Speaker 1 (00:03):
When come on sty Oh is Mac and Boa. You
guys are the most entertaining sports program in the world.
Bone gomit no, no, stop talking. You and I are
a couple eating like Lady in the tramp. You're the
lady on the tree. Yeah, come on, come on, baby,
I was Boopy Boopy MacLean man. It's a great name.
(00:25):
All the bond. Good morning, Charlotte, Welcome board. It is
Mac and Bone Show time. We got so much happening,
(00:49):
some of it good, some of it pretty damn ugly
to recap. We are gonna talk about it all today
here on the Mac and Bone Show. Hope everybody had
a great Christmas. I'm guessing you don't want to talk
about the Christmas. I'm guessing you want to talk about
one of two things, how bad the Panthers offense looked
yesterday and the fact that if they won that game,
(01:10):
thanks to the Miami Dolphins and quinn Ewers, they would
be NFC Champs South champs this morning. Or some of
you might want to talk about the fact that four
point thirty on Saturday in Tampa, the Panthers are playing
for the NFC South title. For all intents and purposes,
I know there's that little Falcon scenario that we will
talk about as well. But there's really two ways to
(01:32):
look at this thing today. We can cry like a
bunch of little babies about what happened yesterday, or we
can focus about the fact that this team, which has
been hot garbage in December every damn year pretty much
for the last eight years, is playing for a division
title on Saturday. You can make your choice, or we
can do both. We might be able to squeeze a
(01:52):
little both. Then on today's radio show, we'll also recap
the weekend in sports as well, a little Bowl action,
little Hornets dub little Hornets, injury that we didn't want
to see, so we get a lot of things going on.
A man that should be banned from any sporting event
that you care about. Will I will put bones picture
up at stadiums all over the Carolinas so security can
(02:16):
keep this man out. Good morning to you too. What's up, Bony?
What's going on? Man? Not a good sign when Bone
shows up to support the home team. No, No, that's
not really a good sign when I show up anywhere.
To be quite honest with you, Macker's the Charlotte Comfort
Systems temperature right now fifty six degrees. Charlottecomfort Systems dot
(02:36):
Com for all your heating needs. Check them out there
you go. Thank you. We'll always have last Monday, right,
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
Bone.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
Also a win against Tampa. The holidays around the corner.
We were singing songs, we were drinking our egg nod,
we were wearing our jammies. We were having a time
last Monday. And now here we say it's a bad
payer goes gravity back to reality whatever Eminem's that reality
is both reality is a good panther Monday followed by
a panther Monday. I mean this team, it's CBS put
(03:03):
the graphic up at the end of the game. Bone,
it's the sixth longest streak of win loss win loss
win loss in NFL history. And now it's nine nine now,
or at least the way CBS counted as nine. ESPN
said yesterday it was nine in a row before the game.
So is it now? I don't know if I think
it depends on how you count it or whatever. I
just listen. If anybody is shocked by what happened yesterday,
(03:24):
you hadn't been paying attention, You hadn't been paying attention
to us, you hadn't been paying attention to Seahawks who
are thirteen to three. I just we'll talk about today.
We'll talk about how bad the offense look because clearly
there's a trend here. In the last four losses Bone,
the Panthers averaged ten point eight points a game. The
offense is getting completely shut down. So clearly this offense
(03:49):
needs to get better, right regards what average next week,
they need to get better, they need to get more consistent.
And we can talk about this. But this energy Bone
that I saw from and heard from some Panther fans
after the game yesterday, I mean, like, are y'all giving up?
Y'all even gonna watch on Saturday? Like I just I'm
not here for the energy of, oh my god, we're horrible.
(04:12):
We need to fire the coach, the quarterback sucks. I
told you I was right all along. I'm not here
for that. Like I'm here to have some constructive conversation.
I'm also here to laud the defense, which no one
seems to want to do either. Like I'm not on
here to act like Bone we are two and fourteen,
because we've been there before and I know what that is.
(04:33):
Like I ain't gonna act like that crap today, man,
I'm not think about what we're talking about. We're talking
about them losing a chance to win the division yesterday.
Think about how that would feel two years ago when
they had two wins there plus six wins over the
last two years. I'm sorry. That's a big difference, man,
from where we sit today analyzing a game in December,
to where we were late December a couple of years ago,
(04:55):
in before that for many years. So the fact BAC
that we're upset about austin December and what it means
to the best team in the NFL yes record, a
team that can win at all, a team that can
win at all. We're sitting here talking about a loss
in December and we're hurt by it. That's progress. Now.
Do you want to win the game, of course, but
it's progress. And I will say this, the Panthers lost
(05:16):
to the best team in football yesterday. Credit to the
best team in football. When the game play starts on Saturday,
one team is still playing hard. One team quit on
their season and it's not. It's not the Panthers and
Tampa Bay. Tampa Bay lose to Miamis and they've lost
seven of eight, they're one win and that stretches over
Arizona by three three. So who should be more concerned
about how they're playing right now? Panthers ran into ah
(05:38):
to a juggernaut yesterday, the Buccaneers ran into let me
check Quinn yours yesterday. That's a big difference. Yeah, yes, there's.
And that's the thing. If you can't beat Tampa as
horrible as the team as they have been for the
last two months, you don't deserve to get int the playoffs,
like we ain't ready. We ain't ready. So I like,
I don't think it was life. I sense bone that
(06:02):
that Tampa losing has added to people's anger. But it's like, Okay,
Tampa lost. We blew an opportunity. It wasn't like we
were going out there with an easy assignment. We're capable
of losing to the Saints twice, y'all. So should we
really be shocked that a team that is now seven
and one on the road and that defense is phenomenal,
our defense had them covered, man bone. They did not
(06:23):
have one touchdown drive of over twenty nine yards. Every
touchdown drive twenty one yards, twenty five yards, twenty one
yeards and that's one of the best offenses in football,
and our defense held them to three points in the
first half and six points on things that weren't short
drives set up by the offense's failures. So, like I
(06:45):
just there's got to be a little give and take.
