Speaker 1 (00:00):
You guys, you're going, what does this week kind of look.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Like for you?
Speaker 3 (00:04):
Just trying to stay in our normal routine as possible,
you know, just getting back there, had our normal what
was it Wednesday night? Last night, and just kind of
getting in the flow. And so, you know, the operations team,
everybody's done such a good job our video people that
we just kind of show up. I was telling my wife,
we just kind of show up plugging our computers. It's
like we're back in, you know, back at work. So
it's been it's been very normal and uh, you know,
(00:25):
it's a great place to be structurally.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Has anything changed with the run defense or has it
just been a matter of guys, each guy executing their
assignment better with the success there the season, I think.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
That's exactly it. Guys got to execute better. I give
them a lot of credit. You know, they're a tough
offense to defend, and obviously that back is is a load,
and so we had a tough time. Definitely started slow,
and at the same time, guys got to stay in
their gap. We got to get knocked back, we got
to do things. We can't start slow like we did
last week.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
Sorry, I actually the phrase that I was talking about
the success of the run defense to this point, Like
is that do you attribute that more to guys executing
their assignments or or is anything structurally different, Like what
do you attribute that to?
Speaker 3 (01:00):
No, it's just you know, the guys we acquired and
the guys from last year. I think there were times
where we showed some prolonged glimpses of where we played
good run defense, and I think we can continue to
do that, And it's just about being consistent and you know,
looking forward to just kind of continue to build off it.
And obviously there were some things last week we got
to clean up and look forward to doing that.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
What, if anything, do you think your edge presence are
you looking for as the season progresses, because they're off
obviously playing seems to be playing well, but is there
something you'd like to see more from them?
Speaker 1 (01:32):
I don't know about more.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
I mean I always just think every position, you're just
talking about getting better, playing harder. I always think there's
stuff every single game that they can do better. But
that's every single position, and those guys are disrupting the game.
I think if you talk to opposing offenses, you talk
to people, they're probably not guys you want to see.
They're violent, they play hard, they're aggressive, they play good
in the run in the past, so you know, we
(01:53):
love how they're playing, and like anything else, they could
always always play a little bit better.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Darius Williams going from you know, no snaps in the
season opener to playing the most snaps among all cornerbacks
last week. Just you know, where have you seen him?
You know, bro? And just how does that speak to
maybe his readiness and his ability to stay ready when
the moment's called.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
Yeah, he played a great game and he's kind of
taken on a leadership role, you know, among among those
three guys, and you know, Aubrey does a great job
where we come up with a plan and he feels
the flow of the game and kind of rolls them
or based on matchups. However it was and it was
really good because you could see on the first drive
they attacked him in the boundary and he was able
to stand up and made another really good play in
the boot on the comeback.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
So you know, he.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
Played some really good football, played good clean ball and
played calm out there, and so you know, I'm happy
for him.
Speaker 4 (02:40):
Which of your defensive players do you think would be
the best baseball player.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
Best baseball player I'm trying to think, I don't know,
probably Quintin Lake or somebody like that. I feel like
Fisk is good as one of those guys that's kind
of good at everything.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
You see him throwing the football around.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
You know a lot of guys, a lot of guys
would be good, look like, were you guys.
Speaker 5 (03:01):
Well, for coaches, it's you know, a computer screens, computer
screen of fields, a field, even though it's a little
bit different, but you know what I mean by that,
but nothing different. For us as coaches, it's really just
you know, the players on both sides getting acclimated to
what the time zone is going to be and the
time change and all those kind of things, getting their
bodies right. So it's fun though players, I do believe
(03:21):
it really embraced us.
Speaker 4 (03:22):
Now, how have you seen them embrace it?
Speaker 5 (03:26):
Well, a lot of them have, you know, obviously the
younger guys, but a lot of them have started. You know,
they've accumulated years of actually doing this. Now you know,
this isn't Matthew's first roady over there, Higgs, stuff like that,
So their experiences over there, sharing it with some of
the young guys about. You know, it is a pretty
cool atmosphere over there. It's different than obviously over here
in the States. It's unique going out there and seeing
all those different jerseys from everywhere.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
It's unique in.
Speaker 5 (03:49):
Pre game seeing how excited they get of punts and
field goals for obvious reasons. So but it's it's cool.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
Deal.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
What's been your experience in terms of the quality of
the games that are, you know, and the level that
the teams you've been involved with playing over there?
Speaker 5 (04:07):
Yeah, I mean again, it's I.
Speaker 4 (04:10):
Know, winning is winning, of course, you don't care how
you get it. But in terms of quality of plays,
it is it high, is it vary or how would
you you know?
Speaker 1 (04:20):
It's it's ball.
Speaker 5 (04:21):
And I'm serious, I don't know another better way of
answering that. In terms of its still ball. I think
it's just gotten better, just like a Thursday night game
has gotten better, you know, through the years, because again, guys,
the coaches, the organizations are learning how to adjust to this,
you know. So again what's cool is both teams are
going through it, so not one team has the advantage
over the other. But no, I think it's it's real
(04:43):
NFL football just over across the pond. Does Jacksonville have
any advantage because they do this every year? You have
to ask them, you know, or again, we don't care
really where we play and you know how we get there.
Our guys just know during that three and a half
window they are to show well and feel good that
they will.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
Did you play baseball as a kid, and if so,
what was your position? And who would be the best
baseball player on the offensive side of the ball.
