Speaker 1 (00:14):
Sports Radio ninety two seven WFNZ. Will he be here
with you?
Speaker 2 (00:18):
I hope you're enjoying yourself on this thirtieth day of December,
Willie and Fiddy in for Mack and Bone. By the way,
Bebop wanted me to tell you he still hates Bryce.
I know that that shocks you.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Fitty.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
It's a day that ends in why I don't hate Bryce.
As a matter of fact, I love Bryce. We knew that,
and I want I want him to I want him
to win and be the guy.
Speaker 4 (00:48):
Willie.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
That's that's There's two things I want in sports. Hubert
Davis to coach the tar Heels for the next fifteen years.
Brian Stowing can be my quarterback for the next ten
to fifteen years.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
We forget that. I think you had Hubert fired at
some point during his first year.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
Correct.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
He was fifteen and five when I fired him after
back to back blowout losses to Wake Forest in Miami.
That's a shirked Bartalian type move there for you.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
I've come a long way.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
I've grown not taller, maybe wider, but I've grown since then.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
I wasn't gonna say it, you know, I'd never make
fun of your weight, no hairline maybe, but not the weight.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
Well, the hairline, I mean, it has to be made
fun of because there's nothing. There's nothing there. I tried
to buy Advisor the other day and I realized that's
not a good look for you. When you don't have
hair on top of your head, doesn't work. You can't
wear a visors anymore. And this is the problem with
my best friend. Flounder thought I looked fine. He's like, yeah,
(01:55):
you look good.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
That's a bad friend.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
And then I looked in the mirror and I'm like,
I look like a jacket.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
Well, how does that? I'm sorry, I'm sorry, so I
know that different today though, I'm I'm liking my fit today.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
You got the dad hat going, you got the you
got the quarter zip? Is that a quarter zip?
Speaker 4 (02:17):
Yeah? NU bought it for myself for Christmas.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Night's an. It's a nice quarter zip a.
Speaker 4 (02:20):
New polo on underneath it.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
I got it.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
I got a new Christmas polo from FC that I
have on from my wife, who, by the way, just
completely knocked it out of the park yesterday. She bought
me again, this might be a little bit before your time.
You didn't get a ch just to enjoy him on
w f a N as much as I did, but
Steve Summers, who was the overnight host w FN for
(02:44):
the longest time. Again, I make noble ones about the
fact that I'm from there, you know, arguing about it
with the wall. It happens, but I don't bring it
up a lot. But you can trace a lot of
the advent of this medium to w f a N,
the twenty four hour sports radio station, and Steve Summers
is who I went to bed with almost every night.
(03:06):
Excuse me listening to the radio. Come on, be respectful.
And as a result that was kind of the well
it got me the radio bug. And he just wrote
a book and she got be an autograph copy, which
(03:27):
is pretty cool.
Speaker 4 (03:28):
That's that's that's awesome, That's very good.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
What what what is the matter with you? You are such
an immature person? Well, because you say what you say
then you pause, like if you're gonna make that comment,
it's just got to be fluid.
Speaker 4 (03:43):
Not I went to bed every night with him.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
Pause because now it sounds awkward. Hey, you went to
bed with John Summers. I went to bet with Scott Forrell,
Steve or Steve Summers. I went to bed with Scott Farrell.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Litle bit of a different a little bit of a
different auditory feel there. Speaking of auditory feel, it's time
for Sounds of the Dave Dave Canalis. This is Dave
talking about what he would change, if anything, from the
game plan going in with some hindsight. Being twenty twenty,
you don't live with regrets.
Speaker 5 (04:19):
These are the plays we practice, These are the things
we ask our guys to execute on. We have full
faith in the group to do it. Are they things
we evaluated that we talked about this morning. Absolutely, there's
things always to improve after every game, but you go
out there and you play your best game and you
try to throw out the things that you can execute
really well, the plays that you can play fast with
on offense, defense and special teams. And I truly believe
(04:40):
that's what we went into with. And it also gives
me an opportunity to give the Seahawks credit. This is
a really good team and they limit us in some
different ways based on how they played and the plays
that they made.
Speaker 4 (04:51):
So it was a great opponent.
Speaker 5 (04:53):
We played them well for three quarters and it got
away from us at the end because we weren't able
to stay out there and get more points. But I'm
proud of the group. I'm proud of all hard we played.
We got to bounce back. Then we got to make
sure that we take the bucks this week and just
continue to move our football forward. Still continue to look
for that game, looking for our guys to play complete
football all together, not a perfect game, but where all
groups are firing on all cylinders. And that doesn't mean
(05:15):
that every play works, but there's something about it. When
guys are executing well, playing off of each other, playing together,
a team becomes really hard to beat. And that's what
we're looking for this week, is to just put our
best football out there.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
It's Dave Canalis basically saying he lives by the credo
no regrets. He spelt regrets right, unlike the guy in
that one movie. But at the same point in time,
I don't know how you say that coming off of
what you said yesterday by saying Seattle brought us a
look that we didn't expect when it came to the
man coverage. The fact that they did not have a
(05:52):
they did not have a counter punch for Seattle's initial punch,
to me, is a part of it that's most discouraging
is the fact that it seemed like they were hard
headed in that in that fashion, it.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
Just makes you wonder, what's the what's the operation going
on during game?
