about this report from Jeremy Fowler. So basically, Dan Morgan
has not shown much interest Bone in making that big
aggressive trade much just a granted Panthers twitter all off season.
But this one seems a little different. This one according
to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, that was on the ticket
in Dallas. He made calls and was interested in Michael Parsons,

who ended up signing the richest non quarterback deal in
the history of the league, forty seven million dollars per year.
The deal breaker is that Dallas wanted Derek Brown. You know,
it's very similar. The Green Bay deal was two first
round picks and Kenny Clark, who is a guy that's
been a three time Pro bowler, bone it intior defensive line.

He's three years older than Derek Brown is I feel
like Derek Brown's just entering his physical prime, especially once

Would you do Derek Brown and two first round picks
for Michael Parsons. This is tougher than all the other
ones we've done all offseason because of how extraordinary of
a talent Michah Parsons is and that need for the Panthers,
it fits right in there. I lean know, I understand
if you're on the side of doing that, but I
also look at as we just saw them go through

a whole entire season without Derek Brown in the middle,
and while Micah Parson certainly elevates the pass rush, that
would also weave a gaping hole in the middle that
they'd have to try to figure out as well. I
don't think Derek Brown is on the level of Micah Parsons,
but I think for this team, Derek Brown is there
Micah Parsons in terms of value.

So I lean know based off I don't want to
give up Derek Brown, and I also don't think they're
ready yet to give up future stuff just yet, so
I say no. But I do understand if you want

million a year. Michah Parsons signed a forty seven million
dollar a year deal. So it's more than just people
are really fixated on Micah versus Brown.

it's not a contest. To me, the elite edge rusher

the NFL, in the modern game is second only to

quarterback in terms of importance. If you can have an
elite one and he's twenty six years of age and
he has had twelve sacks or more in his first
four seasons, only Reggie White has done that. And oh,
by the way, Reggie White might be the best defensive
end I've ever watched in my life play. And then
you throw in the fact, how about this stat Bone
at Dallas in his career, in his four years, they

are number one in defensive EPA. When he plays, when
he's either on the sideline watching or when he's out
with injury, they are dead last.

like to me, Micah Parsons is all that the rub

first round talent on defensive tackle to replace Derek Brown

We spent the entire offseason talking about the wide receiver
depth and how deep this group was, and then a
lot has changed since we last talked to you. How
worrisome now is the depth of this receiving core with
feeling gone and the Cocher injury.

Well, I mean, when a guy gets hurt, it's going
to miss time. That's obviously a concern. Especially as well
as Jalen had played in camp and as good as
he had looked throughout. I mean, he it was a
different aspect he brings to the game. And I think
if you would have told people, you know, in February,
if Adam retires or whatever, Okay, you're rolling into this
year with two first round picks and Jalen Cocher in

the spot, I think people would've been like, oh, okay,
we can work with that. That's that's something, especially when
that new receiver is a guy like Ceteroa mcmille, who's
you know, got the opportunity to be a big time threat.
You know, he's a big, tall, long receiver, long arms,
catches everything. So I think you would think that's pretty good.
And then to get whatever you get out of Hunter

renfro and has come back seems like a pretty good deal.
I mean that it could be a lot worse. They're
just depending on those first three guys a lot. Now.
I mean, you've got a David Moore in reserve, and
all David Moore's ever done in his career with Dave
Canalis is make plays when they didn't make plays. I mean,
he's not a it's not like he's a seventeen game
starter or anything like that. But when he's called on,

he stepped up. So I think until Jalen gets back,
you're kind of hoping for the best out of the
rookie and hoping he steps up and becomes a big
time player. But I think they still like that depth
even with that move last week.

kind of fascinating that the Panthers are the first ones
in a regular season game to go against Travis Hunter.
And I know he was banged up and missed the
last couple of preseason games, but apparently he's going to

