Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Jaggs HQ, presented by Fresh from Florida, JP
Shadrick and former Jaguar Jeff Logoman sit down each week
with the decision makers of your Jacksonville Jaguars.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
We're gonna bring you a product that you all can
be proud of with that game on.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Jags HQ, presented by Fresh from Florida, starts right now.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
Welcome in. It is jags XQ presented by Fresh from
Florida from the Hyundai Studios at the Miller Electric Center.
We are on the Jaguars Radio Network, presented by the
University of Florida, number one university in the US News
and World Reports, number one state for education. JP Shadrick,
Jeff Logman, the Chargers in the Jaguars Week eleven. It's
delivered by CSX and EVP. Tony Boselli joins us in studio.

(00:50):
GM's right behind me here, Oh here he comes, Hey, goodt.

Speaker 4 (00:53):
I got our questions for him.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
James Gladstone is here, General landon.

Speaker 4 (00:57):
Questions being JP. We're just having a conversation James about
practice squad and can you protect players because you guys
had transaction where Colin Sunders was released Branson Combs was
elevated off of the practice squad to the active roster,
and was were you out of elevations opportunities with Branson

(01:20):
Combs at this point?

Speaker 2 (01:21):
You know what we So each player is allotted three
different standard elevations from the practice squad before you're forced
to move them up to the fifty three man Act
one roster if you want them active for a fourth time.
So Branson had been elevated two times prior to this

(01:41):
week one left. Yeah, but what you end up doing
in those instances is guys go have an opportunity to
not only perform for their team, but also showcase their
skill set for the other thirty one teams to consider
coaching them off of your practice squad, which leads to
my next by signing them to their active roster.

Speaker 4 (02:02):
Okay, so can you protect guys on your practice squad
from other teams poaching them and signing them to their
active roster.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
There's no protection mechanism. What you would be forced to
do in that situation is make a decision on whether
or not you say, hey, you're more than welcome to
remain on.

Speaker 4 (02:22):
Our practice squad.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
You can pursue the opportunity that you may have elsewhere,
or hey, you know what, we would actually like to
sign you to our fifty three rand roster knowing that
you have that opportunity.

Speaker 4 (02:33):
Because the difference I mean, I brought this up to JP.
You can't protect guys because that's money, right, you know,
I mean the difference of a guy on a practice
squad he makes what ballpark. Give people an idea it made.
It's different twenty thousand a week versus the NFL minimum,
which is what.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
Quite a bit higher, a lot higher.

Speaker 4 (02:52):
Yeah, triple that triple that is sixty grand a week.
It's a lot of money, you know. So that's what
I'm saying that you can't You can't keep a guy
from making money, you know.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
I mean some players will opt, based off of situation dynamics,
personal life, to remain in the situation that they're in
because it's what they know as opposed to entering the unknown.

Speaker 4 (03:14):
Right.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
So there are some times where guys will say, I
appreciate you guys considering me for a proach, but I'm
gonna go ahead and remain here because I see a
vision for the future, or I like the system better
than the system might be entering all those different types.

Speaker 4 (03:29):
Of things, and then I El's got to have had
an impact on that, because I mean, I mean nowadays,
some guys that might be on a practice squad got
a little a little bit of cash, you know, where
some guys that came to the league, you and Tony's
yer ain't got no cash, no cash coming in from
college other than maybe some debt. And you know, of
course at Clemson, guys that went to Clemson got paid.

Speaker 5 (03:50):
Back in the day pre n il earlier.

Speaker 4 (03:53):
It was a secret out.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
Of McDonald's bags.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
Wow, I will say this, Branson combs more than deserving
of a place of the fifty three man roster. Obviously
elevated twice so far this season from our practice squad,
had a really stable sound, performing throughout training camp in
the preseason, really impactful two games on special teams. For

(04:17):
see a future for him, and didn't want to didn't
want to break from that, you know, wanted to maintain
the course and see that through. He is a meaningful
piece to the puzzle and the larger scheme of things,
and so I wanted to make sure that we kept
a good thing going.

Speaker 5 (04:32):
All right.

Speaker 3 (04:32):
Jaguars Chargers this week how was the vibe in the
building coming out of that Texans game? Obviously had to
be a tough Monday around here, certainly, Jimmy, what do
you think that.

Speaker 5 (04:45):
That's a great question, that's the dumbest question you've ever asked.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
Now here's the thing that wow, I'll label that is
you can I'm joking. Look, we're we're all humans, right,
So you're gonna you're gonna feel some type of way
about having started the game the way that we wanted
to right. We wanted to make sure that we were
felt right from the jump and we're able to see

(05:08):
that come to fruition. As a part of that, we
let it slip in the fourth quarter and that's painful
to sit with. But we can't let it beat us twice.
And you know, that's been a theme as a part
of this week's work, as a part of the return
to office next day, is this is not a game
that will beat us twice. We got to move forward.
We got to continue to find ways for growth and

(05:31):
different modes of earning an edge because we lost our
edge in the fourth quarter. And you know, got to
give the Houston Texans a lot of credit for their
their fight their will because that's not easy to do
what they did, and you know, it's it's certainly something
that's challenging to palate. But we got to move forward
and that's what we're looking to do.