Speaker 1 (06:06):
Like what?
Speaker 3 (06:07):
Like I genuinely want to know and I don't And
I don't want to be like sarcastic or be a
wise ass. What does brad Inzack do? Because he's not
calling plays?
Speaker 2 (06:18):
No, but he's I also don't know why as a
coordinator if you're not calling plays, like what, like why
are we why are we hearing from him every week?
Speaker 1 (06:27):
Like I know you have to hear from the coordinators
every week.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
But but like like you said, what, what is what
is his role actually?
Speaker 4 (06:34):
Because if his role.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
Is to help adjust on the fly, adjust throughout the
game and and go to some secondary play calls, gamescripts, whatever. Okay,
I'm that Brett iszick is I think even more valuable
than what he is right now with install during the week.
But I do feel like Dave kanal Is struggles go
when when when his initial plan is taken away, he
(07:00):
doesn't have it's it's like a pitcher. It was just
he's a fastball or nothing guy. When when he doesn't
have his fastball. He doesn't have a secondary pitch, and
that's and that's what I think has bogged down this offense.
Whenever he's been able to identify going into these games
where the offense has been really, really good Atlanta, La,
(07:22):
maybe Miami, it's because he was able and the Miami
gave mead down seventy nothing, and he's still able to
attack the way he wanted to attack. But when they've
been taken away New Orleans, San Francisco, Seattle, there's just
no CounterPunch. And that's you can't have that at this level.
Like even even the Browns usually have a different way
(07:42):
to attack you when their initial game plan maybe is
taken away.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
So I mentioned before the break that there was a
particular quote that made Panther fans pretty peeved and steamed
over the course of yesterday. I first saw it from
Joe person. That's that's what kind of made it here.
Let's hear the context of how it sounded. This is
(08:07):
vis a vis the offensive line being maybe an issue
of why Bryce did not look as good as he
might have had the opportunity to yesterday.
Speaker 5 (08:16):
I thought the group generally did a good job. The
Seahawks certainly got some wins. They had some nice stunts
where they came free some one on one wins. I
felt like consistently though there wasn't enough time to operate.
And Bryce felt that too. He was going through his progressions.
There were times he had to move and get out
of the pocket. That's life in the big leagues, that's
the NFL. I didn't see the offensive line as being
(08:39):
a real limiting factor to what we could do yesterday.
I think just collectively, you know, we didn't take advantage
of some opportunities in the run game and also in
the past game. But I have confidence in this group,
and I'm proud of Vicky, you know, to be able
to get himself back off of a nie s brain
to get back out there for his teammates. Really proud
of the way he played. He wasn't perfect, but take
(09:00):
Ikey with the version of Ikey that we got because
of just the heart and soul of the guy, how
much he cares about his teammates.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
So there's a lot, there's a lot there. That was
the fitty scoff is what that was.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
The sound effect though not me actually scoffing that.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
That was the comment yesterday and again Joe, he extrapolated
the part of it in the middle there where he
says that's life in the big leagues. I didn't see
the offensive line as a limiting factor of what we
could do Yesterday. I probably said something a little bit
borderline disrespectful and a quote sweet.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
I took it down because again I didn't give Dave.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
I gave Dave benefit of the doubt afterwards, saying that
maybe he's being intentionally obtuse and it maybe plays better
to say, hey, you know, put it on Bryce because
we don't want to give away. Hey, by the way,
this guy struggles under pressure and struggles under guys in
his face. But if we all watched the same football game,
(09:59):
you I knew that the Seattle Seahawks could take presidents
in the backfield of the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. There
was not time for him to throw it all. I
think the next gen stat had it at two point
two to three seconds of pressure, which was I think
highest in the league last week. So pardon me if
I'm looking at this and saying, yeah, he maybe had
(10:20):
some tough slotting against him and it's up for him
to overcome that. Yes, absolutely it's up for the coaching
staff to skive it better for him to overcome. And also,
by the way, it just goes back to something I
brought up earlier.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
Why is Rico.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
Daddell only touching the football fifteen times in a game
like that yesterday? When you have a man coverage, they
are begging you to run the football. And I know
that they couldn't run it a lot because of the
way the run fits just weren't working. But why couldn't
they run the football as well as they had previously?
It just seemed like Seattle took away everything that Carolina
wanted to do. And a lot of that came down
(10:58):
to the fact that when Bryce wanted to drop back,
there was pressure, when there wasn't pressure, that were not
open receivers, and when both of those things were actually
in his favor, he didn't make the throw. So three phases,
you can blame Bryce for one of those three, you
blow outside inertia for what happened to the other two.
It all adds up to an offense being ineffective on Sunday.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
Yeah, and it's hard not to want to sound critic
or be disrespectful Todave's comment, but quite quite, Frankly, what
what did you see that we did not When you
first watched the game just live in person, the offensive
line was an issue, and then you went back and
watched it on tape. The tape shows you the offensive
line was a problem. The the the regular statistics in
(11:42):
the advanced stats, which would suggest to you the offensive
line was a problem, and then look it keep playing hurt. Okay, come,
I'll commend that at this point in the stage, everyone
is playing with something. He well, he abused on Sunday.
