4 (18:46):
You were around Cooper Cup for a long time. So
how different is he of a player now? You said
he's still cerebral that never really goes away. What's what's
the difference now about Cup as opposed to when you
were with him.
Speaker 7 (18:57):
Oh, he is a special person's special player. He is
a coach on the field.
Speaker 2 (19:03):
Great for somebody like JSN who's you know, just a
few years in and can leverage the knowledge that Cooper possesses.
Speaker 7 (19:09):
And you always got to account for him.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
You know, he's got such a savvness to his game that,
especially when he's aligned against someone who has.
Speaker 5 (19:18):
A corner.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
Is aggressive and going to try and bring the fight
to you, he can play into that really well. Matching
his savvy with savvy is probably the best approach that
you can he can take because he can certainly, you know,
lean into some of the the techniques to sort of
get you to play out of your your comfort zone,
(19:41):
er play over your ski, so to speak, if you're
you're too aggressive with him, so he can still do
plenty to hurt you. And you know as a blocker
that also never leaves once you have that mentality. Uh.
And he's got such strength he can he can really
dent the line of scrimmage. As a receiver, we always
uh sort of joking we said that, you know, with
(20:01):
the Rams, we didn't.
Speaker 7 (20:02):
Have wide receivers.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
We had tight receivers and you know, condensed formations acting
more as tight ends as a part of the run game,
and Cooper certainly fits.
Speaker 7 (20:12):
That bill well.
Speaker 6 (20:13):
Can he still run.
Speaker 7 (20:14):
Oh yeah, I mean he plays football.
Speaker 6 (20:16):
Okay, I mean, I mean, you know, guys typically when
they get a little older, you know, some of the
some of the tread gets a little thin, and he
runs better than you, and I well, that's not hard
to be honest, Can you even run anymore?
Speaker 4 (20:29):
No?
Speaker 6 (20:29):
All right, me either.
Speaker 8 (20:30):
That's why everyone's better than.
Speaker 3 (20:31):
Me, Limp.
Speaker 6 (20:33):
It's kind of a joggling exactly.
Speaker 8 (20:36):
Now. He still play football. He's a good football.
Speaker 6 (20:38):
But I'd love to ask you the questions about some
of these guys that that they draft. And Grey's Abel
was a highly talented offensive lineman out of North Dakota
State and he is the starting left guard for the
Seattle Seahawks. A lot of people out there draft necks.
What were your thoughts on him?
Speaker 2 (20:56):
We were under the impression that he could play either
one of the two interior spots center guard, and uh,
you know, if he would have ever been somebody that
we would have brought in here, I think it would
have would have been a tall task to beat out
one of the three veterans that we have starting on
that front. But certainly felt like where Seattle selected him
was within the realm of of reasonable and appropriate because
(21:19):
clearly he's off to a good start here through the
first hand full of games for them and really being
one of their higher performers on the interior.
Speaker 6 (21:26):
How in the world did North Dakota State becomes a
pipeline power.
Speaker 7 (21:29):
It's a pipeline for going on.
Speaker 2 (21:32):
We got some receivers that keep coming out of there too.
I mean, qbs have been a thing for them.
Speaker 7 (21:37):
So yeah, it's it's pretty impressive, pretty impressive.
Speaker 3 (21:40):
The Bison can get it done. Let's come back in
a Sorry, I was going.
Speaker 7 (21:44):
To say where Gus Bradley came from.
Speaker 6 (21:46):
So that's no, he's uh, he's a different school. He's
not North Dakota State. He is, Yes, I thought he was.
Speaker 2 (21:55):
No.
Speaker 4 (21:56):
Thanks, We're back in a moment. The Seahawks defense. We'll
get into those guys and get some final thoughts at
of Week six, the Seahawks and the Jaguars coming up.
Speaker 3 (22:07):
It's Jags HQ on Jaguars Radio.
Speaker 1 (22:16):

Speaker 3 (22:51):
I just read it out here ten to do.
Speaker 8 (22:53):
That was only paying attention.
Speaker 9 (22:55):
I'm gonna get there at ten, but I have to
be back at the facility by ten fifty five, so we.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
Get there early, is what you're saying. If you want to, Well,
I'll be there.
Speaker 8 (23:06):