Speaker 5 (05:49):
Yeah, and I think confident that will happen. I mean,
it's stings, so all joking aside. I mean, it's miserable
to lose any game, but giving up a lead like
we had, but it's not you know, you go back
to early season in Cincinnati is a game we controlled
the entire game and we're only down for what twenty seconds?
Twenty nine seconds in the entire game. Felt like we

(06:09):
gave one away there as well. The response coming back
out of Cincinnati was a really good one. Played the
Texas next week, came out, we're physical and got to win,
and so have a lot of confidence in this group
to respond. I think William's done a great job of
the communication postgame on Monday, expectations, how where we need

(06:31):
to improve, what we can learn from it, and then
washing it starting Wednesday and looking towards the Chargers, because
that's all you can really do. And Liam said in
the team meeting with James, just said, here is a
great way to think about. You don't want to get
beat twice by the same team. And if you hang
on to it, Jeff, you remember this as a player,
you start thinking about what happened the week before on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.

(06:53):
You're not getting ready, you're not focused on the game plan,
your mind's distracted, and you're just not giving your best
performance to prepare for the game coming up.

Speaker 4 (07:02):
Because you can use it as motivation.

Speaker 5 (07:04):
The motivation is fine. The anger, the you know, disappointment,
the wanting to get that bad taste out of your mouth,
those are all positives that you can use. But we
can't do is dwell on the missed opportunity, or dwell
on the mistake, or dwell on man, if we had
just done X, Y or Z, we would have won

(07:25):
the game. Those are fruitless conversations because they don't it's
not going to change what happened this past weekend. We
lost the football game they deserve to win. They played
four quarters, we played three. That's what happens, and we
got to you know, rebound from it. And I got
a lot of confidence in the organization, players, coaches, everyone

(07:46):
involved to be ready to go and play a really
good Los Angeles Chargers team.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
That's fine.

Speaker 4 (07:56):
Times I did it. I did it with the Raiders.
I was like Oakland Raiders. You know, part of you know,
part of the fabric, but part of this past game
is not necessarily what you didn't do, but it's also
part of what they did. Absolutely, I gotta say Danil
Hunter is an exceptional football player. Will Anderson junior exceptional

(08:18):
football player. If those two guys aren't on the field
for the Houston Texans, that doesn't happen. They're great players
playing themself.

Speaker 5 (08:27):
And if you look at the whole defense and what
they did and how they play, they came out from
the start and they played their style football. There's a
reason why they're the number one defense in the league.
Giving up I think fourteen maybe fifteen. Now we scored
twenty nine. You think, man, that's a lot of points.
And then offensively, give them a lot of credit. They
were punching the mouth early. They struggled. It would have

(08:48):
been very easy with Davis Mills backup getting first start
in a long time out a couple offensive linemen to say, hey,
just not our day and give them, give their staff
and give their players on offense a ton of credit
because that's the group that came back. Defense you know,
got stops late when they needed to, but really that
offense did a great job. And it's sometimes all you

(09:09):
can do is tip your hat and say, Okay, you know,
they beat us, and we could sit here and say, man,
if we've done this or that or this, well that's
didn't happen. So now you've got to take that energy,
focus on the Chargers and get ready to have a
good week of practice, which we've had two good, very
good days. Guys are walked in ready to go and

(09:30):
uh and then get ready to play ball on Sunday.

Speaker 4 (09:32):
All right, it's not fun to dwell on the negatives
so much the positive in that game. Parker Washington's just fantastic.
Can can you extend us contract right now? James?

Speaker 2 (09:44):
No, you can't. So there's a you know, a three
year runway before you can have any of those conversations.
So the earliest that we can do that extend the
new new league year kicks off.

Speaker 5 (09:57):
Okay in March, you know the second Yeah, okay, but
he's to your point.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
He is showing us so many positive signs and contributing
in so many different ways and at so many critical moments, right,
He's doing everything that we need from and I think
that's a lot of the message that you know, myself,
Liam Tony wanted to share with anybody that was in

(10:26):
this organization, this football team, to be nothing more than
who they are. And I think that's exactly what Parker's
leaning into. He's not stretching to be more than that,
and it's really paying dividends, right, And when you're not
trying to play some version of hero ball, but just
ball the way, you know, I think it can be
very productive. And I think he's a very clear sign

(10:49):
to that because coming into the season, it's not like
he was a topic of conversation across the wide landscape, right,
But now there's been attrition over the course of the season,
and he's been given an opportunity to shine. He's stepped
in and you know, even when he's not returning punts
for touchdowns, he's gaining good ground on a number of them.

Speaker 5 (11:11):
Right.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
We get two.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
Punts punp return opportunities in that Houston game, both of
which were very effective. Right.

Speaker 4 (11:19):
So the one return, though, you got five guys that
he made miss Oh yeah, he.

