Owen's Mack and Foe on your radio, BAF.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
You listen to my freeing back Posh, Come on, posh?
Speaker 1 (00:10):
This in my freem t Bone.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
What's up the fun?
Speaker 1 (00:14):
I can't go to work without listening to Mac and
Bone do a lot.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Sports Radio ninety two seven WFNZ Mac and Bone with you.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Happy Friday, everybody.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
We got a Panther bye week, but we're still getting
ready to talk to Carolina Panther football here in a minute.
We got championship weekend ACC here in Charlotte.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Will there be chaos? Is Bone right?
Speaker 3 (00:44):
Will Duke create even more freaking chaos?
Speaker 2 (00:49):
A lot of people going with that theory.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Bone that went in doubt picked the outcome that will
mean the biggest mess when it comes to ACC football.
We'll talk about some of the NFL games too before
we get out of here.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
How about them.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
Cowboys losing last night, taking the win out of the
sales all those national media members Bone that thought the
Boys are ready for a run.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
Man, you'll twin for the line you'll never guess back.
Speaker 4 (01:11):
The ESPN shows right now eight o'clock are focused on
the state of.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
The Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
They've got a get up right now has a twelve
person panel.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Oh my god, to figure out what's going on? Is
it okay?
Speaker 4 (01:24):
Ken?
Speaker 3 (01:25):
They rally look at this, Bart Scott looks sad. Is
there any there?
Speaker 4 (01:28):
It is?
Speaker 3 (01:28):
I knew it is there any for the Cowboys to
make the playoffs? I mean, you do know they could
play the playoffs without the Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
They just did it. You do know they could do that?
Speaker 3 (01:37):
National media, Oh my god, it's annoying. All right, anyway,
let's lock into our Carolina Panthers, who are now, as
you pointed out, Bone, ahead of the team we beat
by the way the Cowboys in the in the hunt graphic.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
I just want to point that out national media.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Yesterday, Bone, a regional media member and in state media member,
got the eye up of a lot of Panther fans,
but he surprisingly had a lot of Panther fans defending
him after he made these comments. I'm talking about Adam Gold.
I want to talk about Dave Canalis and how much
credit do y'all think he deserves for the major improvement
(02:14):
since he took over this team, because I just feel
like that there are many in our fan base, Bone
that don't want to give him much credit at all,
and I just don't understand why. If you want to
say he shouldn't be Rookie of the Year or Coach
the Year, I'd agree with you. If you want to
say he shouldn't be in the top five, I'd push
(02:35):
back on that. Adam Gold literally laughed bow when you
asked about Dave Canalis his Coach of the Year case,
and then he went on to basically try to say
I think he did actually at one point say that
they are doing it despite their head coach and just
listen to this. This is a little bit of our guy,
Adam Gold from ninety nine to nine to fan in Raleigh's.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Idiotic, idiotic.
Speaker 5 (02:59):
Oh look, they have until this past week.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
This is He's had two weeks this.
Speaker 5 (03:07):
Year where I think he has done an exceptional job
the Green.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
Bay game and this past week.
Speaker 5 (03:16):
Other than that, I think they have done everything in
spite of him. I get his We are so prisoner
of the record and where we.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
Thought this team would be. It is ludicrous.
Speaker 5 (03:29):
Like I am, I'm thrilled that they finally in week
thirteen figured.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Out how their offense should run.
Speaker 5 (03:39):
It only took Dames until week thirteen to come up
with how they should They should be a run heavy,
downfield passing team. You're this is the first time they've
done it where they'll let let Bryce when they get thrilled,
they let him throw the ball down the field. Yay,
that's the it should work.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
So there you go. They've done it in spite of
Dave Canal. See that's the thing. If you want to
say he should have Coach of the Year, I'm not
really going to argue because I probably wouldn't put him
ahead of Rabel and Ben Johnson.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
Hard to do that right now, but.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
In the top and Shanahan with all their injuries, and
they stuck it to us head to head. But like
the disrespect where and Adam had a lot of people
with him. Some guys texted yesterday and said, Adam's right.
This team is carrying their head coach. That's what bothers me.
Like the complete culture has changed over there, the complete
(04:35):
vibe has changed over their bone and that can't be
in spite of its head coach.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
Yeah, the Bears in the Patriots to lead their respective
conferences right now. So it's hard, it's hard to really
not give the credit there the Vrabel and Ben Johnson
for what they've done. Matt going, I know this is
a Coach of the Year award for this year or
a credit to this year, I should say for Dave Canalis, Well,
do you think about the totality of events that happened
(05:00):
over the last two seasons when Bryce Young got here,
excuse me, when Dave Canalys arrived on the scene back
would you say that Bryce Young was dangerously close to
potentially being a bust like he was headed towards that territory.
He had a horrendous rookie year, and then he got
off to a rough start, got benched.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
The fact that.
Speaker 4 (05:20):
Dave Canalis has been able to I wouldn't say a
full rehabilitation like Baker and Darnold had along the way,
but the fact that they could get Bryce to even
this level where we're talking about fifty year options and contracts.
That's not all just Bryce going out there and saying,
hey guys, I'm morning stuff here.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
That is coaching.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
That is Dave canais tapping in mentally into the physical aspects.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
Of the game to get Bryce better.
Speaker 4 (05:47):
So, yeah, you could say that he's got moments with
coaching that you can question, but don't discount the work
that he's done here with Bryce Young over the last
two seasons.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
Yeah, listen, do I think he's perfect? No, But I
just think he deserves a lot the credit. Like, listen,
look at the San Francisco game plan. Of course, he's
not perfect, right, and he's been inconsistent, and he himself
has admitted to still learning.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
He's a young head coach. He's still a young play caller.
