Shadrick and former Jaguar Jeff Logoman sit down each week
with the decision makers of your Jacksonville Jaguars.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
We're going to bring you a product that you all
can be prouder with.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
That game on jags HQ presented by Fresh from Florida
starts right now.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Welcome back. It is a Jags HQ presented by Fresh
from Florida from the Hyundai Studios. We're on the Jaguars
Radio Network, presented by the University of Florida, number one
university in the US News and World Reports, number one
state for education. The Colts and the Jaguars coming up
battle of eight and four teams at EverBank Stadium in
week fourteen. Important December Football Ahead. JP Shadrick with Jeff Logoman.
(00:47):
EVP Tony Boselli is in with us as always. Head
coach Liam Cohen joins us in studio. Coach, good afternoon,
Thanks for the time. How are you appreciate it? Guys?
Speaker 4 (00:57):
Thanks for having me on.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Yeah, here we are. It's that December. We've talked about
this before on pregame interviews. The last week or two,
you play after Thanksgiving to make a run after Thanksgiving,
and now we're post Thanksgiving, important December games are here.
How much do you have to kind of motivate and
pump the team a little bit or do you just
(01:19):
roll the ball out there? Does everybody know the stakes here?
Speaker 4 (01:21):
Yeah? I think you know, you have conversations about where
you're at and having meaningful games in November and December.
But you look at the way that our guys came
out in practice today with the right mindset, mentality and energy,
and I think there was a focus level that guys
understand maybe what's that stake without having to go out
and say too many words about it, And that's really
(01:42):
what you wanted to be like. And I think these
guys will be ready to play on Sunday.
Speaker 5 (01:47):
You an NFL films fan, absolutely, you remember Bill Parcells
walking up and down the sideline telling them, Hey, guys,
this is what you lift all them damn weights for
and sweat and practice and all that.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
I mean, this is what it's all about.
Speaker 4 (01:59):
I actually mentioned that the other day. Is you only
get so many opportunities now, right as the season starts
to get longer and longer, and you get deeper and
deeper into it. Playing meaning, true, meaningful games at this
time of year is exactly what you train for, is
exactly what you work for. And you know, I think
these guys are excited about these opportunities, and hey, look,
(02:19):
we go and swing our shot and see what happens.
And as long as we go and play with our
edge and our mindset the way that we play the game,
we can live with the results.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
You've seen a complete game a couple of weeks ago
at Chargers game. That's kind of the blueprint for your team.
How difficult is it to replicate that against this Colts team?
The way they play football, physical on both lines of scrimmage.
Speaker 4 (02:42):
Yeah, I think anytime you go out and compete, you
want it to be you know, of the best, right,
and that is difficult at times to replicate week in
and week out, but ultimately it's the standard that you reach.
And now, okay, that's what we want it to look
like as much as possible. And this team, you know,
Indie presents the challenges that are going to make it
difficult to do that. But that's that's why you play,
(03:03):
That's why you compete, and that's why you go through
this process. So our guys are excited. I think they've
worked at it in Indy. You know, look, they're they're
a good football team, right they've they're good on offense,
defense and special teams. But just like anybody that can
be beat.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
With with your football team.
Speaker 5 (03:20):
Going against Tennessee last week, I thought the great thing
about it was is that every team you played a
division is different, and I thought your team had an
edge about it. You know when I say edge, a
little attitude, you know, can you bring that same attitude
to a colts team at home?
Speaker 3 (03:36):
I think so.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
You know, I think the guys last week went in
there knowing that that was a game where you just
you got to go take care of business. Let's go
take care of business. And yeah, got a little bit
shippy there for a while, like them back and forth.
And so do we, Yeah, you know, so do we.
And so that's kind of the cool part about competing
with this group of guys is you know, the little
(03:59):
bit of mindset at any time, any place, anywhere, let's
go and we have to have that mindset. So this
Sunday is no different. It's a quality opponent that's you know,
on our schedule. That we need to go, try to
take care of business, you know, and to get to
where we want to go.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
So great Up, how.
Speaker 5 (04:17):
Much does the weather forecast kind of affect the planning
of the game. I mean, it's no nobody knows exactly
what it's going to be Sunday at one o'clock. Yeah,
but do you kind of plan accordingly to get ready
for a game if there is a factor involved.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
Yeah, that's definitely something we talked about as a staff
and we'll talk about again in our game management meeting
over the weekend. We've mentioned to the players that, yeah, this,
you know, we could be dealing with some rain, which
we have not dealt with really this year at all
in a in a game. So we had the one
postponement early Game one, but since then we've been really
fortunate that way. And I think our guys understand. They
(04:59):
played in it a little bit last year in India
at home against Indy. Wasn't perfect weather, I think that day,
and our quarterback played pretty darn good.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
You know.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
So I'm excited he threw it well today in the
wet ball drills that we were doing. So anticipate our
guys being prepared for it.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
Head coach Liam Cohen is with us on Jaggs HQ
Week fourteen, Coats Jaguars coming up. Coach, You've got the
number one rushing defense in the National Football League going
up against the number one rusher in the NFL and
Jonathan Taylor. Why has the Jaguars run defense been so
successful this year? And obviously it's a great challenge this
(05:36):
week against Taylor in the way they run it.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
Yeah, I got a lot of respect for Jonathan Taylor
the player. You know what he did in college, throughout
his whole career. I have a lot of respect for him.