There's got to be a little this and that in
our conversation. We cannot sit here and act like the
sky is falling, like we don't even desire. Some of
our fans don't deserve to wear keep pounding apparel like
I swear to God, like I swear to God like
And we've done this every week. You're giving yourself a
(07:06):
heart attack every other week by acting like this. And
credit to the fans that were there yesterday. It was
great that atmosphere was like that was like old school
ten years ago. The doghouse was covered with bander fans.
Fiddy and I were there before the game. The energy
was there. The offense. You gotta to keep the fans alive.
(07:27):
You've got to have some offense along the way. They
didn't have it yesterday. But I don't want to hear
any more about the fan base right now and how
they are because they were ready to go yesterday. Absolutely, man,
it was awesome. Atmosphere was great even in the conditions yesterday,
the fan base was, it was great. The doghouse, the
doghouse was the doghouse be popping yesterday. Doghouse has been
amazing all season, it really has been, and that yesterday
(07:48):
was especially so. And we were talking about it was
great yesterday too at the game. But I bet he was.
I bet you were impressed. Did you rather finally win
you over with the live experience as a pit bull
going after referee? You go after it, boss. You showed
up bonding with the vocals, high five at all he
he created the whole vibes in our secondary Panther's passing
game was missing in action. But you were there, huh, Finny.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
Yeah, but when I'm glad that you were, I guess
impressed and not embarrassed, No, because I was worried going
in because you haven't seen what what it is like
in the studio where we.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
Did drop in f you to somebody. As soon as
the game started in half the section turned. The lady
in front of us said, oh my, but they got
to know you after a while there You're all good. Yeah,
I gave that officiating crew my business.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
They missed three holding calls the first three run plays
of the game. We got to bring back five yard
and fifteen yard face mask because that was not a
fifty yard face mask. Or we could just more, I mean,
or we could just rap to more.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Than the face mask. But like JC got away with
one earlier in the game that maybe should have been called.
I also were not a fan of Rose Boom in person.
Yesterday was not a fair Boom made some plays yesterday.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
He also missed some plays that I need, I need
my I gotta make a ver did a good job
I thought scheming him. I thought he'd sent him on
some blitzes where he's there and he's filling the gap MAC,
but he's not making the play.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
I saw him make a tackle for loss. I saw
him make a couple of plays yesterday. I had a
couple I saw the defense. I don't know if you
think he's Ray Lewis in his prime, Luke Keigley. Maybe
I want him to be again, man, I just I
don't understand some people. I think the improvement has Panther
fans thinking that we should be in the Super Bowl
already this year. I think when we see the good Panthers,
I think we think, oh my god, we should be
(09:29):
that every week. We're not there yet, man, Dan Morgan,
he's another offseason to keep working, keep tweaking. Dave Canalis
needs to keep learning, and that was evidence by yesterday.
I thought Dave Canallis got out coached pretty badly. And
I also thought Dave Canalys was probably a little too
honest in the post game when he admitted that Seattle
surprised them by playing more man than they ever played.
That's this is why coaches don't say anything after a game.
(09:51):
They just say, tip your hat to him. They had
a great skate, they a great game plan. Like that's why,
because he incriminates himself because what he just admitted. Ted
McMillan or Temac uh talked about too like they had
they were surprised, and they really didn't seem to have
an answer to those coverages. They took away anything downfield.
And Bryce has been despite what some of you sky
(10:13):
is falling Bryce hating income poops are going to say today,
Bryce has been throwing the ball downfield really well and
it's been a big part of the good Panthers. But
you got to say it was the bad Panthers. We've seen
these games bone where they take teams take away or
our ability to throw it downfield. San Francisco the first
New Orleans game, and it looks like all the whole
(10:35):
game plan is run and checkdowns. I remember against San Francisco,
I'm like, what is the game plan? I'm convinced now
it's the way defenses are playing us at times and
they're taking that stuff away, and it does not it's
we are struggling. To everybody, everybody's there's criticism. Bryce canalis
izick I thought the offensive line had some really rough moments.
(10:57):
Obviously the game essentially ended. But when the game back
to back sacks down ten and I thought the receivers,
I thought there was it wasn't a whole lot of
winning going on from the receiver, So I just thought
it was a team effort. Man. It was. And once
the game got going and Seattle saw what they did
early in the fact that they basically took the passing
game away, Seattle just I'm not I'm not saying they're
(11:21):
relaxed on defense, but they settled in and once a
defense like that where they're good at all, three levels
settles in. They they they had no fear whatsoever of
anything the Panthers doing yesterday. We're not ready. I don't
think you've got to. You've got to put some fear
in a defense. They had nothing yesterday for that team.
I don't We got out coached, out played like on
that side of the ball. But then and it sucks
(11:43):
because the defense gave a chance to win. It sucks
because Miami pe Tampa there was a chance there. But
what this offense has come up short bone when it's
been the bad Panthers, when it's been the bad Panthers. Like,
there's a couple of drives during this win, one lose,
one stretch that I can blame on a arro on
the d defense in New Orleans in particular. But like
(12:04):
you look back at those four losses and tell me
who was the problem. It was the offensive side of
the ball. They're not there yet and they're not in
the The third down numbers tell a big story yesterday
as well. Yeah, on both sides is amazing. On third
down defense, they are amazing. Seattle goes nine for sixteen
offensively on third down. You said it there. The Panthers
(12:26):
had more fourth downs yesterday than third down convergence. They
were two for five on fourth downs even that when
grets a lot by the way of attempts, and they
were one for eleven as you just said, on third downs.
So one third down conversion the whole damn game yesterday.
