In de zesde aflevering van de podcast Kapper van de Sterren neemt Fred van Leer plaats in de kappersstoel van Siko van Berkel. Terwijl hij geknipt wordt, gaan de twee in gesprek over over zijn jeugd, de donkere periodes in zijn leven en zelfliefde. Zo deelt hij dat hij als kind werd gepest, maar juist de vrijheid vond als hij in Zeeland - waar zijn ouders een vakantiehuisje hadden - zijn gelukkigste momenten beleefde.
Eerder deelde Fred al in een interview met LINDA. al over zijn donkere periodes: "Ik heb eerlijk gezegd nooit gevoeld dat het leven mooi kan zijn. Ik heb altijd hoge pieken en diepe dalen gekend", aldus Fred.
In de podcast is hij openhartig over zijn depressie en hoe dat allemaal terug te leiden is naar zijn jeugd: "Ik ben nooit een blij kind geweest, maar ik heb mijn leven wel leuker gemaakt door het succes dat ik heb gehad. Maar tot wanneer duurt succes? Want op een gegeven moment geloofde ik er zelf niet meer in."
