Speaker 1 (00:01):
Bottom is a gypsy queen who dons a crimson dress
and wild along the land she runs red blossoms on
her breast. Autumn is a happy place where children big
are small, should always wear a funny face and never
never sulk at all. Trinkets twinkle and clusters bright, and

(00:24):
the golden rod is yellow. The holly tree is a
beautiful sight, and the pumpkins getting mellow. Autumn is full of.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Let's do this baby. Thank you mister for Senda. It's
go time. It is go time, y'all. By the way,
we just kind of blew off that Travis on her conversation.
We got Lugi gate, we got lugigate. But we're gonna
get back to football talk now. We'll talk about Travis Hunter.
I'm sure he will come up the self proclaimed Unicorn
as a matchup on both sides.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Of the ball.

Speaker 4 (00:55):
At nine o'clock, we will do the Panther up or
not anthor up segment. We want to know how many
of y'all believe the Panthers are going to win. That's
coming up at nine o'clock right now. Though, we got
to talk college football, and we got to talk specifically
a little college football confidence here, Bone man, I need

(01:15):
to know and we will give you.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
A shout out.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
We'll give your team a shout out if you hit
us up on the text line right now, Fandle text
line seven oh four five, seven nine six ten.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
Who out there is feeling good?

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Thinks you're getting a dub in college football this weekend
and you want to tell us about it, and let's
talk about it. And Charlotte and UNC is one that
we got to discuss. Bony, I'm interested in NC State
fans for the Virginia game. Virginia look damn good against
Coastal blowing them out last week. The Duke Illinois won.

(01:47):
I mean, I'm not sure we have more Duke fans
than just Bone and James for Maiden, But if you
are a Duke fan, this is a huge game.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Huge game.

Speaker 4 (01:55):
Yeah, I'm confident. I think Duke's going to have a
big non conference win in this game. I think the
ALIGNI are slightly overrated entering the season. I think a
large part of their hype and rank they did beat
South Carolina in the bowl game. But I think Duke
the defense and their ability to blitz against an ALIGNI

(02:16):
team that does not handle the Blitzwell will be a
big factor. I think Duke's defense will play better this
week than it did last week. They didn't tackle well
last week. Some fundamentals were a little off last week.
I think they'll be locked in. They'll be better this week.
I think Menso is the real deal. It's a three
point spread that tells you there's not a lot of
difference in Vegas between these teams. I think Duke finds

(02:39):
a way very close to win this football game.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
To Marrow, listen, this is a mammoth moment for Duke.
Illinois is eleventh in the country. Yep, this is This
would be a mammoth win. Last time Duke played a
ranked team didn't go so well in the bowl games.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
A big Mississippi So would be a statement.

Speaker 4 (02:54):
With the Illinois being ranked eleven, another big opportunity for
the ACC as well.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
Oh yeah, no, that's a good call. This would be
another big win. We already got the Florida State and
Miami wins Clemson. You let us all down, You let
the whole team down, as they say in Cameron. But yes,
this could be a big win for the ACC. We
were talking the other day Bone about how deep is
the ACC. Clearly, it looks like they're getting better towards
the top.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
Right.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
We thought it was only gonna be Clemson. Turns out
the big wins were Miami and Florida State. I like Louisville,
I like Georgia Tech.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
Two.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
Duke could really make a statement that they're a part
of that top portion of the ACC. I would lean Illinois.
I would lean Illinois. I'm worried a little bit about
Duke's run defense. Elon ran for one sixty three on them.
Illinois a team bone that was six and a big
ten in rushing last year. They went for two hundred
Daniel two hundred yards rushing last week against an inferior opponent.

(03:44):
You know, Brett Belama, I know you hate them, Bony,
but you know Beilama wants to run the football. Duke
has to play better up front defensively. But you got
a good point about the Blitzz. They got to get
pressure on alt Meyer two man and Matt Chadwick made
the point on PFF that Altmeyer and Illinois band against

(04:05):
the blitz Duke Manny Diaz a blitz Craze defense. You
could that be big for y'all. Y'all got to run
the ball two bone you're running. Duke's running game was
pathetic last year. They got to have some semblance of
a damn running game to help Mens out. But I
think Mens is a baller. I'm looking forward to seeing
how he plays man.

Speaker 4 (04:25):
One thing I could see happening as I project forward
to the next week, not trying to pass an opponent
by any means, but I think when I could my
crystal ball, I could see Duke winning tomorrow, going on
the road to Tulayane in an emotional game, probably for
their fan base, with their former quarterback coming in there.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
They'll be amped up.

Speaker 4 (04:43):
I could see them winning tomorrow, and then I have
to worry about and Duke should worry about the letdown
on the road against Tulayne the next week. That could
be what could happen if you said, but if Duke's
what's these two? That's that's still I think, Oh you
think get one of these two? I think that would
be I would be well done. The Duke nay sayers

(05:06):
are showing up on the text line. I just read them,
bon and I just read them all right, Husker Mike
Illinois is the lock of the week.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
Alex and Steel Creek. Why does Morman?

Speaker 4 (05:14):
I will take care of Duke Husker Mike. Why don't
you worry about your own program? Because I'm checking checking
my notes here. I haven't really seen you much since
nineteen ninety five, the Dallas Cowboys of the college football.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
Let's move to some other games. I just I think
it's like a field goal game though, like you know,
here's another guy. I just choked on like donut tasting spit?

Speaker 3 (05:40):
Did you spit towards me? It stayed in.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
There and I but I tried swallow it and checked the table.
I feel like I got loogie?

Speaker 3 (05:48):
Did a pie?

Speaker 4 (05:49):
I need to ask did a piecea did a piece
of donut come up from your stomach?

Speaker 2 (05:53):
Like back through your like no, I don't know what.
My mouth is watering from the from the donuts. It's
very odd. But anyway, let me refocus here. Anyway, we
were marveling during the break. Donuts put Mac in the
best mood ever. We should do this five days a week.
You can't be I mean, when it's a cheap day
and you're eating butterfinger donuts and your coworker in your
area wearing a long staffers jersey. I got my JJ

(06:14):
Jansen oversize Jersey anyway. All right, let me refocus here.
I should have picked Duke. How can I pick against
Duke when Bone bought me those donuts and this was
part of the plan NC State? All right, so it
is college football confidence? Who is confident? We got to
get to Charlotte in North Carolina. It's kind of a
weird game because both teams got Schlama band last week.

