Speaker 1 (00:11):
How you start with the physical traits. So I did
watch him, I did evaluate his film. You know, I
think in this league, regardless of where you're at with
a quarterback situation, you know, quarterbacks, sometimes you end up
in another opportunity down the line to evaluate the players,
to see if they can help you in some way.
So I try to make sure we have our due
diligence to watch him. A big, strong athlete, he's got
(00:31):
a he's got a phenomenal arm. He can run. And
what I've seen him do is in this you know,
limited sample side, what I've seen him do is playing
really clean football and uh, you know, for the most part,
just executing their offense. And he's got some special throws
in there.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
That is Dave Canal is, head coach of York Carolina Panthers,
talking about Drake May and his evaluation of him now
and from the draft process. He is the sort of
kid from Charlotte And by the way, how about Charlotte
and Daniel Jones bawling out freaking unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
Wait till he plays a bad game, That's all I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
We will see settle down flat. We're trying to actually
be nice to Charlotte Tean, all right, I'll second here.
He's bawling out. He's playing amazing again. You know, I
don't know what level he going to play at down
the road and all that stuff, but it is extremely notable.
But yeah, I wish Drake May the best, just not
this week. He's that sort of guy for me, Bone.
I hope he plays great every other game this week, though,
(01:30):
I need the defense to go out there and try
to make it two straight damn shutouts. Bill Simmons and
cousin Sal were calling him Drake maybe the other day
because maybe he's good, maybe he's not.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
They're not really sure right now.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
And Simmons, of course of Patriots face his cousin Sal
calling him Drake maybe. But Bill Simmons was saying, there's
like one play a game lately where something horrific happens
for him, Like he has these good moments and then
Drake May has these terrifying moments in a game that
he can't avoid.
Speaker 4 (01:56):
Right now.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
It's almost like he's a young quarterback. Yeah, yeah, Simmons.
I know that your specialty is NBA fake trades, but
it's almost like Bony, you should be able to understand
that a young quarterback is going to learn and make mistakes.
I guess that's it's just it's just mind boggling sometimes
people when you talk about yunki bees.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
But anyway, I digress.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
By the way, great point on the text line by
multiple people bringing up Saudi Arabia and like United at
a red Emberate stuff like that, Like, could you see
bone those places buy the super Bowl? We know the
NFL likes money. Could you see the super Bowl go
to those places? Because I think that I think y'all,
y'all saddly might be onto something. Yeah, I think so
(02:39):
super Bowl could go anywhere. I mean Roger Goodell just
has those hands out baby, Oh thank you, Okay. I
mean all these international games they now have in the
regular see the super Bowl? Could you could tell me
Mackett can be played anywhere in the next twenty twenty
five years and I'll probably like it as long as
the moolass there. That's the thing they Everything they do
is for the moolah, all right. So there's a lot
of it in the Middle East. If it don't make money,
(03:00):
it don't make sense. Don't make dollars, don't make sense.
You messed up to say, don't make dollars. It don't
make sense. Come on, baby, pick it up, all right?
All right, So, flound I had to cut you off
from shots at Daniel Jones.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
All right, I had to cut you.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
Off from that, but you will be allowed to praise
your favorite Charlotte native quarterback. And we said, flound get ready,
we're gonna talk about Bryce Young and Drake May, and yes,
who you got who would you want to have right
now on Sunday? Bryce Young or Drake May? And who
would you rather have for the long term? Flounder's some
(03:38):
major Drake May fans. So to get into character because
we knew know which way he's going bone. He wore
the Drake May Patriots jersey today during Patriots Panthers Week.
Unbelieve I'd rather have Fitty dressed in a thong.
Speaker 4 (03:51):
No, No, we don't want to go that far. May Jersey.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
Are you trolling us, flound Are you trying to troll
us and make us angry.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
A little bit?
Speaker 3 (03:58):
A little bit? I knew it would make gangry, so
I decided to wear it.
Speaker 5 (04:02):
But I'm also supporting my favorite quarterback in the NFL
besides Jackson Dart right, now.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
So yeah, and you got him going this week, all right,
So let's I'll go to you first on this bone
Panther fans out there, non Panther fans that just you know,
live here in Charlotte, Bryce Young versus Drake May bone,
who would you rather have? Like this week? Right now?
Who would you rather have? Long term? I fully admit
that this is relatively close. This isn't like one way
(04:30):
or the other. I think there's someone's gonna have a
major lead on the other. I would go Bryce Young
right now. That's that's my choice for the moment, yes,
and long term movie Bryce Young. Although I think Drake
May is gonna be really good. I think they're gonna
be kind of even when we do quarterback rankings going forward,
I think Drake May and Bryce Young will not be
far off from one another. But I put the edge
(04:51):
right now towards Bryce Young. Yeah. Also, like Mike Rabels
offenses that he had in Tennessee, they were really good teams.
But Dacon Alice was talking about yesterday, there's a certain
way that they want to win. They want to run
the football, they want to win with defense. And is
Drake May ever going to be a guy Mack that
puts up huge numbers. With Mike Rabel as the head coach,
(05:14):
they might win some. But I think I think Bryce
Young is just a little bit ahead of Drake Mayory.
I still and I don't know if we're designed to
put up huge numbers, you know what I mean. I
don't know if that's the way we want to play
football either necessarily. To be honest, for right now, I
want Bryce Young and I'm not saying it's been the
greatest start to the season for Bryce Young, Boney, and
I realize Drake May's up there.
Speaker 4 (05:35):
I think right around tenth.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
I think he's like eleventh in quarterback rating, or might
even be tenth something like that. So I realized statistically,
Drake may has been better. Drake and Bryce have both
bone throwing a lot of short balls. Drake May has not.
