Owen's Mack and Bow on your radio.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Babe's listen to my freeing man. Posh, Come on, posh,
this in my freem team. Bone, what's up the fun?
I can't go to work without listening to Mack and Bone.
Do a lot.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
Sports Radio ninety two seven wfn Z. We've been talking
about the Panthers. Camp starts today ten o'clock first practice.
Josie Jewel will not be there. Man released because of
concussion issues. We wish the big fellow, the best man,
but this is this is tough for a position group

(00:44):
we were already worried about. But we talked plenty of Panthers.
We railed on the Big Ten in this horrible damn
Big ten playoff idea where they're completely on an island
on this damn idea. But now, Bone man, it's time
to focus on the ACC. Tom Lougan Bill joined us
at A twenty five to talk about the ACC and
the state of the ACC and preview a bunch of

(01:06):
the teams that we love around these parts. But right now,
let's start the ACC conversations with Wes Durham. This man's name,
this man's voice is synonymous with ACC Athletics West Durham
ACC Network joining us as ACC Media Days move into
day two here in Charlotte, Wes.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
How you been, man, what's going on?

Speaker 4 (01:27):
I'm great, guys, It's good to be with you, and
I know you're reveling in the Summer League title for
the Hornet.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
Probably way too much, I will.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
Tell you now. Hey, knock and bone. Seriously, Yeah, con
Tin Nipple. Now he's wired, he's ready to go. That
guy is man. He's a killer. I'm excited to see him,
I really am. I thought that was a great pick
for Charlotte, and then I'm always happy for PJ.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Hall.

Speaker 4 (01:52):
It's one of my favorite players that I've had the
chance to get to know a little bit in the
last decade or so. So I like where they I
like where they're going, and uh, you know an he
toddles a good title, just as The Next Day won
it last year.

Speaker 5 (02:05):
We put together a documentary on the summer Will you
voice it over for us? We're looking for that broadcasting
gramatas that you.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
I don't know Sam does the games. I don't want to.
I don't want to get in Sam or EC's business.
So yeah, I mean, let those guys let those guys
have that moment. They don't need me, they don't need me.
I'm probably tied to the other market too much for that.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
Oh yeah, that is true.

Speaker 5 (02:26):
It works is talking a lot about the summerwey title here.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
They're worried, they're worried, sick.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
All right, let's uh, let's talk about the common ground
we have west, which is ACC sports, a CC football
su Okay, So what did you think Jim Phillips yesterday
kind of had his State of the Sport. I gotta
be honest, I think it went way better than Tony
Petiti's because I thought he was flailing trying to defend
that playoff land that no one else likes. What were

(02:55):
what were some of your takeaways from Jim Phillips yesterday?
I mean, he came out on record supporting, you know,
the five AQ plan with however many at large as
which we expected him to do.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
What were your takeaways.

Speaker 4 (03:06):
I'm not surprised at all about that. I think the
other part about it is I think you could since
from the commissioner's comments that he feels like the landscape
of this league is about as good as it's been
in a few years, right, And maybe since he took
office in all honesty, because remember he takes office just
out of the pandemic, a lot of unknown about how
we're going to get this done. Then all of a sudden,

(03:27):
the you know, the landscape starts to vibrate a little bit,
the Oklahoma Texas thing, and then all of a sudden
Stanford caller here, Simu and tow, you know, things of
that nature. Then we got massive nil we got massive
movement in the portal. Now, we had the house settlement,
we had the lawsuits of Florida State and Clemson, and
now it just feels like things have calmed down. Now.

(03:51):
You know, there are a lot of people, I'm sure
you guys have had several on the show who've talked
about this is the part where it was going to
calm down before maybe five years from now, where it's
arts to bulb up again. So let's enjoy the Let's
enjoy the peace and quiet if we can here for
a little bit. As it relates to the CFP, Tony
Petiti is, as the old Campbell University basketball coach Billy

(04:13):
Lee used to say, Tony Petitis in a sword fight
with a pocket knife. Right now, because here's the problem
the Big ten is on the island about the four automatics,
but the SEC has conceded it. Now. Is that a
riff between Petiti and sank No, that's thanky understanding that

(04:36):
for the college football playoff to be valued by the
American sporting public, and the American sporting public is the
American sporting public watches the Super Bowl. That's one hundred
million people, right. College football fans want a playoff. They're
getting the playoff. They like the twelve, they're going to
love sixteen. They're going to be there every time. That's
a group that last year Ohio State and Notre Dame

(04:58):
had about thirty two to thirty four million people watch
that game if you count all the digital Tony Petiti
needs to understand that if you don't create some semblance
of fairness in this college football playoff, people are going
to be skeptical of the process. Right. They're already skeptical
in many ways. Florida State people were way out there
a couple of years ago and should have been. But

(05:18):
you have to create what is a fairness like the NFL. Look,
the teams may not be your team may not be great,
but you at least think there's fairness in the playoff process.
Right in this playoff system, you can't just go automatically
award four bids. The Big Ten, they've only been a
handful of years. The Big Tens had four teams that
were capable of going to the college football playoffs. To

(05:41):
do five to eleven makes perfect sense, and it gives
everybody a chance. The problem with the automatic bid is
it presents a perception that no matter how good your
team is, they still might not get in unless they're
in one of these two leagues. I know these guys
are holding the cars. I understand the memo of understanding
and all the other things Mack and Bone, but reality

(06:02):
is this, there has to be some sort of equitable
buy in across the board. And that includes the fans,
that includes the media, and oh yeah, it includes the
guys that wrote the document Wes.

