Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sean has said what a unique challenge this is for
him this week between Christian being born yesterday and trying
to turn around for Thursday. How are you seeing him
approach this giant.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
He've been single guy i've seen. You know, he's obviously
a dedicated family man, but he's also dedicated to us.
So he's been doing a great job. I think he's
relied on the other coaches as well to help out
where he can't, and it'll be a collaborative effort as
it always is. But he's been around as much as
I've seen him, so he's he's ready rock and roll.
I think you've been doing this.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
For a long time.
Speaker 4 (00:30):
But for you as a baseball player, what's the hardest
thing about it?
Speaker 5 (00:33):
Early turnaround in your state match?
Speaker 4 (00:36):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Physically, I mean, I think that's the most difficult part,
especially this late in the season. You know, going into
our what is it our fifteenth game we'll be playing,
and he got fourteen under the belt and then trying
to turn around and play in a couple of days
is tough, especially for somebody as old as I am.
So that's that's the biggest thing. Obviously, got a great
opponent that we're playing in a tough environment as well.
That not to be discounted, but for personally, for me,
(01:00):
it's it's physically it's probably the toughest part.
Speaker 5 (01:02):
I know, like rain and weather. We always make a
big deal in the media about it, but like, what
from your perspective, if anything changes with rain, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
I mean, it just depends depends on I don't know
how granular you want to get, you know, I mean, uh,
you know, you know, you know, I mean it's just
like how how rainy is it? You know, we played
in London and there was you know, early in that
game was really slick, and and you know, both teams
have to play in it, so you just got to
adjust as you play. And and then it got a
little bit uh you know, dryer as the game went on,
(01:30):
and we were able to adjust, and then I think
same for for Carolina. Really kind of opposite, right, started
a little bit drier and then became rainy there for
a little bit, and then kind of dried back out
at the end. So you just got to you know,
call the game, play the game as the weather you
know allows you to. And and you know, for me personally,
just try to do everything I can to continue to
(01:50):
do what I always do. Throw it in a good spot.
Let those guys go make place.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
How's the way that you vantage to playing a team
that you just played a couple of weeks ago.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
I don't. I don't think there's an advantage. No, you know,
there's no disadvantage either, you know. I think it's just
you know, who's you know, gonna go out there and
play play better on Thursday. That's what it really boils
down to every single week in this league, no matter
you know who's matching up against too. So we understand that,
you know, we prepare to try to go be that
team every single week, and this week's no different.
Speaker 5 (02:17):
If Davante does not play and Monthfield gets a bigger role,
what have you seen what will be What'll it be
like if Davante's not there? And what have you seen
from Monthfield that gives you confidence that he.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
Can have to?
Speaker 2 (02:31):
Yeah, I mean I'm not sure what Tay's status is
quite yet. I know he's gonna do everything he can
to be out there. But you know, as far as
Monk goes all to speak to him as a player,
you know, I think he's a really talented route runner.
He's shown up in some spots for us on third
down in the red zone this year. If he had
to have an expanded role, a ton of trust and
confidence in his preparation, the coaching staff around him, that
(02:51):
room to get all those guys really ready to play
whoever's available.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
The last few weeks, there have been a few plays
where you and Terrence have just missed on big connections.
Where do you feel like you guys are in terms
of like trouble shooting, your chemistry and where you've got.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Like his Oh, just keep playing, just keep playing. Had
a chance for a touchdown on one would have been
a hell of a catch. Had a chance on for
a touchdown on another, got to give him a better ball.
It's football, Keep them moving.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
You know, when you guys come out in thirteen personnel
and you see that the other team is matching that
with with heavy or base personnel, how much does that
impact your pre and post snap processes.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Well, it has a lot to do with the kind
of plays that we call. You know, that's probably more
so anything and then obviously understanding what kind of you know,
pressure coverage front packages they have shown on tape in
certain personnel groupings on the defensive side of the ball.