(06:34):
So I just created some uncertainty in each fan base.
NC State Virginia is kind of like a sneaky, entertaining game.
I'm kind of with Lee Sterling. I could see this
thing being a shootout. I do think Virginia has a
pretty good quarterback in Chandler Morris. I do think that's
a big move for them. Virginia is so different to Bone.
They have over fifty new players. They hit the transfer

(06:55):
portal every touchdown last week and they had six of them.
They put them forty something on coastal. Every touchdown was
scored by a transfer. So it's a real new look
Virginia team. NC State has more continuity, at least on
that offensive side of the ball. I think it could
be one where it is a shootout. Of the high
scoring game State's in Raleigh? Is that the advantage? Oh,

(07:15):
it's a noon game. I don't even think the crazy
woop packers can get as fired up for a noon
game as they do for a night game with not
as much prep time.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
But I think all roll with CJ.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
Bailey the continuity has with his weapons, and they're gonna
have Cleveland from the start in this game on defense,
unlike last game, I think State can win it.

Speaker 3 (07:34):
But by no means of my on.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Here woop pack macan whoop back fingers and Howland. I
mean like, I think this game goes down to the
wirebone I do too.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
I think it's high scoring.

Speaker 4 (07:44):
Like you talked about, I'm leaning towards Virginia in a shootout.
I'm wondering, is Virginia kind of like the Georgia Tech
of last year in the acc A team. We didn't
really talk a whole lot about it in the offseat
in they got their Georgia Tech on a big win
early last year. We thought it was a big winner
early they could be that good. I'm just wondering if

(08:06):
they're that underas Virginia. I'm saying Georgia eighteen overtimes. I'm
just wondering if I'm not saying they're the exact same thing. Man,
I mean, are they the team? There's always one or
two that are better than we thought, And I wonder
if Virginia's that team that maybe we didn't consider enough
to be better this year?

Speaker 3 (08:23):
They might be better than we thought.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
But I would say that would be middle of the
pack in the ACC, which is better than they have been. Yeah,
but it's not like Georgia Tech last year. Like just me,
Are they the up and coming team? Not exactly the
same path? I'm just saying, I wonder if Virginia ends
up being a tough out.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
Is it possible? Coastals garbage?

Speaker 5 (08:41):
Like?

Speaker 2 (08:41):
It does seem like they are in a serious decline
since the guy with the mullet?

Speaker 3 (08:45):
What was the coaches? Why can't I remember the coaches?

Speaker 2 (08:48):
George Well? How they about Tim Beck? Ironically from State?
Could it just be the Coastal's falling apart?

Speaker 3 (08:56):
Very well?

Speaker 2 (08:57):
Could be Zach in Miami is the opposite he he
says my he says State will be unbeaten going.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
Into the Notre Dame game. Well, that takes care of that,
you know what?

Speaker 4 (09:05):
That means Bone he's got a beaten Wake Virginia Wegg Duke,
Virginia Tech and Campbell Well Duke's Bone you out the
last two times they played.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
I we got you, Zach, he got you. This dude says,
of course Bone is picking against NC State. He's such
a low key wolf Pack hater.

Speaker 4 (09:22):
I picked him to win last week'suh fella, So what
you got now in blowout fashion? You did WFNZ commoner.
I think the Pack defense will be better this week.
He said.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
You got down early. Start throwing the ball for the
rest of the game. Give me packed by ten. This
dude says, after watching the Pack in the second half
barely hold on to win. I have no confidence, not
even against the crappy Who's. I do think the Bones
point to Who's might not be as crappy as you're
used to seeing them be.

Speaker 4 (09:49):
I don't think they are, and I think I don't
think Vegas thinks they are either based off the points
bread in that game, No, not at all, not at
all and a half or two and a half and
you usually get three for being at home. Yes, so
on a neutral site, it's essentially Virginia by a half.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
You see I did that, Yes, I did.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
What do you think about unc U NC and Charlotte
the un C fans, some of y'all are so down bad.
You've been texting the show this week saying you think
you could lose to Charlotte. Obviously, Vegas lowered the points
spread by like a touchdown bone right, it was up
at three touchdowns, it's now I think it actually has
got down the thirteen and a half now last I saw.

(10:27):
Do you think that Carolina is that bad that they
can lose to Shark because I need to remind you
that Charlotte, I don't mean listen. I want both of
y'all to be good, but I got to be keep
it real. Charlotte looked terrible against af State two.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
Right.

Speaker 4 (10:42):
I don't think they're bad enough to lose to Charlotte,
but I don't think they're good enough to blow with
them out based off what we saw the other night.
I don't know how many blowouts they're really gonna have.
I think the Heels win, but I don't think they're
gonna go from what they looked like fundamentally fundamental whif
on Monday to all of a sudden looking crispin a
whole lot better by Saturday. So I think they win,

(11:05):
but I don't think it's gonna be I don't think
it's gonna be pretty by anything. I think a lot
of their wins might be a dougly variety. When they
get them the I think they cover that spread. I
think they cover that thirteen a half spread. Like I
just I think Tim Albyn is really starting down in

(11:25):
the basement, basement level, you know what I mean, I
really was. I did not like what I saw. We
didn't know what to expect with all the new players
and stuff.

Speaker 3 (11:35):
Bone.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
Offensively, they want to run the football, and I know
that's what they're gonna try against Caroline and Carolina obviously
that run defense looked terrible the other night. I gotta
think there's a huge difference bone in the trenches and
in the skill position areas and the quarterback areas between
TCU and Charlotte, just like a huge difference.

Speaker 3 (11:55):
Like I'm not sure.

Speaker 2 (11:56):
I'm not sure Charlotte has a quarterback bone that's gonna
be good enough this year. I really am down on
their weaponry in the past game. I don't think they
have any game breakers in the past game, at least
at first look and then on defense. This is something
West brought up last week going into the app game,
the size of their D line. Can Carolina run the
ball on them? I know they didn't do it well

(12:17):
the other day, but can they shove Charlotte around? I
just I think both teams are bad, but I think
UNC's power for bad. I think Charlotte might be I
hope I'm wrong, and Seana might be a group of
five bad. BONE think UNC wins by about ten something
in that neighborhood. I think like seventeen. I don't think
Carolina fans should be that. I mean, I get it.

