Speaker 1 (00:17):
You know, I think that this is a group, you know,
that gives high effort, you know, a lot of strain,
and we're hard on them, They're hard on each other.
And I think that's one of the coolest parts. Again,
these are this is the defense getting together before each
team period. They get together before they go and break
out there and get on the field, which is pretty unique.
You know, I haven't seen this in a while, really,

(00:37):
really since I was in Seattle for a couple of
those years where we had a group that played so
long together. They kind of get together before they go out.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
This is a commitment.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
Here we go and from snap one to snap ten,
you know, it's a physical bunch of guys just trying
to blow things up.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
Freddie White would call us uff like that, say, man,
we gotta come out here, go bust people up.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
Get ready, yeah, get ready.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
So I know what you're talking about.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
I love that.

Speaker 4 (00:59):
That is canals. You heard Eugene Robinson there. That was
Panther talk the other night on WBT. I did not
think bone that we would go from the worst defense
potentially in NFL history, certainly in multiple categories two a
legion of boom. Comparison for our defense from coach Canalis
before we even play a regular season game.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
But here we are, baby, and I'm here for it.

Speaker 4 (01:23):
Any little thing that the defense is better about, and
if it's, hey, they're more together this year. They're more
on the same page, and it reminds him, if anything
reminds him of the great Seattle defenses when he was
in Seattle.

Speaker 5 (01:36):
I'll take it, all right. I won't take it too seriously,
but I'll take it. Just please don't become the legion
of gloom.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
Please.

Speaker 5 (01:42):
That was last year. Yes, that was definitely last year.
Defense all GUIDs of gloom last year. But anyway, all right,
so I thought that was interesting and notable. I did
not see that coming. How will the defense play? How
improved are they? Will start to see that? On Sunday
in Jacksonville a couple of promotional things. KB and I
will be out.

Speaker 4 (02:04):
And about at Twin Peaks in Concord for the pregame
eleven to one. So if you're looking for a spot
to watch the games or even just look at you
just want to stop out, grab a bite, say hi
before you're going wherever you're gonna go to watch the game,
come on out to Twin Peaks in Concord also wanted
to welcome ESPN Radio. We are now a proud ESPN

(02:25):
radio affiliate. So you will hear, you know, all the
ESPN when it's not local programming, you will hear the
ESPN programming, which is a pretty big brand to get
associated with. So we're glad to have them in the mix.
But so does this mean that steven A and the
rest of us are now co workers?

Speaker 2 (02:41):
Yeah, there you go if you can use that if
you want.

Speaker 4 (02:42):
To, you want to report steven A and Hr I
don't know, maybe, hey, we can't go that far.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
But anyway, all right, let's talk about it.

Speaker 5 (02:51):
I knew one day i'd work with Matt dog Russa
and there.

Speaker 4 (02:53):
You go, man, there you go. All right, so let's
do this. The Panthers FPI. ESPN does this FPI thing, right,
Football Power Index. They do it for college as well.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
You know.

Speaker 4 (03:03):
They put a bunch of numbers into a computer and
boom they pop all these probably.

Speaker 5 (03:07):
Clemson, like twenty four this week or something like that.
You are somewhere in the twenties. You're very proud to announcement.
Oh don't you No, I thought that was pretty absurd
that they felt that for him was the LSU. It
just shows you what kind of system they got going on. Well,
they're ahead of the Panthers. The Panthers are twenty eighth.
FPI did their rankings for the NFL and they've got
the Panthers freaking twenty eighth. But anyway, I want to

(03:30):
focus on some of the other numbers in here they had.
They list every team's chance to make the playoffs and
every team's chance to win the division based off FPI
formula right, computer gobbledegook Right, The Panthers are given a
twenty one percent chance to make the playoffs and a
fourteen percent chance to win the division. That's third highest

(03:52):
to win the division, behind the Bucks and the Falcons.
And that is bone the sixth lowest playoff chance in
the entire dang NFL.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
What do you think of those numbers?

Speaker 4 (04:04):
And I'm asking every you know, Panther fans that are listening,
what do you think of those numbers? Twenty one percent
chance to make the playoffs, fourteen percent chance to win
the South? Are those too low? Are those just right?
Are those too high?

Speaker 2 (04:16):
What do you say? Bony?

Speaker 5 (04:18):
Fourteen percent chance to win the South or the playoff.
What was the number exactly again?

Speaker 4 (04:22):
Fourteen percent chance to win the South, twenty one percent
chance to make the playoffs.

Speaker 5 (04:26):
I think they should be somewhere near the Falcons. I
don't think they should be that far apart in the Falcons.
Chance to make the playoffs per FBI, what's thirty seven
point four chance to win the division was twenty six
point five. I think whatever the number is, it should
not be that far from the Falcons, because I think
they're rather close to each other this season.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
That's what I think.

Speaker 5 (04:49):
I think it's lower than I want it to be,
but I think it should be at least near the Falcons.

Speaker 4 (04:55):
I was thinking the same damn thing, really, I was. Now,
the Bucks are forty eight percent chants to win the division,
fifty eight percent chance to make a playoffs, New Orleans
ten point nine percent chance to win the division?

Speaker 2 (05:06):
How do they that close to us?

Speaker 5 (05:07):
Both of those? Seventeen percent chance to make the playoffs?
Tampa Bay, I thought might be higher than that. To
be honest with you, I.