Speaker 5 (06:14):
The biggest offseason story in college football is in the
ACC that's in Chapel Hill, where shocking Lee Bill Belichick
will lead the Heels out Week one against TCU on ESPN.
It's been such an unknown to try to figure out
day and day out what they may look like in
the year one, But what are you expecting from the

(06:34):
Belichick led Heels this year in sort of how they'll
look with Belichick as a college coach.

Speaker 4 (06:40):
You know, I think it's going to be interesting to say.
I think you've nailed the part about you know, the
mystery is the strategy. What are they going to be built? Like?
What's pretty Kitchen's going to do on offense? What'll Steve
Belichick d defensively? Unfortunately, I'm going to be at their
ACC Network football tour stop in mid August. I'm excited
to be there with Roddy Jones and EJ. Manuel and
get a first look at him right as much as

(07:02):
we can glean from a practice session about what they
might do. I think one of the things that has
to be decided here is where's the quarterback position going
to fall? Is Max Johnson going to be able to
get back in the mix? Geo Lopez, the transfer from
South Alabama is a dual threat guy. You know, They've
got the freshman from East for scythe who's a talented kid.
But then they want to wait a little bit. What

(07:23):
are their strength and weakness is going to be. I'm
going to tell you I think Jordan Ship's gonna play
a big role in what they are offensively. I just
think he's a guy who's got enough talent to be
a duel threat. I think he can play slot, I
think he can play X. In terms of the receiving game.
I think there's a lot of ways you can use him,
and I think Freddy Kitchens will find that. I think
they're going to be pretty well coached defensively, and I

(07:44):
know that's been a sore spot for Carolina fans the
last couple of years. I've never seen a Belichick team
that wasn't good on defense, though. It's just that simple.
So I'm going to take that one for granted and
say they're going to be improved and maybe probably pretty
good on that side of the ball. But let's be honest,
Mac and bone schedules friendly, right, they don't play some
of the big hammers in the ACC. A lot of

(08:06):
people are saying eight and four. I don't know if
I'll press eight just yet, but I certainly think they
can be seven and five the TCU game. You know, look,
TCU has lost a lot of talent, but they've got
a talented quarterback in Josh Hoover, so that that defense However,
it's going to be constructed three four would be my guest,
maybe three three five in Baseball Nation. I think they're

(08:27):
going to get tested on Night one. For sure.

Speaker 5 (08:29):
It's gonna be fun to watch, it really is. And
that schedule is a land of opportunity that I will
definitely say that westerm is with us ACC Network.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
You know, it's ACC exploring the.

Speaker 4 (08:39):
West, the land of opportunity? Are we going with Lewis
and Clark on some deal here? What the hell you
got going on?

Speaker 5 (08:45):
I probably laid it on a little thick there, didn't
I probably? All right, let's talk about it. He just
named the documentary series for un see on who I think?

Speaker 2 (08:54):
There you go, Jorge nutsen Is will she approved that?

Speaker 4 (08:56):
Though?

Speaker 2 (08:57):
I don't know? All right? I want to wow, okay.

Speaker 4 (09:00):
Got six minutes.

Speaker 5 (09:00):
Then it's a little while. It take a little while,
all right. I want to talk about NC State. That's
not one of the teams.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
You know, you're probably gonna be asked about in most
of you know of your interviews this week. But I'm
very intrigued by the situation. You know, we got a
lot of State fans here in this market, Like, do
you think the pressure internally. Lord knows that there's been
State fans on Pac Pride for a couple of years
now that have just kind of been like, I've just
seen what Dorn has to offer enough already, but last

(09:27):
year was such a disappointment after they spent all that
money on that roster. I mean, is this year two
new coordinators, know Tony Gibson a lean on. Is this
a year that could be Dave Doran's last or is
that overly dramatic?

Speaker 4 (09:40):
Do you think that might be a touch dramatic? Although
I think certainly you know Dave has had a terrific
career at mc State. I know Wolfpac fans want to
see the double figure and the big win, right and
playing the championship game and do all those things, and
deservedly so. I think this is a talented team. I'm
looking forward to being there on opening night when they

(10:01):
host East Carolina because I know how well they all
get along. I mean, it's going to be I think
it's a fascinating team to study because they are going
to be very quiet in the preseason, to your point,
and not a lot of discussion about them, A lot
of conversation about Carolina and all those things, and you
know Darien Mensa and Duke and things like that, and

(10:22):
you know Duke and Carolina I think's on the fringe
of that group behind Clemson and Miami.

Speaker 1 (10:28):
But NC State's the team I think deserves to be in.

Speaker 4 (10:31):
That conversation with SMU and Louisville and Georgia Tech and
potentially the Blue Devils. But I like CJ. Bailey. I
like the process they go through as a program. I
think sometimes when you have years that are really disappointing,
you have to understand and I would point to NC
State and say, look, injuries played a major role in it.

