Speaker 1 (00:00):
Why would turns out to the little ground.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Do you expect Matthew to practice tomorrow?

Speaker 1 (00:06):
I don't think so.

Speaker 3 (00:07):
You know, it would be week to week, but probably not.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
At one point during the league. And you guys just
evaluate him to see when don't.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Getting ready week to week.

Speaker 3 (00:16):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
I wish I could help you out more with that.
Kobe Turners, well, his back's bothering him a.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
Little bit, so we're gonna be smart with him.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Okay, see you guys later.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
I looked like Kierre Thomas was having some success drop
it in the house where Twitter to.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
See him from a year.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
You know, he's done a really good job and it's
not exclusive to the coverage. That was a great play
that he made. But Kier's had a really good camp.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
You know.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
I think Joe does such a great job with that,
with really that whole outside linebacker room. But it really
pleased with all of them. They're all continuing to show improvement.
But you know, Kier has been a guy that's been
with us for a long time. He's getting better and better.
I think he really makes his presence felt on some
of the early downs. But that was awesome, and I
think what's really cool is you see how excited his
teammates get for him when he makes plays like dad

(01:00):
and you know he's a.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
Ram through and through. Really like what he's doing.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
Looking back to your first year, as if you've coached,
were there any times where you felt mentally just overloaded?
And if so, I'd kind of come out you know,
I probably didn't even know what I didn't know then.
So I think what I've always felt really fortunate about
Sarah's I've been surrounded by great people. I can really remember,
you know, having Wade Phillips as a defensive coordinator, and
when you're a young head coach, you know, I think

(01:25):
sometimes you think you feel like you have to have
all the answers, and you know, he helped me realize
that no, there's there's real strength and saying I don't
know the answer, but I'll.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Figure it out, or leaning on the people around you.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
Where you got Wade Phillips, you know, you had John Fossil,
you know, guys like Aaron Cromer.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
We had a lot of really great coaches. Matt la
Fleur was on that staff, Zach Taylor, Shane Waldron.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
You know, so we've I've been really fortunate to be
surrounded by really good people, you know. And I think
the cool thing about it is is, you know, when
it was that early, you had that unobstructed mind.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
You know, you didn't know what to worry about.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
I oftentimes am reminded of, you know, never forgetting that
this is truly a blessed and you know, in those
moments and it was a blur, but I don't I
don't think that, you know, I felt like I was,
you know, hindered by stuff.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
But it was a pretty smooth journey.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
And you know, I think the cool thing when I
reflect back on those early years is you are totally
and completely present. You know, you're trying to bring the
right authentic energy and vibe and pouring into people. And
you know, that's what we're going to continuously try to
do going into year nine.

Speaker 4 (02:24):
With Liam as a person as coach, Is there any
advice you give him with und mental aspect of navigating
this year? Oh?

Speaker 3 (02:30):
Yeah, I think, you know, it's just you know, Liam
and I talk a lot, and I think it's about
leaning on the people around you and don't feel like
you have to have all the answers, you know, make
sure that you know you do a great job of
being able.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
To delegate to the great people that you've surrounded yourself with.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
Liam knows way more than I knew when I first
got the job, So he's way ahead of the curve,
like all these other guys that are getting their opportunities
to go do their things.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
So they won't make the same mistakes I did.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Labor.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Yeah, I think he felt a little bit of a calf.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
We were just being smart with him, you know, I felt,
you know, air on the side of caution.

Speaker 5 (03:03):
That's kind of what they had communicated to me and
Ban not a upfield.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
Yeah, seems like making a big impression.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
Yeah, what's your kind of assist. He's doing a great job.
You know. I think you're right. You know, you see
him making a lot of plays.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
Uh, he's a mature rookie, you know, he's a guy
that is wired to be able to separate. I think
he's catching the football really well. He's really smart and conscientious.
You know, he's moving around, can do a lot of
different things. But you're right, he's one of the guys
that has really shined, you know, with some of those
younger guys, and he continues to be able to you know, just.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
Answer the bell with the opportunities that he's gotten.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
And I think Stets since then a nice job being
able to get the football to him, but been really
pleased with him. He is us he's doing a heck
of a job.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
What's uh, what are you seeing in Nate Shiel has
and what does he bring.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
To the table for the offense? And yeah, you know
he's he's a great coach. You know, he's got a
big picture perspective. He's got a great ability to be
able to connect with the players. You know, he's a
he's a rare communicator as high emotional intelligence.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
He really works at it.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
You know, I think Nate's one of those guys, like
like a good amount of the coaches that we do
have is they take a role in the responsibility and
then they redefine it for whoever comes into that role
whenever he gets a chance to continue to elevate himself.
But in a short amount of time, he has made
himself incredibly valuable. He's got a great humility about himself too.
And you know, you see why he had all the
success at his previous stops, and you know why people

