Speaker 1 (00:03):
Oh, Owen's Mack and Bow on your radio.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
If you listen to my freeing BT posh, come on, posh,
this in my freem t Bone.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
What's up the fun?

Speaker 1 (00:14):
I can't go to work without listening to Mac and Bone.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
Do a lot sport.

Speaker 4 (00:32):
Okay, I'm on Sports Radio ninety two seven wfn Z
Mac and Bone with you. We got two more hours
to go, baby, We've got two more hours of this.
Please tell us you think it's a good thing as well.
But I think it's a good thing. We're gonna talk
Panthers and the playoffs. We will have that conversation a
little bit more Bone coming up later.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
I don't know if you've noticed way Off checked again.

Speaker 4 (00:53):
The Panthers still in first place or at least tied
for first place in the NFC South. Seems like most
of the eyes Bone that missed last time out, you know,
outside of like Robert Hunting and David Moore are gonna
need a little bit more time. But it seems like
most of those guys rose boom. I think I think
it's gonna be good on Horn and Chery list, although
they're still in the protocol, so it seems like we're

(01:16):
about to get some good injury news cade Mace too,
so we'll talk Panthers coming up at eight forty five
by Bone.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
So bye week on paper seemed kind of annoying that
it was that late, but ultimately that they're still in
contention and they're kind of beat up a little bit.
The bye week actually probably came with the perfect time
in sight. It is we're ready for to see. I
wouldn't sign off for this every year, but get us
ready for the season.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
It did.

Speaker 4 (01:39):
Let's all right, so let's do Unfortunately, it seems like
we do get this. I swear we get a late
like the late by a week every year. But anyway,
I digress. Let's talk about Notre Dame versus the ACC,
because Pete Bavaqua was not done bone. Yesterday on Sunday
he went off about the farce that was the selection
committee process and uh, they said no Bowl game. But

(02:00):
yesterday he took to to Dan Patrick Showbone to explain
why he is so upset with the ACC. Listen to this,
and I want to know whose side you're on in
this one.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
Let's listen.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
In what role do the ACC play in any of this?
In your opinion? Well, I would tell you.

Speaker 5 (02:19):
I mean again, I have tremendous respect for Miami. You know,
the great team, great school, their athletic director, Dan Radikovich,
is a good friend, and all the teams in the ACC,
great wonderful universities. We have no gripes about any of
the schools in the ACC, but we were mystified by
the actions of the conference to attack, you know, their

(02:42):
biggest really business partner in football and a member of
their conference in twenty four of our other sports. And
I would tell you, Dan, I wouldn't be honest with
you if I didn't say that they have certainly done
permanent damage to the relationship between the conference in Notre Dame.
What do you mean, just we didn't appreciate the fact

(03:03):
that we were singled out repeatedly and compared to Miami,
not by Miami. Miami has every right to do that,
but it raised a lot of eyebrows here that the
conference was taking shots at us, and you know, that's
just not something we chose to do. We wouldn't choose
to do that in the future, and people might disagree
with us, but that's just not something that we'd be

(03:24):
comfortable with. And again, we have no problem with any
of these teams. These are all great teams. You look
at those teams Miami, like I said, great season, they
beat us. You think about Alabama, and nobody's had more
success in college football over the last decade than Alabama.
But Dan, you know, I mean, you follow the sport
so closely. Everybody was saying that we were one of
a handful of teams that could win this whole thing,

(03:47):
and now we have zero percent chancell even Nick Saban,
you know, nobody knows more about college football maybe in
the history of the world than Nick Saban, you know,
and he said it yesterday, like, how is Notre Dame
not in this? I mean, everybody is just kind of
confus used and perplexed, and we don't have good answers
for the kids on our team, for us twudent athletes.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
You oh, shut up, yo, Wanny old b Oh, what
was the next part there?

Speaker 1 (04:10):
Fit?

Speaker 3 (04:10):
What do we miss out on? Or is that was
that the end of the ACC part?

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (04:14):
Okay, I thought there's another question about the ACC. So Bone,
even Golden Bone has turned on Pepeavaqua Notre Dame a
d here, So you are on the ACC side.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Of the For people that don't know.

Speaker 4 (04:26):
For people that want context, The ACC very was aggressive
in social media comparing Miami to Notre Dame and the
resume and the head to head, and they were on
social media pumping up Miami. They also did on the
ACC network play that replayed the Notre Dame Miami game
how many times last week?

Speaker 3 (04:44):
Thirteen thirteen times? So is that fair or foul?

Speaker 4 (04:47):
Considering Notre Dame as a member in every conference except
football and has a scheduling agreement with them in football, the.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
ACC has taken a lot of heat over the years
in the fact that they don't necessarily have voices that
are out there promoting their product as much as say
the SEC does. So the ACC bows up here and
they defend their full time member in football, Miami, over
Notre Dame, like they should, and now Notre Dame is mad.
You're right, Notre Dame. If you want to blame the ACC,

(05:15):
there's one way to do it. You can blame Miami
because they beat you. That's the problem. Miami beats you
and they're in the ACC. That's how you blame the conference.
But don't sit there and get mad at the ACC
for promoting and touting their conference like people have asked
them to do for a long.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
Time, exactly demandage him do this. They did the right
They did it.