He's been throwing the deep ball and intermediate ball accurately,
but he hasn't been throwing many of them. So this
is going to be a game that we got to
come up and tackle again on the short passes. He's
(06:00):
got the ability to run, He's got the physical advantage
of Bryce got to hate myself for this. I think
long term, I might say Drake May. Oh my god,
I might say it's right answer, But right now, Bryce
has more experience. I thought Bryce played better if you
take that second half of the year last year, and
I did actually, I actually did this like a few
(06:22):
months ago in the summertime. Was like looking at other
young quarterbacks during that period, and Bryce was far away
above Stroud. He was far and away above Drake for
that portion of the season. This start to the season,
I feel like him and Stroud have been close statistically,
but Drake's been better than both of those just because
of the physical Like, Drake can run and Bryce can run,
(06:42):
but Drake's got a bigger arm, Drake has a bigger frame.
But I don't take joy in saying this man for
the long term, I might lean Drake May. But honestly,
like I believe Bryce Young can be a perennial top
ten quarterback, and I believe Drake May can be a
perennial top ten I like both these young quarterbacks. Offensive
line's been a problem for Drake right flound. That's been
(07:04):
a big issue.
Speaker 5 (07:05):
Yes, he's basically got real campbell, and that's pretty much it.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Twelve sacks already, second most in the NFL, so flound
we know who you're taking because you wore the jersey,
like do you long term?
Speaker 3 (07:16):
Currently, I would take Bryce Good.
Speaker 4 (07:18):
Okay, so you agree with me? Yes, I do believe.
Speaker 5 (07:21):
I believe, especially because of the turn some of the
turnover issues that he's had early in the season, I
think I would probably lean Bryce. Although Bryce has had
some turnover issues too, I would still I would still
go with Bryce. I think the experience for Bryce right
now is probably what leads me to take him over Drake.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
I just think he's learned the lessons. You know that
that Drake, and he learned him hard. But Drake is
still learning those lessons. That's so on Sunday, I feel
like we're gonna have the better quarterback.
Speaker 4 (07:47):
I hope.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
I'm not jinxing them, but long term, I do think
there's a question. I'll say this about Bryce Bone He's
not normally a guy that's a heavy turnover guy. Matter
of fact, he played so clean they think it was
three interceptions. Like the last eight or nine games last year.
He usually takes care of the ball, usually throw it
away and not put it a harm. Instead, the last
seven quarters he has not turned it over.
Speaker 4 (08:09):
Now the first five was it? The first five quarters?
Ye had? First five quarters?
Speaker 2 (08:13):
He had five, Yeah, but the last seven body had
turned it over. So I think he's getting back to himself,
which bodes well for Sunday, I think. And some of
those are just not holding the football when he gets
hit also, right, I mean that's been a major problem too.
Is just any hit that ball can be jarred loose.
I Once he figures that out, hopefully that cuts down
some of the turnover. And that didn't happen late in
(08:34):
the year last year, Now that was a rookie year
and a first five quarters this year thing, Yes, it
was very weird. He seemed to kind of protect that
ball better with interceptions and fumbles late last year. It
seems like when things are going like really wrong, that's
when the ball all of a sudden falls out of
his hands. When he's in a rhythm, when he's doing well. Yeah,
it feels like those things don't happen as much. No, definitely, definitely.
(08:55):
Maybe he's pressing trying to make a play. But I
don't know why you try to press game one something
like that, right, because doesn't seem to happen when he's
in a good rhythm. Stickma thinks it's his little hands,
you know, but again he still doesn't have baby piket
hands though, you know what I mean Bryce's hand. Bryce's
hands looked like the damn Hamburglar compared to Is that
the right reference? Or no, that's not a right reference,
isn't I don't know what am I trying to think.
Speaker 3 (09:17):
Of this Hamburger help, Hamburger helper.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
Okay, the big Hamburger helper hand Hamburgler.
Speaker 4 (09:25):
I got McDonald's on my mind.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
Yeah, the Patriots are going to try to use those
big old Hamburger helper gloves to catch the uh Ryan's.
They better get those, They better get those. So how
do you guys feel about this?
Speaker 4 (09:37):
Like? Is it this?
Speaker 2 (09:38):
Dude says it's blasphea not take Bryce. Another guy says,
once again, Mac betrays Bryce just like last season after
the benching. I probably deserve that crowd. I'm just trying
to be honest about it. I honestly think Bryce the
way Stroud has looked when like he doesn't have like
when Bobby Slowick's play call ling bone stopped fooling the
(10:02):
league last season. Yeah, then he ends up getting fired
when his protection has gone awry here the last season.
Plus to me, there's a there is a legit chance
Bryce Young has a better career than CJ.
Speaker 4 (10:15):
Stroud.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
I honestly believe that. Yeah, if we throw him into
this comparison, because the sample of Stroud like sort of
trending down, it's more than just like a small sample.
Now it's a year and some change where he's still
he's still good. But mac remember last year when people
were doing their quarterback lists, like in the preseason, some
people had Stroud like five six seven, They had him
(10:38):
like all the way, not quite at the top, but
right below that Lamar Allen Burrow range. Oh yeah, And
now it's like he'll he's nowhere near that right now. No,
to have no doubt about it. By the way, Jacob
Is wants to set the record straight, says Bryce has
almost ten inch hands. Sir, oh, so, I looked it
up his hand, but his are definitely bigger than pickets.
(11:02):
I mean, if you have an infant, if you just
had a baby born in the last month, he probably
has bigger handsan Kenny Pickett. But like there are guys
like Russes are bigger than and Bryce's I did this
whole look up too. I've compared hands, I've compared stats
for the last nine games last year for Bryce.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
Hopefully he stopped at hands.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
Yeah, hopefully that where it ends. Seven oh four numbers
says all right, Max. So you're simply you're you're being
so simple about this. You're not thinking about anticipation or
progressing or any of Bryce's super skills. You're just looking
at Drake May's size. Yeah, that's part of it. Arm strength.