I mean he he got DeMarcus Lawrence was unblocked. I
(12:04):
mean he basically did to him what happened to a
friend of mine in middle school. He got picked up,
a shoved in a locker and then got the door
shut on him, over and over and over again. Austin Corbett,
God blessed his soul. I'm glad he's the Walter Payton.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
He's not dead. He's not dead, but he's.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
Not I said, God blessed, not God, not God rest.
But you know, I'm glad he's the Walter Mayton, Walter
Payton candidate. But he's been a liability for three weeks.
Damian Lewis we haven't said his name a lot, but
I thought he was. I thought they were just collectively
bad on Sunday and.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
They were doing stunts and games, and again, you have
to account for that, and it makes it difficult.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
They've earned the benefit of the doubt to be bad, sure,
because of all the injuries they've overcome and played at
such a high level.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
And this is not this credit in Seattle either.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
But they played a role in why they couldn't run
the ball the way they wanted to run the ball.
They played a role with why Bryce was as bad
as he was. They played a role as to why
the offense was anemic as it was. I think there's
no way to sugarcoat down. I think Seattle's a good team.
I don't think there's seventeen points better than the Panthers.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
They're seventeen points better because the Panthers committed two turnovers
and had a turnover.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
On downs in the fourth quarter in their own territory.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
The three touchdown drive or the three big scoring drives
were because of only having to travel thirty yards or less.
So from that perspective, it's like, okay, twenty one points
come basically because of the fact that you had two
turnovers and a turnover on downs late. That's not a
(13:36):
say they're not seventeen points better than the Carolina Panthers.
In reality, in that game they were. This is another
one on what contributed to the lack of passing yards
from Dave Canalis in his Monday Missive.
Speaker 5 (13:49):
Got to give a lot of credit to the Seahawks.
They did a great job just staying on top, making
us have to play underneath the coverage and hit some
of the checkdowns they rallied up and tackled. You know,
I thought we had some oportunities in space that we
didn't make many yards on that, and you know, just
a lot of credit for them, a lot of credit
to the Seahawks for you know, mixing some things up
and you know, making some looks challenging. But we want
(14:10):
to find that productivity down the field. You know, the
explosive element has led to a lot of our success
in recent weeks. You know, to come out of the
game with two explosives, that's something we got to improve upon.
But again, you know, we'll we'll we'll check in with
the guys. We'll make sure that we're you know, tying
up some loose ends. And we got to get going
here pretty quickly.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
Again, somebody asking, you know, why did Bryce turn into
a check down Charlie during the game. That was the
only thing that was open. Those are the other things
that were open on UH on Sunday. And again, is
there part of me that worries that Seattle put the
blueprint out there on how to beat the Panthers?
Speaker 1 (14:43):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (14:44):
Absolutely, And is it something that worries me as soon
as Saturday. Yes absolutely. But I also know that the
Tampa comes in as a reeling animal and Tyler Shuck
just carved them up. So it's it's not some you
look at and I'm sorry, Quinn, yours also just carved
them up too. So there's a lot to sit here
(15:08):
and say, yes, this was bad, And we can get
into the chicken and the egg part of this a
little bit later on. Because there are people who are
angry at Canalis, people are angry at Bryce. We can
juxtapose who is right in what part and who was
wrong in what part. That's a discussion we're going to
have about an hour from right now in terms of
where do you feel like the blame needs to go
(15:30):
for the inconstancy on offense and yes, we won't have
to talk about the defense being bad, because that's the
thing that makes me so sad fiddy is that we
got a very clutch and I would say other worldly
performance from this defense.
Speaker 3 (15:46):
You saw a jarra vera put together a game plan
that makes him what makes him as a defensive coordinator
and why people like Mac myself, some mother panther fans
get frustrated when maybe some people want him fired right
out of town.
Speaker 4 (16:01):
When they do.
Speaker 3 (16:02):
Have some people they do. I will not name it
names some people when they do have a bad game
or a bad showing. Because yeah, they were. They were everywhere.
They were physical. They didn't tackle as well Seattle. That
was a big difference in the game, I thought. But
they gave Carolina a chance to win on a day
where their offense was anemic as it was.
Speaker 4 (16:25):
Ishmael put me in the body bag.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
That's not good. It was a bad scene.
Speaker 4 (16:29):
He said.
Speaker 3 (16:30):
Fitty never got shoved into a locker only because he
couldn't fit.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
It's a bad scene.
Speaker 4 (16:34):
That's not true. I was not fat until I got
out of high school.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
That's bad. It's a bad scene. Man.
Speaker 2 (16:39):
It is ports traded and United to seven WFZ The
Mac and Bone Show, will Ep and Fiddy in for
Mac and Bone. We will come back. Did a little
bit on the playoffs earlier. We'll get into each of
these four playoff games as we sit. It's ports traded
hint to seven WFZ Sports Radio two seven wufn Z.
(17:13):
Willie p here with you in for Mac and Baughan
alongside Fitty Marlow. There have been people commenting and lamenting
that it has been a little tame today. It has
not been fiery, it has not been explosive, it has
not been combustive. Could get there by the end of
the program a couple of segments that are meant to
(17:36):
be combative.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
Well, you've been rather reserved. You've been on your best behavior.