Speaker 4 (05:32):
Jim Phillips has been blasted because he's passive. Well, Greg
Sankey is out there with some of the most shameless,
absurd comments you have ever heard from any human being,
much less a commissioner, like this past weekend. Seven teams
should be in from the SEC. That's what they want.
They want that shameless aggressive lobbying from Jim Phillips, So
I'm sorry you're not a member in football doesn't generate

(05:57):
any money for the ACC to have Notre Dame in playoff,
So I'm sorry. They got to choose sides, and they
chose their school in that sport. I find it to
be so rich that that pepavaqua cane.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
First of all, how whiny.

Speaker 4 (06:12):
I mean, put a diaper on this dude and stick
a binkie in his damn trap and shut him up.
Like seriously, the whining that they have done is embarrassing.
I think it should it's embarrassing for the university should
be above this uh.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
At that school.

Speaker 4 (06:27):
I think it is unreasonable to not expect them to
lobby on behalf of their own team, and it's it's
if you like, if you want the benefits of being
a full member of the ACC in football, they would
lobby for you if you were an ACC football member, right, Really,
if you were an ACC member, you would have probably
went to You probably would have won the ACEC title

(06:48):
this year, went to when went to the the the
playoffs that way too. And again I get all the
reasons you don't, but don't cry because you don't have
his conference to stick up for you when you made
twenty million dollars and didn't have to share it with
anybody last year when you went to the title game.
When you make fifty million dollars a year all for
yourself and your TV deal with NBC, like you have

(07:10):
all these perks to not being in a conference. I'm
sorry if you choose to not be in the ACC
and football, I'm sorry. They're going to lobby for their
actual football members exactly. Oh no, Pete, don't do damage
and take away your basketball program from the AEEC.

Speaker 3 (07:22):
What will we do without it?

Speaker 4 (07:24):
They could take the scheduling agreement away, but again, if
they do it, so be it. But I don't believe,
like if Jim, if the ACC were to lose the
football scheduling agreement because of this, I would still believe
Notre Dame was being petty and the ACC didn't do
anything wrong.

Speaker 3 (07:41):
They did simple head to head.

Speaker 4 (07:43):
It wasn't anything overly inflammatory towards Notre Dame. It was
like Team A and Team B type stuff. Every conference
would do that. Man, I'm sorry, it's business. The ACC
was staring at potentially having no teams, So sorry if
they got a little aggressive, right, they did the right
thing for once.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
They did, and it's just now they're now they're on
Now they're in a drama.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
Fest over it.

Speaker 4 (08:03):
This Notre Dame whining is just absolutely annoying and ridiculous. Now,
if you want to be mad at the ACC for
the for the defacy tiebreaker, you can go ahead, because
bone if they had a tie breaker that ranked the
CFP rankings as higher in the tiebreakers, Miami would have
been the title game and Notre Dame would have been
in the playoff.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
So maybe you can be mad at that. Do you
know Matt who's first up next year for Notre Dame? Though?

Speaker 3 (08:28):
From the ACC, that's right.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
We're we're happy to play the Irish. We're gonna be
playing it now. UNC plays them first from the a
SEC next year. Notre Dame about UNC, don't be mad
at the conference.

Speaker 4 (08:39):
We gave you a bye week against Bill Okay, all right,
we gave you that game. Sorry, fiddy, I gave you
that game very hard for next season. By the way,
this is so rich from it coming from Notre Dame.

Speaker 3 (08:49):
They blobbied against us. Oh my god, they lobbied against
us and hurt our playoff chances.

Speaker 4 (08:54):
Bone after they're the only school with a seat for
themselves in the CFP meetings with a vote for themselves.

Speaker 3 (09:04):
It's all the conference commissioners.

Speaker 4 (09:06):
And Notre Dame's ad Okay, so you have that kind
of say. They also have a sweetheart deal next year Bone,
which Pete Bavaqua proudly bragged about the other day, where
if it's a twelve team playoff next year, they if
they're just ranked in the top twelve, they're guaranteed a
spot in. So if this year's scenario were to play

(09:26):
out next year, Miami would be bounced even though they're
ranked higher.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
How's that fair? Where did that come from? How's that fair?
Where they signed a deal? They signed that?

Speaker 2 (09:34):
Why was that not not until that's crazy that No,
don't even knew this.

Speaker 4 (09:36):
Nobody knew it until Pepelevaka wanted to brag Nanny Nanny booboo.
We got new rules next year. By the way, if
you think you're gonna get any sympathy and you think
you can whine about how bad you have it because
the big bad ACC lobbied against you, you have you
have the sweetheart deals of all sweetheart deals. Take your
damn l I believe you should be in the playoff,
but the way you're acting right now makes me so

(09:57):
glad you're not.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
It's annoying. By the way, this Notre Dame drama is
taken away from who the champs are in. They never
forget bone maybe Notre Dame. Maybe Notre Dame's a few bame.
You're afraid to join the a SEC because you don't
want to stare the champ in the eyes.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
So what is what's the text? What does the text do?

Speaker 2 (10:15):
I do think Notre Dame should be in, and you're right,
I think they should be in over Obama and Oklahoma.
But the way they've handled it doesn't really help. The
narrative that always surrounds Notre Dame about being an elite.