I mean, maybe that is too simplait.
Speaker 5 (11:36):
Bryce is gonna be able to throw the deep ball
the way that Drake does.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
Yeah, and Bryce can throw it if guys can catch you.
How about that stat flound that you found from on
one of those grafts where Bryce is like, Bryce is
over sixty five percent bone accuracy on his deep balls
this year, but below average EPA because guys aren't making
plays on these passes. Interesting stat Like, it's just he's
(12:02):
putting the ball. He's giving guys a chance. Sanders slid
out drop one. He's given guys a chance and they're
not catching it. The thing about Drake is with the
offensive line problems that they have got, he got battered
last year from the offensive line. If that does not improve,
even though he's got the size advantage on Bryce, you
worry too about durability with Drake may have the offensive
(12:24):
line does not get better, and they amount it. He
takes a lot more hits and a lot more thumps
than Bryce Young does, even as the bigger guy. That's
what we talked about when Bryce was coming out. Just
because the guy is small doesn't mean that bigger quarterbacks
also can't take a hit two and be injured because
of that.
Speaker 4 (12:38):
They're all human, doesn't matter how big that human body is.
Speaker 5 (12:40):
The bigger the quarterback, it seems like they get injured
a little bit easier.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
Remember that big Ben took on the field all those years. Yeah,
he just kept playing though it didn't matter that dude.
I remember the one time he had the ball in
his right hand and he had his one of his
legs in his left hand.
Speaker 4 (12:56):
I mean, that's like that, dude. I couldn't stand that, dude.
Speaker 2 (12:59):
But my god, I'm not sure there's been a tougher
quarterback ever to play in the NFL that he.
Speaker 3 (13:03):
Would like to submit. Eli Manning. He took some hillacious
hits and would continue to get his.
Speaker 4 (13:09):
Helmet would be like sideways.
Speaker 2 (13:10):
He had the manning face get and yeah, and then
his face would be glazed and say, I'm not sure
he should still be pa Think about Big Ben Mack
was this. He would play through the injuries. He'd take
a lot of hits. Then he would tell you during
the week the exact injuries that he had. He'd show
you his bruises. Oh yeah, he wanted you to know
he was playing hurt. But when the game came, he
played through it. Man broken nose, played through it. Patrick says,
(13:30):
so by that logic, Mac would take Richardson over both
May and Young because of his size. No, let's try
to Richardson can't throw a ball accurately.
Speaker 4 (13:39):
Yeah, come on, let's try to.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
You know, you know you're being a you know, smart
smarty cat there, but let's try to like look at dishonestly,
Like if they're very similar. If I think bone that
Bryce and Drake May could both be guys that are
in the top ten quarterbacks.
Speaker 4 (13:56):
That yeah, and I think Bryce can still get there.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
I know many of you just with that, and many
of you have problem with me making that statement, But
like I may then you know, break the tie with
the physical skill set the arm strength and the size
and stuff like that. I'm not saying if a dude's
as bad as Richardson has been that I would then,
you know, elevate him.
Speaker 4 (14:14):
I don't trying to.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
I don't think there's a lot of separation really, and
there will be a lot of separation between the two guys.
Here come the guys mad at us bone. The fact
that you guys are having a serious conversation comparing Bryce
to Stroud and May is laughable. The little guy is
the odd man out, this dude says, which one does
not belong in the conversation. How about Bryce Young, the
(14:37):
guy that's two feet smaller than the other two. So
that's all you got is I get a size jokes.
Brock Osweiler was a really tall quarterback. Who would you
rather have a smaller guy like Drew Brees or Brock?
That's the thing. I know, I just took break because
of his size. But that's not everything and all. Where
you can make up for your size see Drew Brees,
Russell Wilson, you can make up for it in another way.
(14:57):
There's a lot of tall quarterbacks back that I do
believe we would take Drew Brees and Russell Wilson over
over the years, right, a lot of a lot of
talk quarters big time. Would you rather have Mike Glennon
or Russell Wilson.
Speaker 5 (15:11):
Mike Glennon, by the way, I've had both, I would
take Russell Wilson.
Speaker 4 (15:14):
There you go, Thank you for that insight.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
I would like to ask Mike Glennon if he has
kindness and if he's a charitable man, you seem to
have a surplus A next, sir, and Fiddy Marlow doesn't
have any neck? Can you please lend some of your
neck to Fiddy Marlow?
Speaker 3 (15:28):
Sir?
Speaker 4 (15:28):
Thank you? Damn. Can we do a neck neck transfer?
Speaker 2 (15:34):
If you put if you put like a radio signal
on Mike Glennon's neck, how far could that thing reach?
Speaker 4 (15:40):
I don't know. Our streaming would probably be working. Yeah,
his neck was. That probably makes sense.
Speaker 3 (15:46):
I was gonna make the same joke.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
I think we're back on stream. We're back on Yeah,
our stream's working all right now.
Speaker 6 (15:53):
Now.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
Unfortunately, that's a good news back. Unfortunately, guys like be
Bop can I hear the show? B Bob was probably
enjoying bt stream They saying us like we were bowing back.
Speaker 4 (16:02):
Probably his routine.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
Seven oh four number says damn it, Mac, and I'm
drinking one Mountain candy every fifteen minutes in protest.
Speaker 4 (16:08):
Until the streaming is fixed. You might be able to stop.
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
Maybe you can stop, although as long as you're safely
at home. Although it is seven am, but as long
as you're safely at home, I would say it's six
more time, sir.
Speaker 4 (16:19):
Let's say it is.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
When we come back here on the Mac and Bojo.
I cannot wait for this one.