Speaker 4 (05:14):
Would I if I were to break it down. Maybe
that's where we start with this is where do you?
Where would y'all put your percentage chances of how would
you break down if it's if it's one of those
pie charts, right, how do you break down what percent
each team in the South has to win the division?
Because I would probably put the Bucks at fifty and
the FPI Hashim at forty eight to win the division,

(05:36):
and then I would probably put the Panthers in the
Falcons bone I think tied kind of like you're talking about.
I view us as very close. We just beat their
ass in a game they needed to stay in the
playoff hunt last year. I wish to America could remember
that in their house too. By the way, I think
we should be very even. I think the Saint should
literally have like a two percent chance. So I would

(05:58):
go fifty percent chance for the Bucks to win the division,
Falcons and Panthers twenty four percent chance each, and then
I would go New Orleans two percent chance. The fact
that New Orleans has an eleven percent chance. What the
hell is going on with this damn computer? This computer
needs to get taken out back like office space and
beaten into obliteration.

Speaker 5 (06:18):
Seriously, what is this by Michael Bolton? Yes, yes, I
watch that movie Feiti.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
I've seen it, not good.

Speaker 4 (06:25):
Oh man, God you and you are laid on your
TPS reports.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
I've noticed. I love me some office space. I like
that one.

Speaker 5 (06:33):
I'm not laid on his Panther Undie report. He got
that in today. I would put the Saints. I know
that they probably don't do that for anybody. I would guess,
but Saints to me is zero. Now you put it
at zero point one. I think that you're right. The
Bucks should be first, Panthers Falcons right there with each other.
I put the Saints at zero or whatever the lowest

(06:55):
possible number they do for the FBI is. That's what
I would do. Saints have no chance to win this division.
I don't even think the Saints even want to have
a chance to win.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
So were you with me on fifty twenty four twenty
four to two?

Speaker 5 (07:05):
Yeah, I mean yeah, but I'm saying i'd even go
while we're on the Saints, I pass, So.

Speaker 4 (07:08):
You go fifty twenty five twenty five zero? Yeah, A
Saints have no chance in this vision. I'm zero, all right.
So I want to see what people.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
I'll be kind. I'll give them one percent. I'll be kind.

Speaker 5 (07:19):
I'm in a good mood. I'm a different Bone this week,
I'll give them a one percent chance.

Speaker 4 (07:24):
Yeah, I couldn't believe that they were three percent behind
us chance to win the division. I just I've worn
that Drew before, that close to the Saints this year. Man,
something bad has happened and this rebuild is not going
in the direction that it needs to be going in.

Speaker 5 (07:38):
Is Drew Brees part of the FPI team? Like, what's
going on here?

Speaker 2 (07:41):
All right?

Speaker 4 (07:41):
So let's read some of these texts we're dealing. Let's
deal with this. The FBI breaks down percentage chances to
win the division, all right, and percentage chances to go
to the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
Let's just deal with the NFC South. They have.

Speaker 4 (07:55):
They have the Bucks at forty eight percent to win
the division, Falcons at twenty six and change, Panthers at
fourteen and change, and the Saints at like eleven. What
would be your percentages? I said, essentially fifty twenty four
to twenty four to two, and Bone and I both
agree Falcons and Panthers should be basically the same in odds.

(08:18):
Let's read what some of the Texters are saying here.
Let's see here, I gotta get past all the office
space reviews that are coming in sounds high to me
on the Panthers. This team is bad. Cooper Flogg says,
sounds about right. Let's see tar Heel Swaft says, I
agree with Bone. Panthers and Falcons should be dead even

(08:40):
I bet anything. The Saints percentage is too high. This
Texter says, how can you guys document all the bad
stuff that's happened to us in the last week, all
the injuries, all the uncertainty, that steeling trade, and still
think we should have a twenty five percent chance to
win the division?

Speaker 6 (09:01):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (09:01):
What do you say to that? Bone? O?

Speaker 5 (09:03):
Well, I was gonna fallow over with something similar. QS
fan also says the Falcons are better everywhere than the Panthers,
so I'm gonna tie that all together.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
Not better at quarterback, They're not better at quarterback? And
are they Are they better at head coach? At running?

Speaker 5 (09:15):
I don't think their oh linees better's not better. I
wouldn't say their head coaches better, and their quarterback's not better.
So there's three areas right there. The Panthers, I think
are better. I'll say this about the Falcons defense too.
The Falcons, listen, they added a bunch of guys in
the draft on defense that I like. I'm not even
gonna I'm not even gonna lie about it. They added Walker,
who I wanted, now Pierce. They headed two.

Speaker 4 (09:38):
Safeties that I talked about incessantly in the draft process
in Watson, Billy Bowman, Junr. So I can't sit here
in front man like I like their draft. But those
guys are all young. The Panthers defense, and by the way,
the Falcons defense sucked last year too. All right, didn't
sucked our levels, but they were bad too. They added
rookies might take time for the rookies right, rookies might

(10:00):
not fix the pass rush and the safety position next
debates right away. Whereas for the Panthers, they added more
veteran players, right veteran players up front especially, and merrig
on the back end. So to me, I think like
the Panthers defense to me might immediately improve more than
the Falcons, because the Falcons went more youth to improve

(10:21):
their defense.

Speaker 5 (10:23):
And I could also say in name, he's a bigger name.
But as the year goes along, are we so sure
that Kyle Pitts is better long term than JT. Sanders
will be? Kyle Pitts has not lived up to the hype,
and they've been trying to possibly theyet rid of Kyle
Pitts right now, Yeah, I probably go Pitts, but during
the year, not shocked if the Panthers are better at

(10:45):
tight End.

Speaker 4 (10:45):
They don't even love Kyle Pitts down there. No, he's
been a disappointment. No, I will say that he's been
a disappointment because he was supposed to be a freakazoid
that redefines the position, right, that's what we expected of him. Instead,
he's been kind of just all right, you know, to
your point, they have better webs to us. I'm not
going to act like they don't like I'm not going
to act like I would trade Sanders right now for Pitts.
I'm not gonna say that. I mean understand your point, Like,

(11:07):
can J. T. Sanders produce like Pits has been? Yeah, right, yeah,
I think he can. But I think their weapons are
better when you throw Robinson, London and Pitts. We have
young weapons bone, you know what I mean, our past
catching weapons, a lot of them are young, whereas they've
got some more established guys in the weaponry.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
I'm going to give them that.

