Speaker 1 (00:00):
With your optimism, like for the future of this team
and one ten of us slized fourteen games, like you said,
came back from the one and four start.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Yeah, I think we're exactly where where we need to be.
You know, we're on a on a on a chart
that's going like this, and so I'm excited for it.
You know, I'm excited for everybody to you know, whoever
it is next year to come back and you know,
continue to put it in the same work and to
have the same belief that you know we had this
year coming into next year.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
Have you been able to go back and watch the
fumble yet?

Speaker 4 (00:25):
Can you tell us what happened on?

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Yeah, it was a mid zone play and I really
should as to the left. I should have had the
ball on my left hand and I didn't, and you
know the ball was kind of low too, and then
he just had a was able to get a good
punch at it, and you know I was lost this.
So that's something like I said that I need to
go back and you know, obviously work on cause those
things aren't good and those n it's never good to

(00:47):
keep fumbling you guys yesterday, Well, I don't think it
affects us. I don't think it affected us like people
would think, you know, coming from LA and being warm,
it didn't change anything for us. You know, we knew
that there was still a job to get done and
the snow was just added to make it a little
cooler part of it, you know, being out there, and
it really felt like for me, I was, you know,

(01:07):
back at home in Saint Louis, a little kid playing
outside and snow again, you know, having fun while doing it.
So it was definitely cool.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
Looking to improve on before next season, working.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
On yeah, my bass, security, my long fuel speed to
get out of there and really just continue to keep
staying strong, you know, continue to keep working on my
body because you know, I was able to play a
complete season this year and so continue to keep racking
those up and continue to keep having no seasons.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Did you come out plan? Do you have anything to
schedule for the off season and maintenance for anything?

Speaker 2 (01:39):
No, I don't got anything, No surgeries, no nothing. I'm
continue to work on my plates, get back on my
plates and my yoga, but nothing nothing too crazy.

Speaker 5 (01:47):
I mean my mind was thinking about I wish I
got a few more hours of sleep, but yeah, I
mean it was staying for a few more days and yeah,
go from there.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
I'm that fine.

Speaker 6 (02:00):
Don't play on that final drive. Rather, when uh Matthew
got sacked.

Speaker 5 (02:04):
On that blitch, you are open, I.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Mean, if you relive that.

Speaker 5 (02:08):
Yeah, no, I mean I think I saw a clip
of it. I've talked to a couple people about it.
But you know, it's just they made they made a
good play and you know, didn't allow him to get
the ball off. But yeah, it's just frustrating because I
didn't have a doubt in my mind that we were
you know, weren't gonna win that game. So yeah, it's
just frustrating and sad to see. Sad to this season,

(02:29):
this sup of guys, this team come to an end.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
It sure feels like the future is bright.

Speaker 6 (02:33):
That's easy to say, now, does it take a while
to process to get to that point.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:38):
I mean it's just you know, each each season, each team,
each year, it is its own, you know, entity. It's
just ease year is different. No matter how much you know,
momentum you have, or how many guys you have coming back,
it's gonna be a different team next year. And it's
just the nature of this business. You'd like to keep
as many guys as you can. We do have a
you know, a group of you know, core young guys

(02:59):
in here that I have a promise, promising future. But again,
each year is different. Each year is different, and uh, yeah,
we had we had a good team this year, and
it's just unfortunate we came up, came a little short.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
How much yourself until you sort.

Speaker 5 (03:12):
Of get back to it, you know, we'll see it's
changed over a year. Each year is different, you know,
even with the off season. You know, fortunately I'm not
having any surgeries and so yeah, it takes some time
and then not too much time. But you know, the
more I've played, the longer I've played in my career,
I found to take a less and less time in

(03:33):
the off season just getting back and moving and starting
to do things and just just how I operate.

Speaker 7 (03:37):
So no one could have expected these last few weeks,
especially with the off field stuff, to unfold the way
it did. How would you describe these last couple of
weeks and now coming back kind of the conclusion of
this season.

Speaker 5 (03:49):
It's it's been it's been fun personally just being able
to be out there and compete with the guys strap
it up on Sundays, and you know, for me and
I felt the team was peaking at the right time,
and you know, we just unfortunately came up a little short.

Speaker 4 (04:03):
Sharing answer to these question already.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
But in terms of everything you've been through injury wise
and all that, like, do you feel like you still
have good football at the Saw?

Speaker 4 (04:15):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (04:15):
Yeah, you know, I think I proved that coming back
and you know, the five I think it was five games,
five six games that I was able to play. Yeah,
I believe I showed I still got some juice and personally,
you know, physically, I feel like I got some jews. Mentally,
I feel like I got some juice.

Speaker 6 (04:30):
You know.

Speaker 5 (04:31):
Not cup isn't full full yet, you know, so yeah,
excited to see what future old thank you.

