Speaker 1 (00:02):
When I come on sty oh is Mica and Boa.
You guys are the most entertaining sports program in the world.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Bone Gobbin, no, no, stop talking. You and I are
a couple eating a lady in the tram. You're the
lady on the tram.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
Yeah, come on, come on, baby, I was Boopy Boopy
McLean man. It's a great name.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
On the ball. Good morning, Charlotte, Welcome board. It is
the Mac and Bone Show. As we get ready to
(00:47):
do this on a Thursday, we got some football tonight
in both the NFL. Somebody's playing Seead on Arizona. I'm
playing tonight. But most importantly we got the Pirates favorites
at home against Army. That one is on ESPN tonight.
We will definitely talk about that and ken he Cu
(01:09):
bounce back from the BYU lost and get a win.
We've got ourselves some new injuries sadly to Carolina Panther
pass catchers and defensive lineman that we must discuss. Unfortunately,
we got to start talking about the Patriots. Drake May
reflects on growing up as a Panther fan. That's cool
(01:30):
stuff and a David Newton versus Bryce Young moment for
the Ages who you got. This might be the best
David Newton moment ever. And that's saying something because there
is a whole catalog of great David Newton, and by
great I mean very awkward interactions with Panthers players and coaches.
(01:50):
But anyway, that's all coming up here on the show today.
We got things to do. We got It's a big
Flounder show today, Bue. We talk about Bill Belichick and
that's not good to go good for him, but we
also get to talk about Drake May and for the
Drake May versus Bryce Young conversation, Flounder jumps right into
it and wears a Drake May jersey bone. Is that
(02:11):
not a shameless ball all up in our kitchen? Drake
made Patriots jersey I need to point out all all
up in our kitchen this week. Seriously. He doesn't just
ease into it. It just announces with his clothing, Yes,
I will be supporting the Patriots quarterback over the Panthers quarterback.
There's no pretending like Fiddy, He just he just tells
you who he roots for pretending. By the way, I
(02:33):
want to thank Max started you. Hear this right here,
that is the sounds of a McDonald's breakfast bag. Guy,
I got to go baby, Ronnie McDonald. Damn the MacMan
made a breakfast run this morning. Thank you, mag And
I heard you had a little bit of a You
got to give a talking to to the person that's
just trying to give me mcgriddles. Man, I want biscuits,
flound wants a bag. We had to get it straightened out.
(02:54):
Although who am I kidding? I ain't kicking any mcgriddles
out of the damn car. You probably should have said, yeah,
by the way, you're gonna one of those, throw a
couple of.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Dozen there too. No, but thank you for that. Man.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
I have a tradition when I make my weight for
the week, right, yeah, I do my midweek like, don't
hardly eat anything. So once we get to the weekend,
I can start eating again. And when I get down
to make weight, like I'm a boxer bone. When I
make weight, I hit McDonald's. Usually I'm selfish and just
by myself too, baking egg of cheese biscuits.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
But this today, I hook the boys up.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
And what you did now is now we don't We
probably won't get donuts tomorrow. So Fitty gets shut out
for the week. Oh that's tough. That's tough for FI.
That's tough. Hey man, I'm looking out for your waistline fit,
all right. You weren't fitting into that pong the way
I want you to, Okay, So I'm just looking out
for you, all right. Man. We got stuff to talk about,
including some dramatic entertaining stuff in Major League Baseball. Last
(03:46):
night the Braves did finally lose. They're winning streak finally
ended last night bone and lost to the Nationals. But
let's start with the panther stuff and we'll get We'll
let you hear what Dave Canalis says about it. But yes,
yesterday we found out t Max got a calf injury,
so he didn't practice. We found out dj Wanham's got
(04:07):
a hip injury. Those are two we didn't know about.
He didn't practice. This is on top of Xavier League
gets hamstring injury, didn't practice, Pat Jones hamstring injury, didn't practice.
Turk Wharton still not ready to go with his I mean,
we were hammy injury central over there. And then of
course Shatavian Sanders is going to be you know, it's
(04:28):
it's not gonna be this week. It's gonna he's gonna
miss a little bit of time with his ankle injury
from the other day, so you could specifically, and Coker's
not back yet. He's eligible to come back next week
if he's ready, but specifically, bone, the front seven and
the pass catchers are the areas we seem to be
getting hit with injuries simultaneously. Yeah, and that goes into
(04:50):
the offensive line injuries that we had previously.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
Yeah, I forgot about that.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Yeah, the offensive which we did about because they played
well last week. But yeah, injuries are starting to pile
up here, U one month end of the season, and
Mac you were I think you were saying too. We
sent it on the air and off the air. It's
amazing when it comes to the wide receiver depth of
how deep we thought this crew was about a month
ago and now where we are based off injuries, based
(05:15):
off the trade. It's amazing in the NFL, how quickly
an area of depth becomes an area of concern before
you know it isn't it for various reasons. It's crazy.
It's crazy, man, Like we expected. I expected David Moore
to be like the fifth or sixth option. He might
be the number two wide receiver. I mean, I think
(05:37):
t Ma's gonna play in Staid yesterday, He's probably gonna play.
He said that there was a report David speaking of
David Newton. David Newton had a report saying that they
feel like he'll play, but XL is in doubt. But
other than that, man, I mean, you're talking about Tommy Tremble,
uh being the first tight end? No Sanders. Tommy Tremble's
a nice kind of balanced player, but Sanders is the
(05:59):
special ass fleet at tight end. He's the past catching weapon.
So we better have t Mac because this thing is
getting a little hairy. Man Cocher. We don't have back yet.