It's only his third year of being a play caller
in this league. So I think you're seeing some growing
pains with him, as you are the whole young team.
But I just look bone at the progress they have
made each year since he took over from that abomination
of the Frank Reich year. They are probably going to
(06:30):
at least quadruple their wins from the year before he
got there in two years, if not more than that.
They are finally a functioning, competent organization that's not a
train wreck and embarrassment and a punchline.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
There's a culture. I think an identity is being built.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
I just think often think identities aren't built bone in
a linear fashion. Sometimes there are setbacks to that. I
think he lost the identity in the San Francisco game.
But I think they're building an identity of a team
that wants to pound of football. Bryce is, by the way,
the fourth highest rated deep passer according to PFF this year.
So a lot of his numbers bone are not great,
(07:08):
They're around twentieth or so of the league, but that
deep passing grade is very good. His big time throw
percentage on deep passes very good. So I do think
they're getting there to forming that identity. And I also
think you can look at some of the things Bone like,
because I know the offense is what people look at.
This team's actually averaging like a like a little bit
(07:30):
less points per game than last year. Believe it or not,
they averaged twenty game last year. It's nineteen and change
this year. But look at what they've overcome. The offensive
line injuries have been ridiculous. Him and his staff, him
and good Ian Gilbert, are able to manage that. The
wide receiver inconsistencies of a young receiving corps.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
They've been able to manage that.
Speaker 3 (07:48):
They trade feeling away, they take a veteran away, right,
but these young guys they're inconsistent, but they've been able
to manage that Bryce's inconsistencies too, do not help the
play caller. Do I think he's a perfect play call yet? No,
the defense has improved. He wanted a Varo here both
off seasons, stuck with him, wanted to hear to stay
the first time.
Speaker 4 (08:08):
Offensive line's been in flux and it hasn't affected the
team that much. Yeah, I brought down that's another thing
too that comes to to that that it's not all
about necessary. Yes, Wednesday and losses are the bottom line,
but there's little things in there that we pay attention
to about Canals and this team day in and day out,
that they he and the staff need credit for now.
Walker the other day had a great question about Dan
(08:31):
Morgan and his rank in terms of Executive of the Year.
That's something we got to dive into at some point
as well. Macre, Well, yeah, I'm not that Dan Morgan's doing.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
One of the things that Goldie said was like, because
I pressed him on it, like, who do you give
the credit for? You can't improve this much as a
team since he got here, and someone's got to get
credit for it? Is it just happening by accident. I'm
sure he doesn't want to rush out and give David
Tepper credit, although Tepper does give credit for hiring Dan
and Dave and getting out of the way, but eventually
(08:59):
he got to Dan Morgan and says, I'd give Dan
Morgan more credit. If you give Dan Morgan more credit
than Dave Canalis, I have no problem with that. The
personnel has been upgraded in a major fashion on both lines.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
You can't deny it.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
Look at this recent draft and all the rookies that
have contributed, including two the two or three that weren't
three that weren't even drafted.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
So yeah, if that's.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
Your argument, give Dan Morgan more credit, that's fine. What
I'm saying is the people that like the words doing
it in spite of Dave Canalis.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
That feels very unfair. That's not right.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
As far as Dan Morgan for executive year, I guess
I'd have to study other executives that are candidates a
little bit more bony, you know what I mean.
Speaker 4 (09:38):
Yeah, that's more difficult. I feel like, if if.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
Dan's if we believe Dan's top five coach of the year,
Dan Morgan's at least like top three, four or five executive.
Wouldn't you think with the draft he had and the
defensive additions.
Speaker 4 (09:52):
You would think, so absolutely, I think he has to
be although again I mean it goes to the Patriots
execs and the Bears exacts, though that's going to be
very similar probably in that in that world of who
gets a lot of credit for their turnarounds. But like,
but I think in New England it's it's seen as
Rabel and Drake May right. Yeah, I know they added
(10:13):
Milton Williams. I know that bone because I thought we
were adding him at one at one point Chicago. Who,
like I would have to look at who those teams
added personnel wise their success, like I think you would
attribute to Ben Johnson's influence on the culture and on Williams. Right, Yes,
but I do think, Dan Morgan, I think the personnel
(10:34):
has been majorly upgrade. I will say this though, like
Adam was, Adam said he would give the personnel the credit,
not Dave Canalis and anyone wanted to say, Dan Morgan,
I don't are reacting like this is some elite personnel
here in Carolina, because I feel like they're still in
the middle of the process bone in creating great personnel
all around.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
Right, Yeah, well it's gotten better, but it's still in
the middle.
Speaker 4 (10:56):
Well, there's still questions about some of Dan Morgan's first draft,
right Excel Brooks, of course has the injuries. So while
he's hit on certain things, there's actually high draft choices.
Now we're still waiting to not te bag but Excel
and Jonathan Brooks. There's other high draft choices that we're
still trying to figure out exactly what they are. So
and that could go either way.
Speaker 6 (11:16):
You know.
Speaker 4 (11:17):
That could be one where it's like, Wow, he hit
on those but it took a while. Or that could
be like, yikes, that trade for Brooks, that draft Pickaback Salo.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
We don't know yet.
Speaker 4 (11:24):
No, I mean, Excel's not really trending necessarily in the
right direction. Jonathan Brooks we have no clue yet because
the injuries. That could be a problem or not. We
don't know yet.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
There's gonna be a conversation that we're gonna have to
circle back to about Rico Dowdell. I did Jonathan Brooks thing.
