Speaker 1 (00:02):
When come on sty oh is you guys are the
most entertaining sports program in the world. Bone Gobin, no, no,
stop working. You and I are a couple eating a
lady in the tramp. You're the lady on the tram. Yeah,
come on, come on, baby.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
I was Boopy Boopy McLean Man. That's a great name
all the bard.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
Good morning, Charlotte, Welcome board, Happy new year, everybody, hope
you had yourself a damn good new year. And we
begin the new year with a high intensity Panther football
Friday on this radio show.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
The division is on the line.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Yeah, I know we can lose the Falcons to get in,
but honestly, I gotta be honest, that doesn't even sound
that cool. But the Panthers beating the Bucks tomorrow and
winning their way in and having a winning season, that
sounds pretty damn cool to me. Can they do it?
Where are your mind's at? Are you feeling good? Do
you have the Panther paranoia creeping in? We will talk
(01:21):
all of that today on the Mac and Bone radio show.
We've got to delve into that over and over again,
and we hope that you bring the high Panther intensity.
We have not been here in a while, ladies, Well
we were here last week actually and the week before that.
But I mean, you know what I mean in terms
of end of the season playing for a division, it's
(01:43):
been a minute. It has certainly been a minute from
the start of the show here. We will recap the
college football playoff games here in a minute. Oh miss
upsetting Georgia late night last night. If you did not
stay up and watch thirty nine thirty four, we'll talk
about that. We'll talk about all the college football play games.
We got some hoop stuff to work in. Hornets back
(02:03):
in action tonight after losing an entertaining game. Would have
lost nonetheless to Golden State on New Year's Eve, and
we have a well way rant for the ages, ladies
and gentlemen. Was he being a complete and total jerk?
We will ask that question coming up at six forty five.
I wonder how Fitty will answer that question. We've got
that coming up in a little bit. But today is
(02:27):
a big time panther football Friday bone band and his
panther gear. As I am, I don't know what Panther
Fitty's doing over there today. He did not get the
panther gear memo that's concerning that boning.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
Good morning to you. Mech on this.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
Trying to see what day we're on here, It's not Monday.
We did a show Monday, right, we were Monday. I
know it's not Tuesday. I've completely lost track of what
day of the week it is. Yesterday felt like a Sunday.
What it wasn't a Sunday. Today feels like a Monday.
But yet then we're off again tomorrow. Panther's play on Saturday.
So what's Sunday gonna feel like? I am exhausted, Mac,
(03:02):
I need a day tomorrow sort of regroup myself. Well,
if I didn't know, like if I just worked in
any line of work or whatever, and I did, and
this wasn't like the most Mammoth Friday Panther show we
have done in like eight years, yeah, I would definitely
not know what day it is, because yesterday it did
feel like it was a Sunday, and I was getting
ready to come back to work on a Monday, but
it kind of felt like a Saturday because of college football.
It felt like every day in the one Yesterday, that's true,
(03:25):
that's true. Well, I hope you had a good New Year.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
Bony.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
I would trust that you were out till about five
am raising hell in dirty mow. I watched the I
watched the ball drop Mac the other night. Actually three
in the morning. I saw a drop. I got up
to P. I pound you did not stay awake to midnight? No,
I fell asleep, but I did. I did see the
ball drop shout out to the West coast three am.
Ball drop got up to P. What did the TV? Oh,
it's the la version of this.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
I'll watched this.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
In the New Year at three am the other day
and they said I couldn't stay awake anymore about that?
That is that is sad, bunny, Like you watched the
Miami Ohio State game. I trust, yes. Yeah, so there's
like a forty minute window there that you just couldn't
I couldn't power through. I was out, man, and it
wasn't one of those ones were even fighted like. I
don't remember how it happened. I was just out. They thing,
you know, I was. Ohio State was out and there
(04:12):
I went. I gotta be honest, I was so. I
was so wired on New Year's Eve watching the Buckeyes lose.
I mean, uh, that was that was an amazing way
to ring in the new year. Now, my wife probably
disagrees that she's sat there on her phone while I
freaked out over Miami beating Ohio States. We don't have
a cow. You don't have a We don't have a
couch sponsor. Do we like a furniture sponsor. We don't
(04:33):
have one of those doing. It's one of the biggest
mysteries around because right now, right now, Mac, there's a
multiple fan bases now in teams that may need to
making a couch here for the new year. Seriously, none
better than the buck Eyes. I thoroughly enjoyed that ass whooping.
And I do mean ass whooping in the trenches. Miami
beat the ever living crap out of Ohio State. And
and by the way, we shouldn't we should stop being surprise.
(04:56):
We said it early in the season when I before
Miami had the couple slip. My god, this team obliterates
people in the trenches both sides of the ball. And
you saw that bone on Saturday night, the O line
getting after it. This defense had giving up eight points
a game all season, and Miami just run it right.
(05:17):
Adam Fletcher is an absolute animal at running back, Carson
Beck was an animal on third and long when he
had to put the shoulder down and run a dude
over and then on the other side of the ball.
What more can you say about Rubin Bain, about mesidor
about all those guys lightfoot, all those dudes upfront.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
Man, I do believe bone.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
That Ohio State's offense, after further review, really not all
that the three best defenses they played Texas they scored fourteen,
they won, they scored fourteen, Indiana they scored thirteen, and
Miami they scored fourteen. They beat up on a bunch
of scrubbinos all year. They're the defense good. The offense honestly,
(05:58):
even with Jeremiah Smith, not that damn good. Yeah, when
it mattered, we said all year that Ohio State is
kind of you know, when does their season begin? And
I know that for them it's Michigan. But when it
truly began here at the end with Indiana and in Miami,
they they lost both those football games. I thought big
(06:19):
Cat Mac driving in this morning, when I was listening
to him on Pardon My Take, I had a great
question that he asked, did Michigan get Ohio State again?