(10:52):
Player performance played a major role in it. And now
think about who you're bringing back. Bailey's completely comfortable. Justin
Joe Lee is a talent, a talented tight end. I
think that guy's a massive weapon in this league this year.
I think defensively, you don't have the brands, but you
have players who have played football for you, and you
did a nice job in the portal. You've done excellent

(11:13):
job recruiting. You guys know that in the state of
North Carolina. In C State's been you know, at the
top of the top now for for several years. And
they get really good players consistently. They don't get them all,
but they get really good ones consistently. So yeah, I'm
encouraged by NC State, and I think Dave's long worksheet
there of time and building that program to the right

(11:34):
kind of temperament Mac and Bone is a big reason
why I'm excited about it.

Speaker 5 (11:38):
Wes, I think we're all expecting Duke to be good again.
Are we going to find out just how good they
might be? Weeks two and three Illinois at home and
then in emotions one?

Speaker 4 (11:50):
What about week one?

Speaker 5 (11:53):
We check here, I'm trying to see you look, don't
find out on them minute now, I'm looking here. It's
a it's elon there. Yeah, you know I did over
what got you on there? So the first three games.

Speaker 4 (12:06):
And the mighty Alma Mater goes in their boys from
Block EU up to Wallaswage Stadium.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
That's that's.

Speaker 5 (12:11):
My wife saw the matter too, like yours West, She's
gonna be unhappy with Bone.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
Tw I'm gonna tell.

Speaker 4 (12:15):
Her that's there. You go right right at the door. Look,
Manny's done a terrific job. I mean, you can't say
enough about the work he did in there, you know,
in the last couple of years, right, And I'm excited
to see kind of how this plays out for him
and Mensa seems to be a great fit for what

(12:35):
Jonathan Brewer wants to.

Speaker 1 (12:37):
Do on offense.

Speaker 4 (12:38):
And if that's the case, they could be really interesting
because here's the trick. They've been pretty good on defense. Guys,
They've been pretty good. I mean, you think about it,
they've not been real bad on defense. They Manny was
able to kind of correlate a lot of the stuff
Elcho had done and they produced last year. The question
is what kind of offensive punch can Mensa give them.

(13:00):
I'm going to say I think Mensa could be a
really good fit for him. I think his tape is impressive.
I think they've got consistency and continuity in the offensive line,
which is going to help them. They've done a really
good job there and it started with Elko, Mack and
Bone of getting grad transfers and getting the right guys.
And I think that says a lot about not just
what Mike did in his two years, but certainly the

(13:22):
start Manni's off too as well.

Speaker 3 (13:24):
No doubt, great stuff. We always love catching up when
you talking ball with you Wes. Appreciate you, enjoy the week,
and you'll be calling games before we can. Before we
know it, Man, we can't wait. Thank you, brothers.

Speaker 4 (13:34):
Stay well, guys, always fun good good West.

Speaker 5 (13:37):
There you go, West Durham, acc Network Bone. I really
am bullish on Duke to Bony, I don't mean too.
That's the last thing you want to hear. You don't
want to hear that during March when I say it,
you probably don't.

Speaker 2 (13:50):
Want to hear it.

Speaker 6 (13:50):
Now.

Speaker 2 (13:51):
I don't ever want to hear it.

Speaker 3 (13:52):
But I just think Manny, the talent on defense and
the fact that they have a like listen, is he working?
Should he be the highest pay like nil quarterback along
with Carson back in the country. We could debate that,
but just like the upgrade of him over Murphy last year,
I don't think people are talking about it enough.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
Man.

Speaker 5 (14:11):
They got a couple of the best defensive players in
the country at their position again and the Rivers and
Terry Moore, and they've got a linebacker that's sort of
gonna be the next guy there in Trey Freeman, who's
also backed. So there's some known guys on defense and
many das doesn't need a whole lot necessarily to make
the defense better. Also, look out for this freshman linebacker

(14:32):
named Bradley Gompers. He's another guy that's there in the middle.
I just like to say the name Gompers. That's the
line that's gotta be a neck roll guy.

Speaker 4 (14:41):
Right.

Speaker 5 (14:42):
If you're most name is Gompers, you gotta wear a
neck role.

Speaker 3 (14:45):
Oh yeah, I would be thoroughly disappointed if I don't
see mister Gompers sporting a good old fashioned necks. That's
a good call.

Speaker 5 (14:54):
When we come back, we continue the ACC preview talk.
We'll talk more about the local teams. Aby fourid to
state Duke, what are they gonna be? So much to
talk about. Tom Louganville, also of the ACC Network and
ESPN NEX Sports Radio ninety two seven WFND.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
My friend.

Speaker 1 (15:21):
To the.

Speaker 3 (15:28):
True Champion is back. The champ is here, Baby, the
Champs here. Tom lougan Bill rising early in those champions
hours and headed this week all over there to be
a part of ACC Network's coverage of ACC media Days.
He obviously will be a huge part of ACC football

(15:48):
coverage on ACC Network again this year, as was our
previous guest, the Great Westurnham and Tom Lougan Bill joins
us to talk some ACC football. Lugus, it is football time, baby,
how you feeling.

