Speaker 1 (00:00):
You've you've spoken about how much fun you've had with
this team this year. What was it like to have
the guys chant MVP for you in the locker room?

Speaker 2 (00:08):
That was cool?

Speaker 3 (00:09):
You know, I hope they all know that they're a
huge part of it. I think they do, so I
appreciate it. But couldn't do what I do without all
those guys. And I know that they know that, and
I feel that way.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
So it was cool.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
A lot of football to be played, you know, still
so just enjoying all the moments. Great group of guys
who all care for each other, which is a lot
of fun.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
It's like about how much teams change from your year.
What is it about this group of guys that you've
been having so much fun?

Speaker 4 (00:35):
Money?

Speaker 3 (00:36):
I just think the way we you know, we all
pull for each other. We pull for each other's success,
whether that's you know, on the offensive side of the
ball for all the guys to have success, for defensive
side of the ball for those guys. And then also
you see it both ways, right like land Man gets
to pick everybody's fired up, we score a touchdown, defenses
fired up. It's just, uh, it's a group of guys
to understand what it takes. And that's not just on Sundays.

(00:56):
It's day in and day out around here. Care for
each other and know what the work looks like to
go out there.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
And be successful.

Speaker 4 (01:02):
Matthew, I know you need a lot of like playmakers
around you to be able to be in this position,
But what would it mean for you to win MVP?

Speaker 3 (01:10):
Well, I don't want to speak in too many hypotheticals
to be honest with you, but I just.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
I am a.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
You know, fan of this game, have been for a
long time, and so anytime you get honored for whatever
award in any kind of way, in whatever position in
this league, it's something that I don't take for granted.
So just to be in the conversation is something that's
tumbling to me knowing the people that have played this
game before me and the guys that have helped me
get to where I am.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
And this is just going to be your fourth time
facing Detroit since you came here to LA. Is there
a point when it's just like the Lions do turn
into just another team?

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:45):
I mean I feel that way. I know, I know
there I got a ton of respect for him. You know,
I've flipped the tape on. I don't think about all
the guys that I used to play with because hardly
any of them are still playing on the team, you know.
So you know, the biggest thing for me is watching
them play and they jump off the tape. They're fast,
they're physical, they're really well coached, you know, and they
got playmakers on offense, they got playmakers on defense, or

(02:06):
really sound in the special teams department as well. So
it's a really good, complete football team that's been really
good for the last couple of years. So it'll be
another challenge for us.

Speaker 5 (02:14):
Because of what you and your wife did in the
charity in that region.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
Do you hear from them this week?

Speaker 3 (02:21):
Yeah, I'm actually I should be on a I think
I'm gonna call with Mitch album tomorrow for his radiothon.
I've done it for however many years straight now, so
I'm gonna hop on a call and try to help
raise some money for the city tomorrow as well. But yeah,
I mean we still try to say someone involved. We
have friends there that are there, and yeah, we hear
from some people, you know, whether it was you know,

(02:43):
things we did at Christmas time or or even through
the safe play center now and we hear from people, Yep.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
We'll see whom gonna make those acromatic clap catches as
one thing you see, and make these clutch catches.

Speaker 5 (02:53):
That's together when he's thirty yards townfield looking for contact,
to get more of the physicality.

Speaker 6 (02:58):
That he brieves.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
What do you get from the Yeah, I think he
brings a ton of energy to our team.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
But he plays the game the way we all want to,
you know, with just passion and energy and toughness, and
that's you guys see it, and you know it's it's
highlighted on all the on the shows and everything when
he catches it, but shoot, we see it behind the
scenes when he's not even involved in the play per
se with the football. Just the way he blocks, the
way he throws his body around. You know, he's a

(03:24):
he's a great player for us. He's a tone center
for us, and and uh, luckily we have a bunch
of those guys, so it's it's a lot of fun.

Speaker 7 (03:30):
It seems like Warren McClendon has stepped up big and
since just what have you seen from him in his
growth this year?

