Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, telling thank you appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
What has this process been like for you?
Speaker 1 (00:05):
Uh, it's been different, for sure.
Speaker 3 (00:07):
It's my first time, in going on twelve years, being
able to have this opportunity to essentially pick where I go,
you know, So it's it's a it's a definitely a
different opportunity, but one of it's been.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
It's been. It's been fun, honestly.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
The the period hasn't been too long since I've been
a free man, but and.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
Sean wanted to make sure he kept it that way,
that's for sure.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
I was actually just in Japan on a on a
trip with some of my friends out there, and I
mean j I thought he was out there too, just
based off of the I was talking to him more
than I was talking to my wife.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
He he definitely showed a lot of interest and uh,
you know, it's a lot of teams that reached out.
You never know how how that that process is gonna
gonna go when you ever gone through it, and being
thirty two years old and going through it for the
first time, it's definitely a different experience. But it was
fun and didn't last too long. But I'm I'm glad
to be a revenue, what they.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
They seem to you about how being to the around.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
I mean, there was uh a l a a lot
of different things that already appealed and honestly coming into
it knowing that this this may be a thing that
would be a free agent, it was already something that
was on my radar, and after speaking with a lot
of the you know, a couple of players Sean and
a couple of other personnel, it was clear that this
is where I needed to be. Definitely the most eager
(01:22):
organization to reach out UH, whether it was und the
understanding of contracts or understanding of you know, where I
am in my game. Obviously, having an opportunity to play
with UH with Matthews is a a a heck of
opportunity and can't wait to get started with that, and
and obviously the rest of the team too. Being able
to be with a contender at this point in my
career is uh, It's something I've been waiting for for
(01:44):
for a while now, and UH been putting the work
in to to make it happen.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
But but now we got it. So it's exciting.
Speaker 5 (01:50):
Your agent made a public contact is just about this
being a place who can see yourself finishing your career
at What is it about this opportunity that feels like
kind of I guess the story for type of situation.
Speaker 6 (02:01):
For a year.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
Yeah, well, obviously going to the Raiders after leaving, uh,
leaving Green Bay was what I thought was a story
book at that time, and it was.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
It was an amazing opportunity.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
But being California, obviously coming back and and being really
close to home, having having my family in the in
in my back yard, you know, a lot of lot.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Of friends that that are in the area.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
So having you know, my support system, cause I'm I'm
a real simple dude.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
My family and and friends is meaning a lot to me.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
So being able to have them have access easy access
to me out here is you know, it's it's a
good feeling for me, just knowing I'll get to kind
of have that support, keep it, keep it real tight,
and and and stay close to family. And obviously, like
I said, being being a part of a great franchise
and you know, a great team that that made a
a great push last year, and I'm sure to be
(02:49):
another piece to hopefully, you know, get over to home.
Speaker 6 (02:51):
From what you've seen from Afar, what do you appreciate
the most about the way after separate police quarterbacks he.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
D I mean, he don't make it any harder than
it need to be out there. He's he's simple.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
I mean, you look at dating back to when Megatron
broke the record, I think he needed like a buck
eighty something and he went and got him like two
twenty something, you know, So seeing that, just just knowing that,
you know, in that situation, I don't think they were
headed anywhere near the playoffs, but to playing that game
and to you know, not check out in the last
game of the year and know how much that means
(03:24):
to Megatron and knows how much it means to him
to be a part of something like that.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
It just says the type of person that he is.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
And you know, kind of playing each other over the
years and coming across across some past a few times,
I I gathered that he was a pretty nice, straightforward.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Guy and never hear anything bad in the media or
anything like that.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
So, you know, coming out here and getting a chance
to meet with him and talk to him a little
bit today just kind of solidified and talk to him.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
While I was in Japan as well, he reached out
and let me.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
Know, he was as excited about the opportunity, and I
don't know if he was quite as eager as as
Sean was, but it was It was still a good
feeling knowing that the quarterback want you to be there too.
Speaker 7 (04:00):
To say, what was your uh, how much did you
talk to to Sean? You know, you said you talked
to him a lot and play you're in Japan. What
was his pitch to you to to kind of get
get you over here?