Speaker 4 (10:26):
It doesn't because they are who they are Bone Popeye, Popeye,
the sailorman said, I am what I am. Notre Dame
is what they is, all right, and that is elitist.
Hoiity toyy whiny s obs, And I'm glad Golden Bone
has finally seeing the light.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
Baby, throw your Notre Dame in the damn trash by
worry about what hats I wear. Just don't worry about
what I wear and what I do. Just make your
damn points. By the way, I like how you quoted
one of the greatest of all time that I can
relate to, and that's all Popeye.

Speaker 4 (10:55):
They figured if I quoted a cartoon it would do
well for you guys and for the audience of this show. Well,
I figured that that would work. I worried about spinach
from that man. A. Myron says the ACC was not
aggressive when it promoted Miami.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
It did its job.

Speaker 4 (11:09):
Salty Pirates says, So Notre Dame is upset about being
left out of the playoffs, so they pout in the
side not to play in the bowl game. Why don't
all the teams in the ACC their scheduled play Notre
Dame next year take them off the schedule. The problem
is the ACC wants that that makes money for their schools.
It's huge to have Notre Dame go to their place.
It's huge to have games on TV against Notre Dame. So, like,

(11:33):
as I hate to say this, Notre Dame has the
leverage to play hardball. Notre Dame could hurt us more
than we can hurt them. Right if Notre Dame take
rips up the scheduling agreement, it hurts the ACC more
than it hurts them, I feel.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
Also, is it revenue tied into TV ratings also in
the ACC? Yes, So why would you want that not
to be on there when Notre Dame draws TV ratings?
Like why would you would you not want to be
part of your That's what I'm saying. I just I
do believe Notre Dame has the leverage with that deal.
But I also believe like they're being overly sensitive about this.

(12:08):
Do they really think that's why they didn't make it
in the playoff? Like they don't think this has anything
to do with the reverence for the end be Man
at Alabama, be Man at the SEC and Greg Sank
and the fact that the committee was scared to look
Darth Sanky in the eye and tell them one of
your teams that went to your championship game is not
good enough to be in the playoff, Like why is
the why is this the ACC's fault? Yeah, I don't know,

(12:30):
I just it's a nold question. We come back back
a man that really started up last week. He's back again.
Adam Gold from ninety nine to nine the fan in Raleigh.

We let you hear from Mike Jackson who said, I
don't give a damn that we're in first place right now,
which I love that way.

Speaker 3 (13:41):
We love that attitude about him. He says. There's work
to do.

Speaker 4 (13:45):
Uh for all the parts you missed in a Mac

Speaker 3 (14:25):
How you feeling this week? Man?

Speaker 1 (14:27):
I feel good. I feel great. I feel better than
they do in South Bend.

Speaker 2 (14:32):
They're not They're not feeling too good based off the
optics we're seeing right now.

Speaker 4 (14:35):
What did you think about Pete Bavakua going after the ACC,
What did you think?

Speaker 6 (14:40):
I think I think, first of all, I mean, I
think the relationship between Notre Dame and the and the
league is actually at least as beneficial to the.

Speaker 1 (14:52):
League as it is to Notre Dame. The media is
I think in general the media is pretty dismissed of that.
But whatever, we can all have difference of opinion. I
think Notre Dame is valuable to the league. I don't
know that they were necessarily mistreated, but I understand what
the perception is because it did come down to head

(15:12):
to head, and the ACC and the ACC network and
the related media is going to say, well, why does
it head to head matter? And the head to head
did matter? Right, So I got what Pete Pavaka was
getting at. I think he was honestly upset because he
obviously doesn't listen to my show because I have been

(15:33):
warning him and everybody else the entire year, and every
year we've had these dumb Tuesday Night bracket reveals. Don't
pay any attention to it because none of it matters.
They're not beholding. They tear it up every week and
start over, even though it might not necessarily look like it,

(15:53):
and what happens one week doesn't mean anything for the
next week. Frankly, I think Notre Dame should have been in,
and I think you could. To me, the argument should
have been between Miami and Alabama, not necessarily, although my
I mean all three of them. I think I would
have left Alabama out.

Speaker 2 (16:11):
Wow, agreat I think we agree with you on I
also wonder McK and I both did about Oklahoma also,
like they were scrutinized like the others, But I think
those teams are better than Oklahoma right now.

Speaker 1 (16:24):
Oh, Oklahoma has no offense at all, right, but Alabama's
only got half an offense. So yeah, Like the SEC,
I get it, that's the best league and it's not
even close, right. They have more playoff worthy teams than
any other league, And honestly, I think Texas had a
great argument why they belonged. They played five There were

(16:46):
six SEC teams, seven SEC teams that finished in the
top fourteen of the College Football Playoff ranking. Texas played
five of them. They couldn't play Texas because they're Texas.
They played five of the other six and went three
and two. Texas A and M played one of them
and went zero to one. I could I could argue

(17:09):
at Texas A and M. I might have said Texas, yeah, said,
I would have argued that if they looked at the
schedules as opposed to the records, A and M might
not be in. I know they did beat Notre Dame,
but that's their only win, the only one win that
they have against even a competent team. Right, everything else

(17:32):
is at the bottom of the league. Texas might be in.
I mean Alabama might be and if we're doing it
that way, but Oklahoma also played a great schedule. I
think they played four teams, uh that were SEC teams
that were playoff caliber teams.

