Speaker 1 (00:00):
As a veteran rest that is from yep it is,
and that's kind of the second day of those those
four day blocks that I've kind of talked to you
guys about will represent that for those guys that you
just mentioned, how.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Much is well to do after guys cleouns.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
Oh, he's good. I mean, he's fully cleared. But when
you talk about and this has been consistent with guys
that are you know, as experienced as he is. Did
it with Whitworth, you know, when he first got here,
and so when you look at the longevity of the season,
how much work that he's accumulated. The goal is as
similar to what I was telling you guys about with
Matthew and those guys that kind of fall under that
(00:36):
bucket that you asked about at him, is let's keep
them as fresh as possible. They still need to be
able to get their work in. But because of this,
the overall body of work and the amount of reps
that they've accumulated, I feel like this is the uh,
you know, the best approach. And then it also offers
an opportunity for us to be able to get some
other guys some reps. With some of those first groups
and and you know, see their level of competition and
(00:58):
ability to be able to operate.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
It's about when you're deciding who gets takes the veteran
rous sand which day or does that not matter?
Speaker 1 (01:04):
Oh yeah, we you know, with how we're situated, most
these guys are on offense just because usually if you
want to say where is that kind of threshold, it's
usually going into year ten or more. We try to
make it consistent where you know, the rapport for our
offensive guys that we project to be able to play
together as much as possible if they were from similar
position groups, Like let's just say, if we end up
(01:25):
getting to that point with DJ Humphries, then we would
stagger it with he and Rob so that our tackle
position isn't too thin. But because each of those guys
is from different position group, it's kind of it suits
itself well to be able to just say, let's use
that second day of the four day block, you know,
to give those guys a little bit of a breather.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
What have you seen from Hookah so far and.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
What kind of would ideally would you like to see
from him by the time of the season start.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
I just think continue to improve. I mean I've loved
just the way that this guy comes in and goes
to work. Arey, he's a stud. He's got such a
great demeanor every single day. Obviously, the can petitive toughness
that he plays with. Even yesterday, you know, we're just getting,
you know, ourselves a little bit more comfortable. I thought
today was a step in the right direction. But he's
so mentally resilient. He's always looking for the opportunity to
(02:11):
be able to respond if things don't go the right way,
and he stays humble when things are going well.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
So all I'm.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
Looking for is for him to just continue to progress.
One of my favorite things that I've seen is just
watching he and Davante, you know, mix it up and
just talk about their craft. But he's a total stud.
I think, just nached by the nature of how he works.
You can't help but get better. And you know, I
love everything that this guy's about. And then I think
he's done a really good job of as he's going
(02:37):
into year three, learning how to establish a rhythm and
routine that's gonna give him the best chance to stay healthy,
stay available. Some of those things are out of our control,
but what is in his control I'm seeing him do
a great job of just continue and mature and take
steps in the right direction.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
To the quarterback.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
They've done really well. You know, I've always you guys
have heard me talk about it. I think Jimmy Garoppolo
is a starting quarterback. Obviously, we feel so fortunate to
have somebody like Matthew leading the way. But Jimmy's done
a great job. I think he's shown good command the
first couple of days. I've always thought he was a
high caliber player, and I think it offers an opportunity
for Stetson to get some good work that he wouldn't
(03:17):
get otherwise. And so looking towards the preseason, expect us
to take a similar approach in regards to Jimmy will
probably not play, and that'll give Stetson a chance, and
I think for him to be able to get these
reps right now, we'll serve him well for when those
games come on.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
Out With Kevin Dotson, what's it like just having somebody
with his personality on the on the team and how
do you see that positively impact everyone else?
Speaker 1 (03:38):
Yeah, he's just got this enjoyment for coming out here,
and he's got a great vibe I mean, you know,
whether it's you know, shooting jump shots on air after
we score, but you know he's got this. You know,
he's just got a great energy about himself. He's obviously
a really productive player. But I think as he's gotten
more and more comfortable, you know, when we traded for
him in the twenty three season, you know it comes in,
(04:00):
you know late in the uh you know, the part
of training camp where kind of getting comfortable starts to
make himself. You know, his presence felt in the Indianapolis game,
and you know he's just gotten more and more comfortable.