Speaker 4 (16:24):
Mac. Eugene Robinson of.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
The Panthers Radio network joins us after a win. If
people thought there was Homer stuff going on before, you
have to hear Mac and Eugene together. In the next segment,
Sports Radio ninety two seven WFNZ, we are rocking and
(17:03):
rolling on a Thursday. I almost called it a Tuesday.
What's wrong with me? We got football on the tube tonight.
ECU in Action. Good luck to Pirate Nation against Army,
although I feel bad rooting against Army. These guys are
the future heroes bone in this country.
Speaker 4 (17:20):
But CU, I'm pulling for you anyway.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
And in the NFL we got Seattle and Arizona Supdogs
is hosting Sports Center this afternoon, the Matt Barry thing
or he goes on campus. It's at Subdogs today, So
I'm going to guess back that Tom Wiganbill might stop
buying partake also while he's there at Subdog.
Speaker 4 (17:36):
Very cool man, very cool. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
I love those little campus hits. But that's that that
could that could up things up a notch Matt Barry.
But I'll make it to the game. All right, man,
let's do this. Let's talk about a game coming up
on Sunday. Let's reflect back on the one last Sunday,
you know, the shutout win over the hated Falcons, and
let's do it with a man who is the perfect guy.
(17:59):
Bone I said this week to you, I said, you
know who we need to get on now that this
city is buzzing about the Panthers after that shutout win.
We got to talk to Eugene Robinson, who is just
I mean in he is just in his zone when
you've got Panthers optimism just like we are. And Eugene
(18:20):
Robinson a long time NFL dB, longtime remember the Panther
Radio network. I was listening to him on Panther Talk
with Coach Canalis this week, Eugene, what's going on?
Speaker 4 (18:29):
Man? How you doing?
Speaker 6 (18:31):
Man? I am doing wonderful. Man, big win last week,
there you go.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
It was man, what did you think? And that's why
you're here man. We love your enthusiasm. So we finally
got something positive talk about this season. What did you
notice in that shutout win defensively that that were the
keys in your mind?
Speaker 6 (18:50):
Well, I think what kind of goes like unset a
little bit, is that they were able to hold that
be shown Robinson to like maybe in the first court,
first half, they held him in check and I was like,
I thought that he would go off because I think
he's one of the best running backs in the league.
But I thought he would go off, and we were
able to hold him and check in the first three quarters,
(19:12):
and I was like, that was I thought one of
the difference. And then don't forget the interceptions with you
got way Smith and Jack got an interception that went
a long way, and that also that funk force fumble.
Uh the mighty Richardson getting that thought from us end.
I thought defense played extremely well. They was able to
put pressure on the quarterback. They was able to stop
the run, and I thought that the thing that we
(19:33):
weren't able to do the last couple of games was
stopped to run and we were able to do that,
and that was the key to the test.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
Egene, how impressed have you been with Mary got safety
and the chess piece that they can use him as.
Speaker 6 (19:46):
Yeah, I see. What I like about him too, is
that I like the communication skills. First of all, he's
just tough. He's a tough dude, all right, but he's
a leader and I like the communication that goes around.
And also he also takes the responsibility. There was a
play in I believe it was the Cardinals game where
they had that test down where he would actually was
I think wants to cover that the tight end out
in the flat UH end up scoring a test down
(20:08):
and he takes responsibility. So I like that because I
think that you're not gonna be perfect, but wait, but
you got to be truthful and you gotta be honest.
And so I like his honesty. I like his superniss
and I like his toughness, and I think he's a
great choice coming from the Raiders that we picked up
and and in free agency that really is boastering our
UH defensive backfield And don't forget J. C. Horn is
(20:30):
a beast man. He's been playing well, dude, he's been
playing well, no doubt about it. He's I mean, he's
every bit of that guy. That man. He's a shutdown corner.
He really is a shutdown corner. He's all over, he's
like glue. And so with that here, here's here's my take.
But the I think that's one thing that we have
to go forward moving defensively. I think the front seven
(20:54):
and ability for our live backers to make those those tackles.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (20:58):
We we didn't see it against the Cardinals. We had
some mistackles, a number of mistackles, but against the Fulcans, uh,
they were able to make those tackles. And so I
think moving forward, as we moved forward, going with the
tackling by the linebackers, I think that really shows up
our defense, no doubt about it.
Speaker 2 (21:16):
The one thing that Horn has it done in his
first few years, and he doesn't have a ton of
interceptions are Eugene, but with the Wade Mike Jack is
playing Smith Wade?
Speaker 4 (21:25):
What are there?
Speaker 2 (21:26):
They might throw towards Horn a little more than they
used to. Are you expected more? I in ts now
from them from Horn.
Speaker 6 (21:31):
You know, I think it's gonna be the same It's
gonna be the same thing. I mean, everybody knows that
Jase Horn is that guy, and I know that offensive
coordinators don't want to stay stay away from him, and
so I think, you know, Jack and also Smith Wade,
they're gonna get a lot of bass thrown at their
thrown at their way because of who who who is
(21:53):
on the other side of the field. Don't forget I
mean Jakey Horn is. He's very very good. I mean,
he reminds me a little bit of a Nias Williams.
He got some uh uh uh, you know, just that
just that that toughness and that grit. And also he's
acceptibly fast too, so he has that steve via to
stick with the receivers to so I like him. But
(22:14):
he's gonna he's gonna be targeted, not targeted, he's gonna
be so God's gonna throw away from him.
Speaker 2 (22:19):
We're talking to Eugene Robinson about the Carolina Panthers defensive
performance shut out win over the Falcons. What a beautiful,
beautiful day that was for Panther fans. We'll talk a
little bit to me about what you noticed because you're
gonna this just in. You're gonna notice things that we
as fans do not notice with all your football experience
on that side of the ball. What did you see
(22:41):
from a Varo in that game? Schematically that what that
that led to the success?