And I don't know what happened at Adam feeling guy
bone he hit the transfer portal. I guess he's at
the mall. He was wandering the mall on Sundays in Minnesota.
Because he's not put him on the numbers. I may
(06:20):
put a whittle, just little little small bet maybe on
some Tommy Tremble numbers this week because I think he
could he could get some targets and he could get
maybe a red zone touchdown. I might put a little
something on Tommy Tremble. Mack can take a chance. The
Patriots pass defense has been terrible, twenty ninth in the
league in coverage. You think our linebackers are struggling in coverage,
look at the PFF coverage grades on a couple of
(06:41):
their linebackers Ellis and Splaine. I think it's twenty six
and thirty one is their PFF coverage grade to do respectfully.
So maybe Tommy Tremble gets gets gets good going on
those guys, it's like they're stud I'm sorry, it's like
they're stud Christian Gonzalez probably gonna play though this week?
Speaker 1 (06:59):
Yeah, maybe, maybe, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
I was gonna say their corners have really struggled, but
Gonzalez has been out for two months with a hamstring
injury that they thought he'd be back for in the opener.
Albert Breer yesterday had a report saying that there is
frustration over this. It sounds like some people thought he
could have played last week. No one is saying it publicly,
but it sounds like there's some friction there. He was asked,
(07:22):
are you going to play this week? He said, I'm excited.
That wasn't an answer of yes, I'm gonna play. That
was a dodging of the question. So that's why Bone
he could go, but there seems like there's still some
doubt there.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
He was limited yesterday.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
In practice, it would be very nice if he sat
out one more week because he's an absolute stud. And
the rest of the guys, in the words of the
great Tim McKay, are back in the day on this station,
way back in the day on this station, are Scruffins.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
The other guys are Scruffin's Bone.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
Is that why our boss at the time, DJ Statt
wanted to fight him in a partner a lot on
maybe called DJ Scruffin could have and next thing, you know,
but that was his that's his infamous saying for bad corn.
But anyway, uh so we'll see that the Gonzales thing
is a big deal and a big injury to monitor
the whole way through the week. We've got thirteen Panthers,
(08:12):
Bone Man on the preliminary list of one hundred and
twenty eight nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame
for this year. Bone obviously this will get narrowed down majorly.
I mean, this is one of these where for a
lot of these guys it's just an Honter Be nominated
type thing. But first time on the ballot for Greg
(08:34):
Olsen and Thomas Davis, Luke Keikley is already a finalist.
If you're a finalist one year and you don't make it,
you're back in the finals next year.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
Doesn't even matter.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
And then Steve Smith was a semi finalist last year,
and I would be shocked if he's not at least
to that part after that. But there's all kind of
guys in here, Bone, like Jake Khalil.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
A bunch. I have the whole list. Moose is in that, Oh,
moos in there?
Speaker 2 (09:00):
Yeah, Moosa, I believe I'm just going through the list
myself here as well. But Wesley Walls, Jordan Gross, Casey,
we Wood all's in there from back in the day.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
Olsen.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
You say Olsen, Well, yeah, because I said Olsen first year. Yeah,
that's right. Put that on the scoreboard, flown. I know
you don't keep the scoreboard flound. It's now eleven ten, Bone,
not listening. I was trying to. I was reading the
list while you were ho down scruffins. You gotta let
hear your ears are a couple of scruffins. I was
reading the list while you were pal all right, I'm
making sure we got the list out there, all right, buddy,
(09:31):
all right, scruffy by the way, thank you for the McDonalds. Yeah,
you awful feisty today. Bone, you gotta take you take
your l I'll move on. No, you take your round.
I didn't get it out. I heard exactly what I
can't wait to give you now. I mean, I will
don't worry in like five minutes, I won't.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
Listen to you. I'll be here to give.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
It to you anyway, keep going, Eric, Yes, Charles Tillman,
Eric Metcalf. At the bottom of list are guys that
will you know, didn't play as long with the with
the Panthers. So anyway, those guys all at least get to,
you know, say they're nominated. How many guys do you
think honestly have a chance to go to the Hall
of Fame on that list? Bone, Luke, Smitty Olsen maybe
(10:10):
at some point down the line. And that's that's all
I can probably see right now.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
I believe I.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
Believe Khalil should get some serious consideration. I believe there
was a good period where he was one of the
probably two three worst best centers in the NFL. Yeah,
i'd probably say a five to seven year period. I
think he was one of the standard bears at center.
But again I don't know. I mean, like, we can't
get Steve Smith in the damn thing. I mean, and
(10:39):
this guy is all over the top ten of the
all time leaders in the NFL. I mean, because he
played in Little Old Carolina. Darren Gantz got to like
inform these writers in these damn you know, conversations among
voters of who Steve Smith was because you played.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
A Little Old Carolina.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
So I wouldn't hold my breath about Ryan Khalil Olsen.
I think we'll get some discussion. Thomas Davis probably not right,
I would say probably. I mean, he's definitely a guy
that we would induct into the Hall of Fame. But
I probably say just Shore Olsen. Some guys have the
(11:18):
advantage back when they stay close to the game, not
that they don't deserve it as a player, but when
they're in the media, when they're in our vision still
all the time, that does benefit I think some guys
the longer they wait. I think Chris Carter Mack benefited
from that for a while. Not that he wasn't a
great player, but he waited a while waited a while,
(11:39):
waited a while, but it became more of a thing
because we saw Chris Carter on RTV all the time,
and it became a discussion. So I think the more
Olsen's in the spotlight, I think he does have a
chance eventually to get into the Hall of Fame. First
tight end with three one thousand yard seasons, although now
and more and more tight ends are putting up monstrous
numbers too. So those numbers, will you know what I mean,
(12:00):
the people be desensitized a little bit how great those
numbers were when he put them up. As far as
what was I gonna say, I don't know. I'm getting
all dirt, man, seriously, Oh man, I don't know. I
don't think fact Lee would All for back in the
late nineties is going to make the Hall of Fame.
