Speaker 1 (00:00):
Okay, good day today.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
You know, it'll be good on Monday to be able
to get the pads on. And a little update on Matthew.
He's doing really well. You know, we've got a good
plan in place. We are going to still take some
more time with him, though nothing that's changed in terms
of the setback.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
I probably spoke a little.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Bit too soon, but the ultimate goal is Houston and
being mindful of that, so we'll take it a week
at a time with him. So I did want to
be able to, uh, you know, let you guys know
about that. Based on sitting down with Reggie and and
with Matthew and talking with doctor Watkins, feel like that's
the smart thing to do, you know, a week at
a time with him.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
So you don't anticipate that he will practice at all
nice week.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
No, do not anticipate that. And uh, but I don't
have any more concerns. You know, the goal in mind
is Houston, and I do think that this is the
best plan for him, And you know, I wanted to.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
Let you guys know about that.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
What it's just, I mean, if you hoped and expected that.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
He's not a doctor, I know, but so I'm giving
you the information that I know it not worry me.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
You know, what I probably should have.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
Done is say we're taking it a week at a time.
But I don't have any reason to be concerned based
on the information that's been given.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
And with that being.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Said, you know, I don't think we can be smart
enough with somebody like Matthew, and I think it's best
for him, best for our football team, and you know,
and that's kind of the plan that we'll have moving forward.
And so I know that kind of you know, will
surprise people, but I did want to at least let
you guys know as we're kind of, you know, being
fluid with this. But I don't have any reason for concern.

(01:33):
But I do think it's the smart thing, just based
on September seventh or whenever the date of our opener.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
Is, you know, with that being the main goal in
mind for us.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
So if there's no setpack, does that just mean it's
been a slower privy process.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
No.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
I wouldn't even say that, Adam.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
I would just say that as you start to really
talk to you know, you get the different opinions on
what is the best way to allow him to be
as healthy as possible for seventeen games and then hopefully
you earn the right to be able to do that thereafter.
You're really saying, Okay, let's let's really gain all of
the information and we'll take it a week at a time.
As kind of the approach that we're going to take.
We do have some target goals in mind, but similar

(02:09):
to last week, what I don't want to do is
get ahead of myself. And you know, I think we
have to be fluid and flexible and ultimately, this is
what's best for Matthew Man for a football team, and
we have to be ready to adjust and adapt. And
I don't have any reason to be, you know, concerned.
It's just going to be a little bit longer in
terms of you guys seeing him out on the field
and maybe what I had originally anticipated.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
But that's going to be okay, and we'll handle it
the right way.

Speaker 4 (02:33):
John, what stands out to you in camp this year
as opposed to similar this time last year and where
you guys are because you were so much younger.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
Than Yeah, you know, I think it's hard to compare
year to year.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
I think what I've liked about this team is the
attention to detail, you know, I think they've stacked some
good days. You know, we we just finished up our
five day acclamation period.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
I think guys are competing.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
I think it'll be good to be able to put
the pads on, to be able to add some different
schemes that are more in alignment with playing real football.
I thought there was some really good opportunities for us
to be able to learn from today where emotions get high,
guys are competing, and how do we really you know,
push the envelope where there's that controlled aggression and we're
not doing anything that hurts each other, hurts you know,
our team if we were to get you know, stupid

(03:15):
penalties and uh in a real game. And so I
think that's what's great about these practices is let's mimic
and emulate game like situations as much as much as
possible and then be able to really, you know, continue
to test ourselves both mentally and physically. Sean, you see
Poop Paul or a pillow with aspoon out there today,
do you have any.

Speaker 4 (03:31):
Updates on them?