As much as I like his talent, I don't know
if you can bank on him being the backup him
at etn BE in the backup show. Person wrote about
this boningus mail bag. I wonder if they're going to
try to keep Rico and Cuba keep Chico together. I
(11:54):
think a lot of it could depend on how the
season finishes, and do they appear to be this great
balanced duo like they were finally last week. Yeah, but
I wonder if they would look to do that. I
think that's something we have to talk about. Bicycle heard
with an interesting comment here. He says, have y'all noticed
t mac only has one last drop that XL did
last year. He's been great, but I really haven't heard
(12:16):
anybody complaining about his drops like they did XL. Probably
because of the timing of exales. I think it's because
t mac all is almost double XL's rookie yards right
now with four games to go. Like, I think that's
the that's the big difference is t mac has produced
XCEL didn't produce enough bone to make up for the
drops well, and he even brought the timing the Philly drop.
Speaker 2 (12:39):
But we have mentioned it.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
We have mentioned that as good as XL's year is,
he has left some out there.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
Mac T Mac.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
Yeah, T mac has left whatever I'm trying to say,
T mac has left some out there.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
There is no denying it. You know there's room to
grow for him.
Speaker 4 (12:54):
Mac. We're gonna have back to back great broadcaster, great
broadcasters coming on. Sean mcdo of ABC ESPN will join
us to preview the ACC Championship game tomorrow night, and
then we have a roundtable with DVR, Dave Caller, Red,
and Fitty Marlowe Sean McDonough. Mack has to be honored
to be the lead into those guys, right, But we'll
(13:14):
ask Sean next about these the all that surrounds Duke Virginia,
what to expect in the game and more. Sports Radio
ninety seven WFNZ.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
Sports Radio ninety seven WFNZ.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
Interesting break here in the studios on a football Friday.
Bone turned around and realized Fitty was massaging my neck
and shoulders. This dude really does do everything for us.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
Bone.
Speaker 4 (13:50):
Here at WFAX, they all know what was going on there.
I'm just trying to write down questions about the game
tomorrow for Tron McDonough and I'm getting interrupted by nonsense here.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
Well he offered it.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
At first, I was like, that's awkward, and then I
was like, my shoulders and neck area are so sore.
Speaker 2 (14:05):
I said, the hell with it. Feels like you got it.
Felt good, dude.
Speaker 4 (14:08):
Feels like you got a stress point there in your Yeah,
there's something's going on, man, talking you would stress yourself out.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
All am.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
I stressed over It's Panther bye week. I don't know
what the Penn State coaching search Priace is doing it
to me, that's probably what it is. Embarrassing the hell
out of my squad. All right, anyway, let's focus here.
Sean McDonough is not here Bone for stress relief tips. Oh,
if he has any, I would take them. I would
definitely take them. But he is here to talk. This
is probably stressing him out these appearances. Yeah, he's gonna
(14:36):
need a massage after this appearance on this show.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
But he's here to talk.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
I'm sure about the state of college football, the whole
playoff situation, but specifically the ACC title game. He will
be on the call with Greg McElroy Molly McGrath here
in Charlotte Bank of America Stadium tomorrow night for Virginia and Duke,
and he's nice enough to join us here on the
Mack and Bone Show. Sean, what's going on, man, how
you been well?
Speaker 6 (15:00):
I'm all right, I'm doing better. Than your Penn State
Nitney Lyons.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
At the moment, I think that's embarrassing and fine, that
is embarrassed.
Speaker 6 (15:08):
Always excited to be here in Charlotte, although it's a
little gloomy so far this morning, but we're excited to be.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
Here, all right. Good deal man?
Speaker 3 (15:16):
What you and you enter into an extremely chaotic situation
here with the ACC? I mean, and I guess it
wouldn't be the ACC, wouldn't be the all chaos conference
without some chaos. What do you think about the season
that the ACC has had, about having a five lost
team in the in the title game? I mean, how
(15:38):
the ACC always wants respect nationally. This season is not
going to help that cause, is it?
Speaker 6 (15:44):
Well, you know, maybe not. I think Miami's really good.
We had their game at the beginning of the year
against Notre Dame, which they won, which is obviously, you know,
their biggest talking point for trying to get into the
college football playoffs field. And it'll be interesting to see
what happens with them when this whole plays out over
the weekend. But yeah, the tiebreaker was interesting. You know,
(16:04):
they they all agreed to it, right, I guess that
And I'm told that other conferences use the same procedures.
So even though it happened to the ACC from what
I understand, it could have happened in a number of
other conferences too. So I like it. You know, I
just enjoy storylines and talking points, and you know, there's
(16:26):
a lot for us to talk about on Saturday nights,
that's sure.
Speaker 4 (16:30):
What what do you think of the job that Tony
Elliott did this year and getting Virginia to the spot.
Speaker 6 (16:36):
Yeah, he's done a fantastic job. You know, the they
won eleven games his first three years, they've already won ten,
so if they win tomorrow night, they could match, you know,
the total from his previous three years. He really has
built a program. Obviously, the transfer portal makes it easier
to turn things around for any college football program that
has the resources and identifies the right people in the
(16:58):
portal to bring and in their case, you know, they
brought in I think it's thirty two first year players
and obviously the most important guy as a quarterback is
Chandler Morris has been a difference maker. And I think
when you look around at you know, at these programs
that have turned it around quickly, one of the common
denominators is you have to have the quarterback. So he's
done a great job and they're an excellent team. You know,
(17:21):
they're a top twenty team, and I think they are
one of the top twenty teams in the country.
Speaker 2 (17:27):
Sean McDonald's with us tomorrow night.
Speaker 3 (17:29):
He's called in the ACC title game here in Charlotte
on ABC eight o'clock. Sean, let's talk about Duke because
even though they're a five lost team and that's been
the big talk, and oh my god, if Duke wins,
is the ACC missout entirely? They're a three and a
half point dog like and I know Virginia got him
by seventeen last time, but Vegas clearly thinks this is
(17:51):
a good, you know, tight matchup. What do you think
about this Duke team and their chances tomorrow night.