Speaker 3 (03:36):
Yeah, I think it's been pretty steady since he's been here.
To be honest with you, I thought he's had a
great approach since he'd been here, just kind of putting
his head down, going to work. That's his attitude anyways,
kind of his personality. You know, it came from a
great program, so he knew.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
What he was doing. But uh, he's Uh, he's been
really good.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
And I'm happy for him and proud of him because
I know it hasn't just happened for no reason. It's
happened because of the work that he's put in behind
the scenes.

Speaker 8 (04:00):
We're coming out of the drops, are coming into the
drop pretty apparent that you were going to be the
number one pick. What do you remember about the height
or being in that position? Uh?

Speaker 3 (04:10):
I remember about fifty percent of the fans in Detroit
not wanting me to go there, So I remember wanting
Aaron Curry or Jason Smith.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Now I don't know.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
I didn't pay too much attention to it, to be
honest with you, I just wanted a chance to play
and get in and I obviously got that chance and
have been, uh, you know, hanging on tight.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Since what are you making the Detroit defensive? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (04:32):
Really really physical, great get off, discipline, high effort talent.
I mean, they're they're what you want in the front.
They affect the game both in the run game, in
the past game. You know, it's been a big challenge
every time we've played them. It starts up front with
those guys and and trickles into the back end. So, uh,
they're the they're the engine.

Speaker 8 (04:52):
What is that?

Speaker 3 (04:53):
What does that group lose without Brian Branch, We'll see,
you know what I mean, I don't know if it'll schematically.
Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't. Obviously a unique playmaker
in this league. I hate to see things like that happen.
I got a ton of respect for him as a player.
He's a huge difference maker for them on the back
end with his ability to you know, cover receivers, cover

(05:15):
tight ends, make plays in the run game, you know,
great in zone coverage.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
He's a really a complete player.

Speaker 7 (05:22):
You know.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
So I know that'll be, you know, something we'll have
to adjust to and figure out. Trust the target in
the red zone, well yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
I mean, I think he's just as steady as they
come as a human being, a great player, you know,
huge target, great hands.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
I mean, the catch he made last week was was unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
Great grab, you know, kind of a tight window, throwing
their guy on his back and he was able to
uh come down with it.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
So he's done a great job of that. And then
he's I think.

Speaker 3 (05:47):
He's showing up really really nicely run after the catch
as well recently.

Speaker 4 (05:51):
Kind of two parts. But you guys have the chance
to earn a playoff berth with a win this weekend
and then also with you as being a top of
the NFC right now, Like how important is it are
these back to back games within five days?

Speaker 2 (06:01):
Yeah, I mean they're all important.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
Obviously this is a challenge for us, you know, playing
this one and then having to go you know, Thursday
right after that.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
But our focus is solely on the game you know,
in front of us.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
As far as what kind of implications that has to
be honest with you, we haven't talked about it one bit.
As a team, we just show up and try to
win every single game that we play in This will
be no different.

Speaker 7 (06:22):
I know it's probably not in your mind, but because
of the twenty twenty trade, you and Jared Goff in
the minds to reporters are going to be tied together for.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
Do you follow how he's doing at all? And can
you give us.

Speaker 6 (06:35):
Any insight at all to what your post game kind
of interactions.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
Might be as you guys have played for Yeah, I
mean I follow a lot of the quarterbacks around the league,
probably like a lot of guys on our team doing
like you guys do, you know, just kind of see
how it's going for and what they're doing. You know,
they've had a ton of success since he's been there.
He's been a great part of that. You know, I
think he does as good a job as anybody getting
the ball to his playmakers and letting those guys work.
They are a special group and I feel like he's

(06:59):
a great to stript of the ball. So yes, from
that point, you know, I do pay attention to him,
but not because I used to play there or he's
that just I'm paying attention to the game, and you know,
I guess our postgame interactions have always been a ton
of mutual respect. You know, it wasn't a you know,

(07:20):
the an easy transition for anybody. You know, you're moving
across the country, your families are moving across the country,
all those kind of things. You're going to a new
team doing all that, So I got a ton of
respect for him, you know, and and hopefully it feels
the same way towards me. The last couple of times
we've played him, it's been great battles all the way
down to the end. He's made some plays to help
him win the game and shoot, tip my cap to him,
so you know, he's uh, he's been playing really well.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
Cool, Thank you, Davante.