Speaker 1 (16:01):
I'm feeling good? Manage it. We're almost done with talking season.
We can start getting down to actually playing the games.

Speaker 5 (16:07):
One hundred percent of the three of us you played
the game. All we do is talk to game.

Speaker 2 (16:11):
It is true. We never had a playing.

Speaker 5 (16:13):
Season, so yeah, we don't really know how to play
football time.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
I want to put that out there right now.

Speaker 3 (16:20):
Unless we fire up Madden, it ain't playing season for us, really.
But God, we love talking about football, and so when
we at west On, so we we didn't talk about
Clemson to west all right, So we certainly have to
ask you about the Clemson Tigers. Are you on board
with them as like one of the top two or
three teams in the country and as by far the

(16:45):
best in the accor or no, where are you at
on Clemson?

Speaker 5 (16:49):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (16:49):
I think that their roster right now supports that. When
you look at how this thing has developed and been
built over the last couple of years, you know, you know,
Davo has not cave to the pressure of doing what
everybody else is doing, and he's stuck to the foundation
of you know, evaluate, recruit, retain, and utilize nil within

(17:12):
your own roster to reward performance, and in doing so
you minimize departures to the transfer portal. So he's been
able to maintain a foundation and a core group of
players that have stuck around. I mean, we've seen the
maturity and the growth of cave Klubnik. Those two freshman

(17:32):
wide receivers that came in a year ago have an
opportunity to be outstanding, and they joined Antonio Williams. Until
you've got a great receiving court. Two to three years ago,
we were talking about what a drop punts in it
had at wide out, and now on defense you're talking
about potentially having the first defensive tackle on the first
defensive end off the board on the same defensive front,

(17:53):
and you bring in Tom Allen, which I think was
a huge difference addition from a coordinator. So I think
they're clearly the class of the acc and they have
kind of slowly but surely, despite all of the pressure
to deviate from what's got them to this point, they

(18:14):
kind of stayed the course and as a result, they've
got themselves a really good football team.

Speaker 5 (18:19):
Tom last year as the summer went along a lot
more people that we talked to. They brought up SMU
as a team to watch out for, a fringe top
twenty five team that could be a factor. Sure enough,
they go ahead and have a great year, make the
playoffs this year. I look at it as Georgia Tech
right now is kind of a fringe top twenty five team.
How much are you expecting the Yevo Jackets to be

(18:42):
a factor in the ACC and how good could they
be this year as we try to figure out those
teams behind Clemson.

Speaker 1 (18:49):
Yeah, I think they're a significant fact. This is the
best team that Brett Kids had said he took the
head coaching job in an interrupt capacity a couple of
years back. The schedule finally doesn't crush them. I mean,
this was a program that you know, having to played
George out of conference, and then they would go schedule
Old Miss and Tulane. It's like, what are you doing? Yeah,

(19:10):
you know, you got to give yourself a shot. I
think they got one of the best quarterback running back
tandems in all the college football and Hams King and
Jamal Haynes, and then you know, you lose Eric Singleton
to the transfer portal. But then they go out and
bring in some replacements to wide receiver that I think
are are going to help them not skip a beat,
and it's probably the best team that they've had up

(19:31):
front in terms of competitive depths on both sides of
the ball. I think that they're going to be a
tough out for everybody that they play, and I think
that's what's what's kind of interesting about in the league
this year is because of the transit, the transfer portal,
because of the transactional nature of what this sport has become,

(19:52):
it's thinned the herd, so now everybody has gotten more
talented and you can flip your roster pretty quickly, so
the margin of error becomes razor fin And I think
what you can expect to see is that we get
into the season and there's some parody and some competitive
balance top to bottom. You're gonna see one possession game

(20:12):
and it's gonna come down to the teams that can
manage the game at the end, don't hurt themselves, no penalty,
no turnovers, and can win those one possession games, because
I think you're going to see a lot of them
in this league.

Speaker 2 (20:24):
Tom Lougan Bill ACC network. ESPN joined us.

Speaker 5 (20:27):
It's Tom Lugs, but it's just a thing we have
going on. Was I too formal? Thomas Louganville joins us
ACC network sounds like a senator here on the Mack
and Bone Show. Lugus, I think my guess is SMU
is the second best team in the conference. I like
the fact they get Miami and Louisville at home. I'm

(20:49):
kind of writing off the Death Valley game and but
they get Miami and Louisville home.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
Do you would you agree with that? Or am I
am I too skeptical of Miami? Or or am I
dissin Louisville?

Speaker 6 (21:01):
Like?

Speaker 2 (21:01):
Who do you have as the second best team?

Speaker 1 (21:03):
So I listen just about SMU. I think the biggest
challenge for SMU isn't talent, isn't the team that they
have it. Do they have the maturity to handle an
entire offseason of everybody patting them on the back and
tell them they've arrived? I think that's the psychological challenge
of RTT Lashly and that coaching staff is how do

(21:27):
you maintain that ship? How do you maintain that hunger
because you're not sneaking up on anybody. This time around,
you're going from being the hunter to the hunted, and
the schedule's got incrementally hard. Their non conference has Baylor
and TCU. Both of those teams are potential eight win
teams out of the Big twelve. And then you add Clemson,

(21:47):
Miami and Louisville. Now that's an entirely different schedule than
the one they had a year ago. I think with
Kevin Jennings, I believe the best tight end room in
college football, a bit of a retooled defense, They're gonna
be good. There's no doubt. I think they're gonna be good.
I think it's probably a toss up between them and

(22:07):
Miami in relationship to the you know, second best team.
I think that's really difficult to projectorate now because you
know what if Syracuse hits on another quarterback. You know
they're coming off of a ten win season last year,
and you know, we don't know what's gonna happen with
Florida State. We I think North Carolina is a mystery.