(12:37):
Carolina fans are shook. Seven oh four number. Ain't no
way I'm picking us to blow anybody out. I don't
care if it's the w fn Z flag football team.

Speaker 3 (12:49):
Hey, we could be competitive.

Speaker 4 (12:50):
We got we got Wes Bryant and we got got
Wes Bryant, Wes Bryant Bailey.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
I think it moves some people on the line.

Speaker 2 (12:58):
Wes Bryan and Bailey up front and Fitty Tote in
the rock.

Speaker 3 (13:02):
I mean, how can we lose? I think we could run.

Speaker 4 (13:04):
These look like a little mini Terry Bradshaw. All right,
So what games have we not mentioned?

Speaker 2 (13:09):
But and those are like the local ones that have
the most interest Clemson, A lot of a lot of
teams are playing you know, Patsy's. You know, a lot
of teams are playing softies. You got Clemsons. I wasn't
finding the right word it poos cupcakes, butterfinger donut games. Uh,
you got Clemson, Troy, you got app linden Wood, you
got East U Campbell what So those are a lot

(13:31):
of Wake is playing West turnt I better not call
that a Patsy game. Wake and Western though, is smoke
going to get me? And Wake didn't look like they
have a Patsy game?

Speaker 4 (13:41):
Is it possible the way they played last week's by
Is it possible Game of the week? Is it possible
the way we saw Wake barely beat one of the
worst teams in the country last week, and Western can
at least push them a while, Right, that game's at
least close for a while, least close into the second half. Right,
I may have to like Lester's a real good f
That is a game we may have to actually watch

(14:03):
or monitor along the way, because I'm thinking that might be.

Speaker 3 (14:06):
A second half game. Yeah, I'm kind of with you.
On that.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
That's a two o'clock or tomorrow ESPN plus Tampa. Matt says,
underrated fun game of the weekend USF Florida seventeen and
a half's a lot of points. We got a Gator
fan on here. Was that our guy, Scott Yep the
UFL hunk Gators by fifty. I think you're disrespecting Byron
Brown and those boys. Man, they look real good against boys.

(14:30):
I'm not saying boys as good as they were last year.

Speaker 3 (14:31):
Bone.

Speaker 2 (14:32):
I don't see that being a total route, do you.

Speaker 4 (14:36):
No, No, it's a seventeen and a half point spread.
I think that's not given enough credit to South Florida.
I think South Florida I think they hang in that
game pretty late. I think Florida wins by it. That's
a pretty close football game. Yeah, Jason, what we saw
not just the fact that South Florida beat an obviously
overrated Boise State team entering the season. They beat them down.

(14:58):
That wasn't like they won in a last second field goal.
Absolutely housed Boise State. Last they did, they did.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
Byron Brown is a beast physically, man, there's no I
thought their defense looked really good against Boy and I
know it's different against Lagway and you're in the swamp.

Speaker 3 (15:11):
Where did Byron Brown go to high school? Bone? You
told me last week, Rollsville.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
That's right, Okay, So yeah, he's he's uh, you know,
he's a kid that got away from the state.

Speaker 3 (15:19):
Here.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
Let's see Oklahoma, dude, Tennessee. Jed says, big game for
Venables against Michigan. I like Oklahoma in this spot. I
sense y'all. Are y'all thinking Michigan comes in and upsets them?

Speaker 4 (15:33):
Yes, I think really, yeah, I think it's the coming
out party nationally obviously his only second game. Rice Underwood
is the real deal. I think Michigan finds a way
to beat Oklahoma.

Speaker 5 (15:43):
See.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
I think it's a coming out party Ashley for John Matteer. Well,
I think it's all coming out party for Underwood. Well,
we'll see who. We'll see who comes out. For lack
of a better lack of a better term, it's it's
in Oklahoma Underwood's first road start.

Speaker 3 (15:56):
That place is gonna be cranked.

Speaker 2 (15:59):
Venables is twenty one in five as a coordinator or
head coach against freshman quarterbacks.

Speaker 3 (16:04):
Just a little note ill throw in there. You like
Michigan Tael.

Speaker 4 (16:08):
This is a freakish freshman quarterback, though I will say
that he's he's a freshman.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
Is he a generational talent?

Speaker 5 (16:13):
Boat?

Speaker 3 (16:13):
I want to get in.

Speaker 4 (16:14):
You wanted to bait that with LASKI. I thought someone
said he was yesterday. I had to go someone did
say it yesterday.

Speaker 2 (16:19):
I think this is the best quarterback that Portnoy can
buy man, Bryce Underwood Michigan, Fitty, is that is that
what you're doing over there?

Speaker 3 (16:26):
You got Michigan winning this game. No, I think Oklahoma's
gonna win.

Speaker 6 (16:30):
I don't think Michigan is ready to go on the
road in that environment with that young.

Speaker 3 (16:33):
Of a quarterback.

Speaker 6 (16:34):
I think it will be a fun, competitive game like
seventeen thirteen into the fourth quarter. But this is I mean,
this is a make or break for Venables, right Like
he needs to get a win to really instill some
belief on the field. They revent what did it off
the field? They got the money coming back into the program.
But he's got to win and and so I think
that place will be fired. I'm ready to go.

Speaker 4 (16:54):
Game for Venables. Huge game man. It was said yesterday
back on ESPN. I knew I do I thought I
saw this somewhere that Bryce Underwood is indeed a generational talent.

Speaker 3 (17:05):
Guess where that came from.

Speaker 2 (17:08):
He was just handing out generational talent tags. Aren't you
get one? Bryce Underwood?

Speaker 3 (17:13):
You get one? Probably gave himself one.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
But seven oh four number I did not know this,
says Western gave up a thirty five seven lead and
lost to Gardner Web last week.

Speaker 6 (17:22):
I got twenty seven text messages about it.