Speaker 4 (07:52):
What do you think would mean for you guys to
help Matthew Stafford get an MVP Award this year?

Speaker 6 (07:58):
I mean, it'd be awesome. Obviously, I think that that's
that's not our main goal, but that's definitely something that
we know means a lot to him, to us to
be a part of that, and I mean he's earned it.
He's played amazing, you know, this year, So to get that,
I'm sure that would be a big one for him
to check off the box. But we got some bigger
stuff in mine off shore.

Speaker 5 (08:19):
Since the day you've arrived, we've been asking you about
the development of your relationship with him on the field,
whether it's off the field or just as we sit
here in December. What do you know about him now
that you didn't.

Speaker 6 (08:34):
Know back in March or I mean, a lot of
the same stuff I've been saying to you guys before.
I think you just it takes some time to get
to know people and what you can see on the outside.
You can see that he was a baller, he was tough,
but then you get around him and you see, you know,
just how good of a leader he is. Just how
poised is you know, his ability to move on to

(08:55):
the next play, good or bad. It's just a lot
of different things within the poise realm. Just being that quarterback,
I mean, just just doing what you're supposed to do
as far as lead leading guys out there, you know,
I mean, honestly, one of the underrated things, especially in
this offense, is his ability to hear, you know, assess
and regurgitate some of the calls that we have without

(09:15):
using a wristband and just shows you how, you know,
locked in he is to the game plan and his craft. So,
I mean, the list goes on and on, but those
are that's just a few of them.

Speaker 7 (09:24):
When you make when you take pulls.

Speaker 4 (09:27):
You know, when you first got here Lean one, you said,
there's your dark cloud over the building.

Speaker 7 (09:31):
It's real positive environment. Now where you guys are he
fifteen flicking playoff spot?

Speaker 8 (09:36):
You have the one see when you look big picture
at coming here and this experience and now where you.

Speaker 7 (09:43):
Guys are, what do you mean to be?

Speaker 6 (09:45):
I mean, it's it's been, honestly exactly what I hope
they'll be. You know, come in and have a fast start,
playing with a team that's a young team that's you know,
fired up and got a lot of energy, a lot
of juice, and it's it's just been fun to kind
of piggyback off with been already happening around here for
a long time. So I don't think I came in
and did anything, you know, unbelievable as far as you know, like,

(10:07):
I didn't turn this thing around. You know, it was
just another piece to the puzzle and it's just been
been fun just being a part of a fun operation. Really,
you told the.

Speaker 4 (10:17):
RAMS podcast, I believe that when Matthew decides to retire,
that's when you're done. Yeah, yeah, Like, I mean, what
is it that could be at the end of the season,
This could be years from now.

Speaker 6 (10:29):
Yeah, we're gonna put that pressure on him and see
how he feels about that.

Speaker 8 (10:34):
What is it about how you guys are playing together
and you enjoyed playing with him. That thinks you didn't
feel at all.

Speaker 6 (10:41):
I mean, one, the body's just getting getting tired anyway.
But that was kind of a joke, kind of serious.
I mean, I really don't know, you know, how long
I'm gonna play or whatever. I just kind of mess
around with him. I did make that comment to him though,
that was that was serious. But yeah, it's just at
this point, I'm just I'm just grateful to be a
part of something like this and just kind of just

(11:01):
read it out and see see where see where we go?
And yeah, my I I make some serious but but
not so serious jokes. Sometimes I don't even know where
I'm going with it half the time. But yeah, I'm
enjoying it right now. He just laughed. He didn't he
didn't really take it too serious. But I need him
to know it's kind of serious though, a lot of
you guys.