So great challenge. As you mentioned, I think that you know,
you get what you emphasize in this league typically right,
And when we did get here as a staff, we
talked about wanting to build a mindset and a mentality
(05:58):
that started with stopping the run and being able to
run the football. And you get what you emphasize, and
we've emphasized that a lot, and our players have taken
that on personally. You're able to stop the run in
multiple different front structures and also be able to do
it at times in too high which really helps you
out with the past game, the play actions, the boots
(06:19):
and things like that. So great challenge this weekend, but
our guys have done a great job and I expect
that to continue.
Speaker 5 (06:27):
And with the success that he's having Daniel Jones, who
might be the best free agent signing in the league,
you could say that, make that case. He's had nine
one hundred plus rated games this year out of twelve.
Speaker 4 (06:40):
Yeah, pretty impressive, very impressive. You can see the amount
of time and work that Daniel put into his footwork
this offseason. His mechanics, his body positions, the way the
ball's coming off his hand is pretty impressive, and he's
putting it in spots where you know only his guys.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Can get it at times.
Speaker 4 (07:01):
And I know he's been dealing with maybe not moving
as great as he was at times this season, but man,
he's playing at a high level and has been all season.
His guys are making plays for him as well. So
huge emphasis for us this week of matching the front
with the coverage in the back end and continuing to
try to impact and affect the pocket in both the
(07:22):
middle push and also on the edge there. So you know,
he's playing at a high level, though we're going to
have to be on it.
Speaker 5 (07:29):
Yeah, when you talk about him not maybe having the
same mobility, watching the film of him the last two weeks,
you could definitely tell, like on his drop back he's
not quite digging that one foot all the way back.
But the crazy thing is he actually has more rush
attempts in the last two weeks than any other two
weeks combined, which doesn't make sense. But the reality is
he used to be a I mean, big time athlete
(07:51):
would take off and man in a minute. He's not
doing that as much, but it seems like his prowess
as a passer is still on the money.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
Oh yeah, I know. I've heard stories about him playing
through injuries, whether it was in college or in the
early parts of his career, and.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
He's a tough dude.
Speaker 4 (08:10):
He's a competitor, and you know that's something that's in you,
and he has that in him, which is impressive. So
he's definitely improved, I think dramatically as a pastor in
terms of just the consistency. He always was extremely talented.
As you mentioned, he could run it a lot. They
did a lot of his own read with him in
New York and him being able to do quarterback design runs.
(08:32):
But you know, they've asked him to be a pastor,
they've asked him to run that offense and operate that
offense at a high level, and he's done.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
That, all right, coach, last one for you here home
game at the Bank December. We've seen what this crowd
can do and do to help this football team earlier
in the season. Gonna need it down the stretch here
starting this Sunday, right absolutely.
Speaker 4 (08:54):
You know, as I've mentioned that, Look, we are constantly
working as an organization, as a football team, you know,
to put a product on the field that our fans
and supporters and organization can be proud of. And so
our players want to play in front of this city,
in front of this crowd, in front of everybody that
can make their way out, because look, every time you
(09:17):
go out there as an entertainer, as a football player,
you're trying to put your best product out there. And
the more home field advantage we can get this weekend
and pump that crowd noise up, that'll be awesome.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
Coach, thanks for the time. We really appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (09:29):
Thanks, guys, appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
Head coach Liam Cohen joining us in the studio. Tony Baseli,
James Gladstone. When we return, we'll look deeper into this
Coach Jaguars matchup in week fourteen. This is Jaggs HQ
on the Jaguars Radio Network.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
Welcome back jags HQ, presented by Fresh from Florida continues
right now.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
It is Jaggs HQ. We are on the Jaguars Radio Network.
JP Shadwick, Jeff Logaman our thanks to you, Wars at
Joch Liam Cohen joining us live in studio, heading back
down the whole Way to continue planning for the Colts
Jaguars matchup, a battle for first place in the AFC
South eight and four Colts eight and four Jaguars, Tony Boselli,
James Gladstone in with us now, Good afternoon, James, how
(10:16):
are you you know what? Life is pretty good? Jack,
to be here, Yeah, I'm glad you're here. And Tony, Hi,
it's good to be here too, Jake. First place Jaguars.
Good to be in first place too, but still football
to be played, a lot.
Speaker 6 (10:28):
Of work to be done, that's right. It doesn't matter
what the standings are right now. It's good to be
where we are. You want to, obviously this time of year,
be in a position where you can kind of control
your own destiny and determine what happens on the field.
And we've earned the right to get to that point.
But that's it, I mean, doesn't matter. You know, you
(10:50):
got the Colts have the same record as US eight
and four Texans, very good football team at seven to five.
It's gonna be the what team plays the best in
December is gonna win the division. That's what that's the
challenge in front of us, and that's what we got
to go do.
Speaker 3 (11:03):
Yeah, but it still makes it damn fun.
Speaker 6 (11:05):
Listen if you said it with coach and anyone who's
played this game, like I.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
Don't care what level.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
If you just played high school, played in college, played.
