Speaker 1 (00:00):
Is there something that you really love about Week one
that just feels different, especially this is your first week
one in a RAMS uniform.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Yeah, I think it's just it's a great opportunity to
just start fresh, regardless of what happened the year before.
You know, for new teams, new player coming to a
new team like this, it's just a clean slate, so
you can't really ask for much more than that. Come
in and fresh. It's the healthiest the team's gonna be.
So it's just a new opportunity to you know, be
able to go out there and put it on display.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
So I'm excited for it.
Speaker 4 (00:31):
Twanty, what's it been like working with Matthew Stafford and
how have you too kind of bond it out there?
Speaker 3 (00:36):
It's been great.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
I mean it's start as soon as I got here,
you know, the the verbals we got to obviously working
in the off season program, so that gave us a
little bit of a head start there, and they missed
a little bit of time, you know, obviously with his injury,
So just having that time to kind of go through
stuff in the film room, talk about stuff.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
You know, he was in the.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
Back when we were at LMU watching some of my routes,
being able to, you know, tell me here I think
you could do this, or I like how you did that,
and maybe i'll just you know, based off what you're doing. So,
like I said before, it's just so much of what
we do is what's not out here. So we actually
got a lot of time to connect and get on
the same page. And then when we get out here,
being able to time it up and go through some
(01:15):
stuff with a lot of bullets obviously helps a lot too.
So you know, we were able to pick up when
we left off when he got out there. The timing
that you were talking about, from when he came back
from the back injury to now weeks later, his timing
with the timing you guys have worked on together. Yeah,
I mean it's I would say, from from that part
(01:35):
of it, I think we both have a really good
understanding of this offense, me having some experience in it
in the past, so me knowing where I'm supposed to be,
him obviously having the best idea of where the receiver
is supposed to be, and and just having the trust
in it and my craft and kind of filling out
my body language and some of the things that I do,
and uh, you know me kind of taking note of
some of the things he does as well. So the
(01:57):
timing continue to get better. But I think we're a
good place.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
You had a pretty good game against this defense last year,
I believe. Yeah, what do you remember about the defense.
It's it's it's an impressive defense. It is.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
I mean, it's a good defense on on paper, on tape. Individually,
all the all the players, I mean, they they play
well together. They have some real good individual talent. I
think it's one of the best, you know, as far
as star study teams across the board on defense. So
a lot of respect for him every every level too.
I mean up front, they got you know, the the
big two obviously that everybody knows about, but they got
(02:30):
some good interior guys as well. Backers play real hard,
and they got some guys on the on the back
end and know all the player as well. So it's, uh,
it'll be fun to be a good challenge.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
On tape with you.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
By being twelfth opener Matthews sixteen, can that type of
experience close the gap of whatever reps you may have
not got hooted White wish overcoming.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
The back Yeah, I mean I think anytime you got experience,
especially like like I said, we both have an experience
in this type of offense, so it can only help.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
But it doesn't do everything for you.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Obviously, you need to be able to get out here
and get on the grass, which now we have the
opportunity and have been for the last few weeks. So yeah,
I'm excited about it, just because I'm going in year
twelve and he's going in I think it's seventeen. Actually
I don't guarantee you anything, but it definitely gives you
opportunity to kind of, you know, rely on some of
the savvy you have built up and some of the
experience you've already kind of kind of have in your
body a little bit.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
He's not what passes?
Speaker 4 (03:22):
Is that something you've gotten used to yet? Was that?
It's not what passes Stafford's Is that something you've gotten
used to yet?
Speaker 2 (03:28):
I've dealt with a guy that did a little bit
of that, So yeah, used to.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
Be a pet studio.
Speaker 5 (03:39):
Are you kind of coming in and working with the
core like this core on some of the tips that
you've given them to improve their game?
Speaker 3 (03:45):
Yeah, I mean.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
We'd be sitting here for a long time, if if
I told you about everything, But it's just so many
different nuances and I've learned a different way to attack
this position. And I feel like I've studied the position
study DBS a much different way than what people have
done in the past and people even do now. So
I think me just being able to shed some of
(04:08):
the different coverage elements and different tips, small nuances you
know about running releases. It's it's really just a big
umbrella of things and as we you know, kind of
get into whatever we're talking about at the moment. You know,
I try to shed as much as I know. You
know that that could help the GUIDs. Some things I
know that may not be transferable to everybody. So you
(04:30):
can't just go out and teach everybody, Hey, do this,
but if you give them the tools and allow them
to practice it. You know, obviously in camping when we
come out here, that's what this period of the of
the season is for, to work on stuff so you
can know what works for you.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
You know, when it's time to go into week one.
Speaker 5 (04:44):
Eler, can you share with us a little bit about
what you've been going through just your rehab process? Uh, well,
I have blood clots, obviously a lot of blood, with
a lot of testing. Doing the past few months, I
was trying to get a feel for everything from most
part as far as my blod clots and hower how
it goes overall. Besides that, she's been doing testing, listening
(05:06):
to coaching from doctors, and yeah, that's pretty much it really.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
Is it related to what you what dealt with in
twenty twenty two?
Speaker 5 (05:14):
It is, but it is it so when twenty two
it was more so it was a provoked clot, this
was more more so unprovoked happening in my lungs in
twenty two. This time it was kind of just like
I know where so it's unprovoked, so a little different,
but kind of the same thing.
Speaker 4 (05:31):
Even though it was a little bit different, Was there
anything you took from that experience that helped you address
it the second time around?