Speaker 4 (17:46):
Yeah, it's you know, Goldie, it's the size of these conferences.
So now the schedules are unbalanced, and it's some teams
are going to have harder within their own conference. So
but again, these conferences asked for this. They grew and
grew to make money. You have asked for this, and
this is kind of a byproduct of it. What did
you did you think, Duke, I mean, I know, Manny

(18:07):
Diaz was was stumping to be in the playoff over JMU.
Is there any case there or is that just question
or Is that just Manny throwing a hail Mary?

Speaker 3 (18:16):
What do you think?

Speaker 1 (18:17):
No, there's there's there's two discussions. There's who played a
better schedule, who was probably better? And I think the
answer to that is Duke. But at some point five
losses have the matter, right, Yeah, I can't. We can't uh,
we can't say Texas, you lost three times, therefore you're
not in and think that Duke with five losses is

(18:41):
uh is going to get that spot. So really, what
we've seen here is the exposure of a lot of
things that none of the power leagues ever thought would happen. Right.
Nobody thought that in this age we would have a
conference champion with five losses. Just never occurred to anybody

(19:04):
that that could happen, right, And maybe and maybe the
acc tiebreakers were were out of whack, But I think
what they did was they tried to determine who the
two best deserving, most deserving teams were in the league
to make the playoffs. And when you get down to it,
you know, there are different ways to decide who would

(19:25):
finish first, and nobody would really complain if well, first
of all, if Miami had either beaten ls SMU or Louisville.
Of course, Louisville was a much better team at the
time when Miami played them than after all their injuries.
But if Miami had somehow just had one less loss
or a couple of couple of other things had happened,

(19:47):
and Miami's strength of schedule were a little bit better,
and Miami was in the championship game, nobody'd be complaining.
We wouldn't even be having this discussion. But maybe we
should use the college Football playoff rankings for the tie breaker.
But then again, that's entirely subjective, and then you can
you can absolutely reverse engineer what you want. Uh, And

(20:10):
I'm not a fan of that at all.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
Do you have any problem with me buying the Duke
acc championship teachhirt for thirty four to ninety nine plus?

Speaker 1 (20:17):
Ship?

Speaker 3 (20:17):
We can handle it.

Speaker 1 (20:20):
I'm surprised, that's all it is. No do it?

Speaker 3 (20:22):
Yeah, No, it's on the way. Yeah, it's already done.

Speaker 1 (20:26):
Yeah. Sweatshirt.

Speaker 2 (20:28):
They did have some long sleeves. I kind of like,
you know, I may go back in to get another thing,
you know what.

Speaker 1 (20:33):
Where I hate long sleeve T shirts? Do you hate them?

Speaker 2 (20:38):
I love them because I don't like to show my
arms too much because it's it's not.

Speaker 1 (20:42):
You don't want to show.

Speaker 3 (20:45):
Well, I'm not as ten as I am in the
in the hotter months.

Speaker 1 (20:48):
Right, it's a gun show here it is.

Speaker 4 (20:52):
It's more like water pistols. You know I'm just playing
me too, boone. I'm not just in solid. Look at
my mother. There's not really muscled, areay?

Speaker 3 (20:58):
Sweet? You couldn't figure out where are your triceps and
your bicaps.

Speaker 4 (21:03):
That's when you know you don't have muscles when you
can't even figure out which muscle goes where and what
is what.

Speaker 3 (21:07):
Last week we're talking to Adam gold ninety nine nine
to fan and rally.

Speaker 4 (21:12):
But here in Charlotte, you got to know you can
listen to them weeknights, most nights on WF and Z
at seven o'clock. Goldie the Panthers by virtue of the
Saints beating the Bucks, the Panthers are now tied for first.
It's a four game sprint. The Bucks and Panthers play
home and home. Do you think the Panthers can pull

(21:32):
this off?

Speaker 1 (21:33):
What do you think I'm gonna surprise you? Yeah? And
I think they will gouting what what? Self respecting division
leader would ever lose to the Saints at home.

Speaker 3 (21:49):
That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (21:51):
Oh wait, it possibly women division with a home loss
to the Saints, right So I'm looking I'm looking right
at you, Tampa. I think I'm I think Tampa is
a mess right now, and we'll we'll find out. We'll
find out Sunday because I think Sunday will be an

(22:13):
indicator as to what we can expect the rest of
the way. I'd love to see them do exactly what
they did to the Rams in terms of the run
pass balance and how they go about throwing the ball
down the field.

Speaker 3 (22:25):
They do.

Speaker 2 (22:26):
Wonder how hurt Baker is because he's never going to
let them know how hurt he is.

Speaker 1 (22:29):
Oh he's hurt.

Speaker 2 (22:30):
But I wonder if the downfall is that he's playing
through stuff. End of the year, we're going to find
out he's got like eight injuries going on.

Speaker 1 (22:36):
Right now, no doubt.

Speaker 4 (22:38):
Yeah, I think the I think the spring day c
joints of fact. I know it's not throwing shoulder, but
he you just watch it. That doesn't look you know that,
that that does not look anywhere near his best right now.
So I think that's a part of it. I do
think that's definitely a part of it. Goldie, what do
you think about this Duke basketball team? Do you think
I've heard two I've heard two statements being made aid

(23:00):
about them that are big compliments as they continue to
win tough game after tough game. One is they're the
best team in the country. I've heard some people say.
Another one is, shoot, they might be better than last
year's team. Do you would you agree with either one
of those statements or not yet?