Jacksonville's keeping it a mystery for a reason. Do you

have do you have a feeling like on what we'll
see and how they'll use Travis Hunter, and and and

going to be fascinating that we're first up on the

The thing I wonder about what Travis Hunter is, what
he looks like in week sixteen, sixteen seventeen, after playing
one hundred snaps a week. I mean, because you know,
you can play one hundred snaps in college, and that's
different because you're playing against the higher grade of guys,

you know, covering faster, stronger, bigger receivers, going up against
more physical, better corners. So I just think it'll be
a long term thing. But in the short term, he's
an interesting, uh puzzle feeds for people to use because
he can get at you a lot of different ways.
And I mean, there's so much unknown in Jacksonville, brand
new coach, brand new coordinator, brand new you know, part

how are they gonna line him up? But I think
you know, if I was, you know, if I was
game playing against a Hunter, I would send people deep
against him when he's playing defense, and I would, you know,
get up on him when he's on the line of scrimmage.
And you know, certainly the Panthers have some physical quarters
at JC and Mike Jackson who are more than willing

What's your expectation level, Darren for J T. Sanders in

is a guy who can make plays, and I think

is a guy who can get downfield and make things happen.
I mean, he's he's an athletic guy. And then Tommy
Trimble is coming back. I mean as a secondary, you
know target at that position, Tommy's the guy who makes
some things happen. So I think they look at it
in the totality, but at the end of the day,

I mean this is still Dave Canalis and I want
to be stubborn about run at the ball. And oh,
by the way, there's Tuba Hubbard and Rico Daldell, a
couple of thousand yard backs. That guy's here for a reason,
and you know, I anticipate it's going to be kind
of that broad baysed offense the way it was last
year when we saw Bryce Young playing the way he played.

I just want to see. I mean, we've talked about
this all all season, and we talked about everything all
off season. That's why this week such a relief, because
all these abstract concepts become concrete realities and it's like,
we think that what the Panthers did this offseason by
investing in Bobby Brown, Turshall and Ward to go with
a healthy Derek Brown, is just going to stabilize everything.

I mean, to me, that's gonna be one of the
stories of the season is how much progress they're able
to make defensively based on that. I mean, if they
get the same kind of return out of defensive line
fortifications they did out of offensive line the year before.
I think people ought to be pretty happy and things
ought to get better because listen, I mean, you're not

just adding people, You're not just adding dudes. Much in
the same way you go out and sign an elite
guard and Rob Hunt, you get Derek Brown back on
the field. And I think the simple act of putting
Derek back in the middle of everything makes everything behind
him better. So you can have questions about linebacker, safeties, whatever,
But when that front is stable, when they are better

at stopping the run, I think that's just kind of
trickle down for the rest of the defense.

that one definitely because of Ransom and richards and not
because the nixt s, gut and corner. I feel better

about Corey Thornton's an absolute revelation. We know a damn
thing about this kid, undrafted out of Louisville when camp started,
and now all of a sudden, bone I feel really
good about him. He seems like the next kind of
big physical corner not blazing, but big and physical that
you know, I think is is a baller. Sel Smith
Wade is another guy that I feel better about now

than I did at the start of camp. He's had
a great OTAs but I thought he had real good
camp as well. So I think that's a good answer.
And I think I was thinking the same thing as you.
But now we need to challenge bone. Is there anything
else that we feel better about? Because it wasn't a
preseason like some preseason's Bone, the momentum will grow, right,

things will go well, and we'll start to It doesn't
feel like it was a preseason where.

