Speaker 1 (00:00):
You know, I thought it was really good to be
able to see so many guys get involved, like the
way we started out, and then I like the way
we finished the game, being able to run the football
the way that the guys did. I thought Stetson had
great command. I thought our defense made plays early. I
liked the way that Josiah Stewart was able to get
to the quarterback. What a great play by Cam Lampkin.
Thought the coaches did a great job being able to
get those guys ready to go. Greg Williams, awesome job
(00:22):
on the defense calling the game tonight. I thought the
communication from the coaches to the players was on display.
Thought Mike did a great job being able to mix
it offensively, working in collaboration with the coaches. And you know,
Chasing Ben had the special teams ready to go, so
a lot of cool stuff. I thought our runners ran
really hard. They leveled their pads off, you know, Blake job.
It was awesome to see Cody Schrader when we ended
(00:43):
up really being able to get off a couple of
chunk runs in a row right there, and he was
seeing the ball, he was seeing the field really well.
And I thought our guys were getting good removal, and
I thought Stetson did an excellent job being able to
distribute the field, you know, solve things well. I thought
we got in and out of the huddle, and so
I'm really happy for a lot of guys making plays tonight.
And it was cool to see how excited their teammates
(01:04):
were for him as well.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Well was your takeaway from Matthew's roaring on the screen?
It was awesome. He looked good. He threw the ball
really well.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
There was no limitations in terms of the types of
throws deep, intermediate, short, We were moving the launch point
and you know, he felt really good, and so we're
looking forward to progressing him back into practice on Monday.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
But it was a good step in the right direction.
Coach still feeling pain or discomfort in his back. I
don't know, you know, that's something that you'd have to
talk to him about.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Sorry, that's okay.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
Just how many passes did he did he throw?
Speaker 2 (01:34):
Did you guys have charted?
Speaker 1 (01:36):
You know, what what would you guess carry? I don't know,
you know, he got around sixty years, you know, sixty to.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
Maybe I think it was sixty eight throws is what
I would think, you know, how's that. I love you man.
That was sixty plus though. Okay, yeah, thank you.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
Coach. What was your impression of the wide receivers.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
I thought they did a great job, you know, I
you know, I think Coach Yards, Nate Shieldhouse, Rob Calbarys,
they do so such a good job of, you know,
getting these guys ready to go. I love the catch
that Mumpfield make before we brought him out, you know,
on the tip ball and the scene. It was a
great throw, great play by him. I thought Brendan Presley
made some plays. Thought guy's blocked.
Speaker 5 (02:12):
You know.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
It was cool to see Covey catch the corner route.
Speaker 5 (02:16):
You know.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
So I was really pleased with the receivers over all.
They did nice shouting go.
Speaker 6 (02:19):
Talk about about you talked about stretch of been as
Qus just his naturation sure the course of time, and
you guys good in that chemistry and really learned it
with some of the things that you called that you're
talking with him about to get him to this point
that really you felt really stuck with him.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
You know, I wouldn't say anything for me other than
just the consistency of how he's approached each day.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
I give Dave going a ton of credit.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
You know, their relationship is pretty special, and Dave does
a great job of being able to develop really special
relationships with all of his quarterbacks, you know, from the
time he's been coaching him. I think there's a really
cool rapport that those guys have with each other because Dave,
having played the position, really understands it from you know,
a player and a coaching lens, and you know, it's
not a mistake why guys play their best, you know,
when he's leading the way for that room. But Stetson
(03:02):
was awesome, and really I think the amount of reps
that he's able to you know that he's been able
to get whether you go through the spring or really
especially in training camp. If there is one positive from
you know, Matthew not being there, it's that both Jimmy
and Stetson have been able to get some reps. Now
we're really glad that Matthew's going to be back doing
his thing, But the overall command, I thought he got
through some progressions really well today. You know, he hit
Drake Stoops on the backside and cut seeing the field
(03:26):
really well, you know, even just being able to hit
Brendan pressing on that corner on the keeper down in
the tight red area, did a great job of executing
on the third and one, hitting the little you know,
skate route off the boots. So he was awesome and
I loved how he responded after. It was a hell
of a pick that they made when we tried to
push the ball down the field. But he was awesome
and he was totally present and love what I saw
(03:47):
from him.