Speaker 3 (17:24):
I didn't realize that.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
I didn't really, I'm telling you, I watched that whole
weight game, though, y'all. I'm with bone Man. There is
and then I don't know what the Clayborne status is.
Is he good to play?

Speaker 4 (17:35):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (17:35):
That injury?

Speaker 4 (17:36):
I think he is right if I'm not mistaken by
double check that.

Speaker 2 (17:39):
Charisma supreme A Buckeye fan Boomer effin sooner.

Speaker 4 (17:43):
So there you go. Not a shocking development. We all agree.
Canvas offsets Missouri. Everyone say I I like Missouri, man.
I told you I think Missouri wins ten games this year. Man,
I was just trying to get will see Williams water.
I'm sorry, I'm.

Speaker 3 (17:58):
Sorry.

Speaker 4 (17:58):
I didn't understand the assign I'm pulling.

Speaker 3 (18:00):
For Miszoo because Willy had to cancel this trip. He
was supposed to be at that game. He can that go.
I hope his boy's gonna win for him.

Speaker 4 (18:06):
Why are you very nice? Wait a minute, why are
you being nice to Willy today? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (18:11):
Why are you being nice to Willy today? I don't
know what's what's going on with us. It's the donuts, man.

Speaker 4 (18:15):
They make us happy and nice to everybody unless you're
on price hater.

Speaker 3 (18:18):
I'm gonna scream at your ass still when we come back.

Speaker 4 (18:21):
Joe Coward does radio in Jacksonville will give us the
insight all we need to know on the Panthers opponent,
the Jaguars on Sunday Sports Radio ninety two seven WFNZ.

Speaker 2 (18:50):
Sports Radio ninety two seven wfn Z. All right, we're going, uh,
we're going full till Panthers. We talked to college football.
We had to break down Loogiegate. I'm I mean we
were like Seinfeld breaking it the film down back to
the left.

Speaker 5 (19:04):
I mean, a.

Speaker 4 (19:04):
Cowboy quarterback got spit on. You can imagine what ESPN
is like right now. It's a state of emergency. And
then you got the dak spit two things. So we
got a little caught up in lookie Gate, got a.

Speaker 3 (19:14):
Little caught up in college football.

Speaker 2 (19:15):
But I will tell you this right now, we full
tilt Panthers bone for the next hour on this rate,
probably more because Gelby's gonna come on, Zach Gelb's gonna
come on Infinity Sports Radio every Friday again this year,
and he's gonna talk a lot about the.

Speaker 3 (19:28):
Panthers as well.

Speaker 2 (19:29):
Right now, let's get let's go behind enemy lines if
you will a little bit, Bone, Let's let's get the
update on this week's Week one opponent to Jacksonville Jaguars
at place I still have a great affinity for for
my days there, I got two decades ago, Bone, I'm
getting old. And this next, our next guest has been

(19:50):
a staple there way back then and he is still
rocking and hosting XL Primetime on ten ten x L
weekdays at noon. He is Joe, and he joins us
to give us some insight on the Jaguars. Joe, what
is going on down there in Jacksonville?

Speaker 5 (20:06):
Man?

Speaker 3 (20:06):
How you doing?

Speaker 5 (20:07):
I'm doing great, man, But it does kill me when
you say two decades ago. That's put a little age
on both of us.

Speaker 3 (20:12):
Bro seriously, dude, we were like young bucks back then.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
We were two different stations back then, so you know
I had to act like I didn't like you and stuff.
But uh, but like we were so young back then.

Speaker 3 (20:23):
Man, look at us now, Oh god, hey, do you
guys want to take him back yet?

Speaker 4 (20:27):
It's been two decades here now, So I'm just I
think curious.

Speaker 5 (20:31):
Yeah, you want us to go ahead and ship them
south of the Queen City.

Speaker 2 (20:36):
I didn't last long down there. They fired me, Cox
Radio fired meself a as Bone. I didn't even know
what happened.

Speaker 3 (20:40):
All right.

Speaker 2 (20:40):
Anyway, let's refocus, though, Coward, because we got to get
some intel on your Jaguars new coach, new schemes and
the Liam Cohen Trevor Lawrence relationship. It kind of reminds
us of last year. I know Trevor's more of a vet,
but last year with Canalis and Bryce. What are the
early returns on Cohen and his effect on Trevor Lawrence.

Speaker 5 (21:02):
Well, dude, everyone's super positive. As you can imagine. Anytime
there's change, you hope change is good. They needed to
quote take out the trash with the Trent Balke era
as the general manager Jimmy Gladstone's I'm calling him. He
comes in, he takes over as GM. Liam first ever
opportunity to be a head coach, and you know, back
back attack when we were here, we were young. But

(21:24):
I also described the Jaguars as a technical center of
sorts because everyone had on the job training. It was
first timers everywhere, be it offensive coordinator, defense, head coach,
and honestly, it's the same expect thing right now, Liam,
first ever, you go to Anthony Campaneely on the defensive side,
first time as a defensive coordinator, granton Y Dinsky first
time as an offensive coordinator, so it could easily blow

(21:46):
up Gladstone young GM, first time as a GM. So
we will see where it goes. Bro. But right now
the energy is high. But back to the original thing
you said, Trevor Lawrence has got to play so much
better than he has, stay healthy and play better.

Speaker 4 (22:02):
How much of a make or break year is this
for Trevor with his future in Jacksonville.

Speaker 5 (22:08):
It's massive. They've already signed him to the big contract.
Leos Ers's on our show calls him I two seventy
five because of how much money they signed him for,
and so you can't cut him, you can't whack that salary.
He gets paid a lot. Now he's got to do
a lot, and I think more than anything else between.
Remember he started with Urban Meyer and that was a
shipwreck of a season, and then he goes from there

(22:30):
to Doug Peterson, they get to the playoffs, and then
the last two years just you know, a pile of
whale poop, and so they haven't been able to sort
things out. And turns the ball over more than anybody
else since he's been in the league. So eliminate the fumbles,
make sure you make better decisions, quicker decisions, and so
basically Fellows. Liam Cohne has been brought in to resurrect

(22:51):
Trevor Lawrence's career, turn him back into that quote generational one.
And he looks like he's got the offensive mine and
play calling ability to do that. We will see if
it all comes to foolish.