The reason is they put Well, Listen, they put so
much in to that Michigan game this year because they
got their title last year. They wanted to prove because
that Michigan game, they have not got it in the
(06:39):
last four years. Did they put everything they had into Michigan,
Because as soon as that game ended, basically their season
ended there Indiana and Miami.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
The next two games they played.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
I think they actually played two really good freaking defenses
and couldn't do much more than score thirteen. And you
know what, Mac, we could give credit to Chris the Ball,
who I've never believed in. I think now I need
to say my bad to Mario and Cristibaal that Miami team,
the way they played with physicality. Also need to say
the College Football Playoff expanded in year number two is
(07:12):
given us immense parody now with the aforementioned Bama, Ohio State,
Georgia all out. But I think the biggest key mack
for Miami might be the performance of one Michael Irvin.
He's now added Ray Lews to that mix as well.
If Whole miss can't figure out away Mac to slow
down Michael Irvin, how they going to beat the kickout baby?
Speaker 2 (07:33):
Or is he going.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
Is it going to be another BATA game? Another belt
to booty game for Michael Irvin. That's his big postgame ritual.
But anyway, he's added ray Lewis to the mix. Now
who's yelling at him during the game. This is a
lot going on. I love it, man, I'm all about
the you, baby, I told you football kniac Mac was
going to show up. I love that game. And yeah,
I mean you can apologize to Mario Chris Ball. I
(07:54):
mean I've doubted him too. I just I just think
it took him a while to get this thing developed.
But he has developed a team that is a bunch
of apps badasses in the trenches. He does deserve major credit,
There's no doubt about it. And you and I have
doubted him. He has come through and he has come
through for the ACC too. This is big for ACC respectability.
Miami will now play Ole Miss. So much for my
(08:16):
dreams bone of predicting two straight national champions in college
football that ended in one game. My Georgia Bulldogs went
by bye last night in a game that was absolutely
amazing thirty nine thirty four. There was a weird safety
at the end when Georgia tried to do a throwback
kick return, the guy through it and basically up against
(08:36):
the pylon. But anyway, there was really a game winning
field goal by this guy with a bionic leg for
Ole Miss Canaro.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
Is that how you say it? Can arrow? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (08:47):
This Cornelius, North Carolina. Oh, I didn't know that the
community school of Davidson. Yeah, I did. I did not
know he was the local.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
One of the media members, I Scott Fowler, were tweet
and CARBONI you were talking about him whitely recruited kid,
You're right, and all of a sudden, mister biotic lag
out there last night. What I want a performance by him?
He hit fifty five, fifty six and then hit the
game winner last night Trinidad Chamberis was unbelievable. Georgia fought,
(09:16):
tied the game, they were down ten, tied it up
on a field goal late. But you got to give
old miss credit and you got to be happy for
those kids there and the coaches, everybody that's there. As
Lane Kiffen went to watch Kim Mulky and her LSU
Lady Tigers last night, Bone his former team, was basically
(09:40):
announcing to the whole country Lane who Yeah, that's impressive, man.
Speaker 2 (09:44):
Good for them.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
Well, and if you're in the storylines, I mean Pete
Golding and the job he's doing for Ole Miss. You
mentioned Chambliss, a Division two quarterback who came in with
just thoughts of being a backup, and all of a
sudden he was absolutely unbelieva Bowl last night, as he
has been for most of the year. So you've got
the Old Miss storyline there, You've got the Miami storyline
(10:07):
or written off Chris Ball has been a lot by
me included, but the U website they are back to
a certain brand that they're used to way back in
the day. Then you've got on the other side, of course,
Signetti in the absolutely all time sports history coaching job
that he's doing. And then of course they're playing a
division rival at Oregon. So if you're in the storylines
and a little bit of fresh blood, this semi final
(10:30):
is for you, no doubt. It's all different, man. It's
the nil era. Thatact is what it is. It spreads
the talent around, man, it really does. And when Georgia
loss last night, it became in the new twelve team
playoff Era, seven of the teams out of eight with
buys Indiana, the only one would to buy to get through.
So these are the teams Bone that would have been
in the in most cases not necessarily last year at
(10:53):
Boise State, but this year now they changed the seating,
this would have been your four team college football playoff Indiana.
I guess what'll kick everybody's ass? Yeah, and remember when
those teams in the semis got their butts blasted. I
think what we're finding out was a weird way of
phrasing that. But work with me here, But I think
what we're finding out is those teams that got blown
out Bone and they probably would have lost in you
(11:14):
know what I mean, but lost for first game or
so or whatever. So yeah, it does it is. It
does feel like there's a lot of parody. Although we
do have a dominant team in Indiana. It sounds it
just sounds weird to say, but we have a dominant
team in Indiana. How about five of the last six
teams remaining, including the UH last night, Five of the
(11:36):
last six teams remaining all were led by Saban guys. Right,
the one team that did not have the same we got.
So the final four teams back crystal Ball, Golding landing
and uh Signetty all Saban guys assistant, Yes, Kirby smart
Saban guy. The one team that did not hear yesterday
(11:58):
at the end of the day was h Alabama. Alabama
is the one team of the last six that played
that did not have ironically ironically might you might you
might want to you might want to go check the
family photo albums. I loved watching Alabama get their ass whipped.
I'm not gonna lie to you, and I listened they
beat Oklahoma. But I said before the playoff, I didn't
(12:20):
think either one of those teams were any good, Alabama
or Oklahoma, like in terms of playoff good like. I
believed all along Notre Dame was better than both of
those teams. And I'm pretty sure we could sit here
now and say Notre Dame is better in both Alabama
and Oklahoma. That's the only reason Alabama was in this
round is because they played in Oklahoma team that is
(12:41):
so offensively challenged it's ridiculous. But ow this Alabama team
bone for the last six weeks or so seven weeks
however long it is, has not looked the part. And
you saw it again yesterday. Listen, Ty Simpson got hurt,
but quite honestly, they played better when Mokett went into game.