Speaker 6 (17:58):
Yeah, I think they're very talented and they've had a
very good year. On offense. We talk about going to
the portal and getting a quarterback, and they did a
great job bringing Darien Mensa over from two lane. You know,
he set the school record for touchdown passes. He's a
leading passer in the league. So, uh, they are a
dangerous team, you know, Manny Diaz has talked about the
five losses, but you know, they've lost the two ten
(18:20):
win teams to nine win teams and an eight win team,
and that's true, So you know, it's not like you're
sitting there looking at the record saying, oh gosh, how
could you lose to that team? Everybody they lost. Everybody
likes to talk about Yukon. You know, Yukon went nine
to three, and you know, Jim Moore wound up getting
the Kolorado State job for the great job that he
did there. So I know some people look at it
(18:41):
and say, Yukon, Wow, what a terrible loss, but they
actually had a pretty good team this year, so you
know they're dangerous. I agree with you. I just got
done watching the tape of their regular season game against
Virginia from four weeks ago, and Virginia totally dominated the game.
And if you watch that, you'd say, how would the
point spread the three and a half? But I think
(19:02):
that game was an aberration. You know, Manny Diaz has
said that was their worst game of the year by far,
and I haven't watched all of them that I'm guessing
that it was.
Speaker 4 (19:09):
Yeah, Sean, how how do you think Duke enters this
game from a pressure standpoint because they kind of backdoored
their way in with Miami. Excuse me, with SMU losing
the col Do you think that Duke can come into
this game sort of free in mind of the thought of, hey,
no one thought we were going to be here anyway.
Speaker 6 (19:28):
Yeah, I would think so. I mean, when they lost
the regular season game to Virginia, you know, almost a
month ago, I'm just reading our ESPN notes, the ESPN
analytics had them with a ten percent chance of making
it to the championship game. And then I was watching
last Saturday night in remembat Virginia was playing Virginia Tech
(19:49):
at basically the same time that sm YOU was playing
at col and I made my annual visit to my gym,
and they had both games on the TV next to
each other, so I was on elliptical setting the cobwebs.
I was able to watch both of them. And you know,
at one point cal was ahead thirty one to fourteen,
and You're thinking, okay, how good sm do you have
(20:11):
this happen? And they actually rallied take the lead, and
I thought, okay, as I'm using and you know, Duke
had some hope there for a little while, and then
Cal went down the field and won the game. So yeah,
I wasn't looking very bright for Duke. I have to
feel like they feel like this is almost a bonus
and expectations are low, and what a great chance now,
you know, to go out there and win a conference championship.
Speaker 3 (20:33):
All right, I'm going to do something here. This is risky, Sean.
I'm going to ask you to get in the mind
of the committee. All right, this is this is a
this is a scary exercise. You mentioned that you know,
you think Miami's really good, and they've certainly looked the
last few weeks. Man, they have shown you what they're
capable of doing. Do you think there is a chance
that Miami still gets in or do you think it's
(20:54):
inevitable they're kind of blocked out, Like do you think
they would end up flipping? Like if No and Miami
get back to back, you think they'd end up flipping them?
And then saying now they're close enough to head to head, like,
what's your guess?
Speaker 6 (21:06):
Well, that kind of feels like they were setting up
that possibility. I mean, they they moved Alabama ahead of
Notre Dame. And you know, now, I think the argument
was going to be, well, now Miami and Notre Dame
are right next to each other in the ranking, so
we're going to compare the two of them. Had to
head more closely in the head to head obviously goes
(21:27):
to Miami. So I think they've, at least the way
they positioned it this last week, set it up for
a chance to do that. You know, my I would
think in their minds they probably don't want to have
a college football playoff without an ACC team. So I
don't know if this is the defense mechanism. Okay, if
(21:48):
Duke wins, we can't take them, let's put Miami in.
I'm not saying that that's their mindset, but at least
the possibility in my mind.
Speaker 4 (21:56):
Yes, Sean, I'm curious your take on something related to
the game tomorrow, but something I'm sure you have an
opinion on, and that's the Bill Belichick start here at
North Carolina year one.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
I ask you that because you're a.
Speaker 4 (22:10):
College football broadcaster, but you have such deep ties to
Boston where you're from. Your dad obviously one of the
great media members ever in Boston, so you have knowledge
of what's going on there? What's your take on from
what you know of Belichick to what he is now
as the college coach and all that surrounded him here
in year one.
Speaker 6 (22:30):
Yeah, we haven't had a game one of their games.
Matter of fact, we haven't had an ACC game this year,
except as we mentioned, Miami plane Notre Dame at the
beginning of the year, which was not a conference game obviously,
so I haven't been there up close, but obviously read
about a lot of it from a distance, and obviously
in Boston and New England it still gets a lot
(22:50):
of attention because there's a lot of interest in Bill
Belichick given the long and excellent history that he had
in New England. So yeah, obviously it's really messing and
it hasn't gone particularly well on the field, as we
just talked about, though that can change fast at any
one of these bulls if you do the right things
in the portal you have the resources to do it.
(23:11):
So yeah, I wouldn't totally give up hope that this
is not going to go well, but obviously it has
not gone very well on or off the field so far.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
Not at all.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
What did you think before we let you go? What
did you think about the whole Lane Kiffins and soap
opera and saga that ended up with fans flipping him
the bird and screaming obscenities as he was at the
airport getting out of town. Did you feel like Lane
deserved all the heat he got or do you blame
more the college football calendar?
