Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to jags HQ presented by Fresh from Florida. JP
Shadrick and former Jaguar Jeff Logoman sit down each week
with the decision makers of your Jacksonville Jaguars.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
We're gonna bring you a product that you all can
be prouder with that game.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
On jags HQ presented by Fresh from Florida starts right now.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Well commented.
Speaker 4 (00:24):
It is jags HQ presented by Fresh from Florida from
the Hyundai Studios. We're on the Jaguars Radio Network, presented
by the University of Florida, number one university in the
US News and World Reports, number one state for education.
JP Shadrick with Jeff Flagman, the Jaguars and the Texans
coming up in week ten in org Stadium, Houston, the
site Jaguars EVP Tony Vasselli joining us in studio now,
(00:48):
after another busy week for the Jags.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
In the front office, Tony, how are you? What's up? Oh?
Speaker 5 (00:54):
Good?
Speaker 6 (00:55):
Doing good?
Speaker 5 (00:56):
Yeah, Philly, look good?
Speaker 7 (00:57):
Do we got a finable offense here? For Gladston being late?
Speaker 6 (01:00):
Oh, he might be busy. I don't know if I'll
be working on stuff. You never know what he's doing.
As a mystery.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
Trade deadline is already passed, so that's not going on
trade anybody because he's just too late for that.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
Oh.
Speaker 4 (01:11):
Here he is, James Gladstone making his way into the studio,
Jaguars general manager.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
Welcome in, James, fresh off a lap.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
Oh here, you had to sprint the last phase and
that I was going to be a little late back.
Speaker 4 (01:24):
It's been a busy week in this Jaguars front office.
Let's begin with the effort and the grit and the
win in Las Vegas with I mean the injury report
going into the game, but then end game.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
Guys are dropping.
Speaker 4 (01:39):
You're bringing guys who were on a practice squad into
the lineup in the fourth quarter and overtime, and it
just showed some resiliency from this football team preach.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
I think that was something that, you know, thinking back
to a lot of our discussions that took place in
preseasons games, what's our response look like when things don't
go perfect?
Speaker 3 (01:56):
You know?
Speaker 2 (01:56):
And I think that was a great reflection of so
many players responding the right way, our coaching staff responding
the right way.
Speaker 8 (02:05):
It did take everybody that.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
Was on the grass to bring that to life, you know, obviously,
on the final play of the game, we had some
errors and luckily we got somebody who stepped up and
was able to make a play I mean without divine
in that situation, I mean floating right.
Speaker 7 (02:23):
Can we can we measure that vertical?
Speaker 2 (02:25):
I mean, I know the hang time was the impressive
peace in that one. He was definitely hovering to oh yeah, levitating.
I mean, it was a phenomenal moment.
Speaker 8 (02:37):
Certainly gave everyone a chance to you know, maybe pause.
Speaker 7 (02:43):
Literally I'm looking at the open guys, God, oh my god,
and all of a sudden, frank, you.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
Know, it's blocked.
Speaker 7 (02:51):
It's blocked.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
I'm like, by whom I had no idea?
Speaker 2 (02:54):
Yeah, no, I think, But so many great moments to
look at in that game as meaningful, impactful in the outcome. Obviously,
to be able to have a point on the board
going into half and having a kick from Cam that
you know, shook a lot of folks for us in
the right way.
Speaker 8 (03:14):
For others, it allowed us.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
Just a little bit of an edge that we needed
going into halftime. And you know, I think that even
the decision to call a time out right when Liam
did early on that drive was really impressive because there
are plenty of people that may have decided otherwise. You know, hey, yes,
stop for a short gain, so let's just take it
to halftime. Right, That's a that's a very smart decision
(03:38):
at that moment.
Speaker 7 (03:39):
Yeah, And I want to point out that the long completion,
I think it was like seventeen eighteen yards to Parker,
the way that he came back to the ball, it's
great play by him. I did in a film room
this week. Was just a savvy, veteran smart play by park.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
That was everything we needed in that moment. You know,
it wasn't perfect in any sense, but guys were out
there making plays. They were above the x's and o's
and so many different instances across the board in all
three phases, and you know, those are the types of
wins that you look back.
Speaker 8 (04:13):
On and you're certainly.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
Glad to be in that column right the left column.
But coming into the season, the emphasis was in one
score games, how do we learn to win and what
are some of the things that we can do in
order to make it so that when our best is required,
were showing up and we're not at the end of
the season looking back saying those were still hurdles for
(04:38):
us to overcome.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
I don't recall.
Speaker 7 (04:41):
In my time in the NFL to where a field
goal seemed to ignite a team. I mean it felt
like that. I mean, would you guys say the same thing.
Speaker 5 (04:52):
Oh, I thought it was a critical, critical moment. I'll
be honest with you.
Speaker 6 (04:58):
I probably wouldn't have called time out if I was
the coach after that short game, probably would have said, hey,
get let's just get into half in regroup. It was
bad first half because nothing was going our way at
the long drive ended, the interception after you know, first
and goal on the one and so nothing positive. That
gives Liam a ton of credit for fighting through the
(05:20):
final whistle of the first half and then just to
have the guts, the ability or a kicker who has
the ability to hit from sixty eight.
Speaker 5 (05:30):
I mean I think that God everyone's used.
Speaker 6 (05:33):
I mean, it felt like being in the stadium from
a very melancholy kind of down thirty or twenty nine
minutes and fifty four seconds to the last six seconds
of like oh my, let's go, like we're ready.