Other than that, go play ball. You know, we've got
talented tight ends that can block in the run game,
(03:51):
but can also run and catch like receivers. So we're
lucky in that regard.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
You mentioned the rain. Does the way your running back's
been playing help you guys at all in that situation.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Yeah, I mean if it's if it's difficult to throw,
obviously being able to run the football will be you know,
paramount and key and uh, you know, I think back
to even the Carolina game got really rainy there for
what was that early in the fourth quarter, mid fourth quarter,
I feel like it was and I feel like we
had an entire drive almost maybe a couple of plays
here and there where we threw it. But guys started
with a big, big run by Blake down the sideline.
(04:20):
But that drive was you know, steady handing the ball
off and our guys winning up front. So, like I said,
both teams will have to play in it. Whatever it
is it is, we'll go play the game, figure out,
you know, try to find a way to win it.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
It was really tough for you guys to move the
ball against Seattle in that game.
Speaker 4 (04:32):
Entirely, just not only one really long drive.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
I think you knew they were good on Tapa.
Speaker 4 (04:36):
Do anything stand out that you saw after playing.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
Yeah, really good physical defense, obviously well coached, big front,
solid and sound in the back end. Uh, you know
second level players are really good players as well. So yeah,
really talented team and a you know, really well coached team.
We had a short field a bunch of times, you know,
thanks to our defense played out standing and so that
(04:58):
kind of you know, exkew the game gets it feels
a little bit weird. Sometimes we don't have a lot
of like normal field calls. You have to buln the
reds on a bunch you're starting to drive inside. I'm
not complaining that was great, but uh gotta you know,
got to finish one off early. Obviously had a fourth
down conversion that didn't happen for us down in there
on a throw that I can make. So just go
out there and continue to play the game. And and no,
we're going against a really formidable opponent in Seattle.
Speaker 5 (05:20):
No, you're you'll approach it like you always do. But
can you acknowledge, given both teams records and what's at
stake that this is kind of a bigger game than
usual for you.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
Well, yeah, it's a big one, you know, they all
are at this point in the season, and obviously we
know we're playing a team that's had a ton of
success this year. It's a tough place to play. It's
a tough team to play because of who's on the
field and who's coaching them. We understand that, you know,
and and this is what you you love playing NFL
football for. It's a quick turnaround to get this one going,
which is sometimes difficult, but uh, you know we'll be
(05:52):
ready to rock and roll.
Speaker 4 (05:53):
Kinen and Blake's consistent efficiency.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
Just what is that as a tandem from them done?
Speaker 2 (05:58):
For you guys, it's been great. It's been great. You know,
both those guys can really do everything we ask of
a back in this offense, which is cool too, Like
we don't have to you know, when one guy's in,
we're doing one thing and one guy's in we're doing another.
Both those guys, you know, are are playing at a
really high level, you know, bringing their own run style
to life. But you know, we can we can do
anything and everything with those guys. So it's it's cool
(06:18):
to have them both playing so well, are there any
ways that you've noticed the Seahawks defense change or evolved
just from the first time you played them or.
Speaker 4 (06:25):
As the same.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
It's been a pretty quick turnaround, so uh, it hasn't
been too much you know, you know change I would
say I I wouldn't change too much for them. You know,
they're playing it at a pretty good clip, so you
know they're doing a nice job. So uh, you know,
twenties back a little bit more. He was he was
injured the first time we played them. Read inside, I
think the same. So a couple of personnel pieces, but uh,
(06:48):
you know they're they're gonna line up, do their thing,
mix it as they always do, and then play fast
and physical and it's on us to match and exceed that.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
Sure anything you guys as a defense? Hey, sign up
for other games?
Speaker 2 (06:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (07:00):
I like I like it, you know, the rain, I
like the smell. I like all that kind of stuff.
I just don't like, you know, like O D heat
like you're playing in like the Cardinals in like September,
Like I'm not doing all that, but you know, but
like rain and stuff. I like that.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
What makes right fun?
Speaker 4 (07:12):
I think it's I think it's good It's just like
good hitting, like you you really hit somebody, they really
feel it. You see the rain pop off like in
sow motion. Look good in the moment, looks good. I
really think it's like poetry at work.
Speaker 5 (07:21):
To be honest with you, you guys were able to
force numerous turnovers the last time you played these guys.
What do you anticipate them changing things up so that
you guys can't get as much pressure or do you
expect to kind of see them just try and beat
you guys face up.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
I think I think you obviously you gotta make changes,
like we're making changes in the last time we played, y,
you know, expect them to make the you know, similar
changes to you know this second time. You know, obviously
no one wants to have four turnovers. I think they're
gonna do everything they can to, you know, change that.