Speaker 6 (11:15):
In the NFL like we did, playing menifull games at
the end of the season, where you have an opportunity
to go win a championship, win a division, when getting
the playoffs is a.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
High school wheyer, you know, have a great year in the.
Speaker 6 (11:30):
College and the college playoffs in the NFL, win a division,
getting the playoffs, keep playing, That's all you can That's
why you work, that's why you spend the time, that's
why you.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
Play the game.
Speaker 6 (11:39):
These are the These are the times that are fun.
This is the time where you just let it go
and go compete.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
So yeah, there, it's obviously this is fun. This is
why you do it.
Speaker 6 (11:51):
But there's so much football ahead of us, and it
starts this weekend, and we got a tough opponent, a
team that's played great football year and they're coming in
and they're thinking the same thing. Well coached, really good players,
and they're saying, hey, division is for ours to take.
And you got Houston right behind us, and they're saying, hey,
(12:12):
we can go take this thing. So three teams, somebody's
gonna take it.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
It's our job and go do it.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
Gotta be fun for a guy building the roster too.
Speaker 7 (12:22):
Right, Oh, this is an absolute blast. I think it's
been well said over the course of the last few weeks. Right,
nobody remembers a year ago, the standings in week eleven, twelve,
and thirteen. What you do remember is the sensations right
throughout the course of a season. And I can tell
you right now it's going to be an absolute blast
(12:44):
on the stretch. Right, we got one game right in
front of us, and some might say it's the most
important game in franchise history and so I think that's.
Speaker 3 (12:53):
Where clearly guy in particularly some might say.
Speaker 6 (12:57):
I mean, anyone would like to argue with me, I'm
sure you will of many of our fans on Twitter
well or x whatever it's called. This is the most
important game in the history of the franchise. There's never
been a more important one than this right now because
it's the one we get to go play and it's
a December football.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
Man, it's gonna be so much fun.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
Beat it.
Speaker 2 (13:17):
It's what you want to do and can't wait.
Speaker 6 (13:19):
What a great opportunity for in what I what's fun
for me and I think James would agree is everyone
in this organization has done so much work to be
able to have this opportunity, you know, and I mean everybody,
whether the business, supports, staff, are players, our coaches, a
lot of work and now to watch our players and
(13:41):
our coaches that have the opportunity to prepare this week.
Liam talked about it, working the tails off on the
practice field, getting their bodies ready, weight room, training room.
But to watch them to have the opportunity to go
on the field this Sunday and just to go do what.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
They love to do.
Speaker 6 (13:56):
That's what it's That's what it's all about and looking
forward to seeing them go out and and do what
they do.
Speaker 5 (14:01):
I gotta ask a question just for both of you,
and you can kind of go however you want to.
But the guy that was just sitting in the chair, James,
that you're in right now, I mean, what a great
job that he's been able to do this year. I mean,
all three of you guys, to be able to put
this team in position to be in this moment is
truly commendable. And I think the roster management and the
(14:26):
day to day management that a coach goes through and
getting a team to play as he has done is challenging,
and I just feel like that he's got a very
special ability to reach a team and to communicate a team.
Are you guys seeing the same thing?
Speaker 2 (14:43):
Absolutely?
Speaker 7 (14:43):
I think one of the more impressive elements right obviously
Liams in his first year as a head coach. But
if you take a moment to just circle back to
what the first preseason game look like to where we
are now and the ebbs and flows of the lead
up to the kickoff against Carolina, the ebbs and flows
(15:05):
since that first opener against Carolina, how he's been able
to navigate some of the best parts of the season
and some of the worst, and being able to keep
a steady sort of pulse within that locker room, within
the coaching staff, to make sure that the product on
the field continues to be one that our fan base,
(15:27):
our partners can all be proud of, everyone in our
organization can look at at this stage of the season
and be excited about what we have in front of us.
And that's been an earned thing. Right that's been earned,
as Tony said, not only just through Liam, but because
we have a lot of other people who work in
tandem to support him, to support our players, and it
(15:49):
has been really cool to see the different versions of
who we are take shape and present themselves and really
who we are in this current moment. Obviously, we got
a handful of other ops still in front of us
that are guaranteed one that we know is directly in
front of us, but look forward to earn it the
rest of the way and seeing what else continues to
(16:10):
show itself. Knowing that, you know, as Liam alluded to,
against the Chargers, we've seen a standard for what this
needs to look like. Now it's got to be reached
with consistency, because we know it's there, so look forward
to seeing that for sure.
Speaker 6 (16:24):
Yeah, I think the one thing I would add is
and Liam's done an outstanding job leading this organization, leading
the football team, holding the standard we talked about from
day one, James, liamb myself, where we communicate to everyone
in this building.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
There's a standard what it needs to be.
Speaker 6 (16:43):
A Jacksonville Jaguar, and Liam has communicated that, held the line,
but at the same time going through the ebbs and
flows and trying to keep you know, steady hands because
you don't want to get too high too low.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
It's a long season. You've got to play every week.
