Speaker 1 (00:00):
Would you uh see on that play that won the game?
Speaker 2 (00:02):
It was a man covered. You know, we someone we've
been working on all week preparation that you know, I
had got that opt and it was one on one
and I took a chance.
Speaker 3 (00:11):
Did you know that he fell down after you caught
the ball right away? Oh?
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Yes, when I gave it a move, I've seen him
fall and I would just know that all I had
new was beating safety and I did.
Speaker 4 (00:18):
That about this team after last week's So what about
this team the university coming into this week and winning.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
A game after what happened last week?
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Uh, you know we fell short last week, but you
know after getting his winning he felt great. Now we
played Thursday, quick turnaround, get some recovery in and you know,
prepare for the week and we'll be straight throughout the
season for a game like this. Uh you know, just
wait for one number because it's something I've been doing
the whole year, all these years I've been here. It's
my fifth season, so you know, when it's that opt
(00:47):
to come and making most of it?
Speaker 5 (00:49):
Do you have? You called it? Many game winning touchdowns
like that?
Speaker 1 (00:52):
Uh? Two point versions not really magic, but you know,
so if you're only getting on one target a game.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
You got to make the most of it. Seas like
man a whatever it takes.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
But was the win you got too today though?
Speaker 3 (01:04):
It's fine.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
It was almost like a playground kind of a players
like just throw a deep baby, I'm gonna get there.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
Just throw it up and I'm gonna get it.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
I'm coming down.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
I feel like that's awesome.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
You talk me about maximizing the opportunities.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
I mean, like I said, man, since twenty one and
coming up to now, uh, that's what I had to do.
You know, had a lot of good receivers in front
of me, a lot of great good receivers, and you know,
just it's all about way your turn. So that's what
I do. Stay patient and when that time is coming,
ready for it.
Speaker 6 (01:32):
You get a sense that like that could be a
player that hit her or just how do you think get.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
Theop just really much. I'm really backside of the concept
what it was for real. But you know, when it's man,
when it's zero, well not not say zero, but when
this man like that, W I'm man. Everybody available, You
get what I'm saying. So it's really about who when
they match up and you know, Matthew trusted me to
win my matchup and sisters, let me go ahead, appreciate you.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
For you as far as being have opportunity to spread
the ball out with you Pooka to to obviously weddings
and you know, so many weapons on this team. Yeah,
how much is it make your job easier but also
fun at the same time. I mean, it definitely makes
my job easier.
Speaker 4 (02:11):
I mean I've been on a lot of good teams
and you know, play with the Packers and we won
a lot of games and was able to be productive
and and all of that, but a lot of it.
You know, going into the game, I knew I was
gonna have to take on the brunt of the work,
and you love it as a competitor and somebody that
wants to make plays and get a lot of volume.
But at the end of the day, having guys like
Pooka j Wiitt that'll go and block somebody, you know,
(02:33):
block a d n if he has to, and then
you know, come in and insert and run a high
cross and kill you with that too. So it's really
this is the type of team where you just pick
your poison, you know, very selfless. Everybody's just happy for
each other's success and and it's it really makes it
more a lot more fun that way.
Speaker 7 (02:50):
You can point to three different times in this game
where you just had to score, Yeah, before the half,
when you're down a touchdown, and then obviously at the end,
just what do you see with this team this whether
it's Matthew, whether it's McVeigh, what do you see with
this team offensively?
Speaker 4 (03:03):
In those situations you could just see it in in
everybody's eyes. I mean, I wish everybody was able to
be in the huddle and and just feel the confidence
that that every person has the amount of communication that
we have. I mean it's, uh, you know, Coyrien's our fireball.
He's he's usually getting everybody fired up. You know, I'm
I'm bringing in with the veteran leadership, Pooka's just in
his own world, locked in doing his thing, and and
(03:25):
Matthew leading the show. I mean, everybody's got something and
and you know, with the big boys up front, just
every time we get in a huddle, you know, you
you just feel the unity, and uh, you know that's
what it takes to me able to win games like this.
Speaker 5 (03:37):
If that makes him so hard to start.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
I mean, he's just a little bit of everything.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
Really, He's just uh, he's he's consistent. You obviously know
he can he can get open. He's he's got a
lot more tools than what people realize. Great, great hands
and strong at the catch point, and he's obviously really
tough to bring down once once he's running with the ball.
So that mixed with the way that that Sean can
all these plays up and get them, you know, in
some positions, or get anybody in positions to make plays,
(04:05):
I mean, that's that's that's a little bit of it.
It still doesn't really tell you exactly what you gotta
feel it and understand he's a gamer too. It's like
see him and what he can bring in camp and
and he made a lot of plays. But to get
in the game and to just go and just consistently
just be so efficient, it's gonna make it hard on defens.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
Like when they turned it over down at the one
inch line and I'm totally different ballgame after Yeah.
Speaker 4 (04:31):
I mean everybody, everybody's head just stays in it. You know,
every time. All we need is time and downs. You know,
if you if you're in a realistic position to be
you know, uh have a shot at winning the game.
