Speaker 1 (00:00):
Adam gold joins us. You know you can hear him
in Raleigh. That's been the case for multiple decades ninety
nine to nine the fan in Raleigh Middays. You can
hear his show weeknights here on WFNZ. I was listening
to a bunch of his show Bone while sitting in
a parking lot my daughter's dance school as she was
at ballet class, and I'm listening to Goldie in Victoria
(00:22):
and it works beautifully in the evenings here on WFNZ. Goldie,
what's going on, man? How you doing?
Speaker 2 (00:27):
I'm doing well, man, mac tart jist stuff is I mean,
it just demonstrates the pull of Dean Smith, doesn't.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
It is that? What is that? What you think it is?
Speaker 2 (00:37):
That's my take on it.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
Yeah, that's me. That can't hurt.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
It also shows that you could grow up and mature,
because he certainly wasn't mature when he was in college.
Speaker 4 (00:47):
You know, he was we'll just say emotional in college.
Definitely was the Three Stops looking at wake Forest also
for art minutes.
Speaker 5 (00:58):
Yeah, Texas says he waker recruiting violation then about that
he was at Michigan also, all right.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
Well, anyway, that goes to show if you're a knuckleheading. Hell,
why am I surprised? Bone? I was the biggest knucklehead
around in college.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
You know?
Speaker 4 (01:14):
Mean? Oh me?
Speaker 2 (01:15):
I was a good boy in college.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Okay, all right, Well there's different paths. There's different paths
to sports radio careers.
Speaker 5 (01:22):
Apparently I partied a lot in college because my friends
went to college.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
Goldie ing me in.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
We are very excited about this Panther wide receiving corps.
The depth something we often don't have, the depth in
the wide receiving corps. We're very excited about the running game.
Bryce Young, do you think we should be pumped about
this offense or would you tell us to pump the brakes?
Speaker 4 (01:47):
No? I think the offense is going to be very
good as long as the offensive line stays healthy, and
based on the depth chart that they released for this week,
it looks like Lewis and Hunt are going to be fine.
I mean, remember last year they rebuilt the interior of
that O line. So if the old line stays intact, Yeah,
(02:09):
their offense is gonna be very good and they're gonna
need it.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
Excuse me, because I don't.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
Think their defense is going to be very good again.
Maybe it won't be as tragic as it was a year.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
It can't it can't be. It can't be.
Speaker 4 (02:25):
Well, you never know it, but their offense should be
very good.
Speaker 5 (02:33):
Do you think that eight to ten wins is doable
for this team?
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (02:40):
You know, I was talking to a buddy of mine
yesterday on the air, and I don't know if you're
going to turn it down there. You heard about the
range five to eleven wins, Yes, five to eleven wins,
and I went eleven.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
You weren't having that body I heard that.
Speaker 6 (02:57):
I don't think eleven.
Speaker 4 (02:59):
Uh, certainly not a realistic range, but you never know.
This is why sports is amazing. You get off to
a good start, you win a game or two that
you don't figure to win, like I think if you
look at the Panthers first seven games, like, theoretically every
one of those.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Games could be a win.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
Right. The back half of the schedule is hard, but.
Speaker 6 (03:24):
You know, theoretically you can say, well, yeah, they can
even that game.
Speaker 4 (03:27):
That wouldn't be too much of a stretch.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
It's a stretch to.
Speaker 4 (03:29):
Say they're gonna win all seven. But look, I think
their offense could carry them to seven wins and then
if the defense is better than I think it's gonna be,
then maybe you're talking about you know, nine, I think
I think the division is in play because we just
don't know. Yeah, and I think this division could be
(03:52):
won with nine wins. Nine or ten is in cards
then yeah, So all we really want is for them
to have a chance when you head to Thanksgiving.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
That would be That would be a nice twist, meaningful
Thanksgiving football time. Yes, seriously, And can I get greedy
and ask for December as well to December to still
be in the mix? Uh, we have a gold Goldie.
It's to be on the in the Hunt graphic they
put up on Fox in the month of December, Like, well,
well we're Christmas shopping to actually still be on the
(04:28):
in the Hunt graphic.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
Oh yeah, I think I think that. I think that
will be a uh that'll happen.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
Yes, ah, God, now we're vibing baby, Now we are
vibing Goldie?