Speaker 9 (23:08):
He'll be there a bit longer than I am. But
the music, the food, all the stuff goes on right
up the game time time.
Speaker 6 (23:15):
Got any bloody marriage there?
Speaker 8 (23:16):
Oh yeah, they'll be everything. Jeff. You can stop on
by the before you go on the air. I'm sure
just what I need.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
You got invited, James or no yet?
Speaker 7 (23:24):
I guess was that my invite?
Speaker 3 (23:25):
That might have been.
Speaker 9 (23:25):
Yeah, he is invited, but I don't want to. He's
very busy. He's very important that day. So he's an
important man.
Speaker 3 (23:32):
That's what it is.
Speaker 4 (23:33):
Let's touch on the Seahawks defense and they stop the run.
Third in the league against the run so far this year.
Let's start up front with this group and the powerful
front four.
Speaker 2 (23:44):
In front seven, we've seen some good, good fronts. This
one is very much in the conversation for best to date.
Speaker 7 (23:52):
They have waves of players.
Speaker 5 (23:54):
You know, it's really not a front four, it's the
front eight that you can consider them.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
Uh. You know, we got a little sibling rivalry going
on one of our scouting staff members. Her brother is
ninety four Mike Morris. So but I know they're not
talking this week, ready for some game action. But nonetheless,
their front eight is a that is a formidable group,
and it's going to require a lot of focus on
(24:19):
our end to ensure that we're able to find success
there in both phases.
Speaker 6 (24:23):
Is Byron Murphy all that I thought he was coming
out of Texas.
Speaker 2 (24:27):
Yeah, he's taking a really nice step here in year two.
He's shown out in a real way. I know there
were early moments last year that spoke to why he
got selected where he did, and then quieted down throughout
the course of the season. But he is in a
real strong position to make his presence felt from one
(24:48):
game to the next.
Speaker 6 (24:49):
He doesn't have a lot of length, and I think
that was probably a criticism on him coming out. It
was only a six foot guy. But look, you knew
very well in LA that length doesn't ness necessarily have
to be required to play.
Speaker 7 (25:02):
Well, that's right, that's right.
Speaker 2 (25:03):
He was somebody that we certainly had our eye on
in the conversation during that draft. He went before we
ever had an opportunity to select, so it wasn't something
for us to ever decide. But he goes into vision
and so we faced him twice a year last year
and certainly know that he's somebody that every team's going
to have to account for when they match up against
the Seahawks. Beyond that, you're looking at a second level
(25:25):
with another former Ram and Ernest Jones, who's kind of
leading the way for their linebacking corps. And I know
that the way that he plays the game is very clean,
it's very systematic, and so you know you're getting a
fundamentally sound approach from their second level and then at
the third levels a group that includes some very cerebral safety,
(25:46):
some very trait sy corners. They have dealt with some
injuries and that's led to Darrion Kendrick getting more opportunities.
I think you said he was in the top ten
of the PFF rankings, So he's gotten his hand on
the ball couple of times here with these ops that
he's been given because of injuries. But also Witherspoon, he's
(26:06):
coming back, He's back at practice. He is a spark
plug for them, and you know his energy, his playdemeanor
is is something that stands out. And I think at
all three levels there are players that we're going to
have to make sure that we keep an eye on
because they can make a difference.
Speaker 6 (26:21):
Kind of a fun fact here, Darien Kendrick or Darion Kendrick, who.
Speaker 3 (26:28):
Is a corner for the DK.
Speaker 7 (26:30):
If you're going JSN, you taw him DK.
Speaker 6 (26:33):
He was actually he caught balls from Trevor Lawrence at Clemson.
He was a wide receiver that got converted to corner
and he has fifteen catches for two hundred and ten
yards back in twenty eighteen at Clemson pretty.
Speaker 5 (26:45):
Wild, pretty wild back there, pretty wild.
Speaker 9 (26:49):
If you talk about Bayern Murphy at Frumpy. Also, I
think Leonard Williams is the one.
Speaker 3 (26:52):
That eleven years, he's eleven years still.
Speaker 9 (26:56):
I mean, he's such a I think he's really the
thing that makes them go up front with his length,
his he has such strong hands and it's so powerful
with his upper body that he defeats doubles really well.
Speaker 2 (27:09):
And Jeff he said he didn't like Sam Darnold simply
because he was a Trojan.
Speaker 10 (27:13):
I mean, are we sure think trojan l I mean,
now the gym can listen, he can like say come
over the top and say my scouting is poor and
my evaluation of Leonard Williams is poor.
Speaker 7 (27:25):
Unfortunately he's on point, because that's gonna be key.
Speaker 8 (27:29):
Because what do we like to do. We like to play.
Speaker 9 (27:31):
We run inside mid zone. We like to run too.
We want to move people off the ball. We talk
about being a physical team, which our offensive line's done
a great job. Obviously we're gonna have you know, we
have our hands full. But you get a guy like
Leondard Williams who eleven years, third team, but every place
he goes, the one thing that he does consistently. Is
he is a dominant player in the run game. He
(27:53):
can push the pocket in the pass game. But man,
his upper body strength and his ability to defeat doubles
is really impressive.
Speaker 6 (28:00):
But he's got a little extra motivation this week now.
I mean he's, you know what, the high school and
Dayton's it's coming home. I saw his interview on seahawks
dot com or whatever their website is, and he's got
quite a few tickets.
Speaker 9 (28:13):
Yeah, it's I mean, that's they got a really good front.
I mean, I think it starts and you know, you
and James talked a lot about the second and third level,
but to me watching this team, it starts with their
front four. That's where they're they're gonna get after you.
That's where they're gonna make it, you know, very difficult
for you.
Speaker 6 (28:33):
Who's the if you take Leonard Williams and Byron Murphy
out of the equation, who's the next best defensive lineman
that they have?
Speaker 7 (28:42):
That's fair to ask, Red certainly.
Speaker 8 (28:44):
Yeah, I think there. Derek Halls is a guy who ends.
Speaker 5 (28:48):
Yeah, Derek's Derek's off to a great start.
Speaker 8 (28:50):
Yeah, he's playing. He's a guy.
Speaker 9 (28:52):