I was giving like strict marching orders from macim Bone
that if negative panther Willie showed up, I had to
fight the good fight and put on my panther cape
and do what panther Fitty does.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
I did not appreciate something that they said yesterday. Well
that's I mean, that's nothing new. I did not appreciate. Look,
we can It's one thing to say that you're annoyed
by something, but then to make it sound like I
made it the entirety of my postgame show. Like the
two things that I grabed about that again had nothing
(18:17):
to do with the game on the field, the victory
formation stuff and the school board stuff. There were a
lot of people who I talked to in the stands
who are angry about the school board stuff.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
Number one.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
The victory formation stuff I heard about secondhand from my
wife who was you know people around me. Were they
sitting there being like, why are they victory formation ing?
And stuff like that, Like that is your last home
game in the regular season, it's fan appreciation day. I
understand the logic of not wanting to have you go
and get somebody hurt, but like, just run a run play.
Speaker 1 (18:48):
Well, that's conservative. Run a conservative run play.
Speaker 3 (18:51):
I mean, in all of your years watching football, and
your gray hair would suggest you've watched a lot of it. Easy,
have you ever seen a team down seven seen kneeling
the football to end the game, Like it's one thing
when you're kneeling to go to halftime. Okay, that we
we we see that like bone and I I'm not.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
Going to say it's the first time I've seen it.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
I don't like all seeing it team willingly kneel out
of like I've seen it team run the ball.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
I've seen a team kneel out a game while losing.
I haven't seen a team do it for the reasons
that Dave did it. That's the point. Yeah, Like there
are people that I want to sit there and say, hey,
you know what, I want to get it over with,
et cetera, and so on. You're a team of the
last season that that, to me took the wind out
of a lot of people's salesman went off went off
on it on Twitter. I saw, and I think he
(19:38):
did so on the text line. Like again, I just
I think the optics of that are bad.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
It's just it's just not a good looking for the
scoreboard thing. I didn't even notice that it wasn't shown
on the score in the away because, I mean, Bone
just had it pulled up on his phone. So every
time the game went to commercial break, we would just
man it. We just checked it ourselves.
Speaker 2 (19:59):
That's what I ended up having to do myself as well.
But like, at the same also, what did you expect?
Like they weren't going Dave was given the option.
Speaker 3 (20:07):
Dave didn't want to have a distraction of his players
looking at his score board of.
Speaker 4 (20:11):
A different game.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
If my team is that mentally weak, then I don't
trust them, Like I would like to think that we're
mentally stronger than that. Not to be beholden too what's
on a screen that we have enough personal pride in
our own life to just freaking go out and ball
out regardless of what's going on on the on the screen,
Like like, why punish your fans in that in that sense,
because you know some of us might not have phone
(20:33):
batteries that could last a whole three hour football game
in the cold like that, Get a new phone, man,
It is Brandy new The the planned obsolescence of iPhones
is just so shocking to me. They literally planned for
this thing to break after a year or two.
Speaker 1 (20:49):
Now, what what.
Speaker 4 (20:51):
Mono do you have? Because mine's at twelve and it's
it's starting to go.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
It's mine.
Speaker 2 (20:55):
Mine is is is a lot newer than yours, and
the battery sucks on it. It absolutely I'm I cannot
get through a day without.
Speaker 1 (21:05):
Needing a without needing some juice.
Speaker 3 (21:07):
Now, now, question, do you leave all your apps running
in the background? No, because Flounder does that and doesn't
understand why his battery does.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
I am very manic about shutting all my apps down.
Ye I'm I'm I'm a manic app shutter if you will. Now,
I have a lot of background activity that happens because
of it, because I got a lot of things, you know,
I got, I got my I got stuff involved in
my car and things of that nature. But you know,
I'm a I'm a manic app closer.
Speaker 4 (21:37):
So okay.
Speaker 2 (21:38):
But but but again it for whatever reason, the the
phones are not made to be durable anymore.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
It's a shame.
Speaker 2 (21:49):
But yeah, I I I did not appreciate you guys being,
you know, intentionally obtuse about trying to be like, oh
willly all will.
Speaker 1 (21:57):
We want to talk about? Was was the scoreboard? And
the no?
Speaker 2 (22:01):
It maybe lasted a a infinitesimal portion of the program
on Sunday.
Speaker 4 (22:07):
There's your first big word of the day.
Speaker 2 (22:09):
Okay, I think I've had other I I used the
word plucky last night for Sam Faber I got.
Speaker 1 (22:17):
I got admonished for that. Well, it was not it
was not good.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
Fabie Forbes did not appreciate that one whatever reason, I
said it with somebody who was having to overcome some
some difficulties and he's like, oh, you had you had
that right in front of you.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
I was like, yeah, because I wanted to make sure
I said it right. But I said the word.
Speaker 2 (22:38):
Came to my mind is like, you're gonna You're gonna
be pleasantly plucky for a midday batin day tomorrow for
the Hornets and the UH and the Warriors. We'll get
into them coming up here a little bit later on
the hour.
Speaker 3 (22:49):
UH.
Speaker 2 (22:50):
We'll start here with the with the Cotton Bowl Ohio
State Miami. This is one where you know, you wonder
how much Ohio State kind of feels seething after the
missed opportunity of the Big Ten title. Again, it didn't
end up being ultimately putted for them.