Speaker 3 (04:40):
Did I? Okay?
Speaker 1 (04:41):
So I was listening, all right, so and yeah I
heard that with Will Brinson and I'm kind of with you.
I would go like seven to ten as the range.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
I don't want to be. I don't you know, something
like that.
Speaker 6 (04:51):
We want to live in reality, right, If we want
to live.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
In reality, That's kind of what I feel like.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
But some people would say six or five's in play,
and I would disagree with that. I do feel like
like I do feel Goldie, like you bring up point
about the defense, and I'm not gonna lie. An hour
before you came on, I was lament. I was praising
the offense and still being paranoid about the defense and
about special teams. Plus a lot of key guys on
special teams. But like the five or like the five
(05:18):
or six win crowd, there's a lot of them in
the national media. I just I feel like Dan Morgan
address too much defensively for them to still be like
a five win team or only pick up one win.
Speaker 4 (05:31):
Yeah, I know, I think they'll be better. I still look,
I'm not really a Mike Jackson guy, So to me,
I think they have half of a good starting secondary,
and I think that to me, Jackson should be a
depth player, not a not a starter. But if something
happens to j c Horn, it, to me, it's a disaster.
(05:55):
Like they needed a better cornerback on the other side,
I thought.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
I mean didn't.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
He had had like seventeen eighteen pass breakups last year
he got He gets targeted more than Horn. Obviously they'll
throw away from Horn. But I feel like he was
up to the task a lot.
Speaker 6 (06:11):
But nobody get targeted.
Speaker 4 (06:13):
The guys are get a lot of interceptions to get
targeted because J. C.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
Horns On the other side, no one, no one is
contending that he should be thrown at. You know that
people should throw at Chase Horn more. I just thought
he was up to the task a lot last year.
You know, he's physical.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
I think reasonable, reasonable people can have differing opinions.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
All right, what about us too? What about what about
to unreasonable people? I was reasonable people. I was like,
is he really including me in this reasonable minds thing?
Speaker 3 (06:47):
I'm not sure? All right, Gody.
Speaker 5 (06:50):
On CDs Sports Inside College Football last night, Aaron Taylor
predicted Clemston to go undefeated this year. How much of
a chance do you give that of happening.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
Better than the Panthers winning eleven?
Speaker 2 (07:06):
Oh that's all I say.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
Created a debate here on the show.
Speaker 4 (07:12):
Uh yeah, I mean could they ain't sure they could?
The conference schedules not super hard. Uh, it's not super easy. Either.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
Uh. I think I went through Clumpston schedule and said
that there were.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
Five losable games, uh, including the two SEC non conference games. Uh.
Notre Dame. Right, they've been played. They played Notre Dame
this year and and frankly, they're gonna play Notre Dame.
Just about it.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
I don't think they don't. They don't, they don't. But
that will start soon where they play them every year.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
I think.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
I think it starts next year.
Speaker 4 (07:46):
Yeah, but you know, their non conference schedule is difficult
South Carolina. At the end of the season, I think
South Carolina's going to be good. But man, what seventeen
and no winning a national like I assume man Taylor
is also talking about winning a national championship. I think
Clemson will probably drop one game during the regular season, hopefully,
(08:09):
if not the first one or the last one. You know,
you can drop a conference game and win the ACC.
Speaker 6 (08:17):
Championship game and then go on to the playoff and
have a chance. I want to see it. I want
to see.
Speaker 4 (08:22):
Clemson's offensive line. We know how good they are defensively.
They are loaded on the defensive line, but I have
not seen a great Clemson offensive line.
Speaker 6 (08:35):
In a long time.
Speaker 4 (08:37):
And you're just not gonna go undefeated unless your offensive
line is great.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
Yeah, it is a veteran group, no doubt about it.
Though this year for Clemson upfront, pretty damn good group.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
Goldie.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
I'll ask you the question this way, do you think
in twenty twenty five, like, is there is there a
team this year in college football or a team or
two that you would look at and say, I think
they've got a great chance to go unbeatn or do
you think we've reached the point of parody where you
would bet against there being any unbeaten teams.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
Yeah, I mean.