Yeah, he's a rush guy, Derek Hall, you know, so
he's they called. They don't call him at the end,
but that's what he is.
Speaker 8 (28:58):
Yeah, he's a rush they have. They play a little bit.
Speaker 9 (29:01):
You know, their head coach came from Baltimore, so it's
a little bit of that Baltimore defense. It's a three
four four three. They a lot of four to three
structure with three four principles. So you're gonna see different looks,
different body types. Some will be standing up, but really
at the end of the day, their defensive ends is
gonna drop very little. We're gonna come after, come after
and be physical. And he's playing really well right now
(29:25):
for them.
Speaker 4 (29:26):
All Right, final thoughts here, home game at the Bank,
last chance to see the Jags in Jacksonville since until
mid November.
Speaker 9 (29:33):
So gotta get here and gotta have that fancy. Yeah,
we need fan sport listen. We need to get the
five to one. This is the biggest game of the season.
There is not a bigger game that we've had.
Speaker 7 (29:42):
Franchise history.
Speaker 9 (29:43):
Franchise history, I mean this year, the history of the
franchise right now is the most important time. And people
might laugh, but we really believe that. I mean there's
nothing more important than us getting a win against the Seahawks.
Whether it's because we're not gonna be home for another month,
we go to one the next week, and the reality
is because it's the next one, it's the next opportunity.
(30:04):
And one of the things this team has done so
far has responded to every opportunity they've had, adversity, they faced, success.
We've had a big win on Monday night, didn't play
our best football. I think there's a lot of people
in this building that aren't happy right now with the
performance and want to.
Speaker 8 (30:19):
Get out there. And a lot of times you say
get that taste out of your mouth after a loss.
Speaker 9 (30:23):
I think a lot of guys are ready to get
on the field and say, hey, let's go show who
we are. That's nice talk, but we got to go
do it, and we didn't have the support of the
fans out there.
Speaker 8 (30:31):
Would be great.
Speaker 4 (30:32):
It's amazing to do it after a win, certainly at
four and one. James, thanks for the time as always
in the insight.
Speaker 3 (30:37):
Great to see you.
Speaker 8 (30:38):
Thank you.
Speaker 6 (30:40):
You doing this in London next week, Yes.
Speaker 3 (30:43):
At the hotel. We will be there. We will be there.
Speaker 4 (30:45):
Can't wait with microphones they travel across four of them
get excited.
Speaker 11 (30:51):
I thought we would have more excitement excited. Yeah, last
year we did in a pub we did was that
two years ago? It was a couple of years ago.
It was talking into the other thing. What else are
you gonna do there?
Speaker 6 (31:02):
Oh?
Speaker 8 (31:02):
We got plenty to do, you know what we got.
Speaker 2 (31:05):
I'm already behind this week on my player list on
the college front.
Speaker 7 (31:09):
So next week we're turning to ol love it.
Speaker 8 (31:12):
But where aready?
Speaker 7 (31:13):
I know, l I'm a week behind.
Speaker 6 (31:15):
Gonna go.
Speaker 3 (31:15):
It's jags HQ and the Jaguars Radio Network.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
Welcome back. Jaggs HQ presented by Fresh from Florida continues right.
Speaker 4 (31:31):
Now and we are on the Jaguars Radio Network, presented
by the University of Florida, number one university in the
US News and World Reports, number one state for education.
JP Shadwick with Jeff Logoman our thanks to Tony BUSSELLI EVP.
James Gladstone, general manager, busy couple of days for them
making trades mid season. He is not scared that James
(31:52):
Gladstone to pull the trigger on a trade.
Speaker 6 (31:55):
Now he will do it. I mean, look at uh.
I hate to refer back to the PF theft numbers,
but that's the one thing that you can use as
a measuring tool, and that tool says that just you know,
apples to apples, that you got a better player. I
like Tyson Campbell. I think he's a high quality individual
and hope that he does great and his next stop
(32:17):
with the Cleveland Browns. I think it's also exciting that
you got a guy that is on a contract year
with an opportunity to retain him after this year. And
you know, I would say that Tyson Campbell was at
the top of the market for cornerbacks when it comes
to pay, but I don't think the play equal the
(32:38):
top of the market pay. And so when you have
that kind of disparity, as a general manager, your responsibility
is to make sure that you try to get the
pay and the play on equal terms. And so I'm
glad that they were able to kind of free themselves
of that financial responsibility.
Speaker 3 (32:59):
But the get a.
Speaker 6 (33:00):
Player of equal or better value in the process, that's
pretty pretty amazing.
Speaker 4 (33:04):
There's some dead cap hit this year, but that it
clears out and they should be in good shape. I
think fifty million bucks or so right now going to
the next season. It's a lot of money, and that's
we're far from done, so there's who knows what else
could happen moving ahead. So yeah, I mean they were
just as flabbergasted, I think was the with the with
(33:25):
the finish against Kansas City as most of us were.
They held it together a little more and you know,
but that's it's a unique win for the Jags and
still a lot to be done. And that's Tony's last
thought was, Yeah, there's a lot of lot of upset
people in here this week with the way they played
but still won.
Speaker 6 (33:43):
Well I get that, you know, just because look kind
of again that theme of look it's prime time. You
get amped up. You want to be able to be
at your best, but you don't want to get over
hyped and to perform. And I think a little bit
of that was had it all off kilter a little
bit for this football team. And I remember listening to
Bucky Brooks give us a halftime report of what was
(34:06):
said in the locker room, and the head coach I
thought had the magic words, you know, which I think,
you know, when he said the team, hey, look we're
better than that. Let's settle down and just play our game,
and you know, you could tell that the team coming
out after halftime really did settle down. So credit to
the coaching staff and credit to the players for having
(34:26):
the second half that they did.
Speaker 3 (34:27):
All Right, we're back in a moment. We'll get a
tease of The Hunt. The next episode.
Speaker 6 (34:33):
Dropping tonight tonight. Don't watch it, Okay, it's probably gonna
be thirty forty minutes. You got to watch it after
after Okay, Jaguars All Access to.