Speaker 5 (11:23):
Broke You watched the poor long snapper coming down there,
and I thought he was still going to be an
ir the way. But I'll say this about just add
one thing to Park because I think what our fancy
and the public scene and everyone covering him is see
the production that he's had this year in special teams,
opportunities getting as a wide receiver, and how he's taking

(11:44):
advantage of it. I'll go back to how he moves
in this building all the way back to the off season.
You get here to come work out us old guys,
get here early to work out, call five thirty whatever
time in the morning off season, Park or Washington in
the weight room, work in his body, working on flexibility,

(12:05):
working on you know, hand eye, all the different things.
And that continued throughout the entire offseason. Come into camp.
How he approached camp, taking the extensive playbook that you know,
we put a lot on them. Mentally this offseason took
a huge jump on the mental side from end of

(12:27):
OTAs shows up the training camp ready to go, not
just physically but mentally. And so you've seen a guy
that the output the outcome has been very positive. But
I go back to the process that we take ask
these players to do, but then him doing the extra
work to be a real pro. And I think he's
seen the dividends and it's showing up, and he's a

(12:50):
big part.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
Of what we do what doesn't show up on the
stat sheet. All right, Let's rewind to the Las Vegas
Raiders game.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
Right end a half.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
He ends up up catching a very challenging contested op
that puts us into field goal range that allows then
us to try what would become a historic kick. Fast
forward now to our final drive of the game. Same
thing occurs. It gets called back for a penalty on

(13:21):
the offensive line, but nonetheless put us in an opportunity to,
let's call it, win the game. And so those critical moments,
while again one of those is in on the stat sheet,
are really what can be attention grabbing right. Who is
their best when their best is required? He certainly has
shown that a couple different times now over the course

(13:44):
of the season, and something that, as Tony alluded to,
is by no mistake, he's putting in the necessary time
and effort in order to ensure that when he has
the opt to do so, he sees it come to life.

Speaker 3 (13:56):
Let's return and we'll look forward to the seven in
three LA Chargers coming to the bank. Jags haven't been
at home in forever. It feels like what thirty something
days been awhile, we'll need that fan support this week.
We'll get into the Chargers when we come back. It's
Jags HQ on the Jaguars Radio Network.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
Welcome Back, Jaggs HQ presented by Fresh from Florida. Continues
right now.

Speaker 3 (14:24):
Welcome back. It is Jaggs HQ presented by Fresh from Florida,
JP Shadwick, Jeff Logoman from Undai Studios at the Miller
Electric Center, Tony Vaselli, James Gladstone in with us as well.
Ahead of this Chargers Jaguars matchup delivered by CSX, first
meeting between the teams since the twenty twenty two AFC
Wild Card playoff game. The wild comeback down twenty seven

(14:47):
to nothing, Trevor Lawrence with the three second half touchdown passes,
one right before halftime. It really kind of jumpstarted things
and the Jaguars won on a walk off field goal
in that game.

Speaker 4 (14:57):
It's been a little while, a.

Speaker 3 (14:58):
Few players from both teams still around. That's in the past, though.
We're looking aheading out of this Chargers team's now seven
and three. Justin Herbert is what like the most hit
quarterback in football, But it doesn't seem to face if
number one in completions and attempts, number two in yardage,
number three touchdowns, you can run the football. He's a
total package.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
James, Oh, yeah, this is the sibling rivalry game, right, Yeah,
Patrick versus Justin.

Speaker 3 (15:23):
Patrick's on the practice squad.

Speaker 4 (15:24):
Here's a tight end. And that is Patrick, the younger
brother of Justin Herbert.

Speaker 2 (15:29):
That's right to my knowledge, right, yes, yes.

Speaker 5 (15:32):
He's younger.

Speaker 4 (15:33):
So he's on your practice squad and he's a tight end.

Speaker 2 (15:36):
What's his highway that I don't know off in my head,
I'd be lying if I told you exactly.

Speaker 5 (15:42):
We don't have it here.

Speaker 4 (15:43):
Go to Jaguars dot com. Here in the.

Speaker 5 (15:46):
Sixty three.

Speaker 3 (15:50):
Six, five fifty five.

Speaker 2 (15:52):
I like you got to wait, right, they look identical,
almost like their brothers or something. Yeah, it's it's.

Speaker 4 (16:00):
Interesting, I mean, truly twin shocking.

Speaker 3 (16:06):
But Herbert's got it all man, then the quarterbacks certainly Justin.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
Yeah, he is doing such a phenomenal job leading that
football team. It's a it's a really stable effective operation offensively, defensively,
special teams unit is super solid. I think when you
look around the league, this is the time of year
that everyone has experienced some version of attrition at any

(16:31):
one given position, in particular across the team as a whole. Right,
their offensive line has gone through it. They lost both
tackles and as a part of that.

Speaker 4 (16:39):
And tackles, yes, very really good.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
Right, So you're talking about one of the better players
in the league, and any quarterbacks is going to feel
the pains of that. Justin's overcoming it and he's operating
that offense at a at a high tick and certainly
put them in positions to win football games consistently. And
they're coming through when it's not always clean lost running
backs and lost running backs, and they're an outfit that

(17:03):
wants to run the football. So you know, you got
to give everybody that goes through some high volume of
injury toll a lot of credit. But just about every
team's dealing with it to some degree at different position groups,
et cetera. And you know, I think for them, it's
it's certainly still the same philosophy, regardless of people being

(17:23):
out It is their DNA. They want to run the football.
They do have some guys who are very effective on
critical downs, third downs at receiver and a rookie tight
end who's really come into life. So their passing attack
is no joke. It's you know, there's some guys you
really got to account for.

