Speaker 1 (00:00):
The people that have been affected by the shooting at
NFL headquarters. You know, it's just such a terrible thing,
and you know, again you just you know, hope for
the best for any people that are injured.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
And then the people that did lose loved ones.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
You know, we're just thinking about them, and you know,
you hate to see stuff like that, you know, transitioning
into practice, you know, second day in Pads, I thought,
I thought the energy was excellent. I thought the competitiveness
on both sides was what we're hunting up. I think
our guys are really learning how to be able to
tow the line without while still being able to protect
one another. And you know, we'll look at the tape

(00:32):
and then you know, we'll have kind of a you
know above the next focus and concentration to tomorrow, and
then we'll finish up our second block on Thursday.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
But I really love.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
This group, like the way that all these guys you know,
are responding and are improving day to day, and that's
all we can ask.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
For at this point. Stuff for everyone.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
Today was a schedule rust day for.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Long, that's right, yep.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
So if you see him in any of those first
two days, you know, and we might fluctuate between the
first and the second, but then he'll be off on
the other one.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
So I'm seeing a lot more of Blake bar.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
Can you kind of fat your assessment employer's see.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
I think I think he's done a really good job,
you know, I thought he had some excellent runs today.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
I think he's had a really good camp.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
You know, he's he's one of those guys that, because
of how conscientious he is, he's just going to improve
into his second year, you know. And really, I think
ron Gould does such a great job with that room
as a whole. Like I've mentioned, Karen's done a great job.
I really love what we've seen from Blake and Jark
west Hunter, and you know, Ronnie Rivers is always a
guy that has been steady and really productive when he's
gotten his opportunities. And then I thought Putty Strader and

(01:30):
Jordan did a nice job with some of the opportunities
at the.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
End of practice.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
Tony like the energy level from the second.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Day of PAS and he does a certainly off season.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
They're not hitting, yep. What's it like when they put
the paths off on another day?

Speaker 1 (01:42):
Yeah, I think it's excellent. You know, and I think
we're learning how to be able to really push the envelope.
We've got a chance, you know, we've got a chance.
We're not there yet, but to be a physical group,
and that's what we.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
Want to be. I want to be mentally and physically tough.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
I think these are good opportunities to be able to
shape one another while still protecting each other in these
types of settings. And I've really been pleased with their
understanding of what that looks like to be able to
do that. And in these first couple of days, I
thought yesterday, I think the defense has had two really
good days. I thought the offense responded better. The caliber
of just competitiveness on both sides and just the quality

(02:14):
of football felt like it was a notch up. And
you know, that's what we're striving to do, to be
able to possibly push one another. It's not necessarily about
one of the drill, but it's are we having good
quality football snapping and snap out, minimizing some of the mistakes,
and playing with the techniques and fundamentals that we want.
And I thought today was a good step in the
right direction.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
You know what.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
I Forbes just felt his hamstring a little bit. I
don't have any sort of updates at him, and we
did one on ones in the red zone, so we
were being smart with him. He tried to take the
first team rep and you know, Aubrey and I were
on the same.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Page of hey, let's let's be smart with him.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Especially with a soft tissue, and then Cam I think
he got his ankle kind of stepped on. You know,
I'll have a little bit more information for you guys,
but Reggie seemed to, you know, feel like there could
be some positive things. But you know, I'll wait to
give you guys full updates until we.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
Kind of have a little bit more information as.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
Different.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
You know, at this point it is there.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
There is a plan in place, But what I don't
want to do, Sarah, is give you guys a date
and then, you know, if that does change, then there's
you know, assumptions that I could you know, imagine that
I would have if I was in your guys shoes.
That can lead you to think, oh man, something's really up.
So we are week to week with him. We do
have a plan in place. What I don't want to
do is set a timetable with you guys and then

(03:35):
for whatever reason as we're continuing to gain information that changes.
But what I can say is I feel really good
about this is the smartest plan for him, and we're
very confident that he'll be ready to roll against the Texans,
and you know.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
We'll take it a week at a time.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
You're being confious with a proof call in thistaf.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
Do you have a timeline lag?

Speaker 3 (03:53):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (03:53):
You know, I think they tried to do a couple
of things with Reggie and his group. Today wasn't exactly
where we had hoped right now, So I think this
thing will be when he has ready to go, and
then obviously we'll have our focus on some of those
first preseason games.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
But I think we were hoping that he would be
a little bit further along. He's a tough kid.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
Sometimes these muscle strains can be you know, tricky, and
you know that was that's kind of where we're at
right now. We're poche o goo.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
And what kind of impact do you feel from here? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (04:25):
And I think it's you can hear it, you can
feel it. He's uh, he's one of those guys. He's
got some natural leadership traits and characteristics, and I think
you're innately thrust into that when you play an inside
linebacker position.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
But he's just got a good feel.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
He's got great awareness, good understanding of how to be
able to positively uplift his teammates and challenge them in
the right way. I love, I love what this guy's about.
And you know, you saw there was a there was
a great play kind of in a short yarded situation
that Kim Kitchens did a great job of being able
to kind of spill the ball outside in Omar and
land Man in Unison ended up getting a knock back tackle.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
On a fourth and one.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
And he has consistent they've shown that type of stuff.
And I think you said, well, you hear him.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
Out here qu play Yeah something. Is that something that
you mean has done so much bring Yeah, But.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
Is that the part of the game that you guys
are looking there for him to maybe a picks band?

