Speaker 1 (00:00):
Another event that's going on this weekend right here in Charlotte.
Zmax Dragway Charlotte Motor Speedway is also exciting as hell.
It has people fired up. It is the playoff race
for the Supermoto Cross drivers. And our next guest is
a guy that's won three championships. He is the four
(00:21):
seed in these playoffs. Bone, and he's a guy that's
got local ties. Native of Newport, North Carolina, is now
moving to the Charlotte area, making Charlotte his home base.
We're talking about Cooper Web and he joins us to
tell us what you will see at the Zmax Dragway
on Saturday. Cooper, what's going on, man?
Speaker 2 (00:40):
How you doing?
Speaker 3 (00:41):
Hey, guys, Hallio, thanks for having me on. I'm excited
to share our sport with you guys. Yeah, we're excited
to fire up for the playoffs this weekend in Charlotte.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
How did you like? Are you the type? Were you
the type of kid? Because I think Bone and I
were the type of kids that grew up playing sports
and then at some point we realized, crap, we can't
really play that good. Let's just start talking about it.
But were you like the type of kid that like
wanted to be on bikes and dirt bikes and drive
things around like when you were you know, when you
were little. Is that is this your whole life?
Speaker 3 (01:12):
Yeah, exactly, ma'am. When I was four years old, I
got my first dirt bike and the rest is history.
And now that's what I do for a profession. And
you know, I dabbled, like you said, with other stick
and ball sports and other extreme sports, but I was
really good at riding my dirt bike and that's what
I stuck with. And yeah, now I'm twenty nine years
old and three championships later, and I still still get
(01:33):
to do what I love every day, and that's riding
a dirt bike, and so it'll be doing this weekend racing.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
You won your third super Cross title earlier this year.
As you said, what do you think that meant you
for your legacy in this sport as one of the
all time greats?
Speaker 3 (01:48):
I think it added to to a very pristine list. Right.
So there's only I think six people to ever have
had three championships in this sport. So for me, that
kind of puts me in a very specific category, which
I'm blessed to have. And yeah, like you had said,
I'm from Newport, North Carolina, smalltown, North Carolina. I'm one
of North Carolina. I'm North Caroline's only four fifty supercross champion.
(02:11):
So just stuff like that. It's pretty pretty dang amazing
when you really look back and think of your career.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
All Right, So we've been doing these like promotional giveaways
of tickets right for supermotocross, and I had a motocross
fan say, Mac that description right there, Man, I could
tell you hadn't seen it live.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
You haven't.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
You haven't seen it live, So I'm going to ask
you and I have not. And there's a lot of
listeners that haven't but might be intrigued right now, might
be thinking, Hey, I might want to do this on Saturday.
What what what's the experience about if a fan comes
out to the playoff event on Saturday at Charlotte Motor
Speedways EMACS Dragway. What's what's the experience going to be?
Speaker 3 (02:49):
Yeah, it's it's going to be a first for a
lot of people. So basically what we do is we
have the track set up on the inside of the
Zmax D Dragway with all the dirt. We have an
obstacles we race. It's us. We're the best twenty riders
in the world. Like I said, we're ranked. I'm ranked
number four, I'm coming in number two on the Yamaha
and uh. We raised two twenty minute sessions and we
(03:13):
all go from the same gate drop, so there's twenty
of us going into the first corner. We're banging bars
where you know, bouncing off each other. We're allowed to
rub and like NASCAR, rubbins racing in our sport, so
we have that. We have fan engagement. You can come
meet us, We'll sign autographs, we have you know, music,
live music, DJ, everything set up for the pit paddock.
It's a cool experience for that you can come up
(03:35):
close and personal and see the bike, see the meet
the riders, and and to kick it off for myself,
I actually own a place in Iron Station, North Carolina.
It's called Top Gun and Max. We're gonna do a
ride day for fans and young riders to come out
the day before the Dmax and have an experience to
meet me and be on track and have that experience.
(03:58):
So it's just gonna be a a full weekend of
fun activities and for us, it's our first playoff of
the of the season, and like any anything, the first
playoff game of the year is always a big one.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
You're building a home off Lake Norman right now, so
you and I are basically neighbors at this point in time.
What's you guys gonna be riding B seventy seven? You would,
I what, what's what's next after racing? What do you
want to do in the in the Lake Norman area
in Charlotte and surrounding.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Yeah, so I I grew up place on the coast,
but I've lived in Moorsville for a while now I
just we're building the house there, and like I said,
I've invested to a track over in the Iron Station
kind of Gastonia area. Try to get back to the sport.
We have it open for, you know, people of all ages,
of all all sizes. They can come out with their family,
(04:47):
friends whoever come out and ride and just eat, whether
it's learning how to ride or if you're an experienced racer,
or if you want to just come check it out
for the first time. So that's kind of my my
next steps. Obviously, I'm still racing professionally. Everything's great there,
but I had opportunity to get back to the sport
in that way and try to grow it. So yeah,
if anyone's listening, I want to come check us out Thursday,
(05:08):
September fourth at Top Gun MX. We're online and on
social media. Make sure you check that out and just
trying to inspire the youth and keep our sport growing
as much as we can. Back to the.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
Macabe joke comes out there and takes a ride on
those things.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
Oh jeez. Yeah, thanks, you guys are welcome. I'll personally
teach you. How about that?
Speaker 1 (05:28):
Oh no, I think you might want to stick to
inspiring the youth. I don't think my old behind needs
that needs to be out there on that. But hey, man,
will appreciate you coming on. Sounds like you're gonna be it.
Sounds like you're invested in the community. We got a
couple of texterters that are shouting out Top Gun MX
that are familiar with you. One guy says, Cooper web
is demand. So I think you're a guy with these
local ties that we can pull for on Saturday and
(05:51):
go out and see him and support him. If if
you're a motorsports fan, Cooper, best of luck on Saturday
here in Charlotte. Man appreciate you.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
Yep, yeah, I appreciate it. Guys, make sure you're it
on number two. That's me. So it's sweet for the time.
You'll have a good day, all right.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Good luck to you. There you go, and again remember
Charlotte Motor Speedways EMACS Dragway on Saturday if you want
to check out these riders.