Speaker 6 (17:00):
Injuries happened, adversity, all those different things that we've talked about,
but at the same time, never being satisfied, never been
getting comfortable with whatever position you're in. And I think
one of the fun things we talk about. Everyone's excited
about December football. Yes, it'd be very easy, and sometimes
you have to remember human natures, start patting yourself on
(17:23):
the back and look what we've accomplished. We've accomplished nothing yet.
And I think one of the things that I think
has shown the leadership of Liam and our coaching staff
and how our players have approached this opportunity is that
hunger of not being satisfied, saying we have yet to
do anything. We've earned the right to have the opportunity
to do something. But standing in our way is a
(17:45):
very good team in the Indianapolis Colts, and so let's
not get satisfied, Let's not get comfortable. And I think
Liam's leadership in the way he's handled that has been outstanding,
and I give a lot of credit to him, his staff,
and then players the way they've responded. You watch our
players have approached this season and guys.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
Who have.
Speaker 6 (18:06):
Maybe not anyone was thinking about, Hey, this individual is
gonna have to come up and make big plays because
maybe it's a backup, maybe third string, way back in
the roster. We've had practice squad players who've been elevated
making impacts.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
And what that tells me this is a team full of.
Speaker 6 (18:22):
Players that are working, week in and week out, whatever
their role is at that moment, to be their best version.
We talk about it, James has said it multiple times.
We're expecting nothing more than to be the best version
of yourself.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
Be yourself.
Speaker 6 (18:37):
We talks about that a lot with our players and
what we've seen is these guys coming out week in
and week out, and.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
It's the same this week going into this opportunity.
Speaker 6 (18:46):
Guys showing up, working through injuries, working through aches and pains,
and some guys.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
We don't know.
Speaker 6 (18:52):
We'll see what happens when we get the Sunday. Who's available,
but regardless, everyone's going to be ready to go, take
advantage of the opportunity to get on that field, compete
and be who we are in the standard that we
have set what it means to be a Jaguar, and
then whatever the outcome is.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
We can live with that if we approach it that way.
Speaker 3 (19:09):
Let's return and get into some of the matchups this week.
The Colts and the Jaguars Battle of eight and four
teams at ever Bank Stadium, first place on the line
in the AFC South. And this is jags HQ on
Jaguars Radio.
Speaker 1 (19:29):
Welcome Back jags HQ, presented by Fresh from Florida, continues
right now.
Speaker 3 (19:34):
Final a few minutes with James Gladstone and Toby was Selly.
It is jags Hqjap Shadwick with Jeff Vlogoman. The Colts
and the Jaguars eight and four Battle at the Banklocks.
Speaker 5 (19:44):
I think everybody you know over the last couple of weeks,
and we talked about Cole Van Lannon last week, but
we really didn't touch on Sean Surrett, the offensive line coach,
and Cole vanland has done an amazing job. And maybe
this week he starts at left tackle with the injury
with Walker Little, But the job that Sean Surrett has done,
and this is for either one of you guys, and
(20:07):
I know we had a health challenge at the beginning
before the season even actually started, But the job that
he's done with that offensive line and all the different
moving pieces, not only handling the different lineups, but the
performance standard at where they are and having the expectations
where they are, I'm impressed.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
You should be impressed. Yeah, you should be.
Speaker 7 (20:29):
I think anybody that watches that group should be because
there's been a lot of moving parts. You know, most
of the times offensive lines they're going to deal with
some attrition. They're not going to stay fully healthy for
the duration of a season, and we've battled our own
versions of that, and Cole Van Lannon's been someone who's
been able to patch it together and keep a level
of consistency across a group of five week to week
(20:51):
without having to be in the exact same place. You know,
as he stepped into left tackle against the Titans, that
meant that he had lined up up at four different
positions over the course of four straight weeks. He is
now one of nine players over the last twenty seasons
to do such a thing, not over that span, but
just in a single season. He did it in four
(21:13):
straight weeks. So obviously that's an impressive tash, Right, It's
not an easy thing to do, and you know, it's
one of the reasons why Patrick McCarry was someone we
were so interested in, Right, he did something very similar
over the course of his tenure with the Baltimore Ravens.
He had played all five spots, not just four. But
it did it across multiple seasons, not what Cole has done,
which is four positions over a single season. And you know,
(21:36):
obviously that requires a ton of preparation, a ton of
work not only from a coach like Sean, but also
the assistant ol coaches and Cole himself putting in the
time to make sure that he's prepared for that, you know,
and I think it's just been a thing of beauty
to watch it all come together, knowing that, you know,
adversity usually builds up some version of callous that can
(22:00):
help you battle through tough times. And Sean obviously went
through his own personal struggles over the course of the
summer in the offseason and bounced back stronger than ever
and has really showed signs of being the purest form
of what an over line coach is. And you know,
I think that group as a whole has really done
a great job of forming chemistry, being willing to evolve
(22:22):
and not be the same just because a lineup coming
into the season was written in let's say, pencil right
and knowing that it's going to have to get erased
and modified over the course of the season and just
roll with the punches. It's been a really cool thing.
And I think Robert Hainsey deserves a ton of credit
as well, because you know, he sort of brings that
(22:43):
whole group together and make sure that everybody's understanding of
what the expectation is and you know, really what the
calls need to be and keeping communication at a premium.