Speaker 8 (04:37):
In other wise, you no, I think the you have
to enjoy the journey of these things. I mean, even
we were able to close the deal, I mean, it's
it's a journey that you remember. It's all the people
that you went through those things with. And I think
we have that, you know, we we we were able
to weather the loft storms here and the guys that
we had in this locker room, and that guys that

(04:58):
we were battling with, and you know, that's it's ultimately
of you know, it's something that you're gonna hold on
to and it's gonna be something that you're gonna look
back on with, you know, fond memories and even though
that you didn't get the result that you want, at
the end of the day, you're gonna look back and like, man,
that was a fun journey to go through and appreciate
all the guys and all the work that was put
into it.

Speaker 7 (05:17):
You've been on both sides of it. You've climbed to
the top of the mountain, but you've also experienced getting
knocked out earlier than you'd like. How long does it
usually typically take. What is the process of putting it
behind you, compartmentalizing and then being ready to go out
for another season.

Speaker 8 (05:30):
Yeah, you know, it's tough. There's there's so much that
goes on. I think even just in the you know,
I've had years. I've had years where it's day after
the game, we you know, I gave birth to my
second son, and it's like, you know, the the transitions
of life to you know, all what football is and
all how it consumes a lot of your life, and
then the off season comes and there's there's so much
life there as well, and you know what those things are,

(05:53):
what things are happening on both sides, So that can
kind of change how how you move on or how
quickly you can move on. And uh, I don't know,
it will be interesting. See. I always try to take
some time to just be quiet, be still and reflect
on what it was and what the season's been. And
you know, but I'm always excited.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
Me.

Speaker 8 (06:12):
There's always a piece of you that seems like, you know,
whenever that it's taken away, as you wake up in
the morning, like I want to like, there's just like
chomping at the bit to kind of like, hey, well,
we kind of want to get back going again. So
you just can't fight that because you gotta give yourself
a chance to give yourself a chance to, you know,
kind of look back at what the season was and
appreciate the work that was put in.

Speaker 7 (06:32):
Do you replay immediate moments from yesterday or you replay
things from earlier in.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
The season too.

Speaker 8 (06:36):
I think, oh, you you know, obviously you're as time
goes on, you go farther and farther back through what
the season was all the way back to what this
time was like last year and what we were doing
and the work that was already started to kind of
fall into place. So, uh yeah, it just takes some
time to kind of go back.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
To those things.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
I know you're never a hundred percent healthy at this
point of the season, but were you playing through anything
anything that will require surgery or.

Speaker 8 (06:57):
Rehabye should haveing issues this offseason? No, I should should
be able full off season to be able to train
and do what I need to do.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
You've either mentioned or alluded to a couple of times,
especially late in the year, that this has been just
personally a frustrating year for you. Can you expand on
that and kind of what you have to mentally process
in that regard before deciding kind of what comes next.

Speaker 8 (07:18):
Yeah, it is. It's been frustrating. I mean there's been obviously,
it's just as a team that are ups and downs
and there's all these things you're you're trying to you're
weathering through offensively, things that you know, I feel like
we are going black man, we should be better than
what we're what we're putting, the product we're putting out
there in terms of the production and the points that

(07:38):
are being scored, and then just you know, for me personally,
feeling like, man, there's things I'm watching film, feeling good
about football and playing, but you know, production wise, it's
not showing up and a lot of stuff outside of
my control. It is frustrating. But at the same time,
you're we're finding ways along that stretch to win games,
finding ways to come out of those games with with

(08:00):
w's and even though it wasn't pretty a lot of
times offensively, we got it done. And so yeah, there's
there's frustration there, and obviously there's like you want, I
want to be able to feel like I'm impacting games
and that's done on a much more discrete level, it
felt like for a lot of these games, and that

(08:21):
is what it is. But you know, I can look
back on the season and be happy with the what
what I put on tape and things that were I
was being asked to do for like I was actually
my job and that's all you can do. A couple
more guys, there was speculation about your future with the
team earlier in the season.

Speaker 6 (08:37):
Do you want to be back with the Rams next year?

Speaker 4 (08:39):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (08:40):
I mean, who knows. What's gonna happen. You know, they'll
like a lot of stuff out of my control, and uh,
you know, we'll see what what it's going to be. Uh,
there was obviously stuff that was going on, so, like
you said, early on in the season, and we'll see,
I don't have any clarity on what that it's gonna

(09:00):
look like or anything like that. So, yeah, obviously would
love to be in LA, but I don't know what
the you know, what that's gonna look like.

Speaker 6 (09:07):
That's the bortal business part of this. But you're also human.
How do you process a quick end of the season
yesterday to try to move forward with that?

Speaker 8 (09:18):
Yeah, I think the thing that I'm incredibly thankful for
that I've referenced a lot. You know, I've football isn't
a very consuming thing during the season, but you I
have so much going on outside of football that is
ultuately more important. I can go home. My day starts
usually around five point thirty at night, when it's like

(09:39):
getting back to being with my boys, with my wife,
and I know, whatever happens, they're gonna be with me.
They're gonna be right there beside me, and we're gonna
go through it together. And Also there's a lot of
piece that come up with knowing that whatever it is
gonna be, we're gonna we're gonna handle it just fine.
And I'm very thankful for that, for that perspective that
that they've given me to because of how strong they

(10:01):
are and their support of me in a very volatile,
uh you know, industry. But yeah, I mean, I know
we'll be fine.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
Though.