Speaker 1 (23:06):
They go down one spot.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
They go from playing in the rolls Ball instead of
playing in UH in Dallas. I think they also earn
a little bit of a reprieve in that I think
you'd rather be playing Miami in Dallas than they and
m in Dallas.
Speaker 4 (23:22):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
I was wonder where you're going with that, because I
thought you maybe you were glad they were playing Miami
and Santabama.
Speaker 4 (23:28):
No, I I don't.
Speaker 3 (23:31):
Know if I've got the guts to pick Miami to
win the game, No, I think Miami.
Speaker 4 (23:36):
Is going to push them.
Speaker 1 (23:37):
They're gonna keep it, They're gonna keep it close.
Speaker 3 (23:41):
I would because that defensive line, starting with Ruben Bain,
who I'd I'd love to see in the Panther uniform
next year. That defensive line for Miami is as good
as there is in the country. They're really good on
the offensive line, even though they're offensive next to nothing.
In the win at A and M in the first round,
(24:01):
this is gonna be a man's game, like the more
physical team I think emerges as the winner, right, because
I think both teams are gonna want to run the ball,
and I think both teams are gonna ask their quarterbacks
the same thing.
Speaker 4 (24:14):
Can you make two to three throws?
Speaker 2 (24:16):
That'll be the difference And saying doesn't throw it downfield
a lot, I mean most of it is a lot
of times jump balls for Jeremiah and and and again,
best receiver in the country. No one, no one's, no
one's taking that away from him, And that helps Julian
say and look a heck of a lot better than
maybe he deserves now.
Speaker 1 (24:35):
But at the same point, in time, you gotta make
the throws.
Speaker 4 (24:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (24:38):
The problem though, is is like where is your trust
level in Carson Beck? I don't have a lot because
you know, granted, he just did a way, he just
did win a road playoff game, and maybe that's the
confidence booster he needed because now he played well in
the regular season finale at Pittsburgh. Sure, but then the
games leading up to that, you know, there was there
was some play there that was maybe reason why you
(25:00):
wouldn't believe Miami could be a factor if they got
into the playoff.
Speaker 1 (25:03):
But here they are.
Speaker 4 (25:05):
But I think it's going to be a fascinating game.
Speaker 3 (25:08):
I am not here for the two thousand and two
storyline that they are going to talk about at nauseum.
And look, I understand that that's that's got to place
in title game.
Speaker 1 (25:22):
Lower I was a bit how old were you either
when that When that game was.
Speaker 3 (25:26):
I was seven six I was six seven years old
whenever that title game took place, Dude, man, that was
that was one of the best college football games I've
ever watched in my entire life. But like these two
teams have played each other since then, Sure, I don't
want that to be not on these stakes though.
Speaker 4 (25:42):
No, they have not.
Speaker 3 (25:43):
But I'm not saying this because I'm an acc guy.
But I think this game is very winnable for Miami,
and if Miami were to win, I would not be
I would not be surprised because I think they're every
bit as good as Ohio State is up front.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
I was pulling for Ken Dorsey hard in that game too. Man.
Oh oh terrible, horrible, no good, very bad.
Speaker 2 (26:07):
But no, I I I don't think that's necessary. I
think that's a factor more for the you know, for
like the Michael Irvans of the world, like Mike Michael
everyone probably come in and be like, oh man, we
you know we we lost to Ohio State back, you know,
twenty three years ago.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
Whatever.
Speaker 2 (26:20):
I'm not saying it's a it's a factor. It's just
it's a it's a it's an anecdote, it's a it's
a footnote.
Speaker 1 (26:25):
Uh these other games.
Speaker 2 (26:26):
To Texas Tech Oregon, I disagree with you where I
think that the the team who wins this game has
a path because I do think Indiana will probably beat
the winner of this game. Oregon might be a little
bit tougher for them because it would be a rematch.
It's hard to beat a team twice. I think Tech
is very very good. Uh you meant you mentioned that
(26:47):
that they have a lot of that defense of solidarity,
and that's gonna be an incredible matchup. It could be
something where those two may be cancel each other out
and it comes down to whether or not can score
on Oregon. I think that might be where it ends up, potentially,
coming back to the wast side, I'd still favor.
Speaker 1 (27:09):
Oregon in this one slim victory there.
Speaker 3 (27:11):
Even though they're they're making the trip from the West
coast to the east. They'll be playing with nine am
with their body clock. How soon did they get there?
Did they get there? A lot of times of these
Bowl games they go, they go pretty early. Yeah, So
I'm one that's my pael I'm wondering how soon Oregon
got there. I know, for the for the Rose Bowl,
(27:32):
Bama and Indiana just got there within the last couple
of days. I think Bama obviously a lot, you know,
more sooner because they they had the they had the
game hustle. If they think Indiana of course had the
opportunity to get there a little bit earlier, but at
the same point in time, you know, when it comes
to Oregon. It's a lot to ask, but.