Speaker 4 (11:27):
But again, I agree with you that there are areas
that we are better at. I take Bryce over Pennix
right now. I think he's further along in his development.
Not that I'm hating on Pennix, So I just I
think the Panthers have a great chance to finish ahead
of the Falcons. So honestly, the fact that I'm agreeing
with Bone and I'm putting the odds even between to win.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
The division beween the Panthers and the Falcons.

Speaker 4 (11:47):
I might even be short changing us, yeah, because I
think we have a great chance to finish out of
the Falcons.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
Personally.

Speaker 5 (11:53):
Mc gary also went down and right tackle out for
the season. That's a problem for them and they're going
to have to adjust that. And the Panthers get them
week number three while they're trying to figure that out.
So I don't know, I just I'm not trying to
disrespect Atlanta. I think they're going to be all right,
But to think that the Falcons are head and shoulders
above the rest, the Falcons are much much closer to

(12:15):
the Panthers than they are the Buccaneers for sure right now.

Speaker 4 (12:20):
Josh Josh from Fort Mill Falcons defense sucked last year
and still made us look stupid. Jesse Bates beat us
by himself. That was two years ago. Jesse first game too, arm,
How did Josh were you cryogenically frozen last season?

Speaker 2 (12:33):
My man?

Speaker 4 (12:34):
What happened in the last game of the season in
Atlanta where Atlanta still had a playoff hope? Bryce Young
had five toddies against them. So I'm Josh, I don't
know what you're smoking. This could be literally the highest
damn text we have ever gotten to the show. Like
Cheech could text us right now and it would make
more sense than that garbage. Yeah, man, Seriously, bro, Bryce
hung forty four on that defense skillet. My god, I

(12:57):
had the dumbest damn text I ever read. Seriously, if
you go, there's plenty of full skillet. There are plenty
of things you can bash the Panthers about, right, There's
plenty of things you can bash Bryce about. But dude,
went back to Bryce's first game. When Bryce's last game
was forty four points and five total touchdowns for himself.

Speaker 2 (13:17):
What the hell is this guy doing? Hit about?

Speaker 5 (13:19):
You got hit with a skill it, man, this is
this is this is a fat timing. May no, no,
I need you back here again. Mac double O seven
Saints fan as wait to know. Oh no, y'all, y'all
are laughing now, But I bet the Saints finish higher
than the fuggy ass Panthers.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
All right, Oh, bring it on, baby, we're betting. What's
he want to bet?

Speaker 4 (13:41):
How about this? He's gotta wear your thong. He's gotta
wear your used thong. Is that weird?

Speaker 7 (13:46):
That's actually a really good bet.

Speaker 5 (13:48):
If the Saints finish higher than the Panthers. I will
go outside here after the season and sit in a
big old tuba gumbo. I will basically tell you how
you get a big tub of will take a gumbo
bath outside here.

Speaker 2 (14:01):
How about this we wear because that's you.

Speaker 4 (14:04):
You're gonna buy seventy eight canisters a gumbo put it
in a baby pool?

Speaker 6 (14:07):
Is that.

Speaker 2 (14:10):
You do that?

Speaker 4 (14:11):
I will wear Saint Stong. I will wear Saint Stong
for a week if they finished a gumbo pool. If
they finish it out, you're alone in the gumbo pool.
It's not gonna I'm not even wrong. It's not gonna happen.
But I will take a gumbo bath. But this dude
is double O seven, all right. This guy's got to
put on Fitti's panther thong though.

Speaker 2 (14:32):
All right, I don't know why I'm trying to get another.

Speaker 5 (14:34):
We got was so big into getting met in the field.
A lot of thong talk going on here. I just
want to take a bath at some gumbo and be peaceful.

Speaker 4 (14:40):
Oh my god, this dude, says Homer Mac is back.
Maybe I'm loving it. I'm I'm getting a little feisty.
It's almost game day, all right, it's almost game Okay,
I'm still a little worried, but it's it's damn almost
game day. People set that Fitty went after office space
and questioning Max.

Speaker 5 (14:58):
Use the word skill out here. We got a lot
going on, and how dare you fit? Kilt was a
great insult.

Speaker 7 (15:03):
I want to add that to the repertoire of what
I call flounder when he does something.

Speaker 5 (15:06):
I said, that guy just made me mad. Let me
get that next Skillett. We used to have a really,
really old lady at the waffle house where I grew up.
We'd go in there at night. We called her Grandma's
skillet back in the day. Never forget Grandma's skillet. That's
totally reminds me of when you say.

Speaker 2 (15:21):
That I bet you that one could cook. Shout out
to her, she was like ninety nine.

Speaker 5 (15:24):
In two thousand and two when we come back, Week
one was the most watched week of college football ever.
Is this proof Nil and the Portal are not ruining
college football? Sports Radio seven WFNZ.

Speaker 8 (15:49):
Here's my favorite cope that I saw again from message
ports Genius for Clemson. Clemson has the best college football
team in America period. You say, are you stupid or
just playing dumb? I'm neither. Clemson is the best college
team in America because other than the military academies, Clemson

(16:11):
is the only college football team. Yes, Dabo brought in
three players from the Portal three, but look at the
rosters of LSU, Ohio State, FSU, Oklahoma, etc. Their teams
are nothing but a team of all stars assembled from
the best players. For many teams by what for decades
would be a recruiting violation in tampering and most would
have received the death penalty for the violations. Am I

(16:32):
disappointed about losing? Hell yeah, but think about this. How
many the kids that are switching schools at random? The
Tennessee quarterback has at his third or fourth school, not
because they love the school. They love the money. You
can't blame the athlete. Most of them have never had
any money. But if the rules are fixed, we are
simply watching a minor league NFL.