So and you have the type of players we have,
you're always gonna be confident and feel like you're in it.
Speaker 6 (04:45):
A couple of weeks ago that uh, Stafford's maybe the
calmest quarterback you've ever been around, Like those gotta have
it downs and fourth quarter of moments. Is that when
you kind of see that the most.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
One hundred percent.
Speaker 4 (04:55):
I mean you you forget almost how intense the situation
is because of how lax he is in a good way.
So you never want to have somebody just run around
with their head on fire and being emotional super high
and then get low. Like I say, it's just even
field all the time, and that that kind of just
kind of permeates throughout the rest of the team and
(05:15):
in the offense definitely.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
How difficult is that explain?
Speaker 4 (05:22):
I mean, it's not the way we draw it up,
but it's everybody's got to do with it, and we h.
I mean, I'd like to think we came out of
this one pretty healthy. So anytime you can come out
feeling pretty good, that's obviously gonna give you better chance.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
All right, thanks appreciate me.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
What were the emotions like on the sideline throughout this game,
close opportunity for them, and then you needed to score
so many times.
Speaker 5 (05:42):
I think there's a quiet confidence that we filled our offense,
and especially for the way that we've been playing footballers
for ast couple of weeks, where we know that the
mistakes are on our end. It's nothing that the defense
is making us do. So just trying to go out
there and have our perfect execution so we can go
out there and score touchdowns.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
But we'd like to see you get that moment come
up with that play.
Speaker 5 (06:02):
That was a sweet one. I just remember turning around
and being like, oh please, and then and then there's
well so, and then there's as soon as he caught
the ball and everybody knows that nobody he's not getting
caught from behind, So I just started to start spinning
as fast as I can to try to catch up
to the play and celebrate with him and the end zone.
I think it's been a testament because we see those
plays during the week. It may not show up every
(06:22):
week on Sunday, but those are the plays that he
makes a Tuesday through Tuesday through Saturday, so we expect
those from him. And Uh, it was good to see
him get a big smile on the space after making
a big play that we needed.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
What happened to you?
Speaker 5 (06:35):
I got a h rolled up on one of the
run plays. There's some some big human beings over there,
and you know sometimes they win the battle every once
in a while. Did they have to do anything to get.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
You back out there?
Speaker 5 (06:45):
No, Luckily we were able to see all the images.
Everything was good, and then just trying to make sure
I could go out there and catch a pass from nine.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
First.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
Pooka admitted that it was like a playground a touchdown, right,
It was just like, hey, I'm going deep, throw me
the ball, baby.
Speaker 5 (06:59):
Yeah, well, I think a little bit. I mean, I
know number nine he's watching everything, and so when we
go and we see those opportunities, Uh, that the defender
who's slepting off on the back side, that number guy,
that guy number nine has seen it in every clip.
So I think it's something that he was aware of
during the weekend. It's something that we took advantage of today.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
For you, as far as having that divers skill set
in the wide receiver role with you obviously deva say
to to so many others. It doesn't make it doesn't
really make you have to do all the work.
Speaker 5 (07:27):
I think it's super exciting. I can't imagine. I know
the excitement that we feel from Coach McVay and coach
the floor, the play callers of when they're installing, and
it makes it fun because there's concepts going to everybody.
We're spreading the wealth where guys are moving all over
the place, So it's super exciting for everybody to know
one the guy throwing the ball can put it anywhere.
But then we're getting everybody open cashed.
Speaker 7 (07:49):
Up against Savie Howard along Where did you see the
advantage for you in that matchup?
Speaker 5 (07:54):
I think definitely our motions, the way we use our
emotions to be able to take indicators for number nine,
And I feel like this is something we come back
and say every week. The more information that he has,
the better our offense has a chance to operate. So
in some of those motions and understanding what they wanted
to do on third down and the more yeah, just
I think the more information it makes my job. Really,
whenever nine knows exactly what he's looking.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
At, you're over.
Speaker 6 (08:17):
You're already over five hundred yards in just four games.
I guess, just can you kind of describe just I guess,
kind of the zone that you're in right now with
Matthew and Sean and just what they're what they're asking
you to do.
Speaker 5 (08:27):
Uh, it feels super fun when you go out there
and you're you're moving the ball forward and you're feeling
like everything's on the right page. And I just think
it feels good to be on the same page as Matthew.
The understanding that he has of where I want, where
he needs me to be, and then just the ability
for everybody on our offense to go out there and execute.
There are our plays I think I still I can
(08:47):
I know I can still make so the opportunity to
get better is still there. But it's it's super fun
to be on the same page before.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
Momental wise, how big was that touchdown Bright before to half?
Speaker 5 (08:56):
I think it's huge. Those are that that's where the
game could be one of the lost right before halftime,
and then obviously that two minute drill at the end
of the game. So I'm super excited to carry that
momentum knowing that we're getting the ball coming out of half,
and to be we didn't score points, but to be
able to go into the halftime with momentum, so we
can't kind of change the way the game is going.
