Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, let's do this baby. This man is real.
He is not fake at all. He is a man
that's been a radio staple for two decades in Raleigh,
ninety nine to nine to a fan on in the middays.
You can hear his show seven o'clock weeknights here on
WFNZ in the Queen City, and you can hear him
every Tuesday. He is Goldie, Ladies and gentlemen, Adam gold Goldie,

(00:20):
what's happening? How you doing?

Speaker 2 (00:22):
I'm chilling man.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
I was amazed that Jerry had nothing to say after
the game.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
I felt good man, that dude feel gay. That does
not happen often. Honestly, Adam don't know when he ever
shut up before. I can't think of it the time.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
This is rair.

Speaker 4 (00:38):
I have no idea what. I've never heard of this before.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
This is a miraculous achievement by the Panthers. What did
you think of this Panther game? Goldie? We've got an
actual winning streak on our hands. What did you think
about it?

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Well, first, I would say that Lou Brown would say
two is not a winning streak. Three is a winning streak,
but it is that was as thorough a completed performance
as they put out there, maybe since in terms of
a game that had some stakes to it, right since

(01:13):
twenty one when they won their first three games of
the year. I was more impressed with the defense than
I was with anything, because Dallas has an elite offense
and the defense shut him down and that was that
was awesome. They made him one dimensional and that one
dimension was basically George Pickens.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
But man Rico Daddle, what do you have fifteen carries
of at least seven yards?

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Yes, fifteen seven or more? Dallas didn't have one.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
That was just unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
And the offensive line was the best performance.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
In terms of running by their offensive line to day,
and they passed blocked fine. It was the best performance
I have seen from that offensive line in a long time.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Harriet.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
The corgy is also very exciting.

Speaker 4 (02:04):
Oh that's big for us man Adam, I have a question,
are we insane? Two in this jumble in this jumbled
up NFC? Are Mack and I in the in the
positive fancier right now, happy where this is going? Are
we insane to look at the standings and like even
think about this team being a playoff team?

Speaker 2 (02:27):
Insane? Yeah? No, I wouldn't.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
I wouldn't say that puts you in an insane category.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
No asylum, no asylum.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
But hey, look, you know, there have been so few
opportunities for Panthers fans to care about the standings that
enjoyant while it lasts.

Speaker 5 (02:50):
Go to New York or actually go to New Jersey.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
Beat the Jets because the Jets are death warmed. Over
beat them four and three. When was the last time
they were over five hundred seven games into a season?

Speaker 5 (03:06):
Because that wasn't the case.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
In twenty one. You probably have to go back to eighteen. Yep,
the last time they were over five hundred seven games
into a season. So go ahead, beat the Jets and
enjoy it and enjoy where you know, because the schedule
gets real after that.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
So but I mean, who knows, get.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
A little confidence. I think the improvement in the defense
is noticeable. I think when you run the ball first,
you get to see that Bryce Young can be an
effective quarterback.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
You know, looking around the league, how many really.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
Good quarterbacks are there?

Speaker 2 (03:48):
Are there six really good quarterback to the NFL and
everybody else?

Speaker 4 (03:53):
It's a week the week basis everybody doldy Well, Josh
Allen was good to last night.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
What a crazy league? Though, that Atlanta team that did
that offensively didn't score a point against the Panthers, Like
AC brought that up on a text line like what
a crazy league? By the way, Goldie, here is your
answer and how dare you forget the work of one
Kyle Allen? Twenty nineteen. The Panthers started zero to two,
won their next four games, then lost badly to San Francisco.

(04:23):
But they were four and three at that point, and
then they proceeded to lose every game the rest of
the season. Oh man, you just picked out one bad season.
Oh god, anyway, and you wonder why you would. Actually,
we don't wonder why. We know why we're excited at
three and three, Goldie, What do you think of the

(04:48):
talk to us about the Hurricanes because we might have
been obsessing over the Panthers in college football since the weekend?
What do you think of of the start to the
season for the Canes? What sticks out to you?

Speaker 3 (05:01):
The first game was much better than the second game.
First game, they really didn't allow the Devils very much.
Second game they were sort of a mess with the puck,
and even though Philadelphia didn't generate a.