Speaker 2 (16:49):
And these are the fact little Clemson.

Speaker 4 (16:53):
That is big Cat reading off the message board Genius
website which finds the funny message board posts from different
fan bases, and that was a Clemson fan. And that's coping,
all right, that's coping with an L to H to LSU.
Yet we're the best college team LSU and all these
other teams, these SEC teams boning to beat us in.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
Four straight games, they're all they're.

Speaker 4 (17:18):
All pro teams. Now that's the that's the rich Clemson fans.

Speaker 2 (17:24):
That's rich.

Speaker 5 (17:24):
That's the cope of the week. Although the thirty third
NFL team at did not also have a very good
week either Hey what are they?

Speaker 4 (17:31):
Are they coping on on on the message boards on
Inside Carolina or are they just losing their mind?

Speaker 5 (17:36):
Message Board Geniuses is a great follow on social media
because they just collect a lot of times it's the
SEC folks that are going nuts, but this time it
was Clemson. But a lot of times the SEC, A
lot of the sec U brain trust when they meet
on the message boards.

Speaker 2 (17:51):
You'll see it on that site.

Speaker 5 (17:52):
That's the that's the site that I saw where they
were trying to get Kaitlin de Bor to kiss his
secretary so they could get some model.

Speaker 2 (18:02):
Oh they do. That's gonna be a fun job.

Speaker 4 (18:04):
I would I wouldn't mind having a side gig at
messageboard genius. You have to you get to scour the
message forwards for the biggest Dodo birds on that Well,
we have text line geniuses. Oh this guy, Josh, I'm
now going round a round with Skillett aka Josh and
fort Mill. This guy's a negative Panther fan. Man, he's
hating on Bryce and stuff. It's like he forgot that

(18:27):
Bryce played so good in this game. But yet you're
telling Bryce is terrible. You stop watching.

Speaker 5 (18:32):
He's not watched this the Jesse Bates game and check
my notes twenty twenty three apparently.

Speaker 4 (18:37):
So all right, I want to talk a little college football.
We are going to try week two of the Panther
Roundtable Bony. We had I feel like we had mixed results.
I feel like eventually they got going. Last week with
Granny Pat DVR, Dave and Panther Stephen Whittaker this week.
I've had it suggested to me that we balance it

(18:57):
out this week and we try to get you know,
maybe Homers, but also someone that's not a Homer. So
we've got Panther Bow, pretty big homer. We've got d
v R. Dave because his laugh just cracks me up.

Speaker 5 (19:08):
He's like our studio audience laugh drop from the old
sitcoms pretty much.

Speaker 4 (19:13):
And then we have formal Timothy, who makes this guy
Josh from Fort Mill seem like, you know, a cheer
love Panther cheerleader. Formal Timothy I believe to be the
most negative Panther fan out there. So we're gonna put
this group of different people together and see if that
creates the ultimate Panther fan Week one roundtable.

Speaker 2 (19:33):
So that's coming up.

Speaker 5 (19:34):
What's your FBI confidence level, Mack and these guys pulling
this off today?

Speaker 2 (19:37):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (19:38):
I think I'm hoping for Timothy and Bow to just
yell at each other.

Speaker 5 (19:43):
That's my hope here, but we'll have to see and
Dave laughs in the background. I need to talk to
Dave about if he can get us in one of
his Civil War reenactments. That's my goal. It's the thing
he does, isn't it. I'm very intrigued to go fight
a battle with Dave. He's one of these cats. And
I'm not here to judge. I mean, what the what
do I do? I sit on the couch all day,

(20:03):
don't have a life. But anyway, like, he's one of
these cats that dresses up in the like Civil War
soldier attire, and like does the reenact like he's in
man he's Indeed, i'd say, fitty, women love soldiers, right.

Speaker 2 (20:18):
Love a man in uniform? All right? Do women love
a man in uniform at a Civil War reenactment? Though?

Speaker 4 (20:23):
That that's where I don't they might women might draw
the line there. All right, let's talk college football for
a few minutes, because, and we were touching on this
at the end of last hour, it was the highest
watched weekend of college football ever. If you saw one
of the one of the media sites pointing out, if
you go by total minutes of college football watched around

(20:44):
the country, this thing like blew away bone any previous
week in the history of college football on television. We
were running down they had four games over ten million viewers,
including the Texas Ohio State game. That average over sixteen
million viewers. These are huge numbers for regular season college
football games. Of course, you had all the other big

(21:06):
ones top ten million, the Miami Notre Dame game, the
Clemson LSU game, the Notre Dame Miami game, and then
we brought you some of the numbers over five million
for South Carolina, Virginia Tech and UNC and TCU.

Speaker 2 (21:17):
It was a huge weekend.

Speaker 4 (21:18):
And I just want to ask this question, Bone, does
this prove that the sport is thriving with fans right
now and that the NIL and transfer portal stuff is
not ruining the sport for fans?

Speaker 2 (21:31):
Is this proof of that or not? Yes?

Speaker 5 (21:34):
And we talk about it all off season, and we
spend so much time on NIL in the portal and
realignment a lot of times is a is a major
offseason topic. Rightfully sell on those things. But by the
time we get to late August early September, when the
uniforms are on the field, when the fight songs are playing,

(21:54):
when the colors of the teams you root for are
out there, everything feels so long go that we had
talked about all summer, and it becomes about the games again.
And when it's about the games. Again, college football, no
matter what's going on in the offseason, becomes rather teflon
And we talk about that a lot, do we not

(22:14):
on those Saturdays? And I know it's more than Saturdays
because it's Thursday. I know there's a lot of days,
but college football primarily is Saturday. And when we get
to those Saturdays, when game days on, we don't give
a damn really about all the other stuff anymore, do we?