Speaker 1 (11:20):
Do want to have talked about it. You know, the
motivation you get from seen Hohokua played action, energy and joy. Yeah,
but the physicality that he plays with you.

Speaker 6 (11:28):
Know, how you've taken you out of all Yeah, man,
I mean he's he's a he's a a unique talent,
unique just individual in general. It's it's funny to see
how he is just as a person and then to
see how he is on game days. It's it's it's
funny to just see kind of you know, a different
piece of people comes out sometimes. So I I love
his energy. I love just everything about him, just the

(11:50):
way he attacks it. I mean, he's he's one of
the most locked in people on game day and you
can see it why how he goes out there and
makes those places of the way he does and the
physicality aspect is I mean, he's he's making people pay
every single time. I mean you rarely see the first
person bring him down and you know sometimes not the
second either. So it's it's it's fun to watch.

Speaker 1 (12:06):
What did you think about what did you think of
this other step on the second touchdown on Sunday?

Speaker 6 (12:10):
Yeah, you killed him. I mean that's that's that's not
even exactly how like on paper that you know, play
or that route is supposed to go. So for him
to you know, figure it out and still kill a
guy like that, come back and massom and you know,
moon walk back into the en zone. That was that
was fun.

Speaker 5 (12:26):
Has always been just focused on what you're what today
being Wednesday this week? Does it feel different though, knowing
you guys can clinch a plast spot this week?

Speaker 6 (12:36):
I didn't even need to know that, to be honest,
I just I don't think anybody else on the team
needed to know it. It's it's cool to those certain
things like that, but just the way we approach it,
I think it's the best way is to just be
where your feet are and you know, conquered the day
that you're in and today's Wednesday, and that's that's where
we are. And then Sunday we'll go out there and
and you know, if we get to clinch the ind
of that, that'll be great. But you know, if if

(12:58):
it wasn't, we'd still out there with the same intentionality
and same intentionality throughout the week to go out there
and prepare for the game.

Speaker 4 (13:06):
I was just gonna ask about two upcoming games over
five days, but I think he just kind of addressed.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
That reading the room.

Speaker 8 (13:14):
I love it.

Speaker 9 (13:16):
Hey, guys, Okay, you know projected because we were kind
of walked through today Byron Young would have been limited
with a knee. Davonte, you guys just talk to him,
you know, would have been a DMP just being smart
with his hamstring. But he's feeling good, making good progress.

Speaker 7 (13:31):
Coach, can you speak to the development of Lake Quarter
when you've seen so much?

Speaker 10 (13:36):
Yeah, it's been awesome.

Speaker 9 (13:37):
You know, I think it's funny I was talking to
him just you know, he's been so consistent and so steady.
He's had some different things he's worked through, whether it's
breaking its form, whatever it is. But you know, really
happy for him. He provides an explosive element. He's really
tough in protection, doing a great job in the past game.
And so I think he and Kirron have been excellent
compliments of one another. And you know, I think the

(13:57):
more that he plays, the more confidence that he's earning.
And and it's a credit to you know, to him,
to Ron Gould, you know, to really Kiren, just that
running back room as a whole. But he's he's been outstanding,
and you know, love what we've seen from Blake.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
I should I have just made a two decision yet, Yeah,
he'll be up Sean cheaund Both Davante and Matthew said
that they weren't really aware hadn't been discussed that if
you win you're in the playoffs. Is that typical you know,
for addressing the team or is it just because it's
really in the week.

Speaker 9 (14:25):
You know, it's it's something that you know, we try
to do everything Omar in terms of just being totally present.
Our focus and concentration is doing everything that we can
to try to be able to win this game. And
so that's kind of really where our focus is. And
if that means what that means, great, But you know,
we're we try to just be one day at a time.
I never really talk about the result, you know. That's
it's more about, you know, leaning into our process, giving

(14:47):
ourselves a chance to control what we can control, and
then having the courage to go cut it loose when
that opportunity presents itself on Sunday. So that would be
pretty standard for us not to discuss those things. I
know you'd ask him that, So don't have to worry
about covering it.