I think that shows itself on a week to week basis,
And you know, just like any of them, he's battling
through his own and things like that, and so for
all of them to do what they're doing is really impressive.
Speaker 5 (23:05):
And Tony, before you chime in here, I want to
also mention and I want to make sure I say
the same. Khali, who is the assistant offensive line coach,
is also a big part of that.
Speaker 6 (23:16):
And Treuvre Mendelssohn, who's also one of the assistants. With
two assistant offensive line coaches, they all three do a
great job. And Sean has done a great job of
leading that room. And I think a lot of times
the personality of a position group takes on kind of
takes a cue from their position, especially that group, and
(23:38):
Sean is the quintessential offensive line coach, tough, gritty, no nonsense,
going to speak the truth. And that group's done a
great job. And I would say this about our the
entire coaching staff. We talk about injuries happen, and I
think one of the things that's happened on this team
when we've had teams, guys have stepped up, and that's
(23:59):
a edit to our players being prepared. We've seen that
offensive line James just talked about talked about the group
of how a little bit of musical chairs. At times,
guys haven't played different positions, different starting five. We've seen
that a number of different position groups. That's also a
credit to our coaching staff of making sure their guys
are prepared so that if somebody does have an injury,
(24:21):
somebody goes down during the week, during the game, whatever
it may be, the next guy's right. So often we
talk about the next man up theory and you think
about the players being ready. That is a heavy load
also on our coaching staff. They take responsibility of being
great teachers, and I think what Liam did when he
put this staff together. He brought a bunch of great teachers,
great communicators together, and it's our success goes a lot
(24:44):
to those guys as well of how they've coached their guys.
Sean's a perfect example of that. Have a ton of
respect being around a lot of different offensive line groups
and coaches throughout my tenure, whether in college in the
professional ranks. He's one of the really good ones. And
he has two great assistants, and and that's a group
that takes a lot of pride too. They understand we
(25:06):
want to run the ball, we want to be a
physical team. You only can be a physical team if
that starts with those five.
Speaker 2 (25:13):
Guys up front.
Speaker 6 (25:14):
That's who sets the tone for the entire fifty three
man roster of being physical, being tough, that in our
defensive line, those two groups are the guys that have
to show that they have to put that on on
the grass week in and week out. And those two
groups have shown up in a big way. Obviously, we
want to run the ball, no secret, we want to
(25:34):
stop the run.
Speaker 3 (25:35):
Colts aren't much different.
Speaker 6 (25:37):
They want to run, they want to play some good defense.
And so what a test, What an opportunity to go
on the field on Sunday in that stadium, hopefully in
front of a packed house, and see two teams are
going to give their best shots and throw haymakers at
each other, and we'll see what happens.
Speaker 7 (25:53):
I tried to convince Tony a long time ago that
we needed to prioritize the offense. So har I'm glad
you talked the death of that thing to make it
sure that we didn't feel a fall off when injuries.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
The Curry's finally starting to see it now.
Speaker 6 (26:08):
I've drove up the story many of the times about
in the interview process with Liam when he had me
sold in about first ten minutes because usually these offensive
crews they get in there, they want to talk about
quarterbacks and throwing the ball over the yard and everything,
and no, I don't think.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
So we talked about Trevor. I know my audience.
Speaker 6 (26:26):
We talked about Trevor because we talked about him as
the quarterback, and then he immediately went to the offensive
line and started talking about in detail offensive line play.
Not much different is the gem we hired and going
through the process and the interview processes, Liam and I
were leading that together with James of how he saw
the game and who we wanted to be and how
(26:49):
do you win football games in this league, especially in
December and January. You better have a team that's tough
and physical. You better have a team who can run
the ball, can stop to run, because this time of
year that's how you win. It gets a little cold,
the weather changes, it could be raining on Sunday, nasty weather. Well,
(27:12):
typically a team who could run the ball and stop
to run travels. And that's what we wanted to be.
And you gotta have a good o l And again
I go back to you.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
Got a Colts team believes the same thing. You look out.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
They're built.
Speaker 2 (27:23):
They've invested in that offensive line. They've got a really
good offensive line.
Speaker 3 (27:28):
Draft picks, yep.
Speaker 6 (27:29):
They got the best back as far as yards this
year rushing in Jonathan Taylor. They invested in a tight end.
We got two Penn State tight ends going at it
as well. I mean, you talk about two teams that
are trying to see who's gonna be the tough, who's
gonna win in the trenches. And man, as a former
(27:49):
offensive lineman, I'll tell you what, that's the type of
game you kind of get excited about.
Speaker 2 (27:55):
It's gonna be fun, it's gonna.
Speaker 3 (27:57):
Be a great test for us. That a little butter
a little so it should be a packed house here
at the Bank as well.
Speaker 6 (28:03):
Yeah, listen, and I'll just echo what Liam said. Our
fans need to understand how important they are. We talk
about wanting to build a tough, physical team, a team
that no matter where we play, that our opponents win
or lose, are gonna feel us on the grass. There's
just a mentality, no different. We want this stadium, this
(28:26):
home field advantage, to be a place when visiting teams
come to EverBank come to Jacksonville, they realize they know
they're gonna have to deal with our fans.