Speaker 4 (09:09):
Penn State's probably got the best chance because Penn State
schedule is atrociously bad. Literally, Penn State schedule is two
games home against Oregon and at Ohio State.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
Uh, as long as the one game is the one
that we never win, I say, it's to the Penn
State fant take us to go.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
And beat.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
So that to me, it's it's a lot of it
has to do with your schedule. So Penn State schedule,
like their non conference schedule, they should be eliminated from
any question of benefit of the doubt. Indiana thinks that
Penn State's non conference schedule is terrible.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
Hey, at least we didn't have Virginia scheduled and then
run scared from them. All right, I at least got that.
We at least got that going for us. But yes,
I'm pretty sure, Goldie, that there are high school teams
that could go unbeaten in the Penn State non conference if.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
I'm not mistaken.
Speaker 6 (10:15):
Doesn't Penn State play Villanova?
Speaker 3 (10:17):
Yes, Villanova's in there.
Speaker 6 (10:19):
Lellanova's I think a top ten FCS preseason team.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
Oh there you go.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
Okay, So when next next time a Buckeye fan bashes
our non conference schedule, use that fact.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
We got a top ten team. It's Villanova. Fcyes Indiana
and Penn State.
Speaker 5 (10:36):
Goldie schedule like like Duke and Carolina's exhibition basketball games.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
No questions.
Speaker 4 (10:43):
By the way, this stat I actually had to go
do the research on this. Uh. There are ten teams
in college football that do not play a power for
non conference.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
Game.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
Six of them are from the Big There.
Speaker 4 (11:01):
Are eleven schools that's play two power for non conference games,
and all eleven are from the Acco.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
There you go. How about that? That sounds like something Jim,
By the way, it sounds like something Jim Phillips will
to out. Uh yeah, exactly at some point. All right, Goldie,
well hey you are the man, Goldie. What's up, by
the way with your UFC slander? Goldie? Do you like
is your stance that UFC is not a sport?
Speaker 3 (11:31):
Liked? I am I here.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
I didn't say that. I just say I just said it.
Speaker 4 (11:36):
Has never a feel to me.
Speaker 6 (11:38):
I'm not I'm a I'm a lover, not a fighter.
Speaker 4 (11:40):
I don't like.
Speaker 6 (11:41):
I don't like being hits or punched in the face
or kicked. I don't want to watch people hit or
punch others in the face. Uh you know, I you know,
sing sing me a song?
Speaker 3 (11:55):
What about hockey? Though it's gonna be about hockey a CBS.
Speaker 6 (11:58):
I'm not a hockey fi guy.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
Oh okay, hockey boxing, real.
Speaker 6 (12:04):
Real, funny story.
Speaker 4 (12:05):
Do you guys know? Stan Fishler is long time old
school uh like hockey columnist, clearly New York heras.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
Clearly Yes, clearly he.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
Wrote a book.
Speaker 4 (12:19):
He once wrote a book about the tough guys in hockey.
Speaker 6 (12:22):
And we had him on the show. Uh and I said,
are you are you in any way? Uh?
Speaker 4 (12:30):
You know, bothered that people are criticizing you like, I'm
not a fight guy. Like that, you're glorifying something that
really doesn't have a place in today's game.
Speaker 6 (12:42):
And he's threatened to hang.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
Up on med I try. I have trotted that in
the past here saying I just don't understand the point
of fighting. Why is it like, uh revered and oh
my god, hockey guys. Yeah, hockey guys wanted to pull
the sweater up over my head and go to town. They did,
they did.
Speaker 6 (13:01):
I don't get it. It doesn't do any like the
whole idea. Well, it gets my team fired up. Yeah,
it also got the other teams.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
It's true.
Speaker 2 (13:10):
That is zero.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
Okay, all right, how about that god Stan Fisher?
Speaker 5 (13:15):
Because I got him as the head of the Federal
Reserve from twenty fourteen to seventeen.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
Did I get the name?
Speaker 1 (13:21):
Oh okay, all right, our goldy great talk man, we
are talk We will talk to you next week. Everybody
listening to Goldie Evenings here on FNZ. See your brother,
see Bro