Speaker 4 (17:40):
That third down guy you're talking about, Keenan Allen's a
big part of that. He's pretty pretty darn good to
still good though, still can play some football.

Speaker 2 (17:47):
There's no doubt getting back on track. You got Lad
mcconkeye who can dice just about anybody.

Speaker 4 (17:52):
Up a football player.

Speaker 2 (17:53):
Now, there's no doubt about. It's a great label to
attached to them.

Speaker 4 (17:56):
Yeah, the question that I have is that you know
they got issues that tackle. The Texans had some issues
that tackle. How do your does your guys, you know,
your two edge guys get better to take advantage of
a situation like this? Can can they raise their level
of play in a in a in an area that

(18:17):
is a little concern for your defense? Now you're near
the bottom and third down production, you're at the bottom
in sacks. How do you get that? I don't want
to say flip it, because flippant would be you know,
going to the top, which is not going to happen,
but how to improve that.

Speaker 5 (18:30):
We can't reach it. We can't catch the Broncos at forty.
I don't think six x in one game.

Speaker 4 (18:35):
I think that's gonna lie.

Speaker 5 (18:36):
I mean, listen, at the end of the day, we
just got to keep on getting better. And I think
there's nobody who wants to get to the quarterback more
than Josh and Traymont, and so they're going to have opportunities.
But then we need to put our guys in positions
maybe you know, there's obviously you can do games different stunts.
You know, obviously if you've watched this blitz at times,

(18:58):
and so I think it's not just those two guys.
And I think so often when you have expectations to
get a bunch of sacks and it's not going, what's
the natural thing to do? Start pressing. And when you
start pressing, what happens? You actually start playing worse, getting
out of what you're supposed to be doing and really
hurting the team. So, Jeff, you know this is a

(19:18):
defensive lineman. Sacks are a combination of both tight coverage,
getting the quarterback to hold the ball, and winning upfront,
and so everything needs to improve at all levels. No
different than if we talk about the other side of
the ball, about Trevor getting sacked last week. We put
a go it's a great front. Is that all the

(19:39):
offensive line's fault. No, it's never just the offensive line.
It's the quarterback with his drops, it's the backs picking protection,
it's receivers winning and running the right depths of routes.
And so it's no different when you talk about sacks. Yeah, obviously, Trayvon, Josh, Eric,
all those guys want to go. It's not like they're
not trying well. We don't want to get into a
situation where they start trying to press do more than

(20:00):
they're being asked to do. And so it's the whole
unit back half that's tighten up the coverage a little bit,
take some chances as Campion has done all year, blits
a Tommy downs, maybe put some more games in there. Whatever.
That looks like they have a game plan, but really
it's just everyone just go do your job and we'll
be fine. Josh and Trayvon did not forget how to

(20:24):
rush the passer. Eric Armistead had a good week last week,
put some pressure on Davis Mills. So you have some
confidence there, and so I think guys just got to
keep on going and take a deep breath, because the
one thing I know is the player. When you start pressing,
bad things tend to happen. You don't get more productive
when you relax. Go trust the call, go trust your technique,

(20:46):
go trust your ability, and just go play. Whether it's
the back half or the front. Think, good things tend
to happen. I think those guys are in the right
mindset and looking forward to seeing them getting after the quarterback.

Speaker 4 (20:57):
Part of the old cous You talk about Russian cover
and obviously goes hand in hand the cover guys. Okay,
Travis Hunter's gone for the year LCL surgery. I think
everybody is aware of that. Jordan Lewis has a neck.
Eric Murray, who is on IR, has a neck. How
are those two guys doing and what's the future outlook

(21:19):
for those two guys?

Speaker 2 (21:20):
Yeah, you know, with Eric being on IR, there's a
certain threshold. He's still got a couple more weeks after
this before he can actually so.

Speaker 4 (21:29):
Too. So he's got two more He's got a miss.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
That's right, in order to get to a place where
we can open up his practice window. Jordan on the
other hand, is at in a position where considered for
this week, likely more the week after. And nonetheless, right,
you think about what they meant to the back half,
right from a veteran presence, from a communications standpoint, mastery

(21:51):
of the system, all those types of things, those are
hard to replicate, hard to replace, and still continuing to
grow within the space without them on the grass and
in particular then Travis as well, who filled a void
on the outside. And so that's some waters that are
being navigated and require you know, next man up mentality

(22:14):
and continuing to try to marry both coverage and rush
together and find the right balance so that we can
strike not only impact on the quarterback behind the line
of scrimmage, but also the turnovers that we know can
generate a lot of good for our football team.

Speaker 5 (22:28):
And you look at that missing those veteran guys. Obviously
you want all your guys out there. We just talked
about the Charges with their two best tackles out part
of the NFL same time, great opportunity for guys. I
think you look at last week, John Jones thrown into action,
big pick early, had some PBu great job, he made
some very impactful plays and he's gonna get better, more reps,

(22:51):
more opportunity, more confidence, get better, and so there's opportunities
Antonio Johnson being asked to play more than he has
in his career, opportunities to start play more down he
So typically you can start giving these guys opportunities. Is
it always gonna be perfect? Is always gonna be cleaned?
We have a bunch to clean up. But at the
same time, those guys are getting more and more confident,

(23:11):
being comfortable in the situation, things they have not been
asked to do in their career before. The more reps
you get, so got a lot of confidence in those guys.
So obviously you always want your frontline guys out there,
the guys that you guys like Eric Murray and Jordan
Lewis because of their experience. But at the same time,
you got guys getting opportunities and looking forward to them

(23:31):
to go make the most of it.