Speaker 5 (05:51):
You could feel it, you could sense it.
Speaker 6 (05:53):
So it was a big, big time kick and it
does take some guts because paying attention to raiders have
a return guy back there, yea, yeah, you have to
have confidence your guy can at least get it through
the end zone, because if not, you now have.
Speaker 3 (06:07):
A bunch of Boselli's covered, a bunch.
Speaker 6 (06:09):
Of chasing down a returner. We've seen many times by
the way JP's lived it with the iron ball.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
Well, the Jags lifted here.
Speaker 6 (06:20):
That's exactly right, and so that's a dangerous play in
the confidence in cam by Liam and Heath especially coordinator
and the whole team, and for him to deliver there,
that's big.
Speaker 7 (06:30):
And the execution of the clock play after the completion
to Parker Washington, the way Parker got up, ran the
ball right back to the official right where it needed
to be, you know, and hands it to Hansey hands
he puts it down. The official literally just touched the balls.
He didn't even move it, And I mean that was
just something.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
And there's no time out, so yet your field goal
unit coming on and you're gonna have to kick right away.
You're gonna have to get lined up, make sure everybody
squared away, because you don't have a time out to
work with in order to make that train this or
everybody's in a little bit of a hurry.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
Excellent play, Tony Poselli, James Gladstone with us on JAG's HQ. Well,
Jacoby Myers was playing on the other side on Sunday
for the Las Vegas Raiders, and three days later he's
in the Jaguars locker room after the trade.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
Two draft picks going to Vegas.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
Fourth and sixth rounder next year to bring in Jacoby Myers,
a guy who was an undrafted player coming out Patriots Raiders.
Seems super consistent catching the football, and now how difficult
is this? And then take us through first the trade itself,
when did it begin, How busy was the deadline for
(07:37):
you this year? And then how'd you come to the
deal with.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
Jacoby?
Speaker 8 (07:41):
Yeah, I think there's a lot there.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
I'll certainly try and work in at your cadence, But
I know, just going back to one of the first elements, right,
the idea of Jacoby going from West coast to East coast,
operating on a totally different internal clock. Right, so he arrives,
let's just give everybody an idea on Wednesday morning.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
Right, okay, red ife flight, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
I should say this Wednesday night, arrives at the facility
Wednesday morning for his physical job. So he gets up
at five am for a physical. That's two am West Coast.
Speaker 6 (08:13):
Time after landing in Jacksonville PM Tuesday night.
Speaker 8 (08:17):
So let's then we got a full work day.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
Okay, So passes the physical, he's into the team meeting,
He's now into position meetings, group meetings, walk through practice
before he ever ends his day. Right, great walkthrough, great practice,
very efficient. But to go through the whirlwind of looking
across and you're wait a minute, I'm actually in a
(08:41):
practice session with the same guy that was covering me
forty eight hours ago in Las Vegas. This is an
odd sensation, right, this is a weird feeling. So not
only are you going through the physical elements, but now
you're going through this some version of a spin right, Yeah,
twilight zone where you're like, what the heck is.
Speaker 7 (09:01):
Going You're not mentioning what what he has to go
through to get out of Vegas to get here. I mean,
you know, throwing something in a suitcase and then leaving behind.
Speaker 8 (09:09):
How much do you actually have with you?
Speaker 5 (09:11):
Yeah, it's it's not plenty two hours after you found.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
Out, Right, it moves fast, There's no doubt about it,
but I can any.
Speaker 7 (09:19):
Service that helps people kind of do that. You know, Hey, NFL,
I got traded.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
You know.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
My stuff operations staff that they go full support mode
and do what they can to make it as seamless
as possible, knowing it's just a it's an imperfect science,
but nonetheless, uh, in the lead up to any any
trade deadline, there are general conversations that happen with every
front office. The conversation specific to Jakobe didn't actually truly
(09:50):
come to life until day after our game and any
sort of movement, offer, discussion, negotiation, all that kind of
stuff happened then to become official until Tuesday about what
was it mid morning or so. I don't know the
exact time, but that was roughly the timeline behind a
(10:10):
lot of that conversation. And I think a big reason
as to why we prioritized Jacoby at this stage was
certainly going through symmetriction at the wide receiver position. As
of right now, Jacoby is someone who certainly has a
specialized skill set in terms of the consistency in which
he catches the ball. We've been having an issue there.
(10:33):
You got to feel like, oh, if there's an opportunity
to address that with somebody who's very gifted in that arena,
why not discuss it, work through it, try to bring
it to life, and so certainly feel good from that
lens beyond it.
Speaker 8 (10:48):
Know through many.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
Avenues what he's like as a human being, what he's
like as a teammate. We've had eb who spent time
with him in Las Vegas. Coach that's right, and so
some of those items helped. Okay, obviously bringing him in
at the midpoint of the season, what's the acclamation period
(11:12):
going to look like? You have intimate knowledgey be on
on what his capacity is mentally, how seamless of a
transition that could be, or what verbage may need to
be bridged.
Speaker 8 (11:24):
In order to accelerate that transition.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
And so you work through a lot of that and
the lead up to make sure that this isn't something
that you feel like gonna take too long before we
actually reap the rewards or impact of And I think
it was pretty clear to see through the first couple
of practices that you know, we probably see a strong
match in terms of system and skill from him as
(11:47):
a as a player. Look forward to seeing that come
to life when the lights are brightest, but certainly through
the first forty eight hours, it feels like it was
a strong decision.