Speaker 2 (22:28):
No care? But not to the level we do in
the off season. It can't ruin Saturday.

Speaker 4 (22:32):
Man, it cannot ruin the pageantry, the passion, the experience,
the history, all of this stuff, the excitement of the sport.
I think it's the best sport going right now. Like
I do again, I always say this, the Panthers are
my favorite team in all of sports to watch. I
think check backwards on that next Monday. But like in

(22:54):
terms of just a sport, phone to immerse myself in,
and I want to watch this game and that game
is just it's college football for me, even more so
than the NFL. And I actually believe, and I own
the transfer portal, I believe have helped the game from
a parody standpoint, I honestly believe it has. I think

(23:15):
you look at the SEC, they haven't been to a
title game in the last two seasons. I think you're
looking at the talent being spread around where we've talked
about it a lot those SEC teams used to hoard
that D line depth, and now a lot of people
have pointed out by the way, those guys aren't sticking
around to be depth guys. They're transferrent, they're getting paid,
and they're starting somewhere else. So I just think you're

(23:35):
seeing a balance of power that we didn't have for
a while there in the four team playoff era. I
think the twelve team playoff era, which could becoming a
sixteen team playoff era, BONE and the strength of schedule
change the way the strength of schedule bone the committee
wants to make it a point not to penalize you
for losing games against other good teams. I think that
those things are going to encourage more and more teams

(23:57):
to play non conference early season games like we just saw.
I think the sport is in a great place when
it comes to the Saturday experience. Do I think the
tampering stuff bone is ridiculous? Do I think they need
to find a way to regulate all that wild West
stuff a bit better. Yes, but I just push back
on the notion that, like the sport, college football is

(24:21):
being ruined. If it was being ruined, how do they
do numbers like that?

Speaker 6 (24:24):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (24:24):
I think two things continue to grow that surround the
sport as well. That's gambling. The presence of gambling will
always give us intrigue on the sport. Even the games
that we may not have rooting interest in, we may
have money on that game. So as gambling becomes more
accepted and it grows, I think college football benefits from that.
And I also think, Maggie, think about the last thirty

(24:46):
years how much the NFL draft has grown.

Speaker 2 (24:49):
So if you have a pro team a lot.

Speaker 5 (24:51):
Of time just spending your saturdays now watching quarterbacks, watching players,
think about how much draft coverage there is now too,
and how much of these quarterbacks we want to see.
We go through the transfer portal over the summer, and
this quarterback went here, this quarterback went here. Becomes a
lot of quarterback movement. Now we get to the season,
even if you're not rooting for a team, you kind
of want to see all these quarterbacks you've heard so

(25:12):
much about Cam Warrick.

Speaker 2 (25:13):
Yes, kind of came out of nowhere.

Speaker 5 (25:15):
Francisco Mendoza was a cow now was in Indiana. Kind
of intrigued by him. Harsh back. You hear about all
these quarterback names and you kind of want to see
them no matter what team they're playing.

Speaker 4 (25:24):
Now, the quarterback free agency has become a sexy part
of the game, you know, I think it has been
so Again, I don't think any of this stuff is
really I think when people stomp their feet right, they're
rooting the game, and there's the purity of the game.
But more minutes. That was the stat I saw bone

(25:46):
more minutes were spent watching by Americans of college football
this weekend than any weekend in the history.

Speaker 2 (25:52):
Of the sports.

Speaker 4 (25:53):
So I just don't as long as we get these
juicy matchups, I think the playoff of twelve teams, and
even if they go to sixteen, it expands the amount
of regular season games that have meaning as the season
goes on, whether you're playing for seating or whether you're
playing for an at large spot. I just think it
brings more fans to the party in November. They're going
to have a passion invested interest in the playoff. I

(26:15):
just think if they can just get a little bit
tighter grip bone on the ridiculous tampering side of things,
just rain it in a little bit. But I don't
think it is really causing y'all to not watch college football,
except for Joe and Huntersville. John Huntersville says he watched
one half of football and spent his holiday weekend outside.

Speaker 3 (26:36):
Bone.

Speaker 5 (26:37):
I'm so sorry. I'm sorry he went where outside? You
know what that is? This guy went outside on that weekend.

Speaker 7 (26:49):
I'm like a vampire during the college football season.

Speaker 5 (26:51):
Man, I don't you want to see the sun by now? Fiddy,
you're like this. I now just leave my my front
door open so the door dasheds can just bring me
the food on the couch. Just come on in, don't
even I don't need to get up and get the
bag at the door. Just walk in the front door,
find me on the couch, and hit me the bat.

Speaker 7 (27:08):
That's a good gesture because then the door dash driver
can also get a check a score of the game
or two.

Speaker 2 (27:12):
That he wants to keep it thought too.

Speaker 5 (27:14):
Oh my goodness, mine, you might need to go get
a life joke.

Speaker 2 (27:18):
He said he was out living his life, what life choices?
You were are you doing? Wrecking leaves?

Speaker 4 (27:23):
Like, oh my god, god, Joe, what are you doing?
Were you at the poll? Where you at the beach riah,
grilling with friends? Like what were you doing?

Speaker 2 (27:29):
What kind of horrible?

Speaker 6 (27:30):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (27:31):
But you know things were you doing besides watching football?

Speaker 2 (27:34):
Joe and hunters?

Speaker 6 (27:35):
Though?

Speaker 5 (27:35):
Where your friends get some help?

Speaker 2 (27:36):
All right?

Speaker 4 (27:37):
Somehowlp and get better? Let me read it text here.
Myron's got a great point, and I l and portal
has helped college football, but it's hurt basketball.

Speaker 2 (27:44):
I would I.

