Speaker 1 (00:03):
Oh, it's Mac and Foe on your radio.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Baby, This in my freeme Mack posh, come onsh, this
in my freem team.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
Bone, what do the fun I can't go to work
without listening to Mack and Bones.
Speaker 3 (00:18):
Do a lot.
Speaker 4 (00:27):
Yeah, we never got the full list. I know the
Carolina Panthers inquired. They did not make a formal offer,
but they didn't inquire, so they were in talks. And
you know, we heard some whispers from league circles that
Micah had interest in certain teams. Green Bay was won,
but like a little bit of Baltimore, a little bit
of Kansas City, Philadelphia, but we never really Some of
(00:49):
those teams didn't look into it, really, I know Kansas
City didn't. There wasn't a lot of momentum in some
of those other teams. But Carolina did look into it.
And Dallas would have had reason to look into that
because Derek Brown, you know, start defitsive tackle. They were
looking for those type of players, those interior d linemen.
So that makes some sense that Caroline ultimately didn't want
(01:10):
to move Brown and didn't.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
Move on that.
Speaker 5 (01:13):
This is interesting, y'all. This warrants a conversation. Listen, it's
water under the bridge. Now Michael Parsons is in Green
Bay actually has a back injury that could require him
to take a shot to play this weekend against Detroit,
so that bears monitoring. Meanwhile, all the insiders bone come
out with their reports about how how unliked Michael parser
(01:34):
disliked I guess would be the actual appropriate work. How
disliked Parsons was in the locker room and stuff like that.
It's like, yeah, that's damage control, that's sources in Dallas
trying to to slam into the mantle the way out
the door.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
Well, Jerry liked him because he called him Michael Parsons
on the way out the door. I would never disrespect
Michael Parsons on my Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
Let's let's do this, Jerry.
Speaker 5 (01:56):
Let's do this full hour of Panther Football Conversation right now.
Darren Gant joins us at eight twenty five. It is
Week one. We talked all about the Week one matchup
for the first time of many this week at seven o'clock.
If you want to go back later, listen to seven
o'clock portion of the show in podcast form, you can
definitely do that. But right now I want to talk
(02:17):
about this report from Jeremy Fowler. So basically, Dan Morgan
has not shown much interest Bone in making that big
aggressive trade much just a granted Panthers twitter all off season.
But this one seems a little different. This one according
to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, that was on the ticket
in Dallas. He made calls and was interested in Michael Parsons,
(02:41):
who ended up signing the richest non quarterback deal in
the history of the league, forty seven million dollars per year.
The deal breaker is that Dallas wanted Derek Brown. You know,
it's very similar. The Green Bay deal was two first
round picks and Kenny Clark, who is a guy that's
been a three time Pro bowler, bone it intior defensive line.
(03:02):
I wonder if he's kind of on the way down.
He's three years older than Derek Brown is I feel
like Derek Brown's just entering his physical prime, especially once
he gets going after injury. Are you glad, Dan Morgan?
I'm asking all Panther fans, are you glad? Dan Morgan
said no? Or would you do Bone and Panther fitty?
(03:23):
Would you do Derek Brown and two first round picks
for Michael Parsons. This is tougher than all the other
ones we've done all offseason because of how extraordinary of
a talent Michah Parsons is and that need for the Panthers,
it fits right in there. I lean know, I understand
if you're on the side of doing that, but I
also look at as we just saw them go through
(03:44):
a whole entire season without Derek Brown in the middle,
and while Micah Parson certainly elevates the pass rush, that
would also weave a gaping hole in the middle that
they'd have to try to figure out as well. I
don't think Derek Brown is on the level of Micah Parsons,
but I think for this team, Derek Brown is there
Micah Parsons in terms of value.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
So I lean know based off I don't want to
give up Derek Brown, and I also don't think they're
ready yet to give up future stuff just yet, so
I say no. But I do understand if you want
Mike Park.
Speaker 5 (04:16):
It also is going to cost you twenty three million
dollars a year too, because Derek Brown makes twenty four
million a year. Michah Parsons signed a forty seven million
dollar a year deal. So it's more than just people
are really fixated on Micah versus Brown.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
And I'm with you.
Speaker 5 (04:31):
To me and Derek Brown, you know, next time I
see HMO, may may you know pancake me. But to me,
it's not a contest. To me, the elite edge rusher
is the better commodity. Shaggy says, Derek Brown is more valuable.
