Speaker 1 (00:00):
And 1 Timothy, the apostle Paul tells Timothy two different
times to fight the good fight of faith. For our
next guest on Kingdom and Culture, Sophia Lore, we learn
exactly that she is a fighter for specifically women's sports.
You're going to learn more about not only what she does,
but the heart that God has given her to continue
(00:22):
to fight for righteousness in our culture. So let's get
in this together as we jump in for kingdom and culture.
I can say that she was a student of mine
(00:42):
when I was her college pastor for a while at
a local university. um uh and so we have her
on today and Sophia's got a cool story. She played soccer.
Uh, but Sophie, I'm gonna let you kind of introduce
who you are, let our high school and college students
and parents, whoever's listening, know who you are. So tell
your story, just go for it. Give us a little
pocket of who you
(01:03):
are.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Yeah, well, thanks for having me on and um born
and raised Californian love it here, beautiful state and um, yeah,
I grew up playing soccer, which led to the desire
and goal to play college soccer, which led me to
Vanguard University and I was actually chatting with my mom
this morning that
I would have never ended up at Vanguard University if
(01:24):
it wasn't for soccer. Like that's what got me there
and God's hand has been faithful through all of that.
And um I'm a daughter of the king, and that
is so I can rejoice in that when things get crazy.
And so I um live in California still. I work
for an organization called California Family Council and our mission
(01:45):
is to advance biblical.
Values across the state of California, from culture, capital to churches,
and just have absolutely fallen in love with standing up
for what the Bible has to say when the world
sometimes goes the opposite. So just working to save California
and bring the truth to California.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
And I didn't even realize I love that culture to
capital as in capitals and the capital of California in particular, uh, to,
to the church. A lot of seasons in there, good alliteration,
good job, way to go. See our college degrees can
help us. What was your major?
in college just for
fun.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
I was actually a business administration major, so interesting because
I kind of use that on the marketing angle of
things I do, but I minored in theology and political
science minors more
Speaker 1 (02:31):
political science, that was my major back in the day. Yeah,
so that's cool. And you mentioned working for California uh
Family council. What's that like? How did you, you graduated
Vanguard in
In Orange County and where we are and uh you
uh then you went and got to be a part,
how did you get to be a part of the
(02:52):
family uh research
council
Speaker 2 (02:54):
it was such a thing. I um.
Grew up at a church that was very um would
always advocate that we need to not just live our
Christian lives Sunday in the church service, but we need
to live it all week long. I mean, we have
stickers at our church doors that say through these doors
you enter the mission and I just like love seeing
that every Sunday and really felt passionate to live out
(03:15):
my faith, not just in a church.
And when I was a senior in high school, I
heard a sermon on the topic of life and my
pastor is actually a survivor of an abortion attempt that
my mom tried to attempt on him and I got
to hear what God has to say about the unborn
and about life and how we're all valued and
(03:37):
Um, knit together in our mother's wombs by 13 yes
and so just that night it was a Wednesday night
sermon and senior of high school and God like I've
never heard God so clear and it was like this
is what you're supposed to do with your life you're
supposed to be an advocate for life. I don't think
I even knew what the term advocate meant. I'm like, OK,
(03:57):
like what does this mean? I wasn't sure. Does this
mean I'm gonna talk on this issue? Does this mean
I'm gonna go work at a pregnancy center? I don't
know am I gonna go be a nurse? I don't
know what this meant.
And um ended up at Vanguard and just God kept
opening up different doors. I ended up interning at Family
Research Council in Washington DC. Oh, you did. How long
(04:17):
were you there? I was there for the summer of 2021. Um,
such a cool thing with that too is the church
I grew up in was very connected.
the Family Research council, so we'd have the president come
speak once a year, the president of Family Research Council
speak once a year at our church, and then um
I was taking one of my polysy classes and my professor,
he emailed me and said, Can you stay later after class?
(04:40):
There's something I want to chat to you about, but
you're not in trouble because I was like, what's this about?
And I stabbed our class and he goes, Have you
heard of the Family Research Council? And I was like, yeah,
like I grew up knowing who they were. My freshman
year I looked to apply to an internship with them,
but it said you had to wait till you were
a junior or senior. And he goes, I just spent
the whole day with the president of organization, you should
apply for their internship. Such a God thing like tell
(05:02):
my professor tell me that for being an organization I
already knew.