Speaker 6 (22:47):
Yeah, I believe you. You jumped into that eight man
front to think about this. You've got the John Robinson
and he's that he's that guy, right, and so you
got to stop him at all costs. And so you've
got to have all hands on deck, and so you
want to make sure that you keep them correlled and
bunched up so that he can't get out, can't hit
those themes. And so typically that's eight man front. And
so we run that three four system, sometimes the four
(23:10):
to two system when we get into second and third down.
When we run that three fourth system, you got your guys,
your ed guys. They got to be intact, they got
to be in tecked. And I thought what we were
able to do was we were able to keep everything
bunched up. Nobody's getting really outside of you. Against the Cardinals. Uh,
(23:31):
the edges were the compromise. Guys got outside on the edges.
The first game they got outside the edges. This last game,
we kept it all bunched up, and that was the difference,
because now, if you keep it bunched up, you give
your inside linebackers a better chance to go ahead and
you to make that tackle. So I thought that was
well done. Well done by coach Zero, no doubt about it.
Speaker 4 (23:54):
Eugene. What do you think of t Mac at whydout
so far?
Speaker 6 (23:57):
I love him that I remember the first time. I
was like, oh man, I was looking for one of those,
you know, one of those edge rush's in the draft.
I was looking for one of jaylen Walker comes to mind.
I was like, man, we gotta get a defensive guy.
We need a linebacker. We won't want to We need
a Luke Keeakley type guy. We need that Thomas Davis dude.
And when we picked up t Mac, I was like, okay, well,
(24:20):
I don't know too much about him. And then I
saw he touched the rock. I'm like, hold up, wait
a minute, now, wait a minute, this dude is that guy.
He reminds me of Mosaim Mohammed, but a lenkier body,
but just that attitude that he thinks that nobody can
beat him. And then the catches that he hasn't made.
Let me say that he hasn't made. He's been able
(24:40):
to get his hands on a couple of footballs that
the defensive back had to strip it out of his hand. Uh,
because of good defensive back player. And I'm sitting here
like this, This dude is making it look really, really easy.
He's catching the ones that come to him, but the
ones that are really difficult were the guy climbing all
of you. He's about to pull those into Hi'm like, dude,
And and his route running to be that tall. He
(25:03):
plays like a big receiver. He plays like a big.
Speaker 4 (25:06):
Receiver, no doubt that ball.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
That ball Bryce threw up in the air and said,
I'm just gonna throw this like three feet above the
dB because I know my guy can get it. I
know you can and my guy can. Man, that was beautiful.
What do you think about Bryce? Speaking of Bryce Eugene,
I do think it's been a little uneven start to
the season, but I love the way he played. He
rallied us in the second half even in Arizona, even
(25:29):
though it fell short.
Speaker 4 (25:30):
And then last week it was one of those where, man,
you don't have.
Speaker 2 (25:33):
To try to do you know, they didn't have to
try to do too much crazy with the way the
defense is playing. What do you think of the way
Bryce's season has started.
Speaker 6 (25:40):
Well, I think, first of all, like when you know,
we looked at the first couple of games, and you know,
everybody's down on Bryce a little bit, I'm like, hey,
it's all stop. Stuff starts up front. It's the office line.
Your office line has to be intact, and they have
to have to be able to, uh protect the quarterback.
Because if they can't protect the quarterback, I don't care
who you have there, he's gonna get his head busted.
(26:01):
And so I thought that a funks. Bryce's success is
really predicated on the office of line. And I think
our officeive line was in flux, and we had a
couple of guys that got hurt, I think Corbett and Hunt,
uh and we had to bring in a couple of
guys to ballast and and Ks and so from that standpoint,
you got to have it secure. Now moving on that
(26:23):
last game and the last uh, you know, there's nothing
what is the last six quarters? Uh that Cardinal game
when we come back, officeive line was intact, and now
you can see Bryce go ahead and eat. Bryce is
really accomplished. You know, you'd think that that guy would
have a lot of bat at balls down because he's
a small guy. He finds those windows, and he finds
those windows, and he's able to go ahead and make
(26:43):
those throws. I'm gonna do. This guy is every bit.
And I'm telling you right now, the fact that he's
hooking up with t Mac like he did hooked up
with Adam Feeling, I think there's a special relationship that's
going on there that you you that they're gonna continue
to exploit because t Max is every bit of what
you need and a top receiver, a top was no
(27:03):
doubt about that. So and don't forget he got Sanders,
He's got a Tremaine. He's spreading the ball around. So
I like where we are right now. I like what
Bryce is at and I think that moving forward, you know,
I know it's only a couple of games, and I
know that the fact that we beat the Falcons thirty
to nothing that people may be man just waiting to see.
I think they got something going.
Speaker 4 (27:24):
Dude, Eugene.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
We marvel at the clips that come out of watching
Derek Brown just ragged all offensive Lineman at the line
of scrimmage. Now, from your perspective as a dB, when
you would watch the greats that you played with, whether
it's Cortes, Kennedy and Seattle, Reggie White and Green Bay,
did you have moments back there where you would watch
those guys like that just ragged all someone you would
(27:46):
just almost laugh at yourself.
Speaker 6 (27:48):
Absolutely, And this is what I liked about Due Brown.
I kept saying. I said, his job is the hardest
job because you got to take up two guys. You
got to be able to go ahead and bust two
guys up from off the linebackers. He's able to do that.
He's able to do that, and then he's able, like
you said, to rag down people. My goodness, dude, he
reminds me of one staff. He reminds me of Courtes Kennedy,
(28:10):
Reggie White, Air Donald. He reminds me of one of
the top guys. And that's why that's why who he
is who he is. He's just got it. He has
the body size, he got the mentality, and he had
the sobering judgment too. After that game when everybody was
all high talking about, yeah, you know, we blew these
guys out yeah, we're back the whole thing. He said, hey,
(28:30):
let's put another win together. Let's let's put another win together.