They actually put a drive together when Mockt went in
(13:04):
the game. Indiana's defense is so underrated. They didn't have
their best pass rusher up front, and it didn't matter.
They still dominated Alabama Alabama and been able to run
all season. That didn't change yesterday. And that Indiana offense, Man,
what a mixture between a lethal running game with him
being black and then Fernando Mendoza making place through the
(13:26):
air man. That was a statement yesterday. I also don't
think their receivers get enough credit either, Man Cooper and Surat.
I mean those guys, Charley Becker, don't forget him, man,
I know he's making plays too. They don't really make
a lot of mistakes. It's just they don't beat themselves.
I mean, you know, I've I've for about a year
plus now, I've always thought, hey, when when is Cinderella?
(13:49):
Was it going to end for Signetty? But it's just
simply not And they look quite their a team right now. Yeah,
they're not Cinderella. That No, No, they're not. I'll talk
about it. From last year to the beginning of this year,
I thought, man, at some point, Indiana is gonna at
least come back to Earth, but they're not. Mendoza is
an absolute character, so fun to watch and listen to
after after the games, we're gonna play this clip of him.
(14:13):
He is so You're right, he is so funny to
listen to. I mean, he's he's great to watch. He's
like a combination of like Kirk Cousins, Tim Tebow. He's
just he's all these guys wrapped up into one. He's
so amusing. He's so he's just so amusing.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
He really is.
Speaker 1 (14:30):
Listen to this clip as he gives love. This was
on the ABC Interview or ESPN whatever it was ESPN
interview right after the game. He's giving love to his
o lineman as only Fernando Mendoza can do.
Speaker 4 (14:42):
Yeah, it was a gut out, ride it out game.
And shout out to the Hoggies. The Hoggies did fantastic today.
With about them, we wouldn't be thirty eight three the
Hoggies that I believe our Hoggies are the best hoggises
in the nation and justly can't thank him enough, you
know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
Like, No, he's a great.
Speaker 4 (14:56):
Group of guys, but also a great group of football
players and just speak, such a testament to all the hoggies.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
I heard that and said, Matt's gonna love that, and
we're now going to call offensive lineman the hoggas hoggies. Baby,
we got the best hoggies around.
Speaker 5 (15:11):
That.
Speaker 2 (15:11):
That game was good to me. That game.
Speaker 1 (15:13):
In that game being Bama Indiana, that ended three nothing.
When Bama goes for it deep in their own territory,
and a lot of times, you know, the decision might
be okay, but it's the it's the play call going
forward on fourth down that's the problem. I thought both
those things were a problem. The fact that he went
for it showed that you knew you weren't the better
team to bore yesterday. You went for it and then
(15:35):
you run left with a wide receiver in Bernard and
that right there, even if we think they had no
chance anyway, that showed Indiana, Oh they're paniking already. They
went for it down three nothing in the first half
in their own territory and after that it was over.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:50):
Was that a sign of like desperation or score like
every possession or something. I'm still trying to figure out
what I think about all Kirby Smart's fourth down go goes.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
Yeah, last night, some of them Mark, some of them
did not.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
I mean, this dude broke out a fake punt reverse
pass on a punt from his own twenty nine. It worked,
but then later in a half they're in similar territory,
Go Ford, don't get it. But then it ultimately ended
up not mattering. Oh miss ended up going for it
and getting stuff going on that was like punts were illegal.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
I think.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
But then again, the two teams where they played the
first time only punted twice.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
Maybe they thought.
Speaker 1 (16:30):
Puns were illegal. Yeah, there was a lot going on it.
Every time Mac you you looked away for a second
when you thought a team was just putting the football way,
all of a sudden, chaos broke, especially on the Georgia side.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
Thank god.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
That game was was good though, because those first two games,
I mean, I guess Alabama getting killed is entertaining to me.
I really don't mind if that's a blowout, but the
first game was an absolute newsfest. I mean, I'll shout
out Texas. Texas defense. Those guys are as advertised, but
bone I mean, were they basically running? Did they have
the same game plans of Panthers against the Seattle offensively
(17:02):
that was is that where they got their inspiration from?
Because it looked like what I saw at the bank
on Sunday. It's like that. It's like the game party
the night before on New Year's Eve, and it came
in with the hangover and didn't really want to do
very much. Texas Tech average despite their defense being the
calling guard. They averaged forty four points a game going
into the game. So I thought, you know what, this
(17:23):
was kind of a hard game to predict who may
win that game. But I thought, hey, this is gonna
be I said the other day, it's gonna be a
very entertaining football game. And I said, old Miss Georgia
was the least game that I was looking forward to,
was the least. I think you talk about a misfire
by old Bonjaruni over here. My big Georgia to win
it all, so don't worry about misfires. And I didn't
have the guts. I was sniffing. All I know was
(17:45):
Texas Tech Ohio State. I was, yeah, yeah, you might
have given too much credit to old Baron Morton there. I
I was sniffing all around that my I really thought
Miami could do it. I did in the stones to
pick it out right upset, I danced all around it
and didn't do it. But anyway, Yeah, after further review,
Cody Campbell, the billionaire down there that is funding all
(18:05):
the nil and stuff, he might want to go buy
a quarterback. Yeah, that should be on his list. Bone
their offense look good against let me check my notes
big twelve defenses. I think we saw the difference be
you know, a Big twelve defense at Oregon's defense yesterday.
I might want to go call up your guy Mesta
Maker from North Texas, the freshman, and say, hey, what's
the good day to get you here in the lobek
(18:25):
right right in the same state someone like that. Yeah,
I think they got to spend there. They spent on
everything else. I think they got to spend because that
kid looked horrendous yesterday. I mean just low tor rent.
I mean he's throwing. He threw two picks to one
freshman yesterday. That was his best target for that Kid's good.