Speaker 3 (23:03):
I know this man.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
We ain't gonna say a bad thing about Liam Cohen
and his offense after what they did to the Panthers
last year. I mean, I know he doesn't have the
bucks full personnel, but my god, that was ugly last year.
Joe Coward is with US ten ten XL radio in Jacksonville,
giving us some thoughts on the Jaguars, giving us some
insight on Jacksonville. All right, so Travis Hunter is one
that we just I mean, even the Panthers' coaching staff

(23:26):
when they're asked about him, they've got to just plead ignorance.
They don't know exactly how he's gonna be used, and
they just got to kind of wait and see it
adjust on the fly.

Speaker 3 (23:34):
What's your I mean.

Speaker 2 (23:35):
I know they're being you know, they're not being fully
transparent with the plan. What is your kind of educated
guests based on what's being talked about there for like
how many, what percentage of snaps he plays offense, what
percentage he plays on defense.

Speaker 5 (23:51):
I think they're gonna go heavy. Oh first, They're gonna
try and make him become a play producer on offense.
See if he can ignite this offense, score some points,
make people account for him. And Brian Thomas Junior give
Trevor that one more weapon. Brian Thomas Junior had a
huge year last year, fellows over twelve hundred yards, ten
touchdowns with zero zero playmaking on the other side of

(24:15):
that offensive unit, and so now you take some attention
away from him, Travis Hunter can do his thing. That
should be a much more a complete offensive package of weapons.
So they're going to go on that side first. Then
you can visualize the situation where they maybe put him
in and down in distant situations on the defensive side

(24:36):
where you pretty much can say they're going to throw
the football. He's not the biggest cat, He's less than
one hundred and ninety pounds. He already landed on the
injury report with an upper body injury. They held him
out the last two preseason games, so you guys know it.
Durability is going to be the major question. It's already
tough enough for anybody to play this game on one
side of the ball. Now you've got to take on

(24:58):
Shubba Hubbard about him, Rico. If you if you're at
the corner and you've got to handle that guy on
a power play, that's going to be the biggest concern.

Speaker 4 (25:06):
Joe, where do you think the Jags have an advantage
in this game? And what's an area from the Jacksonville
perspective that worries you?

Speaker 5 (25:14):
Well, you guys gave up a ton of points last year.
Carolina did worse than the NFL history.

Speaker 4 (25:19):
So thank you for reminding us. If we were trying
to turn a page, baby.

Speaker 5 (25:24):
That was one of my killers stats down here in
dow Ball.

Speaker 2 (25:27):
Oh yeah, I would say if I was still down
there in Jacksonville being the being a homer for y'all,
I would I would.

Speaker 3 (25:32):
I would have said that a thousand dollars.

Speaker 5 (25:34):
Yeah, it's true. So how healthy is Derek Brown? Can
you run the football at him? They are going to
make sure that they established the run, So that is
one hundred percent top of mind for William Cohen. Establish
the run. See if your line is any good, you
can get that going, you get the work play action
in and then all of a sudden you got you
got an offense which has not been worthy of bragging

(25:56):
on in the last couple of season.

Speaker 7 (25:57):
They couldn't run the football, they couldn't knock anybody off
the ball. I would always joke fellas, they couldn't get
a third and one, they couldn't stop a third and one,
And so those are the two things they got to do.
Prove that they can defensively man up with Carolina and
stop Hubbard and Rico, and then make sure that they
obviously get to a point where they can run and

(26:18):
control the clock. That is a number one for them.

Speaker 2 (26:21):
Right now, I want let's go to the defensive side
of things, because Joe, as you can imagine, as you
are telling the Jaguars fans, hey, they gave a diverse
most points in NFL history. I am down here saying
our defense was horrendous, but their defense was pretty bad too,
all right, So I'm saying that, but you guys have
addressed it, not only Travis Hunter, Jordan Lewis and the secondary.
I think you've got a new starting safety in the secondary.

(26:43):
What do you think this defense is going to be
improved this year? How vulnerable are they still? What do
you think?

Speaker 5 (26:50):
Yeah, it's got to be better. Like you just said,
the historic bad performance is this one, dude, Ronald Darby
last year gave everybody basically a perfect path for rating.
Don't watch the uniform on where the exact same one
next week he gave up more big play. So the
back end is it really is high stakes poker right

(27:10):
now to see whether or not they can avoid the
big play. They would set up a nice little third
and eighth, but then they give up twenty one on
that third down and so that has to happen. So
Eric Murray, Jordan Lewis, those are the two veterans that
they brought in. Tyson Campbell needs to have a better year.
They now have Travis Hunter, Jari and Jones a couple
of guys that they can work in on that secondary.

(27:30):
But the other part of this, fellow is that you've
got to make sure that the pass rush is there
if you're Jacksonville. They did not get to the quarterback
enough and now Takuantu being out on helping his fellows,
but that should be something that Jacksonville can take advantage of.
And Josh Signs, Allen Trevon Walker need to be dudes.
They weren't enough last year. They did not have the

(27:52):
season that people were hoping for. They don't create enough
pass pressure. So Eric Armstead needs to play his natural
position inside and get something done in terms of getting
to the quarterback.

Speaker 4 (28:02):
We spend a lot of time here Joe talking about, Hey,
what would make this a successful season realistically for the Panthers.
From the Jacks perspective, what do you think would make
this a good season for you guys down there?

Speaker 5 (28:15):
Yeah, I think if you take the combined win total
of Carolina and Jacksonville last year. Either would be happy
if they got there. Yeah. Really, we're talking about butt
bad towards the end of the season and and butt
bad at the end of game. They were three and ten.
Jacksonville was in one score game. So when the fourth

(28:37):
quarter win the one score game, that's type of thing.
So it may be pie in the sky if they
get to nine and eight, but that's what's won the
division the last three years run it. AFC South is
nine and eight, Jacksonville nine and eight, Houston twice. So
I believe it's doable. If they can get through the
first half of the season, go to London, come out
of there. Maybe three and four, four and three would

(28:57):
be unbelievable. A lot of big targets to pick off early.
But if you can get to nine and eight and
stay in the playoff race, well then that's the hell
of an improvement.