(12:21):
I don't even know, I could be honest. I didn't
know Lee wood All played for the Panthers. Did he
come over when Seaffert came over from the Niners? Yeah,
I know he played for the Niners. I didn't know
about that. Forgot Lee would All existed until I saw
this list yesterday. No offense to Big Lee. So anyway,
we'll see the row. Nina was going to say, the
new rules. If they don't change these new rules, he's
restrictive rules Bone that restrict your the size of the class.
(12:43):
Guys that we thought had a chance are not going
to get in, you know what I mean, Like it's
it's been made harder. I think it's the reason why
Luke didn't get in last year because these new rules
make it harder for players to get in flat out.
So if they don't change that, guys who were and
you're talking about Khalil and Olsen, it might really be
hard for those guys. I mean, there's one hundred and
(13:05):
thirty eight just on this list yesterday, and think about
how many of these guys you could actually say, you
know what, probably should be a Hall of Famer, and
they're only going to go five at a time, then
there's going to be many many names that we kind
of view as Hall of Famers that are just never
going to make it. That's what I'm saying. There's a
lot of great players on this list. It felt like
the complexion of the voting and the type of player
(13:26):
that gets in changed last year. It definitely did as
far as college football goes. Bone I mentioned Army and
ECU playing tonight. Do want to mention as well that
it sounds like I knew Nicole Arback was saying that
she's talked to sources that seemed to think the College
Football Playoff will have one more year after this year
(13:48):
at twelve teams. They continue, surprisingly to nobody, Bone to
not really be able to get on the same page
about format for a sixteen team playoff. Rich Clark is
the executive director of the College Football Playoff, and he
basically said, we just had meetings a commissioner. We didn't
talk a whole lot about the format. So December first
seems to be a deadline that is pretty set in
(14:10):
terms of, you know, we have to change agree on
a new format in order to go to it for
not this year, of course, but next season. I continue
to say take your time, Bone, because a twelve team playoff,
we barely know you We've barely been able to really
decide how good that is.
Speaker 1 (14:28):
I think it's pretty good.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
Now. The Big Ten is trying to still do stuff
for over twenty teams, right, that's part of this. They're
trying to get played still in the works for over
twenty teams. They still why are they wasting their time
with that? I don't know, Like they don't even want
your auto major auto bid thing with sixteen. There's nobody's
going to do twenty eight unless that's a negotiating tactic
(14:50):
that we keep insisting on twenty something teams with like seven,
like however many autobisions and then.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
Do a TV in the middle, TV rights or something.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
Is the thought that that's why they're trying so are
to get over twenty on. Nobody's gonna do that. Nobody's
going with you on that. Nobody even wants to do.
Like I said, no one wants to do the play
in bone where they get four out of bits, SEC
gets four out of bits, ACC Big twelve get two
and it's sixteen. So like, just miss us with the
damn twenty something like that's just outrageous. But to my point,
(15:23):
I could sit here at twelve for a long time
and feel pretty good about it. I gotta be honest
with you, Yeah, I have no issues with twelve. My
issue would be if I have to watch IOWA in
the postseason, Oh well I can't. It's all fun and
games until we're watching IOWA in the playoffs, and that's
that where everybody went through the Big ten plan where
they have like three playing games.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
It's ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
Three playing games Iowa would be playing for a chance
to win and you're into the playoffs. No one needs
that at eight and four, No one needs that. No offense, Ioway,
no one needs that. Baseball Souff last night back real quick.
Kyle Schwarber two homers last night for the Phillies. He's
at fifty five homers. He's now got the record for
lefty homers against left handed pitching in a season. Aaron
(16:03):
Judge hit two homers last night. He's now at fifty one.
He is the fourth ever player with four seasons of
fifty homers or more. And Cal Rolly for the Mariners
hit two homers last night as well. He's now at sixty.
He's three off Aaron Judges record from three years ago
of the American League. So, man, what a night of
home run hitting for the guys that have done it
(16:24):
all year, right all one night. They're all reaching milestones
in the same night. He was so special numbers man,
No doubt when we come back we have Dave Canalis
on the wide receiver injuries. Mike Rabel spent how many
hours watching Panther kickoffs? And we begin to preview more
and more of the Patriots game on Sunday on Sports
Radio ninety two to seven WFNZ.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
So JT week two week with an ankle, So we'll
just have to kind of evaluate that as we go.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
T Max just day to day.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
You know, he's got he's got a little bit of
a caf. So we'll just take a look at him
tomorrow moving around and then just go from there. Who
else jasbout you? Yeah, leg get the hamstring, same thing.
You know, We're just evaluating each day see if we
can get those guys both back out there. But you know,
we have to just push them. We've got to see
what their capacity is and then make a decision from there.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
There you go, Coach Canal, So with the updates, t
Mac day to day, like Bone said, he did say
in the locker room yesterday. They had to get it
out of him, but he did say, yeah, I expect
to play. But you heard it there. Sanders week to
week excel also day to day. Three key pass catchers
in doubt right now, on top of Jalen Kocher being
(17:49):
out and Adam Thalan being in Minnesota, so we'll talk
about it. And like I said, you've got one of
them who didn't practice, Pat Jones who didn't practice, and
Turk Wharton three guys as a part of your front
seven as well. So that's what we're going to be monitoring.