And I thought that was sobering judgment on them. Why
you're you know, really flying high. And I think it's
the right juster too, because you got to put another
game together against the Patriots. Let's go ahead and do that.
And that's what he was saying to it. And I
like his words.
Speaker 4 (28:48):
Oh you're right.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
He was walking off. They caught him walking off the
field and he was not celebrating. You know, you're smiling,
but he said, that's just one. We got more to get.
Speaker 6 (28:56):
So I love it.
Speaker 2 (28:57):
You mentioned the Patriots. What are your thoughts on this one?
I mean, obviously it's a winnable game, but you know
there's also that worry of some Panther fans got if
they beat themselves like they did early in the city,
you know, the first game and a half, you know
they could lose this game.
Speaker 4 (29:14):
What do you think of this matchup with New England?
Speaker 6 (29:16):
So one thing, I think the Patriot when it comes
to passing and when it comes to their defensive they're
given U two hundred and fifty six yards passing, they're
twenty ninth in the league. That really lends itself to Bryce,
and it lends itself to t mac Sanders command. It
(29:38):
lends themself to go ahead and really exploit that secondary
and export that linebackers, whether they're in zone or man.
I'm gonna go ahead and test that defense because when
you give up two hundred and fifty six, that means
you've got some explosive plays. You got some explosive plays
that's gonna be able to happen, and we're only passed
like one hundred and eighty six yards. I expect that
that's going to increase. I expect that coach Canalis is
(29:59):
going to have more passes in this game as opposed
to more runs or maybe maybe a better blend, maybe
fifty five forty five or maybe fifty fifty. I would
try to take advant of these guys are passing. Don't
forget on the other side. Got Drick May, I say,
blitz him, put people in the space, put people in
(30:21):
the face, dude, get in his face. And so moving
forward with coaches Gerald, I'm like, hey, I'm gonna put
as much pressure on his young quarterback as possible and
see if I can make it make some errand throws,
because all I need is a couple explosive plays. All
I need is a couple of things to get into
your head. And so I'm looking forward to that to happen.
Speaker 4 (30:40):
I like it.
Speaker 6 (30:41):
I like it.
Speaker 2 (30:41):
By the way, I want you to let everybody know
how versatile of a broadcaster Eugene has been over the
years in the Queen City and still is. We talked
about all those years on the Panther Radio Network. He's
with the boys on Panther Talk every Monday, but mornings
at eleven am. On weekdays he's on Charlotte Show, Arlotte
Today on w c N C Bone. He can end
(31:02):
up in a kitchen with a chef' you know what
I mean.
Speaker 4 (31:05):
He can end up.
Speaker 2 (31:06):
He can end up telling get telling people to back
the school stuff to buy. Eugene, you are the ultimate
versatile player in the media.
Speaker 4 (31:13):
Again, brother, Hey, we appreciate you. Man. Be good.
Speaker 6 (31:16):
Hey, I appreciate you. Guys.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
All right, take it easy. He got his Eugene Robinson.
Some people taking a backbone by his energy. Somebody say,
are you what do you knew? He That's what I'm saying.
Somebody says, wait, Usually usually Mac and Mac and Eugeneill
actually sing together at times. It didn't happen this time. Blindside.
Chris is like, Eugene sounds a little overcaffeinated. No, that's
like normal. I don't think there's another speed for that man.
(31:38):
I mean, yeah, I feel like I'm lacking energy when
he comes on.
Speaker 4 (31:41):
Did you Usually? Usually you start yelling with him at
some point.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
Today I thought you were more reserved yet, because it's
about more than one win. It's about getting the next winn.
Good dB, We're on and on the next week. All right,
we're on the New England about the comparisons to Reggie
White and Cortez Kennedy.
Speaker 4 (31:57):
Wow, that's strong. That's very strong.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
As he played with and those guys were legends, real
real quick, because we've got the audio coming up, right,
the uh fun audio from the Panthers and the Patriots
coming up. You got to hear some of this stuff.
There's a really good jac Horn speech coming up bone
among other things. But one thing that we're not playing
(32:20):
is did you hear the trash talk he had about
Drake London to t Mac on the sideline? It was glorious,
he said, he said, I got five in a car seat.
He was talking to Team mag about talking to teamg
about Drake Lone. He said, I got five in a
car se T Macs like, I like that.
Speaker 4 (32:36):
Man, go out there and do that. But anyway, man,
we got horn. What else we got?
Speaker 2 (32:40):
We got horn, trash talk, bony, We've got we got
all kinds of good stuff. Bryce, Oh my god, David
Newton and Bryce, this is hilarious. I believe this is
Newt's best run in ever with a Panther player. And
Drake May did he compliment JJ Janssen or did he
insult JJ Janssen? And why is the opposing team's quarterback
(33:04):
bringing up JJ? You will hear You'll hear it all
coming up next. This is some fun stuff you gotta
hear at Sports Radio ninety two to seven WFZ.
Speaker 4 (33:22):
Yeah, he's a different playing up here.
Speaker 7 (33:24):
You're going back to Charlotte beat would have been different,
but you know, going against the team that grew up watching.
You grew up here and for and a lot of
great memories in that stadium back in Making America. So yeah,
it's a little different, but at the same time, it's
still you know, just as another week a week in
the NFL, and you know, the same players that I
grew up, you know, playing for besides the longest snappers
still there.
Speaker 4 (33:43):
So that is amazing.