But yeah, I E Tan impressed me. John from Gastonia
says he feels better about drafting T Mac and he

maybe secondary might be the one answer that maybe we
agree upon. Yeah, T Mac, Yeah, I think I still
think you you saw those young guy moments, those moments
of them working for chemistry. I do think I do
wonder bone about something like separation that I wondered about

pre draft. But I also think the dude's gonna make
a ton of catches with very little separation. He's he's
a type of guy bone. It doesn't need a lot
of separation to be open. Yeah, to be T Mac open,
get in in that radius and let him do some work.
I also have less questions about the you know, because
I wanted Jayalen Walker full admission, but I had I
had a lot of questions about is he adopt and

is he is his head on straight. You know you
had the old thing with I forget which analyst it was.
I think was Big Shay talking about when Jed Fish
left there. It's like, all of a sudden, this dude
didn't care, and like that's a red flag. I don't
really feel like he's gonna be a guy where like

think I do feel better about t Mac that's a
good one, and anything else there. I think we've gone

about this report from Jeremy Fowler. So basically, Dan Morgan
has not shown much interest Bone in making that big
aggressive trade much just a granted Panthers twitter all off season.
But this one seems a little different. This one according
to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, that was on the ticket
in Dallas. He made calls and was interested in Michael Parsons,

who ended up signing the richest non quarterback deal in
the history of the league, forty seven million dollars per year.
The deal breaker is that Dallas wanted Derek Brown. You know,
it's very similar. The Green Bay deal was two first
round picks and Kenny Clark, who is a guy that's
been a three time Pro bowler, bone it intior defensive line.

I wonder if he's kind of on the way down.
He's three years older than Derek Brown is I feel
like Derek Brown's just entering his physical prime, especially once
he gets going after injury. Are you glad, Dan Morgan?
I'm asking all Panther fans, are you glad? Dan Morgan
said no? Or would you do Bone and Panther fitty?

Would you do Derek Brown and two first round picks
for Michael Parsons. This is tougher than all the other
ones we've done all offseason because of how extraordinary of
a talent Michah Parsons is and that need for the Panthers,
it fits right in there. I lean know, I understand
if you're on the side of doing that, but I
also look at as we just saw them go through

a whole entire season without Derek Brown in the middle,
and while Micah Parson certainly elevates the pass rush, that
would also weave a gaping hole in the middle that
they'd have to try to figure out as well. I
don't think Derek Brown is on the level of Micah Parsons,
but I think for this team, Derek Brown is there
Micah Parsons in terms of value.

So I lean know based off I don't want to
give up Derek Brown, and I also don't think they're
ready yet to give up future stuff just yet, so
I say no. But I do understand if you want
Mike Park.

It also is going to cost you twenty three million
dollars a year too, because Derek Brown makes twenty four
million a year. Michah Parsons signed a forty seven million
dollar a year deal. So it's more than just people
are really fixated on Micah versus Brown.

To me and Derek Brown, you know, next time I
see HMO, may may you know pancake me. But to me,
it's not a contest. To me, the elite edge rusher
is the better commodity. Shaggy says, Derek Brown is more valuable.
I said it last hour. To me, edge rusher in
the NFL, in the modern game is second only to

quarterback in terms of importance. If you can have an
elite one and he's twenty six years of age and
he has had twelve sacks or more in his first
four seasons, only Reggie White has done that. And oh,
by the way, Reggie White might be the best defensive
end I've ever watched in my life play. And then
you throw in the fact, how about this stat Bone
at Dallas in his career, in his four years, they

are number one in defensive EPA. When he plays, when
he's either on the sideline watching or when he's out
with injury, they are dead last.

depth and how deep this group was, and then a
lot has changed since we last talked to you. How
worrisome now is the depth of this receiving core with
feeling gone and the Cocher injury.

Well, I mean, when a guy gets hurt, it's going
to miss time. That's obviously a concern. Especially as well
as Jalen had played in camp and as good as
he had looked throughout. I mean, he it was a
different aspect he brings to the game. And I think
if you would have told people, you know, in February,
if Adam retires or whatever, Okay, you're rolling into this
year with two first round picks and Jalen Cocher in

the spot, I think people would've been like, oh, okay,
we can work with that. That's that's something, especially when
that new receiver is a guy like Ceteroa mcmille, who's
you know, got the opportunity to be a big time threat.
You know, he's a big, tall, long receiver, long arms,
catches everything. So I think you would think that's pretty good.
And then to get whatever you get out of Hunter
(21:20):
renfro and has come back seems like a pretty good deal.
I mean that it could be a lot worse. They're
just depending on those first three guys a lot. Now.
I mean, you've got a David Moore in reserve, and
all David Moore's ever done in his career with Dave
Canalis is make plays when they didn't make plays. I mean,
he's not a it's not like he's a seventeen game
starter or anything like that. But when he's called on,

he stepped up. So I think until Jalen gets back,
you're kind of hoping for the best out of the
rookie and hoping he steps up and becomes a big
time player. But I think they still like that depth
even with that move last week.