Speaker 2 (28:34):
They're gonna have to deal with.
Speaker 6 (28:35):
A packed house, they have to deal with crowd, noise,
a crowd, a group of fans getting after it from
the start. And so we need to establish that here.
We have great fans, but we need to make this
stadium one of the most feared stadiums in the NFL.
The only way that can happen is two things. We
got to do our job on the grass and build
the team that's physically tough. We need our fans to
(28:56):
come and bring that presence. Come early, get here at
warm ups. Man, send the message early to that Colts
team coming in that not only they'renna have to deal
with us on the grass, they have to deal with.
Speaker 2 (29:06):
Our fans in the stands.
Speaker 5 (29:07):
And looking forward to uh throwback unis okay the ones
we wore and legends weekend, so great Jaguars will be
in town.
Speaker 6 (29:16):
But a number of guys Jeff practice tomorrow and Saturday,
so they're coming out.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
That'll be fun, be good.
Speaker 5 (29:22):
Yeah, looking forward to that. And then by the way,
we'll see you tonight here on TV. Oh my gosh
as your one more guests man, and the show is
only are you coming to?
Speaker 7 (29:34):
Would have been nice to get the infant.
Speaker 3 (29:37):
Wow forgot it in the mail?
Speaker 5 (29:39):
Got lost? We can we get arrange one real quick.
Here would you like to come on our TV show tonight?
Speaker 3 (29:48):
Some player lists to get to the.
Speaker 6 (29:53):
Big star that is Uh, Jacoby Myers showed me Jacobe
Myers coming and Uh. You talk about a a guy
that knows what it means and hits the standard, what
it means to be a jaguar, how he plays the game,
his professionalism. James did a great job of identifying that
and making that happen for our organization. And he's been great.
Speaker 5 (30:16):
One of the few human beings that when he goes
across the middle his arms actually get longer.
Speaker 3 (30:22):
He's not afraid like inspector Gadget in the middle.
Speaker 6 (30:25):
And I think, Jeff, what you've noticed is true because
he goes and he is full speed, whether it's in
the middle of the field outside and he is going
to go. He has his strong hands. And what also
he does is he is a selfless player. And I'll
say this and the Eggerban has done a great job
with our receivers. I think you saw it last week
(30:47):
also with BT, BT coming back for the first time
in action had been out for a while with that ankle.
Jacobe catches that deep crossers running and BT shows off
his speed in size sprinting past to Kobe and knocking
out the corner to in a film room this week,
you have to get extra ten to fifteen whatever yards
it was. And one of the things we talked about
(31:09):
expectations and Edgar sets it, Liam sets it, our team
sets it, our receivers block and Jacoby from day one
he got here not afraid to put his face in there,
just like the rest of our receivers to help spring
Travis and uh bashall and try and so it's not
just about going across the middle and catching. That shows
(31:32):
the toughness. And obviously job one is receivers, catch the
get open, catch the ball. But we expect these guys
to play physical football as well, and they have. And
for me, he's an offensive line and man, I respect
the heck out of that.
Speaker 3 (31:44):
Jaguars All Access TV to Night seven o'clock, Fox Thirday,
Jakobe Myers and Tony BISSELLI youre gonna watch Tony on
TV tonight.
Speaker 2 (31:50):

Speaker 3 (31:53):

Speaker 7 (31:54):

Speaker 3 (31:57):
It's on TV.
Speaker 2 (31:59):
You know that.
Speaker 3 (32:03):
Guys. Thanks a lot, good luck to you this week.
Speaker 2 (32:05):
Appreciate you, guys.
Speaker 3 (32:05):
Tony Basseli, James Gladstone with us plenty more a hand.
About fifteen minutes, the voice of the Colts, Matt Taylor,
joining us for Behind the Enemy Lines. It's jaggs HQ
on the Jaguars Rate Welcome back.
Speaker 1 (32:19):
Jaggs HQ presented by Fresh from Florida continues right now.
Speaker 3 (32:24):
Jags as Q. We are on the Jaguars Radio Network,
presented by the University of Florida, number one university and
the US News and World Reports number one state for education.
JP Shadwick with Jeff Logoman. All right, thanks to head
coach Liam Cohen, EVP Tony Boselli, General manager James Gladstone.
We got them all tonight on jags HQ LI it
was outstanding, outstanding.
Speaker 5 (32:44):
No, look, I've got a big moment coming up on
the season, and this is a great opportunity for this
football team. But I think Liam said at best that
it's not gonna be the beginning or the end of
our season. I mean, it's just a continuation of where
they're at. But as fans, it's okay to be excited
about big moment, but I think as a team, you've
got to have a measured approach and make sure that
(33:06):
you're focused and dialed in like you are every week.
And so from that aspect, I think it's going to
be a little challenging to make sure that you're not
overly excited about this opportunity in some respect, because if
you get over ramped a lot of times, it takes
you out of your normal preparation to be able to play,
(33:27):
So you don't want.
Speaker 3 (33:28):
To do that. Interested to hear that offensive line talk
as well, I mean, that's been a huge key team
success this year. That's a huge factor.