Like you brought up Bone, the Christian Gonzales injury in
New England is going to be the one we're going
to montre They do have two other starters that if
(18:10):
two stars that didn't practice at all, our old friend
Kaylevon chas On, one of their edge rushers, and also
their right guard as well. Boney did not practice yesterday,
So they've got some injuries to monitor as well. Let's see,
So now I got to stress over that bony. Just
when I had been basking into glory of Panthers thirty
(18:33):
to nothing reality hits and now I got these damn
injuries to stress out over.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
As long as t Max good though, Man, you're the
main one.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
When you're on a streak like this, it's you know,
the pressure mounts eventually, right you think our winning streak
could end? Bone?
Speaker 1 (18:45):
You know what I mean, It's been a while.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
This is the point of the week where we have
to handle everything like we did last week, right, we
have to kind of we have to whatever worked last
week for us, we got to do it again. I mean,
we need to pick the opposition to win tomorrow on
the show. Pick the opposition. Do I have to order
the same honey we ordered lots Friday? I don't know
that might work for us. Oh Man, By the way
you talk, you joke about the streak or whatever. This
(19:09):
is important. This stretch is important. The games are winnable,
but they're you know, we can lose any game, obviously,
but let's not have what happened last year Panthers. Panthers
lost their first to last year. Now, it was a
little different because they benched Bryce, but they won in
Week three and then lost their next five games. Remember
we were in this exact same spot last year. It
(19:30):
was different because Bryce got benched, right, but remember how
we all felt when they beat the Raiders with Andy Dalton.
We had ourselves convinced the red rifle was getting ready
to shoot down all the opponents, Bony, you know what
I mean, And we didn't win for the next five
damn games. Do you remember the conversations we were having
(19:50):
about Andy Dalton? Back after that game. Could Andy Dalton
be the guy going forward? You do it kind of
like Baker Mayfield that has done in Tampa, like Stan
Dartle was in Minnesota. Next guy that maybe just takes
it over till the next guy, like the stopgap, but
he's good enough to be that guy back, not only
for the rest of twenty twenty four. Can any Dawlon
be the starter because we're moving on from Bryce in
(20:11):
twenty twenty five. Those were honest discussions.
Speaker 1 (20:13):
We had a year that I.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
Particular, r Man, I'm not gonna lie to you. I
participated in that. I said Bryce needs a fresh start.
I did all that damn stuff, all right. I've apologized
to Bryce over talked.
Speaker 4 (20:23):
About trading him to the Dolphins. We talked about that
on the Midday show.
Speaker 1 (20:26):
Yeah, that was the big thing. That was a big thing.
He still might need a quarterback down there.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
By the way, what I didn't Bryce, but somebody, what
I did not participate in is Kyle Allen could be
the guy. I am proud to say I never participated
in those And those of you that did know who
you are, all right, those of you that did know
who the heck you are all right, so U t
Mex catch has been blowing up on social media. You say,
(20:52):
which one the one bone where he just soared above
Billy Bowman, junior rookie dB for the Atlanta Falcons. I
mean the air he got on that catch was insane.
Some dude yesterday sent some like screensavers that he has
now of this. It's it looks absolutely ridiculous. I mean
(21:14):
I'm talking about bone. He might have been four feet
like his hands grabbing the ball might have been four
feet on top of Billy Bowman.
Speaker 1 (21:23):
That was insane. I don't even know how you I
won't even does that.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
And Bryce put it right where I wanted to, like
he knows T Mac's gonna go up and get it. It
just and by the way t Mac has acted like
that was nothing but a thing, like yeah, I just
went up caught the football To all of us, I
think I think the picture is what gets us because
we're like, dude, your vert is like I don't even
know thirty something inches. Yeah, Bowman didn't jump, so he
(21:49):
is so high above that, Like it's not one of
those where you loss somebody where they're jumping to this
dude was on the ground completely so it's really looks
ridiculus like an adult like holding a ball, you know,
catching a ball over a little kid's head. That's what
it looks like like when Zach Edie get a rebound
over like smaller guards.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
It's Mac.
Speaker 2 (22:09):
It's the highest we've seen a person get in Charlotte
since Billy Tomorrow. And he needs to work on ohom, shout
out to Billy tomorlin. He Yeah, he would be feeling
good at this joint. Yeah, let's just say that if
he got stressed during the workday, he might step out,
he might go somewhere. He would he would get his dubond.
All right, let's get to some audio here, shall we.
(22:30):
That's really that's really the uh, really cool thing to say.
And he would step outside and get his dude. It
sound a pretty damn bad ass, right there, baby, All right,
let's get to some audio speaking of T Mac and
that catch Bright's young, much like T Mac, not overly
impressed bone, He's not surprised by anything.
Speaker 5 (22:48):
I've watched him since high school, played against him in
high school, and watched a lot, so it's tough for
for things to be surprising. I've seen a lot of
things in gamer and practicing and now being able to
play with him on the on the price field. You know,
it's he's one of those guys. You throw it up
in his vicinity again. You you know he's cable of
catching you. You you almost want to toy expect something
(23:10):
amazing to happen. But again, he just has that capability.
So us all in the building, you know where we
all have all the conference in the world.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
What a weapon that is. I was going to say
the same thing.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
To have the guy that could make up for a
bad throw where you don't have to have it exactly
where you need it, because he'll make up for that.
That is the ultimate weapon for a quarterback. Guy that
could make up for a throw that might not be
exactly there where you want it. That's part of it too,
You're right, that's part of it too. But what and
what Bryce was saying is I put it up there
where only he can get it right.