Speaker 7 (11:57):
I would imagine when you trade for a player of
mid season, I mean, intelligence has got to be a
big factor, just because the ability to pick up his
system and hit the ground running. Otherwise you're really not
going to get benefit from that player for how long
it takes. I mean, you know, and prior to the
Raiders game, I actually was watching some of the interviews
(12:19):
on the Raiders website and happened to come across a
couple of the Jacobi Meyer clips where he was being interviewed.
Super intelligent guy, at least he comes off that way
in the interviews that he had super aware and the
way he handled that whole request of wanting to be traded.
I don't know if I've ever seen a player handle
(12:42):
that situation which he's let it be known that he'd
like to be traded. I've never seen a player handle
it as classy as he did in that situation. And
I'm not trying to blow smoke because he's a Jaguar Now.
I'd say the same thing if he was still with
the Raiders. I mean, I was impressed I mean, it
really stuck. Obviously, it's out to me and it stuck
with me just because he impressed me by watching that.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
I think that says a lot about who he is obviously,
you know, to project that to move the way that
he did despite it being a challenging situation, it says
a lot. And I think obviously you see the real
root of humans when you're going through an adverse moment.
We got to see that from Afar in Jacob in particular,
because it wasn't all picture perfect, right and he was
(13:27):
still able to do his thing and move in a
professional manner. We know we're going to go through some
adverse moments here the rest of the season. It's not
going to be picture perfect the rest of the way,
and hopefully he can continue to showcase that and we
feel the benefits.
Speaker 8 (13:42):
Of it all.
Speaker 4 (13:42):
Ruys, let's come back and we'll dig into the Houston Texans.
Let's do that, and the matchup in week ten at
AFC South showed out the most important game in franchise history.
Speaker 3 (13:51):
Because it is the one, it's the next one. It's
pretty important.
Speaker 8 (13:53):
JP.
Speaker 4 (13:54):
It certainly is, and this is Jagg's HQ on the
Jaguars Radio Network.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
Welcome Back.
Speaker 1 (14:08):
Jaggs HQ presented by Fresh from Florida continues right now.
Speaker 4 (14:13):
JP Shatterick with Jeff Logovan joined by Tony Vassellia James
Gladstone from the Hyundai studios of the mill Or Electric Center.
It's Jaggs HQ presented by Fresh from Florida.
Speaker 7 (14:23):
Guess, Jeff, all right before we move on to the Texans,
any other chatter and trade circles you know that interested
you or did you get any phone calls from people saying, hey, uh, James,
can we get this guy maybe for something?
Speaker 5 (14:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (14:38):
You know, there was plenty of chatter.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
Nobody asking in any official way are any of your
other players available? Going down those paths? We shut those
down if they did come up. And I think beyond that,
it was certainly interesting to see the rest of the
the landscape of the league and the trades unfold, especially
we in closer and closer to the buzzer, so to speak.
Speaker 8 (15:03):
A lot of big moves.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
A lot of first round picks, So that was that
was certainly entertaining, especially if you're a fan, But even
just being a part of the day in a real
way was was certainly an energizing moment in time, and uh,
I know it was certainly invigorating just to see that, Hey,
this isn't the league isn't stagnant, right, this isn't a
(15:27):
time in which the league has gone dormant during the
trade deadline, and teams are doing their part to feel
like they're making their team or their organization or setting
making their team better or setting their organization up for
the future, uh, in a real way. And I think
that that offers Uh, you know, a lot of positives
have how how to.
Speaker 7 (15:46):
Black does the league know? I mean, do you do
you have like a like, is there a list of
all GM's phone numbers? You guys can say hey, so
you can get access to all these guys. Or they're
a message board. Hey man, I got this guy. He's available.
Anybody want to come and you know, take a look.
Speaker 8 (16:00):
For wild wile auctions.
Speaker 7 (16:10):
Have a message board for the.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
I mean that certainly would make things a little more efficient,
but you probably build up the rollodex over the course
of let's say, gms who have been in the seat
for quite some time are going to have anybody who's
been in the positions numbers. You end up getting those
contacts over the course of an off season in season
(16:36):
when you're together, so it's it becomes rather easy to
just pick up the phone and have a conversation, Hey,
is there anything you guys are looking for positionally? Is
there anything that you guys are are looking to maybe
shed positionally and then go from there. So it's usually
general and it gets more specific. It's conversations message I
would there's no doubt.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
Imagine the back and forth on those things. No way
to be wild battles.
Speaker 6 (17:02):
I got first, keep on going up like.
Speaker 4 (17:08):
An auction right, Texans Jaguars coming up this Sunday.
Speaker 3 (17:15):
Can you imagine second matchup?
Speaker 4 (17:17):
Jaggs looking to sweep the season series against the Houston Texans,
who have injury issues of their own and namely quarterback
c J. Stroud in the concussion protocol. So Davis Mills
will get the start. He had some starts against this team.
It's been a few years. How different is Davis Mills
than c J. Stroud in terms of skill set?
Speaker 2 (17:39):
Usually you're going to see some version of differentiation between
QB one and QB two. What I do know is
Davis stepped in last week and kept them as a
competitive football team versus a very challenging team in the
Denver Broncos. He came in the same year as Nico Collins,
(18:01):
so they have built up rapport just naturally with time
spent together, even dating back to let's call it that
offseason where rookies are playing with rookies and both of
them are growing, so you know that there's gonna be
something that they can sort of tap into from synergy standpoint,
time on tasks together.