That kid's gonna be like a Finny's gonna give him
a couple of years. It gonna be like a top
ten pick. Fiddy Finny right in the draft. Sure didn't
(18:46):
say Fitty there. Fitty was a top ten pick in
the Church League Hoops draft, though, I do know that.
By the way, more college football tonight, you got a
few assorted bowl games. All we care about is the
Mayo Bowl and Charlotte. The Deeks try to finish off
surprisingly good season under first year coach. Why do I
was blank on his first name, Jake Dickard?
Speaker 2 (19:06):
Is that it? I'd always struggle to figure out is
it Jake? Really?
Speaker 1 (19:11):
But anyway, they're playing Misissippi State tonight, Hornets and the
Bucks on on at eight o'clock tonight in Milwaukee. Had
my first trip to a Hornets game. Bone this This
was very nice. Wasn't the weekend? It was the Bucks game.
We had a blast, a whole McClain family there. That
reimagine Spectrum Center. They got bar areas all over the place.
(19:37):
I like, y'all got to check that out. It's completely
different in the concourse, man, with all the different bar areas.
I think he went on Monday. That was the right
day that you. I believe that wasna. It also makes
it confusing, man, because the Hornets and Bucks played tonight
pregame here at seven on Sports Radio ninety two seven,
myself and Smoke one wig on the pregame show.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
That oh Smoke, come about that smoky baby.
Speaker 1 (20:02):
All right, Smoke, I'm seeing you and I'm coming in
standing around because when you're doing the show with Smoke,
you pay respect.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
You show up and do it in studio. So I'm
doing it. There we go. Colin told me to be
here in studio.
Speaker 1 (20:14):
Man, look at that bony Look at that commitment on
a Friday night. I would not. I mean, of course
I would do it, not just because Colin told me
I had to be here. I'd do it anyway. Fitting
I got some damn countdown to kickoff Saturday edition tomorrow.
Hiped up man, when we come back, speaking of that
our hunt and more coming back, there's a huge loss
on the butt side. You're also going to hear brad
(20:37):
Zick and Avero talk about various stuff as well.
Speaker 2 (20:40):
Sports Radio ninety seven WFNZ.
Speaker 6 (21:01):
I tried out to get selfish with it. Obviously selfishly
is thinking I would.
Speaker 2 (21:05):
I would.
Speaker 6 (21:06):
I would want to be out there and just say
just go play because it's something that I want to do.
I want to be a part of it. I want
to be in that locker room whenever, you know, the
good things happened, and just kind of saying I want
to be a part of that. So that's selfishly, but realistically,
if I'm not able to, you know, do my job
at high level, I think it'll be selfish.
Speaker 2 (21:23):
Mean that is Rob Hunt.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
This week, I had been really hopeful bone did we
get the big fellow back and we would have our
preferred first choice offensive line for the first time in
what feels like ages this season. That was him earlier
in the week, and that's pretty honest right there, Like
he's not going to force it if he feels like
he's hurting the team. We had a texter earlier in
(21:47):
the week say he tore his bicep around the same
time the hunted. He's like, man, I could barely lift
like ten pounds still. So then we had Canalis yesterday
do his final presser of the week and it sounded
he's the facility listened as questionable. But I kind of don't.
I kind of don't have my hopes up anymore about it.
As a matter of fact, I think Canalis told Joe
(22:09):
Person of the Athletic that yes, he's he's more optimistic
about David Moore, who's also trying to come back from IR.
He said he's more optimistic about more playing the more
he's also or DJ Moore. David Moore is also listed
as questionable as well. All the more reason Matt to
get a win on Saturday and get ready to host
(22:30):
a postseason games. You get this sense maybe Rob Hunt
need one more week to go, or maybe, I mean
that's certainly I mean, I guess maybe if he's not
one hundred percent physically, they'll be cautious with that. But
what an emotional wif that would be because of the
energy that he plays with, that would be as much
mac a physical boost, it will be an emotional boost
(22:51):
for this team because I think they kind of rally
around that personality with Dran. I didn't think when we
were doing like the training camp shows and doing the
roster stuff, we were kind of questioning in kind of
harsh towards because we thought the wide receiver room was
a lot deeper than it actually was. We were rather
harsh on we were rather harsh on David Moore. How
does he still make the team? Is it just because
(23:11):
of his past with Canalis as this season's gone along
and we've seen Excel not make a leap Renfro and
if the one got traded in that in that process,
Renfro has not been what we thought he may be.
I say, right now, this team I think has miss
David Moore, and that would be that would be a
big help, because I think they trust David Moore out
(23:33):
there in this spot much more than Excel in terms
of getting the football.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
I'd definitely like to have him this week.
Speaker 1 (23:39):
And I'm not saying he's going to go off nine
for one thirty, right, I'm definitely not saying that. But
two big third down catches please, for twenty three yards
something like that be a threat, you know, Like I
could see that he plays special teams too. I could
see that happening. So anyway, it's in Canalis's words, he's
more likely to play. But neither one has been ruled
(24:00):
out just yet. They have ruled out though Claude Cherlis
he is out. We'll see if Chris Barnes is healthy
enough to play. If he is, he'll start. If not,
he'll be Baan Martin Scott next to next to Rose Boom.
The Bucks have a mammoth injury, though Jamel Dean is
their best corner and he has already been ruled out
(24:21):
of this game. Combine this with the fact that Byron
McCullum bone right before the last game against the Bucks,
went on ir for the season. They don't have either
starting corner in this game. Bryce Young, you need to
eat son. You need to make big plays like you
did against them the first time.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
Bone.
Speaker 1 (24:40):
Two of their top threes are rookies, Two of their
top three corners are rookies, and they don't even have
their number one, Jamel Dean like they did last time.
And that means we need our rookie at wide out
to have a big game here as well has two.
I mean, we're talking we need ninety five one hundred
yards or more. We need that type of performance from
t back in this game because we're talking about miss
(25:02):
and David Moore here. Because of the lack of options
ruly the receiving game, this has to be a T
Mac early and off Poker two and t Mac and Coker.