Speaker 1 (05:17):
Yeah, here's what I think here. I think you know
where those playoffs arise us to make those plays. And
he is one of those guys that seems like he's
in the right place at the right time. It's amazing
what he's been able to do in terms of being
able to play safety, be able to do some stuff
where he's playing in that that's sort that nipple corner
for us. And he is so invaluable and you know,
similar to Lambman, you know, some great.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Leadership trades and characteristics.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
I thought it was.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
Great for him to be able to get the hands
on that ball, expecting.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
Him to be able to make that play off of
those tips. But I've loved everything that he's about. And
you just all you see from from Quinton Lake is
him just continuing to get better bring.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
People with him. He is a ram and I love quo. Yeah,
we're excited about the run quicks from those Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
How are you doing about the defense is coming on.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
With s Yeah, I think it's been two good days.
You know, give Smith and Joe Coniglio and Andrew Wilkins,
they do an excellent job.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
And you know, when you guys sit here and talk
to Kobe, I think the best thing that comes off
is what a big picture understanding and awareness and in
this guy, what an impressive person he is first and foremost,
and then his ability to understand what's going on, understand
the intent of what we're trying to get done, always
willing to give credit to his teammates.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
The humility.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
You see why he's basically been a unanimous captain early
on in his career. He's a stud you know, and
he's he's one of those guys. He's a blue guy
for us. Really a lot of the people that you
guys are asking about today.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
But I love Kobe Turner.

Speaker 3 (06:42):
I love what he's about.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
He brings him consistency and an energy every single day,
you know, in his consistency in terms of his production
snapping and snap out, but also challenging his teammates the
right way.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
Love Covie Sean talking about jim.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
I'm talking about Jimmy. Obviously you have.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
Pumping into should you need to use them in the
regular season worth but at.

Speaker 4 (07:02):
This time of year, because of his experience, big game ability,
how is it helped.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
To have somebody like that as far as the insall
stuff pass.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
Yeah, and then also the evaluation of players around him
getting a.

Speaker 3 (07:14):
True read from the quarterback like that.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
Yeah, it's huge. And we've mentioned this before. You know,
there's nobody like Matthew. We know that, but to be
able to have somebody that has done all the things
that you're mentioned and going into year twelve, played in
big games, he's got a great demeanor in the huddle,
has the ability to be able to run our offense.
Now we're still able to evaluate the other ten around him,
and we're able to kind of continue on with the

(07:35):
installations where that hasn't always been the case with us
if we needed to be smart and rest Matthew. And
we'll certainly be really excited, you know, when we get
number nine back out here at leading the way for us.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
But in the meantime, I've been really pleased with Jimmy.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
I don't want to say that I'm surprised, but it
is a big factor for us to be able to
feel like we can be as patient as we need
to be for what's smart for Matthew. And then oh,
by the way, it's not a back to the team
at this time right now.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
Because of what Jimmy's able to do.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
But we'll be.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
Excited to not get FU the back here, but having
Jimmy is a big edge.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
Forsse are a great group. We thank you guys, a
fantastic group of people.

Speaker 4 (08:13):
I try to be our first thing I wanted to
say was, you know, thoughts and prayers to everybody in
New York.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
There was a very tragic situation that went.

Speaker 4 (08:21):
On us as an organization, us as a team, staff, coaches,
players included. You know, we're all sending our condolences and
you know, really our blessings and prayers out to them
in New York.

Speaker 3 (08:33):
I wanted to start off with them.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
Would have been your takeaways first two day of pats
for the defense.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
It's been fun.

Speaker 4 (08:40):
I think that's the biggest thing is you look at
a team, a really young group of defensive guys that
have been just building on the momentum that we really had.

Speaker 3 (08:48):
You could say, for the second half of the season.

Speaker 4 (08:50):
And there has been so much not only improvement, but
just you can see guys, like I said this earlier,
every guy in their own way could be a captain.
We just had the instead of just putting our best
for forward each and every day. But it's been it's
been fun watching these guys, especially up front wreck Havoc.
Secondary has been doing their thing, and then obviously, you know,
the linebackers have been great.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
So it's fun. It's gonna be a really, really, really
tough group to be.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
That's been your repression of land.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
Oh man, you know what's funny?

Speaker 4 (09:18):
I had so I went to the East West Shrine
Bowl with Nate and I kind of saw his ability there.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
Fantastic player.

Speaker 4 (09:25):
You know, it's I almost want to call him Peanut
punch Land man. You know, he has just a knack
for the ball. And you know, we see so many
clips he show Coach McVay shows him in the team
meeting room of him doing it at Atlanta, and then
you see it out here. You understand why he's able
to cause those turnovers.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
You practice it, he practices the right way.