Speaker 8 (18:20):
He's gonna be a little.
Speaker 2 (18:21):
Less mobile than what we saw in CJ, but that
doesn't mean that it stops in the pocket.
Speaker 8 (18:30):
He was able to extend some last week, and.
Speaker 2 (18:33):
I know that there's a point of emphasis from them
to do so as they inch towards a starting situation
for him. So it's certainly got to be something that
we take into consideration. But when it comes to throwing
the football, operating their offense efficiently, I think it was
very vivid that even last week without any preparation, as
QB one in the lead up, he's more than qualified
(18:55):
to put points on the board.
Speaker 6 (18:56):
He started a lot of games and he's won games,
So I mean, this is a guy you gotta you
gotta go play good defense. You know, they they want
to run the ball. That made it clear about that
what he marks their rookies kind of taken over that
top spot of running the ball, and he's done a
great job. Uh and so we really liked coming to
last year's draft, he's I really liked him.
Speaker 5 (19:18):
He's an s C guy, so I know.
Speaker 6 (19:23):
But they and they got they got the best defense
in the NFL right now. Any every statistical measuring, data point,
data point you'd measure, it's they're the best.
Speaker 7 (19:33):
I think Davis mill is the only team he has
a winning record against the Jaguars.
Speaker 5 (19:38):
There you go. So we got to change to one.
Speaker 7 (19:40):
And he's only got five career wins, so I mean
he's gotta be.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
You gotta do something about it.
Speaker 5 (19:45):
Change that.
Speaker 3 (19:45):
Yeah, that'd be nice.
Speaker 4 (19:47):
Devin Lloyd trending the right way to get back on
the lineup, which is good.
Speaker 8 (19:51):
Yeah, that's a fair way to phrase it.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (19:55):
I got to have him back and obviously impactful early
in the season. Have missed his presence lots.
Speaker 7 (19:59):
I I was watching him warm up before the game
in Vegas and I was like, he looks ready to me.
Speaker 2 (20:10):
You were, just like everybody else that saw him yeah,
last week, I would say, you don't want to put
a player into a situation when it's high risk, higher
risk than when they would typically be out on the field.
So that was some version of he looks ready, feels ready.
(20:31):
We got a long season ahead of it, Ockle, so
that is kind of understand that. Yes, definitely the injury
associated with it, and just how they can play the
mind game on you, so to speak, and they can linger.
So let's not put ourselves in a position where that
could be the case. Despite us feeling good about where
(20:52):
he's at and where he's trending, and it was the
same for Tim Patrick. You know, he looked good, he
felt good. We have to be cognizant of the fact
that we got a long season still in front of us,
and we're going to need both of them at full
health coming back so that they're not at higher risk
for reaggravation, which is where they were at ahead of
(21:15):
that game. And so I think both of those guys
are certainly going to put us in a better spot
than when we wore last week having them both in
the fray and certainly looking forward to Devin's energy, he
was able to bring more than just the plays on
the grass.
Speaker 8 (21:30):
He was leading the charge for our.
Speaker 2 (21:34):
Locker room conversations are on field conversations, huddling up the group,
getting things going.
Speaker 8 (21:39):
Before the forty nine ers game.
Speaker 2 (21:40):
I mean he is a spark plug for that defensive unit,
for the team as a whole. And so I know
that the players coach is alike or all jack to
see him back.
Speaker 8 (21:49):
In a helmet.
Speaker 7 (21:50):
Yeah, And I think he also has a big impact
on your pressure package.
Speaker 3 (21:54):
For he's your best blitz of lineback.
Speaker 5 (21:55):
Price you have and understanding, Yeah.
Speaker 7 (21:57):
Super athletic and so when you want to fix it up,
I mean he's a great guy to be able to
send if you want to drop an end of his
own dog or true blitz's right.
Speaker 3 (22:05):
Well, you know he's a guy.
Speaker 6 (22:06):
Well, I think going back to what James said, because
it's always important because I know fans are always wondering, like, hey,
when these days they get back, they want to get back,
And then you see a guy like Devin working out
the way he is, like why is he he playing?
But I think it speaks to the coordination between the
medical staff and we have a great team led by
Jeff Ferguson ferg and Kaplan, and they do a great
(22:26):
job of cordating because the players always want to come back,
and this is why I love about this locker room.
They want to be on the field and so they're
pushing to come back. And this is the coordination between
the medical staff, the player, coaching staff, front office already
working together of keeping the player's health first and foremost
in mind.
Speaker 7 (22:46):
I always want to hold him back as opposed to
having a push guy.
Speaker 6 (22:49):
And then and then long term of what it means
for the individual player and the club. And so these
are guys Tim Patrick and Devin Lloyd.
Speaker 8 (22:57):
Who were fighting, chomping at the time to get back
on the field.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
Began began like in showing.
Speaker 6 (23:03):
In practice in situations like I'm ready to go. And
this is where I really appreciate the leadership of the
Ferg Kaplan coordination with Liam James and myself talking through
this anario, what's best for the player, what's best for
the organization.
Speaker 5 (23:19):
Let's do that.
Speaker 6 (23:19):
Let's not just take a short term version, make a
short term decision that could have an impact of the
player at US as a club long term. And so
I think like how was handled, but at the same
time itching to get Devin back out there and looking
forward to see him out there against the Texans.