Speaker 3 (23:33):
Let's return, we'll dig into the Chargers defense and what
they have to offer at all levels.

Speaker 5 (23:38):
So let's go.

Speaker 3 (23:39):
It's a lot.

Speaker 5 (23:40):
It's it's a lot your expert opinion, Yeah, okay, thank you.
I'll share that with the head coach.

Speaker 3 (23:45):
And it's it's a lot. It's Jagg's HQ. You're a
lot on Jaguars right now. Welcome back.

Speaker 1 (24:03):
Jags HQ presented by Fresh from Florida continues right now.

Speaker 6 (24:08):
J P.

Speaker 3 (24:08):
Shadwick, Jeff Loglan, James Gladstone, Tony Boselli. It is jags
HQ from the middle of Electric Center in the Hundai Studios.
We are presented by Fresh from Florida on the Jaguars
Radio Network. Taking a final look at the Chargers Jaguars
matchup in Week eleven. Well, we went through the Chargers offense.
Let's take a look at their defense, and they rank
highly in a lot of categories. They are certainly in

(24:30):
the pass rush. I think they're type for fifth in
the league in saxis years to Twoey Polosu, you're a
usc guy. Tony is getting after eight sacks this year,
a bunch of other guys with four or more sacks,
So they kind of spread the wealth defensively. Upfront.

Speaker 2 (24:44):
It feels like, oh they're you know what, their capacity
against the pass game is really high. They do an
effective job. We talk about marrying the rush and coverage.
You mentioned how their sack production is sewing itself well,
a lot of that has to do with the fact
that their coverage is so stable and sound. They do
not give up easy shots, easy looks. Guys are in

(25:08):
the right spots at the right times, at the right depth,
and it makes it hard to compete passes with you know,
timing and and cadence. And so that rush has been
getting off and individual effort has gone a long way
across it. Khalil Mack is still doing his thing and
you know, really earning every bit of what he's getting paid.
And you know, it's not an easy, easy look to

(25:29):
go against. And so the stability across both the front
and the back end with linebackers that can cover, I mean,
it's a it's a tough outfit.

Speaker 4 (25:37):
What does Derwin James do to an offensive coordinator?

Speaker 2 (25:41):
He forces you to get the binoculars out and try
to track where the heck he's lining up, you know,
because he can be in a different spot. Let's call it,
three straight plays, three different looks, and you got to
account for it because he's somebody that's that's a prowler.
He's going to be on the hunt, and you know,
you got to understand what what not to you know,

(26:03):
activate in certain moments because he's going to be somebody
that can impact it greatly.

Speaker 4 (26:09):
He makes plays that are just physically otherworldly at times,
the level of strength and speed that he can play
the game at. And you know, I haven't seen him
a lot recently, but I mean when he first came
into the league, it was like, this guy is different.
And I mean he probably can play safety, nickel linebackers.

Speaker 2 (26:35):
And does he can rush?

Speaker 4 (26:36):
Probably? I mean he's got eighteen and a half career sacks.
Could he play corner?

Speaker 3 (26:41):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (26:41):
You know what?

Speaker 2 (26:42):
So he certainly shows signs of it out of the slot, right,
And you're you're speaking a lot to physical capabilities, and
that jumps out think about what goes into being as
versatile as he is Outside of the physical He is
a smart player that clearly puts in a lot of
time in order to be deployed in the manner that

(27:04):
he is right moved around so frequently those types of players,
they are committed to their craft, and he has certainly
done his part to put himself in this position and
and make it so that he's somebody that offensive coordinators,
play callers have to account for in every play.

Speaker 4 (27:20):
The level of strength that he has on some of
his tackles.

Speaker 5 (27:23):
Oh, he's physical. Now he's a football player. About Lad
McConaughey being the football player. D James is a football player.

Speaker 4 (27:31):
Wasn't Kyle Hamilton's same kind of player with the Ravens
for a little bit different.

Speaker 5 (27:36):
Probably not as physical or strong, but yeah, same versatil
Klin lineup, so similar genre, but probably not as physical.

Speaker 4 (27:46):
Cayle Hampson's got better ball skills.

Speaker 5 (27:51):
James, he's the expert.

Speaker 3 (27:52):
I'll describe the player right exactly. There you go, all right,
Jaguars Chargers at home. Only a game here at the
Bank for a long time, two more weeks away after this.
Every game is certainly important, but here at home, having
that home home field advantage.

Speaker 5 (28:09):
For it's the most important game in the history of
the franchise. It is, yes, it is. Literally, there's not
There's never been a game played more important than this
one in this franchise. Coming up one o'clock, one o'clock
Sunday at the Bank, Be there, be there. It's gonna
be great.

Speaker 3 (28:27):
Listen.