Speaker 1 (23:39):
Again, the kids.
Speaker 2 (23:40):
Can't go up and get the cookies in the top shelf,
but dad can. And I'm telling you daddy, Daddy was
Daddy went and got himself some cookies on that play,
all right, And there was no cookies for little junior,
Little Billy Bowman Junior. Anyway, I'm just a week removed
from hyping up Billy Bowman Jr. Jalen Walker. Who else
is there? James Pearce and Xavier Watts. Our rookies completely
(24:01):
outplayed all those dudes on Sunday, Hey frown.
Speaker 1 (24:05):
Can can Fiddy reach the top shelf on cookies? Probably not?
Speaker 4 (24:09):
And I mean considering that he has no neck either,
I mean he can't see him, so it's all good.
Speaker 2 (24:15):
Damn step stool and maybe maybe a step stool on
top of a.
Speaker 1 (24:19):
Step stool might work for him.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
So anyway, Tamac's a great weapon and I'd like to
see that get used in the red zone eventually. I'm
not a big fade pattern guy, Bony, but this might
be the guy that breaks my my anti fade pattern
inside the ten yard line rule. Right, Yes, there are
some guys you just gotta throw it to. And I
also think back shoulder fades. They almost connected on one,
(24:42):
but they did get the PI on a back shoulder fade.
Brice could have thrown a little bit further back, but
I think back shoulder fades too is something he can
reach back and get. They're still close on a lot
of plays and not they're not hit as many places
as they've hit on. Yeah, they've got a bunch too
where it's just they just quite they.
Speaker 1 (24:58):
Were almost there.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
Yeah, you know, those almost I think are going to
become plays and he's going to take it to another
level of mention.
Speaker 1 (25:04):
No, it's a great point.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
We said it this week that t Max making a
tough catches, wait till the basics come into his bag,
because right now it feels like the more difficult ones
he's making and sometimes the ones that seem easier he's not.
But once he puts it all together might be unstoppable.
That wide receiver screen could have been a touchdown. They
had that thing set up so well solid all twenty
two shot of it. They had that thing set up
so well it really did which, by the way, I've
(25:25):
noticed we ran a nice screen to dabble for a
first down knock going what I feel like our screen
game under Canalist has gotten better. Remember on our screen
game Bone was the worst screen game in the league
for like years, Like yes, we couldn't stop a screen
for years and every other team and we made it
look so easy and we couldn't get more than two
(25:46):
yards on our damn screen. It was a nightmare, a
long Charlotte nightmare of the screen. Game feels like it's
getting better. But don't throw deck sail though, No, do
not do that when he comes back. That's not his
bag man. Speaking of weapons, Bone love the weapon my
man fits he is Ryan Fitzgerald. I am all about
this creative knuckler kickoff. I just find it to be awesome.
(26:11):
Just again creative. You also have to have the right
kicker that can do this without missing the zone because
if you miss that zone, the balls at the forty
yard line. So a lot of teams Bone are just
not willing to do that. They're just punting it deep.
They're not willing to risk the giving it up the
forty yard line. And this thing is not just not
only re number one Bone in the league. In start
(26:34):
to start starting field position of opponents at the twenty
one because of our kickoffs. But it's caught the attention
of Mike Vrabelbone, who apparently did some binge watching the
other night of Panther kickoffs.
Speaker 6 (26:48):
We're pudy are really phenomenal kick cover because it's impressive
on the aspect and looked at it for two hours
last night. I'm any impressive. They got good players, they
got great speed. They changed the scheme up on you,
and so you know that'll be critical that we're able to,
you know, protect the guy with the ball. They're they're flying,
(27:10):
and you know it starts with the kicker kicks him
a good kick, dirty kick. So he's had the returners
sometimes confused he's kicking him when he kicks him deep,
they're right at the goal line forcing you to return them.
Or you know, last week a couple of times they
touched it and took a step back and then you know,
(27:32):
had it on the twenty yard line. So they've done
a fantastic job. Credit to their staff and uh and
to the players.
Speaker 1 (27:40):
Mac.
Speaker 2 (27:40):
Back in the early two thousands, when Tim Wakefield was
in his prime throwing that knuckler for the Red Sox
in their early championship run, his main catcher was Doug Mirabelly,
like he was the knuckleball catcher and he had that
big old man, he had the giant knuckleball. Mall yeah,
I can see rabel Mac putting his returners out there
this week with big old knuckleball mass. Is that legal
allowed to take that out there for the kickoffs. He's
(28:03):
right though. I noticed that Bone, they were doing the
short kicks that would knuckle and bounce and get on
the ground and throw them off, and then they hit
one deep and the kick returner was surprised that it
went deep and he actually had to move backwards and
he kind of went back from the one end of
the end zone.
Speaker 1 (28:22):
Well that's at the twenty.
Speaker 2 (28:22):
Then that's a touchback to the twenty if you go
from outside the end zone into the end zone with
the new rules, so right now we're doing a good thing.
Everybody's going to adjust to it. So when we have
a counter to their counter, will they figure it out
that there is a question. But I'm telling you right now, Bone,
when you can be plus nineteen like we were the
other day on starting field position, that is a serious
(28:43):
advantage that not that many people will talk about. That
is a major advantage. And you got Vrabel in the
staff having to spend hours on the kickoff. Now that's
another thing they're having to spend time on. We were
worried about special teams, and look at Fitzy. He's hitting bombs,
he's hitting knucklers. I love that coverage way we were
worried about special teams. They have been nominals. I love
that coverage group Incoombe and Bryce and Tremaine, those boys
(29:04):
Campbell got involved this week. I love the fact that
Canalis and Rabel call it dirty kicks. That kick is
so naughty, that kick is dirty. I just I've never
heard that phrase before, but both guys said it, so
apparently that's a thing, right, the knuckling action. I have
a song, but on a quick little song, I like
to hear about dirty kicks, all right, sung to the
tune of ac DC's Dirty deads.