I said it last hour. To me, edge rusher in
the NFL, in the modern game is second only to
(04:53):
quarterback in terms of importance. If you can have an
elite one and he's twenty six years of age and
he has had twelve sacks or more in his first
four seasons, only Reggie White has done that. And oh,
by the way, Reggie White might be the best defensive
end I've ever watched in my life play. And then
you throw in the fact, how about this stat Bone
at Dallas in his career, in his four years, they
(05:14):
are number one in defensive EPA. When he plays, when
he's either on the sideline watching or when he's out
with injury, they are dead last.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
In the league. Interesting, are you freaking kidding me?
Speaker 5 (05:27):
The best team with him over a four year span,
the worst team when he isn't on the field. So
like to me, Micah Parsons is all that the rub
would be. You're giving up Derek Brown, and you're paying
twenty three extra million dollars a year, and you're thinking
about paying Bryce Nicky here soon too, and two first
(05:47):
round picks, so you can't even get another use another
first round talent on defensive tackle to replace Derek Brown
in the next two years. You're missing out on blue
chip players. So it's really like, it's really like two
blue chip players and Derek Brown and twenty three million
dollars a year.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
For Michaeh Parsons.
Speaker 5 (06:05):
I think I'm glad Dan said no, even though I
just might have made Derek Brown mad at me, But
I think I'm glad he said no.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Give me Derek Brown the money and the picks, and
let's keep getting stuff better around Derek Brown rather than
have to pay Michaeh Parsons and then figure out because
either way, you're gonna have to figure stuff out around
Michael Parsons with less money, because Michael Parsons himself he's
gonna need some help too in the interior and on
the defense. So I'd rather have Brown the extra money
(06:33):
and the picks than just straight up Michael Parsons.
Speaker 5 (06:36):
That's yeah, that's where it's just it's a bit too
dang much.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Because so you're right, if it's player for player, MICHAEH.
Parsons is better than Derek Brown. When you're throwing the
other stuff, that completely I think changes the view of
the whole deal.
Speaker 5 (06:50):
It makes it harder to do your rebuild. Right, we're
still in the middle of this rebuild process, so you
still need those first round picks. But if we were
a championship content or I may pull it, im I
might pull the trigger because the championship contender bone would
be stronger everywhere else. Right, you wouldn't necessarily need the
first round picks as bad. Maybe you wouldn't need Derek
(07:10):
Brown as bad. I could see Michah Parsons like Green
Bay go for it, you know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (07:17):
I understand that where.
Speaker 5 (07:19):
We're at, I still think you need those first round picks.
Fit dog, Where do you stand? I'm gonna read off
a bunch of text on this.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
Let us have a great idea after he talked to
Fitty of what they should have done. But talk to
Fitty first seven four five, seven, nine to six cent.
I want to read a bunch of texts on this.
When you hear Jeremy Fowler report that Dan Morgan called
Dallas about Michaeh. Parsons but bailed out when they wanted
Derek Brown as part of the package in return, and
I can only imagine bone Derek Brown would be the
(07:46):
Kenny Clark right in the package. It would be two
first and Derek Brown fit dog. Are you glad they
didn't do this?
Speaker 5 (07:53):
Or do you want Michael Parsons to make the move
from Dallas to Carolina?
Speaker 6 (07:57):
Like you, we would have made a great one to
tandem here in Charlotte on the Surfacemack, I agree with you,
like I think Micah Parsons is much more valuable to
a defense than what Derek Brown is because of how
he lead he is at getting to the quarterback. He's
He's one of the best pure pass rushers I've seen
uh in my time watching football. But I don't think
(08:19):
that if the Patents would have traded for him, that
would have made this team closer to competing for a
division title.
Speaker 7 (08:25):
I don't think.
Speaker 6 (08:26):
I don't think they would have taken that step because
they still got areas they got to fill on that
on the on the defensive side of the football. And
if you could have maybe got Parsons here, and maybe
they wanted a J. C. Horn into first round picks,
maybe I'd be warren rested in that, like I'd be
warren rested if it was Parsons and Derek Brown not
(08:47):
trading one for one just because of good Brown is
in the running game.
Speaker 5 (08:51):
Interesting, so you'd be more apt. My god, what a
what a tandem that would be in the front.
Speaker 6 (08:55):
I want to give up another extra first round pick
and J. C. Horn if that's what it took to
get Parsons here. So hold on, dere Brown, Are you
saying three first round picks and Horn?
Speaker 7 (09:05):
I would have been open to that.
Speaker 6 (09:06):
Oh my god, that's the best defensive line in football.
Speaker 5 (09:09):
Two first round picks and Horn is interesting? But they
don't need a corner? Do they just sign Bland?
Speaker 7 (09:14):
Yeah? Diggs is done though.
Speaker 5 (09:17):
You seem to know a lot about a team you
don't root for. Oh no, I'm just kidding.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
Here we go.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
Here's were you gonna say. But here's what they could
have done with all Jared O. Thing's interesting. That's interesting.