(22:29):
Virginia texts a mystery. The team that and I'm gonna
say it because it always happens. The team you're gonna
have to look out for is NC State because nobody's
talking about them, and they almost got their entire roster back,
and the quarterback is a dude. CJ. Bailey is a player.
And what always happens guys with NC State when nobody's

(22:49):
talking about.

Speaker 2 (22:51):
That is true.

Speaker 3 (22:52):
That's the best door in seasons, right when people aren't
expecting things from them like we were last year. See,
that's crazy to me. He's gonna wake wolf Pac mac
Bony looses go away a couple because.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
I have Main b out of his chair one interview
and he's standing up all right.

Speaker 5 (23:06):
It's funny because I was being negative. I was asking
Wes Durham, like, could this be Dorian's last year? Like
I'm really worried about the loss of Tony Gibson. But
you don't think you don't think State fans should be No.

Speaker 1 (23:18):
I think that they are quietly just hanging out, looming
under the radar, right where they want to be. You know,
almost their entire rosters back in and they're two keep
on both sides of the ball, and nobody's talking about it,
and so I think that's good for them. I actually
think that the shift and the coaching staff could end

(23:39):
up being a positive to get some fresh ideas and
fresh blood in there. They're they're really really intriguing to me.
I think the other thing that everybody's keeping a close
eye on, guys is Florida State. I mean, for obvious reasons,
they are the They are the poster boy for what
can happen if you make bad decisions in the transfer portal.
And the biggest question you have with them is you

(24:01):
just took a quarterback in the portal that at times
can be very very exciting and is shown to be
very problematic for opposing defenses. But the moment things haven't
gone well for him, he quits, So what's he going
to do now? And I'm very intrigued to see how
that works out of Florida State.

Speaker 5 (24:23):
Since you're talking about State, we know you like them.
If you had to pick one of Duke or Carolina
to have a better season, which direction would you go
in right now? Although I understand that the unc stuff
it's hard to project right now.

Speaker 1 (24:37):
Yeah, they're difficult to project. I would say Duke. I
think this Duke has such a solid foundation of sustained
success over the last few years, making quality mose in
the transfer portal, developing players. And I think at a
place like Duke, you know, you don't have as many
transfer portal out of the door problems because a lot

(24:59):
of the those kids are coming from families as the
kid decided, I think I want to transfer. No you're not.
And so I think Manny Diaz has the luxury sometimes
with red shirt sophomores, red shirt juniors, red shirt seniors,
and that's becoming more and more rare because of the portal,
and they don't deal with that as much. So you've

(25:20):
got an older, more experienced team coming back in many ways.
And I really liked the quarterback they went out and
got in the transfer portal in Darien Menson. Now he
better play good because if those reported numbers are true
in terms of what they paid him off of a
one year starting season, you better perform.

Speaker 5 (25:40):
I know that's crazy. Four million, that's crazy, man per season.
I should say, Lukes before we let you go. Non
football question. It's great to have you back. It's great
to bond with a fellow champion.

Speaker 2 (25:51):
Again.

Speaker 3 (25:52):
I've noticed that you like rockin the cowboy boots look,
and I was actually thinking as a change up a
buying a pair of cowboy boots and making that part
of my thing.

Speaker 2 (26:04):
Do you think I could pull off cowboy boots? Do
you think I should? Should I leave that to guys
like you, Luke?

Speaker 1 (26:10):
I think I think it's all about owning it, right.
It's like you know, if you walk into a room
like you own it, somebody will think you do.

Speaker 2 (26:19):
So it's a full yeah.

Speaker 1 (26:22):
Yeah, play play the game. But here's what you gotta do.
You gotta make sure you got a good belt buckle. Okay,
I had my belt buckle yesterday. The first day of
acc kickoff was the poster for Jaws Real yesterday. How
it was upstanding. I'll take a picture of it and

(26:44):
send it to sleep. I don't know what I'm gonna
wear today. I'm gonna come up with something. I'll shoot
you guys a photo, but absolutely go get your pair.

Speaker 4 (26:51):
Of cowboy boots.

Speaker 1 (26:53):
Yeah, it's just not the cowboy boots.

Speaker 5 (26:56):
I just I'm not confident. Can I own cowboy boots?

Speaker 2 (26:59):
Bone? You know what I mean? And a big belt buckle?
Is that my thing? Or is that not my swag?

Speaker 5 (27:04):
Because I had a stage in high school where I
thought I could be a cowboy, I would uh put
some dip in my back pocket, but never actually use it.
When I would, I would pack the dip like I
was hand that dip to me. I'm gonna need that
for my house. I would just walk around and pack
the dip and never.

Speaker 2 (27:19):
Use it.