Speaker 1 (29:25):
All Right, here we go dirty.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
I was gonna say, dirty deeds, taketo, we're not live,
dirty kicks done by fits, dirty kicks done by fits,
Dirty kicks done by fits, dirty kicks, and we don't
kick deep, dirty kicks. We don't kick deep.
Speaker 1 (29:50):
You like that one? That's mine that I'll be trying
to win up uppen Z Drammy.
Speaker 2 (29:54):
I'm up against Willie's rap song, though that's tough competition.
Did you take it out in the drive through this morning?
Because that's prett he saw pretty much? Yeah, pretty much.
I was gonna say, we haven't talked about dirty kick
since you were wearing those one moment shit.
Speaker 1 (30:07):
Drag beer.
Speaker 2 (30:07):
Out of those were very dirty kicks there. There we
are your dogs, baby, my dogs down in my head man.
Dirty kicks done by the fence, dirty kicks.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
In we don't kick deep. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
I'm kind of proud of that. Don't have you do
a pregame concert before the Miami game.
Speaker 1 (30:23):
Me and P Man? Who's opening? No, p Man, which
one of us is opening?
Speaker 4 (30:27):
I think you got to open because you went longer
than he. His rap was what a hike?
Speaker 1 (30:32):
WU like?
Speaker 2 (30:33):
I like the lead up though, and he's like, oh yeah,
what the beach doing? Whatever he was doing whatever that
noise was, Oh man. Anyway, Dave Canalos was asking interesting questions.
I try to move along now. I realize that might
have sounded lame, So I'm gonna try to move along
with my morning here and forget that happened. Canalis was
asked an interesting question by Mike Kay. Canalis said, basically,
(30:57):
the Rams are the only other team. I did not
know this. This is new to me that the Rams
and all the other team really kind of trying this
sort of kick.
Speaker 1 (31:03):
And he asked coach Canalis, like why is that.
Speaker 3 (31:06):
I believe that most teams have tried throughout camp and
they know their kickers, and so you can only push
them as far as their capabilities allow them. And you know,
Ryan and Matt Wright really showed an ability to try
to challenge the return teams with different angles, and I'm
sure that all the other teams were trying to spot
balls in different ways. But you have to be cognizant
(31:28):
of the landing zone and knowing the flip side if
you don't get it in there, you know, and giving
the team an automatic, you know, thirty five yard line
start if you can't land it, you know, before he
goes over the goal line. And so I think it's
team to team, and you know, I have a lot
of faith and confidence and a lot of the coaches
knowing like, this is our guy, this is what we
can count.
Speaker 5 (31:46):
On him to do.
Speaker 2 (31:48):
So there you go, Coach canal is saying hey, thanks,
everybody kind of tried to see what they could do
in the preseason. One of what's funny is I remember
distinctly seeing somebody on Twitter with film or the Panthers
kickoff in the preseason saying that they didn't like the
way they were doing this. Oh I remember, yeah, I
remember that, and there's a whole breakdown of what's wrong
with the Panthers. I remember I sent the link out
(32:09):
and now all of a sudden it looked like we're genius.
Buck Eye. Dave said the song was awful. Brian says
advantage Willie p how dare you, sir? And Son of
Sweet has helped me with some additional lyrics. Dirty kicks
and they give them fits. Oh, dirty kicks done by fits.
Dirty kicks, man, they gave them fit. That's a good
one too.
Speaker 1 (32:27):
I like that one.
Speaker 2 (32:28):
Oh my god, what a creative session we're having, Son
of Swede.
Speaker 1 (32:32):
So anyway, Bony, that's a good time.
Speaker 2 (32:34):
Right there, Absolutely good time talking dirty kicks.
Speaker 1 (32:37):
That was a good song by you. When we come back.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
Football headlines including Tom Brady calling out those who have
a problem with his dual roles as a broadcaster and
an owner Sports Radio ninety two seven, WFNZ Sports Radio
(33:03):
ninety two to seven, and WFNZ the Bryce versus Charlotte
native drinke May conversation coming up. There was a lot
of Bryce and Pennox last week. There's always a lot
of Bryce and Stroud. Bryce and Drake conversation coming up
at seven o'clock.
Speaker 1 (33:21):
By the way, speaking of CJ.
Speaker 2 (33:22):
Stroud, Bone, I saw a couple interesting things the other
day about c J. Stroud, and he seems like a
good kid. So I shouldn't like I shouldn't have to
leave my voice that I do. But the rookie year
was hard on us, right was Strowle Loi GE's so good?
And Bryce struggling? Tom Fournelli as CBS did a poll
on Twitter and there were thousands of people that responded,
who you taking right now? Bryce or Stroud? Bryce Young
(33:45):
sixty one percent of the vote over CJ.
Speaker 1 (33:48):
Stroud? How about them apples? And then what a difference
two years make?
Speaker 2 (33:52):
How about this stat bony since the beginning of last
year when things around Stroud started to go wrong and
he he has really struggle with it right protection and
offenseve coordinators and all that stuff. Run game right now
struggling the beginning.
Speaker 1 (34:07):
Of last year.
Speaker 2 (34:08):
He is twenty eighth out of thirty three quarterbacks that
have thrown the ball three hundred times or more in EPA,
He's twenty eighth. Bryce Shung's ahead of them, and the
list of guys that are behind him Bone. I mean
it's like Joe Flacco. I mean, it's not a good list.