Speaker 4 (15:02):
Uh, Sean, what have you just kind of seen from
the Lions the offense this year as they've gone through
some changes.

Speaker 10 (15:06):
In play callers.

Speaker 9 (15:08):
Still unbelievable offense. I mean they're up there number one
in points. They're so explosive. I got tremendous respect for
coach Campbell and really what they've done, you know, really
for their team. You know, whether it's defense, in the
kicking game, on the offense, he and Brad have really
built an excellent foundation that they're really building on. Obviously,
Jared's done a great job, but they've got unbelievable playmakers.

(15:28):
They do a great job of accentuating their skill set,
their physical upfront. There's a certain style of play that
really comes to life when they're at their best, and
you know, it's a real credit to their players, their coaches.
I've seen an excellent offense that's you know, continue to
pick up where they've left off over the last few years.

Speaker 4 (15:45):
Specifically, what do you see from Jimira Gibbs.

Speaker 9 (15:47):
I see as an expo explosive of a player as
there is in this league. Every single time he touches it,
you're like, oh my gosh, he might score. And you know,
he's unbelievable in both phases. You see him compete and protection.
You know, there was a reason why he was so
highly regarded coming out of Bama, and so he is
a special, special player and they've got a lot of them.
You know, he and Montgomery are excellent compliments to one another.

(16:10):
In the backfield, they got a great offensive line. Jared
does a great job playing point guard and getting everybody
involved in. You know, Jamison and you know I'm and
Rau are unbelievable players. So this is this is a
great challenge.

Speaker 8 (16:22):
I w when him frum last year having very high
percentage of punches. Stuff to now and you're spending we're
we're having for plays first started. Jared, what was the
conversation like with him hiring when you talked to.

Speaker 9 (16:35):
Him about what made the sea Yeah, just that you
know that I think it's gonna benefit him where he'll
stay fresher throughout the year. Just because he can do
it doesn't mean it's best for him over the long
haul and really the longevity of the season, especially if
you're fortunate enough to earn an opportunity to play after
the seventeen. In a lot of instances, what was good
about it, Sarah is there was that temporary ir that

(16:55):
he had in twenty three that I think, you know,
you get a month off and he had an amazing
season picked up right where he had left off after
that really good Arizona game that he had and did
really well, so you could use that as a reference
point that even though you don't really want it, But
I think the most important thing is clarity of direction,
clarity of communication. Those were things that we had really

(17:15):
talked about and discussed that are best for him and
for a football team. And I think you're seeing fruitful dividends.
You know, he's he's doing a great job. I think
he's playing really well in all phases. And I think,
like I talked to you guys earlier on Monday about
I think Blake said it perfectly.

Speaker 10 (17:30):
You know, they they positively pushed one another. I mean
they're so.

Speaker 9 (17:33):
Supportive, they enjoy celebrating each other, but then they also
want to, you know, do their thing when they get
their opportunities.

Speaker 10 (17:38):
And I think we've seen it on display.

Speaker 9 (17:40):
But Karen's been great and and I think that's allowed
him to stay stronger, that he's not having to carry,
you know, that whole workload just because he can, you know,
not only for this year, but for the longevity of
his career.

Speaker 10 (17:52):
And and you know, I think it's been great.

Speaker 7 (17:53):
Shared Z talked about how early in the season you
brought him in and showed him some of his best
plays to kind of talk to him about that's how
you want.

Speaker 2 (18:02):
Him to play and get share to guess why was that.

Speaker 1 (18:04):
Important for me to do at the time, And how
do you feel like he proceec.

Speaker 10 (18:08):
Oh, he was awesome.