Speaker 1 (23:18):
Konkain Nipple and Cooper flav were on last year's team, right, yes, yes, yes,
Sion James was on last year's Last year's team, in
terms of talent, was significantly better, and I like this team.
Last year's team was significantly better in terms of talent
than this year's team. Tyree's Proctor, I mean, my gosh, look,

(23:39):
it just proves how hard it is to win a title.
It really does. And everybody's got great players, and then
it just comes down to how you execute and how
you play. I think what is great about this team
is Cameron Boozer. While he's not quite as good as
Cooper Flag, he might be better as a college player.

(24:01):
Then Cooper Flag was as a college player, and we
know how great Cooper Flag was as a college player.
The one thing he is, he's not a high level athlete.
He's a great basketball player. He makes a lot of
difficult shots around the rim. Sometimes those aren't gonna go,
but he's a great three point shooter. He's super smart.

(24:25):
But I think this duke team can be slowed down offensively.
They need some of their Isaiah Evans needs to be
a little bit more consistent. I mean, they're gonna be
nice where he's gonna be five out of seven and
then he's gonna be one out of eight. I love
to see a balance there. I don't think they have
great point guard play. But with that said, and I

(24:48):
think it's because the boozer, they just know how to win,
and maybe they'll be a lot like some of those
teams that they have run up against later, you know,
late in NCAAH ornaments. I do think they have a
small quickness problem, but because I thought when they played
Kansas they had a hard time staying in front of Kansas,

(25:11):
and I don't think Kansas is the quickest team in
the country. But I love this dupe team. I realized
they just pointed out all their faults. He got five
incredible wins. We're not even talking about the exhibition win
over Tennis Dad. Where they can, where they roll.

Speaker 2 (25:27):
Them use the word team a lot, and that's how
I identify it. That they may not have as much
talent as some previous teams, but I feel like, I
feel like the role identification is a lot better than
some teams where they're they it's some Yeah, there are
guys that can have big nights, but they're all surrounding
the main star in Boozer, and I think everyone kind
of fits into what their role is.

Speaker 3 (25:47):
And I kind of like that about this group right now.

Speaker 1 (25:49):
I love I love the makeup. I don't think they'll
have uh, you know, melt a meltdown like they did
against Houston, against anybody. I don't think that'll happen to
this Duke team. And I think they've been doing it
the other way. Like I thought, Michigan State was better
than them for most of that game, and at the end,

(26:09):
Duke played better. They kept the game manageable while Michigan
State was out playing them, and then they just put
you know, they got a little bit of rhythm offensively.
Boozer was amazing in the second half, they just put
their foot on the accelerator and went to me. That's
one of the best qualities about this team is that

(26:30):
even when they don't look like they're playing well, they
seem to be playing well.

Speaker 3 (26:34):
Yeah, no doubt. They have a knack for five.

Speaker 4 (26:36):
Even though there's they've got such some young pieces, they
have a knack for finishing these games, man like.

Speaker 3 (26:41):
That's the one thing.

Speaker 4 (26:42):
Last year's team against Kansas and Kentucky early in the season, remember,
they kind of didn't know how to close, right. They
had some weird possessions where Cooper Flagg tried to iso
they had to learn how to close. This team is
less individually talented, but they're they're closing right now and
it's it's impressive. I wait, I can't wait see Carolina
when Tremble comes back. N see State. Maybe they'll wake up.

(27:04):
It's at some point, but Wake had a big win
the other day. It's gonna be a fun basketball season.

Speaker 1 (27:09):
Man.

Speaker 4 (27:09):
It is all right, Goldie, you're the man and this
is amazing. All the Panther fans on the text line
love you today. Nobody's mad at you today.

Speaker 1 (27:17):
Baby. They don't know what.

Speaker 3 (27:20):
There are some crap.

Speaker 4 (27:21):
There the Ark that's a trap. They figure, Yeah, they
think there's a heel turn next week or something. Well,
if they lose, the Saints beat take care of business.

Speaker 3 (27:33):
That's right. It is a big game, though.

Speaker 4 (27:35):
I know the Bucks games are the ones that you
feel like, you know, have the most say. But the
Panthers can show up bone this week and Goldie, they
can show up this week and take care of business
and be like, Okay, maybe they're ready now to not
trip up, to not regress after after prosperity and stuff
like that.

Speaker 1 (27:50):
I can't I can't stress enough how impressive the way
they beat the Rams once. So to me that was
that that's been a lot. By the way, Mike Jackson,
who I didn't think was good enough to be a
number two corner, I was clearly wrong about that. He
is now my favorite Panther.

Speaker 4 (28:07):
About that, about that, anybody buy when you buy Goldie
Christmas gift, get him a Mike jack Jon Go ahead
and tell where your favorite Kane player is now T
shirt my favorite Kane player.

Speaker 3 (28:18):
I'm an a ho man. Are you definitely an a
ho man? Yes? Clearly? I mean that the right call Goldie.

Speaker 1 (28:24):
Ah, you can't go wrong with Jarvis. If you like funny,
Uh yeah, I'd go uh for the total package, I'd
go Jarvis. But I was a Uh, I was an original.

Speaker 3 (28:35):
You see what.