Speaker 4 (09:43):
A great communicator, fantastic teammate, I mean, great addition for us,
and I can't wait to see what he's gonna do,
go and see before you know.

Speaker 2 (09:51):
He has some familiarity from his time in Atlanta.

Speaker 4 (09:54):
But just like him being able to put on the
green dot and out the way and tell you.

Speaker 3 (09:59):
About that, I mean, it takes a load of me.
That's that's a good thing.

Speaker 4 (10:01):
But you know, to be able to come and do that,
and it shows how much you know he's in the
place he's in where.

Speaker 3 (10:08):
He needs to be at the right time.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
But also it shows how much trust the coaching staff
puts on him to be able to lead the defense,
call the players and all that stuff.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
He's done an amazing job.

Speaker 4 (10:18):
So I know there was familiarity with him being in Atlanta,
you know, kind of same defensive scheme, but his transition
really has been flawless. And he's I mean, you guys
seen he's been making a ton of players, so he's been.

Speaker 3 (10:28):
Getting struggle on his background can lead he's way, I don't.

Speaker 4 (10:32):
Actually he's talked about it a little bit, but that
is honestly, it's really no first I'll say this, it's
really eye opening.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
And also about that too, is now you can say
football is everywhere.

Speaker 4 (10:44):
You know, football, you know, obviously the main area is
in the States, but you know, you have people now,
which is an amazing story. Him from being from Zimbabwe
coming over here obviously playing college ball and high schoot
ball out here. And I heard he's you know, he's
a West Coast kate too, which is awesome. I'm a
West Coast kid too, so shut out West Coast.

Speaker 3 (11:00):
But uh yeah, I.

Speaker 4 (11:03):
You know what I do want to ask him more about,
you know, his whole situation growing up there and all
that stuff.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
But it was cool, really cool, really really cool perspective him.

Speaker 4 (11:09):
Being from up Let's see that to you about the
way he's in the respect of all this new teammates
and just a short amount of time. Yeah, I mean,
it just goes to show how hard he practices. He does,
you know, Coach McVeigh talks about about it all the time.
He's a pros pro. He does things the right way
both on and off the field. He practices the right way,
communicates at an all pro level. So he's setting himself

(11:32):
up for a lot of success and he's gonna do
it this whole season.

Speaker 3 (11:34):
I truly believe that. How about you today he made
a play on a kickball. Yeah, that's part.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
As much as you've contributed to the defense, that seems.

Speaker 3 (11:44):
Like an area that you know you're hoping to capitalize
for sure. For sure, it's always good.

Speaker 4 (11:50):
You know, there's kind of this story is if you're
hustling to the ball or if you're in the right
place at the right time, something.

Speaker 3 (11:56):
Good will happen eventually. And that's exactly what happened there.
You know.

Speaker 4 (11:59):
Luckily we always say it tips and overthrows, you got
to have those, So that's what happened there.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
But yeah, you know, you don't press for interceptions or
force fumbles.

Speaker 4 (12:09):
Those are things that you practice. When it comes with
certain things, you can make calculated risk. When it comes
to force fumbles, sometimes that's just an effort thing eventually
if you're in the right place.

Speaker 3 (12:19):
Like I've talked about those things that happen.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
Yeah, what have you noticed this year about how the
run defensive has changed with the new additions?

Speaker 3 (12:26):
Anybody standing out? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (12:28):
Yeah, Poona ford Man, Poona, like I know Kobe talked
about it when he was on the pode as advertised.

Speaker 3 (12:35):
I'll say it again, as advertised. But great, great addition.

Speaker 4 (12:39):
You know, you just bring in guys not only to
fit the culture, but just have an elite ability to
do certain things. And Poona is just a force to
be reckoned with, you know, in the trenches. He's done
a great job of kind of messing with the defense.
You know, great personality, great teammate. But that was one
of the areas of emphasis from last year that we
wanted to focus on this year.

Speaker 3 (12:59):
How can we do better against the run?

Speaker 4 (13:01):
How can we be in different coverages or personnel groups
to be able to shut it down because as you
guys know, we have a great pass rus that's I mean,
anybody can see that. But how can we stop those
early downs so that we have more opportunities to.

Speaker 3 (13:17):
Rest the last year and bringing in guys like that
help us.

Speaker 1 (13:20):
Do that a lot. We're used to you lining up
all over the place where we see a lot of
you at Star this camp, Like, how do you kind
of view as.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
You know, it's still evolving to view your role of
the second day.

Speaker 3 (13:31):
Yeah, you know, very similar to last year.

Speaker 4 (13:34):
Ability to line up in different spots, whether that is
you know, back deep, whether that is in the box,
off the edge, blitzing man's own. At the end of
the day, I want to be as versatile as I can.
They know, it's nothing has really changed from last year.
We're still early in camp, so you know, the whole
defense and all that stuff. You know, we're kind of
making areas of emphasis for the day.

Speaker 3 (13:56):
Yeah, nothing, nothing too much has changed. And I know,
I how do you one am not right now? Anything
else you said? You seem to see you guys doings again.

Speaker 4 (14:08):
M hm.
