Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sean, how'd you guys come out injury wise last night?
Speaker 2 (00:03):
I'm not sure yet. I haven't met with Reggie.
Speaker 1 (00:06):
Okay, is Justin dedis your full time starter at left guard?
Speaker 2 (00:11):
No, Steve is still getting back to health. You know,
Justin's done a really nice job at him and I've
been really pleased with him, you know. But the expectation
is is when Steve returns back to full health and
plays the way that he's capable of, expect him to
be able to earn that role back. But do feel
really good about what Justin has done for us.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
I mean, we saw Steve on the field goal unit
last night, like, just at this point, what can he
physically not do?
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Yeah, it was really hard just because of the Thursday game.
You know, I thought Justin, you know, Steve was working
himself back in and even though one hundred percent Steve,
we still felt like that was going to be better,
not one hundred percent Steve was going to be better
to have him up in a backup role if something
were to happen. The rapport, the continuity that Justin's been
able to establish with Daleric and with Coleman, just felt
(00:59):
like he wanted to be able to allow Steve the
opportunity to get a full week's worth of practice, feeling
like he was really at that ankle, secure and sturdy
for himself. And we're we were really able to evaluate
him fully and that's going to be the expectation for
a preparation with Baltimore. But he's going to earn that
spot back by the way he practices.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
And you talked last night about the team needing to
improve on its execution moving forward. Just how did you
feel about the way the team prepared heading into last night?
Did you feel like they came in with the right
level of focus?
Speaker 2 (01:30):
And I did ad him, I really did, you know,
I mean, I love this group. I love the way
that they prepare. I mean, and you give San Francisco credit.
There's gonna be a lot of things that we wish
we handled better, you know, but I think there's a
lot of situations that the enemy does have a say.
You know, I'll look forward to really diving into this
tape and figuring out where we can improve. What I
(01:51):
continue to feel about this group is is they're never
out of the fight. They continue to believe, they continue
to find a way, And I mean, you want to
talk about to gut punch is in terms of how
we've lost the two games that we have where a couple,
you know, we're a couple execution plays away from being
a five and zero team, but the reality is we're
three and two and how we move forward and how
(02:12):
we use this And I can't remember feeling much more
disgusted waking up after a tough loss than I have
after the two that we've had. And it's because I
love this group so much. It's why I said what
I did to you guys yesterday, is because I feel
a tremendous responsibility to do a good job of trying
to put our players in positions that have successful outcomes.
(02:35):
And when I don't think I've done that, or when
I think I can do better or we can do better,
I mean, it chaffs me to no end. But I
promise you this, I'm gonna work my ass off to
make sure that I continue to be better for this group.
And that's the expectations that I know that everybody in
our building will have. And this is gonna galvanize us.
I promise you that. Thank you. Sheel Stu.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
Sean, just what was it like being able to get
Terrence ferguson a handful of offensive snaps last night, and
just what did you make of his first career catch.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Yeah, he's a stud. I mean he went up over
the top of somebody in a man coverage, made a
great contested catch for twenty plus yards. You know, we
got to be able to figure out a way to
be able to get him going. You know, it was
such a weird game. You know, they possessed the ball
forty minutes. You know, the plays were so limited early on,
and then you're kind of playing from behind, but got
(03:28):
in there in some of the third down known passing situations.
He's gonna be a really good player for us, I believe,
And I thought he did an excellent job with the
opportunity that he had last night.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
And then understanding you know, constraints like capspase and roster
spots and all those things. Just how content are you
with the current group of corners that you have and
are you looking to still add to that group potentially
even with signing Trey Brown recently.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Yeah, I think I think we're gonna look into those things.
I mean, we always want to try to be able
to improve, you know, like I said, I'm gonna really
do it deep dive into this tape. But I really like,
you know, the group of players that we're working with,
and we want to continue to find ways to be
able to put them in good positions to have successful outcomes.
And again, give the Niners credit. I thought Kyle and
(04:13):
their staff did a really good job of distributing the field.
The ball was coming out quick. Even though we were
getting some quick wins up front, there was some air
in some of our underneath coverages. And we'll look to see,
you know, where we can improve collectively. But you know,
I don't want to go too deep into that before
I have the appropriate information and I'm able to dissect
everything appropriately. Thank you, You're welcome.