So interned there, absolutely fell in love with it. I
had one semester left of college, came back and finished
my semester. I just felt like God was calling me
to stay in California and I went to an event
at my church on a Saturday. My current boss was
there with a booth at California Family Council booth, and
(05:24):
I'd never heard of California Family Council, but I thought, well,
that sounds like Family Research Council, and I looked them
up online, so they did similar things, and I walked
up to the booth and I said, are you hiring?
I just graduated college and he said, yeah, and I
started working a month later.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
So you have not because you asked not Jesus said it,
and you asked and you got what you asked for,
and here you are. Now, um let's talk about that
for a second. You're calling.
Like, OK, you know, in high school, college, people feel
called maybe to the ministry, praise the Lord, that's awesome,
you know, been a pastor for 25 years myself, um, and, uh,
(06:00):
and that's good. That's the classic, you know, called to
preach the gospel, which we all are, let's be honest,
Matthew 28, Jesus makes it clear that we're all to
go into all the world and preach the gospel. But you,
it seems, have a unique calling and you've discovered it
from your senior year when you heard that call to
To that this test through the testimony of your pastor, um,
(06:22):
how do you feel that God has called you to accomplish?
With a few things you've mentioned right now, uh, and
for the next few years and um perhaps leading you,
you know, later on in life. So I love it
too because hopefully high school and college students that are
listening can say, OK, God, God kind of gives you
steps along the way. It's not like all of a
(06:43):
sudden you're gonna know what you're doing with your life,
but here you are, and I just want to throw
this out there because you know Proverbs says let another's
lips praise you. So I'm gonna give some shout outs
for you.
You've been on Fox News twice now. Just last night
you were on Fox News from when we were recording
this podcast, whenever you listen to this, and uh, and
one does not just get asked to go on a
(07:04):
nationally syndicated news channel because, oh, let's just pick her.
How'd you get there other than that you were doing
this other stuff. So yeah, tie that into calling. I
hope somewhere in there you heard a question.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
So
Speaker 1 (07:16):
go for it.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
Yeah, I think um.
Like you said, as Christians we're all supposed to be
sharing the gospel, and I think it's what platform are
we gonna do that whether it's we're doing that in
our own homes, whether you're doing that if you're a
plumber and you're leaving Bible verses on your card with
everyone after you fix their toilets like we have a
way to do this in any career in any form and.
I have always loved public speaking. Like my parents joke
(07:41):
I came out of the womb talking and never stopped,
so I, um, I've always enjoyed it. Like I gave
my eighth grade graduation speech. I gave my high school
graduation speech any time to do public speaking. I was
like sign me up. I'm in.
And I would joke when I was little, I want
a TV show like Eleanor Oprah where you can just
talk for a living, but also recognizing that that's really
(08:02):
not a real career yet here you are. And so it's,
it was funny because you know you get to senior
year of high school and everyone's like, where are you
gonna go to college? What are you gonna study? What
do you want to do with your life? And me,
I feel like when I was younger I was really
always trying to be on top and making plans and
all this and it was the first time where I thought.
I don't know. I'm probably going to go get a
business degree because that's a safe degree to have not
(08:25):
sure and was like, I love public speaking, but again,
that's not a real job and watched God tie it
all together that night when he called me to be
an advocate for life and for biblical issues.
It kind of clicked where this is why God's given
me the love for public speaking and now I get
to use something I love to advance his kingdom, to
(08:46):
advance the truth and just again being able to do that,
I then start working for California Family Council. My first
week working for them, I was asked to speak at
a press conference on the steps of the state Capitol
and I'm like what is going on.
And God has just been so faithful through that and
it's led to being able to be on Fox News
and being able to do different interviews and every time,
(09:09):
even last night on my way home, just like listening
to worship music from my drive from LA to Orange
County and just in awe of what God will do
when you say yes and how he opens the right
doors and closes the right doors.
Speaker 1 (09:21):
Yeah wow. Come on, this is cool and and everybody
has their own journey to walk, uh.
I guess in there we have to be faithful. I
love that you mentioned when you were a little girl,
you came, you came out of your mother's womb talking and,
and you're like, I want whatever I can do to
talk and, and but the Lord put that in you, uh,
and there's something to that and even maybe to say
(09:44):
as God has designed us from in our mother's womb.