Speaker 6 (34:49):

Speaker 8 (34:52):

Speaker 6 (34:52):

Speaker 3 (34:53):

Speaker 1 (35:06):
Welcome Back, Jaggs HQ, presented by Fresh from Florida continues

Speaker 3 (35:26):
Also tonight, it's another episode of The Hunt. Here's the
teaser heading into week one. It's establishing our idea.
Speaker 6 (35:44):
You know, are we the hammer, or are we the nail.
Speaker 3 (35:48):
Let's be the most physical team and the most violent team.
Speaker 8 (35:50):
These guys every time.
Speaker 7 (35:52):
The idea of the team has really just been toughness.
Speaker 3 (35:57):
It's not about horror face, and it's about them having
about the listening there.
Speaker 9 (36:00):
Now you were saying all week like they're trying to
be the bulls, but the way it's like a new
bully in tow.
Speaker 6 (36:05):
We're not going for none of that.
Speaker 8 (36:07):
We stand in the paint.
Speaker 6 (36:08):
We're going I'm gonna fight you back.
Speaker 3 (36:09):
Let's go.
Speaker 4 (36:12):
Learning how to win difficult games, especially not playing your
best is very warning.
Speaker 8 (36:20):
A lot of it was just.
Speaker 3 (36:20):
Reminding the guys and letting them know who they're capable
of being.
Speaker 8 (36:26):
You know, they have a belief that something great's gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (36:29):
What an oppmmunity for us to go kick down a door,
go check it down. Obviously he didn't picking his way.
Speaker 9 (36:37):
He's got some funny to the open field.
Speaker 8 (36:40):
Thirty were already downfield.
Speaker 4 (36:42):
They pay Tom Jordy Lewis vicked off.
Speaker 3 (36:44):
What a play they played?
Speaker 10 (36:45):
Funny you did ten God touchdown, I'm the play.
Speaker 6 (36:50):
Now he's gonna try and run in.
Speaker 8 (36:53):
I'll cut down severn In hay right in.
Speaker 4 (37:00):
There. You have it the Hunt episode eight tonight seven
o'clock on Jaguars YouTube and you can get behind the
scenes looks exclusively of everything that's happened so far this