Speaker 2 (03:31):
Yeah, Pooh is uh, you know, we're just being smart
with Pooh. He's got a little bit of a calf.
And Akello, you know, is just feeling a little something.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
So you know he'll be day to day like a
sickness No, no, just In as Uh, you know, a calf. Yeah,
both of those.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
Guys, Jordan Weddington and this is development on Hens that I.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
Can't you know, I've been super impressed with him.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
He's done such a great job of you know, you
look at a guy that came in and was mature
beyond his years as a rookie last year.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
He's got the ability to play all three spots.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
You know, he can really compete in the run game,
and I think he's really continuing to increase his route volume.
He's played really well. He's strong, he's so conscientious. He's
just one of those guys that you just don't bet against.
You know, he's a good football player. You can't have
enough guys like that.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
We love.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
Jaywitt, Georgian and Blake Kippo talked about how your.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
One was learning what to do in the offense, which
team was learning how and what is the biggest part
about making that child in terms of understting the offensive.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
Your second year.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
I think it's just getting reps. You know, we talk
about it all the time. Adam Repetition is the mother
of learning.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
You know, I think guys get more and more comfortable
the more.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
That they play, the more that they really understand, you know,
what's going on on the other side of the ball.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
And kind of what's the intent of what we're really
trying to be able to get done.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
But those guys are both so conscientious and really that's
consistent with a lot of the guys that we have
on our football team. And I think that allows them
to just get better because they're conscientious and you know,
you'll hear me say it over and over against stacking
blocks and it gets you know, it can be boring,
but and it's it's the only way that you continuously
grow and continuously go in the direction that we want.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
And both those guys are in the midst of doing that.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
First year thoughts on Big garminis.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
Far, he's been awesome.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
You know, he's he's a great communicator, he's got great command,
he's got the ability to elevate people, he's got a
great feel for attacking the football. You know, he got
another punch out today. But I just like the way
that this guy's got a great vibe. He's just got
some natural leadership traits and communication skills where he understands
what's going on from an all twenty two perspective, and

(05:31):
I think when you're talking about a guy that's at
that inside linebacker position, it's key and critical and he's
done a great job leading the way for that group.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
Sean, what would he had to say to Jared after
that little scuffle at the lead in the.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Field, Just kind of what we talked about controlled aggression.
I like the way that he responded. But you know,
part of one of the things that makes Jared great is.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
That edge that he plays with.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
You know, I can remember it's the same things that
you know, Aaron and I used to talk about when
he was playing. And you know, you're always right on
that line of using the aggressiveness, that edge, you know,
the ability to be able to you know, use you know,
he likes to talk, and so you don't want to
take that away from him, but you want to make
sure that you're able to reset from one snap to
the next. We always talk about, you know, let's respond,

(06:10):
let's not react. And I like the way that he
finished practice the shadow program and he's just being able
to give back to these high school coaches.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
I'm not familiar with that.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
What do you think about what Josh party is on
the so far here, He's been good, you know, I
think Josh I thought he finished really strong.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
I'm I'm just super impressed with his mental resolve.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
I think there was some instances last year where you
could just see he just got better and better as
the year progressed.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
He's got a consistent process that he commits to.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
And I don't think you can take for granted the
rapport between him between Ethan and you know, in between
Alex and then that's a big deal as those guys
are continuing to grow together.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
But I really like where he's at.

Speaker 5 (06:52):
Look, obviously missed a lot of camp and then New Year,
he says, when Devonte came in and it was important for.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
Him to step back and let Levonte. Why what do
you see.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
In that leadership, in that relationship this early.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
Well, I think there's a great humility by Puca, you know,
always continuously try to learn, and I think that's consistent.
Davante is no different. You know, they're always trying to
move in the right direction. But Davante, similar to Cooper,
you know, as a bunch of experience. Puca was fortunate
enough to learn from Cooper in the first couple of
years of his career. And then when Davonte is so
willing to share, you know, he's got such an amazing

(07:25):
football acumen. Like I mentioned the other day, he sees
the game through the lens of a quarterback.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
There was a specific route the other day that Puka
did a great.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
Job of running, you know, and you ask him in
a team meeting, what were you thinking here? And he
gives reverence to Davante about a key tip that.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
He gave him to be able to execute it at
a high level.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
And when you have guys that are doing that for
each other, you know, that's special stuff. You guys hear
me talk about all the time. Football is the greatest
team sport that there is. And when you have teammates
that are pushing one another, when there's that mutual respect
that exists and that appropriate humility, a lot of good
things can follow.

Speaker 4 (07:57):
What else have you learned about Davonte that you didn't know?
You know, he's been around forever.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
You know, it's I think you're getting to know, you know,
the things that are important to him. His family, what
a great father, what a great husband he is. You know,
he's obviously he's picked up a real passion for golf
and he's pretty damn good at it. But he's he's
also pretty good at football and passionate about that. So
just a special human being. And obviously he's been a
great player, so excited to be able to partner up

(08:21):
with him.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
Brings that into the room too, though some of the
league he does.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Yeah, absolutely, you know, and that's just natural for who
he is, which.

Speaker 4 (08:27):
Is great coat Conan Williams, of Blake or just people
in the productivity.