Dam Morgan could have called and said, we're gonna We're
gonna do it. We're gonna send Brown for Parsons. You
got a deal that, mister Dan Morgan. We're gonna take
Brown on the Dallas Cowboys. Then you send them Bobby Brown.
You do a little bait. And so Jerry has no idea.
(09:42):
He wouldn't know his own players names.
Speaker 5 (09:44):
What if?
Speaker 3 (09:45):
What if?
Speaker 2 (09:46):
Jerry as for Bobby Brown, we want you, we want
your stud There I missed Bobby Brown.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
All right, that's what I got it. Now, that's the
hell of a damn idea.
Speaker 5 (09:54):
That is the hell saying Jerry Morgan. Oh man, all right,
let's read some of these text here. Somebody says Brown
actually wants to be here. Yeah, I mean that's the thing.
I do feel guilty for the way I talked about
Parsons and Brown, but I gotta be honest.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
I have to be honest. Da.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
We're gonna getting a lot of credit on the text line.
First first stand in pat something that Scott Fitterer didn't
always necessarily do when it came to some trades.
Speaker 5 (10:18):
Retired JV Kicker says, good call by Dan. Very proud
of our GM. Yeah, mister in on every deal. Would
he have been in on this, mister laser eyes in
on every deal?
Speaker 3 (10:28):
I don't know. Benny from the.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
City just cross lines that we don't cross on this
radio program. Here, what do you say? Derek Brown and
JJ Jansen straight up for Michael paw dare you sir?
There's there are untouchables. There are untouchables over there, and
the and and the America's long snapper is one of them.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
Damn it. Let's see uh, let's see here.
Speaker 5 (10:48):
Seven O four five, seven nine, six ten if you
all want to jump in, uh, Brian says, can't even
believe you guys are entertaining this. This should have been
shot down immediately on this show our great GM did. Yeah, sure, right,
So people love Day Morgan Day. Now they're mad at me.
Bone didn't really flirt the way I did. I let
you know how much I want Michael Parsons, but I
(11:12):
just don't think the whole deal makes sense right now
where we're at.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
I don't think it did it does. I will say
this though, you.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
Can flort by the way on the top, I'm worn.
I got a new cologone that just came in called
raw Chemistry. I'm ready to flirt you a funny little
man some times. But as it was, it was it was.
It was a free I didn't know what it was called.
It was a free sample from a colone that I have.
(11:41):
I have reordered it. They sent a free sample of
a different one, and this one is just called rock.
I wasn't seeking out rock chemistry.
Speaker 5 (11:48):
I have a question to everybody out there, Dude, dudes
wear cologne. I have not wear worn cologne in almost
twenty years. Yeah, I have my I still wear coloone.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
Is it?
Speaker 3 (12:01):
Is it just me?
Speaker 2 (12:02):
I have my Midnight Cowboy? But this one was the
cheesiest names to this one was wrong. I didn't know
rock chemistry was a thing until I arrived in the mail.
I will wear I will wear my raw chemistry tomorrow.
Speaker 5 (12:13):
The names too, The names are too cool and badass
sounding for bone fitting, like bone should wear on the
couch watching Gilmore girls like that should be the name
of the colone that he is wearing.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
But no he's not.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
So Sometimes I go, I go scroll the dating app,
but the little is a single guy.
Speaker 5 (12:30):
Single guys wear colones? Do other married guys wear colone? Out?
Speaker 2 (12:34):
I know that when I'm scrolling the dating app. I
put a little Colone on my negative if it works
or not. Then I realized they can't smell you through
the You don't.
Speaker 6 (12:39):
Put on Colonne Mac like the one or two nights
a year you and missus Mac like a date night.
Speaker 5 (12:44):
Maybe you should truly not Warren Coal. You guys wish
I did in here. I have truly not Warren Colonne.
In like two decades, Little Mac has taken my cologne.
Little Mac has some like twenty year old your car
that he has common Dear, I I.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
Got some bottles of that's going in there. He wants
to put it on.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
Oh, you haven't lived until you're scorting yourself at CBS
with some of your car in the neck.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
Nas. I used to use magazine samples in my teen years.
Speaker 7 (13:07):
All right, Joey Trebiani.
Speaker 5 (13:10):
Nascar Brad says, I naturally smell great. I don't need Coloone's.
Speaker 2 (13:17):
Nascar Brad, I don't know, fitty, do you think a
guy named Nascar Brad smells what smells right?
Speaker 6 (13:22):
I've been in the Nascar Brad's house many a time.
He smells delightful.