Speaker 2 (27:52):
I think those kind of things get mitigated in a
playoff atmosphere. I believe Indiana Alabama. I just think the
road ends here for Bama. I think that this is
one you look at and say is incredibly intriguing. Also
one point further on Texas Tech and I think they
also could be applied to this game. Not that Indiana
(28:12):
would be anti the Rose Bowl, but I'm seeing a
lot of like low ticket prices for getting prices for
the freaking Rose Bowl. It makes me wonder if again
the quarterfinal round, maybe this is too soon to be
having these games be in neutral sites, and it'd be
cool to see the teams that are in the top
(28:34):
four get the benefit of having that home playoff game.
Could you imagine what a home playoff game Indiana Alabama
would be for this Hoosiers team, a historic one being
and it is.
Speaker 4 (28:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (28:43):
I got told last week that we got to keep
these quarterfinal matchups on neutral sites to keep Bowl game
relevancy going and because neutral side games produce more competitive results,
which is just factually incorrect. Get the fourteen playoff era,
what was the first round of usually there were two
(29:05):
blowout games and then you got to the national title game,
and usually you got a good game. But no, I
do think this is something in the when this thing
either expands or you keep it at twelve. And they
don't need to expand this thing. No, there aren't more
than twelve teams worthy of competing for a national championship.
Speaker 4 (29:20):
No, yes, no, the teams.
Speaker 3 (29:21):
That are that earn a bye should be given the
right to play at home in a playoff setting to
advance into the semi finals. Then you pick up the
bowl games. You just rotate though, you just rotate the
sites around. I'd like you know, now, I'm a guy.
I think the Rose Bowl, like I said to me
in fiddies world, that's where the national title game would
be played every single year. There's not a better setting
(29:44):
for the sport than the Rose Bowl. But you just
start rotating the sites for the semi finals and the
national title game. We don't need to watch a national
title game in Los Angeles, in Las Vegas, or in Tampa.
We make the title game in thesedditional bull sites. But
they're not going to do that because they know they
can sell this game and make you know, have very
(30:06):
much money off of it. But no, I'm with you
one hundred percent. I could not imagine the scene in
Bloomington if they were hosting Alabama in a playoff site,
like there would be babies being conceived in the stands.
And I don't think I'm exaggerating you you you went,
you went for it? Did you? You went for it?
Speaker 4 (30:26):
I mean you've been there. Am I lying?
Speaker 1 (30:28):
No, you're not.
Speaker 2 (30:29):
It's it's an it's it's one of those like real
nice old timey football stadiums, like like it's like it's
it's a it's a nice building.
Speaker 1 (30:37):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
I don't know if you saw sixty minutes that a
big spread on it. John Mellencamp has got like a
perch at the top of the press box.
Speaker 4 (30:45):
It's awesome.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
And he does it there because he can smoke there,
which is just the biggest g move ever.
Speaker 4 (30:51):
Are you a Mellencamp fan?
Speaker 1 (30:53):
Sure?
Speaker 4 (30:54):
Favorite song?
Speaker 2 (30:56):
That's hard because there are a couple of them. But
I have to go hurt So Good that's probably that's
probably the one.
Speaker 4 (31:08):
That you go for, right, No, Pink Cows is mine? Yeah,
Hurts So Good is the one?
Speaker 3 (31:15):
Is the one I feel like you have to go with,
oh mom, baby, make it hurts so good.
Speaker 2 (31:21):
You wanted me to sing, didn't you. That was the
goal he wanted me to sing. That's fine, Uh, Georgia,
old Miss. I have to tell you, this is one
that I feel like Georgia can get this game over with.
Speaker 3 (31:34):
I worry about old Miss being overwhelmed by the moment
with the first time head coach. And there's not a
better motivator in the sport they Kirby, Like, I think
he's gonna want to shut that Cinderella story up.
Speaker 2 (31:51):
I also I also think too, this just this this
motivating factor of hey, you know we we kind of
feel some kind of way about our current standing in
this whole thing and still feel like, you know, we're
not getting enough respect. Like like he he plays the
disrespect card better than anybody not named Dabbo when I
come to college football, and I think that's that's something
(32:13):
that he'll definitely.
Speaker 1 (32:14):
Have have them in here coming up. Babo.
Speaker 2 (32:19):
That was good. That was very very good. Do you
have to do an update here or no? No, you
do not the next hour. You have to do the
update just once before we get out of here. Okay,
so we'll do one here next hour, We'll come back.
Hornet's unfortunate loss last night, they also lose Miles and
a couple of offseason moves have started the offseason for
Charlotte FC as well Sports Ready on ninety two seven WFNZ,
(32:50):
of course, our John Mellencamp discussion just just you know,
gave a lot of people talking about John Mellencamp. On
our text line. Someone brought up Jack and Diane. I
didn't leave that off on intention. I just feel like
Jack and Die Ine gets the same kind of overplay
sensation for me that Journeys Don't Stop Believing gets from
me a little bit similar situation. It's good. Yeah, I'm
(33:12):
not saying it's bad. I just I feel like I
hear it a lot.
Speaker 3 (33:14):
Yeah, Like it's usually maybe the first Mellencamp song you're
gonna hear, yeah, which some would say Piano Man has
the same kind of situation with with Billy Joel.
Speaker 4 (33:26):
Those are fighting words, Willy.
Speaker 2 (33:27):
I'm not you know me as the one between the
two of us who've seen Billy Joel live and I
love Billy Joel, It's still not my favorite Billy Joel song.
Speaker 4 (33:41):
And look you're you're you're allowed to be wrong.