Speaker 3 (04:10):
So well, he just basically let me know that you know,
we we already we connected I think twenty nineteen at
the UH at the derby out in UH in Kentucky,
and he kind of told me at that point cause
I think we played you guys in twenty eighteen.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
So he made a he made a comment and he.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
Was just like, look, man, I got a lot of
respect for your game, and it be it'd be amazing
at some point to be able to you know, team
up joint forces and and and figure it out together
on the on the same team. And you know, at
that point you're on a different team, so you're like, yeah,
it'd be cool one day, but to to have it
be a real thing now in and to him to
have the opportunity to make sure that it didn't slip away,
because he certainly made sure it did not slip away.
(04:50):
And that was something that that drew me kind of
even closer to the rams. Just just knowing how much
I was wanted and having different players reach out to
that was that was another thing that that meant a
lot to me. So yeah, it's a it's a good
feeling just being wanted and and knowing what you still
can can contribute and and bring to the game. So
it's always good when the you know, the the other
side or the organization views you the same wage you
(05:12):
view So how.
Speaker 7 (05:13):
Do you describe shots?
Speaker 4 (05:14):
Rep?
Speaker 7 (05:15):
Was up, how do you describe shots?
Speaker 1 (05:16):
Or aggressive?
Speaker 3 (05:20):
I said, aggressive, but uh, in in all the right
ways though he Uh, he sent me a couple of
highlight tapes of myself narrating it was kind of John
Gruden asked a little bit, and uh, you know, you
know how he is in with with ball, so he's
breaking down every single clip. The first one was like
seven minutes, and then he sent another one that was
like probably another two minutes where he's just going through
everything talking about it like he's I thought he took
(05:41):
that job to be on TV for a minute when
I was when I.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
Was watching it.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
But uh, but yeah, it just shows how much it,
you know, ball means to him, how much of a
priority I was for him and and the rest of
you know, the guys here, Cause obviously it's it's not
just him making enough decisions. So but when you when
you have that from a from a coach and you
and you on the free market, and you don't see
it from anybody else to that level, it, you know,
it means a lot. Kind of felt like I got
(06:05):
gamed up a little bit, But uh, as long as
long as I'm here.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
Done matter.
Speaker 8 (06:08):
He's He's spoken really highly you and and just how
much football are you've seen and how knowledgeable you are.
He's also always collaborated with vetteran this, uh, come in,
experienced players will come in and on this team. Have
you started feeling that so far ideas going back and forth?
Speaker 1 (06:26):
I know you just go back, Yeah, see exactly could
Yeah we haven't.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
We haven't been bouncing any you know, specific football off
each other. He he talked about it a little bit
in the in the highlight tapes he was sending me
of of myself. So hey, he knows, you know, my
my football acumen, and it's it's nothing. I'm gonna come in,
you know, put my foot down. I know ball so much,
you know, do it my way. But it kind of
just helps him when you guys both see it the
(06:49):
same way. You know, like right now, I kind of
envision it looking like that for the year.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
How probable, Well, you have to have a more opportunity
to uh work with uh a rising receiver like Cooking
and Hood.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
Yeah, I mean, great opportunity. Somebody that I was a
big fan of. You know when he when he first
got in the league. Didn't know much of him cause
I don't really watch too much college football, you know,
when he got into the league. But seeing what he
did that first half of the season, I'm like, Okay,
this this this guy has he got with a text
that's for sure. And then as I continue to watch
and see you know how he finished a year, you know,
(07:22):
stuff like that didn't happen on on accident. You know,
he's got the the guy giving. He's got a amazing
electric personality. That's I mean, it's smiling every time I
I see him, every time I talk to him, it's
crying faces or lol. So you know he's he's a
happy dude, so it's good young player. He reminds me
of a couple other guys I've come across in the
past few years. So it'll be fun, you know, being
(07:44):
being alongside somebody like that.
Speaker 5 (07:45):
What did it mean for him to make the number
change or was there any back room negotiation?
Speaker 1 (07:51):
Nah?