Speaker 4 (04:36):
Gear Hey Sean, Hey, you know we write a lot
about it, you know, going into a game like that,
how many players are injured on the forty nine ers
and whatnot. And I know you guys prepare your players
to play against whoever they're facing.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
But do you do you.
Speaker 5 (04:53):
Think that ever seeps into their consciousness, you know that
that they are playing in under a what looks like
an underman team.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
You know, I certainly don't feel that way. I certainly
hope not our job. And clearly you know I got
to do a better job of getting us ready. But
I don't think so, Gary. Humility is only a day away,
as we just learned last night, and you give them credit.
The NFL is too difficult. It's a pretty similar situation
last year, you know, when we won in Week three,
(05:24):
and so you look at it and no, I am
I'm naive probably to a lot of the stuff that's
out there relative to the social media things like that.
I'm obviously aware of who was out there. I know
our players are probably more in tune with that stuff.
But I love the mindset of mentality of this group.
If anything, you know, you use these as learning opportunities
(05:45):
to make sure, but I don't. I didn't get that
sense at all. I think there's too much respect for
that group, those players, that that coaching staff, and really
this league as a whole with how competitive it is.
And let last night be a learning lesson for us
that the humility thing is very real and we'll use
it the right way moving forward.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
And uh, I know you're gonna dive back into this,
but what's what's going on with the kicking game?
Speaker 5 (06:10):
And how can you guys, man, you.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
Know, I wish it was just one thing Gary, you know,
but when you watch the protection we we we've got
to fix it. And and it's not one thing in particular.
There's there's different locations and spots and people that have
not executed the way that we're capable of. We've got
to consistently use better techniques. And you know, I thought
(06:37):
we had a hold on it. I thought we did
a good job against Indianapolis. Sorry, this light is so annoying.
I thought we had a Uh. I thought we had
a good handle on it and uh, and clearly I
was not right in that. So we got to fix it.
We got to go back to work, and we got
to get the right techniques and we got to get
the right people on there, because, uh, that has been
(06:59):
a killer for us and it's cost us two games.
Speaker 5 (07:04):
Thanks very much.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
There, John last week when sorry, I'm sure.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
Last year when Karen was dealing with a couple of fumbles,
he said, you guys talked, had a really good conversation.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
Curious how you address this with him? If you do
it all well, I think the first thing is is
you know, you let him know you love him. You appreciate,
appreciate him as a competitor, and I think that's why
I feel so sick about the way that the game ended,
because you know, there's like, there's opportunities where he makes
a big fourth down conversion, you know, after that to
(07:41):
be able to keep that play a lot, to keep
a drive alive, and you wanted to be able to
give guys an opportunity to be able to respond, and
that's what he's consistently done. You know, you go back
and you look at it. You know, I think you
want to make sure that you let guys know that
you number one, love them unconditionally, you support them, and
you want to try to be able to give them
the tools to solve the problems anytime in this league
(08:02):
with that way guys attack at the football, if you
don't have both hands on the ball and traffic, you're
gonna leave yourself susceptible for it to come out. It's
what it appeared like what occurred right there. But I
love that guy. Uh, I'm always I'm riding with him
and uh, you know, we got to figure out a
way to improve. And he'll be the first to take accountability,
which is why you want to put your arm around
him and be right there with him, you know. And
(08:25):
and I'm no different than him in terms of, you know,
where we can all collectively improve and I expect everybody
to have that approach. Is that something you can improve?
I think, you know, here's what I would say. I
think that this league does such a good job. I
think there's certain techniques and fundamentals. The answer is, yes,
you have to be so intentional about it, and then
there are certain times where defenders and defensive players do
(08:49):
such a great job of attacking at it that sometimes
it might come out. But but the answer is yes,
you can improve upon that, and uh, and we certainly
need to be able to do that. Thank you, You're welcome.
Did us that we wrap up with? Great? Good morning, coach,
Good morning.
Speaker 5 (09:04):
Are you talking about Matthews sustaining excellent and how it
could be taken for granted because he does it so easily?