Speaker 2 (33:47):
Drake May at some point we'll have to play the
cliff or he talks all about being a fan in
twenty fifteen. You know, he grew up here in Charlotte
being a Panther fan. It's not truly cool, but this
one is amazing. Bone He's said, it's not like I'm
playing against the guys I rooted for as a kid,
except that long snapper. That's got to be a rare
(34:10):
moment though, where the opposing quarterback and oppressor mentions the
long snapper.
Speaker 4 (34:14):
I mean, I guess that's cool for JJ.
Speaker 2 (34:16):
Or not he was he saying it back in a
respectful way, like you know, one of the greats of
that era still around, or is he saying yeah, but
gets the long snapper who told as hell man. I
feel like it is a sign of respect, though because
he now he didn't say JJ's name, that would have
been the ultimate sign of respect. Yes, but I feel
like the fact that he knew that JJ was still
(34:39):
there and was a part of the twenty fifteen team
he loved as a kid, like that's kind of cool.
Speaker 4 (34:44):
Like, I mean, he at least knows of JJ.
Speaker 2 (34:46):
The fact that he even knows the long snapper on
the other team is notable, right, That is so.
Speaker 4 (34:51):
Damn funny, man, It is hilarious.
Speaker 2 (34:54):
But anyway, JJ has a shout out, Baby, the opposeding
team's quarterback is thinking to you this week during game week,
J's gonna offer him Checkers tickets. He's shout out a
lot of people asking about j T Sanders injury because
of what Eugene was talking about him. Joe Person did
report Bone that it's probably gonna be a few weeks
(35:16):
on him with that high ankle sprain, and then yesterday
Dave Canal said week to weeks, it feels very unlikely
for this week. Tacto did say, like you said earlier,
Bone in his presser, he did say the calf injury, Hey,
I'm gonna play. They had to kind of ask follow ups,
but eventually he's kind of like, yeah, I expect to
play this week, excell.
Speaker 4 (35:36):
We don't know.
Speaker 2 (35:36):
One thing I do know is that Mitchell Evans will
get his one catch? Could he get to this week
if JT doesn't want to go overboard. I'm betting on
his one catch. I want to see James Mitchell get
some targets this week.
Speaker 6 (35:48):
Man.
Speaker 2 (35:48):
I like I like what I saw from him as
a pass catcher. All right, let's do this. Let's do
some more sounds. That's a very good sound right there,
Drake talking about JJ. But let's get to some more sounds.
Let's go on the panther side of things here, bone man,
and let's start with my favorite, my favorite clip of
everything from yesterday.
Speaker 4 (36:07):
David Newton, who will often have.
Speaker 2 (36:10):
These very weird, uncomfortable but yet hilarious interactions with the players,
had maybe his best yet with Bryce Young over the
whole question of is Bryce working on his sliding? He
had that ugly slide on the other day, and here's
how it went.
Speaker 6 (36:26):
Dodgers the sliding party.
Speaker 4 (36:28):
Then, oh, that wash very shady, very shady. You still
look a little sluggish on that. And you've been appreciating
that was a nice word I used. Sluggish.
Speaker 8 (36:44):
Yeah, trying to do whatever it takes to me clipping side.
Every takes me doing whatever it teats.
Speaker 4 (36:57):
That's guy and Sheena.
Speaker 2 (36:58):
We're not holding back on that or that he said
to the reason they were saying that shady is It
started with them asking Bryce about your favorite baseball team.
I don't I don't know what the context was. I'm
guessing playoffs coming up or something. Yeah, he said, that's
why Dodgers is the first thing you heard. David Newton
took the opportunity to say, I know you weren't on
a baseball slide, and that's why they said it was shady.
(37:21):
The video and I think it was it. Sheena Sheena
right tweeted it out. You got to see the video
because it's even better because you could see that Bryce
is so amused by David Newton's persistence to keep asking
about the sliding, and then he hits him with a
big dog at the end there.
Speaker 4 (37:41):
That's gotta be the first time Newt called big dog.
Oh man, that was that was great.
Speaker 2 (37:46):
You took new took the senior grod to get to
the slide, didn't He saw the opportunity there and he
took it. He did, and then he just kept with
it and then he told him yours is sluggish. And
then he was proud of himself because he used the
word sluggish.
Speaker 4 (37:57):
I'm like, you're a writer. The words sluggish should not
get a pat on the back for you using it?
Speaker 2 (38:02):
Do you think because Bryce was kind of laughing about it,
like he was even looking over in the cameras direction.
It was either I think Sheen or of Ashtei and
like kind of laughing like he like they were all
in on the joke about how goofy this was. Do
you think players find David Newton funny? Do you think
he's annoying? I mean, I know the answer from a
fan standpoint, y'all, don't need to tell me. Probably depends
(38:24):
on the player in the situation. I'm sure some find
of annoying and some probably get a kick out. I
don't know, it depends on probably the player in whatever
he's talking. I think Bryce thought that was funny, but
he also probably thought it was a little weird, a
little persistent, So it did go a roundabout way to
get to the it did, and then he kept at it.
Speaker 6 (38:38):
Man.
Speaker 4 (38:39):
With that said, though, you should work on that sliding
though to.
Speaker 3 (38:43):
Him one once every week.
Speaker 5 (38:45):
So I think for him he probably has more comfortability
with him where another player a coach, as we remember
do Staley, Oh, he's not a huge fan of him.
Speaker 2 (38:55):
It might be different, that's true Duds never did the
presser after that one. By the way, David David says
JJ and Drake may need to do a jersey swap
after yeah, baby soccer style. Let's do it, all right,
let's see here we got okay. So David Newton features
prominently in this one too. Bo, I'm starting to realize
(39:17):
we wouldn't have near the same panther content wasn't for Newt,
and we are now on the uspn team Bony with him.
All right, let's do this. So they're asking about Tmax.
Great catch up in the air high above Billy Bowman.