Speaker 7 (03:47):
Coach, you mentioned a removal along the office of line. Yeah,
there are two guys in particular that I want to
ask about, Bowlimmer and Justin ded Yep. The versatility and
depth that they bring to the office of line. What
did you see from them? And then conversity. Chris Paul
Junior was really flying to the ball. Ye talk to
me about his game as well.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
Yeah, so I think the first part of your question.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
I think Justin and Bo did an excellent job and
being able to both play center and guard spots. Ryan
Lindell does a great job being able to move them around.
These are guys that played a lot of valuable snaps
for US last year and they're going into their second year.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
You've seen growth, You've seen maturation.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
Both these guys have a physical style of their play
and a toughness. They're smart players that understand leverage and angles.
So I thought they were keen and critical factors today
with a lot of.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
Good things that we were able to do.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
And Ryan's leadership has been outstanding as well as Zach Kromer,
Brian Allen and coach Munchek when he's been around, and
so that's been awesome to see those guys.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
And then it's been.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Great to get Poo back out there. He's a run
and hit type of guy. I thought you felt his presence,
you felt his range out there. He missed a little
bit of time with a soft tissue injury, but it
was awesome to be able to get him going today.
And you know, he's got a good game day demeanor.
I was pleased with what I saw from him.
Speaker 8 (04:57):
What did you guys see that that's kicking kat Leviston
outs left tackle?
Speaker 2 (05:02):
In terms of just him in general.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Really, you know, we kind of bounced them back and
forth between guard and tackle just based on the nature
of some depth and some of the numbers that we
have felt like that was going to be the best
opportunity to be able to allow him to have a
successful outcome, and it looked like he did some really
good things there at him, but it was really you know,
we've kind of been moving and matching guys around, but
all right, let's start to see if if tackle is
one of those spots.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
He is a guy that can play guard.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
But just based on kind of the totality of what
that room looks like right now, Matthew.
Speaker 5 (05:29):
Be able to take part in team drills on.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
Monday or it'll just be individual on Monday with him,
and unfortunately we'll have to cancel that practice with the
with the Chargers, I think they're a little bit banged up.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
Talk to coach Harball and you know, so bummer that.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
They're you know that we weren't able to be able
to get that done, but I totally understand, and you know,
we'll figure out a way to get great work against ourselves.
It looked like Josh Waws was playing a little safety today.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
Is something that you were just trying out.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
Or Josh is so versatile, you know what I mean?
You look at it and Josh he played corner, he
played star. I'll come to you, Gary, I'll make sure
I get your question. But Josh is really versatile He's
got a lot of ability to be able to play
in a lot of spots, and because of the way
that our secondary is shaped where we've got some safeties.
When you look at Tank can play dime, you look
(06:17):
at Quentin Lake can play the nickel position, and so
Josh's versatility is really valuable. I don't know if I
had it on my Bengo card of him, you know,
slamming somebody and then standing over him. I don't think
he meant to be able to do that, but I
love the way that he played, and then we'll.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
Learn from that. But Josh is all about the right
kind of stuff.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
He's a ram through and through, and he exclusively played
safety tonight and I thought he did a really nice job.
Coach Beek and Aubrey, Mike Harris, those guys do a
great job with that back end as a whole.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
Go ahead, Gary, sixty eight balls, my.
Speaker 8 (06:47):
Colleague, what'd you make of Dark West hunter is eleven
yard game over the third quarter?
Speaker 7 (06:53):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (06:53):
I thought he really just ran well overall you're talking
about on the third and sixth run. Yeah, that was
a great run. I thought it was great removal that
we able to create. But you know, you guys can
see and we've mentioned in the practice settings, he's got
a great body lean that he runs with and he's
falling forward. He's getting guys where you know, when they're
trying to be able to get those knock back tackles.