Speaker 5 (05:09):
That's a tough one. I'm sure if you asked Pooka
he'd say that because he thinks he's the best at
everything he does. I know Kyeren was impressing some guys
out here with his arm out to the outfield, so
I think Higgs and Colby probably could crank it a
little bit up. So you know, I think there's a
lot of guys that could probably you know, do some
damage out here, but not to the level of what
(05:31):
the Orioles.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
Or the majors do.
Speaker 5 (05:32):
But no, yeah, I did play enjoyed baseball growing up.
I didn't play in high school anything like that, but
we enjoyed it. And you know, you need to.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
Get out to a Dodgers game if Puka can't play
on Sunday, what's the luxury of having a veteran like
Davante to be able to step into that role.
Speaker 5 (05:48):
Yeah, I mean, no matter who's out there, we're excited,
you know. So obviously anytime you have a guy with
as much experience as Davante, no matter who else is.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
Playing, it's just fun to have him out there. So
no matter who's out there, we'll be ready to go.
Does this week been like for you? Weird?
Speaker 6 (06:03):
It's weird practicing on the baseball field, but it's it's
been cool. People get saying it feel like a bowl game,
So yeah, that's that's song.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
What's it been like?
Speaker 5 (06:10):
You guys have a Tuesday off day in Baltimore not
at home?
Speaker 1 (06:14):
Would you do anything fun? I had too much free time.
I didn't really know what to do.
Speaker 6 (06:17):
I don't know Baltimore like that, and I ain't about
to go find it out, so it it was cool
to I mean, like we just got to relax and
stuff like that. Men, the Coole guys went to dinner,
got to go bowling down the street, so I was cool.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
I can tell you who was not a manual? We're Uh?
Speaker 4 (06:35):
Did you play baseball as a kid.
Speaker 6 (06:37):
One time we all we lost one game the whole season.
It was the one game I pitched. So yeah, that's
the thing.
Speaker 4 (06:45):
But you just at that point just didn't want to
That wasn't a sport that stuck with you or anything.
Speaker 6 (06:50):
I have one home run all season, it's side the park,
So now I'm cool when it done.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
That's it.
Speaker 4 (06:58):
You guys as an edge presence both sides, uh have
been affecting games. It it seems like art, how would
you kind of rate your guys performance so far and
what do you think you need to or what do
you wanna improve as.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
A season goes on.
Speaker 6 (07:12):
Yeah, I mean I think me and b why I
can both say it like we we uh, we kind
of feed off each other. Like when he's doing good,
I I play even better. When he's doing what I'm
doing good, he plays even better. Like we just kind
of feed off each other. But to see him kind
of like elevating to the level that he's capable of,
it's kind of like astonishing to be like, I'm not
surprised by it, but it's like I'm happy to see
that he's, you know, getting all the recognition. He finally deserves,
but we're not. We don't think too much about anything.
(07:32):
Like it's kind of like we just go out there, dominate,
move on to the next play. I mean there's everything.
You know, you always be better. I always say, like, oh,
I rightly does this. I read this that you can
always be better than every aspect. But so far pretty please,
always good.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
The overall success of the run defense to this point
in the season, what do you attribute that to, Whether
it be in game adjustments you guys have made, or
or just anything else.
Speaker 6 (07:49):
Cause being intentional? I mean, everybody, like I sa I
say all the times you gotta do your one of eleven.
I feel like this year everyone's just genuinely doing that.
Your wonnableven. You know, you'll focus on anything else and
then if the play comes, if it comes to your gap,
then make to play.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
But that's it.
Speaker 4 (08:01):
That easier said than done.
Speaker 6 (08:02):
A lot easier said than done. I I be wanting
to jump outside gaps all the time, you know. I
I see, you know, say Kwon about to hit the
B gap and I'm like, yeah, I could jump in
there right now, but let me just hold it, let
me hold it. I'd about to go late and let
him get a gator too, and go early and it's
a game of thirty.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
You mentioned Byron elevating, what what do you think he's
done this year that's let him take, you know, another
step off of last year.
Speaker 6 (08:23):
I mean dead sie is when I say pilates, I'm
being Dan. See he he's been so intentional with it,
like he's talking about how good it makes him feel
after the fact and how good you know he uh
his trainer is and everything like that, and you know
he feels more flexible, he feels more fluid, he feels
more I want to say, confident in his body. So
I feel like that's why I gotta attribute.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
To it with him. Hell no, I do hot yoga,
I ain't doing plaza.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
And not to take anything, excuse me away from his performance,
but you being on the other side influence influences what's
happening there as well, Right, I mean do you feel
do you guys each feel like you have a hand
in the other's success because of how much attention.
Speaker 6 (09:01):
I think it definitely goes both ways, Like if you
will take up a double team, but he'll get the
slide and the chip and I get a three one
on one and me and Bo always say like, hey,
if you get that, if I'm taking, like you know,
all this for you, you better win. He knows the
same thing, like he's taking full advantger. You know when
he gets his one on one ops, you know, he
gets the tackle on an island, He's gonna take a
full advantage of it.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
So it feeds off both of us.
Speaker 4 (09:20):
And what kind of challenge does Trevor Lawrence present as a.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
Quarterback for you? Yeah, I mean here's a number one
pick for a reason.
Speaker 6 (09:27):
I mean, like he can move well with his feet,
he can get the first down, He's not easy to
bring down. I think you can relate to a Josh
Allen at that point, like he's not one of those
QB's where he just kind of throwed them up and
he's gonna fall to the ground, Like you gotta actually
hit him, you got actually bowl him through the ground.
But also his legs and his arm is something that
you definitely have to be very keen on.