Speaker 8 (10:13):
Do I want to play next year? Oh? Yeah, yeah, no, yeah,
there's no doubt in my mind want I want to
play football. I feel like a lot of good football
left to me. So no, I definitely will be playing.
I'll be playing football next year, so that much, I know.

Speaker 1 (10:26):
You know, we really made a choice to get better
at practice, and I think that wasn't a you know,
we we made the decision to be like, hey, listen,
we're not where we want to be. Honestly, we weren't close,
and we have to We had to make the decision
to practice harder, to play better, to you know, to
just get better as a football player individually and then

(10:47):
as a football team. And that's something that I think we,
you know, we were accomplishing over at the end of
the season.

Speaker 6 (10:51):
For you personally, I mean, it's not the age of
the car, it's the miles in the car. You've got
a lot of miles on this body. How tough is
this to process being so close but yet so far.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
Just call me old now, Yeah, No, obviously it's uh,
you know, it's tough. You know, it's not my first year,
second year, it's not even my first or second contract,
you know, so obviously, you know I've been around the
block a few times, but you know, to be so
close to especially with this team, you know, all the
emotions that happened, you know, last night throughout the game

(11:22):
that you know after seeing guys you know, this morning,
this afternoon, and just kind of knowing what the NFL
offseason actually means. You know, obviously it's you know, rest, relax,
you know, get healthy and everything like that. But you
know what that looks like to an NFL team from
years prior is just it's it's different. So you know,

(11:44):
we're gonna we're gonna enjoy what we can Tonight. You know,
we're gonna go out, go out to dinner, dinner with
some of the old line and you you know, got
to probably reminisce, you know, have a few laps and
you know, maybe a stake or two.

Speaker 4 (11:57):
Yeah, I know you're price of processing, but from your perspective,
from the perspective of the old line in general, can
you take us through those last two plays, the third
and the fourth down and what happened on those plays?

Speaker 1 (12:08):
You know, I'd have to go back and actually look,
you know that's something that's you know, once the you know,
the the outcome wasn't there. It's you know, it was
a you know a lot of different motion going on,
but it's you know, you know, demounds with me. I'm
not gonna break it down play by play and kind

(12:29):
of you know how that went or what happened. You know,
I'm honestly I'm still probably processing you know, what happened
in that game. So but you know, at the end
of the day, we just we just didn't get the
job done.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
You've worked through a lot this year, physically, like mentally obviously,
but physically is what we we know that. Do you
have anything scheduled for this offseason, any maintenance surgeries anything
like that?

Speaker 1 (12:53):
Uh, maybe maybe not. I can tell you today I'm
not having surgery, so we'll be good to go.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
Like on this day, You're not.

Speaker 1 (13:01):
Yeah today, Yeah, a few more guys. Rob just puts
to that to you about this team's resolved from the
way the season.

Speaker 5 (13:09):
Started to where they were able to end up.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
Yeah, you know, pro you know, product act of these guys.
Obviously we're a very young team, you know, a couple
of guys excluding, but you know, the way they kind
of fought back and you know, really learned, you know,
what it means to actually win in the NFL, you know,
really helps to get to the point, you know, even
to even even have a shot to play in the

(13:33):
you know, the NFC championship game. So you know, definitely
proud of, you know, very proud of this team. His
mind seemed to play really well when all five guys,
all five starters were healthy. How much would another year
of continuity mean to an offense and a team to
have all five guys back again. Yeah, you know, obviously
it's you know, that's that's always gonna be a good thing.

Speaker 3 (13:50):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
You know, the more the more you play with people,
you know, the more you understand the you know, kind
of the nonverbal stuff, and you know, I know how
he likes to play. He knows how I like to play.
So that's obviously gonna be a thing. But you know,
at the end of the day, you know, like I
was saying, you know, and the NFL off season is
full of weird stuff that happens, and you know, no
team is gonna be exactly like another. So you know,
in a perfect world we get everyone back, great, but

(14:12):
at the end of the day, it's not a perfect world.
So you know, we'll see what happens in.

Speaker 3 (14:18):
The child's looking at for a result. You learned this
year as a team, young team and taking it and
growing next year too.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
Yeah, you know, it's you know, it's it's it's it's
just taking it by steps. Obviously. You know, this season
literally just ended. You know, you got a lot of
emotion going on. You're still processing a lot of things.
But so it's take the time, do what you have
to do, you know, as a man, as a family man,
you know, whatever your process is, take that over to

(14:46):
your you know, whenever your training is gonna start, into
your training into d OTAs and kind of you know,
take the uh, you know, take the lessons that you
learned along the way, and you know, try to apply
them so you don't have to learn them again.