Speaker 5 (33:36):
And not very many football teams can have all the
different offensive line combinations that this football team has had
and to continue to have success and be who they
are who they want to be. It's not very often
that that happened. So there's a lot of credit that
needs to go around to the players. But I just
wanted to make sure that we mentioned some of those coaches,
(33:58):
because that's the glue. I mean, they set the standard,
they set the tempo, the expectation. They hold players accountable
and learn and teach players how to hold each other accountable.
And I think that's a big deal. Coaching matters. I've
always been a big believer in coaching matters, and I
think the gentleman that we had first on here in
Liame Caln, I think he's doing an outstanding job.
Speaker 3 (34:19):
We're back in a moment. We'll get the Colts perspective
from the inside. The Voice of the Colts, Matt Taylor,
will join us. Why have they run the ball so
effectively this year? And what's going on with Daniel Jones.
We'll get the answers when we come back on jags
HQ on Jaguars Radio.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
Welcome Back jags HQ, presented by Fresh from Florida, continues
right now.
Speaker 3 (34:44):
Jake D. Shatterick with you. Jeff Logman back shortly. The
Colts and the Jaguars coming up Sunday at one o'clock,
Week fourteen, both teams eight and four, first place on
the line and the AFC South. Matt Taylor, the Voice
of the Colts on radio, we caught up early today
and Daniel Jones is playing through a broken fibula, the
Colts quarterback. I asked him, how concerning is the injury
(35:07):
and how has it changed the way they play on offense.
Speaker 8 (35:11):
You know, so far it hasn't played a huge factor.
I think it's it's popped up in subtle areas, and
I think the biggest one is it's his scrambling. I
think he only has you know you go by. I
mentioned that Berlin game right before the bye. In that game,
him scrambling out of the pocket was a big reason
why they won that game. He had six scrambles about
(35:33):
fifty yards rushing. But they faced a third and nineteen
in that game. Excuse me, a third and twenty one.
I beg your pardon. He picked up nineteen yards to
get him in a very favorable fourth and two, which
they went on to convert and then went on to
win the game. In the last two games, he's only
scrambled to combine two times, and there was an instance
last week where the Colts had a fourth and one
(35:55):
at the Texans nine yard line. The second quarter was
kind of kind of a deceptively big part of the game,
with it being that early in the game and the Colts,
instead of putting Daniel Jones under center to run a
quarterback sneak, which he's been very effective doing this year,
they motioned in Tyler Warren and they got they got
kind of cute with it. They motioned them in and
(36:16):
then he dipped under center and took a you know,
tight end sneak if you will. Didn't handle the snap
and it was kind of muffled and the Colts had
to turn it over on down. So you know, there's
a couple of little instances here and there where you know,
his mobility is being called into question. They really haven't
drawn up a ton of design runs for him this year,
(36:37):
which is kind of curious a little bit to me
going into the season because we saw that obviously a
lot last year within the aesthetics of the offense with
Anthony Richardson. Obviously, Richardson's a different animal when it comes
to just overall sheer athleticism than Daniel Jones. But it's
not like Daniel Jones the statue, right, you know, they
really haven't run him a lot, you know, in the
design running games, so that really is not all that different. Say,
(37:00):
just the biggest difference is just him looking to get
outside the pocket, them calling design bootlegs for him to
roll out of the pocket. They really haven't seen a
whole lot of that in the last couple of weeks
since that stibular injury came to light.
Speaker 3 (37:12):
All Right, Matt Taylor, Voice of the Colts, with his
last one here. The last time the Colts won a
road game against the Jaguars was twenty fourteen. It was
Gus Bradley's second year as the Jaguars head coach. There
have been a few head coaches between then and now.
For the Jags has been another story. What is that?
Is that discussed there? I mean, do you like coming
(37:33):
to Jacksonville anymore? What's the feel? Oh?
Speaker 8 (37:36):
It is discussed, And I think the mission this year
within the fan base was to stop talking about two
horrible streaks this year. The first one which was eradicated
was the opening game of the season. The Colts prior
to this year hadn't won a Week one game since
twenty thirteen, which is equally as inexplicable as the Jaguars
(37:59):
dominance over the Colts at EverBank Stadium. Yeah, you mentioned
all the changeover and the different head coaches for the
Jaguars in that time.
Speaker 2 (38:06):
Let's do a.
Speaker 8 (38:07):
Trivia question on how many Colts quarterbacks have lost in
Jacksonville since twenty fourteen.
Speaker 3 (38:13):
Right.
Speaker 8 (38:13):
I don't know if you have a trivia question that's sponsored,
but there you go. I just laid it up on
a tee for you. But it's really, like I said,
it's inexplicable. And you know, as you know, I mean,
some of these losses for the Colts have been to
some sub par Jacksonville teams. I think the biggest common
denominator in these losses for the Colts have been Jacksonville's
(38:34):
ability historically at home to control the line of scrimmage
against the Colts and the Colts turnover margin. I went
back and I looked it up this week just to
refresh myself, but the Colts are minus thirteen in the
turnover margin in these nine consecutive losses to the Jaguars
at EverBank Stadium. So you really don't have to be
a football savant to understand why the Colts have come
(38:56):
up short down there is because they don't take good
care of the football.