You're right, and Coker, those two guys they had nine
catches combined in the first game. Let's do something like
that again. Maybe we can make it an even ten boys,
because those corners, man, those corners are there for the
(25:24):
freaking taken. They are tomorrow. But Bryce has to do it.
They have to actually throw the ball downfield. Lost to
New Orleans, have to t Mack had two catches on
four targets for twenty five yards against Tampa. You're just
talking about it right there. Six catches, ten targets, seventy
three yards. Last week one catch, four targets, six yards,
(25:48):
so he got seventy five a couple weeks ago they won.
He didn't do much the other two games they've lost.
T Mack is such a difference maker in what he
does for this team in the wins end of allSome,
I think that illness was part of the problem that
in the Seattle I think you had the bird flu.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
I think you had that. Damn See, the whole offense
had the seahawk flu.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
Man.
Speaker 2 (26:07):
There ain't no doubt about that the other day. So anyway, I'm.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
Looking forward to seeing how this goes tomorrow. I'm so
stoked for it, and we want to gauge the confidence
of panther Nation bone. We are a shaky group. We
are a shaky group. We can easily have our minds
go to panther paranoia. But it's supposed to be a
good Panther week. I got my chart right here, Bone.
It's supposed to be good Panthers showing up. See I've
(26:33):
lost track of my weeks, but I think you are correct.
Yet supposed to be good Panthers showing up? Is we
according to this chart right here?
Speaker 2 (26:39):
Now?
Speaker 1 (26:40):
We also Bone have the Falcons avenue in because the
Falcons beat the Rams on Monday night, this thing is
still alive to where even if we lose, if the
Falcons beat the Saints, and the Saints won't have Chris
o'lave bloodclot issues, so they're not gonna have one of
Tyler Shuck's top weapons. Dave Canalis was asked, I think
(27:03):
this was on Tuesday, the day after the Falcons went
over the Rams. Are you at least aware of the
Falcons Plan B playoff scenario? For you?
Speaker 7 (27:13):
We you know, we're aware of all those scenarios, and
it's a it's a pretty simple path. You know, we
had to handle business and win the game, and that's
got to be our focus first and foremost. And you know,
a team that I really respect and that we just
played a couple of weeks ago, So we have to
approach this thing like we didn't just play them. Don't
take anything for granted. Make sure we're on the details,
and all the other scenarios will play out how they will.
(27:34):
You know, it was watching the game last night. I
watch every every game on Monday night, and you know
in this one right here, it's got implications, you know.
But at the same time, the focus has to be
there for us to be able to handle business and
play our best ball.
Speaker 1 (27:45):
That's a different answer than Bryce game, though, isn't it.
Bryce acted like he didn't know what was going on
at all. Rice didn't know any of the scenarios he did.
That kind of reminded me of Sean Payton acting like
he didn't know his New Year's Eve the other day.
Speaker 2 (27:57):
I don't know if I believe either one of you.
It's on them this year. The date of New Year's
Eves tug up on John Payton.
Speaker 1 (28:03):
I have a confession to make bone, Okay, in the
second half of the Rams Falcons, I was rooting for
the Rams.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
How does that strike you a little bit? Well, it's not.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
It's not shocking because you could talk about having to
root for a team, but ultimately, if you hate that team,
it can be hard to root for them no matter what. Like,
I know a lot of you know friends of mine
that air Panther fans were like real fired up about
the Falcons. I once it looked like the Falcons were
gonna blow a twenty four to three lead, not quite
twenty eight to three, I wanted to see them pete
down their leg I have to be honest with you
(28:39):
now this. If God forbid we lose tomorrow, I'm sure
I'll quickly change. And on Sunday, I'm sure I'll be
mister you know, dirty bird. But I really don't want
anything to do with the Falcons getting us into the
playoffs right now. I just I keep coming back to this.
If we aren't good enough to beat this Bucks team
that is one in seven in their last a honestly,
(29:01):
we don't deserve to be a playoff team.
Speaker 2 (29:02):
I just that is.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
I keep coming back to that. If we really deserve
to be there, we've been slaping down. We should win
this damn game. Yes, take put it in your own hands,
and you have to depend on the Falcons that can
go any direction. It's annoying to me, it's the most
NFC South thing of all NFC South things. At the
Saints and the Falcons have the big matchup in games
(29:24):
where they can't win the division, right, they have the
big matchup. Not obviously it's a big matchup for us here,
but the deciding matchup ultimately Saints Falcons, two teams that
are out of it, is going to decide to fain this.
How do you feel, Panther Fitty, even though you're not
wearing Panther gear on the biggest Panther Friday and eight
years Panthers you tomorrow about this Falcons Avenue, I like
(29:46):
almost don't even want to like again Sunday morning. If
we need it, I'm sure I'll be different. But right now,
it's just win this damn game. I honestly believe it's
a better team than Tampa.
Speaker 2 (29:57):
Win it. Man.
Speaker 8 (29:58):
I hear you Mac like there's something said about us
just going up there and taking it and winning this thing.
I guess you could compare it like to whenever, like
Bone and I maybe find ourselves in a situation where
like maybe I need Duke to to beat a certain
ACC team to help us in an ACC race. Maybe
Duke or Duke's pulling for Carolina to help Duke in
an acc race.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
It's kind of like kissing your sister.
Speaker 8 (30:20):
Sometimes you don't want to talk about something, but you know,
but I just I don't know. Man, Like if if
that's what it takes, and that's what it takes, if
we lose on Saturday in the moment, I'll be disappointed,
But on Sunday at one o'clock, I'll go buy a
damn fout because.
Speaker 2 (30:35):
You're gonna make the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
I mean, like I said, I said, I think what
Mac's changed by Sunday. But right now, like I'm gonna
look at this way to bone, We've had how many
chances all we gonna do.