He's knocking guys back and finishing forward where what might
be a four yard run ends up being an eight
(07:15):
yard or a seven yard run. And that's been in
alignment with what he showed at Auburn. He's really picked
up where he left off from Auburn with us. And
I thought tonight was a really positive one. I thought
that was a.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
Great call by Mike on third and six as well.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
It was your thoughts on Exebers that's guy.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
Yeah, I thought Exavier did a great job. You know,
he's just getting better and better. And you look at
going back to his first opportunity in a real game
to return a punt last year, ends up flipping the
field and making a play that you know, we had
to have to be able to win our first game
last year, and he just continued to grow as a receiver.
He's got so many things that he can bring to
the table, but he's a punt returner he's a guy
that can play gunner for us.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
I thought that was a huge fourth down catch that
he made.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
You know, you talk about a trust thrower where Stetson
ends up sending that down the field on a fourth
and six, he comes away with it, and so x
Man has done an awesome job. I'm happy for him,
want to just see him continue to grow and it's
really cool to feel that's pretty.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
Consistent theme with a lot of the guys from tonight.
Speaker 5 (08:09):
So, Stetsan, how are you? How are you different now
than you were a year ago at this time?
Speaker 3 (08:12):
Where do you learn? I think just more mature, more.
Speaker 9 (08:16):
Comfortable in the system, you know, tighter with the guys.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
You know, Yeah, I think I'll have.
Speaker 6 (08:25):
What's some of the advice that you resonated with you
as far as day were gone, as far as building
that chemistry and also with some of the things that
you remember from Coach carving Spark when you were there,
as far as it helps you where you are right now.
Speaker 9 (08:38):
Well, I think the most most thing with the Rags
is just day after day we're just doing the same thing.
Just you know, continue to grind, you know, don't get
bored with the basics and then that goes back to Kirby,
which is just chopping day after day and you know,
just keep working and if it's not as good as
(08:58):
you want it to, then you know the gonna be
abs and flows, and just keep on going.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
What expectations did you have for yourself today?
Speaker 3 (09:05):
Just plays play is as it is. You spreads the
ball around quite a bit.
Speaker 6 (09:10):
In the first you hit a bunch of receivers and
Sean just praised you for going through your progressions and
those two things related and how does that reflect your maturity?
Speaker 9 (09:17):
And yeah, I think I've kind of always been that
that way, just spreading it around, and yeah, I just trust,
trust my reason and just go through it. I think
sometimes I went through it a little bit too fast,
you know, and we'll go back and watch the film
and see that.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
But yeah, I think it's just being more comfortable with
the system.
Speaker 6 (09:36):
You know.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
Yeah, that's when we saw you connecting a lot with
lake Horn tonight. Can you just talk about that working
out with him and performing.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
Yeah, I mean he's a stud.
Speaker 9 (09:44):
He runs hard, and you know, we'd like to get
good football players ball and let him go work. You know.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
I try to just get the ball in my hand
and to those guys.
Speaker 2 (09:55):
So how do you think you played? How did you
evaluate through performance?
Speaker 3 (09:58):
I thought I played pretty well. Yeah, I thought I
thought I played pretty well. We'll go see some stuff.
Speaker 6 (10:06):
You know.
Speaker 9 (10:06):
I was glad that he didn't try to force it on,
you know, two throwaways sometimes you got you gotta throw
the ball away and and uh in the in the
drive of the kick a hunt sometimes or Yeah, I
thought I parayed pretty well. But obviously there's gonna be
things to sing up.
Speaker 8 (10:22):
I know you mentioned being closer with the guys. What's
it like having a guy like Matthew Stafford.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
Who obviously is another georgy guy in.
Speaker 8 (10:27):
The locker room and just kind of help you use
him as a mentor over these last few years.
Speaker 9 (10:31):
Yeah, I think, I mean, I don't think there could
be a better guy in the room than Matthew.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
You know, a guy who's seeing it all, been.
Speaker 9 (10:39):
Through it all highs and lows, and just the way
he goes out and handles each day. You know, people
throw it around it. He's a total pro. But you know,
I mean nine's nine, and uh, you know I learned.