Speaker 4 (23:35):
Let's return and dig into this Texans defense and especially
in the trenches, the matchup with the Jaguars offensive line
this week against the Texans defensive front. This is Jags
HQ on Jaguars Radio.
Speaker 1 (23:52):
Welcome back Jaggs HQ presented by Fresh from Florida. Continues
right now.
Speaker 4 (23:58):
Welcome back, JP Shatick, f Logohm, Tony Vasseli, James Gladstone
in the studio with us.
Speaker 3 (24:04):
It's Jaggs HQ.
Speaker 5 (24:06):
All right.
Speaker 7 (24:07):
So a lot of people have been asking me how's
Travis Hunter? So I'll ask you, guys, how's Travis Hunter.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
Yeah, he's progressing well. I know, he's in good spirits
and continuing to assess.
Speaker 8 (24:17):
I think over the.
Speaker 2 (24:18):
Course of the next week or so, we should have
a firm grip on really timetable next steps, etc. But
we're still in that window of time where we're assessing
and making sure that he's put in the best position
to return to who he is as a football player.
Speaker 8 (24:33):
And that's really good.
Speaker 4 (24:35):
All right, There you have it, and now let's look
ahead to the Texans on defense, especially this is where
last game Week three, I mean the physicality in the
trenches was really where this game was won. The Jaguars
in the first half couldn't run the ball eleven rushing
yards and then found a way to run the ball
in the second half. Most of the rushing yards there
(24:56):
ran for the touchdown there about a minute and a
half to go to take the lead and win the game.
And Jags defense had takeaway certainly on the other side,
but the Jags offensive line against this defensive front. For
the Texans, this is where it's one and lost.
Speaker 6 (25:08):
Tony right, Well, it's always one and loss in the trenches.
That's where the game. That's where you got to control
line line of scrimmage. It's where you kind of have
your physical presence be shown. And it's one of the
pillars what we believe, it's one of the pillars which
the Texans believe. They were trying to be the more
physical football team, the tougher physically and mentally football team
(25:30):
on the grass every Sunday, and so that does not change.
We're facing a very good opponent who is a great
defense front to back. They got a strong front seven,
they got two ends that are both Pro Bowl level
top ends and both the running and pass. They got
a good backers, they got two of the best corners
in football. They got an aggressive Nickel and Petrie. I mean,
(25:51):
they got from front to back. They are stacked at
every level. And so for us, we got to just
go out and bs because we're very confident also in
our guys, confident offense line, We're confidence in our backs,
We're confidence in the game plan that hey, we're gonna
go out there, we're gonna be us, We're gonna run
the ball, protect and kind of let the chips fall
with them and see who the more physical team is.
(26:11):
I think the more physical team will win on Sunday.
That's kind of the brand of football that both teams
want to play, and we'll find out who can execute
it better.
Speaker 7 (26:18):
Kind of wild how the last matchup they you guys
come out and then they match up with a five
man front, And I think partly one of the reasons
why they can do that they feel ultra confident because
of the two corners that they have. Because Derek Stingley
junior good player, got a big contract extension. But I
don't know if Kamari last or ain't better.
Speaker 8 (26:39):
Kamari is a true football player.
Speaker 3 (26:41):
He's physical, there's.
Speaker 8 (26:43):
No doubt about it.
Speaker 2 (26:43):
And you know so often corners can can just be
touted for their coverage capacity. But I mean, he fits
the runs as best as anybody at the position. And
you feel his presence, his play, energy, his demeanor, it
jumps out. Got a lot of respect for how he operates,
how he moves, and he's always going to be a
tough task for anybody that's lined up across from him.
(27:04):
But like Tony said, got a lot of confidence in
our group that's walking out onto the field knowing that
we can operate at a high tich and it's gonna
be a fun ball game to observe because everybody's gonna
want to go get.
Speaker 3 (27:14):
It all right.
Speaker 7 (27:15):
Tony will Anderson Junior arguably the best edge player in
the league as far as like run and pass. Who
would you compare him to who a guy that you faced.
Speaker 6 (27:27):
That's a good one. He's probably the body top and
style of like a Michael McCrary. Wants to start with power.
Everything's off the ball, speed to power not He's not
a huge man. He's two hundred and fifty five, yeah,
sixty pounds, so he's not. Well, he's at a big end,
but he plays much more powerful than his than his
(27:50):
body size.
Speaker 3 (27:52):
Plays like he's two eighty.
Speaker 6 (27:53):
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. So if you look at
I think he's listed on the sheet right what.
Speaker 7 (27:57):
Six, yeah, six four two three they listed him.
Speaker 6 (28:02):
Yeah, so he's two fifty, but he plays like two
seventy five to eighty, and he can stack ends, he
can bowl, rush, he's got off the ball, he's able
to get edges, he's a tenacious player, he's a great
he's just a really good football player.
Speaker 7 (28:15):
So he's got to match the guy I was thinking
of just because of how he plays.
Speaker 6 (28:18):
It, and he was actually the same, and he was
the same size, two fifty, got some length to him,
comes downhill speed, the bulls never going to be out
of the play. And you just respect guys like Will
Anderson in his style of play because it's he has
the talent. But I think probably his superpower is probably
his competitive spirit, his toughness more than anything.
Speaker 3 (28:39):
Daniel Hunter and the other side has been at it
for such a long time.
Speaker 6 (28:42):
Just store of an edge player, Uh, maybe a little
bit more refined as the athlete can very slippery, can
get Edges and equally you know, different style player, different
style rusher, but can play both running pass and is
equally dangerous to mess up a game if you let.