Speaker 1 (27:21):
In pocket.

Speaker 2 (27:22):
That's a good call. That's a good call.

Speaker 3 (27:26):
All right, Lukes, keep killing it over there, you guys.
I was watching a bunch of the coverage yesterday. You
guys doing a great job. Keep it up. Man, appreciate you.
Good to talk to you again.

Speaker 1 (27:35):
Good to talk to you guys. Man.

Speaker 5 (27:37):
All right, there you go. That is Tom Lugan, bill Man.
What you as a cowboy? What a conversation? He backs
me putting on the cowboy boots and loves NC State
this year. Got so excited, you got so fired up.
Your last question was could I pull off a cowboy?

Speaker 3 (27:51):
I was just thinking about boots, like just like a
different like kind of footwear like, but I don't know.
I'm not like a Bailey or a Lugs though, am
I I'm not washbuckling, you know what I mean. I'm
not the type of guy that walks in and you're
thinking he's got spurs.

Speaker 5 (28:06):
Jingle jangle jingle, like you know what I mean, but
I think it would be with jeans. I don't know.
This is a stupid idea. They also like how you're
very stupid. You're thought of a cowboys like nineteen sixties western,
like you're walking into a saloon. I've got I love
it of cowboy, are you? They want to be more
like the Morgan Walling type cowboy. No, like that like

(28:29):
some headlines.

Speaker 2 (28:30):
And I don't mean I mean like the look.

Speaker 5 (28:32):
I don't mean like, well he's involved what he's involved in?

Speaker 3 (28:36):
Or should it just be like Kenny Chesney and be
no shirt, no shoes, no problem.

Speaker 2 (28:40):
No, we need you, and I just go like that
you need to have a shirt on. He needs you and.

Speaker 5 (28:43):
Everything on your your airplane mode is no shirt, no shoes.

Speaker 3 (28:47):
Oh my gosh, game of cut Kevin boot cut jeans, sir,
Oh yeah, I get some boot cutters baby to go.

Speaker 2 (28:54):
With the boots and the buckle. There's a Libos in Monroe.
You want to go? Is that Jeff Leebo's place?

Speaker 5 (29:00):
Okay, so one says you need a bad boy. Ber
this ain't me, you know what, It's not me. It
was a stupid idea.

Speaker 6 (29:05):
You haven't even seen Tombstone you can't dress like a
cowboy till you've actually watched Western No.

Speaker 5 (29:10):
You're right, this is completely opposite of me. What was
I thinking? I don't think watching the Western Conference of
the NBA counts. I've watched Westerns. I've seen the blazers
of the Jazz.

Speaker 4 (29:20):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (29:21):
Here's a man that could pull off boots though the
fit daddy and a cowboy hat would cover up that
ball dome.

Speaker 5 (29:25):
Nice, he's got plenty of cowboy Yeah. We want to
burn that cowboy girdo soon, though, fit Daddy. Let's do it, baby,
give us a Mark Spain Sports Flash.

Speaker 2 (29:49):
That's right, Mac.

Speaker 6 (29:49):
The sports Flash is brought to you by Mark Spain
Real Estate. Go to Mark Spain dot com, get a
guaranteed offer on your home today and start packing. Just
want to reiterate these scores from baseball last night. The
Braves lost at home to the Giants nine to nothing.
The Mets beat the Angels, the Yankees beat the Blue Jays.

Speaker 2 (30:12):
Aaron Boone went on John Boy and.

Speaker 6 (30:14):
Ripped the way the media covers baseball players. Now I'm
boning you you on Earth. Some some interesting trade news
around Marcela Zuna. Azuna, a guy who could very well
be on the move this year's trade deadline.

Speaker 5 (30:26):
Yeah, there's a report overnight from Hector Gomez MLB reporter
that a trade that trade talks between the Padres and
Braves have intensified. The Padres are very interested in landing
Marcelo Zuna. According to the source, the Braves would receive
Padre's number eighteen prospect pitcher Francis Pina and number twenty
one prospect or right handed pitcher Ryan Berger. So at

(30:49):
some point Soonemach, it looks like Ozuna could be on
the move, possibly the Padres, who obviously need more hitters
in their lineup. When we come back here on the
Mac and Bone Show on this Football Wednesday, Fiddy wants
to fire up the ten win anther wagon. Chew Chew,

(31:11):
who's in Sports Radio seven WFMZ.

Speaker 2 (31:38):
Winning games.

Speaker 7 (31:38):
Man, Well, I think we all know what they mean,
you know. I mean that's because they're private people, meaning
I think personally, man, I like what I see you mother.

Speaker 4 (31:48):
Man.

Speaker 7 (31:48):
I obviously we got to play some football here the
next couple of weeks and we'll see how that feel
and the look, and they will play other teams we'll
see how that feel will look. But Uh.

Speaker 2 (31:57):
I think we built the right way.

Speaker 7 (31:58):
Man. I think we're physical. I think we'd be I
think the nasty. We got new skills. We got skills
on defense. I think you know, I mean new d
just I don't know for me personally. I'm not sitting
an expectations anything like that. I'm just saying for me personally,
Like I think I like what I because I'm a
I'm a guy that's always back against the wall, like
I was a two star athlete, went to a school,
graduated eighteen kids. I like to surprise people. Go when

(32:19):
I walk in the room, they don't know all he
went to this here. Then I walk up and I
show up and then oh shit, you know what I mean?
So that's what I love doing that shit so hopefully
and I mean that I get sticking on the we
can do that.