Speaker 5 (28:28):
I'm excited, excited for the guys, excited for the whole
or they excited for our fans. Very confident that this
group of guys, our players are going to come out
ready to play right mindset. It's gonna be a great challenge.
It's gonna be a like I'm not going to say
anthing about the outcome, but I'll tell you this, it's

(28:49):
going to be a game that's going to be tough,
physical because both teams are coached that way. Both teams
are gonna play hard, and I'm looking forward to watching
our guys go.

Speaker 4 (28:57):
I always like when I when you put my game
board together, you know he got the coaches, you know,
for the opposing teams. I always like to kind of
look at the names, just because you always like to
see some of the former guys that played the game.
Two former greats, Mike, excuse me, Nick Hardwick, who played
center for the Chargers for a very long time, was
a really good football player, and not necessarily with the Chargers.

(29:19):
Here Navarro Bowman, who was a really good linebacker for
the forty.

Speaker 5 (29:23):
Nine Ers, is the linebacker coach Haarbar was up in
the Niners. He was one of the part of that
were those great defenses that the Niners had back then.

Speaker 3 (29:33):
Chargers Jaguars, gentlemen, I always appreciate it. Thank you ver much.

Speaker 5 (29:37):
We look forward to it every week. JP. It's our
favorite half hour of the week. Just to you and Jeff.
I mean, wouldn't rather be anywhere else on planning to
Earth right here right now.

Speaker 3 (29:46):
Appreciate that. Yeah, thanks a lot, Tony Vasseli, James Gladstone
joining us in studio each and every Thursday. Plenty ahead.
We're about ten minutes away from Fred Taylor joining us.
And this is JAG's HQ on the Jaguars Radio Network.
Welcome Back.

Speaker 1 (30:03):
Jaggs HQ presented by Fresh from Florida continues right now.

Speaker 3 (30:08):
It is JAG's HQ, and we are on the Jaguars
Radio Network, presented by the University of Florida at number
one university in the US News and World Reports, number
one state for education.

Speaker 1 (30:17):
J P.

Speaker 3 (30:17):
Shadwick with Jeff Logoman our thanks to Tony Muscelli and
James Ladstone, Jacks GM joining us at most every Thursday
here on Jaggs HQ and reaction. I said, well, was
the vibe in the building this week? What do you
think the vibe was in the building this week?

Speaker 4 (30:33):
Was the answer?

Speaker 3 (30:34):
I guess so well.

Speaker 4 (30:35):
I appreciate the honesty because you know, There's been some
in the past that might have oh it was great,
We're outstanding, and to worry lo the reality is is
the reality? Yeah? You know, so I can't expect the
football team feel good after giving up that many points
in the fourth quarter to a division opponent and an
opportunity to send them into never never land, you know,

(30:56):
and an opportunity for you to uh pad your and
get more twice as many wins as losses, and you
lost it.

Speaker 3 (31:06):
But now it's about moving forward, and they've got to
try to move forward with a long injury report here,
logs and.

Speaker 4 (31:14):
Past. This past game had injuries, but then now it
seems to be even greater, which is a challenge. Hopefully
you can get some guys back, but you hope that
you're not rushing guys back like Brenton Strength, because that's
the one guy that you don't want to have setback with,
I think, out of any I mean, you don't want
to set back with anybody, but that's you know, he

(31:36):
had a pretty significant injury to the point where they
put him on IR. When you have a guy that
goes on IR and now all of a sudden he's
coming back from an injury and then to expect him
to have two days of practice essentially because Brady's not
much of a practice and to be back ready to
play again. That's kind of tough to do. So definitely
got something to keep an eye on.

Speaker 3 (31:57):
And four offensive linemen are on the injury report this week,
four stars five.

Speaker 4 (32:04):
Is mckerry on there too, Yeah, he'd been banged up
a little bit. So is Robert Hayten to the scenes,
he's got a grown yeah, growing. And what else we
got Ezra Cleveland and Asra's coming back hopefully week. Maybe
I don't know, we're missing a game.

Speaker 3 (32:18):
It's that time of year.

Speaker 4 (32:19):
It's that time of year. So I guess cole Van
Landon will plug and play wherever he needs to.

Speaker 3 (32:25):
Go again, that's what he does, no doubt about side center.
I actually talked to him in the locker room today
about that's just a mentality. He's got to learn all
five positions every week.

Speaker 4 (32:34):
Value man.

Speaker 3 (32:35):
I mean it's then it was one game where he's
having to learn tight end and you know, and what
he played pretty.

Speaker 4 (32:40):
Well last week, and you know, in a game that
you know, you're not feeling good about a whole lot,
you know, like Jarian I think played pretty well. I
think Cole van Landa played pretty well.

Speaker 3 (32:49):
We've got plenty ahead. Will returned with Fred Taylor, proud
of the Jaguars running back and get his thoughts on
the week that was and the opponent ahead. And this
is Jagg's HQ on Jaguars Radio.

Speaker 1 (33:04):
Welcome Back, Jaggs HQ presented by Fresh from Florida continues
right now.

Speaker 3 (33:10):
Welcome back JP shatterck with you. Jeff Logman back shortly
prior to the Jaguars running back Fred Taylor joins us
each week on Countdown to kick Off leading into each
game on the Jaguars Radio Network. Caught up with it
earlier today. This week, plenty to discuss about quarterback Trevor
Lawrence moving ahead, but also how the Jaguars pass rush
gets jump started.