So man, he has really dropped off. And I don't
want to be a hater to him, because again he
(34:30):
seems like a good kid. But it's just it's a marathon,
not a sprint. Progress is not linear, like you know
what I mean. Like quarterbacking, there's a lot of variables
that affect the performance of young quarterbacks. There's only a
handful bone that seemed to be able to do it
every year. And I would even say, guy, I love
a lot. Pat Mahomes has certainly not looked at his
(34:51):
best of late. So it's just that quarterback position. Man,
it's complex. It's complex to evaluate. It's like the Coke
six hundred, right. Someone may lead the race for a while,
have a great car, but it's such a long race
that it takes forever to truly figure out who the
ultimate winner may be.
Speaker 1 (35:10):
CJ.
Speaker 2 (35:11):
Stroud started out in a great car, was way ahead.
What do un catchable? When a further this thing goes along.
All of a sudden he goes, oh, maybe it's not
as far apart as we once thought it was. He
make those wedge adjustments. She thinks they made a wedge
adjustment on brycey is know what you're saying about. I
saw Fiddy make a wedge adjustment last week. Unfortunately he
was during the vision adjustment. Anyway, we're getting a lot
(35:31):
of questions before we get to the football headlines. And
this Tom Brady thing, this little article or whatever it
is Tom Brady wrote about his criticism he's facing makes
me hate that man even more. I just I detest
what this man has said. And we'll get to that
in a second. But anyway, we must mention the streaming
situation right now, and again anytime we mentioned streaming, I
(35:54):
realize that those of you that are having the issues
with the streaming that are trying to stream us and
are getting the WBT stream for some reason, we got
our streams crossed here at Oughdyssey, Oh got our streams crossed.
Certain stations are on in our family or on different stations.
It's very weird right now. But our engineers working on it.
I realized the people that need to know this aren't
(36:16):
really able to hear this. I would hope people can
get to ninety two point seven. It is a robust
FM signal. Yes, it's not that dinky little AMS signal
we used to add a lot of people there a
lot of people either think we took a day off.
There are some that think that they finally said get
rid of these bozos. There's a lot of assumptions out there.
We are on the air. We don't really miss days
(36:37):
during football, so we are here. Uh, please find us
on ninety two seven, or spread the word wherever our
stream may be may be right now, spread our stream is.
Our stream is somewhere in the world.
Speaker 4 (36:47):
Well, remember we had this moment yesterday. Were you guys
gotten by the happiness?
Speaker 1 (36:51):
Please? I got an apb out right now, there's some
happiness on that right now, gotcha? You could be right?
Speaker 2 (36:56):
I need back up, come over with you could be right.
The happy is police might have out the way to
shut us down, because lord knows that news talk ain't
the happiest format, you know what I mean? The happiest
police are like this show's too happy after a panther win,
Let's put some news talk on.
Speaker 1 (37:10):
Bring people back down.
Speaker 2 (37:11):
No offense to Bow and Beth, because when it comes
to that format, they do it very well. I'm sorry,
where's our stream? I got caught man. No, I wasn't
insulting them. I was I was just saying that we're
a little sport's a little happier fair.
Speaker 1 (37:28):
I'm sorry, Bo, you didn't deserve that stray.
Speaker 2 (37:29):
I don't mean to barge in here, but I'm just
down the hall wondering what your text line must look
like this morning. It's not it's not a good, not
a good, but it's not a good scene here I'm
involved in.
Speaker 1 (37:39):
Conversations quite funking. I don't know anything about because I
don't know if you guys know this.
Speaker 3 (37:42):
But on our stream on WBT stream, it's it's praise
one hundred point nine.
Speaker 1 (37:46):
So we're playing music, praise music.
Speaker 2 (37:48):
On sometimes Max Sing's over here. Though we got we
have our streams crossed here. But here's the problem. We
can't find a buck. Can you go find ours?
Speaker 6 (37:58):
Stream?
Speaker 2 (37:59):
Like we didn't get it win, we lost the musical
chairs games streams. Put in a ticket, The ticket's in there,
all right? What happens when a ticket's put in here?
Speaker 1 (38:08):
Bone? How long does that mean? Remember when remember when
we were trying to fix the chairs that one time?
Speaker 2 (38:13):
Oh man, because it might be it might be a
little baby next thing. You know, the shares didn't get
facts and I fell out of it.
Speaker 1 (38:19):
The chair broke.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
All right, anyway, that's Bo Tom's WBT. That's that's the
man you're listening to if you're a streamer today. I
get to know him, everybody. Hopefully we'll get it set.
Hopefully y'all can get to ninety two point seven. All right,
let's get to this some football headlines.
Speaker 1 (38:33):
Here, bone turned to the right. You're too happy, you're
taking a mug shot. Let's go.
Speaker 2 (38:39):
Let's go to Brady Tom Brady. So Tom Brady got
a little defensive bone in his I didn't know he
does this his Wednesday morning newsletter. He I didn't know
he had a Wednesday morning newsletter, but he wrote in
his Wednesday morning newsletter and newsletter. And listen to how
defensive he gets about the criticism he's getting. And we've
criticized him, but I mean, I know he's not hearing
(38:59):
our inky little criticism. But like there's a lot of
people going in, especially in the media, that there's a
conflict of interest between being an owner. Is that's that
active apparently and a broadcaster, right that's in meetings and
talking into these other teams. So Brady said, I love
football at its core. It is a game of principles,
and with all the success it has given me, I
(39:22):
feel I have a moral and ethical duty to the sport.