Speaker 2 (28:35):
I'm in the jarvy party myself. You aren't try to
do Goldie. He thought that he would catch Mac not
hockey savvy enough to even name. He was going to
name a player like Wayne greying to the country.

Speaker 4 (28:47):
Wayne Gretsky is still trying to figure out what how
you say Macedonia?

Speaker 2 (28:50):
He named small villages that don't play soccer. Unbelievable. Unbelievable,
our Goldie. Uh uh, you rock, Goldie. We appreciate. We'll
talk to you next week.

Speaker 1 (29:01):
All right?

Speaker 4 (29:01):
Do you go out of the gold Panther fans like
him today? You notice that we get.

Speaker 2 (29:05):
That that Tampa Bay, New Orleans game change Goldie's attitude
towards the Panthers.

Speaker 4 (29:08):
They didn't play this week, that's true. Uh, this on
Thursday last week, and they's got ugly. This texter says,
did y'all notice something? I don't think Goldie remembers we
lost to the Saints at home. I couldn't tell if
he was joking, bone he was joking? Was he yea,
or did he not? That couldn't tell. I think he was.
He was pulling the old leg. I still don't know

(29:29):
to this minute, honestly. Uh. We also have another text
seven oh four number. I find this amazing that bone
Fitty and gold and even Panther hater Goldie are picking
the Panthers to win the division.

Speaker 3 (29:42):
But that gutlass Weenie.

Speaker 4 (29:44):
Mac continues to say, I'm measured, Mac, I can't do
that even damn but the Panthers. So there you go, dude,
I didn't know anybody was upset. I was treading lightly
and wasn't saying they're going to win the division. I'm sorry,
I got people liked this approach. I got stuck on
was Weeni?

Speaker 1 (29:58):
There? Is it?

Speaker 4 (30:00):
Just the approach you would think most Panther fans would
want out of me. Is not coming on the air
and declaring we're a playoff team and I want to
take on all.

Speaker 3 (30:08):
Yeah, what do they want?

Speaker 1 (30:09):
You?

Speaker 3 (30:09):
Dancing before games?

Speaker 1 (30:10):
And may?

Speaker 3 (30:11):
I think this is what you want y'all? I think
this is what you want, all right.

Speaker 4 (30:15):
Derek from Charlotte has his sarcasm meter on it says
it was one hundred percent sarcasm.

Speaker 3 (30:19):
From Goldie was all right, maybe I was short changing Goldie.

Speaker 2 (30:23):
I want to give a shout out, Mack to our
studio sponsor, Chandler Volta CVINJURYWAW dot com for all your
injury law needs. That's CEV INJURYWAW dot com. Many thanks
to Chandler Volta. When we come back, this is where
Mac raises up a little bit. What's the formula for
the Panthers to make the playoffs?

Speaker 3 (30:44):
For playoffs? Me not picking them? Sports Radio.

Speaker 7 (31:11):
Yeah, we we missed some opportunities in the past game
and the Saints did a great job challenging us and
our run game, and the focus of that week was
to try to have that balance attack and they didn't
give us a lot, you know, and they played us
really well. They had a great game plan. So we
looked at that part to see, you know, we're gonna
be looking at that early in the game to see
if they have the same type of plan, uh to
counteract that part of it, you know. And then and

(31:33):
then on the flip side of it, you know, the
Saints made some huge plays in that game. I think
it was two touchdowns on third downs, and you know,
we're in position to make plays. They came up with
the plays we did in that game that was a
difference and played good enough football to have a chance
for it. But this time around, you know, we have
to make sure as we as we played this team,
you know, you watch the style of football that that

(31:53):
they're playing, finding a way to play their football, and
we have We've found an identity and who we want
to be. We know when we're at our best, we're balanced.
We make sure we're running the ball, same thing on
the defensive side, stopping the run. So going into this
matchup a great opportunity, a great challenge for us to
show up with our best.

Speaker 4 (32:11):
There you go, That is Dave Knalis yesterdays presser. The
boys were back at practice.

Speaker 3 (32:18):
Got there. I think they're gonna do the.

Speaker 4 (32:20):
Regular Tuesday off day off today, I think, although I'm
not positive.

Speaker 2 (32:23):
Bone, Yeah, if you do that, yeah, I don't know.
I just started talking. I was wondering the same thing.

Speaker 3 (32:28):
Have I ever done that before? You all right over there? Yeah?
Right over there?

Speaker 4 (32:31):
Yep, Have I ever done that before? Started talking before?
I know what the truth is every day from six
to ten. Yeah, anyway, So I'm kind of curious about
that one.

Speaker 3 (32:41):
But Yeah, you get joked up there.

Speaker 4 (32:43):
I know the injury reports tomorrow, like we'll get all
the injury He kind of pushed off all the injury updates.
But most of those guys were out there, even the guys,
and it's still in the protocol, Cheryl Listen Horn, we're
out there. He's talking their bone about what they have
to do to beat New Orleans. We'll talk about it
this week. Run the damn football last time against the
you couldn't and please j C. Horns stay on two feet.