Speaker 5 (13:26):
Kate k tol Mafia. My wife buys the Colone I
wear my wife buys the clothes I wear she is given.
I guess she's given up on me smelling good because
she has not shown any interest in me putting cologne on.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
JB.
Speaker 5 (13:37):
The appraiser said, Oh, it's definitely you mac Real. Men
wear cologne at least sometimes. All right, dude, you got
this caze. There's a reason this gave up on it.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
Man.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
Someone said, there's a reason bone is called spicy Papa.
It's colons like that. I tell you my my antig bone.
Seriously talking about things like putting on colone?
Speaker 3 (13:55):
What is wrong with what?
Speaker 5 (13:57):
It's you just trying to be like how you do win.
It's just kind of funny. I've always got a collared
shirt on in raw chemistry like it just.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
I've always had col oones. What are you talking about?
I know you want to smell my neck, Like what
is going on over here? I have that neck bone?
Let me get that neck.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
I didn't know.
Speaker 2 (14:14):
Collared shirt, by the way, is not new. It's new recently,
but it's not like having warn shirts like this. Playboy
bone is just funny, you know what I mean. I'm
not wearing T You should be in a T shirt
wearing no colonne. Why Fitty smelled me like like Mabel, does.
Speaker 7 (14:29):
You smell your neck? I'll get anff.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
You want to get that neck?
Speaker 5 (14:32):
Anyway? Mac wears cologne to the pool. That's from sirloin
of beef. Mac is a disgusting human. What kind of
man doesn't ever put on cologne on date night? This
bro don't wear cologne. I would divorce his ass if
I was missus mak.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
Some one says, Nascar Brad's sprays this whole house with
colowne because that's the toilet that.
Speaker 3 (14:54):
Fitty destroyed back in the spring.
Speaker 5 (14:57):
Yeah, Nascar, Brad, you might still smell like fitting you.
You might want to put some colone on process. People
are calling me collar bone now collared and cologne bone
is a vibe, Ladies, it's a damn vibe because your
son caused this whole thing when he questioned my RIZ
levels a couple of weeks ago, trying to turn it up.
So I'm trying to prove right now, nobody at this
(15:17):
station has more a RIZ than the riz bone.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
That's false. Who has more me? You're wearing ladies undergarments today.
Speaker 6 (15:31):
Of the three of us on the air right now,
which one of y'all has a date tonight?
Speaker 3 (15:37):
Founder doesn't count. You have a There's no way you
have a date tonight?
Speaker 7 (15:44):
Yes I do.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
Oh my god, this is huge. This is bigger than bone.
Speaker 5 (15:48):
When the collar and clone stop throwing stall, crap that happened?
Speaker 3 (15:52):
What's her name?
Speaker 7 (15:54):
How much she?
Speaker 3 (15:54):
How much she costs?
Speaker 2 (15:55):
What's it?
Speaker 3 (15:55):
Where are you going? Is Anita beack?
Speaker 7 (15:59):
Nope?
Speaker 3 (16:01):
Oh my god, fiddy? How you just drop that on
a swimmer for again?
Speaker 7 (16:04):
For this game week Belichick lost by thirty four. There's
bigger things to talk about.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
Wait a minute, Wait a minute, you're the king of
its football season.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
No more dating. You're ready to You're already lost focus.
Speaker 7 (16:19):
God, do what you gotta do.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
Boy, you might need to borrow one of these shirts
I got on by Way and the rock chemistry.
Speaker 3 (16:24):
You need the rock emmistry.
Speaker 5 (16:25):
If we get fitty on a date and a Panther's
winning a regular season game in one.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
Week, I'm never taking a song off. I'm gonna be
so good. Are you gonna wear that on the date?
Speaker 7 (16:33):
No, I won't change it the proper time.
Speaker 5 (16:35):
This man got a date, pone, I'm afraid a meteor
might hit today. We'll give him something that raw chemistry
colone and give him your college shirt immediately. All right,
oh did you yep? Oh did he say that?
Speaker 3 (16:46):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (16:46):
Well fifteen seconds. Ag all right, it's eight eight eight
eight in a non listening challenge. But anyway, we gotta
stop talking when we come back.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
Dereggampanthers dot Com talks about Week one and more. Sports
Radio nine WFNZ.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
High upon them, thou pres coming places can.
Speaker 8 (17:12):
Funny faces, cannot deny, cannot deny that app is hot, hot,
(17:38):
hot baby.
Speaker 5 (17:39):
What a performance in down Logan's debut at the Bank
on Friday night.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
I will forever again.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
I was singing background on that sounds like a Partridge
family did that song. I will forever love that cheesy
app State anthem, and it feels very poignant today after
what they did in Week one, and with one of
app State's finest grads, Darren Gannatpanthers dot Com joining us
on the show. DJ congrats on your red hot app
(18:07):
State squad.