It was just it's just such a such an asset
that a player can go get it like that, And
they were talking about this and then Newton gets involved.
Speaker 4 (39:37):
It's pretty funny.
Speaker 6 (39:39):
Uh.
Speaker 9 (39:39):
You know, I how to choice route one to the slant,
but you know he walked me off and I had
to go outside and you know, Bryce just through the
ball where only I can get it in. Like I said,
I gotta go convert on third down and go make
a play.
Speaker 4 (39:52):
Did you think we're got to get it or were
you like, WHOA, I got a really.
Speaker 6 (39:56):
Cap for this?
Speaker 3 (39:57):
Oh No, I always think I'm trying to get the ball.
Speaker 9 (40:00):
But uh well that kind of that played was designed
for me, so I knew I was getting the ball
one way or the other. But uh yeah, like I said,
Bryce put in a good spot and you know, I
had to just go make play.
Speaker 4 (40:10):
It sounds like you got a second were jump in
there or something. You jumped in them and I kind
of went higher in this.
Speaker 3 (40:17):
No no, no, this ain't Mario.
Speaker 4 (40:18):
This ain't Mario.
Speaker 3 (40:19):
Man, this ain't Mario.
Speaker 4 (40:21):
Dope.
Speaker 3 (40:22):
I just you know, I just I saw the ball.
You see ball, get ball, and that's all I did.
Speaker 4 (40:26):
But that's what Tommy called it.
Speaker 6 (40:27):
Mario?
Speaker 4 (40:28):
Who who tell me?
Speaker 3 (40:30):
Yeah, I don't know. He played too of his video games.
Speaker 6 (40:33):
Do do.
Speaker 4 (40:36):
Same, Mario.
Speaker 2 (40:39):
It is like we're amazed. You could tell we're not
We're not athletes, right, I have old buddy in the media.
We're all amazed by that play. He is kind of
like I just went up and got it, you know
what I mean, Like it was easy to him. Bryce
is kind of like that doesn't surprise me, Like, but
we're all like, oh my god, how'd you jump so.
Speaker 4 (40:56):
And go get it?
Speaker 2 (40:58):
But anyway, Yeah, and apparently Tommy Tremble used the Mario
line before uh tea at the stadium.
Speaker 4 (41:04):
They need to use Mario sound effects when he does that.
I like that. That's not a bad call. At money
you can do for that.
Speaker 2 (41:09):
I mean, they also should bring back Chubachu. But you
be running everywhere. But who am I?
Speaker 4 (41:13):
You know what I mean? Who am I?
Speaker 2 (41:14):
Panthers to program your sound effects? But damn that we're
missing out all right. This guy says David Newton is
like an IRS agent working at ESPN. Another guy says
David Newton a classic Panther hater. He used to give
Cam a hard time too. I never now he did.
(41:35):
There was some negative vibes with Cam. I just I
don't think he means the harm that fans think he does.
He's a good guy. He's definitely, it really is. I
think he's I don't think he realizes the way he's
coming across.
Speaker 4 (41:49):
No, you know what I mean. It's more of the
it's malicious.
Speaker 2 (41:52):
It's more of the line of questions at times, rather
than like who he is as an individual.
Speaker 4 (41:56):
Uh HP.
Speaker 2 (41:57):
Brody says, Korbes and Olsen definitely were not fans of
Darren Newsom. Who I don't know, he said, I think
he means David Newton. Oh, David, he said, Darren Newton,
Am I missing out? That's like a combination of like
Darren Gant and David Newton maybe I don't know, and
then somebody else in.
Speaker 4 (42:15):
There I don't know.
Speaker 2 (42:15):
All right, last clip here of a fun audio clips.
I'll say it was a fun day with clips. Whether
it's the Patriots. I also enjoyed Mike Rabel admitting I
watched two hours of Panther kickoffs? Who got him worried?
FITZI got him worried with him? Darren to kicks Nobil.
He's probably out there trying to return the kicks right now. Last,
but not Lease Bone, Panthers put out their rewind, which
(42:36):
is really good, like miked up, you know, stuff from
each game and they're they're actually really fun to listen
to when we win, right like Sunday.
Speaker 6 (42:43):
J C.
Speaker 2 (42:44):
Hornbone not only told t Maak I got five in
a car seat talking about Drake London, but he also
when Tuba jumps in at the end here this is
the part of the pregame speech.
Speaker 4 (42:54):
Here Bone, it's before the game, right now, right now,
don't wait to be.
Speaker 6 (43:08):
Right now.
Speaker 3 (43:10):
Ready, our ability to go.
Speaker 2 (43:19):
Hopefully you could hear that. I mean, I know it
might be a little dice. He probably had turned the
car radio up, but I got goosebumps. I can't get
enough of that stuff.
Speaker 6 (43:26):
Man.
Speaker 4 (43:26):
I love those intense, fiery speeches.
Speaker 6 (43:29):
And J. C.
Speaker 2 (43:30):
Hornbone is coming to his own more and more every year,
every day as a leader of that team. I'm old
enough to remember when people question when he signed that
contract back will he worth the money or not? Remember
that back in the day, you know, earlier this year
to remember, oh you are God. He's off to a
great start to the season. Him and Mike Jack both
and then Smith Wade joined the party this week with
a healthy Derek Brown. It makes you feel at least
(43:53):
better about the defense. We've got something happening here. I
won't get too much in what's going on at linebacker sometime,
but we got there's something. This thing's being improved, no doubt.
When we come back, it's know your enemy. What's up
with the Pats? What are they good at?
Speaker 4 (44:06):
What do they struggle with?
Speaker 2 (44:07):
We're gonna do a little spy in Mac on New
England sports radio WFZ.
Speaker 8 (44:12):
Everyone takes me doing whatever it teats