Speaker 4 (37:16):
Check it out debuting again or the next episode debuts tonight.
Speaker 3 (37:21):
We're back in a moment.
Speaker 4 (37:22):
Jeff Logman back with us plenty to discuss heading into
week number six. And this is jags HQ and the
Jaguars Radio Network. Welcome back as jaggs HQ presented by
Fred from Florida. In week six is here. The Jaguars
gere up to go head to head with the Seattle
Seahawks in the Crucial Catch Game. It's dedicated to the
fight against cancer. Join us this Sunday at EverBank Stadium
(37:43):
as we raise awareness through early.
Speaker 3 (37:45):
Detection, risk reduction and education.
Speaker 4 (37:47):
Locking your tickets at Jaguars dot com slash tickets for
Cold nine oh four, six, three, three two thousand, JP Shadwick,
Jeff Logman, the Seahawks and the Jaguars. We've to a
lot on the offensive part of Jaguars football. Certainly the
Jags defense taking the ball away with the special teams
(38:07):
groups have been making an impact getting better. Yeah, and boy,
last week they had Quinn Allen making some plays. They
had Rayon Lane down the field and.
Speaker 6 (38:19):
He's really I mean, I mean, for I remember when
the final roster cuts down came about Daniel Thomas. I
was like, please find a way to keep him because
he's just been so good in the past. And when
he ended up moving on and I was like, wait,
wait a minute, I mean, how do you replace that guy? Well,
you replace that guy with Rayon Lane, who has been fantastic,
(38:41):
I mean fantastic on special teams. He had a really
good job as had gone to the first two punch
that the Jaguars had when they didn't have any offensive success.
The two part returns went for three yards total, and
then the Quinn Allen laid in the ball game ended
up having like a thirty eight yard kick return that
gave the Jaguars the ball at the mind is forty
one that allowed them to have a goal ahead score
(39:03):
which the Kansasity Chiefs scored again, but nonetheless lit Quinn
Allen is having an impact so and Cam Little made
the field goal opportunity that he had. I thought Logan
Cook had a strong outing and the coverage units overall
got better. And the challenge this week is also pretty
high against Seattle because they had a ninety five yard
(39:26):
punt return for a touchdown earlier this year, which was
a Seattle Seahawks record, and that was by Tory Horton.
And then their kick return guy last week, which is
Derek Young, had a forty three and a fifty yard
kick return. So the challenge of special teams this week
I think goes up and it's a little personal.
Speaker 8 (39:48):
Okay, okay.
Speaker 4 (39:49):
And the reason it's a little personals Heath Farwell, the
Jaguars special teams coordinator, has a little history in Seattle
as a player.
Speaker 3 (39:56):
Sure, and their kicker has history here he does Jason,
So there you go. Revenge.
Speaker 6 (40:02):
Is that Jason Myers, the one from Friday the thirteenth.
Speaker 3 (40:05):
I hope.
Speaker 4 (40:06):
So that means he's gonna scarily miss field goals. That's
a different guy. That's a different guy here. I'm told
it's Michael Myers. Okay, he just wanted to make a
great joke lost all right, just wanted to.
Speaker 6 (40:16):
Make sure just check it. By the way, Jason Myers
got a big leg, Yes he does.
Speaker 3 (40:21):
He got that was the whole thing. It was just
all over the place when he was here. But he's
for the most part straightened it out. In Seattle.
Speaker 4 (40:27):
He was the Jaguars kicker two thousand and fifteen to
two thousand and seventeen.
Speaker 6 (40:33):
He's had a great career. He's still rolling too.
Speaker 4 (40:36):
Let's come back in a moment and get our final
thoughts ahead of the Seahawks Jaguars matchup. It is Jags
HQ on Jaguars Radio. Welcome Back Jacks x Q, presented
by a fresh from Florida j P. Shadwick Jeff Logiman