Speaker 3 (18:08):
Baby.
Speaker 1 (18:09):
I appreciate that. And when I hear that song, I'm
like Tom cruising risky business. I'm dancing around in my
underwear and sunglasses. You know, security I think is being
called because I think they frown on that here at
the stadium. But yeah, I just can't help it. That
song moves me.
Speaker 3 (18:25):
Oh that is hilarious.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
Man, What do you surprise that song didn't chart on
the Billboard one hundred.
Speaker 5 (18:30):
To be honest, what did you think of your squad?
Speaker 3 (18:34):
Man?
Speaker 7 (18:34):
I didn't know.
Speaker 3 (18:35):
I feel so dumb.
Speaker 5 (18:37):
We I think and and the Better should feel dumb too,
because people bet that down from nine to a half
to turn You can just.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
Get it that sentence stop right there at the I
feel so dumb. I'm trying to that.
Speaker 5 (18:49):
I was trying to bring other people in with me.
What you had to You had to love that performance.
What a debut for dal Loggins.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
Man? Sure, I mean somebody asked me last week you
know what I thought was gonna happen, and I said,
we're gonna stop you in CC. Who's our quarterback? I
have no idea. I mean, that's just it's Apple Actian
State football. That's what we do, okay, all right, all right?
I like and he's playing it cool. We're finally to
Panther game week here. What's your feeling on on Ikey DG.
(19:18):
I know we're gonna get no you might go Canalis
and refer me to the injury report that comes out
later today. But like, do you have a gut feeling
on whether or not he's going to be able to go?
And do we know for sure that Nyman is next
up at left tackle and not Christiansen the gut feeling.
I see what you did there.
Speaker 3 (19:36):
I didn't even try.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
Yeah, and your gut was correct. I am going to
refer to you to that injury report that'll be on
Panthers dot com later this afternoon. You said stay tuned
for all the latest on that. I mean, we'll see.
Ikey said the other day he was feeling better. And
guys have returned in eight days from similar surgeries. Other
guys have returned in three weeks from similar surgery, So
(20:00):
you know, I think, as John Fox would say, all
appendixes are different. So we'll we'll just see whether he's
out there on the practice field, you know that kind
of stuff. It's to be determined practice a little bit
later this afternoon, so we'll have a better idea this afternoon,
And once you check out that injury report on Panthers
dot com, you'll know much more.
Speaker 2 (20:21):
We spent the entire offseason talking about the wide receiver
depth and how deep this group was, and then a
lot has changed since we last talked to you. How
worrisome now is the depth of this receiving core with
feeling gone and the Cocher injury.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
Well, I mean, when a guy gets hurt, it's going
to miss time. That's obviously a concern. Especially as well
as Jalen had played in camp and as good as
he had looked throughout. I mean, he it was a
different aspect he brings to the game. And I think
if you would have told people, you know, in February,
if Adam retires or whatever, Okay, you're rolling into this
year with two first round picks and Jalen Cocher in
(20:58):
the spot, I think people would've been like, oh, okay,
we can work with that. That's that's something, especially when
that new receiver is a guy like Ceteroa mcmille, who's
you know, got the opportunity to be a big time threat.
You know, he's a big, tall, long receiver, long arms,
catches everything. So I think you would think that's pretty good.
And then to get whatever you get out of Hunter
(21:20):
renfro and has come back seems like a pretty good deal.
I mean that it could be a lot worse. They're
just depending on those first three guys a lot. Now.
I mean, you've got a David Moore in reserve, and
all David Moore's ever done in his career with Dave
Canalis is make plays when they didn't make plays. I mean,
he's not a it's not like he's a seventeen game
starter or anything like that. But when he's called on,
(21:43):
he stepped up. So I think until Jalen gets back,
you're kind of hoping for the best out of the
rookie and hoping he steps up and becomes a big
time player. But I think they still like that depth
even with that move last week.
Speaker 5 (21:58):
We were talking earlier, and I'm sure we'll talk about
more over the next couple of days. But it is
kind of fascinating that the Panthers are the first ones
in a regular season game to go against Travis Hunter.
And I know he was banged up and missed the
last couple of preseason games, but apparently he's going to
play both sides of the ball. It's but it's a mystery.
Jacksonville's keeping it a mystery for a reason. Do you
(22:19):
have do you have a feeling like on what we'll
see and how they'll use Travis Hunter, and and and
I mean it's it's going to be I mean, it's
going to be fascinating that we're first up on the
T box against him.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
Sure, and you know, again in the first game, I
don't know how much of an effect it will have.