And, and as he allows us, it's not to say
that everything we experience is from God, but God gives
us those pockets through our lives that kind of give
us a glimpse of what's coming, prophetically speaking, if I
could be so bold. It sounds like the Lord was
faithful in that with you. I love that you mentioned,
you know, translating from the church into the culture that
(10:07):
you as you walk out the doors, you are now
entering the mission field.
And the Lord is allowing you to, can I say this,
be a cultural missionary?
Speaker 2 (10:15):
Yeah, I mean, yeah, with what's happening here, absolutely.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
Most people don't want to do what you're doing because
there's there as with as many people on your side
that are like got your back, there's probably 10 more
that are like, we're going to stab her in the
back type thing where
I imagine it's not an easy job that you have, like,
maybe some person might go, oh, talking for the Lord
on national television sounds great. Do you get hate mail?
Speaker 2 (10:42):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (10:43):
That's not in the original question, but I'm just like,
let's go for
it.
Speaker 2 (10:46):
But again, something God was so faithful and that first
night where I was like at church, God called me
to do this. I thought, how fun. I know what
I want to do with my life. texted my group
of 10 little high school girls, half of them are Christian,
and said, Guys, I'm going to be an advocate for
life and I thought I was gonna get like a
good response. I was stoked like and
(11:07):
And immediate backlash. I mean my very own friends who
knew me and knew me personally and knew who I
was immediately said you need to not do that. You're
gonna push people away from Christ. Why are you talking
about this? You shouldn't even be talking about this in
the text that has non-believers in it and just shut
me down and I remember texting my mom, it's like
(11:28):
2 in the morning. I said, are you awake? Can
you come to my room?
Because I'm like crying, trying to figure this out, and
she came to my room and like
Speaker 1 (11:34):
in your own home, you talk about 2000 text my mom.
She's in the other, you could have got up and
gone to her room but you text so
Speaker 2 (11:41):
I didn't want to like shake her and wake her up.
How
Speaker 1 (11:44):
do you
Speaker 2 (11:44):
know
Speaker 1 (11:44):
she's
gonna wake up if you texted her 2 in the morning?
What I mean, what if she's not awake and she
doesn't hear the text, then what are you gonna do?
In the old days we would walk into our parents' room.
I'm just sorry, just throwing that out there. But hey, cool,
you text your mom, she hears you must have been
the Lord and she comes to your room.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
Yeah, and we just chatted and I, it was such
a clear, God was so clear to me that night.
I knew no matter what my friends are saying right now,
God's calling is so much louder and I have to,
I have to follow him. I have to follow that
and
Again, that makes it so any of the hate that
I get now and all most of the hates from
random strangers on the internet and things, but it's so
(12:23):
easy to blow off when I'm confident in what I'm
doing and I'm confident because God's given us the truth
and the word and the Bible and so
I know as long as I'm doing it for him
and that's my prayer every day, God, I'm doing this
for you. You please equip me with how I need
to be equipped, and the second I make this about myself,
remove it all for me. And that is how I
(12:43):
can push past the hate.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
Come on.
Hate is gonna hate.
Or as Yoda says, gonna hate haters are. I won't
do the voice because it wouldn't translate well on podcasts maybe,
but one day maybe I'll repeat it if if one
day is this podcast goes on and people like Pat,
do the do the voice, but not right now. I'm
not there yet. OK, uh, next question. So you you
(13:07):
got called to be a cultural missionary, you know, going
and standing on the word of God on the front
lines within the political realm, um.
Uh
Without getting too political, which in this day and age
is near impossible with any topic, um, what righteous cause
(13:28):
has God called you to right now? Uh, obviously standing
up for life, love that, but to fight the good
fight of faith with today.
Uh, you know, you got asked to go on Fox News,
but what is your righteous, would you say in this
season is a righteous cause God has given you like
an Esther, you know, to intercede for your people, uh,
(13:49):
like a Deborah to go fight the battle that others
are not willing to fight.
What righteous cause has God given you
right now?
Speaker 2 (13:56):
Yeah, to definitely defend biblical femininity. I mean, we're watching
the erasure of womanhood happen and I believe that's because
we know that women are supposed to be in charge
of their household of the children and raising them up
as a man supposed to be off and also financially
taking care of the household. So we're seeing an attack, yes,
working hand in hand together, and we're seeing an attack
(14:18):
on womanhood, what it means to be
Woman. God is very clear. Genesis 1:27, he made us
male or female in his image. So under that attack,
I believe it's to destroy the nuclear family. And so
um my goal is to stand up for womanhood, what
it means to be a woman, woman's rights. When I
say that, I mean women deserve to have fair and
(14:39):
safe places and sports and restrooms and locker rooms and
so really just standing up for again womanhood and um
I think it's a beautiful thing to be a daughter
of Christ and we can't let the world just rip
that
away.