(33:03):
Those are my first two suggestions to beat the damn Saints.
But as far as the playoff goes bony and we've
talked about all the ins and outs of the schedule,
like hey, like unfortunately, it looks like Tampa is still
going to have the common opponent tiebreaker over US if
we end up tied. So it really looks like Tampa's
going to get the tiebreaker. So I keep thinking we

(33:26):
probably have to sweep them. But when you just talk
in a general sense about the formula to make the playoffs,
like what do they have to do in terms of
on the field, Like what are the most important on
the field aspects of if they do it, consistently over
the next four games they can win this damn division.

Speaker 2 (33:46):
Try to apply some sort of pressure on the opposing
quarterbacks and force them into mistakes. Because of the quarterbacks
that they're playing are rookie and Chuck a banged up
guy in Mayfield, and Darnold is good when he's on.
But if you can force an early turnover on Sam Donald,
he can also unravel where he may throw multiple pickles
in a game. I think applying pressure back on these quarterbacks,

(34:09):
the rookie, the banged up Mayfield and Donald, who can
be up and down, you can force them into mistakes
early in the game. It'll go a long way. I
think pressure on the quarterback is going to be paramount
in these football.

Speaker 4 (34:21):
If pressure, if getting pressure bone is there. No, I agree,
it would be huge. If that is their only chance
into the playoff bone, we might want to start getting
ready for next year. Unfortunately, because this pass rush bone
I mean, DJ want them has zero sacks. I just
I cannot believe that fact. I thought, I said, I
thought it was pretty good. I said, applying some sort

(34:42):
of pressure on the quarterback. No, it'd be big, it
would be big. I can't believe DJ Wantum is stuck
at zero sacks. I thought he was actually pretty good
last year Bone once he got healthy from the injury.
I think, But if they were to do that, it
would flip it would It would take this defense to
another level. Yes, if they were able to can consistently
get pressure. I'm not holding my breath, and maybe it's

(35:04):
just selective pressure, like for example, Bone, it wasn't like
they were all over Matthew Stafford throughout the game, but
timely pressure. Derek Brown gets there. They run a game
up front DT and stunt and Derek Brown gets there,
forces the fumble and want.

Speaker 3 (35:19):
Him picks it up.

Speaker 4 (35:20):
Timely pressure, right ball off the head like stuff like that,
and maybe more balls thrown into Derek Brown's head. I
think forcing turnovers something they can do that would go
a long way.

Speaker 3 (35:30):
Bone.

Speaker 4 (35:30):
They force six turnovers in the last two games. They
can do this. They're getting better and better at forcing turnovers.
It would go a long freaking way. You talked about
Sam Darnolitz's achilles heel Tyler shuck. How about we go
up there and turn this rookie over. That rookie looked
like the second coming of Tom Brady against US the

(35:50):
first time. Like you're saying, get pressure on him, But
like I'm saying, how about we confuse him and turn
it and turn it over. You don't need to get
pressure on him to confuse them. How about is zerover
does some things that this rookie has not seen yet.
He looks pretty darn good. I'll give it to him, Boney,
He looked really good against us. But how about you
forced the young buck to make some damn mistakes? And

(36:11):
I think Baker Mayfield, Baker Mayfield makes mistakes too.

Speaker 3 (36:16):
I think they can turn the ball over. On defense
a couple more things.

Speaker 2 (36:19):
They have to win on third down in these matchups
right now. Offensively, the Panthers are twenty second and third
down conversions. Defensively, they're twenty ninth. They are giving up
forty four percent on third downs. They've got to win
on third down, and they've also got to convert in
the red zone. They're twenty fifth in the league right
now in the red zone at fifty percent. So third

(36:41):
downs and red zone, you could say that for every game,
but with the numbers right now, they are not really
winning on third down a lot. That's got to get
better on both fronts.

Speaker 4 (36:51):
Yeah, money downtime, man, money down time, and it's it's
going you keep the ball, you keep your defense rested,
you keep you know other, you keep Mayfield and Arnold
and these guys off the field. I think it's a
huge factor. I don't think you can deny that at all.
Red zone those are the hidden points. The red zone
defense has been pretty good this year at thirteen if

(37:12):
they can, like they're this is a defense bone that
bends but doesn't break right. This is a defense that
gives up yards. And I don't have any doubt Tampa
will move it on us. I don't have any doubt
Seattle will move it on us. But man, you get
those stops in the red zone. I talk about the
four point plays all the time. You get a stop
and make them kick a field goal. Those things add up.
So I'm always going to talk about red zone defense

(37:33):
and turnovers. Those two things right there. Bone can take
can make the yards number that you give up irrelevant.
If you can force turnovers and if you can stop
them in the red zone. I think we got to
run the football just like point black, period, like no
questions asked, it's non negotiable. Like I think they've got
to start this week against New Orleans, who shut down

(37:54):
our run pretty well last time. And I think you
have to go into the foot of these football games
of we will run it come hell or high water.

Speaker 3 (38:02):
I don't give a crap.

Speaker 4 (38:03):
If we go through the first half in average one
point eight yards to carry, we are staying committed to
the run and we will have venge because to me,
running the football is a mindset right. Running the football
sometimes bone takes time for you to wear them down
up front. Lean on them, lean on them, lean on them.
So I beg Dave Canalis to stay with that run.
Do not get in a game where you panic and

(38:26):
you abandon that because I do believe you can run
on every one of these damn teams, Bony, even Tampa.

Speaker 3 (38:32):
I watch a Saints run.

Speaker 4 (38:33):
I know they're highly you know ranked run defense, but
I watch a Saint run for almost one hundred and
forty on them. It's a mindset you need to go
in these games. We will run the damn football.

