Speaker 1 (00:03):
Five starts each year, do you feel that you could
as infrequently as you having since twice sixteen class you
kind of built out your roster in the last two years.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
I think that plays a part obviously, when you have
a roster where there's players coming back returning with starting experience,
playing experience, that's that definitely allows you to or I always
say there's less wide open spots now.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
I think if there would have been a draft where
while we would have had.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Again I forget, how may I don't even have, man,
how many we picked overall, but six overall compared to
ten fourteen. Uh, but if it might have been a
draft where you felt like the board could have given
you fourteen quality players, maybe you go that route again.
If we'd brought in fourteen draftees. It's probably a hard
roster to make, though, Yeah.

Speaker 4 (00:55):
And I think it's said, you know, I mean the question,
and you know from some of the things that we've done,
and you're really saying, Okay, the players that you're choosing,
all right, what's the vision? How do you anticipate them
contributing not only for the fifty three but for the
forty eight? You know, are you going to be active,
and obviously there's a lot of things that take place
that we can't control. But I do think it's a
credit to what's taking place over the last couple of years.

(01:16):
And I think in a lot of instances, because of
some of the circumstances and situations that we've had, you know,
there's a patience that we've had and that we've learned
as coaches to give guys an opportunity to come in.
They're still going to earn it, but maybe they're going
to get more reps than they would have gotten otherwise.
I think it's a positive thing for us to be
able to feel like, all right, we can go up
and get some players that there was a consistent buy

(01:38):
in appreciation for and we call them hots and they're
they're all these guys they had hot grades for the
people that we had look at them. When you're talking
about coaches and less's group and when you can have
that collective buy in and then the vision, everybody feels
like they want to bring it to life, and these
players feel believed in and that's so important to what
we want to be about. The Firth realm, Like this

(02:03):
was really about drafts, not just this drought.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
But thought next year as well.

Speaker 4 (02:11):
You know, I don't know, I don't for you, I
don't know if we ever anticipated getting a one that
trading back.

Speaker 5 (02:18):
Yeah, not necessarily for future, but once you have that.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Forward look ahead, the next year as well set up
pretty well.

Speaker 4 (02:33):
One years like dog years to me and coaching Gary,
you know that's a that's a long way away. So
as less than the marshmallow test doesn't delayed gratification.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
Yes, yes you fell he ate that immediately. Can I
get another marshal? Easy? Goose.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
You know I'm jacked about this team, Jack to get started.
But we're just getting started. So there's a we're gonna,
as Sean always talks about, now, build the foundation for
what we're gonna, you know, attempt to do next season,
and then you take it a phase and a month
and a day at a time from there. But Jack
looking forward to looking forward to going through the process,

(03:32):
to getting to week.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
One where oh we're.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
Seven days away till they start keeping scoring accounts.

Speaker 4 (03:39):
I think the good thing is when you just look
at the last two years, Sarah and you really realize
as much as you say, all right, we're gonna carry
some good momentum.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
I think you want to learn from stuff, but each.

Speaker 4 (03:47):
Of the last couple of years, I mean, it's a
totally separate season. We want to be able to build.
There is a lot of confidence, but it's got to
be earned. I mean, you finish the season in twenty
three seven and one down the stretch, you go toe
to toe with Detroit, and then we start one for
this past year. And there's a variety of reasons I
could give for that, but I think as you accumulate experience,

(04:07):
there is an understanding of every year really is a
new year, and when you draw on previous experience to
understand that, you don't take for granted setting the foundation
the right way. That's what we started talking about last
week with the offseason program. These guys are people that
we feel like will be a part of that, but
they're going to earn it and and they're going to
come into U a great group of guys that are

(04:28):
going to welcome them with open arms. But I do
think that we're in a good position to be able
to project a lot of confidence, but we've got to
be able to go earn it and then you know,
you hopefully stay as healthy as you possibly can, which
we've seen what a big deal that is not only
for us, but a lot of different teams across the league.
And what is a really physical sport that we play.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
Emphasis guys, smart.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
Players, Would you describe what We tried to keep the
same theme going. Yeah, so be consistent with that theme
and we've keep applying it.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
It's worked today, especially over the last two years and
years before that, no doubt.

Speaker 5 (05:11):
Am he said he wants to be called pooh. You know,
it was definitely thumbs up.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
But in the way we do the process, each you know,
each phase, there's different people that interact and and and
they interact with the players in a in a uh
let's call it independent silo per se, and you like
to compare what is coming back so that there is
if there is any descent or noise amongst the information
that you're getting back, you you then do you do

(05:51):
you take it a step further to see if you
can continue trying to answer the question or make.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
It as clear a decision as possible.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
But he's definitely someone through the vetting process us there
was a lot of thumbs up, uh, you know throughout
his I mean he was at Arkansas, he was you know,
transferred to Old miss. So there's a lot of thumbs
up for him as a person and football player along
the way.