Speaker 3 (07:52):
I I actually woke up to a text and a
and a miscall for my agent, An Sean, when everything
was basically done and I I just the jet lagged
as hell, so I was I was trying to get
get adjusted. And I walk up and I'm having a
conversation with him before I could even brush my teeth,
and he's telling me that book coupe was already changing,
and I didn't even talk to him about it. So
(08:12):
I think it was his plan already changed to to twelve.
I don't know, I don't know if you know when,
but I know that before I even knew for sure,
if if if I was headed to to LA, he
was already talking about wearing twelve.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
So I did not.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
For everybody out there wanna hate me for making them
buy new jerseys, I did not tell him I didn't
pay him. I didn't do anything that was out of
the kindness of his harder and where you know he
wore in college. So yeah, I guess it makes sense.
Speaker 7 (08:35):
How do you plan to uh uh create chemistry with
with Howdie Stafford? You know, Oh, you played with a
lot of qps that you played with before. Now you're
going into a new system, a new quarterback. How do
you plan to to create that chemistry early on?
Speaker 3 (08:48):
Well, just through communication. Uh, that's that's the the biggest way.
That's the way I learned.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
You know.
Speaker 3 (08:53):
I I started in this game playing with Aaron Rodgers
and he's one of the most detailer into football players
that this game's ever seen. So me at coming in,
I was raw and you know, didn't really have the
same outlook on the game as what.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
I do now.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
And uh, you know that that that changed over time.
Just being sometimes being with certain people it allows you
to kind of elevate your your mental approach. Like I said,
just that that football acumen in general. So it'll just
be another step in and another person to communicate with
and just so happen, it's gonna be one of the
better quarterbacks to play this game.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
So excited time. Yeah, for sure. No, I came here today.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
I got my my wife, Devin is here, and and
my my youngest kid dressing. He's back there smiling. He
was screaming inside a second ago. So he just he
decided he's gonna chill out now. And and I got
two other uh girls that are at home right now.
They were they were supposed to make the trip, but
with the weather being a little chilly out here and
then being sick, I just decided it was probably not
the best.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
Thing to do.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
So we'll get him back out here soon. But yeah,
I just got I got one of the three right now.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
With how many Dodger games will we see that?
Speaker 1 (10:05):
Well, I'm a big I'm a big uh what do
they call it?
Speaker 3 (10:09):
Where they call it when you just jump around the
team the team. I'm I'm a bandwagon for whatever whatever
I'm currently you know, like I was at the next
game when I was in New York. So I like
to go and have fun and be supportive of who
I wouldn't call it a bandwagon, but I like to
support whoever, you know, I'm I'm sharing the city with,
so hopefully hopefully a decent amount.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
And it started off Jock Peterson. I went to high school.
Speaker 3 (10:32):
With him and been known since a kid, so I
I guess I kind of was a Dodger Trean before
this a little bit. So this is the least jump
ship I've ever got.
Speaker 6 (10:44):
Yeah, it feels great, feel great, Very happy to be back,
you know, being from LA and back close to family.
So we're very excited to be home to uh, you know,
kind of just how how free agency progresses. You know,
you never really know where you're gonna start, and then
as things progress you get a feel for more teams
and stuff like that, and this one, you know, it
(11:05):
just started happening, and I was, you know, excited to
get back here. Were your agents told you that this
was a possibility or not where you're going rules or
sure you're actually yeah, I was definitely excited. You know,
as I learned from free agency, you don't really wanna
put too much hope into one thing.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
You kind of wanna go.
Speaker 6 (11:21):
With the flow and see see how the m uh
it progresses. So you know, I was, I was definitely
you know, excited about it, and you know, I'm I'm
really happy.
Speaker 4 (11:28):
To be here watching from afar uh last year seeing
some of the things that they did to adjust up
broad obviously, you know, Christine continues to emerge, the Kada
and the two tackles. And what did your assessment from
Afar with this life looks like?
Speaker 2 (11:44):
And how do you see yourself selling back in?
Speaker 6 (11:47):
Yeah, you know, Uh, I'm excited to get going, you know,
I obviously I know a lot of the guys, and
then there's a a couple new guys last year who
I'll get to know, and I'm excited to meet them
and kind of just ready to get after it and
hit the ground running, and you know, be with a
lot of familiar faces.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
Being gone for a year.