Speaker 2 (30:45):
Is beat the Saints. One time we beat champs who'd
have hats and T shirts.
Speaker 8 (30:47):
Yeah, if we don't went on, sorry, that'll be three
blown chances to win the division.
Speaker 2 (30:51):
At that point, I'm just kind of like, man, we
done f it up.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
You know.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
I think what Mac is saying here, and I think
I get it.
Speaker 1 (30:59):
Also, there's narrative that if the Panthers did lose the
Falcons then help the Panthers out. All people are gonna
talk about and all the naysayers and the doubters BacT
that we deal with, and we're gonna hear how the
Panthers backed into it, and.
Speaker 2 (31:14):
They wouldn't be right when they say that. No, it'd
be accurate, but again annoying.
Speaker 1 (31:17):
After a week of hearing, the Panthers watched the Seattle
they lost to Tampa.
Speaker 2 (31:21):
They needed a weird scenario with that one. I don't.
I just want them to win the game, end it,
and then let's talk about the next opponent.
Speaker 1 (31:27):
That would be the most NFC Southway to crown a
champ this year, and it definitely would be.
Speaker 8 (31:31):
But what if back to back losses and we make
the playoffs guarantee us a win in the wildcard round.
Speaker 2 (31:37):
I don't think it does.
Speaker 1 (31:38):
I think it guarantees the opposite, like if we are
and then again, we're so schizophrenic. Who knows. Maybe it
just sending you two Dolphins would show up next week.
But again I can't state enough. Man, if you're the
team I think you are, Panthers, you win this game
tomorrow like a point blank period.
Speaker 2 (31:53):
Man, like that Bucks team.
Speaker 1 (31:55):
If you let a Bucks team off the mat that's
been laying on the mat for two months straight, Shame
on you, man, Shame on you. We do also, Mac
hate the fact that the Saints are involved, because the
Saints got the Panthers twice this year. In my head,
I'm thinking, are they gonna wull they get us a
third time? You gonna shuck us again?
Speaker 8 (32:11):
We're gonna get shucked for a third time, Matt, someone's
getting shot, basically mad, We're gonna shuck around and find out.
Speaker 1 (32:19):
All right, let's play a couple of these clips here
real quick. Let's get to Let's get to at least
one of them. Let's get to the one about the
Playbone calls to Mitchellpalooza, the Mitchell Evans sneak.
Speaker 2 (32:31):
They finally done, did it boning.
Speaker 1 (32:33):
They put in a quarterback sneak using one of these
guys bones credit he called it. Mitch is the guy
we used. I'm just glad we did it and it
actually worked. Brad itzick Oc talked about.
Speaker 2 (32:44):
It for Mitch.
Speaker 9 (32:44):
It's something that we've actually, you know, he threw it
at me really early in the year, in the off
season as well, but we've been working on it for
weeks and uh, he's done a great job. Just the
biggest thing is being consistent with your cadence. You go
back to his college clips and he's he's done a
good job of protecting the ball and making sure his
pad levels right, uh and finding the crease right. You
don't want to run, you know, right into perhaps their
(33:07):
best plugger up front. You know you've got a guy
like Vita Vea right and you want to make sure
that you you know, you understand, Okay, where is he stunting?
Speaker 2 (33:15):
What gap is he fitting?
Speaker 9 (33:16):
Want to make sure you find the little crease so
you can keep your pad level down and get the
yard we need. But Mitch did a great job of
that over the last handful of weeks, just making sure that,
you know, invoking confidence and Dave to call it, and
then for the old line, just being consistent with your cadence.
He did a really good job with owning that piece
of it too.
Speaker 2 (33:35):
I called it a toush push, but is it a
more traditional sneak? What would you call it? Yeah? We
we didn't.
Speaker 9 (33:41):
We didn't push the tush, but you know, Mitch did
a good enough job of driving his legs and keeping
his pad level down. Maybe something we can grow to
add more bodies in the box. I don't know that
we're gonna become the Philadelphia Eagles anytime soon. But at
the same time, you know, anytime you have a weapon
like that that can take a snap under center for
us and Mitch, you know, we feel comfortable with him
(34:01):
doing that stuff.
Speaker 1 (34:02):
They're gonna say back when they're pushing them, move Mitch,
get out the way. I said, move Mitch, get out
the way. Anybody there really two thousands.
Speaker 2 (34:15):
Oh no, we know what you're doing. It just didn't
sound quite as cold from you.
Speaker 1 (34:19):
We have called for that mac a lot this year
to utilize the tight ends, like either Tremble or Evans
in that spot.
Speaker 2 (34:26):
And now they're they're they're fully going. He just said.
Speaker 1 (34:29):
Mitchell Evans came to in the off season, it said, bro,
I can do this. It took them until week seventeen.
We said it, Mitchell, you and I we're both dumb.
I'm really dumb. We both said, hey, Mitchell Evans is
known as like a great athlete.
Speaker 2 (34:43):
Give him them.
Speaker 1 (34:43):
Pretty sure we said it in the offseason. I'm pretty
sure we said a lot of brains going on up here.
Ran the damn quarterback sneak and Notre Dame. It took
him till week seventeen to realize, oh shoot, we really
could do this anyway, better late than never, better late
than never. I still want to see it as a
push though, Like you you said, this is Mitchell pull Louse.
I'd like to see Mitchell Mitchell push Losa and I
(35:07):
would like to see Tremble take a cheek and Rico
take a cheek and let's ride.
Speaker 2 (35:11):
That's what I would like to see, man. But anyway,
I'm really sure houses to follow that up there. That's progress, baby.
Speaker 1 (35:17):
You know know you guys not Wuda fans. We're not
Bona fans. I don't think you know what I mean.
I think we liked better when he sings it. I
was a fan in two thousand and seven. It's twenty
twenty five.
Speaker 8 (35:29):
My man's doing ten am concerts in Chapel Hill to
pay the bills.