The thing I wonder about what Travis Hunter is, what
he looks like in week sixteen, sixteen seventeen, after playing
one hundred snaps a week. I mean, because you know,
you can play one hundred snaps in college, and that's
different because you're playing against the higher grade of guys,
(22:54):
you know, covering faster, stronger, bigger receivers, going up against
more physical, better corners. So I just think it'll be
a long term thing. But in the short term, he's
an interesting, uh puzzle feeds for people to use because
he can get at you a lot of different ways.
And I mean, there's so much unknown in Jacksonville, brand
new coach, brand new coordinator, brand new you know, part
(23:16):
how are they gonna line him up? But I think
you know, if I was, you know, if I was
game playing against a Hunter, I would send people deep
against him when he's playing defense, and I would, you know,
get up on him when he's on the line of scrimmage.
And you know, certainly the Panthers have some physical quarters
at JC and Mike Jackson who are more than willing
(23:37):
to do that.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
What's your expectation level, Darren for J T. Sanders in
his second year.
Speaker 1 (23:42):
I think that you know, it's wide open for him.
I mean, he's gotten so many reps in his last
two training camps, his two training camps when other guys
have been out injured and he's got the opportunity to
make that thing is gone. I think, you know, he
is a guy who can make plays, and I think
that does take some of that pressure off what you
(24:03):
were talking about earlier with the wide receivers because he
is a guy who can get downfield and make things happen.
I mean, he's he's an athletic guy. And then Tommy
Trimble is coming back. I mean as a secondary, you
know target at that position, Tommy's the guy who makes
some things happen. So I think they look at it
in the totality, but at the end of the day,
(24:23):
I mean this is still Dave Canalis and I want
to be stubborn about run at the ball. And oh,
by the way, there's Tuba Hubbard and Rico Daldell, a
couple of thousand yard backs. That guy's here for a reason,
and you know, I anticipate it's going to be kind
of that broad baysed offense the way it was last
year when we saw Bryce Young playing the way he played.
Speaker 5 (24:42):
We're talking with Darren Panthers dot Com, who apparently has
put pants I've been told by source at the stadium
Bone he has put pants back on. He is no
longer dancing and the pants are back on over there.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
You know, could I tell Darren Mack what you said
during the break about him?
Speaker 3 (24:59):
What's that?
Speaker 2 (25:00):
We were talking about Cologne's last segment and he asked,
what coloone you wear? And if it's Bojangler colone.
Speaker 1 (25:07):
That's right, that's right, all Bojangle, just you know, a
little Bojangle's little dab a Duke's mayo right under the chin.
Maybe some sleep that gets me, that gets me right.
Speaker 3 (25:17):
I feared to be into that.
Speaker 5 (25:18):
I feared he would be maybe a little high life
behind the ear, you know, all right, DG, Well that
was I got to say, okay, defense on the defensive
side of the ball, they see someone that they went
up against last year. Liam Cohen did an amazing job
in Tampa as the coordinator, and Tampa's offense stuck it
to us a little bit. The Panthers, though, have restocked
(25:39):
up on defense, and I'm not quite sure Cohen has
the same amount of talent you know, in Jacksonville on
offense as he did in Tampa. What do you think
about the matchup week one for this for this defense.
What's you're feeling.
Speaker 1 (25:52):
I just want to see. I mean, we've talked about
this all all season, and we talked about everything all
off season. That's why this week such a relief, because
all these abstract concepts become concrete realities and it's like,
we think that what the Panthers did this offseason by
investing in Bobby Brown, Turshall and Ward to go with
a healthy Derek Brown, is just going to stabilize everything.
(26:14):
I mean, to me, that's gonna be one of the
stories of the season is how much progress they're able
to make defensively based on that. I mean, if they
get the same kind of return out of defensive line
fortifications they did out of offensive line the year before.
I think people ought to be pretty happy and things
ought to get better because listen, I mean, you're not
(26:34):
just adding people, You're not just adding dudes. Much in
the same way you go out and sign an elite
guard and Rob Hunt, you get Derek Brown back on
the field. And I think the simple act of putting
Derek back in the middle of everything makes everything behind
him better. So you can have questions about linebacker, safeties, whatever,
But when that front is stable, when they are better
(26:56):
at stopping the run, I think that's just kind of
trickle down for the rest of the defense.
Speaker 5 (27:02):
All Right, he is Derek Gant. A Texter points out
dg is brilliant. He deflected max question like any coach
would do, and then promoted his content in the same paragraph.
So there you go. You pulled it off, Baby, you
pulled it off.
Speaker 1 (27:18):
It's almost like I've been doing this for a minute.
Speaker 3 (27:21):
I know you can.