Speaker 3 (33:44):
Stop it. You're wrong quite often. Top it's his it's
his best song. The damning thing about that, I don't
really like it that much. That's the damning thing you've heard.
You've heard him talk about it before. He doesn't really
even like that that song that much. And when Walker
discovered the audio of him basically crapping on what I
believe is his best song, it was not a good
(34:04):
look for someone that defends piano man.
Speaker 4 (34:08):
But I was just surprised you to say you thought
you were.
Speaker 2 (34:11):
Going to say it's not a good look for Billy
Joel cropping on his own song.
Speaker 4 (34:16):
I'm just surprised how much John Mellencamp we have in
the system.
Speaker 1 (34:19):
Back here, a lot in there.
Speaker 3 (34:20):
Like I could probably go the rest of the show
just playing Mellencamp beats. I'm not gonna do that. Of course,
Bebop hates John Cougar Mellencamp, but what does he what
does he not hate?
Speaker 1 (34:29):
It's pretty stupid.
Speaker 2 (34:30):
Also, Bagol guy is really really trying me this morning.
He is trying me right now because he's been trying
to get me on the Lionel Messio talk.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
About Lito Mossy. But in the MLS Cup.
Speaker 2 (34:40):
Great, great that you can circumvent the MLS roster rules
and win a championship.
Speaker 1 (34:45):
Go ahead.
Speaker 4 (34:46):
Can I ask you a question?
Speaker 3 (34:48):
And I'm not like trying to be anti soccer, anti
MLS guy, But with as much as he's accomplished individually,
he got the he got his covered World Cup in
one of the epic finals.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
Are you asking where does the MLS Cup rank in
his reflecting on his career, when will winning an MLS
Cup get brought up? I mean it's it's after the
World Cup, obviously, right, it's after all the Bolan doors obviously.
Speaker 1 (35:22):
He's I mean.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
He's won a lot of championships at Barcelona. I mean
they won, they won a lot of league somewhere in
the neighborhood of eight nine, ten times.
Speaker 1 (35:33):
They won the.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
Copleo del Ray about seven or eight as well. He's
Champions League. He was a Champions League winner four times there.
So I mean i'd say probably after all those you
have a club World Cup probably doesn't do it as
much for him. One league wanted at PSG twice, I'd say,
(35:56):
I'd say after the Barsia Championships, I would say again,
I'm not saying it's trust me, it's not anything to
sneeze at. Man's won a lot. It's fine. Charlotte Pee
makes a couple of moves over the course last couple
of days. I just wanted to kind of bring some
context to they got some gam yesterday?
Speaker 1 (36:15):
They did.
Speaker 2 (36:16):
They got some gam yesterday trading Drake Calendar to Minnesota.
This is kind of the chain reaction of moves that
involve Dane Sinclair going to aforementioned inner Miami from Minnesota,
and then, ironically enough, Minnesota gets Miami's old keeper, Drake
Calendar from US after we paid seven point fifty.
Speaker 1 (36:36):
To get him last year.
Speaker 2 (36:38):
I think again they brought him into the insurance because
they weren't happy with Cleana's form, and people were saying, oh,
why do you basically sell him at a break even point. Listen,
no one's buying a keeper who hadn't played. So what
ended up happening is Charlotte sold them for four hundred
fifty thousand. They're gonna get three hundred k if Drake
plays a whole season, or at least close to it,
(37:00):
so it'll basically end up being a wash. They can
either go get a keeper or they can promote from within.
I don't think it's a major loss for Charloto f C.
He wasn't going to play Kaleen is your starter. Out
and out, No big deal. The other move I think
is a bigger move. Luca de la Torre. Who is this?
This is, by the way, the third, the third attempt
(37:22):
by this front office to unseat Brent Bronico from the
midfield position.
Speaker 1 (37:27):
Third attempt.
Speaker 2 (37:27):
They did it in twenty three with Nikola Petkevic, they
did it last year with Eric Williamson, and they did
it this year with Luca Delaty. The third chance to
try and unseat Bran Bronicco. I say that for the
reason of you know me, I love Brant Dean understand.
Dean understands you need more offense from that position, period stop.
(37:51):
And I love brand Luco. Probably a little bit more offense.
He's a US men's national team player. Twenty seven, uh
this he had five goals and want to say last
year with San Diego, he comes over from a club
in Spain. He was on loan to San Diego from
Soulta Vigo. I wonder if he's going to play enough defense,
(38:11):
if he's going to be good enough defensively for Dina
put him in the lineup. That's the biggest question you
always see with people who are playing that position that
Bronco plays, is that he wants that position to have
some defensive bite to it. Will that be enough to
get him in the lineup. We'll see what happens when
it comes to Luca deed Toy. But I like the
move in terms of what is left for them. I
(38:33):
don't seeing them going out and getting another forward. I
know people are talking about the Antoine Greetsman thing. I
don't think there's water to that. You're still got to
get the Milan to replacement. I think that a backup keeper,
maybe another depth player potentially. But I think from the
move standpoint, they're basically done. And I understand that people
will sit here and say, where's the transformative move. They
(38:55):
like their core. They're a big fan of their core.