Speaker 1 (14:52):
Well, I have two daughters, so thank you. Thank you for, yeah,
you're a warrior princess.
Like Xena going out there and fighting the fights. I
don't even know you know who Xena is Warrior Princess.
It's an old TV show. I am totally dating myself
right now, but if you look it up on YouTube,
I'm sure there's clips, um, uh, the YouTube generation can
(15:12):
do that now. Now anything can be looked up, uh,
but wow, oh my goodness, Sofia, and these are things
I didn't even fully know when you were at Vanguard
and I was your college pastor.
You played soccer that's cool. So talk about that really briefly.
What was soccer life like for you and and you
miss it and all that good stuff?
Speaker 2 (15:32):
Yes, I, I do miss it. It was um the
best experience of my life to play college soccer to
grow up playing soccer absolutely loved every single part of
it um it brought me some of my best friends
and it also taught me some of the best life lessons.
It taught me a lot of things that I take
on to my career now of having to work with
a lot of different people and a lot of different personalities, um.
(15:53):
And so I do miss it. Um, I wish I
could get one more game with my college team and
one more time in the locker room, but it's definitely
something that when I was younger, my identity was a
soccer player and I was like, I'm a soccer player
and that's what I was doing as I went to
this little small Christian school for elementary and junior high,
(16:14):
and it was kind of known Sofi is the soccer
player and that's where I really found
Identity and
Speaker 1 (16:18):
it's a fun identity
like yeah, you play
Speaker 2 (16:20):
soccer. Absolutely. But I had to eventually compartmentalize that into
a small identity of oh that's my small eye identity,
my big eye identity is the daughter of Christ and
thankfully being at Vanguard and being at a Christian school
and really being taught and constantly just working on the
fact that my identity is not in soccer, um, made
(16:42):
When it ended a whole lot easier knowing that I
didn't have to search for who I was when it
ended and that it was clear and it makes it
easier when you have a bad game or a bad
practice because if your identity is in your sport, then
you have a bad game and all of a sudden
you're not a good person, you're failing and and so
absolutely loved it. Soccer was the best thing ever. I
(17:03):
miss it,
Speaker 1 (17:04):
but position did you play
Speaker 2 (17:05):
center mid.
So all running all over the place.
Speaker 1 (17:09):
I played goalie way back when. They called me the blocker,
which I guess is a good name as a goalie.
If they would have called me the miser, that would
have been a bad title. Yeah, yeah. Well, thank you
for affirming that. I appreciate that. But that's cool that,
you know, and to distinguish that, um.
Uh, 11 of my daughters, uh, our, uh, middle daughter, well,
(17:30):
our middle child, she, she plays volleyball and, uh, yeah,
so I think that's a great distinction to be able
to say, hey, this is what you do, your side hustle,
if you will, but your, your big identity is in
Christ as a daughter of the most high and, and, and,
and yeah, that that that's who God has made you
to be from your mother's womb as we talked about earlier, um, so.
(17:52):
From high school to college, and you kind of touch
on a little bit of this and even post college
as you are in now, how would you encourage high
school and college young women to trust in the Lord?
With his plan for their lives, how, what kind of
encouragement would you give them? Yeah,
Speaker 2 (18:08):
well, we have the Bible's so clear on this. We
see Jeremiah 29:11, for I know the plans I have
for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and
not to harm you, to give you a hope and
a future. And being able to just find peace in
that verse, that doesn't mean everything's going to be easy,
that doesn't mean all the plans are just going to
lay out right in front of you perfectly. But knowing
that whatever God is putting you through or working um
(18:30):
with you through is for a reason and for a purpose.
And so,
Just having to recognize that where we're at in society
and culture, we have a lot of lies being pushed
down our throats, especially high school girls and college girls.
And something I just love about being a Christian is
being a Christian is the one place where we don't
have to search for our identity. God gives it to us.
(18:53):
Every other aspect of the world, you are having to
search for your identity. And so waking up.