Speaker 7 (29:01):
Him one hundred and three and a half career sacks
and his eleventh year, he's amazing. That's like great seven
active guys, one hundred plus sacks.
Speaker 3 (29:10):
He's great player. Hall of Famer, great player, Hall of Fame.
Speaker 4 (29:13):
Numbers Jaguars, Texans, AFC South Battle NRG Stadium, Houston. The
Jags trying to sweep the season series, improve to six
and three, and then then it's onto the next week.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
The Chargers.
Speaker 5 (29:27):
I'm sure who we played.
Speaker 3 (29:28):
We'll get to them next ye you're not even worried
about it.
Speaker 5 (29:30):
I love that most important game in the history of
the franchise this.
Speaker 7 (29:32):
Week, JP, I'm like you, guys, I don't even look
real Chargers.
Speaker 3 (29:38):
Is that right? I'll fill you in later.
Speaker 6 (29:40):
No idea on the skets that we got the Texas Sunday,
one o'clock Eastern, twelve o'clock Central. You're right in Houston,
in Houston, that's where all be.
Speaker 4 (29:49):
So it's twelve o'clock, Tony, Thanks James, thank you very much,
appreciate the insight as always appreciate you game. James Gladstone,

This is Jags HQ and the Jaguars Radio Network.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
And Welcome back Jaggs HQ presented by Fresh from Florida.
Continues right now.
Speaker 4 (30:19):
Jags HQ on the Jaguars Radio Network presented by the
University of Florida number one university and the US News
and World Reports Number one state for Education. JP Shadrick
Jeff Logman are thanks to James Gladstone and Tony BUSSELLI
good breakdown of how the trade went down for Jacobe
Myers Jaguars Now Jaguars receiver was with the Raiders and
(30:40):
kind of came into play once the Jaguars were so
banged up at wide receiver coming out of that game
in Vegas, and they made the deal on Tuesday.
Speaker 7 (30:48):
I think the some of the planets got a kind
of a line for obviously for trades to happen. I
was watching before the game in Vegas that I believe
it was bite. The GM for the Raiders was having
an extended conversation with Tony and James on the field.
But you know, according to them, that conversation didn't even
(31:09):
evolve obviously, Jacob Jacob Myers, because at that time they
didn't realize they're going to have this glaring.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
Need for right.
Speaker 7 (31:19):
Yeah, so so yeah, so I'm glad it happened. I mean,
and look forth in six round picks for what could
be a one year rental can be pricey. But the
Jaguars had I think thirteen picks prior to that trade,
now still have eleven, so you have That's one of
the reasons why you like to have.
Speaker 3 (31:38):
The picks is you can do things like that.
Speaker 4 (31:40):
And you know what, he worked at a place that
said bleep those picks and then later had some picks,
so he's had it both ways.
Speaker 3 (31:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (31:47):
Well, the draft is the lifeblood of every franchise, and
the Rams have been really good at getting value for
those picks, and so you don't want to f them
pick too much, you know what I mean, you gotta
have them for SIU. Sure, they got two third round
pick outstanding pass rushers, right, A couple of years ago,
(32:09):
and so I'm sitting there thinking, Okay, we've got some
third rounders. Don't trade any of them, don't trade the seconds.
Speaker 3 (32:16):
Keep them. Yeah, they'll need those.
Speaker 4 (32:18):
Moving ahead, we're gonna come back in a moment, we'll
dig deeper into the Texans with Mark Vandermere, the voice
of the Texans, joining us to discuss the top defense
in the league and what does it look like without
c J.
Speaker 3 (32:29):
Stroud. It's Jags HQ on Jaguars Radio.
Speaker 1 (32:39):
Welcome Back, Jaggs HQ, presented by Fresh fromk Florida continues
right now.
Speaker 3 (32:45):
Welcome back, it is jags h QJP. Shatwick with you.
Speaker 4 (32:47):
Jeff Logman returns in a few moments. Mark Vandermere, the
voice of the Houston Texans. They have the top defense
in the league with the offenses without quarterback c J.
Stroud this week in concussion protocol. So I asked him
earlier today, what's the Davis Mills experience going to look like?
Speaker 9 (33:04):
Well, this is a Class of twenty one reunion.
Speaker 5 (33:06):
JP.
Speaker 9 (33:07):
You know you got Trevor Lawrence and Davis Mills going
at it now. Mills was a third round pick, of course,
not the fanfare of Trevor Lawrence. But Mills is four
to five and one versus the AFC South in his career,
so there's something. I mean, it's not a great record,
it's not a winning record, but it's a record. And
Mills has twenty five starts in his career. This will
(33:27):
be starting number twenty six, so he's played a lot
of football. When he came into the game last Sunday,
it had been a while.
Speaker 1 (33:33):
You know.
Speaker 9 (33:34):
He played well in the finale against Tennessee last year.
Didn't play the first drive of the game. They just
want to get CJ going in that game, and then
Mills played well the rest of the way pretty well,
And I think that Mills has got a lot going
for him when he's got the full cup of soup,
you know, a full week of practice prep all of it.
He talked about, Yeah, he's mentally ready every week, but
(33:54):
the speed of the game is just something that he's
got to get used to. So he wasn't able to
be at his best against Therocos, So maybe it's a
lot better against the Jaguars. But he's not the only
guy who's baged up, so we'll see how it goes.