Speaker 5 (05:16):
Ton of offense. Philadelphia had way too.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
Many scoring chances for the head coaches liking, and Carolina
was somewhat lucky to win the game when that overtime
goal was waived off for being for having goaltender interference
and then Carolina won it like thirty five seconds later. Oh,
shut up, Harriet.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
She did not think it was.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
Goaltender interference, and that's the problem.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
No, So I think it's been good. A little bit
of an issue right now.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
I don't think Jacob Slavian is going to play tonight
in San Jose.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
He's dealing with some.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
Sort of a lower body issue. We'll see what how
long that's going to keep him out. He's the best
defensive defenseman in the NFL, in the NFL, in the NHL,
and he probably would be the best defensive defenseman in
the NFL.

Speaker 5 (06:08):
He's so good.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
But so that's gonna be something to watch. Like for me,
I'd rather see him not play the first, you know,
two months of the season and make sure that he's
as close to one hundred percent as he could possibly
be for the last, you know, four months into the playoffs.

Speaker 4 (06:29):
Adam, I have a hypothetical question, because, as you know
James Franklin fired by Penn State, so a lot of
UNC fans are already kind of angle with Hey, could
James Franklin potentially if they moved on from Belichick, replace
him as the tar heel head coach? But not looking
as this, If if State were to move on from

(06:51):
Dave Dorin, I think James Franklin would be a great
fit in Raleigh coaching the pack. If you could place
James Franklin as the head coach of NC State or UNC,
where would he fit best at in this hypothetical world.

Speaker 5 (07:06):
I'm going to give you a little backstory on James
frank James Franklin, before he was the head coach at Vanderbilt,
was an assistant coach and the head coach in waiting
at the University of Maryland. The athletic director at that
time was Debbie Yal.

Speaker 3 (07:26):
Now she's no longer the AD at State, but she
long long loved James Franklin and she wanted him to
follow Ralph Frigin at Maryland. When Debbie Yal left Maryland,
Frigin was still there and the incoming AD, who I

(07:48):
think was Kevin Trainwreck. I don't wear pants when I
interviewed Sean Miller Anderson and they decided that James Franklin
was not for them, which is the brilliant idea because
Franklin is really a great coach, but he does have
some limitations.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
He does.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
He would fit right in at NC State since they
don't win big games either, so he could go there.
But I think Franklin would be a great fit at
NC State, But I don't know that that's where I mean.
I think Franklin is gonna get another There'll be big
jobs opening up. I think Franklin's gonna get another big job.

(08:28):
But look's if NC State came calling, that would be
a great fit for him. It's gonna sound weird, But
unless Bill Belichick wants to walk away on his own,
I think he's the head coach of.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
Carolina next year.

Speaker 4 (08:42):
Do you so?

Speaker 1 (08:43):
What did you think about the rash of reports last
week and now Bill you know the school and Bill
denied it. Bill had his presser yesterday. What makes you
think that he's still gonna be there next season?

Speaker 3 (08:54):
Because his ego doesn't want to give up, and the
ego of the people who are really making the decisions
that UNC don't want to admit that they were potentially wrong.
They've invested this much, they're going to try and see
it through. I think what they would like and they

(09:14):
might try to do this. Some people try to create
an environment in which Bill does not want to stay.
And if they do that, like if they could convince,
if they could, you know, kind of orchestrate the firing
of Mike Lombardy, then Bill might go interesting that. I
think that's what it would take. I mean, I could

(09:36):
I could be completely wrong, but that's my read on
this situation is that Bill wants to try to.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
Make this work.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
The big money people at UNC think that this would
work if given time, even though they thought it would
have already started working. And I don't know if it
ever will. I mean, I think the odds are against it.
But as I've said from the beginning, I am here
for this experiment because I think it will be fascinating

(10:07):
to watch, and I really don't care if it works
or not. I'm here for the show.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
It is content, there is no denying no matter how
it goes from here. All right, Goldie, you are demand.
We will talk to you next week. Tell Harriet to
chill half. All right, Well, Harrie.

Speaker 3 (10:24):
And she and her brother Earl are going to the
spot today.

Speaker 1 (10:28):
All right, good she should be happier then she should
be happy. All right, Goldie, be good man. We will
talk to you next week.