Speaker 1 (27:22):
Is not my first rodeo.
Speaker 3 (27:24):
Thank you, coach Fox.
Speaker 5 (27:26):
I cannot trick the wily Vet into giving up the goods.
Speaker 3 (27:29):
We will see.
Speaker 5 (27:29):
We will see what happens today with the injury report
and Ikey and who's playing left tackle, And you can
read all about on Panthers dot Com.
Speaker 3 (27:36):
Thank you, DG. Appreciate you brother.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
You got it boys. We'll see y'all.
Speaker 3 (27:40):
All right, be good. There you go.
Speaker 5 (27:41):
That is Darren Gant Panthers dot Com. We haven't really gone,
you know, gotten fully in.
Speaker 3 (27:47):
There's there.
Speaker 5 (27:47):
We got to do a segment at least, you know,
at least one boat on the whole Travis Hunter thing,
and like, how do you feel about that? What do
you think about both sides of the ball matchups against
him and stuff like that.
Speaker 2 (27:57):
Buppet go Bryce versus Trevor. Excuse me, there's also a
Bryce versus Trevor Warrence as well.
Speaker 5 (28:01):
I was thinking about that too, because I just ran
down earlier in the show about twelve statistical categories. Bryce
was better than Trevor att last year, even with the
stinky first two games and the benching. But as far
as Hunter goes, DG is on to something. Travis Kelsey
was the first one I heard say this that if
you are going up against Travis Hunter and he is
playing I'm guessing at least eighty percent of the staffs
(28:23):
both ways, right, Kelsey said, go deep all the time
on him, make him run, wear him down. Then you
throw in the Jacksonville Heat. And I also wonder where's
his conditioning because he wasn't practicing, he wasn't playing there
for a while bone with an injury during camp. I
also like the idea too, like Darren said, of jamming
him up, you know, jamming him at the line on
(28:44):
the other side of the ball. I really think there's
a chance Bony he is gassed in the fourth quarter
on Sunday, you know, I think that could be a
big difference.
Speaker 3 (28:53):
If you get him gassed.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
And the Pactors get him in week one where they're
still trying to figure out the subst that twos when
to use them when they're gonna have to figure that
figure that out over time, and the Panthers have them
week one when they may not know yet how it's
fully going to operate. They may not know how it's
gonna work. If we got them earlier in mid season
or so, they may have a better feel. They may
(29:15):
not even have any idea conditioning wise, usage wise, They're
got to figure that out. Panthers schedule wise, get them
week one. That's a great thing.
Speaker 5 (29:23):
Yeah, yeah, it's all kind of it's on charter territory, right,
I mean, he played one preseason game and played like
ten snaps offense eight snaps defense. So this is and
it is different. Then somebody texted in and said he
did this in college. Why don't y'all stop making a
big deal out of it. I'm with Darren, He's a
grown ass man. This is a different level, man. This
is a different damn level of physicality in this league
(29:46):
weekend and weekend.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
And in that Jacksonville heat early on. We'll see how
that plays a fact.
Speaker 5 (29:51):
I'm saying, do you I would be shocked if he
is not gassed in the fourth quarter of this game.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
Has to be you know, when we come back. There's
a lot of ugly in the actors preseason. Is there
anything that you actually feel better about then, feel better
about than you did at the start of camp? Sports
Radio seven WFNZ MAC and BOM.
Speaker 5 (30:25):
Sports Radio wfn Z final hour of the show, we'll
have to feature the details bone on Pablo Torre finding
something else out. He has at least moved on Bone
and done some more. Yeoman's investigative reporting post obsession with
the Jordan Hudson Bill Belichick situation. The Clippers might be
(30:50):
caught here with a serious salary cap espionage violation operation.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
Yeah, Pablo Tory comes knocking on your door, don't answer it.
Speaker 5 (30:58):
It's like wickersham Vanna, you know what I mean? These
are these are the names, and Colin was talking about
this durd to break.
Speaker 3 (31:05):
You have so few people nowadays.
Speaker 5 (31:06):
It feels like in sports that are doing investigative journalism
that it stands out.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
But yeah, those are three knows something about everyone. Those
are three names right there. You do not want investigating you.
Speaker 5 (31:17):
But yes, he's moved on Bone from the Massachusetts bed
and breakfast that Belichick walked out.
Speaker 3 (31:21):
Of shirtless too.
Speaker 5 (31:24):
Maybe busting the Clippers for a major cheating scandal. It
involves circumventing the cap. You have to hear about this,
So we'll do that in the last hour of the
show at some point. Obviously we're talking football full till
the fit Dog has a.
Speaker 3 (31:37):
Date tonight as well.