kind of fascinating that the Panthers are the first ones
in a regular season game to go against Travis Hunter.
And I know he was banged up and missed the
last couple of preseason games, but apparently he's going to

Jacksonville's keeping it a mystery for a reason. Do you

have do you have a feeling like on what we'll
see and how they'll use Travis Hunter, and and and
I mean it's it's going to be I mean, it's
going to be fascinating that we're first up on the
T box against him.

don't know how much of an effect it will have.
The thing I wonder about what Travis Hunter is, what
he looks like in week sixteen, sixteen seventeen, after playing
one hundred snaps a week. I mean, because you know,
you can play one hundred snaps in college, and that's
different because you're playing against the higher grade of guys,

you know, covering faster, stronger, bigger receivers, going up against
more physical, better corners. So I just think it'll be
a long term thing. But in the short term, he's
an interesting, uh puzzle feeds for people to use because
he can get at you a lot of different ways.
And I mean, there's so much unknown in Jacksonville, brand
new coach, brand new coordinator, brand new you know, part
(23:16):
how are they gonna line him up? But I think
you know, if I was, you know, if I was
game playing against a Hunter, I would send people deep
against him when he's playing defense, and I would, you know,
get up on him when he's on the line of scrimmage.
And you know, certainly the Panthers have some physical quarters
at JC and Mike Jackson who are more than willing

to do that.

What's your expectation level, Darren for J T. Sanders in

I think that you know, it's wide open for him.
I mean, he's gotten so many reps in his last

is a guy who can make plays, and I think

is a guy who can get downfield and make things happen.
I mean, he's he's an athletic guy. And then Tommy
Trimble is coming back. I mean as a secondary, you
know target at that position, Tommy's the guy who makes
some things happen. So I think they look at it
in the totality, but at the end of the day,

I mean this is still Dave Canalis and I want
to be stubborn about run at the ball. And oh,
by the way, there's Tuba Hubbard and Rico Daldell, a
couple of thousand yard backs. That guy's here for a reason,
and you know, I anticipate it's going to be kind
of that broad baysed offense the way it was last
year when we saw Bryce Young playing the way he played.

stories of the season is how much progress they're able

people lamenting the preseason, the amount of snaps the offense
took in the preseason, and stuff like that. It hasn't

been very positive bone for the last couple of weeks.
So I'm asking an honest question that I would like
to hear answers from. Is there anyone or anything that
you feel better about as a Carolina Panther a fan?
Then you did it to start a training camp or things?

individual player. I guess I feel good about a certain
unit the secondary. I think I'm alright with J. C.

I think Mayor rag is going to be worth the money,
and I think Ransom is going to be that dude. Yeah,

first level of the secondary. I don't I feel good
about them. I was gonna it's similar to you. So
now we're gonna now we're gonna have to move on
and get different answers. Is there a possible different answer

We found we found one thing that we feel better about,
the cornerback position, and.

You know what, I would throw in safety too.