(04:20):
were trying to come get him this year, but we're
fortunate to be able to have him and we'll cherish it.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
If it's for one more year hopefully.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
A couple more Net talked about wanting zat post that's
already to the France back in January.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
The type of optionality does play a death gets.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
Tight on the Yeah, that's big, Adam. You know, I
think they're excited about you though. I think.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
You guys heard he's coming out of retirement. You know
what I think what it does is it gives us
the ability to be able to mix personnels, you know,
and and ultimately it's how do we bring it to life?
What does that really look like? But I feel like,
you know, we've got a really deep tight end room.
Scooter Huff has done an excellent job, but Tyler Higbee
leading the way. I think Kobe Parkerson and Davis Allen
I've been outstanding. And I've really been pleased with Terrence Ferguson.

(05:04):
It's unfortunately he got a little bit of a groin.
Don't know how long he'll be out for, you know,
but we are going to be smart, you know. And
you can see at this point when you get into
that third block, you know, some of those things can
kind of you know, wear on you, or you're getting
some guys with some soft tissue stuff, and so we
do want to be smart with him, but that gives
us a real chance to be versatile. And you know,

(05:24):
we got some depth a running back that you feel
good about. And then you know, you know Gary asked
earlier about cannate. You know, I think Xavier Smith's another guy,
and you know Jordan Winnington continues to take steps and
then we know those top three guys, So feel really
good about that. And you know, if you're looking at
a positive like I mentioned, can't wait to be able
to get Matthew back out here leading the way. And
I know he's chomping at the bit as well. But

(05:45):
in the meantime, Stetson and Jimmy are doing a really
good job of continuing to get better and use these
reps for their benefits.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
A couple hear, how on the guys is what you
do observed?

Speaker 1 (05:55):
Yeah, I mean, you know, his impact is instrumental.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
You know, we're able to use him when you're referencing
all the things that we want to be about, what
he's been, what he represents as a man.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
You know, how he went about.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
It the right way, with his work ethic, the way
that he enjoyed competing, the mindset he had, the energy
that he brought every single day. So he epitomizes everything
and then he still stays connected.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
I mean he is.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
He's really special to me, He's really special to this place,
and his impact is is so significant and so when
he comes around it sure means a lot. And you
know when when he speaks, guys should certainly listen.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
Mister Sean with Stafford, Yeah, is there any way you've.

Speaker 5 (06:33):
Given how he's not practice that he would participate in
joint practices.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
With like the Cowboys or the Charger Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
Know, you know the Cowboys, I would say that's that's
less than likely with the Chargers.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
You know what.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
I I know I'm probably irritating you guys, but it
truly is a week to week thing, and what I
don't want to do is set a timeline. I know
he's making good progress. You know, saw doctor Hawkins again today.
Everything is in good shape. But to answer your question, Gary,
the Cowboys.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Is is a no. And then you know we'll see
about the Chargers.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
Doctor Watkins.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
He saw at the end of the twenty two season final.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
You know, I don't know that. Yeah, you have to
ask Reggie this. It alway an't expressed last night though.

Speaker 5 (07:18):
Okay, see you guys, all right, I'm just kidding.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
What do you think about the lay of the offense?
Is develop up Moss time?

Speaker 4 (07:27):
Yeah, I mean coming out here working on some stuff
that we're doing and uh no, good days always always
always coming back to work, you know what I mean.
Is never as good and never as bad as you think.
And then, uh what's got mid stacking some good days?

Speaker 2 (07:40):
How's how's it.

Speaker 5 (07:41):
Feel to be able to be out here.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
Participating, you know, compared with where you were last year?

Speaker 4 (07:46):
That's great. It's always gives you a different perspective when
you're not out there and being able to do what
you love and uh so it's cool. I'm happy to
be a part of it. Training camp is always always
hard work, but just being able to be a part
of it, It's a guess he didn't perspective this year,
you know what I mean? Enjoy the word so.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
And the role with four tight ends here now right?
More right, what where do you see your role? I
mean aside from.