Speaker 2 (35:35):
When we come back.
Speaker 1 (35:36):
Will Wade goes Will Wolf in Wednesdays presser. In a
very interesting comparison of Cohn by Steve Kerr, you'll hear
Sports Radio ninety two seven WFNZ.
Speaker 2 (36:15):
Chris Mallen.
Speaker 5 (36:16):
You know I see a lot of Chris Mallen. Really
good size on the wing, big strong body, catch and shoes,
but also incredible IQ you know, passing, making the right
play over and over again. Yeah, he's he's already really
really happen.
Speaker 3 (36:35):
Charles just talked about his ability to kind of find
an open spot on the floor and he knows that
scout one.
Speaker 2 (36:42):
Yeah, he's uh, he's got an act.
Speaker 5 (36:43):
He's got a field for the game, you can tell,
and you know the pump fag and the side step
free east to try a pas end of the Grade three.
That's just feel and the poise that he has on
the floors or depressing.
Speaker 1 (37:03):
That is Steve Kerry after the Warriors and Hornet's played
entertaining game but ultimately a Warriors win in the end.
That Draymond tip in was really the dagger that kind
of finished us if it was a four point game
bone when he tipped that back in about a minute left.
But I hate watching him succeed at the end of games.
(37:23):
It's it's it's a lot. Did you hear It's a
lot to watch him celebrated and it running down the court.
Did you hear Eric Collins comment? He says, and of
course Dell wants nothing to do is because Stephen dre
are tight and they've been, you know, buddies next year.
So del Curry cannot snicker at this joke. But East
he deadpans that, yeah, they got two guys in their
(37:43):
moody on this team, Dell. They got Moses Moody and
then they got Draymond Green's correct. It was a great line,
and Dell just gave him nothing. Kind of like, I
can't let Draymond find out I have laughed at this
joke because you could get.
Speaker 2 (37:57):
To bed that.
Speaker 1 (37:57):
Draymond probably goes back and watches all the game footage.
What did the broadcasters say? Who could I get mad
at in this broadcast? I wouldn't put it past him,
But that Chris mall in comparison for Steve for Steve
Kerr from Steve Kerr for Kank Nipple is a new one.
I didn't think we had any new good white basketball
players left bone to compare him to. But in all seriousness,
(38:20):
that wouldn't make sense as an old head that watched
Chris maullin all the way back to his college days
at Saint John's, Like that makes sense, man.
Speaker 2 (38:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (38:29):
Also, it's interesting too that Kurr is talking about Chris
Mullen when constant in the pre draft process that a
guy he models his game after is Klay Thompson.
Speaker 2 (38:37):
Yeah, what if that ever came up with anything?
Speaker 1 (38:38):
Also here at this time being asked about it, because
that's who Con said that he sort of emulates a
little bit of his game, so interesting. A lot of
people have made that comparison, but Steve Kerr took it
to a guy that he played against back in the day,
which was interesting. We could be running out of white
shooters here at some point. I just I can't get
enough con praise and comp inn accolae.
Speaker 2 (39:00):
I just I can't. Man, he's very exciting. Did you
see on this team?
Speaker 1 (39:04):
Did you see Max Sherry marching all the canipples into
the arena the other day for the Warriors? That was
quite a time out. It looked like my middle school basketball.
There was Kinston and Kidman and Cash and God Senor.
They're all rolled. I said, it looks like the twenty
thirty six brite three point shooters all wearing the identical
(39:25):
number seven Con jerseys. All right, let's get to the reel.
Let's get to the real juicy comments from the hoops.
It's not even I keep wanting to say we're recapping
a weekend, but we're actually going into the day of weekend.
I'm so I thought this was sounds of the weekend,
and it turns out we've done that already. This sounds
of back in Bone's shameless stint too, of their vacation.
(39:45):
This Will Wade stuff is pretty explosive. He's been taking
a lot of heat for basically essentially being a jerk.
To Joe Gillio, Joe Jillio Bone has now upset Dave
Dorin and Will Wade in about a forty days. Congratulations
to him. Listen to Joe Gillio's question, Listen to Will
Wade's answer, and was will Wade out of line?
Speaker 2 (40:08):
Is the question I think that needs to be asked.
What's your concern level where Daria? Absolutely zero?
Speaker 3 (40:14):
You know, I'm tired of hearing about frickin Darien. He's
playing well, all right, it's a terrible question. It's a
terrible question. Let me let me be let me be,
let me be frank with you. He affects winning, and
everybody's out here bitching about him and all this stuff.
Speaker 2 (40:30):
He affects winning.
Speaker 3 (40:32):
He was plus thirteen against Ole Miss and didn' hit
a shot, and everybody's acting like the world's caving in.
The guy's a damn good player. He didn't shoot it
well today. What did he have?
Speaker 2 (40:43):
Who had zero turnovers for us today?
Speaker 3 (40:45):
Darry Williams six rebounds, four turnovers, I mean, Ford assists
zero turnovers. So everybody needs to shut the hell up
about him. He's a damn good player and the SHOT's
gonna fall. I'm hard to answering questions about him. He's
really good. We're thankful to have him.
Speaker 2 (41:07):
So is he done?
Speaker 1 (41:12):
Next question that I was afraid, even though Mack that
was I was still afraid to interrupt him there.
Speaker 2 (41:18):
I didn't want to get.
Speaker 1 (41:20):
I thought way out of line there, because remember a
couple of weeks ago back, will Wade went off on
his own team in the game where McNeil went crazy,
had forty seven points. He was naming guys on the
team that he said you can't ask much more from
from Copeland.
Speaker 2 (41:36):
Who else did he say? And those are the only
two on the route.