That tells a lot. Tells you a lot there. Yeah,
J T. Sanders goes out. I hated for him, man,
And I'm sure we had a lot of three tight
end stuff planned that that kind of ended up hurting
(12:48):
there as well. I'm not saying that is the reason
why we lost like that. I just this offense ain't
there yet, and I don't think it means you gotta
make any drastic changes. But I don't know about you, Bone,
I think there needs to be some additions still to
this offense. The pass catching unit is young, and you
(13:10):
didn't help the team. Act was sick yesterday. He wasn't
a factor. I don't know if like they took him
out or if he just couldn't be himself. But the
pass catching doesn't have some bite when I don't know
it was Fitt or whoever brought up like a couple
of weeks ago. Could XL be cut and I thought,
surely you don't cut a first round pick going into
(13:32):
his third season. This dude, that's awful, man. I mean,
the little things he can't do, and then he can't
do any positive things hardly to offset the little things
he does bad. Coach Canalis, in another honest moment, revealed
in the post game that the referee was warning him
that he is offsides right now, and he still continued
(13:55):
to stand there offsides. I mean, it's he's a knucklehead man,
and that knucklehead stuff's fun on on him videos. It
ain't fundering the games. He has zero football awareness alre.
He doesn't know where the sidelines are most of the
time to get his feet down. He doesn't have the
basics down that he he should have learned a long
time ago. He's out there a lot also, but he's
(14:17):
not a threat by any means to catch the football really,
So he's out there to block, which he's good at.
But you can't have a guy Mack on the roster
that's a first round draft choice out there just to
block as a white out. I mean, he's got he's
gotta make plays. And even Mack, when the ball goes
his way, he might not get his feet down, he
may drop it. He may be involved in a penalty.
Like you're talking about, what are the percentage back of
(14:38):
positive plays that happen when XL is involved in a
play that goes as direction like eight percent or plenty
of negatives? Yep, plenty of mistakes. And it's the whittle things. Man,
he can't do the basics. He's an athlete. He's not
a football player. When does he become a football player.
When does he learn, like you're saying, the finer parts
of the game, or does that never occur? Some guys
(14:59):
are just athletes and never become football player. He played
five years in college and he's he committed. That's like
a guy. It took him five years to be worth
a class. It's thought he came in and like you know,
as a young, like twenty year old guy that played
a college, he came in five years of college. You're right,
you're right, man, So he frustrated him. You don't you
all don't think like so. I just this offense clearly
needs to be addressed. But I don't know if we
(15:22):
need to. Hey, Dave, you got to give up play calling.
I don't know if we need to, although I'm not
saying what he did was great yesterday. I don't know
if we need I certainly don't think we need to.
Oh get rid of Brice, But how about a tight
end who's a better pass catching threat? Yeah, and how
about a receiver to go with t Mech and Coker again? Right?
So like and the offensive line like, man, I really
(15:42):
hope Rob Hunt can play this week. I thought Corbett
had some rough moments, but I also thought Motin and
Icky had rough moments too. I thought the Seattle front
kicked our ass at times. I just I thought Seattle's
defense was flying around, but so was ours. Man, so
was ours. Our defense deserved better than that, man. They
really did. They got the hell after Sammy Mike Jack
(16:05):
had the big play, which he knew mental most unbelievable.
It met a lot to him yesterday because belie where
he came from. Derreck Brown. I was in the stand,
so I couldn't tell. We thought he picked it off.
Obviously didn't end up with the int but Dereck Brown,
And by the way, it's got to be said, as
we wrap up this segment here, the fact that Derrick
Brown did not get voted into the Pro Bowl. It's
one of the biggest jokes of all time. How is
(16:26):
that dude in back? It was such an egregious thing.
Brian Baldinger had to come in person yesterday and thought
to Derrick Brown about it. Brian Baldinger was on the
field talking to Derrick Brown. He said, I noticed you.
I noticed you frisbee tossing O lineman but barely the
voter's Dave Baldinger was showing his annoying. He was showing
his Pro Bowl votes. Hey, I got annoying Brown was.
I thought Brown was great yesterday. Ayshawn Robinson nine tackles
(16:47):
as a defensive tackle yesterday. I mean the hell A
few times I could go all around the list. One
of them I thought brought it yesterday. How about Scort
and forced fumble on a sack Rose boom Brand and
got that ball. Fitty wasn't impressed like I just his
defense is getting there. And they still need pieces on
defense too, but they're getting there. Man. So I was
(17:08):
watching Scoring a lot in the in the pre snap stuff.
Mack he just has one of those. He's one of
those guys. He's an animal. You just noticed that he's
got a prejudice, like almost like stalking the offensive line
before the snap. He's one of those guys you would
get if you didn't know anything about the defense, you'd
say that dude's a killer.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
He's like the blunder at the bow Jangles drive through.
He's a man possessed.
Speaker 1 (17:27):
He is he is a football player, and the intensity
plays with like, yeah, man, give me more of that.
Let's let's mold this kid and see how good he
can be. But anyway, we'll talk about it. We'll also
talk about so the games that I can't say this
enough because I realized not everybody like I did. Bone
stayed up to almost quarter of midnight because I so
(17:47):
badly wanted to know what time this. Oh, by the way,
it was a really good football game on NBC Tooers
held off Chicago to win thirty eight. I'm fresh for
the time off, so I was up as well watching that.
I just I a great game, but I really wanted
to know when we're playing. It's Saturday on ABC and
ESPN at four point thirty in Tampa. And quite honestly,
(18:07):
they're not a good football team. If we don't beat them,
it's certainly on us. We certainly have a ways to
go if we can't make the playoffs over this damn
Tampa team. Do you also have the weird angle tonight
where I guess we're rooting for Atlanta. I guess Whereas
if Atlanta could beat the Rams tonight and beat the
Saints on Sunday for the record, I think they will
lose both, but if they can. If they can and
(18:32):
the Panthers were to lose to the Bucks, the Panthers
would still win the division based on a three way
tie tiebreaker, which is records amongst the three teams. Panthers
would then go on to tiber That would be the
ultimate NFC South way to get into the playoffs. Yeah,
you always want to count Atlanta back in the big
spot for yourself, right, Well, they'll probably lose twenty eight
(18:54):
to three in one of these games, and one just'll
laugh at them a game, that's all right. Their new
executive reportedly could be Matt Ryan. Ryan could be on
the way to say by when we come back. Baker's
trying to rally the troops in Tampa. We also recapped
some highlights of a busy sports weekend, including another Hornets
win but an injury. We didn't want to see Sports
(19:15):
Radio seven WFZ.