Guys love him. You know when when you're around a
guy that's got that kind of vibe and then there's
that physical toughness, his ability to do some special things.
You know, we love k Dot and all his teammates
(04:21):
love him as well.
Speaker 4 (04:21):
So come is the vibe between Tyler Higbee and Terrence Ferguson.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
You obviously play a role in bringing him in here.
Speaker 4 (04:30):
And how do you mess these two guys together when
Higbee is still your guys still gonna be playing so productive,
but the young guys waiting in a roun.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
Yeah, well, I think the special thing about Tyler Higby.
He's a glue guy. It's why he's revered and respected
by his teammates and by his coaches, because this guy
is all about elevating people, and he knows that by
doing that, he's going to elevate himself. I've watched him
really just lead that room ever since I've been here,
and then watching him continue to mature as a player,
(04:58):
as a person most importantly. You know, he's special, you know.
I remember, you know, I called him before we ended
up taking Terrence and he's like, I can't wait to
help this guy continue to grow. Take him under my wing,
and and that's exactly what he's done. But that's where
you talk about real secure leaders. Know that when I
bring people with me, I think good stuff comes back
to me. And we're gonna need all those guys. I
think it's a really good tight end room as a whole.
(05:19):
And I'm excited for Uh, for Scott Huff to lead
the way. But he certainly knows how lucky he is
to have a guy like Tyler Higbee Uh as a
veteran leader in that room.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
Coach, you've got my you've hat my de mante Adams
from Afar. Now that you have him in the building.
What impresses you the most?
Speaker 1 (05:33):
Oh, man, I uh, you know. I think it's just
the consistency of his approach. I don't know that there's
anything that There's so many things that do impress me.
I don't know that one thing stands out. I think
it's just his consistent approach every single day, whether that's
in the meetings, whether that's his football acumen, his ability
to be able to correct and understand things in real time.
(05:53):
There's so many different things that you can do with
the player of his magnitude, and really similar to what
I was saying about Higbee, his willingness to pour into teammates.
I think those special guys they elevate people around him,
and we've got a couple of those guys that fall
into that bucket, and certainly Davante is one of them,
and he is He's special, and I'm really excited about
the opportunity to continue to work with him and learn
(06:14):
from him as well. He was talking about how it's
a great seeded on him in the field, but where
he's really learned from them in the meeting room. Yea,
ifon Te can explain how and why they did something
in those settings. How have you seen Vonte kind of
help that he's special? You know, he's got just such
a big picture understanding, you know, in a lot of instances,
reminds you of Cooper's football acumen. Where these guys look
(06:35):
at the game through the lens of a quarterback. They
understand coverage contours, they understand timing, rhythm or oute distribution,
and there's a lot of experience, and then there's an
understanding of the craft in and of itself with how
you work edges, how you separate, how you're able to
try to be able to regain leverage even if you're
in an unfavorable spot, and whether it's out here. You know,
(06:56):
you listen to those guys talk. I mean I heard
who could talk about yesterday. I wanted to be able
to let him go first so I can watch him
and feel that live and in person. But then his
willingness to share, you know, even I'm not always in
their meeting rooms, but when I am, I'm so impressed.
But then when you hear Eric Yarboro and Nahoh Alison,
Rob Calgary's just talk about his ability to communicate, his
(07:16):
understanding of how to communicate in a clear way that
guys can digest it and understand and then ultimately translate it.
It's some special stuff. I'm glad he doesn't want to
coach because he takes our jobs.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
Show the manual forms, made a couple of nice plays.