Speaker 4 (27:44):
Disagree with that. I would tend to agree with that personally.
I think it. I think it balances the power in
football basketball. I think it takes I think it is
going to hurt Cinderella in the NCAA tournament.

Speaker 2 (27:58):
Basketball.

Speaker 4 (27:59):
I think I don't think you're gonna see these mid
majors that stay together fitty and have five seniors, because
I think the best senior players in a mid majors
are gonna be playing at a major you know. Yeah,
But I think college football, I think it's spread the
talent out. I really believe that.

Speaker 7 (28:14):
Yeah, I mean I think we got to see more
tournament games. In the Nile Ara to see if if
Cinderella is dead. Years ago we had you know, a
five and a nine seed playing for a national championship.

Speaker 2 (28:26):
So I don't want to go that far.

Speaker 5 (28:27):
But I do think there we're not worried about three
years ago. We're worried about right now.

Speaker 7 (28:30):
I do think there's more parody in college hoops, Like
I do think that maybe it's hurt the little guy,
but there is more parody where. I don't think it's
just gonna be the Dukes, the Kansas, the Carolinas, the
Kentucky's going to the final four year if here, but
we have to wait and see. There's no doubt, Mac,
it's made college football better.

Speaker 2 (28:47):
Like, you can't argue that in my room.

Speaker 5 (28:48):
If you if college basketball is so down, why do
you send somebody text about Feast week.

Speaker 4 (28:55):
You can think it's down, but it's still your favorite sport, right,
you get right?

Speaker 2 (28:59):
It's not mine, can't you?

Speaker 4 (29:01):
I'm saying myrons Like you can say it's my favorite sport,
but it's it's down.

Speaker 5 (29:06):
You could say that different. It's definitely different, definitely much
different than you use. But if you don't think college
basketball is down, you're blind. Oh no, I mean serious.
Come on, y'all. You know I'm agreeing with you. Okay,
all right, I'm talking about I'm going to break. I
was just saying, yeah, it's moving on here when we
come back the Panther Round Table three people that are
two people that have not been on it before and

(29:26):
DVR Dave as well on Sports Radio ninety two seven WFZ.

Speaker 4 (29:44):
Sports Radio ninety two seven wfn So you get great
text about college athletics, how much you're into it, football
and basketball.

Speaker 2 (29:52):
The portals affected.

Speaker 4 (29:53):
It probably made a great point about you know, being
a Western fan and when you're an FCS fan, now
Bone you get any good player you have gets plucked
right to take money and transfer to a FBS school.
So I think, yeah, there's a greater discussion there that
we will have moving forward about the different levels. Some
group of five fans, even like app fans or Coastal
fans have Charlotte fans have said it's tougher for them,

(30:17):
you know, because of the turnover save. Anyway, it's something
we could talk about moving forward, but right now, Panther
Fan Round Table two point zero, bone Man, we have
tried to bring all kinds of Panther fans. We have
brought in a man from the Homer party. All right,
he is Panther Bow. This is an optimistic, positive ray

(30:39):
of sunshine Carolina, Panther fan.

Speaker 2 (30:42):
Panther Bow. What's going on, my man? That's Dr Dave Potter.
Hold on, hold on, where's Panther bow at? He's on
the hotline. Okay, Panther Bow?

Speaker 4 (30:53):
What up?

Speaker 2 (30:53):
Baby?

Speaker 3 (30:54):
Hey, good morning, guys man, what an honor this is? Uh,
you know, we finally made it the NF off season
and uh, you know, couldn't ask for a better show
to uh you.

Speaker 4 (31:03):
Know, come on to all right, Well you haven't talked
to formal Timothy yet. It might not be an honor
you just stayed. Hold that comment for a minute. All
right now, let.

Speaker 2 (31:11):
Me bring in DVR Dave.

Speaker 4 (31:13):
DVR Dave comes from uh he represents what part of
the Panther fan base, bone man, the Civil War reenactment
portion of the fan. We have some questions today, DVR Dave,
what's up baby?

Speaker 6 (31:24):
Hey guys, sorry, he's.

Speaker 2 (31:30):
The happy portion of the Panther fan base.

Speaker 6 (31:32):
Dave.

Speaker 2 (31:33):
Really, all you gotta do is just laugh and we're happy.
Just laugh.

Speaker 4 (31:36):
DVR Gave are you wearing your Civil War soldier outfit.

Speaker 6 (31:40):
No, I do Medievil reenactment, not Civil War. I was
about to say, if you guys are going to be
a tilted kill Sunday, I'll bring my stuff down. I'll
let you see it.

Speaker 2 (31:51):
Oh, there you go, there you go.

Speaker 4 (31:53):
All right, as we screwed up that whole you know,
mentioning of Dave's hobby, let's bring you should do civil
war reenactment. We've had Panther fans point we had fans
point out after the first roundtable that you had too
many Homers on the air at the same time. So
we brought in one man to fix that bony. All right,
this is like, this is like when Fox News actually

(32:13):
puts a Democrat on the air and argue with him.
This is this is formal Timothy, formal Timothy.

Speaker 2 (32:19):
What's going on? Baby?

Speaker 9 (32:21):
I am well, boys, you found a real way to
insult me there, Mack.

Speaker 10 (32:24):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (32:25):
No, you are here to bounce it out, my friend.

Speaker 8 (32:27):
All right.

Speaker 4 (32:27):
Usually you and I go back and forth and disagree,
but you are an asset to this operation, all right,
So let's get into it. Boys, Let's start it off,
and I will start with Panther bo Panther bow. How
many wins do you see for the Panthers this season?

Speaker 3 (32:42):
I have a fourteen wins.

Speaker 2 (32:45):
I'm sorry you said you said fourteen wins light work.

Speaker 11 (32:50):
Yeah, yeah, fourteen wins.