Speaker 2 (23:43):
How'd you view that thing?
Speaker 6 (23:45):
I think a little bit of both. I do think
the calendar is unfortunate, but yeah, I don't think he
handled it very well either. And you know, it's too
bad because I think a lot of us. I watched
that documentary that ESPN did at the beginning of the season,
I thought, well, you know, he really he is maturing
and he's become a different guy. And uh, and then
everything that happened we lead you to believe, you know,
(24:07):
maybe he is in fact still more self directed than
he needs to be. So uh, you know, there was
just so much of it. If you want to leave, leave,
that's fine, but you know, to drag it out for
a couple of extra days. While it seemed like you
were trying to convince the administration to let you also
coach the Old Miss team and the playoff, you know,
(24:28):
the calendar thinks, but it is what it is. You
made the decision to go, so go, you know, uh
uh yeah. At college athletics, there's so much that needs
to be fixed, and you know that's just some of
that is just an example of a few of the
things that need to be fixed.
Speaker 2 (24:44):
I don't think we can't.
Speaker 6 (24:46):
Didn't cover himself in glory, but no. Part of it
too is the calendar.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
Yeah, I agree.
Speaker 3 (24:50):
I don't think we have the time to fix college athletics,
and I think we need to let you go.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
All right.
Speaker 3 (24:55):
If we held you over, we'd be here all weekend
and you've got a game to call tomorrow night. Uh,
listen to Sean. Watch Sean and uh Greg McElroy, Miley
McGrath acc title game here in Charlotte ABC at A
thank you, Sean.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
We appreciate you. Jean you all right, be good. There
you go. That is Sean McDonough. I think it's good.
Speaker 4 (25:14):
I think it's good that he's on the game because
it does feel like when he's involved in a game,
it does have a big game feel.
Speaker 2 (25:20):
So I like him.
Speaker 4 (25:21):
Got five losses, there's a lot of negative energy towards
that matchup. Like with him on the game. I think
there is a respect thing there with him on a
call like that. I like that crew. I like McElroy two.
I think he's good.
Speaker 3 (25:33):
Who in the world, who on earth would say a
bad thing about Molly McGrath. I mean, seriously, you talk
about in America's sweetheart type woman. But that's a pretty
good crew for the game. It is, and hopefully I
think the game can be good, game will be competing,
The game can be good. And there is drama there,
It's just it's not the kind of drama the acc
once right, it's it's not what they want.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
What was I thinking here? Okay, real quick, what did
your two things here?
Speaker 3 (25:58):
There's a text that somebody said about fitting massaging me
that I must circle back to here at some point.
But first though, he kind of said he thought that
the committee jumped Alabama over Notre Dame so that maybe
if BYU loses, it sets up Notre Dame in Miami
are right next to each other, and then you can say,
now we're applying the head to head. Now we can
(26:20):
they're close enough, now now we can jump. Do you
think that's why they put Alabama ahead, or do you
think it was to give them bone some wiggle room
so that if Alabama lost the title game, they can
still drop on the spot and they could still sign.
Speaker 4 (26:31):
I think it's all about the wiggle room. I don't
think that they're we know how the committee and everyone
feels about Notre Dame. Also, I don't think they're looking
to necessarily get Notre Dame jumped here. I think they
want them in. They know what they mean, So I
don't think they're looking at this like how can we
get rid of Notre Dame here?
Speaker 3 (26:48):
You think they want to just keep taking the heat
and get the big cash cow Notre Dame in their playoffs? Yes,
I think see that's I think if they were if
it was like b whyt, if it was a BYU
Miami situation, I'd tell all, yeah, the Miamy'd already be passed.
If it was BYU that lost to Miami head to head,
they'd already be passed. I don't think they're looking at us,
how can we get Notre Dame out of here? They're
(27:10):
trying to get Notre Dame in there.
Speaker 6 (27:11):
See.
Speaker 2 (27:11):
What do you think about that? Fitty?
Speaker 3 (27:12):
Because some people think McDonough things that they are eventually
the pressure is so much publicly that this head to
head thing would look terrible if they didn't honor it.
So they're trying to work Notre Dame back towards Miami,
and then there are things will be now we can
use the head to head. Do you think that or
you agree with Bone that they have no designs on
taking Notre Dame out of there.
Speaker 7 (27:34):
Yeah, I don't see them leaving Notre Dame out because
I think Notre Dame is deserving to be in there.
I think Notre Dame is one of the ten best
at large or one of the ten best teams in
the country. So I get the head to head thing,
and I've argued that for Miami's case, but I think
the only way that they both get in is if
BYU gets beat, which I think tax is gonna be
beat BYU. And I think Miami needs Alabamas to get
(27:57):
blown out. I think they need a thirty four seven
type of game. I think they need that game to
be over in the middle of the third quarter, because
I thought they moved Alabama up to kind of just
ensure that if they lost close, they could keep them in.
Speaker 2 (28:09):
That's kind of how I.
Speaker 3 (28:10):
Took it Kawhi laugh says, if you hate BYU, just
say it because the numbers say BYU is better. My
eyes have seen BYU play and my eyes have seen
Notre Dame in Miami play. I don't think BYU is
better than either team. I don't think they are either.
Like I just you can talk about wins that are
ranked or whatever. Like BYU beat Utah in the Holy
Warn it was really tight. I don't think Utah's look
(28:32):
great lately. No, I don't really think so. I just
I don't think much of the big twelve teams outside
of Texas Tech, and I would expect Texas Tech to
molly wop BYU tomorrow. If I'm wrong, it won't be
the first time, and I will eat that crow. Kawhi laugh.
I will eat that crow. But that's my feeling on BYU.