Speaker 2 (32:29):
I really feel. I like what I feel.

Speaker 5 (32:33):
Wow, we all just had collective hard problem, is shue?

Speaker 4 (32:37):
There?

Speaker 2 (32:38):
I come on, Rob, I got big Daddy Rob A
hunt with a couple of little a couple of cussas
in there. Hopefully we're good. Hopefully we're clean.

Speaker 3 (32:46):
Fiddy hopped on that jump butt that dumb button like
we only wish cam would have done with the fumbles.

Speaker 5 (32:51):
You know what I mean, he was all over that. Damn.
I'm kidding, Camm and he's still my man. I just
turned on camp. I'm kidding. It was too easy. It
was too easy. But anyway, Also, that's the quickest I
seen him moving awhile.

Speaker 3 (33:01):
Okay, before he dropped in a couple of cuss words
that we did not have believed. Robert Hunt said talked
about the completeness of this team and the way this
team is built. And I'm telling you bone he didn't
say it, but I feel like if Fitty goes up
to him when we're at camp, whether it's you know,
tomorrow or next week or whatever, for the first time
and says, do you want in on the ten win wagon?

Speaker 2 (33:22):
That's how Robert Hunt sounded.

Speaker 5 (33:23):
He sounds like he thinks they've got something and I
get it, man.

Speaker 3 (33:28):
Four and five last year, it looks to me like
they found their quarterback. They got Swaggy Bryce back, the
whole o lines back. Robert hunts that I've never played
on for a team had the whole o lineback. And
they don't just have the top five back. They got
their top three bench guys back to as far as
the O line. So anyway, there's reasons to be optimistic.

(33:48):
I'm not sure the defense is ready just yet for
ten wins. So fiddy, you have asked for this segment.
You have a giant like post or board size like post.
It's over there, and you are writing every name this
offseason of people that are on the ten win club,
your Panther ten win club. Game got Kevin's on there,

(34:09):
Big Cat, Dan's on there, Collin's on there. Nick from
Belmont I thought he hated the Panthers and like the Cowboys,
he's on their thick joints on there, Sir Lloin's on there.

Speaker 2 (34:18):
So anyway, the names, here's the problem, Fitty.

Speaker 3 (34:21):
This is the kind of thing usually in the past
I would do on opening training camp day.

Speaker 5 (34:26):
I'm just on the eight win club and next year's
our playoff year club.

Speaker 2 (34:30):
Like, I guess I'm not cool, man.

Speaker 6 (34:33):
No, you're definitely not cool, and you're also not a
real Carolina Panther fan.

Speaker 2 (34:36):
Like I'm back in the fandom and I'm the one.

Speaker 6 (34:39):
That's leading the charge. Yeah, we started this back. I
think he was like in May when we got done
with the draft, and I think rookie Mini camp Ins
and Ota. Because I wrote down the record with the
dates that we were taking down the ten win club.
I just figure what today being the first day of
practice practice, as Alan I was like to talk about,

(35:01):
we would check back you.

Speaker 2 (35:02):
We got to add one name to the list.

Speaker 6 (35:03):
Dollar Bills texted end today said he's on the ten
win Club.

Speaker 2 (35:07):
For about thirty forty strong.

Speaker 6 (35:09):
But I want to grow this thing, baby, because this
team I think is ready to surprise in twenty twenty five.

Speaker 5 (35:14):
Listen, don't get me wrong, boys, and Bone knows this.
I mean I run My fuel is panther enthusiasm. Like
I run on panther enthusiasm, and I still think part
of your gas.

Speaker 3 (35:24):
I listen to Josie Jewel things taking me for a
hit here. We did go out and at least bring
in a corner in tray swelling. But he's a young guy.
But like, I'm too worried about now the depth Bone
at middle linebacker when we get past Rose, Boom and
Wallace with the Jewel situation, I'm worried still about the
corner depth. You're leaning on young guys like Richardson and
Ransom at corner. I'm just worried when the injuries hit

(35:47):
are back seven, When injuries hit our back seven, what
is gonna happen to this team?

Speaker 2 (35:53):
That's why I.

Speaker 3 (35:54):
Settle in at fitty another year with a three win
improvement and a stride towards next year when I'm all
over to playoff express.

Speaker 2 (36:02):
Yeah, I think I think that's reasonable.

Speaker 6 (36:05):
But I was on the ten win wagon because I
love the schedule. I think there's a five and two
start there to be had, and we were talking about.

Speaker 2 (36:13):
It is a start they've got to nail.

Speaker 6 (36:15):
They've got to match, Yes, and we were kind of
talking about it yesterday, like, you know, what would we
want to see for to make Panther football fun again?
Y'all mentioned like a win over Buffalo, get one of
those signature wins, maybe a win over Green Bay, a
win over Dallas. I think all those things are attainable,
assuming that they're healthy, assuming that Bryshung is the guy
we saw the last nine games of the year, because

(36:37):
they went toe to toe with the two teams that
played for the Super Bowl and the team that won
the division for a fourth straight year. So all this
stuff is attainable. And they did that last year without
Derek Brown and one of the worst defenses in NFL history.