Speaker 1 (08:33):
Yeah, they've been good.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
I think that running back room as a whole, Kiren
has been outstanding.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
I think he looks explosive.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
He's got this great energy that that everybody thrives off of.
But I think he's really understanding, you know, how to
really be able to set the example with his play,
with the way that he goes about his daily rhythm.
Been super impressed with him. And then I think, you know,
Blake's done a great job. You can see he's more
and more comfortable at the forearm injury at the end
of the year last year. But he has been great.
I think, uh, you know, he's one of those guys.

(09:00):
You know, what I think is really cool is whether
you're talking about a Jordan Winnington, a Blake Korum, a
Kaien Wims, you don't bet against these guys. These guys
are going to figure it out. They're mentally and physically
tough people. They're resilient. They've shown consistent instances of being
able to respond but also to stay humble through the
good times. And those are the kinds of guys we're
looking for you.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
Okay, bro, thank you guys.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
All right, So guys, well this is very temporary. Huh.
How's that room covering along?

Speaker 4 (09:31):
Man? Like just your own room and where you see
the development and obviously you're one of the new leaders.

Speaker 3 (09:37):
Now, yeah, I mean it's been real smooth so far. Man.

Speaker 5 (09:40):
We built a good foundation during the off season program
and had a lot of fun getting to know each other,
getting getting on the same page with the cues and
learn the offense together. And you know, me bringing in
my experience having been in this offense a few times
Raiders that last year, the Jets, Packers havn't you know,
I've been around it quite some times. So it's fun

(10:01):
seeing how every team kind of uses it differently, and
I think I've really been enjoying the way the Mastermind
has been able to kind of conduct some stuff over
there with the Masterminds, so a lot of a lot
of people involved, but it's.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
Just been fun.

Speaker 5 (10:12):
And like I said, the best part for me is
just getting the other guys and hanging out with him
every day.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
Obviously, you're just at the point of the year where
we're getting wraps and how what's the challenge when.

Speaker 1 (10:22):
Masters out here getting in quality of wraps?

Speaker 3 (10:25):
What's good?

Speaker 5 (10:25):
Obviously we on paper, you'd love to have everybody, you know,
be healthy, but that's just not the reality of how
football goes. And there's gonna be days where maybe I'm
not going or you know, somebody else isn't and you
just find ways to still make it work with the
communication in the in the in the room and uh,
the classroom work is a lot more vital than what
people realize as far as how much goes into it.
You know, we hear all day at training camp and

(10:46):
only on the field for a short time. So when
we get out there, the just the talks that we
have him watching, you know, comment on stuff even today
during during practice, whether it's something good or something you know,
the quarterback could have done differently.

Speaker 3 (10:58):
I could have done differently.

Speaker 5 (10:59):
So just that community makes for makes up for a
lot of lack of the you know, time and the
field that we get at this time.

Speaker 4 (11:04):
When BA goes to you and says he wants me
to lead the position with drills, just what was your
reactions about money? Let's hear without of respect from me.

Speaker 5 (11:13):
Well, I I laughed at it first, cause he was
he was like saying it, almost like he been wanting
to say it for a long time, but he he
didn't really know how to say that. And you know,
he was obviously trying to honor me, trying to honor him,
I guess, and making sure he didn't feel like I
was trying to step on his toes or anything, trying
to bump him. You know, the number two in the line,
and it's not important to me what number I am

(11:34):
in the line, So I just try to get out
there and uh, you know, we talked through a lot
of stuff and then I try to demonstrate it. So
I think it helps a little bit for me to
go first and him not have to run a slant,
catch the ball and then peek at me while I'm
you know, going to do it, so it makes sense
and and yeah, I love to lead every drift, just
having the most experience and a lot lot.

Speaker 3 (11:52):
To say about different ways that I do think.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
So I think you can help you hear about what
advice do you give to him to obviously looking to
you for a little.

Speaker 4 (11:58):
Bit of a mentor ship being shared with him recently
and camped at my people.

Speaker 5 (12:04):
I mean, it's not I'm not I'm not like just
this walking like all knowing like you know, I'm not
like a walking wise man where I'm just trying to
drop little you know, a little little trinkets on 'em
all day. But it's more like whenever it comes up
you watching something on tape and somebody, you know, they
run around maybe they didn't love or they didn't understand
how to get open versus certain coverage and me having
pl you know, seen a lot of doubles and you know,

(12:25):
different brackets and different things. I've had to look at
coverage differently than other people and kind of take a
deeper dive. And that part is actually like some of
the most enjoyable part of this thing for me, the
cerebral game. So me being able to talk through all
this stuff with him. I mean, it's it's always something
every day, uh, multiple times a day, but it's hard
to kind of think about it on the.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
Spot, John Talbot. This mutual respect that you guys have
to one another and just that kind.