Speaker 2 (29:07):
Joe, can you get on the air today and tell
your listeners when they go to the game, the ones
that sit in front of the visitors owner's suite, can
you tell them to take it easy on David Tapper place.
All right, we don't we don't need a drinks flying,
all right, tell them to be nice.

Speaker 4 (29:20):
Because this time it's gonna be the fans fault. All right,
you know what's happening up there.

Speaker 5 (29:25):
Yeah, they're gonna beat him. This is this is gonna
be a basis. Listen, this is no magic lookey coming
out of the sweet or anything you guys are talking about.

Speaker 4 (29:32):
Before, we suggested the fans that sit right there need
to like some umbrellas or something.

Speaker 2 (29:38):
This time, Oh, y'all could go with that one too.
Y'all can tell your listeners wait, I should I'm not
giving I am. I giving you all that smart ass
idea all right, Jackson go back and back all right, man, Hey,
it's good to catch up with you. I'm looking forward
to doing the same thing on your show later on today. Man,
I'll talk to you then, but good to catch up
with you.

Speaker 3 (29:56):
Appreciate you, all right, always good mag attack Bone.

Speaker 5 (29:59):
You guys do all right?

Speaker 2 (30:00):
Man, be good? That is Joe Coward ten ten xl
in Jacksonville and.

Speaker 3 (30:06):
Mack and Bone change names. Well, the show used to be.

Speaker 2 (30:10):
That's how he knows me, so I don't know if
he's calling me Mac smiling, want going back to your
days by yourself. I was so young man, I was
so I was just such a I was like a
modern day James Dean.

Speaker 5 (30:24):
Man.

Speaker 3 (30:24):
I was like a sports radio James Dean.

Speaker 5 (30:27):
Y'all.

Speaker 4 (30:27):
I was a damn I really want that.

Speaker 3 (30:30):
I want to do you wear Georgetown?

Speaker 2 (30:33):
There? I was young man, I was skinny. Oh god,
those are the days. No, George, I did not. That
was the Gator fans. I didn't participate in that, all right.
I just I just thought of something as we're sitting
here talking, how many similarities between these teams are there?
Like you go way back to the fact that they
went in his expansion teams together, right, so they're always
kind of linked in that respect.

Speaker 3 (30:54):
Then you throw in the.

Speaker 2 (30:55):
Fact that we have a Tampa former Tampa coordinator who
was hired to try to fix the QB number one
draft pick QB. They have a former Tampa coordinator that's
there to fix the number one draft pick QB. Both
had bad defenses last year. I realized ours is worse. Yes,
it was worse than any Both have an ETN. Both

(31:17):
have an et that's a good call too, and.

Speaker 4 (31:20):
They both made championship games in their second year. Not
only entering the year together. They both had unbelievable runs
in year two. Both cats, we're both cats.

Speaker 2 (31:28):
There's so many similarities between the two, and it just
dawned on me.

Speaker 3 (31:33):
You you're You're a You're a commination. I'm a company.

Speaker 2 (31:36):
But it just dawned on me, this isn't the organization
you want to have all these similarities.

Speaker 4 (31:42):
I mean, I know we're one to talk. I understand
that it's it's rich coming from.

Speaker 2 (31:46):
Me, not exactly the forty nine ers history. Yeah, it's
not who you want to be compared to, but it does.
It makes the lead up kind of fascinating bone because
of all those similarities. We don't have a Travis Hunter,
but we do have our own top ten pick the
going to go up against Travis Hunter.

Speaker 3 (32:01):
You got your own Travis H right here, as we
got Travis Hday got Travis H. We got a Hunter.
We got a Hunter rent from Yeah. So anyway, I
don't know.

Speaker 2 (32:09):
We got to talk more about this game, and we
got to talk about Travis Hunter too. We hadn't really
gotten into whether or not Panther fans like they haven't
talked much about him this week, and we got to
get into that let's get into that next bone. Are
you guys going into this game with any fear factor
of Travis Hunter, Travis Hunter the wide receiver Scaria, Travis
Hunter the cornerback Scaria or not at all. We'll talk

(32:32):
about that one next macket bone Football Friday Sports Radio
ninety two to seven WFNZ.

Speaker 8 (32:52):
Well, what I will say is that when you watch
him and you watch him play offense, you can tell
that he's got a really good understanding of defensive football,
and he's got some nuance and how he runs his
routes and how he understands leverages and things of that nature.
And so I will say that, yeah, you can tell
that he understands football at a high level the way
he plays, and he's got very good athletic gifts as well.

(33:14):
And so you know it's our job to you know,
Dave will worry about him on and the offensive staff
will worry about him on defense. It's our job to
defend him on offense. And so we're just trying to
put our minds in in I guess the place of
where do we think they're gonna utilize them, Where they're
going to put him in, how are they going to
feature him those things.

Speaker 2 (33:33):
So that's as hiro Vero. He was asked about Travis Hunter.
Brad Zack was also asked about Travis Hunter. This is
a first. This is a first, man that we have
a player that will play such a factor bone for
the opposition on both sides.

Speaker 3 (33:49):
Of the ball. Hell.

Speaker 2 (33:50):
I read an article said the last player try to
do this to this extent is Roy Green.

Speaker 4 (33:54):
Remember the old cardinal Roy are you? Actually you might
be young. I know the name, but I don't. I
don't think I ever saw Hi point in nineteen eighty one,
I says, before you're born. Actually I was old. I
was born in eighty three, so I missed the old ran.

Speaker 3 (34:07):
I was eight. Damn I'm old.

Speaker 2 (34:08):
But anyway, yeah, Roy Green, and I didn't remember her
as anything but a wide receiver, so I didn't know
he even tried to do the both ways thing. I
thought you had to go all the way back to
check check Chuck benn Erek, you remember that the dude
that knocked out Frank Gifford. He was he was you know,
oh Philly they named an award after in the sixties.

Speaker 3 (34:25):
Yeah, of course that's a good point. Of course you
know the name.