Speaker 2 (28:52):
Mac.
Speaker 4 (28:52):
I have an important update for you on Matt Campbell
in Iowa State Penn State situation.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
Right now, he's got the race.
Speaker 4 (28:59):
No Iowa farmer has offered Matt Campbell free before wife
Oh State in Iowa State, and he says, you have
to say that I was just gonna I was gonna
turn Penn State down anyway. That's it's the vogue thing
to do, all right, real quick. We got a text
from Jeff who says, you guys crack me up.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
Your workplace must be one of one.
Speaker 3 (29:19):
There is no way I could sit there in my
cubicle at work have another man massage me and not
be judged. That's as weird. You guys do weird things
like that on the regular. You guys crack me up.
Speaker 4 (29:36):
If Max's net hurt, someone's gotta give him.
Speaker 3 (29:40):
A I odd, like, do you usually not walk past
two dude co workers and one is given a next
shoulder massage to the other.
Speaker 4 (29:48):
I mean the fact I didn't even pay attention to it.
I'm just over here. I'm over here out.
Speaker 7 (29:53):
If they think that's odd, Mac, how about the fact
that every show I'll go and get you water like
I am basically your butler.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
That's the thing is fitting. It is so helpful. If
you many called and woke me up today when I overslept,
I think getting it. It's getting creepy in some ways.
Speaker 4 (30:07):
I think getting a person water is not really the
same as a neck massade.
Speaker 7 (30:12):
Which you should see the looks I get at the
vending machine because I go down to get me a soda,
and then I have this weird cup in my hand,
and I then fill up with water and then I'm
the fat ass walking back to the studio with a
soda and the water.
Speaker 2 (30:24):
In my hand.
Speaker 4 (30:26):
Also might be the fact that you wear shorts in
the winter, but yet you went you wear at the boggin.
Speaker 2 (30:30):
Also, Kyle Bailey was a palling at my get up yesterday.
Speaker 4 (30:33):
Why don't you wear why do you wear shorts in
the winter? I don't wear pants people that do that?
It bothers me.
Speaker 6 (30:38):
Back.
Speaker 4 (30:39):
I see people walking down the street my neighborhood wearing
short my kid, I mean, Matt Junior does that. But
that's what a lot of these knucklehead high school boys do, right,
They just, for whatever reason, like wearing shorts and don't
like wearing long pants a grown man, though, So are
we asking what's weird behavior? Fitty agreeing to massage me
or Fitty wearing shorts when it's forty degrees out bump?
Speaker 3 (30:58):
Yes, yes it a tie. Is everything that Finny does
that is weird just tied?
Speaker 7 (31:04):
Well, yesterday mac ow is wearing shorts a polo, it's
a boggin.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
And then I had my and then.
Speaker 7 (31:12):
I had my jacket with me because when I went
to go crank my truck it was thirty degrease.
Speaker 2 (31:16):
I wore the jackets.
Speaker 3 (31:18):
The shorts are one thing, but like you're right, Bone,
he was like cold weather on the top, Maui on
the bottom.
Speaker 2 (31:26):
You know what I mean. It was a weird mix.
We all have a pouch to keep us warm.
Speaker 7 (31:30):
Man, Oh why why poor FLOUNDI man kangaroo yesterday, every
thinking out of his shirt.
Speaker 4 (31:36):
Every segment ends with either Flounder or Willie getting astray,
and it's gotta stop.
Speaker 2 (31:40):
That's enough. Actually, never stopped, Like I have a joint.
Speaker 4 (31:44):
When we come back on the mac, begs, come on
Panther Round Table time Red. That's right, my man call
her Red. DVR Dave and the man they call Fitteroal
Marlow are all involved in the Round Table Sports Radio
a WFZ.
Speaker 3 (32:12):
Sports Radio ninety two seven WFNZ macimbone with you having
a good time on a Friday. No Panther game this week,
we get to sit back and root for the Saints.
I don't know if that's gonna be fruitful as they
take on the Bucks this week, but we do get
to sit back watch the rest of the NFL Watch
Championship weekend.
Speaker 2 (32:29):
But it doesn't mean bone.
Speaker 3 (32:30):
Our minds are not on the Carolina Panthers, And right
now we are gonna put some of the greatest Carolina
Panther mindes out there to work.
Speaker 2 (32:37):
It is. It is. I got no no, no no,
I six straight from.
Speaker 4 (32:43):
Boat No No. I met like you are in this
with the callers. It's not just the caller. Oh, it
came out the wrong way. I met. You are in
this two fitties, I did. It came out the wrong way.
I respect you, I love you. Neck massage next break
bone you. This has to be a fitty's trade record.
This is I'm not saying something that wasn't intentional straight.
(33:04):
It came out right. It came out straight.
Speaker 5 (33:07):
All right.
Speaker 4 (33:07):
I just came from university. It wasn't that. I wouldn't
do that to my guy here. All right, all right,
let's do this, y'all. Let's do a Panther fan round table.
And let's start this off by bringing on a new
collar bone that we wanted. Our rotation of friends and
mac and Bone show, friends and family. We're talking about
(33:29):
red ladies and gentlemen. Red is in the house. Red,
how you feeling, man.
Speaker 1 (33:35):
Man doing a lot better than Monday.
Speaker 2 (33:37):
Man, try to call you guys.
Speaker 1 (33:38):
Got stuck at eighty five, two flat tires, two.
Speaker 2 (33:41):
Nails at my ties, and my battery was dead.
Speaker 1 (33:42):
Man, the car's living.
Speaker 2 (33:43):
Gotta get a new one. That's a horrible way to
start the week. You are right, man.