Speaker 4 (19:34):
Have a chance at home to get int the playoff
and win with the division. Wouldn't have it any other way.
And obviously the things leading up to it, yeah, we'd
love to change them. But still have a chance playing
for the division at home, and I'll get this group
ready more urgency.
Speaker 5 (19:49):
Right, you're literally out of bullets now, man.
Speaker 4 (19:51):
Out of bullets, out of lives, and that's all right
with me.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
There you go, Baker May. He's still trying to be
the badass, Baker badass, you know what I mean. He's
still trying to lead this team, that team down there
in Tampa. He's still trying to speak it into existence.
I don't want to talk too much bone because we
(20:20):
all know what happens when Mackie pom Poms gets talking
to touting. So I don't want to mac curse it.
But it just feels like Macki pomp Pom. That pirate
ship is going under man, you know what I mean.
No matter how much Captain Baker Sparrow tries tries to
keep that pirate ship up the mess. They've been in
(20:40):
a spiral now for for two full months. You keep
waiting for them to get it back. And sometimes in
this league, when you keep waiting for a team to
get it back, they just don't. And that's why last
Monday I talked about, Hey, the Dolphins, even with Quinn yours,
this is a spot where they could do something. I've
been on Miami yesterday to cover. They not only cover,
(21:02):
they won. How About at one point yesterday the Panthers
were down twenty to ten to the best team in football.
At the same time, Tampa Bay was down twenty to
ten to one of the worst teams in football. With
Quinn you weers very very NFC South or Matt right
right where they're both down twenty two. Yeah, I'm I
think it's obvious who did the more shameful thing yesterday.
All Right, I think it's very obvious. But it doesn't matter.
(21:25):
Both those teams will share a field Saturday at four thirty.
I can't wait, and I feel like that's justified. Fitty
seemed a little upset that we did not get up
more of a primetime slot, but then he also seemed
to indicate it was because the tar Heel game is
on while would be doing the post game. It was
a free game. Show it was about himself on Saturday,
because there you can see where that was headed back
(21:46):
with Pittsburgh was in the Cleveland yesterday. You knew that
the NFL was another crappy blown opportunity. You know, the
NFL was salvating for Pittsburgh Baltimore in primetime and then
Seattle San Francisco is for the number one seed of
the three games? Does that matter? You could almost figure
out and piece together what was gonna happen. I feel
like in the NFL office as they talked through this one,
(22:06):
they said, all right, how much do we want to
feature this game? This is for a division title? Johnny?
You watch the Panthers today? How they look? They threw
it for fifty four yards? Now, I gouged my eyes
out during their eighth offensive possession. Okay, Johnny. So Johnny's
saying that the Panthers might not be a good watch
for America. Let me go over to Teddy. Teddy, you
(22:29):
were watching the Bucks. You've been watching them the last
two months. Oh my god, Teddy is to flee the facility.
Teddy left the note I will never watch this team
play again. So anyway, like at to Bone's point, that
is my way of illustrating your point bone, It's not
necessarily the prettiest thing in the world. Now. I don't
think Baltimore and Pittsburgh is very pretty either. But you've
(22:52):
got Aaron Rodgers, you got the chance of maybe Lamar
Jackson coming back. You have Derek Henry who just went
off in Lambeau like rivalry. I kind of felt I
even tweeted about it yesterday when some whiny bum was
on Twitter that NFC self game better up eut a
Sunday night game. I don't even I forget who the
hell was, and I quote tweeted and said, how about
(23:13):
we just do Saturday four thirty. And that's what that was.
That was the makes sense. That was the Bucks fan
chat from Barstool. Yeah, he was a barstool guy. Okay,
so he didn't even want his bus. He was talking
about his own team. He wantn't even there, which is
probably what the Buccaneers don't want to see either. I
don't think the Buck I don't think the Bucks of
their fans. I think there are multiple members of the Bucks,
and I think most of their fans would literally say
(23:37):
we pass on the game on honestly, answers are happy
to be in this spot. Bucks are disgusted because they
thought they were above this spot this year. The real
test back for the NFL officely is Johnny and Eddy
will be next next Saturday at that four to thirty spot,
which has been owned by the Texans. If it's the
Texans up for the four to thirty spot in the
NFC South winner, they're gonna have a real debate. Where
(23:59):
do we put Bucks or the Panthers, and where do
we put the Houston Texans? Because the Texans own four
to thirty on Saturday. Yeah, they do. But I was
thinking about that. I was thinking about the exact thing.
I think we're earmarked for four thirty on Saturday. Whoever
wins our division. Texans are really good right now, and
they aren't. They were probably playing a four or five game. Yeah,
that could be Texans Bills. Yeah. Am I right about that?
(24:19):
Or am I wrong about that?
Speaker 4 (24:22):
No?
Speaker 1 (24:22):
It would be yeah, So I mean that's a huge
game the way that Texas defense is playing. It won
eight in a row. Yeah, would it be four? Yeah?
I think so. Yeah. I was looking at the AFC
standings in my mind and doing this, But I don't know.
I might be. You know, I could be pulling a
Panthers offense and making a mistake here. I couldn't it
very possible. But anyway, I think your answer is NFC
South team goes there. So anyway, we'll talk about it today.
(24:47):
Formal Timothy is back to being a negative ninny. I
heard him on Willy's post game show yesterday calling J C.