What have you seen from him from both physical and
mental standpoints? Obsson to get ready for here.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
Yeah, I've been really pleased with him. We talked about
him a lot in the spring. You know, a guy
that you know did a great job in the weight
room of being able to, you know, put on some
weight to be able to, you know, play this game
while also not losing the functional movement and some of
the things that have made him a guy that was
a first round pick. I think Aubrey does such a
great job justin love. It's done a great job of
helping him, and he came back in the same type
(07:54):
of shape. You know, He's had a good weight that
we feel like is functional. I think he's really picked
up where he left off in regards to you feel
a lot of the plays, you feel an understanding of
some of the things that we're asking. Where do his
playoffs come about within the framework of the scheme and
then ultimately like we talked about these settings. You know,
I think our guys are really doing a great job
of understanding how to practice, how to push the tempo.
(08:16):
But this isn't real football right now. It'll be closer
to that when we actually put the pads on. But
been really pleased with the manual and really been pleased
with that group as a whole. On the back end,
I think Aubrey coach Beek and Mike Harris, they've done
such a great job. I thought they had a great
energy today and you know, you could feel that on
the field. Britain. About expectations that the season for you
(08:37):
guys number one in the NFC, some of be the
same one hole?
Speaker 2 (08:40):
Do you create things like that? How do you process it?
Speaker 1 (08:44):
We sort of see that the team has.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
High expect here.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
I think, you know, the consistency of our approach is important,
you know. I think when you look at it, you
know you appreciate the respect, but you also know it
really has nothing to do with it with what's going
to happen when the season kicks off. And what's great
about the NFL is people care a out writing about
those types of things, but we try to stay inside
out as much as possible, whether it's nobody has any
expectations or whether people have expectations, all that stuff goes
(09:09):
out the window once you play real football. We're trying
to stack days right now and been a part of
where you exceed him, been a part of where you
don't live up to him. And so we've we've seen
both ends of it, and we know that that's that's
not real, even though there's the fun narratives to follow,
and we appreciate the nice stuff, but we also know
it really doesn't mean anything, and the real stuff comes
into play when we play the ball.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
Games change well, you go ahead.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
Well other than him still talking and you can't hear
him shut up ever, I love him. I mean he
is never shutting up. But he's got a relentless energy.
I think he's understanding, you know, how to be able
to use that to his advantage, you know, continuing to
mature where you talk about you used to hear Aaron
Donald talk about the controlled aggression, and you know, how
(09:54):
consistent can he be. He's got these unbelievable plays to
find you in a meeting for that right there, just
right there. But he's been great and he's very coachable.
You know, Joe Canigolo has really high standards for him. Yes,
high standards for himself. He is getting better, but he's
also very coachable when we don't do things that are
what we expect. But I love the guy's approach, love
(10:15):
his energy, and you know he's a hard guy not
to like being around. Okay, thanks, guys, what's up?
Speaker 2 (10:23):
I'll start us off? So, how the how do you training?
Camp workouts? Comparative workouts with Aaron Donald.
Speaker 4 (10:28):
I'll do these every day of the week, two times day,
no doubt about that. That work guy was psychotic. I'm
never doing with that again. He did change my workout
with team though. Now my work guys don't hit no more,
so that I had to go a little harder.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
Told I practice team defense was flying around. What would
you say, That's how we are.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
That's all our defense is our defense love we we
really get after it everything like that offense was definitely
making the play. Poker was definitely catching that ball across
the middle, doing some big plays.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
So we're gonna have to fix that.
Speaker 4 (10:54):
But now that's how he is a defenseles you have
for yourself in here two, give me be the best
version of me. That's all the matter is whatever helps
the teams was helping me.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
How much fable do you feel?
Speaker 4 (11:05):
Oh, I feel like this like a like home, Like
I'm not nervous, I'm not waighted. I'm gonna mess up
if I mess up and move on to the next play.
If I don't, I got sacked.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
So that's last year at this time.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
Were you concerned about that, about just trying to do
everything right and not make mistakes.
Speaker 4 (11:22):
I think that's a rookie kind of idea of mindset.