Speaker 4 (08:13):
Yeah, I mean this is this is this is probably
the deepest room I've been a part of since I've
been here. A lot of guys who can play a
top the bottom. So yeah, just trying to be a
leader mentor for those guys and pass on. I've seen
a lot of ball play, a lot of snaps, So
try to pass on all the knowledge I can and uh,
keep compete with those guys.

Speaker 5 (08:29):
You know, what have you seen from I know he
didn't practice today, but from Karns.

Speaker 4 (08:34):
Yeah, he's you know, show us the flash is really
good stuff, you know what I mean. He's uh, he's
gonna be a great ballplayer, and uh get him, get
him out here and doing a day and day out,
you know what I mean. So it's been it's been
special to have him and a great dude and we're excited.

Speaker 3 (08:47):
How would you describe his What is like in the minute?

Speaker 1 (08:50):
He's great.

Speaker 4 (08:51):
You know, he's intentive, he's willing, he's you know, willing
wants to learn orcept him to a lot of things.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
Yeah, felt full presence back at center. Say it again,
how have you called Presiden?

Speaker 4 (09:03):
Yeah, I mean he's he's he's a he's a special player.
We missed him a little bit last year. You know
what I mean his ability to communicate and second to
none that have been around, you know, really athletic center
that can do a lot of things for us that
we try to that we want to get done. And uh,
you know, we're lucky to have him back. I'm happy
to have him back.

Speaker 5 (09:19):
You after mentioned that just the Grinder training camp and
how how big of the challenge it is, what brings
you with since a joy doing training team?

Speaker 4 (09:27):
I mean, this is just a being around the guys,
you know, like being around his team. You got a
special team. And then two, it's it's it's it's a game.
We all grew up love you know, love him. He's
a game. So the opportunity to play it, especially at
this level and then get paid for it, it's special.
And that's when them dog days is when you got
to kind of separate yourself individually and as a team,

(09:51):
just coming back to work, getting the opportunity to work
playing football.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
What makes a team special.

Speaker 4 (09:55):
We gotta it's a it's a tight team, you know
what I mean. At this level, you guys got family.
It's not as you know, not as a tight unit
as like a high school or maybe a college may be.
We got some of the kind of feels around here,
you know what I mean, A lot of guys who
willing to play for each other, not just for the
name on their back. You know, it's pretty cool.

Speaker 5 (10:13):
Sean said that before they drafted Terrence, he called you
to tell you we're gonna take this guy.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
What do you remember about that calling? What did you say?

Speaker 4 (10:21):
Yeah? I mean I remember him calling me and tell
me they were gonna take a tight end, I mean,
a testament to him like he he's not not something
he needs to do. But it was awesome, you know,
cool that he called me let me know, and you know,
I just told him I'm mentor the kid. Do the
best I can, you know what I mean, and go compete,
you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
So when did you first talk to Terrence and what
was your message to him.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
When you back, Uh?

Speaker 4 (10:44):
I think I reached out. I think maybe UH reached
out get his phone number and just shot him at text.
I don't know if he needed anything from me here
for him.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
So do you feel like in this year of your
career that your role has changed and shifted the goal
with the kind of the new schematic things that are
being put on the plane?

Speaker 3 (11:03):
H Yeah, I mean a little bit.

Speaker 4 (11:05):
I mean I've been the oldest guy in the tight
end runs in my second year, you know, so I've
been kind of that old head I guess you want
to call it in the tight end room for for
some years. But yeah, you know, I just got a
our tight end room. We we can uh, we can
bring the juice every day. It's like it's it's part
of our role, you know. I mean the astralus, there's
the drink. So when it's flat, we need to be there.

(11:28):
You know, when it's not rolling right, we need to
be there. When it is going right, we need to
be right there also, you know what I mean. So
just trying to do a little bit of everything and
help this team go and win win football game.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
That's that's what we're here for.

Speaker 5 (11:38):
You know, you feel like you're all you know, maybe
you came back at the end of last season, right
but contribute. But now with the offseason program in here,
do you feel like you're all the way back the board?

Speaker 4 (11:49):
Yeah, I mean I feel pretty good. I mean it's
it's obviously training camp. You know, you can't replicate playing football,
so getting out here it's always shaking off some some
rust and stuff, you know, getting back into into playing
shape and you know, techniques that you know, you just
don't necessarily it's hard to rep with three football again.
So yeah, you know, having a healthy offseason was was
really good. I feel great and uh yeah, it's about

(12:11):
you know, getting out here and working and getting some
of the technique, fundamental stuff like that just to where
a second nature, you know. So thanks, thank you guys.