Speaker 5 (05:39):
Listen to Reggie, doctor Maul, Stephen Tapson, Casey Baden, just
listen to guys stand on my treatment and that's pretty
much it the most part. Yeah, what is it like
dealing with something like that, Cause it's like a spring
gangle or a sprain arm.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
It can feel like you feel good.
Speaker 5 (05:56):
Close to me, uh, I was kind of in shock, honestly.
For a while I was doing football that was like
more for me. But now we have like a a
good plan ahead of us. So I'm in a good
space now about it overall.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
But there was a time I thought that you would retire.
Speaker 5 (06:12):
Yeah, uh, retire. I don't know, I'll retire. But football
is done for for a little bit at least.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
So with what you just said, I mean, obviously you
were working towards this week.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
Are you surprised that you're you're gonna make a go No,
not surprised, not at all.
Speaker 5 (06:28):
Like I said, Casey Baden, steven Law, like the Taps
and Aggie Scott, a good plan ahead of me and
trust those guys.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
So yeah, is there anything.
Speaker 5 (06:36):
That's changed for you along the way or working out
or thing that you're able to do or not.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
Able to do?
Speaker 4 (06:41):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (06:42):
Not really now, kind of the same thing overall would
be deady to give back. I mean that's a pretty
steep mountain at point.
Speaker 5 (06:49):
Uh, that's a blessing for sure, coming here to twenty
and one, being undrafted, now earn a contract and then boom.
Football is done for a little bit. So definitely a
blessing for here and yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
You you like twist play ank l like kind of
know your playing was ready. How do you know.
Speaker 5 (07:08):
The doctors overall? Yeah, they're testing so it's good good
so far.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
Yeah. How much of a mental hurdle is it for you?
As much as it is, you know, just kind of
opposite to us play.
Speaker 5 (07:21):
You know it was tough at first obviously, June ninth
was the the uh initial initial initial point that I
know have blook lots and you know from Nearington now
up and down Rola Coast there I'm gonna play. I'm
not gonna play, and now being here is a great thing.
So I'm here now being president for year. So there
(07:41):
are gonn exercises that you do to get yourself running
and you can't.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
From here around anymore.
Speaker 5 (07:46):
Uh, everything really from running, vers the climber, biking, a
lot of lifting, PLI metrics. Uh, kind of the same thing
but more ramped up up. Are you expecting to play?
Speaker 3 (07:57):
Yes, sir? How hard is that gonna be after done?
You know? Being in practice?
Speaker 5 (08:01):
Uh, I'm getting a good right now. I practice so far,
so I mean it last year, so do it again?
Speaker 2 (08:06):
What are what were the restrictions that you had a
show this point.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
I know you couldn't take part in the physical stuff
practice book.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
What did that from the doctors? What did it look
like going into this week?
Speaker 5 (08:17):
That was the main thing, just having no head on
here contact besides like the lift weights, run condition, the
whole none, just no like head on here contact.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
Is that because it's the medication you were yes, cause eloquest.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
I know Sean mentioned something you guys will have to
monitor and manage as.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
You go forward. Is it so? How easier heart is
it to like put that out of your mind when
you're out there at practice or or when you get
out there for a game.
Speaker 5 (08:38):
Just played football? Honestly? I trust Reggie Scott. I guess
he batten doctor him all. Stephen Tapson and the lawry
of course have a good plan ahead of us and
just kind of lose.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
Really is it an MRI that you had done that
showed Is that the test that showed below it was
a ultra sound Okay?
Speaker 4 (08:53):
And now how often have you been having?
Speaker 3 (08:55):
I do it? Uh after every game pretty much?
Speaker 2 (08:57):
You know? So?
Speaker 5 (08:58):
Yeah, beg going big contact. I do a QR code
I fill out every day and that's pretty much it.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
Really, it's as.
Speaker 4 (09:06):
Much con it's much confidence as you you have in
that plan or help help. Tough. Was a staying patient.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
I mean you were for quite a while obviously just
doing you know, you only individual drools only job through this.
Speaker 4 (09:16):
There's you know, a certain exteff that you could really
participate first.
Speaker 5 (09:18):
Uh, it was definitely tough for sure, just staying in
the course though, being patient, trusting the Lord, trusting the
staff of course, and following your plan.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
Really besides that, just work out. Yeah, little running out
on the field Sunday, be a little bit. That's special
for you. Uh, it's a blessing for sure, but it's
the game. Honestly, Just do my job. And you know,
yeah you mention have your teammates been doing this process?
Speaker 5 (09:41):
So I just kind of very very supportive of overall
reaching out to me, hanging out with me, calling, texting,
the whole nine.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
So prem pretty good so far. You have very talented
with your parents, off of your coach.
Speaker 5 (09:55):
They're great players, overall, good defense, overall, good coaching staff. Uh,
good schemes. Just go out there, truch the ice schemes
are playing and cut it loose.
Speaker 4 (10:04):
Are there any other football players who have dealt with
this blood cutting issue that you've reached out.
Speaker 1 (10:08):
To or talked to about this.
Speaker 5 (10:09):
I talked to the dude from the Bucks, the basketball
player dang we Alart talked to him a little bit
and just say ask questions, gets testing done, and just yeah,
just your your job.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
For the most part, hawss hawses played with smercials just about.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
He's great. Honestly, he's the UH seven year event.
Speaker 5 (10:31):
Obviously play a lot of ball, playoff football, slat football,
so it's a good thing for sure for us.