China to vomit while you listen to this, which is
why the point where my roles in it intersect is
not actually a point of conflict, despite what the paranoid
and distrustful might believe. So get this straight. He is
(39:42):
the guy that benefited from Spygate, sure he didn't know
anything about it, and the guy Bone that was involved
in Deflategate has a moral and ethical duty to the sport,
and he thinks anybody that thinks that he would use
any information he gets as a broadcaster to benefit his
team as an owner is paranoid and distrustful. I mean,
(40:04):
what in the world, man, I'm more put off the
fact this guy's got a newsletter. Are their ads for
jiu jitsu instructors in the newsletter? That's cold man, That
is cold, bony. He also went on Bone, Oh, listeners,
there's more. When you live through uncertain and untrusting times
like we're in today, it is very easy to watch
(40:26):
a person's passions and profession intersect and to believe you're
looking at some sort of dilemma, because when you're blinded
by distrust, it's hard to see anything other than self interest.
People who are like that, particularly to a chronic pathological degree,
are telling on themselves. They're showing you their worldview and
(40:49):
how they operate. They're admitting that they can only conceive
of interest that are selfish. Boy, this is awfully defensive
coming here from or a guy that got a deflated
That's what. And Ben, you don't think you knew anything
of how they were They knew the other team signals
one hundred percent. The quarterback knew how he knew how
they knew what the other team was running. What about
(41:10):
It's just like, get out of here, get off your fin.
Speaker 1 (41:12):
High horse, Tom Brady.
Speaker 2 (41:14):
How many horror stories mag happened over the years of
the communication systems going out in New England? We heard
that for a long time, right, how the quarterback audio
with the coaches would go out all the time there.
I wonder how that happened, right? Coincidents?
Speaker 1 (41:30):
I think not. I know nothing about it. I'm a
Childihill very much in love.
Speaker 2 (41:33):
No, Theo Pennix lost his communication this week for a
couple of minutes. I'm not sure it would have helped him.
Not sure it would have saved him. Boney, they probably
didn't want to talk to him anymore. They're right, we
can't talk to this guy. I just can't believe the
high horses cats on man, as if he wasn't already
hateable enough in my humble opinion Roger Goodell. Yesterday, Bone
was asked could you see the Super Bowl ever be
(41:53):
being streamed and not on broadcast TV in the twenty thirties,
and he said anything as possible. He went to Kevin
Gard now on anything is possible? Does that upset y'all?
I mean, I'm sure it's always going to be on
broadcast television, would he That's not what the question was. Well,
I understand, I think it's always going to be on
broadcast With streaming, I can't ever see that. But you
(42:14):
don't think that's that would happen? Now, I don't think
that'll happen. But a super Bowl not in America, that's
definitely more possible. I think than that. I think I
think super Bowl is going abroad at some point.
Speaker 1 (42:24):
Well in London. Do you think more places just London.
Speaker 2 (42:27):
Well that see how the one that's being told you're
going to go to at least London, and if it
goes well in their view, maybe not ours, but the
NFL's view monetarily, then I think they're going to try
to find other place. A couple of things here. If
I were to tell you that NFL games at all
were on streaming X amount of years ago, you'd say,
no way, right, Like, just imagine, let's say in fifteen years,
(42:50):
how prominent all the streaming platforms will be, even old
people will have them in about fifteen years, you know
what I mean, because we'll be getting old and then
we'll be the old people with the streaming. Now, our
current old generation is kind of like, what how do
I do this whole thing?
Speaker 1 (43:03):
You know? So, I don't I disagree with you on that.
Speaker 2 (43:06):
I don't find that impossible if we go long enough
into the future, because I think streaming is only gonna
get more and more common, you know. Yeah, I'm waiting
far as the Super Bowl overseas, I could sadly see that.
Speaker 1 (43:22):
I'm not a fan of that.
Speaker 2 (43:23):
I'm all about exposing your game in the to the
other countries because it's a business thing. I want to
know when UEFA will put the Champions League Final in
America because they're there, and the answer will be never
in our lifetime. There is a thing going on where
Barcelona and somebody was trying to play in Miami and
UEFA put the kaibosh on it. That's just a regular
(43:44):
season game in Miami, much less the Champions League Final.
That's what the Super Bowl is to American football. Why
the hell do we have to take that overseas? Why
can't and not to mention when are we going to
play the game three in the afternoon our time? Like
if you're playing in London, they're five hours behind us.
What time you start game here? We gonna play it
in the day. Yeah, it's totally I didn't think that
was good for business in America. It's messing with the
(44:06):
day that doesn't need to be messed with. It's like
messed with the NCAA tournament. Like these major events, these huge,
massive events, don't mess with them. How about WrestleMania MAC
in twenty twenty seven going to Saudi Arabia. That's a
whole in the wrestling world. That's a huge have they
but they've been over there before?
Speaker 1 (44:21):
Right.
Speaker 2 (44:21):
They've been over there before for their own select events
that that are part of, like the Saudi Arabia agreement
that they have, but not WrestleMania. The Super Bowl, that's
like the Big Bowl, I think, the biggest event. You know,
it's a huge money maker for the city that goes
to and now it's going over there, and it's probably
gonna go over there quite a few times. By the way,
speaking to Saudi Arabia, how much money of the Saudi's
(44:42):
paying Tom Brady play flag football. It's gonna be involved
that flag football game. That's another one he's involved in.
But I would be distrustful if I asked that question, though,
I'd be a distrustful blind person. When we come back
in the Mack and Bone Show, Drake or Bryce, who
you got?
Speaker 1 (45:00):
Arts Radio ninety two seven wfm Z