Speaker 2 (38:43):
What about Canalis and how he manages two minute situations
and he's got to get better there. We don't need
this to be like clowns getting out of a car
at the circus in the last two minutes of the
first half or whatever. Managing the end of the first
half and the end of the game is paramount here
when these games matter, what they're going to right like
managing stuff a whole lot better and comfortably.

Speaker 3 (39:05):
See.

Speaker 4 (39:06):
I'm not like Willy. You're in the Willie P camp
on this. I'm just giving the ideas.

Speaker 1 (39:10):
I'm not.

Speaker 2 (39:13):
I feel like you asked for a formula the every
time I bring one up here.

Speaker 3 (39:17):
I'm not. I'm not questioning any of your damn ideas.
You are a sensitive, a little sally right now, almost sensitive.

Speaker 2 (39:23):
I'm not sensitive at all. You're having a conversation. You're
the one that's yelling. I can't be any more relaxed.
What are you talking about? I simply gave you one,
and he made the insult. He called me Willie P.
I didn't know. I'm not even upset. I just gave
you something I got called Willie. You never call men
will I just said that.

Speaker 4 (39:44):
What I'm trying to say is what I'm trying to
say is but is that please? Can I hug you
and make it up to you? I could do not
want to go down the path of Willy p and
so I don't want any We can't have any we
can't have another friendship that It's what I'm what I'm
trying to say is that I understand that his two
point drills at the end of half's are a talking point.

(40:08):
I understand what he's been trying to do in some
of these games. Is it a little too conservative? Maybe,
But like take the Rams game for example, he doesn't
want to give the Rams an extra possession.

Speaker 3 (40:21):
At the end of the first half, and he didn't.

Speaker 4 (40:24):
Now, unfortunately Bryce Young missed Excel down the sideline. If
he hits some bone, we probably get a field goal
of that drive. But we were getting the ball first.
In the second half, we drive it down, we score
a touchdown, so we get out of that exchange that
find that what is it called middle eight. We outscored
him by seven, and I think that's what he was
trying to do. I'm defending Dave Canalis bone you don't have.

Speaker 3 (40:48):
I'm not coming at you.

Speaker 4 (40:50):
I'm just I have a I have a little more
appreciation for the conservative end of half because I still
think he's trying to not get the ball back. I
don't think he feels like we're some high powered team
that at all points at the end of a half
step on the gas, no questions asked, right. One thing
that you know, and so I'm not as I'm not

(41:11):
as nitpicky with that as you and Willie are.

Speaker 2 (41:14):
One thing that has to change from the first time
they played the Saints. It was one of those Bryce
games when he threw that terrible interception. They got up
seven to nothing, Rico was running. It looked like they
were on their way to a pretty convincing win that day,
and then Bryce threw the ball right to the Saints.
And it feels like when things are going bad, usually
a bad Bryce turnovers involved somewhere along the way, whether
it's an end zone pick or just a terrible Bryce

(41:39):
has to avoid. Like I've said a lot, it's one
thing if you're forcing the ball downfield and they make
a play on it. But Bryce just can't give the
ball away like he did the first game against the
worlwinds just right to him. Those are the ones that
drive me nuts. The ones that are really not even
that forced. It just Bryce does something where he almost
panics and he throws it to them. Those are the
ones that he's got to get out of the system.

Speaker 4 (42:00):
Be nice. It would be nice. Man, He's got to
take care of the rocket. We'll find out. Are we
ready for this? Like I have a lot of people
are saying the number one key is that Matt does
not say we're going to the playoffs, and so far
I've been able to do that. I want you to
know how badly I want to do a segment where
it's me saying, Panthers are going to the playoffs, and
why not be dangerous in the playoffs? We could beat

(42:21):
anybody because we beat Green Baby. Do you know how
badly I want to do that? Bone, I want that
as bad as I want a you know, a four
pack of sycamore IPA. He's on Friday Night, Like, I
want it so badly. I live, you know me, I
live for coming on the air. We're going to the playoffs?
Who's with me? Trying to rally the troops? But I'm
trying to change my approach.

Speaker 3 (42:42):
Man.

Speaker 4 (42:42):
Well, I'm trying to improve myself, and I still do
think it's a legitimate question. Bone, Are they ready, like
you talk about Bryce, let's not have this turnover that turnover?
Are they ready? Are they ready to be consistent? You know,
I don't know the answer, just that I'll tell you
this right now. I'll pick the Panthers go to the
playoffs next season. You can book that right now. They
will be ready next year. But the question is are

(43:04):
they ready to do it right now? I still have
a little pause. But man, the Bucks looked vulnerable and wounded.

Speaker 2 (43:10):
Though they're way too they're way too heckle and giede
right now to look past one week, right, I mean,
we're trying or Jackelin hide.

Speaker 3 (43:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (43:18):
Also, yeah, whoever you are, you're a hecko or a
jackal guy, there're two. We're trying to do it, but
it's really hard to like, look two weeks down the line. Well,
we don't even know exactly who may show up against
the New Orleans, right. We hope it's the team that
can beat them.

Speaker 4 (43:30):
So that's why I'm holding out in I've held up
because if I understand what you're doing, I'm not on
you for that.

Speaker 3 (43:36):