Speaker 6 (33:29):
So you got your two bookends. You brought in a
big time free agent to shore up the middle. Again,
they play well in spurts, but the consistency isn't there,
you know, and then those moments when they do get sacked.
Shout out to Trey Munn. It's followed up by roughing
the passers. So just playing smarter, they're gonna have to

(33:50):
If they're gonna want to play that good zone defense
from behind, they're gonna have to get pressured, you know.
So it may be the rotation. Addressing the rotation where
everybody's fresh. You know, Josh heinz Allen, he's playing almost
every snap, He's influencing plays. He's playing really well. It's
just that he doesn't have the sacks to show for it.
But the pressure is there, the influence is there. He's

(34:13):
feeding the other guys, helping the other guys make plays.
But they I think the consistency is the bigger concern,
and addressing that by way of rotation, getting some of
those young fresh legs in there at the right moments
can potentially help them turn that around.

Speaker 3 (34:29):
Fred Taylor with us Prid of the Jaguars running back
and now on the other side of the Jaguars offense
against this Chargers defensive group that has some veteran players
on the back end, they've got guys up front that
can get after it. Of course, Khalil Mack all these
guys have multiple sacks up front, so they know how
to get after the passer. So as the Jaguars offense,
what's the approach today is especially if it's Trevor Lawrence.

(34:51):
They've talked this week Fred about him letting it rip,
so to speak, down the stretch. Maybe that's more of
a broad mentality than a game to game thing.

Speaker 4 (35:00):
But what do you make of all this?

Speaker 5 (35:02):
On offense?

Speaker 6 (35:03):
I think the mindset is you want to enter the
game with the thought process of running the ball, establishing
the run. There's so much more efficient and their offense
is a little bit more high power when they're able
to run the ball because they can do so many
things off of the run.

Speaker 5 (35:19):
You got play action.

Speaker 6 (35:20):
Then you also have screen game that you can implement
play action screen which they've shown to work well. You know,
even getting the tight ends back involved. You know, off
those actions, you have some boot actions where the tight
ends can seep out until the cover is late, or
even crossing routes. And these are the things that we

(35:41):
started Jags doing well the first couple of weeks of
the season. And then you take pressure off the offensive
line who has struggled. We could go versus the Texans.
The Neil Hunter took full advantage of the offensive line
and created pressures at the right time that put Houston
in position to come back and win that game. So
if you're running the ball, you're allowing your defense and

(36:03):
opportunity to rest up so you can avoid those moments
that happened a week ago. If you're running the ball,
you're taking pressure off your offensive line. You don't give
guys like Khalil Mack an opportunity to get excited and
get after the quarterback. He isn't as great of a
player as he was when he first came in the league,
but he still has a lot of tank. He a

(36:24):
lot in his tank. He's a savvy vet. And on
the back end, Derwin James, he's their coverage leader. He's
gonna blitch you. Just a great player, potential Hall of
Famer in my opinion, in Derwin, one of their best
players on the team. You want to influence him as
well in the run game because he's going to be active.
So run the ball, create some play action opportunities for yourself.

(36:48):
Get back to the screen game, get the tight ends
involved and Trevor take advantage of the checkdowns, you know,
get it out to the batch early once they're at
their spots. Allow the linebackers to come up and coverage
to want to now defend the checkdown game and after
that play action, have them draw the linebackers in then

(37:09):
throw the ball behind them with the crossing route game
in the past game to the receivers and hopefully they
catch the ball and then that's the formula for success.

Speaker 3 (37:20):
That's Fred Taylor, of course, proud of the Jaguars running
Back to full conversation soon on the Jaguars Podcast Network
and you'll hear it again Sunday on Countdown to kick
Off ahead of the Chargers Jaguars matchup. Jeff Logoman back
when we return. It's Jaggs HQ on the Jaguars Radio Network.

(37:43):
Welcome back, It is Jags HQ presented by Fresh from
Florida JP Shadwick, Jeff Logoman. Glad you're with US Chargers
Jaguars coming up. Well, you'll heard from Fred Taylor there.
Thanks to him each and every Thursday, have a chance
to catch up with him. We run it a lot
on the podcast network and on Countdown a kickoff. But yeah,

(38:05):
running the football is a mentality for the team. Fred
said it. They don't really have to say it because
that's what the Jaguars team needs to be leading with
their running back Travis etn Jr. Well, I think they
need to be that first and foremost because the quarterback
play is not where it needs to be at yet,
and so to help the quarterback make things easier for him.

(38:25):
Strong running game makes it a lot easier for the quarterback.
And give Eat had a lot of credit. He's averaging
I think yards per game is the highest in his career.
He is just a notch blow yards per carry, his
yards per carry best in his career.