Speaker 3 (06:18):
You know what that we I know, I know we
talked about it last night with the with.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
The Hey one call can change your life, and I
know there's you can always feel that, Uh it might.
I mentioned to someone today and I hadn't seen all
the calls that get tweeted out yet, but there was
some calls that it might not.

Speaker 5 (06:35):
I always say there was some calls that were very
similar to the Fisk first moment.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
It's just probably gonna be a little less quiet, not
as dramatic dramatic because it's two teammates coming together again,
but there was you definitely felt some of that, that passion,
that emotion that you know what, I've dreamed about this
and now wow, I get to start living that dream.

Speaker 3 (06:54):
So, uh, those are always cool. No, no, no, you
go ahead try to drafted.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
A lot of jailorency.

Speaker 6 (07:05):
The draft. Draft is that something you guys are still
into What are some of the factors.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
That can that positions. I think we're still getting through
that process. You know.

Speaker 4 (07:18):
Part of getting through the draft is also when it
actually officially ends and then going through the undrafted free
agent process. There's obviously, like we talked about, there still
is a lot of layers, you know, contract compensation, different
things like that, But there is a tremendous amount of
appreciation that we have for Jailing the time that we
spent He and I have really stayed in touch. I
know it's the same thing with Aubrey and and you

(07:40):
know some of our other coaches. There's a lot of familiarity,
but there's still is uh, you know, we're probably in
the same position when we talked about it the other day, Jordan,
just because there are some things that we still need
to take care of to be able to truly get
through the draft from the.

Speaker 3 (07:52):
Totality of it all.

Speaker 4 (08:01):
You know, I think when you really look at it,
and less obviously you know being in Auburn alum, but
you look at just the way that this guy played
the game at a high level and you know, incredibly
competitive conference and a lot of guys that are drafted
that are playing on Sundays where he's got the ability
to go through you or to be able to.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
Run away from you.

Speaker 4 (08:20):
And I think, you know, we got a chance to
spend a little bit of time with him as a
coaching staff on a zoom call. He had a great
demeanor about himself, but when you put the film on,
he lights up and you can really feel, you know,
his ability to have a recall and it means something
to him, his security to be able to accept coaching
and take accountability for some things that maybe he could
improve upon. But I think the competitive stamina that you

(08:43):
see the production. You talk to a lot of coaches
in that league that you have tremendous respect for, and
the way that they spoke about Jarques and going against
him and what he meant to that football team and
the competitiveness that he'd really displayed. And you know, and
he can hit home runs for you too. You know,
you give him a vertical scene. He's got the ability
to run away from you. I mean, some of the
metrics that we have on him are really impressive. But

(09:05):
you know, I texted Kyra and how excited I am
for him to be able to get a chance to
learn from him and be around him. And you talk
about the epitome of a pros pro the way that
he goes about his business day in and day out,
and Karen Williams and it's the same thing. You know,
he'll get a chance to see how Blake quarm moves.
You know, what does Ronnie Rivers? How does he do
his thing?

Speaker 5 (09:22):
You know?

Speaker 4 (09:23):
Cody Schrader into his second year, so we were excited
about him, and obviously Less and his group had a
real appreciation for him. And then once the coaches laid
eyes on him, there was a collective buy in.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
I see Taylor Morton's wife, Carissa back in the back.
I believe.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
I believe Thomas Morton, her son, Taylor's son as well,
spent some time at Auburn, So we had a little
inside info on mister Hunter. There you go, Amy, I
didn't mean to let you out, but we didn't draft
any Gators, you know, or but you know what, the
Gators want it all in basketball.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
They beat alburn.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
Les, school Traders, Tordens.

Speaker 6 (10:10):
But in the case of a guy like football, when
he gets up from the intel process from the big
school that he transferred from to the other big schools,
up characterized from the previous school like there's a work
any does that help you?

Speaker 2 (10:28):
That definitely weighs something because I think when you do
leave right there's oftentimes when you're leaving Arkansas to go
to a I guess you call it interconference rival.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
There's a chance for some bitterness for sure.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
So uh and I I and you can and I'll
be frank in in the vetting process, you you can
definitely get you can definitely feel some of.

Speaker 5 (10:49):
Those feelings along the way. In this case, Uh, it was.
And then that's usually right the how he probably handles
his day to day.

Speaker 3 (10:58):
Give him credit for that. Okay, thanks guys, thank you.
I appreciate it.