Speaker 9 (18:09):
I mean I love Jared Vers and so you know,
I think that you know, you get a lot of
our guys, whether it's shared, these special players, you know,
they're always you know, wanted to push the envelope, add
new things to their repertoire. But you know, at the
same time, what you don't want to do is lose
sight of you know, what's made you a special player
in the first place. What kind of player are you?
What are you capable of being? What are the key
things that you know? Sometimes we're looking for answers, and

(18:30):
it can be as simple as let's go back and
see myself having successful outcomes and be reminded of pre
snap demeanor, being locked and loaded, understanding the intent where
my playoffs snap in and snap out. But he's a stud,
you know, and I think the most important thing was
is to help him reach and realize his highest potential.
But it was more of a conversation and then you know,
showing I think seeing is more important and more powerful

(18:52):
than anything you can say. And when you can show
successful examples of this is what it looks like when
you're doing the things that you're capable of. You don't
have to make stuff up as being yourself. Snap in
and snap out that relentless mindset of mentality. And he's
done an excellent job. And you know, I don't want
to say that's why, but I think it's our job
to be able to try to help these guys, you know,
find you know, their highest potential, and you know, continue

(19:15):
to lean in and believe in them.

Speaker 1 (19:16):
I like to see Matthew's teammates chant MPP for him.

Speaker 10 (19:19):
The Locked Room, something that was for artists. Remember you
guys asked me about that. It was awesome. I mean,
these guys, here's what I would say.

Speaker 9 (19:26):
What is really cool about having Matthew Adam is that,
regardless of whether he's in this conversation or not, there
has been a consistent belief that when that guy's our quarterback,
everybody believes we always have a chance. There's such a
reverence and a respect and you know, he's I've referenced
this before.

Speaker 10 (19:42):
He's got such a great humility, but you know, he's.

Speaker 9 (19:45):
The man at the same time, and that is an
incredible way to be able to balance it. But that's
authentic to who Matthew is. And then his place speaks
for itself. But what they see too is they see
when he's in here in the mornings. They see the
way that he works. They see the pre ab work
that it that he does to get himself loose and
ready to go for a Wednesday at Thursday, at Friday practice,

(20:05):
all the things that he does, and then they understand
the command that he has and these walkthroughs where he's
truly a coach and extension of us, and he's got
a lot of love and support from a lot of people.
And I think that's been pretty consistent for everybody that
he comes across, just because of who he is or.

Speaker 2 (20:21):
Plus Stephens removing from the trade.

Speaker 7 (20:23):
What have you seen, Jared Gobb that he's doing, you know, better.

Speaker 2 (20:27):
Maybe than he ever did.

Speaker 9 (20:29):
I see outstanding maturity, I see outstanding growth ownership. You
can see they give him a lot of you know
things at the line of scrimmage, Mike point Id's calling
multiple plays, getting in and out of the right looks,
whether that be in the run game or in the
past game, unbelievable accuracy and anticipation. Jared's played really great,
you know, and I've been truly happy to see, you know,

(20:50):
what he's done and how he's really put that team
on his back and done such a great job of
being able to build. You know, I've been very open
and very clear about I had a lot of growing
up to do. You know, back when that thing went down,
there was a lot of great memories, a lot of
really good ball that he did here that I'll always cherish,
and I'm truly happy for him, you know, married as
a beautiful little girl now and so you know, it's

(21:11):
it's awesome to see and you know, I think I'm
reminded of those things. And then you're also reminded of,
you know, when you need to be able to grow
up and handle things a little bit better.

Speaker 10 (21:18):
And I'll never run away from that.

Speaker 9 (21:20):
And what I'm grateful for and appreciative of is that
he's got such you know, grace towards me and understanding
and you know, happy for Jared.

Speaker 7 (21:29):
Have you seen from Detroit's offense since since Dan Campbell
started calling.

Speaker 10 (21:33):
Players, I've seen a great offense.

Speaker 9 (21:34):
You know, Dan does a great job and he was
He's always been so heavily involved in their offense. You know,
he he's got a background, got big picture ownership, been
around a bunch of different things, and you can see
that system that they've made their own in Detroit. You know,
there's a real identity that's geared towards accentuating players skill sets.
There's a play style, but I've seen a great feel
for picking and choosing his spots. I think he sequences

(21:57):
the game really well. They've obviously he does a great
job of getting a bunch of different there. They're special
playmakers involved, and he keeps you off balance, you know.
I mean you look at last Thursday. They did an
amazing job, you know, putting up i think forty four points,
and you know they're leading the league and points scored
right now, and they're up there and every metric that
matters offensively, they're doing a great job. And it's a
tremendous credit to you know, to Dan, his staff and

(22:19):
those players.