Speaker 4 (38:42):
He's doing an exceptional job. And the thing that I
think that has impressed me most about him is the
consistency week in and week out in which he's running
the ball with great authority, and that's been the impressive
part to me. And I think Baseial Tooton, I think
there's still a lot of meat left on the bone
with him for this offense and for him once he's

(39:02):
on the field, and also some I think some creative things.
At some point they may do even more of the
two backs on the field at the same time. The
Wildcat was kind of a little bit of a change
up pace and I got a little bit maybe too
creative a little bit on one play. But that kind
of happens when you do certain things, but give a

(39:23):
lot of credit to him because he is keeping this offense.
I think afloat with the chance in the passing game, though,
it needs to start finding its rhythm. You know, we're
you know, you understand that this is the first year
in the system for Trevor Lawrence. We're getting at the
point now to where you want to start seeing that

(39:44):
comfort and that experience start to pay off.

Speaker 3 (39:48):
I mean, they've told him to let it rip this week.
Head coach Liam Cohen had that conversation with him.

Speaker 4 (39:53):
Well, and he's right. I mean that's and I think
talking with Mark Duffner earlier, the definition of letter rip
means make the right decision, make it quick, and let
it go. You know, it doesn't mean just start throwing
the ball okay and the tight windows that don't exist
just to rip it. I mean, it's not about that.

(40:14):
It's about still being smart with the ball, but recognizing it,
having the confidence that you're seeing what you're believing, and
then not hesitating to make the throw to get Oh,
let me get a micro second of confirmation, because a
lot of times in the NFL, that microsecond of confirmation
that sometimes you feel you need as a quarterback closes

(40:36):
the window and then it closes the opportunity doesn't necessarily
close the window for the ball, but maybe closes the
window in the pocket. And you get sacked because you
didn't say, oh, yeah, there is Pow, it's out, instead
of your like, I think it's there. I think it's there.
Oh my gosh, I'm under pressure. You know you missed
your opportunity. No, it's there, Let it go.

Speaker 3 (40:56):
I love the sound effects Powell. It's like the old Batman.

Speaker 4 (41:00):
That's my John matt in imitation. He's the by the way,
one of the greatest announcers of all time. He made
football must see TV.

Speaker 3 (41:12):
No doubt fans. Tuesday November eighteenth, that's this coming Tuesday,
five to six pm. Head to publics at University Square
that's twenty eight to seventy five University Boulevard. You can
meet bj Green, the second Danny Strigo, the rookie pass
rushers and base shol Tuten rookie running back of the Jaguars.
Jacksonville War members will be there for a special appearance

(41:33):
at publics where shopping is a pleasure. We'll return with
some final thoughts ahead of this Chargers Jaguars matchup. It's
JAG's HQ on Jaguars Radio.

Speaker 1 (41:58):
Welcome BACKHQ presented by Fresh from Florida continues right now.

Speaker 3 (42:04):
Final few moments of Jags HQ Week eleven. The Chargers
Jaguars matchup delivered by CSX. It's a one o'clock kickoff
time at EverBank Stadium, twelve o'clock with countdown to kickoff
on the Jaguars Radio Network this Sunday. Tickets available Jaguars
dot Com Slash tickets are called nine oh four six
three three two thousand. Your only chance to see the

(42:25):
Jaguars in Jacksonville between October twelfth and December seventh. Yeah,
it's been a while since the Jags have been at
the Bank and it might it'll be a few weeks
again before they're back another time. Some backloaded home games
this year, of course, but this is a good chance
come out. Two teams in the playoff race. Chargers currently

(42:46):
the five seed they're chasing Denver and the AFC West
for that division, it's a really tough division, certainly, and
the Jaguar is currently the seventh seed in the AFC
playoff race.

Speaker 4 (42:55):
You better play good defense in that division, do you think?

Speaker 3 (42:58):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (42:59):
Come on Denvers really good now, yeah, and the Chiefs
are getting hot. So well, the Chiefs got Patrick Mahomes.
They do, It's all you need to know about. Then
they got Patrick Mahomes, the best quarterback in the league.
I don't care what the ratings say or the attempts
or the completion percentage. He's the most dangerous quarterback in
the league by far.

Speaker 3 (43:18):
From the Jaguars perspective, when this week, you know, everything's cool.
You know you've got tie breakers against the Chiefs and
the Chargers. At that point, with business still to attend
to a head lost in, it's still not over you.
I mean, if you get your act together after this week,
then you can still handle business.

Speaker 4 (43:34):
It's not over.

Speaker 3 (43:35):
But boy, you need to go try to play better
this week.

Speaker 4 (43:37):
Yeah, I mean, I think the biggest reason is just
you just after a loss like you had in Houston,
you want to get past that and you just want
to move on. Well, the only way that you get
past that and move on is by winning, because if
you don't win, then all of a sudden, then it's well,
the Houston Texans beach twice. Okay, what are you going

(43:58):
to get over? The hangover? The text and Wallace right,
and so you keep talking about that, so you win
against the Chargers. Now it kind of wipes that slate clean,
and now you can move forward because now you're living
in the moment instead of living in the past. Let
it rip, blogs, Hey love, let it rip, but don't

(44:19):
just let it rip willy nilly around, closing your eyes
going none, no, no, no, no, Throw it accurately, man.

Speaker 3 (44:27):
That's Jeff Logoman. I'm JP Shaddercker. Thanks to Tony Bacelli,
James Gladstone, thanks their entire crew as well, Joe Fortunado,
Brent Reever, David Show. Thanks to you for watching and listening.