Speaker 5 (36:50):
Now I'm gonna stay at nine because I don't know
if I want my name back on the list of
some of these names of the guys on this list.
This is Fitty's Club here? Ready for this is page two?
Page Okay?

Speaker 2 (37:02):
What you hear?

Speaker 5 (37:02):
That's page two, sat Fur, Leakage, Panther Pickle, gas House
earl toting Nactater, and someone named z Stetch Panther.

Speaker 2 (37:15):
That's a crew, baby, z Stetch like check Panther.

Speaker 5 (37:18):
Oh do you want to be on there with Leakage
and Panther Pickle?

Speaker 2 (37:29):
I do love the enthusiasm.

Speaker 5 (37:30):
This dude says Max a Killjoy this year, Fiddy should
take over the show.

Speaker 2 (37:34):
I'd love to get out of here. This is Geo,
which places This dude spent one week.

Speaker 5 (37:37):
As a Panther fan last year and betrayed us on
social media.

Speaker 2 (37:41):
Do you come on man like? I'm with you, Fiddy,
but don't do this whole thing. I'm the leader. I'm
not a leader. He is cloppy.

Speaker 6 (37:47):
You know, were you willing to run rouse to become
a Panther fan? Were you willing to sing the song
to become a panther fan. Are you willing to eat
raccoon meat to become a panther fan?

Speaker 1 (37:56):
Mac?

Speaker 2 (37:57):
When you became a panther fan, he all that I'm
willing to do pants. You turned on him in one gate.
You need all that.

Speaker 5 (38:03):
You can't claim that stuff now you turned on that
in the first hour of the show. It's after week
one last year. So all that stuff you did out
the window, open up that universal window, throw it out exactly.
It would be like you think Elan was gonna trust Tiger. No,
she took a nine iron, damn near upside his head.

Speaker 2 (38:20):
Upside the head. You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 5 (38:21):
I'm not saying what he did Fitty with a nine iron,
y'all don't come down here, all I do.

Speaker 3 (38:24):
Not come down here with your golf said and tear
his pant's head off. But I just I don't know, man.
I'm also trying to not like I've spent so many
years on this station. Bone we were joking about last
hour one is I listened to Dan Morgan's comments and
it's just my read is they kind of feel like
this is the year to set up the breakthrough year
next year. Number two is how many years, Bone, have

(38:48):
I gotten myself into a lather. Panthers gonna do this,
Panther's gonna do that, And then we get to the
season and I just feel like it's devastating because I
expected so much. That's why I feel like a night
three win jump where you're competing into the middle of
December for a playoff spot and the defense improves and
Bryce is that guy contract worthy and all that.

Speaker 2 (39:10):
Like, I feel like that would be a very good year.

Speaker 5 (39:12):
I don't want to set myself up Bone to where
eight wins becomes a disappointment, because I don't think it
should be viewed that way.

Speaker 2 (39:18):
The highest all go in this win auction is nine.

Speaker 5 (39:21):
I'm noting you go start to get can I get leve?
We got an auctions over here. I'm gonna stay at nine.
You are getting a lot of people though, Fitty, I
love listen and I love the enthusiasts believe. Do you
believe this or are you trying to suck up to
the Panther fan base. Oh that's a good question. I
don't say something that that I don't believe in.

Speaker 2 (39:40):
Are you not?

Speaker 5 (39:41):
You could be like a politician play into your new
base here though that's not me.

Speaker 2 (39:44):
I would never do such a thing. You don't try
to don't try to change our name either. Back there.

Speaker 3 (39:50):
Yeah, like that guy right there bringing up commanders and
and uh and uh guardians and the names and maybe
you know something like that. But anyway, I but I
respect it. Though this dude says, I am not I'm
still not believing, Fitty. I've been scarred, Fitty by your
tweets from week one. See you hurt people, fit, you
hurt people.

Speaker 4 (40:11):
Man.

Speaker 5 (40:11):
But once we burn that damn Romo jersey with you
in it. I had the plan yesterday, Bone, where you
had you had the first part of the plan. Burn
the Romo jersey with Fittio wearing it, and then he
could jump in Almos's pool.

Speaker 2 (40:27):
You know, I think it'd be a great video.

Speaker 6 (40:29):
You can do that.

Speaker 2 (40:30):
I will with the kaf as bad as flounder.

Speaker 5 (40:32):
He's gonna get burned like fighters legs from the sun.
Oh man, I just this texture, says Mac. I don't
hold any your will towards you or Fitty. I'm at
nine wins like Bone, but I can see everybody's point.
I think what we should celebrate is damn near all
of us Panther fans feel like the arrow is finally
pointed up. That's a great way of putting it. Whether

(40:54):
you're at eight, nine or ten, we're all in that
same kind of neighborhood, and I think we all feel
like they finally got it right. Dan and Dave are
a hell of a combo. Bryce is the guybone, and
you know, Tepper is is learning, you know, how to
be hands up like I think I think most of
us feel that way. Does Willie p trust Fitty, Oh,
that's a good question. We'll ask him that next Sports