Horn essentially I think a bad corner, I believe is
what it was. I believe it was the gist of
his phone call, Timothy, You're losing your mind, bro, You're
losing your mind. And I think the best way to
phrase this is this. And I did actually hear one
or two callers say this to Willie and the postgame
show the rest of y'all sounded like you're rooting for
(25:10):
a two and fourteen team. It was unbelievable. The point
has to be made Texan Steelers right now, Texan Steelers. Okay,
all right? If you if you if I offered every
Panther fan before the season, you're playing in Tampa and
it's for the division title, would every fan take that?
(25:32):
I'm thinking I'm thinking almost one hundred percent, if not
one hundred percent of fans with him. Why would you
not so so sign for that? So at some point,
can we stop crying and can we start to realize
where this team has come this year? There are they
where we want them to be Ultimately, Hell, though, fifty
four yards pass, it'll tell you that. You know, let's
(25:52):
go back to August Mac and we're gonna go through
that scenario that you talked about. Panthers will have eight
wins going into the final week. They're going to like
on the road at Tampa and Tampa is struggling for
two months as one of the worst five teams in football.
They're not going to face Tampa back the final week
the Tampa we thought they were. This is not twelve
win Tampa. Baker MVP Tampa. If we told you Panthers
(26:16):
would be three point underdogs at Tampa but the better
football team, you'd say, Oh, I'm taking that all day long. Yeah.
I mean, that's that's another thing too, And we'll talk
about it all today. Man, We've got people wanting to
take the play calling from Canalis, So we got a
lot of things to talk about today. I don't think
we need knee jerk. I think we just need another
offseason of Dan Morgan cooking. But hopefully in the meantime
(26:37):
we can beat a team that I think we're better then.
But it doesn't matter what I think, doesn't matter what
you think. They got to go out there and do it.
But hopefully it'll be the good Panthers on the field
on Saturday. We just watched the bad ones on offense.
Hopefully it's the good ones. I do want to mention
a couple of other things in the world of sports.
I mean, it's going to be I know what you're
here for today, man, I will this is Panther team
(27:00):
as us captivated, fired up in a good way, fired
up in a bad way. I mean, there's just so
much going on with our panther selves. So we'll talk
through it all day today. But I do want to
mention some of the other stuff that went on this weekend.
Bone the Charlotte Hornets won a basketball game in Orlando
pretty damn convincingly too, and they had to play the
second half without Khanka Nipple. Good news is they win
(27:22):
one twenty one oh five over Orlando. I have a
feeling not having a deal with either of the Flying
Wagner's had something to do with that. Thank God, because
I hate those two guys. They kill us. But the
Hornets got it done. Bone seven guys and double figures,
including Khan, who before his ankle injury, had sixteen points
in that first quarter. He was on fire, man, Yeah,
he was on fire. Someone I know sent out a
(27:43):
tweet about Cohn and the All Star Game and that
damn ankle he had his. Is that your Hornets initiation
officially boned when you have your first injury? And he
he's gonna miss tonight, But Charles Lee said yesterday he's
already trying to practice. Say he's I'm not gonna melt
this the way we think. Maybe we wonder if other
guys do. Yeah, he was walking around his brother's game
(28:05):
at Myrtle Beach yesterday with no limbs. So he made
it there, so I will. I have a feeling mad
that CON's gonna get out there as quick as he
possibly can.
Speaker 6 (28:13):
Mad.
Speaker 1 (28:13):
Do you know what it's like to have a dark
cloud a curse around you? I try not to live
tweet a lot of games anymore because every time I do,
it comes back and bites me in my big old
white took us. So the other night I only tweeted
once about the Hornets. It was, Hey, I think Gon
is having the All Star year. He may not make
it because he's a rookie and he's in Charlotte. It
might be hard to make it. But he's having an
all Star year. Four and a half minutes later, I'm
(28:35):
watching con go to the locker room and I thought, oh,
there he goes. It's over. That's my I'm not tweeting.
I'm not tweeting during a game ever. Again, I'm not
going to I'm not tweeting anymon I to shut myself down. Yeah,
you were doing the cursing. There's a weird weekend bone
where you were doing the cursing. You think that, and
God won't be cursing in twenty twenty six, and you
will be. How about the Hornets seven and six in
their last thirteen games. Yeah, four and two in their
(28:56):
last six got the Bucks tonight unfortunately, though Yannis was
back healthy over the weekend. They're the team in front
of us in the uh the standings right now, we're
a game and a half behind them. They're thirteen and nineteen,
but uh, they certainly are Again that that's a that's
a winnable contest for the hornet. We're gonna talk about
it as the show goes on. H T Jon Salons
(29:17):
now turned into a player that honestly I watch and
I get excited when he checks in the gap, like
I love watching t Jon Salon now And maybe is
that hope for his favor league? Get Can he be?
Can he be the football salon? Because we're in French?
Maybe that helps. But here's the difference though, Bone t
Jon was one of the youngest players in the NFL
as a rookie, and he was very role right NBA,
(29:41):
you know, NBA, whatever league he plays and work with
me here all right? Uh, you guys in your mind,
correct my mistakes as we go. Uh we do that
for four hours. Uh, don't tell Grandpaul what you know
what he messed up on, just like legit. Treat me
Bone like your grandpa, your father, although you probably tell
your father he's it up. Matter of fact, most people
probably do, actually the one. But anyway, I digress. He's
(30:03):
learning how to play basketball and it's a beautiful thing
to watch. He had fourteen nine. He's making plays on defense,
He's hitting the hell out of the boards, the offensive
boards too. He is setting other guys up his passing
like that is a dude who you are just watching
Bone learn how to play basketball. It's a really cool thing. Man.
He's averaging in the month of December, which is almost over,
(30:26):
He's averaging ten points a game, four rebounds. He's shooting
fifty percent from three this month. He's the future of
that spot. So whenever they want to move on from
Miles Bridges, whenever that comes up, we'll see they now
Matt because of player development, they can now slide tj
On into that spot. And they're they're not have to
pay him a ton yet, so they can they can
(30:47):
eventually move off of Miles salary and get something out
of teach On on his rookie deal. Yeah, and I still
do one day with ways to go. I still wonder
is his ultimate spot and energy guy off the bench.