Up every day and looking in the mirror as you're
getting ready for school, as you're getting ready to go
to work, whatever it is, and saying thank you God
for allowing me to be the daughter of Christ. Thank you.
And I think when you remind yourself every day, you
are a daughter of Christ, it reminds you that God
(19:14):
has a plan for you and God has a purpose
for you. And if you feel like God hasn't revealed
that yet, then pray, ask him to reveal that, ask
him to open that up and ask how he can
use you.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
That's awesome. So for, for those who believe in God
and follow Jesus, uh, I think he gave a great
uh guidepost, if you will.
If we have listeners that maybe they don't have that
kind of clarity, what would you say to, to, to
high school, college students that maybe they're, they're in that
search mode, they're not hating on Jesus, but they're also
(19:45):
not following Jesus.
Um, I'm not asking you to give a gospel altar
call here, although that's cool, but what would you say
to those that are just searching for that identity?
Speaker 2 (19:56):
Yeah, that's, I mean, I see it. I mean, I'm
Gen Z, I see it on social media. I see
it with my friend groups. It really is a search
of who am I, why am I here? What's the
purpose of my life, what's the purpose of the world,
what is going on, and there's so much confusion and
I would encourage those that are listening and are not
sure what to do.
(20:16):
Look to find a local church, go buy a Bible.
You can download the Bible app and just start reading it,
read through the book of Esther, read through different stories
in Jeremiah. I mean, there's so many encouraging stories where
you see, I mean, you think how can God even
use me? Is God even real? What's going on? We
see the story of Esther, she was an orphan who
(20:37):
then became queen of the Persian Empire. I mean, God
can use you and God is chasing after you. And
if you're listening to this and you're
Not sure what to do. He is chasing after you
and so turn and run back to him because when
you have an identity in him, it's a lot easier
to figure out how to work in this world.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
Or even like, I mean, on Amazon video, you got
the chosen and you have now the new one, the
House of David. Like culture's catching on a little bit
more to the Bible again, at least American culture.
So maybe already your good work is paying off. Sophia, you,
you are, you are on the front lines and I'm
thankful and I think I can speak for a lot
(21:16):
of those watching and listening, be encouraged God's got you
right where he wants you. I'm thankful to, to, well,
to know you, but also to know that the work
you're doing and to be confident the work you're doing
is a good work. It is a good fight. You
are fighting the good fight of faith on the front lines.
You are a cultural missionary. Come on. Now, I'm not
(21:38):
trying to slap that identity on you. You can take that,
you know, put that sub identity subtitle, uh, to, to
anything else you're doing, but um.
Yeah, well, thank you so much. Again, um, uh, having
you here is great, but I, I pray that that
somebody got something in such a way that can encourage them.
Is there anything else you wanna add, anything that is
(21:58):
burning on your heart that uh
I don't know you might want to just say to
people out there.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
Yeah, back to the whole purpose and identity. If you're
listening and you genuinely are like, I don't have a purpose,
I don't have a reason. I want to encourage you
that you absolutely do have a purpose and to think
that the creator of this universe.
Knit you together in your mother's womb and has a
plan for your entire life. I mean, it just really
(22:27):
lean into that and even as a Christian, it can
be easy to kind of feel like, oh, I don't
have a purpose, I don't have a reason, lean into
it and trust God and I promise you, you are
absolutely 100% here for a purpose and reason and I
can't wait to hear different stories of how people use
their purpose and reasons.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
Amen, it's good.
Sophia Lore, thank you so much. How can people follow you,
find you, join the good fight as you're on those
front lines? What's a place that they can do that? Yes,
Speaker 2 (22:57):
yeah, I am most active on Instagram. This is a
Woman podcast. It's a podcast I host all about womanhood. Yeah,
so definitely go to this is a Woman podcast on
Instagram and then that way you'll also see any other
accounts I have and californiafamily.org.
You can kind of see more what I do work wise,
but you give that Instagram a little follow or check
(23:18):
it out and that's where you can see more. Well,
Speaker 1 (23:20):
anybody that wants to get involved and come alongside and
do the work you do, maybe they'll be the one saying, Hey,
you got a job for me. You'll be like, yes,
I do. Come on board. There you go. It is
evident that God is raising up young voices to fight
the good fight of faith in this generation.
So let's join together in prayer for Sophia and others
(23:40):
who are on the front lines of culture, fighting the
good fight to advance God's kingdom. We'll see you next
time on Kingdom and Culture.