They were considered the surprised team of the league coming in.
Speaker 6 (09:15):
You've got a good game out of them from them,
Tell me how big.
Speaker 5 (09:18):
It watch and how I think? Yeah, they were after
especially coming off of playing Philly last week, a team
that yeah, you never want you always say you never
want to get beat twice. So a good team coming
in and obviously as some of that, I knew as
the offensive players that they don't put the ball. So
it was nice and shout out to our defensive seeing
that team put the ball, and I know that's something
that they hold uh pride up for themselves that they
(09:39):
haven't had to do that. So I shout out to
our defense. Continue to play strong, and we were able
to come out and execute in the in the crunch
times that we need to as an offense.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
Sure, guys, it's certainly nice to get a w. Then
the other way right, one.
Speaker 5 (09:50):
Hundred percent of them make all this recovery feel that
much better. Thanks.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
I appreciate you guys.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
The last two games, the last game that you have,
we got two interceptions.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
In high school it's been a minute.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
What's it like to get the first I N T
and the and the opening drive and then you wrap
up the game with a pick. I mean, it's it's
so huge.
Speaker 8 (10:15):
Right, yeah, no, it's huge. Just how you start the
game fast and then finish the game in the end
to win the game.
Speaker 6 (10:19):
You know, it's just you.
Speaker 8 (10:20):
Know, thanks Shuler for putting us in that call and
coming in position, and thank God for giving the ability
to make the play.
Speaker 5 (10:26):
Been able to start so quickly this year, it seems
like you're all you know, the urgency is there.
Speaker 8 (10:32):
I mean that was that was a big emphasis in
off season, starting fast, you know, because how last year started.
But it's we got a good bunch of guys in
the locker room, you know, and we we jailed together
real well, you know what I'm saying, especially on the
defensive side. You know, we really brought everybody back, so
you know, we had a whole year and the system together,
so we we know how each other played. You know,
we can put off each other real good.
Speaker 7 (10:53):
What's your comfort while going this defense and in particular
especially being able to make place like this.
Speaker 8 (10:58):
I feel real comfortable, man. We got a real good
coaches with ap beat, you know, Mike Shula, you know
mcvade and the meetings too, like so and just the
guys we got in the secondary, like the guys we
can really trust and like Q Lake back there, you know,
we talk a lot camp kitchens, you know, in the corners,
like we all jail together real good and we trust
each other a lot while we're on the field.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
What's it like to play there? How would you be
able to chart your progress up until this point as
far as in the secondary, as far as yourself.
Speaker 8 (11:24):
I mean, obviously I feel like the secondary we were
starting better this year than we did last year. But
you know, we just taking the one game at a time,
you know what I'm saying. We on the onto the
Niners Thursday, and then you know, trying to get that dug.
Speaker 6 (11:35):
What's it like to play safety, you know and hunt
for the ball behind a pass rush with like guys
like you know, Jared versus Byron Young and everything they
can do.
Speaker 8 (11:44):
Man, it feels great, you know because they always gonna
have the quarterback on his toes, you know, scared, so
you know them them hunting, you know, it helps us
and then we covering and help them you know what
I'm saying. So it's a it's coverage and rests all
works together.
Speaker 7 (11:55):
When we talk about like the continuity that you guys
brought back on defense this year, how much impact do
you see for that in terms of for what you
guys have been able to do in the run game
this year during a year ago.
Speaker 8 (12:04):
Uh yeah, you know that was a big difference too,
you know, stopping the run. You know what I'm saying,
cause you know some games last year, you know, but
I feel like, uh we we starting off real, real
good this year with that, you know what I'm saying.
I feel like everything we emphasizing offseason were doing the
uh the best we can.
Speaker 4 (12:19):
You've seen Chris Shuler developed from last year to this year.
Speaker 8 (12:23):
Uh yeah, you know, I got a hundredercent trust in
Coach Shuler. You know what I'm saying, whatever you call
I feel like, you know, we gotta get the job done.
You know what I'm saying. He puts us in real
good positions. You know, he talked to us through the week.
Uh you know, certain situations of what he's gonna call
to keep us, you know, with him, keep us on
the same page as him.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
So you know, just going into a game.
Speaker 8 (12:40):
I got full trust in Shuler and we gonna gonna
carry out whatever you call.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
Nothing like going into a short week with a dubby.
So what to like being three and one and uh
getting ready for those nighters.
Speaker 8 (12:48):
Uh, I mean it feels good, you know what I'm saying,
But like you said, it a short week. So after
the night, you know, he got a racist from mine
and let's go for on alright, lost of all.
Speaker 4 (12:57):
Uh you know, uh the way that the defense played
in the fourth quarter and coming up with critically stopped, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
That's what we wanna do. You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
When when when the defense is on the field.
Speaker 8 (13:08):
It's our job to get stopped, no matter where we
on the field, no matter what the situation is. That's
our job. So we go out there and do our job,
and you know, PUTT nine on the field so we
can make all the good plays.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
Alright, Thanks a thanks, I appreciated.