I mean, like, I think Ransom and Richardson both had
really good camps. I kind of like the two young
bucks there did. I stopped even wanting us to add
a safety at the cutdown day. I was fine with
that four. I wasn't asking that to be a position
where we go out and hunt for. So I think
that one definitely because of Ransom and richards and not
because the nixt s, gut and corner. I feel better
(34:35):
about Corey Thornton's an absolute revelation. We know a damn
thing about this kid, undrafted out of Louisville when camp started,
and now all of a sudden, bone I feel really
good about him. He seems like the next kind of
big physical corner not blazing, but big and physical that
you know, I think is is a baller. Sel Smith
Wade is another guy that I feel better about now
(34:56):
than I did at the start of camp. He's had
a great OTAs but I thought he had real good
camp as well. So I think that's a good answer.
And I think I was thinking the same thing as you.
But now we need to challenge bone. Is there anything
else that we feel better about? Because it wasn't a
preseason like some preseason's Bone, the momentum will grow, right,

things will go well, and we'll start to It doesn't
feel like it was a preseason where.

Our momentum kind of and hype grew.

I feel like we ended up with more questions and answers,
especially with the way the wide receiver in the icky
injury went at the end.

Certainly, kicker is still a question and I'll feel great

I didn't feel good about it anyway. But when you
add Etn's ability to the running back room, I think
that he's an upgrade over Blacks year. Yes, and he's
got the returnability. I think Etn elevates the return game
and you add him to the running back room, I

think that's a that's something I feel better about.

Yeah, I think that a third running back is an
improved spot. I definitely agree with that. I think this
kid can be a factor moving forward. We talked about
if Dowdo leaves after the one year deal, you know,
could he be the second guy Brooks. You know, he's
a wildcard in that because we don't know what the injuries.
But yeah, I E Tan impressed me. John from Gastonia
says he feels better about drafting T Mac and he

feels better about the secondary. So I do I think
maybe secondary might be the one answer that maybe we
agree upon. Yeah, T Mac, Yeah, I think I still
think you you saw those young guy moments, those moments
of them working for chemistry. I do think I do
wonder bone about something like separation that I wondered about
(36:38):
pre draft. But I also think the dude's gonna make
a ton of catches with very little separation. He's he's
a type of guy bone. It doesn't need a lot
of separation to be open. Yeah, to be T Mac open,
get in in that radius and let him do some work.
I also have less questions about the you know, because
I wanted Jayalen Walker full admission, but I had I
had a lot of questions about is he adopt and

is he is his head on straight. You know you
had the old thing with I forget which analyst it was.
I think was Big Shay talking about when Jed Fish
left there. It's like, all of a sudden, this dude
didn't care, and like that's a red flag. I don't
really feel like he's gonna be a guy where like
he's dogging it. He doesn't care, he doesn't fight. I

don't really work, you know what I mean. So I
think I do feel better about t Mac that's a
good one, and anything else there. I think we've gone
through the good stuff. Is there a lot of answers
to this? I don't think there's a lot of comments
about Fiddy's date, but I don't know if there's a
lot of questions.

There's also a lot of comments on what cologne Willie
might be wearing. Someone said he doesn't put on colone.

the QB three situation. That's Brad and Matthews. He did upgraded.
I feel I feel solid and sang I thought the
Hooker situation. I know Hooker had a rough preseason but

I do feel solid and saying going from Plumber to
Hooker's a good move. Have an area of the team
you feel boy edge rushers, Yeah, says he feels better
about the rookie edge rusher. He did have the collapse
along situation there, but he's rock and yeah, what.

I mean, I definitely feel better about where I think
t Mac is. I thought you saw some growth in
some progress and limited action in the preseason, some of
the work he was able to get done in the
joint practices against the Browns and the Texans. I think
the thing that I thought I'd feel much more better
about Mac was that revent rebuilt defensive line, and I

thought Turk Wharton had some moments in preseason that maybe
left scratch left me scratching my head. I do like
what Princely and Nick Gorton put on film, though I
think Scordon's gonna be.

I think the effort that guy is gonna play with
is gonna be contagious and affectious to where it's gonna
be hard to keep him off the field. But when
you only see what five drives in the preseason, you
gotta wait till Sunday to really know where we're at.
But I think they're they're in a better spot than
they were a year ago. And that's still with the
roster that lacks depth on the defensive side of the football.

actually feel better because you boys are hyping the Panthers less.