I mean, he's pure energy. I wonder at Moosa too,
I wonder are those two guys that supposed to be
the French energy connection, you know what I mean? Like
moving forward as we grow as a team. But both
(31:08):
of those guys play their high knees off. Man. So anyway,
that was pretty cool end for once. Bone the opposing
coach went well. Actually, Charles Lee doesn't get mad when
we lose. That's a bad comment, wouldn't make sense. But anyway,
we ticked off the opposing coach, Jamal Mosley. This was enjoyable.
Speaker 5 (31:27):
The bottom line, Charlotte came in here and kicked our ass.
There's another way to put it. Excuse me my language. Sorry,
but they did give them a ton of credit. They've
been playing great basketball one of the last three out
of five. Charles is doing a heck of a job
with that group, and that's what they did tonight.
Speaker 1 (31:45):
So there you go about that. They're making some strides.
You want another stab bacdad, I'll tickle your French fancy
here on on your French fancy. Hey. Now, he's playing
nineteen minutes a game in December since he came back, right,
he's averaging zero points, six turnovers a game. He has
seven turnovers the entire month. Think about when we saw
(32:06):
him last year and we would go, he'd get the
ball and he'd have no breaks, he'd up in the crowd.
He's got zero points, six turnovers a game in nineteen minutes.
That is a major upgrade, so much more under the control.
Control cans knows his role isn't trying to go one
on five on the fast break. When he does drive,
now it's straight line, boom to the basket he finishes.
(32:28):
He also watched his passing. He had a extra pass
to LaMelo in the fourth quarter for three. He had
a drive and kick assist like it's coming together man
for him. So anyway, that's kind of cool to see. Also,
Bone wanted to shout out ECU Clemson. Will deal with
Clemson and Penn State. Bone, you talk about a game
(32:51):
too ugly for America Clemson, I've seen some ugly games
at Yankee say to you before that takes the cake.
Those two disappointing flops. But anyway, Penn State did end
up winning it. Good for Terry Smith, the interim coach.
But ECU Bone ends up getting a win against Pittsburgh.
(33:11):
And these bowl games are crazy. There's so many new
people playing Bone, there's so many guys that are out,
have opted out, coaches leave, stuff like that. But I
gotta give credit to ECU. They also got screwed Bone.
One of the worst jobs god ever seen by the referees.
Could you imagine what ECU Fiitty would have screamed at
those referees. If that if ECU Fitty was a guy.
(33:33):
They Gunn Marlon Gunn breaks a long touchdown on fourth
and short like literally breaks like seven tackles, gets out
in the open field, and they blow a whistle for
some reason. And then they say even though by the
time they blew a whistle, he had already broken free
the last defender, they call it back say nope, we're
gonna blow that dead. Sorry, are bad now. They bounced
back bone and Anthony Smith had a big long touchdown
(33:55):
after it because they gave up. They gave up a
touchdown right after that, and I thought, oh no, are
they going fall apart? Very ball game like sequence going
on there, back and forth, whistles blowing. That was yeah,
that was a crazy little part of that game. Listen
to Blake Carroll, the head coach, who by the way,
is fourteen and five at ECU. ECU won nine games,
their most in twelve years. A ECU fans, I know
(34:16):
you've lost a lot. The coordinator Sam not Sam Hawser
Hayden Hauser. Who's Sam hawserd that's Celtic. Okay, all right,
there we go again. Bone. I'm your father or your grandfather.
All right, now much think that was not Sam Howard.
Think that way, y'all. But anyway, listen to Blake Carroll,
You got yourself a leader. Pirate fans. You know college.
Speaker 2 (34:36):
Football calendar, doesn't it still match up the way it
should to keep the focus on the main thing in
postseason playing in bowl games? And I think they're still
so good for our sport and college football and what
they bring to our fan bases just across the country.
You know, we could have focused on losing an offensive coordinator,
defensive coordinator, or a quarterback or any other player, but
(34:57):
that was not our focus. Our focus was on the
man locker room. Those guys that pulled together, married about
each other, married about going to get him one last
win and putting them or nine on the board. And
that's pretty special. And I think, you know that's hard
to do where a kid or individuals or players sit
(35:18):
there and say, hey, I'm gonna make it more about
the team than myself. And that's why I'm proud of
the man in that locker room right now.
Speaker 1 (35:23):
I love that man, Carol Man. That dude's a leader. Man.
They so the quarterback Mack not Ditka, which I thought
I was the other day. Did a freshman, Yeah, they
pulled the red shirt off of but didn't matter because
he didn't play that many games. So they could that's
what these teams can do in these games. Awesome, but
they could play a freshman, getness of experience and not
lose the year. So he plays in a ball game,
beats Pittsburgh and he's got four years to go. Still,
(35:45):
Now where will he end up in four years? That's
anybody's gas. But right now he's easy used quarterback. We'll talk.
We'll talk Clemson later, little did not the little dit Cus.
We'll talk pop Tart Shenanigans. What a what a show?
That was my guy. Anyway, Anyway, we got things to
do here, Bonie. When we come back on the Mac
and Bone Show, it is Sounds of the Weekend. Derek
(36:06):
Brown may have you may have cussed a little bit
in the post game. Charles Barkley has some issues, and
Tom Izzo is not happy about a former Hornets draft
joys that will play college basketball this year. Sports Radio NFZI.
Speaker 7 (36:44):
I think my will just kind of, you know, take
what coach is saying and you know, appreach it as well.
I mean, if you don't understand.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
What we got on the line now.
Speaker 7 (36:50):
I don't know what else to tell you. This is
that we live for a planning the league, so to
be able to have this opportunity, especially for me in
a situation where I've never really had this opportunity, I'm
lay it all online.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
Just talk a little bit more about that, Derek.