They've got they've got a young, ascending corps. When it
comes to you know, Tokamadi, they've got Zaja on the
one side. Maybe you sell a Bata and can go
get another winger. On the right side, maybe you can
make an upgrade there. But I just don't know if
that's something that's that's in the cards as of yet,
they like Vargas. I think they're going to stand pat
there at that position. But that's kind of where Charlott
(39:17):
of c sits right now in advance of the transfer
window opening here in two days.
Speaker 1 (39:23):
What was that, I'm just.
Speaker 3 (39:25):
Playing drops of you talking about I'm trying to get
some FC drops going over here.
Speaker 1 (39:29):
I like that.
Speaker 3 (39:30):
Have they done enough in your opinion to recreate the
regular season success, which is they finished top four? I
think again, you think their position to finally advance into
the postseason.
Speaker 2 (39:43):
Well, I think they would have if they had pet Blink.
And I think that's kind of what they're banking on.
They're banking on the fact that if you have pet
bl for the balance of a season, you have a
better standing and a better showing during the regular season.
Speaker 1 (40:00):
You have a better opportunity to win it all.
Speaker 2 (40:04):
And and I think too they have their eyes instead
and then they have their their their hearts set on
not just the MLS Cup, but they want to win
Supporter Shield. It's gonna be hard to beat Miami. Miami
is reloading all the all, all of MESSI super friends
are retiring, and they're getting more guys back, so that's
gonna be difficult to try and supplant them. But they
(40:26):
really liked their team last year, and and and and
maybe running it back is something that that FC fans
don't want to see because of how disappointing it was
for a second year in a row. But they believe
in they believe in the formula, and they believe in
a full season of Tokomadi, a full season of pet
bl whatever you can reinforce during the summer. You're gonna
have a long summer window now with the World Cup
(40:48):
to be able to reevaluate and see what you what
you can bring in. So that's a little bit of
a different element when it comes to the way this
season goes. There's also going to be some more of
those midweek games, which could be a great equalizer, could
be something that ends up being something that's hard for
them to stomach. We'll see how they they go through it.
Speaker 1 (41:04):
Just quickly.
Speaker 2 (41:04):
Last down on the Hornets, they lose by ten to Milwaukee.
They also lose Miles Bridges to an ankle injury. I
think the fact that Miles came back out on the
bench before the game was over in street close tells
me that the injury is not that serious. If it
had been more serious, think you don't see Miles on
the bench. I still think it was a hard thing
for them to have to overcome. Last night got to
(41:25):
a point where in the third quarter they were not winning.
They honest minutes. Weird thing was this was a tie game.
First two possessions of the fourth quarter they got two threes,
got it to a tie score, and you're thinking, Okay,
this could be an opportunity for them to go through
a run. And then Milwaukee just goes on a run
of their own to start the fourth quarter. They went
(41:46):
on a thirteen to two run, fifteen six, seventeen to
seven extended run, and then they end up running away
and hiding and beat the Hornets one twenty three, one thirteen.
But you think, you keep you keep seeing consistent play
with them to win every game. But Waukee's a good team,
even though they're not that much better record wise than
the Hornets are. I think when they are at full strength,
(42:08):
they are still maybe about a half head tall than
where the Hornets are. But at the same point in time, Fitty,
you know, this next set of games represents an opportunity
for them. Maybe you pick off some teams number one
and number two, get themselves back into a position where
they don't have to be ultimate sell it's to trade deadline.
I don't think they can necessarily be buyers, but it
(42:30):
allows you to get an extended run of what this
team can be based on having an extended run of healthy.
Unfortunate part of it is it does seem like the
jury bug is once again creeped up and reared and
took the ahead with the Hornets.
Speaker 4 (42:41):
And that's the thing.
Speaker 3 (42:42):
They just they need to have extensive time to evaluate
what this roster looks like top to bottom, to figure
out what they're gonna do at the trade deadline.
Speaker 4 (42:50):
I what are they gonna do?
Speaker 3 (42:51):
Maybe with at with the potential move surrounding LaMelo ball,
but you can you can see it coming together with
LaMelo on the court land night, with Brandon Miller on
the court last night, No Konkain Nipple us. You lose
Miles but t John Salon, he's a different basketball player
than he was. Liam mcneely's growing and progressing. So the
record wouldn't suggest that there's been there's been growth in progress,
(43:15):
but there has been, and I think that's that's where
they're at right now.
Speaker 4 (43:19):
They're still not prior warritizing winning.
Speaker 3 (43:22):
Hopefully we're getting closer and closer to that the more
they get to see this core play together on the court.
Speaker 2 (43:28):
Ishmael's angry at me now because he said it the line.
I just hit another three up by forty six now
on Missouri. Thank you for speeding up maybe the end
of the Dennis Gates era, Ishmael, Thank you very much
for that.
Speaker 1 (43:39):
Thank you very much for that.
Speaker 2 (43:40):
Also, Shaggy wants to know any news on New York
City actually upgrading from their middle school size pitch next
season twenty six is the last year that they'll have
to play at the in the Baseball stadium, so they'll
play in their Brandy New Digs just across from City
Field starting in the twenty twenty seventh season. It is
the Mac and Bone Show. Sports Right on ninety seven
WFNZ will come back. Greg Allman will join us. We'll
(44:02):

as well. He is the Fox Sports NFC South reporter.