(41:00):
Can catch other this archives if you've missed it, if
you're driving around.
Speaker 6 (41:04):
Of miss Man, I got, I got a lot on
my menu, I got, I got sounds of the game. Yeah,
you're busy that that just popped. I think earlier today
you've got the hunt that's out at seven o'clock to night.
Speaker 3 (41:15):
You did a film room earlier this week film room I.
Speaker 4 (41:18):
Did, and also Jaguars All Access tonight with Josh Heinz Allen.
Speaker 3 (41:24):
I mean, what more do you want? I mean, it's
we're filling up the content funnel here.
Speaker 6 (41:29):
Great, fantastic national TV win in front of a packed
ever Bank Stadium, loving every minute of that. But you
know what, Jp, I'm a little nervous about this game.
Speaker 3 (41:38):
Are you really?
Speaker 6 (41:39):
I am?
Speaker 1 (41:39):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (41:40):
Wow, I'm not gonna lie.
Speaker 3 (41:41):
Seahawks three and two, Jaguars four and one.
Speaker 6 (41:43):
Well, look, okay, short week number one. Okay, can you
handle the success of Monday Nights victory?
Speaker 4 (41:52):
There's a I've seen the Jaguars everywhere on television everywhere,
and there's a lot of pats.
Speaker 6 (41:56):
On the day. Hey man, that's awesome. You guys are awesome.
Great win.
Speaker 3 (42:00):
I want to win. Traveling great, you're there, you know,
and I hear this.
Speaker 6 (42:04):
Okay, they're not happy with just the win. They didn't
play well. Okay, Well, I got a Seattle team traveling
to the East coast, you know, and you got an
impending trip to London next week. You know, there's a
lot of things that that could distract this football team.
And uh, you know, look, the NFL is not an
easy game to win, as we know. So I'm a
(42:27):
little nervous, JP, I'm not gonna lie.
Speaker 3 (42:29):
What would it take for you to not be nervous anymore?
Speaker 4 (42:33):
I don't think they're What if they scored twenty one
in the first quarter, Yeah, that would probably probably help, Yeah,
smooth it out a little bit.
Speaker 6 (42:39):
Yeah, you know, and and you know the offense is
still kind of a work.
Speaker 4 (42:43):
In progress, right, you know, when is that gonna go?
Their quarterback? Is that seventy three percent completion rate?
Speaker 6 (42:50):
You know, they've got a really good corner. You know,
who's gonna play? Where Tyson Campbell was at this week? Brown?
Speaker 8 (42:56):
Maybe?
Speaker 3 (42:58):
You know, is neose gonna be ready? There?
Speaker 4 (43:00):
There's a lot of thing there's a lot of things
that would propel me to come to EverBank to watch
this game this week.
Speaker 6 (43:07):
I'm excited about it.
Speaker 3 (43:08):
This is top tier NFL football, is what it is.
Speaker 6 (43:11):
An opportunity for this team to be five and one,
which has not happened since nineteen ninety nine.
Speaker 3 (43:17):
I was a senior in high school.
Speaker 6 (43:19):
You are a young man. Yes, I still am a
young man, and I had just gotten done playing, but
I was doing radio for the Jaguars and TV at
that time for the team. So yeah, that's cool stuff.
Speaker 4 (43:30):
Yeah, all right, so that's coming up. Tickets available Jaguars
dot com. Slash tickets are called nine oh four six
three three two thousand. Also the Crucial Catch game, there
will be a lot of pregame and endgame activities and activations.
I know the Tom Cofflin j fun will be heavily involved.

(43:50):
and I'm sure Coach Kaffin will be around and all
that happens. And of course it's closer to home to
the Josh Heines Allen family after what they've gone through
this year as well.
Speaker 3 (43:58):
So always a special day at the bank and look
forward to that on Sunday.
Speaker 6 (44:02):
And don't forget about tailgate with Tony and Fred.
Speaker 3 (44:06):
Yes that's right, more Fred than Tony, but they'll both
be there.
Speaker 4 (44:09):

check that out for the tailgate on Sunday. Jeff Floggerman,