Speaker 7 (12:02):
Is there anything that if you look back on, you know,
if your life the day, did you missed about.
Speaker 6 (12:06):
The rent organization or the things that you know, you.
Speaker 7 (12:08):
Realize that they had done really well.
Speaker 6 (12:10):
Sure, I mean you can say a lot we had
even when I was here, there was we had a
lot of success, you know. So I was just just
excited about the opportunity. And obviously you wanna be around
as many you know, great coaches, great players, and be
around family. So it was it was definitely exciting. Yeah,
it's new. It's funny walking in it kind of felt
(12:31):
like it was completely new to me. So a lot bigger,
a lot more space. So I'm excited about that.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
The prospective playing again with Stafford and when you guys
established a good connection, how was that different than the
situation you know you were in last year with uh sure.
Speaker 6 (12:50):
Yeah, well, you know, very excited to be able to
get back to work with Matthew and as we said,
hit the ground running, and you know, uh both, I
mean Caleb, being able to work with him was an
awesome opportunity. You know, he's a great guy and he's
a great competitor and I only see success in his future.
So I'm you know, I'm excited to get w work
with Matthew. And I was also, you know, very happy
and loved the opportunity I got to work with Caleb.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
Was Matthew's reaction, you know, he he really liked playing.
Speaker 7 (13:17):
With you when you were here, was his reaction to you.
Speaker 6 (13:19):
Yeah, he just sent me a nice text, you know,
just like welcome back and good to have you back,
and you know, just it's great. It was great to
hear from him, and we're excited to work together again.
Speaker 2 (13:28):
Well then, how did they self done together.
Speaker 4 (13:30):
At be around.
Speaker 9 (13:33):
I don't know, it kind of happened really quick. You know,
they're really aggressive in the process, and I just felt
like this way I needed to be.
Speaker 5 (13:43):
Had the career that's had a lot of twists and
turns and got to fight together this kind of long
term commitment. What does it mean to you to get
to this point in your career?
Speaker 9 (13:51):
Oh? Really just a blessing, you know, to be able
to get secure something like this, and just especially like
being on draft.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
Yeah, it just means a lot.
Speaker 2 (14:02):
What do you think you, uh bring to this defense?
What what do you think you can pas?
Speaker 1 (14:07):
Uh?
Speaker 9 (14:07):
Just physicality, you know, just stopping to run and just
getting after a quarterback.
Speaker 4 (14:15):
What were your conversations with Seane up Zay?
Speaker 9 (14:17):
Like, Oh, man, he's he's a character, but nah, he's
a he's a good he's a good coach.
Speaker 4 (14:23):
You know.
Speaker 9 (14:24):
I always kind of like watching him distance being in Seattle,
you know, playing against him like twice a year.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
I always knew he was.
Speaker 9 (14:30):
A guy that I could see myself playing for once.
So at some point, what was it like for you
to have the season you did last year put yourself
in position.
Speaker 1 (14:39):
To give with this contract? Uh?
Speaker 9 (14:42):
It was just like I was a lot on my mind, really,
especially like for after everything that happened in Buffalo. I
was just determined to you know, re establish myself and
just do the things I know I can do. You know,
I'm paperboud.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
Which of question so far?
Speaker 8 (14:57):
I mean, you know you were just right down the road,
but this defensive line. Uh are you collectively getting rebuilt
over the last two years or so? What's your impression
of your new teammates and.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
Uh, what it'll be like for you to play with them?
Speaker 9 (15:09):
They young, Uh, they're hungry, and just I'm just looking
forward to, you know, getting in there everybody and just
like building chemistry and like on and off the field.
Speaker 5 (15:20):
You have that chance to speak with you, press you
up about like out of his vision for how to
deploy you in this group.
Speaker 9 (15:26):
Mm uh he say he wants me in the middle,
like to help stop the running stuff like that.
Speaker 7 (15:33):
How much did you know wanna stay in La factor
into your decision?
Speaker 1 (15:37):
Uh?
Speaker 9 (15:38):
More than I thought it would, Honestly, I I kind
of like it out here out west, you know, being
from South Carolina, It's just something about out west that
makes me wanna stay