Speaker 4 (12:47):
Of the organization and anything surprised you about apimating to
you the organization and also just about getting to know
people a little bit better.

Speaker 5 (12:55):
I guess it's by surprise, I mean surprising and in
good ways, like just not expecting things to be as
good as what they seem, and because that's often not
how it goes. It's usually not as sweet as well,
you know, everything that glitter and gold, but this is
looking pretty golden over here. And that doesn't, like I
said to Seine earlier, it doesn't guarantee us to go
and win a Super Bowl or win ten games or

(13:16):
one game. It just gives you opportunity when you have
the right people and the right mindset starting it off
to put you in a good spot. And I feel
it's a prerequisite to be able to be a championship
caliber team.

Speaker 4 (13:25):
Some of the younger guys have talked about you relating
to them that you're they're not.

Speaker 3 (13:31):
Just gonna learn from you. Yeah, you're gonna learn from
now a million percent.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
What what have you?

Speaker 3 (13:36):
You know, what do you draw from maybe some of
these younger guys.

Speaker 5 (13:39):
I mean, it's not as much of like you know,
they're gonna open their mouth and say something I haven't heard,
but you know, different techniques.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
Everybody's got the.

Speaker 5 (13:47):
Wheels always being reinvented, and uh, you know, you can
only do so much with certain routes. But I've seen
stuff from even Cannata since he's been out here, and
that's that's.

Speaker 3 (13:54):
Opened my eyes.

Speaker 5 (13:55):
Not necessarily like, oh my god, I've never seen that,
but it's you know, him him changed jet up his
pace and working through some things, seeing some of the
errors and the trial and error, I guess you could say,
and just watching, you know, even over the course of
three practice days, how he can transform and you know,
go and kill some of our our our better corners
on on some some amazing routs. So it's fun for

(14:16):
me just watching the growth of you know, talking through it,
seeing somebody fail, do you know, fail doing something a
certain way and then go out there and then knock
it out the park. Like I feel like a proud
dad watching him out.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
The Sean said that one of the things he enjoys
about practice Lackele days has been conversations with you.

Speaker 3 (14:32):
You're going to show the film.

Speaker 1 (14:33):
What do you take from those conversations.

Speaker 5 (14:35):
I value it every time. I mean, I'm it may
seem organic, but sometimes I'll seek it. I'll see him
over there and I'll go walk over and I just
know he gonna say something either funny or something that
you know, we can all grow from. He's just that
type of person, and it's become a really natural connection,
you know, between him and I. And it was something
that even the first time I saw him in the
building when I went to sign, it was like like

(14:58):
almost like a like a big exhal that we got
the opportunity to do it together. So I think at
this point we both just cherishing it and you know,
going day by day just enjoying the process.

Speaker 4 (15:07):
Think it's funny or fun Do you have more stories
at all you could tell us that we don't know about,
you know, like in the room or something how to
practice since you've been here, you gotta.

Speaker 3 (15:16):
Be something good. Yeah, the good stuff I won't say
on a.

Speaker 5 (15:21):
Can't hear those but sort of good stuff, to be honest,
the best stuff I can't.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
I can't, and it's not even like inappropriate.

Speaker 5 (15:33):
It's just that, you know, it's it's just just the
way this goes.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
It's better kept in in house. Sometimes, what's the last
of I have?

Speaker 1 (15:40):
What's the best question? On every one guys he's.

Speaker 5 (15:41):
Asked you, I will say probably something having to do
with with coverage, because they see me go and win
on a lot of choice routes, and in their mind
they're just thinking like it's like a superhero doing it,
when in fact it's really if I broke it down
to you the way I'm talking to I don't know
if you could go beat one of these guys, but

(16:02):
maybe one of these guys you can probably go and
and have a better chance at winning consistently. So I
just try to break it down to them. You know,
we have some of those some of those questions that
come up.

Speaker 3 (16:10):
And they ask me, you know, how are you winning?
What are you doing?

Speaker 5 (16:12):
And I just try to simplify and tell them that
a lot of times I just know what they're running.
So if you know what they're running and what their
job is, you can use that against them. To you know,
buy yourself more room, more time, more space, and that
equals more wins.

Speaker 3 (16:25):
Thanks. Thanks you U