Speaker 10 (32:52):
I love you guys.

Speaker 3 (32:52):
Can hear me? Well and go back through the schedule
and I got a seven and zero. We run into
a little bit of stuff, but yeah, fourteen fortunate.

Speaker 2 (33:01):
Timothy.

Speaker 4 (33:02):
I would guess you are putting you on the high
end of things. Word high when I said, Homer, I
think I even undersold it. I got to be honest
with you formal, Timothy, I would guess your numbers a
little lower than that.

Speaker 9 (33:14):
Yeah, just just slightly, i'd say. So you're right, i'd say,
looking at it from my perspective, I'm thinking somewhere same
as last year, between five and seven.

Speaker 2 (33:21):
Wins, between five and seven.

Speaker 5 (33:23):
What are the things that quite a gap has developed here?
You guys, He's more than double Tim's prediction? What Tim what?

Speaker 4 (33:31):
What are you the most What are you the most
concerned about? What are you the most negative about? With
this team?

Speaker 2 (33:37):
Well?

Speaker 9 (33:38):
I think it's just basically the way that they've always
gotten off the slow starts, I mean this, this team
historically has been that way. Plus you're you're coming off
the worst defensive performance of any team in the NFL.
You've got a bunch of new guys. It's going to
take them a little bit of time to get a
little bit of cohesion back together. And then uh, you
know Bryce, he came about in the in the second

(33:58):
half of that season last year. But still he's got
some young weapons that haven't proven themselves out there. We've
lost his you know, number one safety blanket to to
the Vikings now the most sure handed guy on the
on the team for sure. And then you know, the
guy taking his place in Hunter Infro right now, we
still don't know if he's going to be football ready
at least to it last to last, you know, through

(34:18):
an entire season, let alone a game to start off
down in Jacksonville, where the temperatures are going to be hot.

Speaker 11 (34:23):
You know the goes.

Speaker 9 (34:24):
Those guys are gonna be in and out and h
you know a lot of the a lot of the backups,
you know, are they they're gonna have to prove themselves
too just to get out there and put themselves in
the heat.

Speaker 4 (34:33):
Like man, Tim has too many good negative points. Bone,
it's getting depressive. Who's whose idea was it? Gonvite him
on here?

Speaker 2 (34:40):
Man, he's making negative points but good points him? Was
your guy d v R Dave? You got d v
R Dave? Who do you side with? Guy? Who do
you side with on this one? Brother?

Speaker 3 (34:49):
Mac?

Speaker 11 (34:49):
Listen, Uh, I understand where where your negative guy is
coming from here, But here's the reality. I guarantee you.
They have that conversation with Bryce before they left Feel
and Go. They said, look, you got a bunch of
new guys, and I guarantee you. Bryce said, now we're good.
I got guys that I trust. And then they brought

(35:10):
Hunter back. And Hunter already knows everything that's going on.
If he wasn't in football shape, you wouldn't if you
would be on the injury report, right right.

Speaker 2 (35:20):
Right?

Speaker 5 (35:20):
He just agreed with himself there. Panther Bo, Panther Bow,
you are a Tim fan club forming on the time
people like Tim. Yeah, this is not what we want
to get.

Speaker 4 (35:29):
Yeah, there are a lot of fans out there that
probably yeah, would would think Tim is their hero. Panther Bow,
you are a man that is so happy that when
you send your text and make your calls to the station.
We're not sure you're ever sober? All right, that's how
happy you are. So I need to ask you, is
Tim's attitude bothering you?

Speaker 3 (35:47):
Listen, we're all used to you know, yours and the
fan base, and you know, if you can't start off
the season just being a little bit positive, and I
don't even know why you want to even be a fan.
I mean, we're not the We're not the Carolina We're
the Panthers. And listen to go through history and say,
historically we start off slow. Bro, this is a whole
other team right here. Look at all the addition. Do

(36:09):
you think these guys are going to be tied to
the history of the Panthers. Hey, sorry, Rico Donald, I
know we just gotted it from the Cowboys, But historically
we start all pretty slow.

Speaker 5 (36:18):
So get out of here with that, tam your rebuttal
the boat.

Speaker 9 (36:24):
You know what, you know, it is a different season,
but it's the same thing from year end to year out. Man,
it may be different years now. Twenty fifteen was different,
two thousand and three was different. Yes, they got off
the faster starts, but for the most part, this is
the second half of the season team, they usually turn
it around, and by the time that they do usually
we're out of the conversation anyway. So I mean, all

(36:47):
I'm saying is that, yeah, I could be an e
or and if you want me to really be an
e or. After that first preseason game, I felt we
were gonna got even win two to three games this season.
Five actually being a little bit optimistic for me.

Speaker 5 (36:57):
We talked about preseason, we talked about practice game teams.

Speaker 4 (37:00):
Man like, why do you a guy that logical? Why
do you care about preseason?

Speaker 2 (37:05):
You're giving.

Speaker 9 (37:08):
I sat, I sat back and watched a starting offense
has really only ran four total series this entire preseason,
only put up seven points, and that was against the
Cleveland backups.

Speaker 2 (37:20):
I listen, I don't like it either.

Speaker 11 (37:22):
Four games in the preseason and lost all sixteen regular
season games. Who cares about the preseason?

Speaker 9 (37:29):
Bringing up apparently apparently Steve Smith that cares about the preseason,
because he pointed that out to a niche on the
on the air, on the on the on the broadcast.

Speaker 11 (37:38):
Steve job, Steve Smith's job is to create controversy, not
talk up the home team.

Speaker 9 (37:43):
He's also he's also there to tell you the truth,
and the truth is negative.

Speaker 10 (37:46):
Sometimes you're still gonna take. He's not there to tell
you the truth.