Speaker 4 (33:46):
We tried to send some people out there to get you,
but I don't know if it worked out or not.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
Man, nobody guessing, Kelly want to help me? Man, I
got you move out of there, all right?
Speaker 3 (33:56):
Red, Well, hey, we're glad to have you here talking
Panthers football and a man that is been a long
established member, heck, long established member of the friends and
family of WFNZ in general. Bone is DVR Dave the
man himself, DVR Dave.
Speaker 2 (34:10):
Are you ready to round table? Baby?
Speaker 1 (34:12):
Listen, you guys had to call in. You didn't say
anything about working. What am I missing here? What work?
Speaker 2 (34:25):
He tickle bones funny bone on that one there.
Speaker 3 (34:27):
All right, let's do this, baby, Let's get into it.
Speaker 2 (34:31):
Let's start this round table foot.
Speaker 1 (34:34):
I can hear him in the background. I can hear
him in the background.
Speaker 5 (34:37):
I want.
Speaker 2 (34:41):
All right, doing a laugh off right now, Bone all right,
well they said I don't laugh at his jokes, and
now I am. Okay, okay, hold Daddy Red and Dave Man.
Speaker 3 (34:49):
All right, Fitty also joining these two gentlemen on the
Panther fan round table. Let's start with Red Red. Are
the Panthers going to the playoffs?
Speaker 1 (35:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (35:00):
Man, We're gonna go to the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
Man, we're splitting against Tampa.
Speaker 2 (35:04):
Uh hear me?
Speaker 1 (35:06):
Minute from last time? Go lose Seattle though, Seattle beat us?
Speaker 3 (35:10):
So hold on, how are they gonna go to playoffs?
If they only go too and two? The rest it away?
Speaker 1 (35:15):
Tampa goes go on to losing street.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
Okay, I like it.
Speaker 3 (35:19):
Alright, you only win one more game, only one more
win for Tampa mine.
Speaker 2 (35:24):
That would be a Christmas gift? Right, How long you've
been a Panther fan?
Speaker 1 (35:27):
For man, it's just about nineteen ninety nine, buddy, all right,
guess what was here?
Speaker 5 (35:33):
Man?
Speaker 1 (35:33):
I was there, SIFA guy, John Fox Rivera.
Speaker 2 (35:36):
Now these other guys, I like Canal. He's doing a
little better.
Speaker 4 (35:39):
Are you?
Speaker 2 (35:40):
Are you from Charlotte.
Speaker 4 (35:43):
Bavia?
Speaker 2 (35:44):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (35:44):
Rocket awesome? Okay, I didn't yeah, I heard your voice.
I didn't know what the voice. Okay, all right, there
we go. I will ask you, yeah, man, as you
d v R Dave, are the Panthers going to the playoffs?
Speaker 1 (35:57):
So I have them beating the Saints next weekend. I
have them beating Tampa twice, and I have them losing
the Seattle just because I don't know that they can
go four and oh over the next four weeks. But
with all that, I do us winning the Yeah, I
have us winning the division if they do.
Speaker 3 (36:17):
Those three If they win those three games specifically, they
win the division.
Speaker 1 (36:20):
Yeah, five or six weeks. You guys said, if we
got five hundred the rest of the year, I'm just
going to sit back and cackle like a maniac. And
you know, uh, somebody on Twitter and the other day
was calling somebody out about, you know, about bad mouth
and the Panthers or whatever, and I said, well, listen,
if you're if you're talking about the Panthers because you
want them to succeed. We all want them to succeed.
(36:40):
You know, some of us can't afford to mortgage our
homes and go to every home game or whatever, but
right we all want them to succeed, don't.
Speaker 3 (36:48):
We Absolutely damn right, we Dave, are you like a madman?
That's going to be Dave's book when he writes it.
I feel like a madman.
Speaker 2 (36:54):
Dave, are you in.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
My coast? Dowe, get the button and listen today. That
made keep my laugh on record.
Speaker 2 (37:10):
Now, dude, this is so good. Bone, your bone is
dying today.
Speaker 4 (37:14):
I look at the text wide and I see at
eight fifty one l I made bone laugh and I
heard it from DVR day text.
Speaker 2 (37:22):
Well, now are you texting the show while you're on
the round table? You know you could see that.
Speaker 1 (37:31):
I told you, guys, I typed really fast. That's my
burner account.
Speaker 2 (37:34):
You are a multitasker.
Speaker 4 (37:36):
You are. Will you come in for a Will you
come in for a victory dance at some point wearing
some of your get ups?
Speaker 1 (37:42):
I told you I would. I'm not gonna, you know,
I'm actually starting to put the stuff together now. It's
just a question of when you guys actually do the dance,
like until like six am or whatever. I'll be there.
Speaker 6 (37:53):
You know.
Speaker 1 (37:55):
That can be arranged. I'm getting stuffy out of now.
I just need a boyce young Jersey, and I don't
have the three hundred dollars or whatever. It takes.
Speaker 2 (38:03):
I don't think they cost three Hundred's got one for it.
They don't. Phitty's got one for you.
Speaker 3 (38:07):
I want to see you wear that medieval helmet, that
crazy medieval helmet you have with a jersey and dance.
Speaker 1 (38:15):
That was actually part of the plan. But it was
going to be a skull helmet. It was going to
be a skull mask instead of the helmet. But I
can do both, all right.
Speaker 3 (38:22):
Anyway, Red, do you have read have you ever got
yourself in any medieval you know, battle re enactments?
Speaker 2 (38:28):
That's what Dave's into.
Speaker 1 (38:31):
Nah, Man, not that they don't play like that.
Speaker 2 (38:34):
I don't play like that. You heard the massages for
men either?
Speaker 3 (38:39):
Man?