Speaker 8 (22:20):
Fanti saying maybe one of the underrated things that Matthew
does is taking a long play call in being able
to kind.

Speaker 2 (22:27):
Of communicate it.

Speaker 8 (22:28):
Yeah, what is the skill level or like what goes
into being able to from the play you get him
to then giving as up.

Speaker 9 (22:35):
You have to see it when you say it, you know,
like in a lot of instances, if you're not able
to see the formation and envision all right, where am
I setting the protection?

Speaker 10 (22:42):
Where's the route concept? Who's running?

Speaker 9 (22:44):
What two or three man concept? Where's my single receiver?
What's my back checked down? Where am I setting the
offensive line or the run game? What's the final formation?
You know, so you have to be able to see
it when you're saying it. If it's just rote memorization
and I said float to west right ace, you know,
in all these different concepts, he'd be like, what the
hell are you talking about? But he can see it
when he says it. So now he's able to make

(23:05):
eye contact with his teammates, give little coaching points as
you're going up to the line of scrimmage. This is
next level that he does, and so it's really special.
But you know that was I can He'll joke with you,
you know, once we ended up, you know, starting to
spend a bunch of time together, I can remember, you know,
really going through stuff with him at depth and how
smart he is. I mean, he's incredibly intelligent, but he

(23:27):
works at it. You know, we talk about the work works,
and you know, so he's got great capacity and then
he puts in the work and he's very prideful in that.
And I think it's a real edge and difference for us.

Speaker 4 (23:36):
What is the reason I mean for a longer.

Speaker 8 (23:38):
Play callic What does that add for you as a play.

Speaker 10 (23:41):
Colored point does well?

Speaker 9 (23:42):
You know, I think number one, it does take some
of it puts more on him, but it takes some
of the stress off other guys where they're listening. There
might be twenty five words in a play call, but
if you're a certain position, you're only listening to all right,
what's the cadence?

Speaker 10 (23:55):
And then what are those couple of key things that
really talk to me?

Speaker 9 (24:00):
You know, I think there's a lot of times that
I could trim the verbiage. We've tried to get better
about that.

Speaker 10 (24:04):
We're better.

Speaker 9 (24:05):
I was he and I were talking about back in
twenty one when he first got here, the vernacular as
trim that used to be absolutely absurd. I don't know
how we weren't taking delay of games all the time
because of how long the damn play calls were but
we're getting better, they're still pretty ridiculous.

Speaker 7 (24:19):
Said Microfloor was relaying called correct like Partner's game.

Speaker 9 (24:25):
Was he calling playing some you know, But I mean
I was involved. You know, here's the thing. It's always
a collaborative process. But you know, like anything else, I
wasn't sure if I was going to have to run
out and use the bathroom in the middle of the game. Gary,
you know, so you never know what's going to end up.
I pull a Joe Paterno on you. You know, so
you guys sing I'm kidding. You know, there's a little
humor in the truth. But but here's what I would say,

(24:45):
just like when you've talked to me, Mike did a
great job. There were some definite things, but even when
I'm sending it in, you know, it was really because
I missed some time. Wasn't really sure if stuff like
that was going to come up. But you're still at
the game. You're heavily involved, and does a great job,
and so you know, it always is a collaborative process.
There were some different things, but you know, we were
talking every single you know, every single play amongst each

(25:09):
other as a staff that's the nice thing of everybody
being on the headset. But again, I can't say enough
about how fortunate I feel to be able to have him,
what a great job he did. And it's funny that
you asked that because in a lot of instances, some
of that came to fruition. But you know, it was
a great collective effort by our offensive staff and Mike
certainly deserves a ton of credit for that.

Speaker 10 (25:27):
Okay, thanks guys,

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