Speaker 2 (34:28):
But anyway, it is so rare, it's so crazy, but
for our purposes, like we can admire him later, right
if he ends up being that dude, we can admire
him later. And I would have loved to have him
on the Panthers and all that stuff. But for this week,
y'all know this is going to be hyped up. Although
that Loogie Gate cowboy thing, it's going to take on

(34:50):
a life of its own on a guest pon the day,
but you know, Travis Hunter is going to be one
of the big storylines his debut on Sunday. So I
want to know from Panther fans, like, do you are
you worried that Travis Hunter on either side of the ball,
whether it's against Mike Jack or Horn or you know,
Smith Wade or anybody on that side of the ball,
do you fear he torches us? And then on the

(35:11):
other side, like if t Max lined up against him.

Speaker 3 (35:15):
Are you worried about that?

Speaker 2 (35:16):
Or you worried about him against legue Get Do you
have any kind of fear factor at all with Travis
Hunter in this game?

Speaker 3 (35:23):
I don't think so.

Speaker 4 (35:24):
In game number one, while he's he's gonna take a
while back, I think to adjust to this level of
play in doing what he's trying to do. So I
think they get him at the exact right time, and
I would worry more about him as a dB taking
away one of the panther weapons more so than I
would be as the wide receiver. There's a wide receiver

(35:45):
I have fear of on Jacksonville, and it's not Travis
Hunter in game number one. Hunter the dB I think
he can be. He's tough the wide out. I don't
know if I fear that just yet.

Speaker 2 (35:56):
Yeah, it's it's I personally like him more as an dB.
So when I hear Joe Coward from Jacksonville tell us
that he thinks they're going to go more all in
on offense initially to try to help Trevor and maybe
a little less maybe you know, in spots passing situations
on defense, it kind of surprises me because I kind

(36:16):
of feel like he's more of a natural dB, and
I was reading an article this week that there's people
in that organization. I think he's more of a natural dB,
but it seems like they really think they need to
help for Brian Thomas right on offense.

Speaker 3 (36:27):
I'm kind of with you. I think Brian.

Speaker 2 (36:29):
Thomas is the scariest guy on their offense, and I think,
like if J. C. Horn does travel, I realize a
barrow doesn't seem to do that near enough, if at all. Honestly, so,
I don't know if I'm expecting it, but if they
were to assign, like somebody's saying JC is gonna lock
him down, I would like to see JC.

Speaker 3 (36:46):
More on Brian Travis Thomas.

Speaker 4 (36:48):
Brian Travis, he works for the Hornets.

Speaker 5 (36:52):
He does.

Speaker 3 (36:55):
Oh god, yeah, I don't think we'd have to worry
about him in coverage.

Speaker 4 (36:59):
That is how good Travis Hunter is, though he can
Oh you said, Brian, you gotta both confuse though I did,
I can buy you're gonna say Travis Hunter can play DV.

Speaker 3 (37:07):
Why not in Boo Hornet's guests, Oh.

Speaker 2 (37:09):
Man, shout out Brian Dravis, Charlotte Horns, I had you
play a wide receiver guy, big cat, Dan says, no,
Brian Thomas Junior is the only worry.

Speaker 3 (37:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (37:19):
It's one of those where it's like, to me, we've
got to shade a double team to Thomas's side, or
you put Horn on Thomas's side, like and if if
Hunter beats us, well then we got to adjust. But
it's not one that I'm going in worrying about him
in his first game.

Speaker 3 (37:32):
I think it's a.

Speaker 2 (37:32):
Good time to get him in his first game. I
also think what Darren Gant said. Travis Kelsey said this
a while ago, but like Darren Gant said it to
us the other day, like, there's ways you can in
the in the Jacksonville heat expected to be like ninety
two degrees in the Jacksonville heat. Where's his conditioning at bone?
He had to miss a lot of time of camp
because of because of an upper body injury, So where's

(37:53):
he at? I would test that conditioning. I mean, shoot,
if we you know, run run the run deep, you
know whoever he's covering, go deep, you know, wear him out.
Then on the other side of the ball, let's try
to get physical with him, right, get up on impress
him a little bit, and let's see how much energy
he has in the Jacksonville heat in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 3 (38:13):
I think that could be a factor as well.

Speaker 4 (38:14):
Also, sustain drives, make him have to run around even
more out there on defense and take away some of
the offensive energy that he has. If you can sustain
some drive and just have him be out there on
defense even longer. Well, that's going to play your role too, Mack.
You know who's kind of a forgotten two way star
college player from our time. We hear a lot about
Charles Woodson, and I know that he did it in

(38:35):
the pros too a little bit. We don't really ever
mention how great of a two way player Champ Bailey was,
do he He won the New Girsky Award with five
defensive touchdowns led Georgian receiving at seven hundred and forty
four yards and five offensive touchdowns. We don't never really
mention him in the same vein as Charles Woodson, but
that dude was unbelievable too.

Speaker 3 (38:53):
With playbook, he.

Speaker 4 (38:54):
Was another one that was used that way. No doubt
Rose though. I guess that's the difference. Yeah, no doubt
about it, mac in Bone. We want your thoughts. Travis
Hunter is gonna be a huge story over the weekend.
You know, I'm surprised ESPN hasn't been hyping his debut
up that much yet.

Speaker 3 (39:08):
Well, that got spin on last night. Yeah, that's that's
gonna take.

Speaker 2 (39:11):
But that is that's an all hands on deck on
ESPN right now.

Speaker 4 (39:16):
ESPN never thought to just put the cowboys like on
their own like ESPN Star Networker.

Speaker 2 (39:21):
ESPN Star Baby. I'm surprised they hadn't thought.

Speaker 3 (39:24):
Of that yet.

Speaker 4 (39:25):
By the way, plaid to be partner of ESPN Radio. Here,
I'm not even there, you go, We're glad to have esple.
We're still gonna clown y'all though. Did you see some
tweets yesterday mag where there's this fear of the listeners,
and I understand that they may not understand. They think
that we have to talk cowboys and lakers all the time.
Now that should be the channel.

Speaker 2 (39:42):
The channel should be ESPN Cowboy, Laker and Yankee.

Speaker 4 (39:47):
That's what the channel show. They talked that much Yankee.
To be honest with you, anymore, they can't get in there.

Speaker 2 (39:52):
I'm gonna tell you they don't talk much baseball. They
really do not.

Speaker 3 (39:56):
Anyway.