Speaker 3 (39:00):
The full conversation with Matt Taylor, the Voice of the
Colts coming soon on the Jaguars Podcast Network. Jeff Logoman
joins us when we return jags HQ on the Jaguars
Radio Network, and.
Speaker 1 (39:13):
Welcome Back Jaggs HQ, presented by Fresh from Florida continues.
Speaker 3 (39:17):
Right now, welcome back. It is Jaggs HQ, and the
season isn't over yet. At Daily's Place, they're going out
with a bang. The Jonas Brothers are coming to Jacksonville
for one unforgettable night of singalong hits and high energy performances.
The last show of the season. Sing along to your favorites,
make memories that will last a lifetime. Tickets going fast
(39:38):
at Dailiesplace dot Com. Slash events are called nine oh
four six three three two thousand, JP Shadwick, Jeff Logoman,
Jaguars HQ continues. Last week was a notable special Teams game,
but not for record field goals or punts inside the five,
but for the attitude they brought and some of the
injuries that popped up on the specialists last week. Of course,
(40:00):
Logan Cook in the mix of a fracas and here
comes a long snapper with a bad back throwing people down,
and that's what happened last week and they're both on
the injury report this week. You talk about your specialists
having a little edge, you mean, I mean, I know
Liam Cole wanted his football team to go to Nashville
with their with their edge, and that might have been,
(40:22):
you know, a little bit fun and entertaining there, right, But.
Speaker 5 (40:24):
Now we know the line for Logan Cook that you
just don't cross tough guy. Well, the funny thing is
is that you know the a lot was said kind
of after that game, and what Logan said and what
la Quinn Allen Junior said just let me go there,
and Logan today in locker room said that that was
all at least his part of it was not accurate.
It's it's look, the reality is is that what's what
(40:46):
happens between the line should stay between the lines, okay,
and then having a player after the game sitting there
kind of tattle tailing on the opponents after the game
the media, It's like, come on, really, you're really doing.
Speaker 3 (41:02):
That like you're a perfect angel and had never said
anything on the field.
Speaker 5 (41:05):
I mean, look, I mean emotions run high. Come on,
I mean, Jeffrey Simmons and then the backup running back
whatever his name was, is kind of a joke. But anyway,
special teams in a game that is going to be
a contested game, which I believe it will be, are
always big, especially when you start talking about weather. And
the Jaguars have been pretty good so far on special
(41:28):
teams this year and to some respects outstanding.
Speaker 3 (41:32):
Now.
Speaker 5 (41:32):
You hope Ross is okay. He's limited participation the last
two days on the injury report. Logan Cook limited participation
as well on the injured report. So looks like they're
going to be okay because they haven't made a roster
move long snapper that would.
Speaker 3 (41:46):
Be the key, so that would be good, you know.
Speaker 5 (41:49):
So you know, I think the Jaguars have an advantage
knocking on wood there, you know, because they've got really
good specialists. They're special teams have been playing really well.
The coverage team on kickoff have been playing really well.
Parker Washington is something to keep an eye on. If
he doesn't do that, what happens. Could Austin Trammell be
elevated because he has always been the backup punt returner
(42:11):
in the past. Hopefully Parker can go. And the Colts
have a kicking situation. They just signed a guy to
their practice squad Blake Groupie, who is a kind of
a three year guy in the NFL with the Norlan
Saints for the most part. He just released Michael Badgley,
who missed three extra points in one field goal for
(42:32):
them this year. Doesn't look like the Groupie is a
super accurate kicker, but it's gonna be an interesting situation,
and so that's always a factor when you start talking
about tight games. Inclement weather, something to keep an eye
on there for this game.
Speaker 3 (42:50):
Pack in a moment, by the way, is this wood
or is this like particle board?
Speaker 2 (42:53):
Just knocked Ye, there's.
Speaker 5 (42:55):
Some kind of wood underneath of this lambinet that qualifies
for me knocking on.
Speaker 3 (43:00):
Just making shits. We're back in the moment. Final thoughts
ahead of the Colts Jaguars match up its Jags HQ
on Jaguars Radio. Final Moments of Jags HQ presented by
Fresh from Florida, JP Shadwick Jeff Logoman. It's Week fourteen.
The eight and four Indianapolis Colts the eight and four
(43:20):
Jacksonville Jaguars one pm kickoff time at EverBank Stadium. We'll
be on the air on the network at twelve noon
with countdown to kickoff. Tickets available Jaguars dot Com, slash
tickets or called nine oz four six three three two thousand.
Be there, b Square, This is the moment to be here.
It's gonna be awesome.
Speaker 5 (43:37):
I think it's gonna be a great atmosphere, it's gonna
be a great game. And looking forward to this football
team being at their best. And I think they can
be at their best, absolutely, but it's not gonna be easy.
I mean, the reality is that the cult for a
good football team too. And you know they're coming here
with the thinking of getting back on track and having
a couple of tough games that they've had in their past.
(44:00):
But if the Jaguars team, I really believe this, if
they're a physical football team like they have been in
every win and then a couple other ones Cincinnati, I
thought they were physical. If you just play that solid game,
you got a great chance.
Speaker 3 (44:16):