Speaker 2 (38:39):
What the heck my neck was bothering me?
Speaker 3 (38:42):
Man?
Speaker 4 (38:43):
I stressed that he's trying to get pet Stay to
coach right?
Speaker 2 (38:46):
Right? Who's right? Who's your college team?
Speaker 6 (38:50):
Right?
Speaker 2 (38:50):
Who's your college team needs a girlfriend?
Speaker 5 (38:52):
I like you?
Speaker 2 (38:54):
All right?
Speaker 3 (38:54):
There you go so fiddy? What do you think about
you heard Red and you heard d v R Dave?
What do you think about them both picking the Panthers
to go to the playoffs? Man?
Speaker 2 (39:03):
Love hearing the confidence?
Speaker 1 (39:04):
I love?
Speaker 4 (39:04):
I love.
Speaker 7 (39:05):
I think they could be part of the ten win wagon.
What I don't get Mac is Seattle. This isn't twenty
fourteen Seattle like this. That game I think is very winnable.
So DVR Dave, don't be afraid to go four and
oh because I think when Seattle comes here it's late season,
Sam Darnold, that game could be flexed to a Saturday.
Speaker 2 (39:23):
Could be a short week.
Speaker 7 (39:24):
I think that game was a lot more winnable than
Red and DVR Dave are given the Panthers credit for
we just beat the best team in the NFC.
Speaker 2 (39:32):
Why can't we beat the Seahawks.
Speaker 1 (39:34):
I would love I would love to go four and oh.
I would absolutely love be four and oh in a
few weeks. I just don't know if the Panthers can
sustain it for that long.
Speaker 3 (39:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (39:44):
The consistency, Yeah yeah, I would hope, and I'm hope.
In other words, if they have to lose one, that's
the one I want them to lose because that's the
one that won't affect the standing. You know, if they
have a let down game, let it be that one,
don't let it be the ones that I could push
us again.
Speaker 3 (40:01):
That's the thing is, they don't even need that game
if they win all the division games. But that's not
gonna be easy either. They can just be more consistently.
I just looked at my phone. I have a text
from DVR Dave. He's Oh my god, I mean DVR Dave. Man,
what a multitasker. What if we just did the same
or day.
Speaker 1 (40:20):
We've got to handle my pr somebody's got to handle.
Speaker 2 (40:24):
This summer, this summer.
Speaker 4 (40:26):
Can we just listen to you laugh for ten scratch,
Let's just listen to Dave last go ahead, go ahead.
Speaker 1 (40:31):
Day sent you guys that video. I sent you guys
that video of me laughing my head off. It's on Facebook,
but I hadn't seen it.
Speaker 2 (40:37):
Bone. Why have you not shared that with keeping it
for your own job? Do you remember seeing it?
Speaker 3 (40:41):
I want to see that. I want to see Dave.
Your laugh is infectious. It brings a smile to my face.
Now we have a texture that says every time Red
speaks with his voice, it makes me smile. So Red,
you're between Dave's laugh and your voice. You guys are
making people happy today.
Speaker 1 (40:59):
Rad Yeah, Man, get smalls is all I can say.
Send small on mark bills if it makes you that happen.
You know, you know, buy me a coffee or whatever.
Speaker 3 (41:15):
Yeah, make it happy, Buy me a car, be a car,
so a car for Red, a coffee for Dave? If
you really enjoy these two? All right fellas? Well, you
guys did a great job. I think it was a
very homorrific panther segment. But I thought that's what we enjoy.
Speaker 1 (41:30):
That here, Uh, we're here for that season. Will Willie
P really have a trainer?
Speaker 2 (41:36):
The guy's got no muscles.
Speaker 6 (41:42):
Willie P's taking his money, He's got no muscles.
Speaker 2 (41:46):
You think you should demand a refund?
Speaker 3 (41:49):
Yeah, making scam?
Speaker 2 (41:52):
All right?
Speaker 3 (41:52):
All right, Red, Dave, you guys have a great panther
by weekend? Man, y'all were great? All right, fellas all right,
great job, all right, here we go. That was funny.
I have I have questions back about Red.
Speaker 4 (42:04):
I've got a lot of questions about Dave, and hopefully
he's Dungeon and Dragon's birthday party goes well coming up soon,
But Mack, I have questions. But I don't know if
I should do this off the year of or I
don't know. I've got questions about Red. Is Red is
that his real voice? And asked this because remember Red
got my phone number out of nowhere. I don't know
(42:25):
how Red has my phone number? So is it somebody
that that already knows me? Isn't that's just a voice
they do. Someone thinks it's Flounder doing an accident. It's
not Flounder.
Speaker 2 (42:33):
Is that is Red real? I don't know, I tell you.
Speaker 3 (42:36):
He said he's from Bosnia, so I just thought maybe
that was a Bosnian accent.
Speaker 2 (42:39):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (42:40):
I mean, I hope there gott he is, But I'm
going to wonder, like I've never heard a voice like
that ever.
Speaker 2 (42:45):
An he went after Willie p what a stray?
Speaker 3 (42:48):
Yeah, his voice and the laugh combination of Dave it
does bring a smile to your face. Although the eight
to eight number, uh said get this hyena off the air.
Oh that was fun man and.
Speaker 7 (43:00):
The other Brandon Miller just texted and said, yes, that's Red,
I'm his cowork.
Speaker 3 (43:04):
All right, that's really Red is real? Oh God, that's
He's a doozy. So he's got to be in the mix.
Dave's got to stay in the mid We got a.
Speaker 4 (43:12):
Crew man, Red after a crew bab Red one after
massages and Willie.
Speaker 2 (43:17):
Paton, Why did that amuse me?
Speaker 4 (43:22):