You know, you go out there, you don't want to
mess up, you want to make the plays. But then
you know, we had OTA's beforehand. I think I kind
of got all that out the way in OTAs.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
Was there a moment when you realize.
Speaker 1 (11:33):
Like it's can not be here? Uh?
Speaker 2 (11:35):
Nah.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
I think it's just kind of like a natural thing.
I think it was after literally after the first day,
you know, when Sean got in my face kind of
was like, hey, you can't act like that last night,
how it is? I kind of calmed down that second
day it just felt like home, Like I didn't really
have too much answer Jared.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
I just asked Aaron about that workout a couple of
days ago.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
He gave you bad props by the way, he said
you home. U. Can you describe, just from the beginning
to the end what that was like, fat, I'll tell
you exactly. What the hell. I show up.
Speaker 4 (12:02):
It's like eleven in the morning, thinking we got like
an hour work, I got plans, I got things I
got to do throughout the day.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
I was playing, I watch a film and everything like that.
We show up.
Speaker 4 (12:10):
He doesn't say hi, and nothing like that. He sees
He's like, come on, he's a little dap up. We
walk inside. He's like, stretch, how you have to I stretch?
We do four Everything he does is like a circuit.
We do four workouts. It's all cardio versus climber bike
was a lungees and corps four rounds each. You do
all that, You're like you already tie you kind of like,
oh my god.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
Whatever.
Speaker 4 (12:30):
Then you do four sets of cords, two different like workouts.
So it's like eight different workouts, four sets each. You
do all that for four sets.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
You go through it.
Speaker 4 (12:37):
He's like, are you right for the real Workout'm like, buzz,
I've been here for forty five minutes.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
What you're talking about. We go to the weight room.
It's all arms. That's why he's big as hell. We
go to the weight.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
Room, it's like eight different circuits, all arms, four sets each.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
I'm there for an hour and a half. His wife
came in laughing at me.
Speaker 4 (12:53):
I told him to call the police, like I'm dea
sit like I'm not even joking, I'm dens. I told
him to call the police. She wouldn't do it. I
tried to lie and say my mom was at my
house and had to go let her in. He told
me to give my keystacks like like his management or
assistant or something. They wo go let my mom in.
So I wasn't leaving finished the workout. I'm like dead tired.
I'm exhausted. I had a plan to, like, you know,
go do comping the sauna afterwards didn't happen.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
I have plans to watch film. Didn't happen.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
I went home and I didn't work out for like
another like day and a half because I couldn't move
my body. He needs to stay away from me in
the security season property. They need to take care of him.
Speaker 2 (13:28):
Once you did fully recover from that. What sorts of
things did you take from those workouts and.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
That your own?
Speaker 4 (13:33):
Oh, it was definitely the mindset that, like, you gotta
keep going. Like the one thing he kept saying throughout
the whole workout, and he doesn't really show too much
in the video, think of the fourth quarter, Like everyone's
good the first of the second third, you know, but
what about the fourth That's where you make your money.
That's where you make your money. You like kept saying.
He's saying it loud and proud. He was talking like me.
I was like, damn man, Okay, I guess this level
is how.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
Impact was that mentorship for you? You know, to have
that kind of.
Speaker 4 (13:56):
It was insane, like you know, forget like the media
and like everything like that, Like I'd have done that
just me and him.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
It was.
Speaker 4 (14:01):
It was insane to see, like that's the level it
takes to kind of be like, you know, and the
discussion is the best player, defensive player ever, best player ever.
So to know like that's kind of the level I
have to reach on a consecutive basis, That's what I'm
shoting for now. It was definitely eye opening.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
Easy Jared, after pushing your your muscles to the brink,
how have you pushed your mind and your mentality to
the Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
Uh. Corey Simon, they uh.
Speaker 4 (14:24):
He was an fcu UH football player way back when
playing in the league too. He told me right when
we got out of a after an Eagles game, he said, hey,
you had a good season, congratuations on all. You know,
all you've done everything like that. Go watch the whole season,
not just your good plays the bad plays. So I've
watched every pla, every game, probably about three four times each,
just watching everything I've done wrong, everything I've done right.