Speaker 1 (41:39):
You didn't mention Williams in there, So that naturally led
to questions of, oh, is he trying to motivate maybe
Williams and Holloman whatever threw his words there. I've been
defending will Wade on that stuff. I thought the other
day was way out of line, and it made me
wonder if he's that worked up over that question, if
he knows that william has not been what he thought
(42:01):
he was going to be so far. Darien Williams is
having a good, solid season right fourteen points, five point
five rebounds, three point five assists.
Speaker 2 (42:10):
From three.
Speaker 1 (42:11):
Actually, he's just not having the first team All America
season that he was projected to have by the voters
and people that do that sort of thing, the ACC
Player of the Year season that the voters predicted, that
sort of impact. He's not necessarily having that sort of season.
First of all, for him to say that's a terrible que,
I mean, come on, that was a one hundred percent
(42:31):
legit quest. I think about a star player not playing
that well, one hundred percent legit question. I thought it
came across as performative from will Wade, like, I didn't
think he was near that angry about it. I thought
he was kind of putting on a show, and I thought,
what he's trying to do here is I think he's
probably been getting on Darien Williams, like you mentioned the
kind of passive aggressive approach in the In the previous presser,
(42:55):
he actually benched Aarian Williams by the way bone because
he didn't get back in transition in the first couple
of minutes of the Wake game. Yeah, and then put
him back in a couple minutes later. But he was
going off on They said on the broadcast. Oh, by
the way, they won the game easily against WAG but
they said on the broadcast, he is going into Dariy
Williams right now. I think he's probably been behind the
scenes pretty hard on this kid, probably does want more
(43:18):
from him. But I think this is one of these
things where for a coach, I'm gonna be hard on
you behind closed doors, but I'm gonna get your back
out there. And I kind of thought that's what he
was trying to do, and I thought he went over
the top with it. I also think he wanted to
do this. He was looking for somehow way to do this,
because I don't think that question, like you said, warrened
that response, it's like the old Saban thing Mac when
(43:39):
he's looking for someone to ask a certain question because
he's got something to say. So no matter who asked
the question, he's gonna spin it to where that question
was terrible, even if because the level of vitriol that
he had for that question did not match what the
actual question was. I didn't think it was cool, but
I can't I get trying to think through the ways
(43:59):
he's doing this. I think he's probably been going at
the kid, and I think now he wants a kid
to see, hey, I got love for you. I'm going
to coach go stand up for me on the outside.
I will say, though, Wade, you're new to this. You
don't treat the media like that. In the try and go,
I would never name me a time of coach kverty
that though to a reporter anybody exactly, you do it
with class. Will Wade clearly clearly Fitny. This is your
(44:23):
favorite guy. I'm sure you just sent him a Christmas card?
What did you think about Will Wade? I mean, are
you surprised this is who he is?
Speaker 8 (44:33):
Will Wade's an ass And look y'all know how I
feel about Joe Giulio, not a big fan of the guy.
Felt bad for him because I thought he asked a
legitimate question. You look at the numbers for Darny Williams
in the last handful of games not shooting the ball. Well,
the biggest thing is what bone reference. You just went
off on your team two weeks ago for guys not
(44:55):
having enough heart, compassion care, and you didn't name your
preseason All America and your preseason ACC Player of the
Year as one of the guys that was playing the
way you wanted him to play. So when when, when
you have that rant two weeks ago, makes the question
very legit. It makes it it was a it was
a ballot, It was a legitimate question. And look, maybe
(45:15):
this is a motivating tactic, but there's still there's no
reason for you to to talk that way to to
the media.
Speaker 2 (45:23):
But what do you expect. It's what it's it's what
they breed over there, NC State.
Speaker 9 (45:27):
But you.
Speaker 1 (45:29):
I was waiting for that to get to some you know,
fitty type. We eventually got there. We eventually got there
the full fitty.
Speaker 2 (45:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (45:38):
I don't think it was the coolest thing in the
world to do, but I can see kind of the method.
Maybe he seems to use the press conferences to perform
right and send messages. Yes, and I think that was
an example of that. I will say this. Bone, since
the rant I think business has picked up NC State.
By the way, Bone, since Maui has gone from the
one hundred second team and defense efficiency to thirty fourth,
(46:03):
their defense is actually ahead of their offense in efficiency.
Right razy right now, thinking about like the roster the way.
It's another thing speaking. Neil's been better lately, by the way,
definitely speaking even outside of the forty seven.
Speaker 2 (46:15):
I mean he's been pretty consistently speaking a good defense too.
Speaker 1 (46:18):
The tar Heels, don't look now, are up to seventeenth
in defensive efficiency on ken palm. Right now they're thirty
fourth in offense, seventeenth in defense. You don't see that
too often. Man, Where the tar Heels are the defense
is their strongest end of the floor. But they can
defend as a team. Man, They'll be better and better now,
trembles back. Duke fell seven spots in one game. The
(46:40):
other they went from second to ninth. The other one,
I gotta tell you was Duke asleep. What was that performance?
Speaker 3 (46:46):
Right?
Speaker 2 (46:46):
Two of those people in Duke uniforms. Bone try to
play defense.
Speaker 1 (46:49):
If you listen to Shires pressor though, Bone, Yeah, I
always worry about games after these layoffs, kind of like
the the when you come off the exams and not
playing a lot. They've done this before or but I
thought eventually they would wake up. Fitty, that guy, that
was the most stressful four hours.
Speaker 2 (47:06):
Of my life.
Speaker 1 (47:07):
Dude's playing in the sun Bowl, the champter in the
sun Ball and the basketball teams in a battle with
Georgia Tech. Fitty, that was a very thank you for
reaching out, Fitty to make your so much on the line.
What are you saying about shire Presser?
Speaker 8 (47:17):
I mean maybe you felt different because he went in
there and was basically going off on the acc or
on he has been for having them as twenty seven
point favorites. I think behind the scenes he knows what
he has in Boozer. But if other guys don't don't
start to emerge, I don't know what the ultimate ceiling
of this team is.
Speaker 1 (47:35):
They made a lineup change too. They're running two point guards.