I try to learn as much from him and just
apply the best I can and.
Speaker 8 (10:54):
I know, going back to your journey, like you say
you met path to just being a walk on and
now being able to be on the rams.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
I mean, what did you kind of learn about your
own journey and how.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
He's gonna be into this. Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 9 (11:11):
Just treat each day as as it is and like
I said, like it's not gonna be a straight up
hill climb, like.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
It's gonna go.
Speaker 9 (11:18):
It's gonna zig and it's gonna zag and it's gonna
be out and flows again. And uh just keep you know,
uh trusting process.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
And chopping wood just a little bit on the mental
resilience of this team that was definitely uh ego from
last season.
Speaker 8 (11:33):
Can you speak to I mean, you know, Hiren just
coming off his uh his extension and what he went
through his rookie year.
Speaker 7 (11:40):
When the coach has talked a lot about this team's
us sort of mental fortitude.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
Do you feel that as well in the locker room?
Speaker 9 (11:46):
Yeah, thou und percent, I think, like you said, like
ending out the way we did last year, uh even
even the way it started, I don't know, I think
this this team's tough as nails and uh yeah, I'm
excited to get back to work on Monday and and
just keep keep going at it.
Speaker 4 (12:01):
How you adjusted anything about the way that you deliver
the ball or as your progression really just been all
on the mental side of the game.
Speaker 9 (12:08):
I mean, I don't know, you're always working as a quarterback,
always kind of trying to fiddle how you throw it,
how you grip it. So yeah, it's probably changed a
little bit.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
And that's just reps and reps and reps.
Speaker 4 (12:22):
So it seemed like if I have this quick, like
before you threw the fourth down pass to Xavier, that
third down you just kind of I don't know if
you just dumped it or whatever. It was like short,
but then you got the opportunity on fourth down. Can
you kind of just take us through mentally how you
go from not getting the third down and being ready
to deliver on fourth.
Speaker 9 (12:43):
Yeah, I think it's just the next play. That play
doesn't matter anymore. You know, we wish we would hit it,
and we'll go back and we'll talk about it and
we'll do better next time.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
But yeah, now we gotta go get it first down
on fourth.
Speaker 7 (12:57):
Down because on fork, Now was that a confident builder
completely the pass?
Speaker 3 (13:05):
So yeah, it was yeah, for sure, and that what
a heck of a catch. I mean tough.
Speaker 9 (13:11):
I just you know, he can roll and ex is
the man, you know, he gets to work every day.
It's another guy you want to talk about, you know,
just chopping wood and going at it every single day.
But yeah, I mean, for sure, a huge instead of
having to you know, give the ball up from midfield,
going down there and going a touchdown, there's.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
A huge momentum buildings.
Speaker 5 (13:28):
That's on Most quarterbacks, especially quarterbacks talk about coming out
of college and how the game speeds up.
Speaker 3 (13:34):
How much of that is.
Speaker 5 (13:36):
A reality for you, and as it's slowing down in
that the way you actually feel it, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
I'd say, you know, yeah, for sure, it's fast.
Speaker 9 (13:46):
You know, I was blessed going at Georgia going against
you know, I mean stuff.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
You see what they're doing now.
Speaker 9 (13:52):
I mean just absolute animals, and so I think that
helped going into it, and then again just reps and
reps with eggs and these guys just you know, building
it day in day out, for sure, just slowing down
a little bit and become more comfortable.
Speaker 4 (14:07):
A few years ago, you were a rookie playing in
your first preseason game. What did you see from dar
Quez one hundred tonight in terms of countenance and performance?
Speaker 9 (14:16):
Yeah, tough season. Well, I mean I'm trying to carry
out my fake. I'm sure there was a few that
I didn't carry out my fake.
Speaker 3 (14:21):
I'm gonna hear. Uh, but uh, you know, as I
get to carry out my fake. But uh, yeah, I
mean hard nose.
Speaker 9 (14:29):
I think all of our guys ran hard today and
carried it well and saw it well.