And you realize how many bad plays you had with
(14:44):
all like the accolades and all that stuff, you realize
how much how much better you can grow.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
And don't let your head get too hot. It's like
now like I'm thinking of like how much better I
can get. People like, oh, you're good, You're good. No,
I'm I got so much tuggle to go.
Speaker 3 (14:54):
Is there any play that stands out or any game
that stands out in particular.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
The Buffalo game.
Speaker 4 (14:58):
Nah, I definitely they definitely found my weakness in that game,
and I definitely made sure that's not problem.
Speaker 2 (15:02):
No more is Anythinge's ticking it out to you offensively
or the defensively, first first couple of days, agamp Coogar's
a psychopath.
Speaker 4 (15:09):
Defensively, I think our second day they are locking everything up.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
They're giving us time to get back there.
Speaker 4 (15:14):
We have you know, honestly, we have minutes to get
back there like that, they're locking everything up on a
consecutive basis. So knowing that we have that in the
back end, and like I can kind of take my
everything has to be a bullrush immediately in there trying
to get pressure, and I have time to actually work
my own rushes.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
That's definitely helpful.
Speaker 3 (15:27):
What's been your impression of David Questonberry and DJ Humphreyes
now that you've gone against.
Speaker 2 (15:32):
Them the last couple of days.
Speaker 4 (15:33):
They're definitely vets. They know what they're doing. They're really savvy,
you know. They they know exactly what they're doing. They
know how to kind of play with your mind everything
like that. They know allal strengths, all weaknesses. They try
to take advantage of that. But you know, that's definitely
helps you reach another level.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
How much pressure do you put on yourself? So you said,
what how much pressure do you put on yourself? Knowing
you're the face of the defense.
Speaker 4 (15:54):
I got, I got ten other guys on the field
with me. Then they make up anything with me. If
I mess up, I know ten of the guys gonna
hustling that ball to make up for it. I mean,
even like just take away yesterday, I ended up taking
a move I shouldn't have taken. I was able to
get you know, reached. I made them bubble a little bit.
That's not what That's not what our defense is about.
Where everybody come in camp, call, come in, tap off,
game of two. I'll take that any day of the week.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
That's all this offseason. You said you think about that
Eagles game a lot. Do you think about Week three
and getting to play them again?
Speaker 4 (16:19):
I think about the next day. I'm not worried about,
you know, week three. I'm not worried about week one.
On my way about week two, I'm not worried about
any preseason games, any joint practice.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
I'm worry about.
Speaker 4 (16:26):
Tomorrow is a few more.
Speaker 2 (16:28):
Are you're giving any of the Brookies any advice or
kind of.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
Blocking them through anything that helping out?
Speaker 4 (16:33):
You know, my knowledge is limited. I've only been here
a year, but I try to give them everything I
do know. You know, anything that can help them, anything
that can you know, help them, you know, feel a
little bit more confident. I know how it is to
kind of feel on the edge, you know when you
first get here, not make any mistakes.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
Any efforts to get in committed me better. How did
you get How did you approve today? Uh? Today?
Speaker 4 (16:48):
My biggest improvement was kind of like working the edge
a little bit more. Yes day I was taking a
lot of inside moves, I was working on my accounts.
Today I wanted to work the edge a little bit more,
and it worked really well with the defensive skeep we had.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
Going in be prepared for this training camp versus the
first you know your rookie year.
Speaker 4 (17:02):
I think I think my rookie year. I was so
mentally like, oh I got the pound, they got the pound,
they got the pounded.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
This is a grind.
Speaker 4 (17:07):
It's a long seventeen season, the seventeen game season. We're
trying to go a lot longer than seventeen games. So
I can't push myself too much harder. I was getting
afted by Stelle. Was able to take a little step
back and realize and now every day needs to be
you know the grand finale.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Thank perfect, Thanks you much,