Speaker 2 (09:12):
Yes, it's not taken for granted for us. You know,
he's a great competitor. I think you know, he certainly
gave us a chance with the way that he played
and the way that he was able to move manipulate
the pocket, moved the ball down the field. I thought
he was in total command. I think that's one of
the things that you know, you always want to try
to be able to figure out, all right, what's the
best in different scenarios. And I think one of the
(09:35):
things that you think about is is probably wasn't the
I know, it wasn't the best decision to take the
ball out of his hands and crunch time on that
fourth down last night. You know, even though you think
you might think, hey, that's that's the best option for
the moment. Are you providing the clarity for the players
to be able to execute, Are you putting them in
the right spots? And whether we win or lose? Those
(09:58):
are things that I'm always and that we're always asking
ourselves as coaches. But he has been outstanding, Dennis. You know,
the crazy thing about Matthew is when you're talking to
him after the game, he's just wondering what he could
do differently. And that's where he just feels sick for
our players. Because our players are coaches, they put so
much into it and you want to do right by them,
(10:19):
and that's why this one stings. But it is temporary
and we're not going to sit here and cry about it.
We're going to move forward the right way. It's not
going to make this weekend very enjoyable for me, but
we will use it for the right you know, we'll
use it the right way as we come back and
we start our preparation for our next game, and this
(10:39):
will follow up.
Speaker 6 (10:40):
How does this game prepare your ball club for stay
like week fifteen or week seventeen.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
I think every game is a learning op, Dennis. You know,
through these five games, holy geez, have we had a
lot of different experiences. I've learned a lot about this group.
I think we're going to continue to learn about ourselves.
And I think this game will really give us a
good opportunity to lean in and be who we say
we want to be. And that starts with me, you know,
not being a fraud about it and UH and leaning
(11:09):
in and UH and doing a better job for us.
Thank you, Coke, Sean Uh.
Speaker 6 (11:17):
Terrence Perkson got his first cash last night. Jark White
Hunder still waiting to get some action with you know
what we've been talking about this whole time. Are those
guys getting any closer to earning playing time since week one?
Or are there is there a chance that they're going
to get more of a role going forward. Where are they?
Speaker 2 (11:30):
Yeah, Terrence is doing a good job. I think he certainly,
you know, showed why he's capable, you know, and the
one opportunity that he got and he was separating on
some other routes where he could have got the football
and you know, they ended up busting some coverages where
he might have been the primary and we ended up
finding Kyron into the end of the flat for a
couple of plays that you saw last night that that
(11:50):
Terrence was also winning and separating. Uh, he is doing
a good job, you know, Jarck Ques, I really love
the way that he goes about his business, continues to work.
You know, he's he's continuing to improve. Whether or not
he's closer to you know, being having a role with
us as far as the running backs concerned. You know,
it's hard for me to say right now, but I
(12:12):
do love the way that he's gone about his business.
And I think Terrence is only going to continue to
improve and get more opportunities as we go because he
showed that, you know, he's he's got that capability that
we love so much coming out of Oregon. A way
they was able to go up and make a big
time play for us last night and last thing.
Speaker 6 (12:30):
Have you started to look toward you obviously have have
you started to look toward how you're going to handle
the next two weeks in terms of being on the road,
taking a couple of long trips and how that can
how that can help or herd a team. What's what's
your experience been in the past, and what do you
what do you anticipate?
Speaker 2 (12:41):
Yeah, you know what, I actually think it's great, you know,
because it's the scenario that we're dealt. So what we'll
do is, you know, we'll have a normal week of preparation.
We'll go out to Baltimore on Saturday, but then we'll
stay out there in our preparation for Jacksonville going into
the London game, and then we'll fly out on Friday.
So that gives us a good opportunity to really be
(13:03):
able to lean in. I think it'll be good for guys,
you know, to be able to get a couple of
days off, let the emotions, let their bodies recover and recuperate,
and then we'll come back swinging on Monday. But but
it'll be a normal week of preparation and then we'll
just stay out in Baltimore to kind of shorten that
trip to London when we go play Jacksonville before or bye.
But what a big stretch this is going to be
(13:24):
for us. Thank you, Thanks coach, Okay, thanks guys,