Speaker 2 (37:02):
I mean, you haven't been on a lot of teams
that go down to the week eighteen, and here it is.
Speaker 7 (37:06):
In front of you to be playing metaphor football and
deceummer Man.
Speaker 1 (37:09):
That's all I asked for.
Speaker 7 (37:11):
You know, would love to have been in a situation
you know where we already locked in. But you know,
it is what it is. We gotta go out here
and we gotta work. We got Week eight team next
week in Tampa. Whether it's Friday or Saturday or Sunday morning, Carroll,
we just got to get down there.
Speaker 1 (37:23):
And get ready to play, all right, Daz once again
every Monday. I gotta tell you, those little those are
not audio glitches. Those are Derek Brown being edited out
as he's cussing. I love his no nonsense approach. Bonie. Yeah,
you might have to hide the children when DB's doing pressers.
(37:44):
But I just love the no nonsense approach when he talks,
and he is right. This team should be fully ready
to go, and I trust that the fans would be
fully ready to go, even the Mopi Head fans today,
Bonie that I'm going back to willarthpises, but I trust
and fans were amazing yesterday. To your point and everybody's point,
(38:06):
they were amazing yesterday at the Bank, no doubt about.
They des are better from this offense. But Derek Brown's
right this, there's no doubt in my mind this team's
going to be ready to go, chomping at the bit.
You think of guys like Dereck Brown and j. C.
Horn and Chewba Hubbard. Bone, this is the biggest NFL
game they will ever play. This is essentially a playoff game.
On Saturday, well, they're playing the Cabo Buccaneers. They're gonna
(38:30):
be ready to freaking go, and I trust by Saturday, Bone,
everybody in Panther Nation is going to be ready to
go as well. Because we did not waste the opportunity,
all right. I mean, I guess you could say they
blew a chance yesterday obviously, but the opportunity is still
freaking there man, And they don't have to beat the
(38:51):
damn seventy two dolphins to get there, all right. D
brown Back a very seamless cusser, though, is and he
doesn't really change his cadence. He just all of a sudden,
there's an F bomb. He doesn't really you don't see
a company, doesn't change the inflection point for effect. He
just it's in his natural vocab where he just rolls on.
Speaking of that Fitty, Do I understand this right, that
(39:11):
that Flounder dropped a seamless F bomb on the air
the other day that he had to be done for
right correct, right in the middle of conver He he
came in on it together on these airwaves, and he
dropped in that palm at you. Fitty, Yes, plays up together,
flound We had.
Speaker 3 (39:26):
Two big arguments last week, and two big arguments led
to Flounder being dumped twice.
Speaker 1 (39:32):
I have to tell you this, though your finder has
been dump more than twice. You're as he. I don't
even think he's at it. You gotta have a you
gotta have anyway. But anyway, Fitty your argument. I appreciate
Fitty defending Bryce Young, but you're standing up for Bryce
Young in an argument comparing Bryce to Drake May did
(39:53):
not age. Well.
Speaker 3 (39:56):
I'm hoping it's gonna age like a nice wine or
an Kentucky bourbon, Mac.
Speaker 1 (40:01):
Bone even I'm not trying to take on Drake May
with my number one weapon being Bryce Young. Like you
know what I'm saying. Like New England's got themselves. I
believe in elite quarterback for years to come. But that
doesn't mean Bryce can't be a good one. Well, he
performed well against the carcass yesterday. By the way side,
note here, Mac, I didn't see it, but I heard
all about it. How does a football team in the Jets,
(40:22):
who got smoke rolled by New England down twenty five?
How did the Jets get a tawning penalty down by
twenty five in the game yesterday. That's shame. The Jets
were taunting Mac down twenty eight to three. That is
that play would be cut. That is shameless and sad.
Let me get that neck Fitny would cut him right
after he cuts Rose Boom. God, how dare you slander
(40:42):
boom Man? Look at something my phone.
Speaker 3 (40:44):
I'll hold Rose Boom to a high linebacker play standards.
Speaker 1 (40:47):
I mean just because he's a white Panther linebacker. Okay,
he doesn't have to be Luke Ki Klee.
Speaker 3 (40:51):
When you set the Lester County record for for tackles
in a season, I had one hundred and eight in
my seventh grade year.
Speaker 1 (40:57):
No you didn't, you didn't. There's how is I don't
think that keep me tracks as the seventh grader? My
dad did? Your dad, dad? But did he track everybody
else in the county?
Speaker 6 (41:06):
Though?
Speaker 3 (41:07):
When he approached the kind of the county said, we
don't have a number higher than that.
Speaker 1 (41:10):
No, you got you got tackled one hundred and eight times.
God to think you Flounder and Willie p All have
defense in your past. That that's what a varro needs
to take it to the next level. Three of you
we have like in all Maddens staff of players here.
All right, anyway, let's get back to the Sounds talk
about their past a compligence back like me playing for
the Boudreau's Welding Jazz at ninety nine. Just Bone doesn't
(41:33):
even talk about sports of colleges. He just talks about
knowing someone as good as sports go to. Chris Paul
got it. Chris Paul signed rookie card for Christmas. Don't
say he doesn't know me, sign something for me. Oh wow,
I'm sure. All right, let's go to sounds. Let's get
some more sounds in the weekend in if you're looking
to blame people for that pathetic offensive performance, uh, coming
(41:54):
up at seven o'clock, we play the blame game because
they absolutely got taken to the cleaners, players, coach, everybody
when the offense was on the field against that Seattle defense.
Let's go to Charles Barkley Bone who spent part of
his Christmas on the air. By the way, I will
say this, I love having those boys on the air
on Christmas. That was real cool having those guys. I
mean I watched more of them the games. I feel
(42:15):
like it was the appearance in like a month or so,
but it felt really cool to have them as a
part of Christmas Day. But anyway, Charles Barkley spent part
of his time being mad that the NFL is playing
on Christmas.