Speaker 11 (37:49):
He's there to give you his opinion, which is to
create controversy, which is working very well for him.

Speaker 10 (37:54):
By the way, Why why would he want to.

Speaker 9 (37:56):
Why would he want to create controversy on the on
the home teams broadcast?

Speaker 10 (38:00):
He does want to do that.

Speaker 9 (38:01):
He might want to create it in the locker room
new people lamped up. No, he does that for the
NFL network.

Speaker 10 (38:08):
He does that for the NFL networks. He's not gonna right.

Speaker 9 (38:11):
No, He's a passionate panther that wants to tell you
the truth about the team. And if he sees that
preseason isn't going the right way, he's going to let
you know, all right.

Speaker 2 (38:19):
I just think it's preseason. It's two series.

Speaker 4 (38:21):
They didn't have a game plan like they would game
plan for opponents in the regular season.

Speaker 5 (38:25):
Panther bow, What is shape bood? You get a beer
during this whole thing?

Speaker 2 (38:28):
Panther bow?

Speaker 4 (38:29):
What are your What is what is tim missing? What
is what are what are the positive things? Because I
don't think he's talking enough about Bryce becoming who we
thought he was last year. I don't think he's talking
enough about Canalis and the effect he had on Bryce
and the offense, or or Dan Morgan and the and
the state. I think it's a more stable front office.
What do you think that Timothy is missing with his negativity.

Speaker 3 (38:52):
Well, if the formal Timothy is living in the past, man,
you're talking about two thousand and way back there, you're
living in the past. You gotta look at how we
ended that season. And I get it, you don't. There's
no correlation they say between the end of one season
beginning of another. But I saw Bryce swinging that bill around.
I saw him put it on dot after stop on

(39:13):
a string. Not every quarterback in the NFL can stare
down pressure coming down the gut and throw it and
swing it around like such a take a kick.

Speaker 4 (39:22):
Ah.

Speaker 3 (39:22):
I mean, so, let's get the ball in four s.
Feed at some of these guys. And I'm telling you
right now, I ain't worried about the Jaguars, and I'm
not worried about any of these other teams. We're going, man, we'
we're already set move out of the past and let's
move forward.

Speaker 5 (39:38):
It was inspirational that brought it to here. To my
eye that someone just called you macky Povich.

Speaker 4 (39:42):
Today we go and do a dang Are we gonna
do a DNA test?

Speaker 9 (39:46):
And is there.

Speaker 2 (39:48):
Who is sir?

Speaker 4 (39:49):
We're gonna do a DNA test? Which three of these
is sir pers father? Is what we're actually we're gonna.
We're gonna get ready to figure out here, Timothy, A
lot of Texters like you that is this.

Speaker 5 (39:59):
So that's back fired on me, tim I want to
I want to show him to hate you.

Speaker 2 (40:03):
I didn't have an I'm.

Speaker 10 (40:04):
Gonna say first, I'm gonna say you brought me on.

Speaker 9 (40:07):
You brought me on Tanton Boone, that Chris Berman.

Speaker 4 (40:09):
Right, you know, like we were waiting for a rumbling,
bubbling and stumbling.

Speaker 9 (40:16):
And then I guess Dave is DVR in this conversation
to go back and watch you later.

Speaker 2 (40:21):
Dave is actually Dave is texting. Dave's testing about you.

Speaker 5 (40:25):
If you want me to wear Dave is testing about
you guys while he's on the air.

Speaker 2 (40:29):
Is he okay? All right?

Speaker 4 (40:31):
I'm glad in your days laugh because Dave got serious.
Do you think of Dave as just like a happy,
go lucky, jolly laughing guy got he got a little
you guys, how about a jousting competition at medieval times
for the two of you together to settle this?

Speaker 2 (40:47):
All right, all.

Speaker 4 (40:48):
Right, fellas, that was good work. It got lively, fellas.
All right, that was very good job by all of you.
Timothy h We'll set you up with your fan club
members here.

Speaker 6 (41:00):
All right.

Speaker 4 (41:00):
It's very disturbing, very disturbing trend. Panther Bow, DVR Dad,
keep fighting a good pro panther fight, Fellas. All right,
we appreciate y'all. All right, Panther Bow. You might be
too much of a homer though. Sorry, got a little
testy there for a while.

Speaker 3 (41:13):
I like that.

Speaker 2 (41:13):
That got feisty. Man.

Speaker 5 (41:15):
Do you know who's getting ripped repeatedly, Matt during this segment?
Weather Man Mark Because they think DVR Dave is Weatherman Mark.
They're getting it, They're getting they confused some multiple times.
I'm seeing weather Man Mark Tex come in. That wasn't
weather Man. We tried to get marked in and he
couldn't do it. He's got a doctor's appointment today, so
he couldn't do it. He literally tried to say, can
you reschedule for Friday? He tried like programmed the show like,

(41:36):
now we'll have to get you turbines. Is that what
he's doing? He's got turbine duty there is I still
would like, did you go to a medieval event with DVR?

Speaker 2 (41:44):
Dave? I need to see this at burst.

Speaker 4 (41:46):
Shaggy says. Tim does not listen to Smitty very much.
Smitty prides himself on saying what he believes, even if
it's on a team broadcast, Right, He's not gonna be
a lot of the guys that do those team broadcast
bone are clearly going to be Homer's. He's not gonna
gonna be like that. This text says formal Timothy has

(42:06):
a better radio voice than.

Speaker 2 (42:08):
Mack and bow. He someone thought he was a national pundit.
He didn't have.

Speaker 4 (42:13):
He did have something going on there with those pipes,
and I would say, based on the text, he might
be more popular though somehow, bo it's possible, good man,
how's that happen?

Speaker 5 (42:22):
When we come back, it's time for a tradition on
like any other victory formula for the Panthers to beat

I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