Speaker 2 (39:56):
All right, well, let's let refocus here somebody else Rocky
and Bullwinkle, says Dak spit first at the ground. Man,
we're gonna do this all over again.

Speaker 6 (40:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (40:05):
He He might have been looking at Carter.

Speaker 2 (40:08):
He might have been saying something, but Carter was was
further away that he did not spit on him that
did not require Carter to spit on him. But anyway,
this texture says the fact that Panther fans truly are
not afraid of a freakazoid like Travis Hunter is comical.
This dude is literally going to win matchups against t
Mac and then he's gonna flip around and beat Mike

(40:29):
Jack on the other side. He hasn't played in an
NFL game yet. Listen, he's a special talent, there's no
doubt about it. But we don't know what he's going
to do. It's his again, it's his debut. I could
seebone if we're in November and it's like, whoa, this
dude's getting it, you know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (40:45):
But like, okay, let's let it rip.

Speaker 2 (40:46):
First game. You you missed the last two weeks of
the preseason. You you you missed a lot of reps
and in your in your training camp as a rookie,
I don't think he's gonna be near his best. Doesn't
mean he can't make a big play on third down
and break up a pass. Doesn't mean he might not
catch a couple of big ones on us. But I'm
with you. It's like Brian Thomas scares me more. The

(41:08):
Edges on defense, even though Joe Coward actually called him
out and said they weren't good enough last year.

Speaker 3 (41:13):
But Walker and heinz Allen worry me.

Speaker 4 (41:15):
Travis Hunter just it doesn't feel like we need to
be petrified.

Speaker 3 (41:20):
We'll see. Am I gonna regret that? I don't know.

Speaker 4 (41:22):
Zochi brought up a really good point on Monday, and
I mentioned this during the draft lead up. When you
have a guy that you're counting on at two spots
that they will like long term, we think corner and
wide receiver. If he goes down for any period of time,
even back, if he goes to the blue tent for
like a quarter, you're taking a guy away from your

(41:43):
offense and your defense. If he gets injured by in
any way, you're basically taking two players out of your lineup.
That's the scary part for Jacksonville that you're so dependent
on him at some point that even if he misses
a quarter, well, he's missing a quarter on offense and defense.
So that's a scary thing. If you're a Jacksonville than yeah,
that's that's a good point for all the good that

(42:03):
he can do. The negative is you got one player
playing two spots. That's that's tricky on the roster seven
oh four number, says Mac. Is it just me or
am I? The only one who's worries are our own team? Well,
we talked about those all summers. This is gonna talk
about other teams having it's a new conversation. Yeah, I

(42:24):
don't think that's I don't think that's a bad idea
at all. Things like Ikey probably not playing. We'll see
what he does today when they when they trot him
out there for a little bit. But yeah, that's a
big worry. The fact that Dlen and Koker aren't gonna
be there to help Bryce is a worry. And then
just the defense in general, like you know, the defensive
front's going to be better, kind of like the Jaguars,

(42:45):
they know their secondary is going to be better. Got
three new guys in the mix. But how much better,
that's the thing, And how much better right away? Bone
do the new guys take to the system right away?
Turk didn't have a great preseason.

Speaker 2 (42:57):
I didn't think, oh he didn't, you know, can he
go out there and and how about there?

Speaker 4 (43:00):
He's also a guy elevating in roll too. By the way,
Turk is much more counted on here than he was
in Kansas City because there's a lot of other dude
that had around him in Kansas City. But he's umping
his level here of usage as well. Yeah, he will,
He definitely will. And I'll say this too about Derek Brown.
Derek Brown is a bad dude, and he is the
biggest addition we make this year. It's not even close, right,

(43:22):
I've said it's like adding a star player. But his
first game back, how many snaps can he play? Remember
his his Pro Bowl Yearbone, he was playing like something ridiculous,
ninety percent of the snaps unheard of for a defensive tackle. Yeah,
and what percentage can we play him now?

Speaker 8 (43:39):
Now?

Speaker 2 (43:39):
We probably don't have to play him as much, Bone
because we have more depth there and a lot of
guys will come off and knee injury like that bone,
they won't necessarily be at their best right away. So
I think that's, you know, something that's got me a little.
You know, how good is he gonna be? It's a
fair point. It's his first game back, he's in the
Jacksonville heat. Like, how much does dB might end up

(43:59):
wearing down throughout the game. That's another concern I have
about this bat.

Speaker 4 (44:02):
Yea ninety statut him a player, but just in that
environment game one, and that's a.

Speaker 3 (44:08):
Lot does I think.

Speaker 2 (44:09):
I think you have to concede he will not just
pick up right where he left, you know what I mean,
Like what he left. He was actually picking up players
like Demby had Kamara, like in the uh In oppressed
rag doll in dudes, just rag doll in dudes in
that Pro Bowl season. So does it take a while
to ramp up to that too. So these are things
I'm worried about our pass rush. But again, and we'll
get into this next. The pass rush bone I think
will improve if you can actually slow the run on

(44:33):
first down and get them the second along, get them
the third and long. I think all of a sudden
we'd be amazed that the pass rush can improve, just
because last year guys didn't. They never got the third long,
you know what I mean. It was they got the
first down on first or second down, or it was
like third and two, and they just right up the
gut on our asses, you know, So get them the
freaking third and long.

Speaker 3 (44:54):
Man.

Speaker 4 (44:54):
That's first half that first game in twenty fifteen. That
set the stage for the rest of the season. Am
I not a mistake?

Speaker 5 (45:00):
Did it?

Speaker 3 (45:00):
Josh Norman debut the horse ride.

Speaker 2 (45:02):
In that game, The Delta, Yeah, the Delta Celebration Tick six.

Speaker 4 (45:06):
Twenty twenty five. We have another guy that can do
a horse ride. Ten years later, ten years later, can
can excel do a horse ride in Jacksonville?

Speaker 2 (45:13):
Litt Dala Bill, Little Dalla Bill, Little din piece ride?
Baby Oh? That would be so nice? That would that
be symmetry bone.

Speaker 4 (45:21):
When we come back. Who's panthering up? Who you got
baby panthers? Jacksonville? Which way we gonna go? Sports Radio