Maybe he holds the ball a little bit longer that
gaus me and the guy's a chance up front. Maybe
they have different routes and stuff like that, or dB
is gonna have to pick up whatever it is. We're
gonna be ready for it. Like what you said, kind
(08:08):
of came up with different things that you guys disipla
when these people to defensive and you're up spend one or.
Speaker 5 (08:13):
How long you seem play out?
Speaker 4 (08:15):
Yeah, I mean it's definitely. You know, we uh have
a conversation about every day, Like it's what your ops are,
what do your opportunities to make a play. Sometimes you
just gotta do your one of eleven. Sometimes you get
the opportunity you can do this, you can do that,
whatever you feel is the best thing to get you
to make a play. So whenever we have those opportunities,
we just gotta know it and you just gotta be
confident in and make a good decision.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
How does it make you feel when you're that you about.
Speaker 4 (08:34):
It makes you feel good cause it you know, it
makes me know that like the coaches believe in my abilities,
my teammates feel confident. Like when you have an OP,
it's not like a oh, do what you can, Like
you have to win cause we're all counting on you
to win, Like you're the playmaker in that situation and
we have to work off you. So like when you
get an op, you have to win.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
It's the excitement for a game.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
Like this traditional opponent two eleven under team's prime time.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
I mean it.
Speaker 4 (08:54):
It doesn't change much. I mean, like I I say
everything like that, this is a very good team. I
said the first time, I'm gonna save it the second.
Our main focus is just going in and whining. I
don't care about fue time. I don't care about anyone's record.
Like when you go on to that field at Zozo,
whether you got two wins, whether you got eleven.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
Where have you seen the most growth out of Josiah
Stewart just from the beginning.
Speaker 4 (09:14):
Of the year to now. I think it's his mental
aspect and how he's grown mentally. You know, on the field,
you know, you see the way he plays, he kind
of reading the defense. You know, some teams will play
and eleven places, how they do this? Twelve places now
they do that. He's able to decipher what's happening in
each place now, and that's only something that not a
lot of first year players have to you know, it's
usually a second year player that you know, me, I
just kind of got the hanger that to see him
be able to get that on that early, I'm like,
(09:34):
all right, I'm excited for him a year tube you.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
Haven't gone through that rookie year last year. Are you
able to share some tips or ideas with him on
how to handle his or the year.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
Yeah, I mean I try to give him the tips
I have and everything like that. You know, I lean down,
hold a lot, buy a lot. So I try to
give him what I can. But you know, sometimes I
feel like, also it's better to learn yourself, you know,
like if we're in practice, sometimes I'll tell him a
little something like be prepared for this. Sometimes I won't
because I wanted to see how he'll react to it,
and in real time, they'll talk to him after the play.
But that's just something I do. Is like a you know,
my dad always that would meet my brothers did that?
Would me? I do it with people. You're saying your mentality,
(10:04):
see yourself. I think it's a mental aspect of you know,
maybe not every time I have to be the dude
putting up you know a lot of sacks, a lot
of tackles, a lot doing this that I just gotta
do my job. And if I do that, that's good enough.
I mean, we got what's in a comfortable place right now.
Obviously I wish we could take those three losses back,
but you know, we're in a good spot. Right now.
But we gotta keep going.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
There's been a lot of talk about, you know, the
Remps offensive from thirteen personnel, but as a defensive player,
or is that something that you're aware of, you know
when offenses go into heavier personnels and it's like, is
that something that you notice?
Speaker 4 (10:34):
I mean, yeah, that's something I noticed, Like you know,
when we were playing teams like that, they you know,
to try to get the run off, you got to
add in a couple more people. You know, you gotta
add in at another extra tackle, another tie end. You
gotta do these heavy pace and noel where it's thirteen
place inn L twelve t all this extra stuff you
gotta do. That that's just lets us know. I like,
they don't really feel too confident in their run because
that's one of the things that they have to do
to kind of knock us off. So we just have
to be better than you know, planning for that and
(10:55):
you know, knowing how we gotta handle that stuff.