Speaker 3 (34:06):
Can they run the football to help him. How's the
offensive line play been and all that.
Speaker 9 (34:11):
Yeah, and Chubb started the week hurt, so you don't
know about him. Woody Mars has been really good for them,
and I like Woody Marks getting more touches. Actually after
that there's a drop off. But Damian Pierce, you know,
we've seen some good things. The best run of his
career is against the Jags, as you know, in twenty
twenty two. So it wasn't a long run, but it
was an angry run. It one angry run of the
(34:31):
year on NFL Network. So you never know how this
is going to go. With the running game. I think
that they'll be committed to try it. It's tough against
the Jaguars, but they have to try it because if
it's just Mills throwing all the time. And I thought
they might have thrown it a little too much down
the stretch against Denver because it was just a slim
margin you were dealing with. They were never down more
(34:52):
than three points in that one in the second half.
So I think that they'll attempt to run the ball
well JP and you know, maybe Damien's got something left,
but what he has a whole lot to offer they
just have to find a way to pave some holes
for him, to make some holes for him with the
guys up front, and they've got injuries there too, so
we'll see how it goes.
Speaker 4 (35:12):
Mark Vandermer, voice of the Houston Texans with us and
a big reason why it could be a low scoring
affair as it.
Speaker 3 (35:19):
Was last time.
Speaker 4 (35:20):
Is this Texans defense ranked number one in the National
Football League.
Speaker 3 (35:23):
How different are they from Week three?
Speaker 9 (35:25):
They've really found their stride and they played good defense
against the Jags. I really feel that way. I know
the final drive it wasn't there. But this Texans offense
has been really challenged and the defense is on the
field a lot. The Texans offense against the Jags the
first meeting, you know, it was turnover city in the
fourth quarter.
Speaker 8 (35:44):
I mean, my gosh.
Speaker 9 (35:45):
You know, if you just hang out to the ball
and kick a field goal or two, you might win
that game as opposed to just coughing it up and
donating it back to the Jaguars.
Speaker 5 (35:52):
And they know that.
Speaker 9 (35:53):
But this defense last week against Denver got off the
field again and again and again and again, and with
the Davis Mills led off defense, they look pretty good.
When CJ first went out in the first half, Mills
was moving the team a little bit, but it was
field goals, not touchdowns. And then in the second half
you had zero for seven and third down a lot
of three and outs. It just didn't work, and it
(36:14):
just felt like a monumental task to get first downs.
So I believe that this is definitely one of the
best defenses in the league. You're right number one points
in yards and this is the deepest end of the
season of Texans offense has ever been this good at scoring,
defense at holding the opponent down, And I believe they'll
be able to do that against virtually anybody, including the
(36:36):
Chiefs when they get there in December. But the question
is can you match them on the offensive side of
the football, And this week with no CJ. Stroud and
possibly no Chubb and Titus Howard and the concussion protocol,
you got a lot of challenges there. But they'll have
to do their best and try to get it going
because if they don't get this one JP, it's three
and six and it's going to be really tough.
Speaker 4 (36:58):
That is Mark vandermir conversation coming up this weekend on
the Jags Podcast Network and cooundown a kickoff Sunday ahead
of Jaguars Texans.
Speaker 3 (37:07):
We'll return with more.
Speaker 4 (37:08):
Jeff Logoban joins us again as jags HQ on the

Speaker 4 (37:32):
Secure spot at Jaguars dot Com Slash Watch Party.
Speaker 9 (37:36):
J P.
Speaker 3 (37:37):
Shadrick, Jeff Logoban as.
Speaker 4 (37:39):
Jags HQ rolls along or thanks to Tony Vesseli and
James Gladstone. Yeah, it's a backup quarterback, but they still
have some familiar names in the skill positions, including Nicocollins
at wide receiver. Thirty three catches, four hundred and fourteen
yards for the season and three touchdown receptions for Collins, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (37:56):
He's kind of off.
Speaker 7 (37:57):
I mean, if you look at pull his career number up,
I mean, he's off definitely pace for what he's been
able to do career numbers wise, But you know, My
biggest concern is that this is a guy that is
an elite wide receiver that if I'm Davis Mills, you know,
in perfect world, the Texas led to run the ball
to keep the Jaguars off balancing and out and then
(38:19):
start chucking the ball twelve because he's that good. And
let's go back to the first matchup. You remember the
double move on Tyson Campbell. Yeah, uh oh oh oh,
and then at the end of the game, you know
he had the he'd lost to fumble. I'm sure that
he would like to make some amends for some of
those plays, but he's a dangerous weapon.
Speaker 4 (38:39):
Back to back thousand yard seasons for him, and not
even with full games slated played. I mean, he played
fifteen games in twenty twenty three twelve hundred almost thirteen
hundred yards, and only twelve games last year just over
one thousand yards and eight touchdowns and seven touchdowns respectively.
Speaker 7 (38:54):
What's his career yards per catch? Fourteen and a half, Okay,
and he's like twelve and a half now, so he's
kind of off of that pace. But he's the guy
that can take the top off of a defense. He
can make the contested catches he's a big body, he
runs well.
Speaker 3 (39:10):
You know, he's the guy. I mean, and obviously the
tight end.
Speaker 7 (39:12):
Schultz and Christian Kirk are kind of I don't know,
they're complimentary players, but Nico Collins is the guy.
Speaker 3 (39:18):
I'll tell you what.
Speaker 4 (39:19):
Christian Kirk was open on that last drive in Week
three and.