Speaker 8 (42:28):
It's tremendous because you've got five games as nobody else playing.
You know, the NFL got greed and started a Christmas game.
We used to have this day to ourselves, but you know,
Roger Goodell and them pigs at the NFL always wanted
a hog every day of the week.
Speaker 7 (42:43):
Now they can't play.
Speaker 1 (42:47):
The NBA. Dude.
Speaker 8 (42:49):
Then I saw those guys yesterday on the ESPN talk
about it, and they're right.
Speaker 1 (42:54):
Christmas is an NBA day. So there go Charles telling
the NFL to get off of our day. I'm not
sure Roger is gonna listen. He'll add more. What he's
gonna do is back. He'll eventually warn how, he'll figure
out how to He'll figure out how to flex that day.
Eventually he'll he'll try to get the best matchups on Christmas.
(43:16):
I don't know how I'll do it, but at some
point in time he's gonna no, no, he's not going
the other way. Those were some games, Mabe. Well, he
will increase it somehow, or he'll try to change the matter.
Those were some dud games, and the NBA had some
amazing games they did, but I'm still convinced many more
people watching the dud NFL games. Oh you no doubt, Seriously,
Charles like, I love that approach. I love that approach.
(43:36):
Don't put your superior product in America loves more than
the product that we have, but America doesn't anyway. All right,
let's get to one more clip here on Sounds of
the Weekend. Derek Nasey, right, is the name of the
player Bone, James Nausey. Again, I'm Grandpaul, I'm dad, all right,
work with me here. James Nausey is the guy that
(43:58):
the Hornets drafted in what year was that, twenty twenty two?
It's been like three years, right, and he has not
been with the Hornets yet. He has played overseas a bone.
He is now signing with Baylor to play college basketball
and be eligible immediately. This one is odd. This one
(44:19):
is beyond odd. And he's not the only one. Isn't
the kid uh Nikola? What do you say? His name?
Topicch go top topic from Okay? Isn't he signing to
to play college basketball? I did? I did not see
that one, honestly. I feel like that. I feel like
I saw that too. We're starting to see guys bone.
We've seen it before. Were guys play second round bad
(44:42):
so two years ago? Now he's going to go back
and have four years of college eligibility. Many people in
college basketball are are pissed at this development, that this
is legal tom Izzo is among that group.
Speaker 6 (44:56):
I'm not saying that we're holier than no art or anybody,
shape not do that, said that, but if we're dipping
into that one, if it's like I'm reading or hearing,
I don't read it because I don't go on Twitter,
but what I'm hearing, and now we're taking guys that
were drafted in the NBA and everything. I said it
(45:17):
to you a month and a half ago. Come on,
Magic and Gary, let's go, baby, you know, let's do it.
Why not? I mean, if that's what we're going through,
shame on the NCAA. You know, shame on the coaches too,
But shame on the NCAA because coaches are gonna do
what they gotta do, I guess. But the NCAA is
(45:39):
the one those people and those committees that are making
those decisions to allow something so ridiculous and not think
of the kid. So everybody talks about me thinking of
my program or selfish, No, get that straight, Parolea. I'm
thinking of what is best for my son if he
was in that position, and I just don't agree with it.
Speaker 1 (46:01):
Yeah, they've got they've got to change something in here.
Not only that James Dodgy's been playing pro basketball, not
even just at the NBA. He's been playing pro basketball
since twenty twenty for FC Barcelona, so he's got six
years experience in general, gets drafted by the NBA. Man,
this would be a very Hornets thing. By the way,
for the Hornets to draft the kid have his rights.
They trade him away because I didn't see much in
(46:23):
him as a prospect. He then goes to college basketball.
Watch him become like a lottery pick this year for Baylor.
So he's done. Let him go. Watch him go put
up like fifteen to ten and be a lot of
Does he remain Nick's property? No, I think he goes
goes back into the draft. I think he goes back
into the draft. I think that seems weird. I think
so now that would be Hornet stuff. If they literally
took him from us, I think he does. I have
to look at that. I kind of thought he because
(46:44):
it remained Hornets property. But what do I know? Because
it appears I fell for a fake Nicolete How do
you say it? Topitch? Topitch is going to Oklahoma. I
might have fallen for a fake Bony. I saw there
was this weekend There was a lot of confusion about this.
Guy saw a lot of like college people UNC fans
and Duke fans like talking about like guys they wanted
(47:06):
to get, like jokingly into college, but Naji didn't actually
like play like they were they un see and Duke
fans and other fans. They wanted like guys that like
played in the league for white years. It's like, no, no,
you can't just go all of a sudden go back
into college. Like you can't get a guy back like uh, Duke,
can't go get a guy that left early like a
uh Trevor uh uh one of the one of the
(47:28):
players were a couple of years ago. You can't go
back in there and get the guy back again. No,
these guys he didn't play. Here's here's like college. Here's
the thing about this. This doesn't seem right. But if
when the NCAA, hopefully they'll do something about this. But
if they do, you know what else is gonna happen.
The guys that play in Europe professionally are probably not
going to be allowed to yes, because when the Europeans
(47:50):
come here after playing pro basketball, no one is really
bad than I like Luca u NC like no one
is bad than I. These guys were playing pro basketball overseas. Yeah,
so it feels like that would probably fall under the
same umbrella. And that's you know, those just a good player.
They can't get international players. What's more, if you're going
to do now, there goes his rosters. I mean, I
(48:11):
guess you get international guys don't play professionally. But anyway,
we'll see that. This is me assuming the NCAA will
do something about this, right, And that's that's definitely not
a safe assumption. Yes, when we come back here on
the MAC and Bojow top of the hour, who to
blame for the Panthers blown opportunity against Seattle? And will
be bought? Find someone else to blame? Sports Radio ninety
(48:34):
two to seven WFNZ