Speaker 3 (39:23):
The quarterback just missed him. That would have been a
touchdown probably yeah, it probably was.
Speaker 7 (39:27):
But you know the Christian Kirk, I mean, that was
his first game play this year, was the first matchup
against the Jaguars, and then since then he's been in
and out of the lineup. He missed the Seattle game,
he missed the San Francisco game, all with that hamstring.
And look, even Nico Collins missed the game before the
last with a concussion. So you hope that the chemistry
(39:49):
is not quite there with a backup quarterback in his.
Speaker 3 (39:53):
Receiving core a lot of moving parts. But what do
you do?
Speaker 4 (39:56):
And when you have those question marks a lot? Try
to lead on the run game maybe what I might do.
Speaker 7 (40:01):
Look, they got a veteran guy and Nick Chubb, but
you know the one that you know all the Jaguars
are talking about is Misceli mentioned him what he marks
from mess rookie, you know, seems to be the guy
that's got a little bit more of that juice to him.
But you know, the Jaguars have been pretty good against
the run and that needs to continue in this game
this week.
Speaker 4 (40:21):
Let's come back and we'll get some final thoughts ahead
of this Jaguars Texans matchup in Week ten. This is
Jags HQ on Jaguars Radio.
Speaker 1 (40:34):
Welcome Back Jaggs HQ, presented by Fresh from Florida continues
right now.
Speaker 4 (40:40):
JP, Shadwick, Jeff Logman. It is Jags HQ on the
Jaguars Radio Network. In is Week ten, a Jaguars visit
the Houston Texans, looking for a season series sweep of
the Texans for the first time since twenty seventeen. The
Texans had to head since then from twenty eighteen to
forward twelve and three against the Jaguars. It's all past,
(41:01):
so a lot going on with both these teams right now.
Both teams banged up. Check the injury reports in the
game Status tomorrow for a handful of key players to
the Jaguars who have not been on.
Speaker 3 (41:10):
The practice field yet this week.
Speaker 4 (41:12):
Logs including Brian Thomas Junior, who has not been out there.
Ezra Cleveland, the left guard, hasn't practiced yet this week.
Speaker 3 (41:19):
Jordan Lewis, the corner.
Speaker 4 (41:21):
Hunter, long the tight end, and none of those guys
have practiced at all this week yet.
Speaker 7 (41:25):
And I don't think correct me if I'm wrong. Have
we seen a Jaguar this year missed practice on Wednesday
and Thursday and play in a game?
Speaker 3 (41:36):
I can't remember it, you know, I don't think. I
don't think there's been one. It's usually not the cadence.
It's like out limited.
Speaker 7 (41:42):
You got limited, you know, or out and then limited
limited kind of a thing. So that's not trending for
those players that haven't practiced yet, not trending in the
right direction. So much like the last game, you're gonna
need players to step up and play well and take
advantage of that opportunity that's gonna be presented.
Speaker 3 (42:04):
To them, and then the positive part of it.
Speaker 4 (42:06):
Devin Lloyd has practiced both days full, as has wide
receiver Tim Patrick, though their participation will be big certainly
for this Jaguars team on both sides of the football.
Speaker 3 (42:17):
And now to this Jaguars offense against the.
Speaker 4 (42:19):
Houston defense, the number one group in the NFL on
the defensive side.
Speaker 3 (42:23):
They seen him once. You know it's gonna be a physical.
Speaker 4 (42:25):
Matchup, certainly in the trenches, and you will see what
happens at guard, right who steps in there at guard
if Vezra Cleveland's not there.
Speaker 7 (42:31):
Well, I mean from going back to the last game,
Cole Van Lannon was the first guy in. You know,
he ended up finishing out the game for the Jaguars
and did a very good job. And I give him
a lot of credit Cole Van Lannon, just because he
was acquired in a trade under the previous regime. And
then they try to at guard, it didn't really work.
(42:54):
They moved them to tackle. He was the highest rated
tackle by PFF in the preseason a couple of years ago,
and he's continued to get better to the point where
he's one of the most versatile players. And I think
he's kind of a backup for tackles and then guards,
I mean everywhere except for center. Yeah, and I actually
talked to him a couple of games ago when Monheim
(43:16):
was having a start and Hainsy was out and he
was the backup center. Yeah, you know, I'll take a
few stats I said, can you snap? He goes or
have you ever snapped? He said no, I've never snapped.
But I said, well, do you think you could go?
Speaker 3 (43:29):
I got it. I got it.
Speaker 7 (43:30):
So I'm like, wow, okay as a football player, darn
good football player.
Speaker 3 (43:34):
So you know he's got a great opportunity himself.
Speaker 4 (43:37):
All Right, we'll see what happens with the injury report
and the status tomorrow Jaguars.
Speaker 3 (43:41):
Texans one o'clock Sunday on.
Speaker 4 (43:43):
The network will be on the air with the countdown
to kickoff at noon on the Jaguars Radio Network.
Speaker 3 (43:48):
Logs have a good rest of the week.
Speaker 7 (43:49):
Access tonight Yes with Cam Little Cam Little Big.
Speaker 4 (43:52):
Lay absolutely sixty eight yard field goal, the NFL record
in last week's game in Las Vegas. Thanks our entire crew,
Joe Ganado, Brent Reaver, David Choe, and of course thanks
to James Gladstone Tony Bucelli for joining us in the
first half hour each and every week on Jags HQ
on the Jaguars Radio Network.