Speaker 5 (31:38):
He sprung that on us and almost fell off his
chair again, Bony, that was that was a revelation. So
anyway we've got that. I'll try to dig for more details.
He wants to be secret about this one though.
Speaker 3 (31:50):
Bone. This is Chris.
Speaker 2 (31:51):
Chris McClean finds out where's Pablo, Pablo, can you figure
out the details on his lady for me? If you're
at your your day to night city and you look
over at the next booth and it's Pablo Toy, just
go ahead and as the.
Speaker 3 (32:04):
Bill, I'm jumping through the window. Oh my god. All right.
Speaker 5 (32:09):
So anyway, that's coming up, and the p man p
man coming up top of the hour on vacation peek. Oh,
he's joining us on vacation very much. How's he feel
about red hotch Charlotte f C another co owned man
by the way, will he be how does he? Oh?
He definitely is Colah. I wouldn't even I wouldn't even
question that.
Speaker 3 (32:25):
Oh man. All right.
Speaker 5 (32:29):
So anyway, let's get into this Panther conversation. And I've
noticed on the text line Bone, you know a lot
of times you'll ask the question that we're going to
ask in the next segment, going to break And by
the time we get back from Breakbone, there's a bunch
of answers to the question.
Speaker 3 (32:43):
Not everybody at once. On this one.
Speaker 5 (32:46):
I asked, we're asking the question, is there because we
have been doing so much lamenting as Panther fans, many
of us lamenting the Adam Thelen trade, many of us
lamenting the Cocher injury, the Icky injury, a lot of
people lamenting the preseason, the amount of snaps the offense
took in the preseason, and stuff like that. It hasn't
(33:07):
been very positive bone for the last couple of weeks.
So I'm asking an honest question that I would like
to hear answers from. Is there anyone or anything that
you feel better about as a Carolina Panther a fan?
Then you did it to start a training camp or things?
All neutral or worse? Bony, I gotta go first. Oh no,
(33:30):
not you too.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
I'm just kidding. I would say you give like an
individual player. I guess I feel good about a certain
unit the secondary. I think I'm alright with J. C.
Speaker 1 (33:41):
Horne.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
I like Mike Jackson.
Speaker 2 (33:43):
I think Mayor rag is going to be worth the money,
and I think Ransom is going to be that dude. Yeah,
I'm not too happy about Nick Scott at the moment,
but I don't think that he's going to be their
long term. I feel pretty good about at least the
first level of the secondary. I don't I feel good
about them. I was gonna it's similar to you. So
now we're gonna now we're gonna have to move on
and get different answers. Is there a possible different answer
(34:03):
to this for here, I shouldn't get greedy.
Speaker 5 (34:07):
We found we found one thing that we feel better about,
the cornerback position, and.
Speaker 3 (34:12):
You know what, I would throw in safety too.
Speaker 5 (34:14):
I mean, like, I think Ransom and Richardson both had
really good camps. I kind of like the two young
bucks there did. I stopped even wanting us to add
a safety at the cutdown day. I was fine with
that four. I wasn't asking that to be a position
where we go out and hunt for. So I think
that one definitely because of Ransom and richards and not
because the nixt s, gut and corner. I feel better
(34:35):
about Corey Thornton's an absolute revelation. We know a damn
thing about this kid, undrafted out of Louisville when camp started,
and now all of a sudden, bone I feel really
good about him. He seems like the next kind of
big physical corner not blazing, but big and physical that
you know, I think is is a baller. Sel Smith
Wade is another guy that I feel better about now
(34:56):
than I did at the start of camp. He's had
a great OTAs but I thought he had real good
camp as well. So I think that's a good answer.
And I think I was thinking the same thing as you.
But now we need to challenge bone. Is there anything
else that we feel better about? Because it wasn't a
preseason like some preseason's Bone, the momentum will grow, right,
(35:17):
things will go well, and we'll start to It doesn't
feel like it was a preseason where.
Speaker 3 (35:22):
Our momentum kind of and hype grew.
Speaker 5 (35:26):
I feel like we ended up with more questions and answers,
especially with the way the wide receiver in the icky
injury went at the end.
Speaker 2 (35:32):
Certainly, kicker is still a question and I'll feel great
about that. But I'll try another one here. Not that
I didn't feel good about it anyway. But when you
add Etn's ability to the running back room, I think
that he's an upgrade over Blacks year. Yes, and he's
got the returnability. I think Etn elevates the return game
and you add him to the running back room, I
(35:53):
think that's a that's something I feel better about.
Speaker 5 (35:55):
Yeah, I think that a third running back is an
improved spot. I definitely agree with that. I think this
kid can be a factor moving forward. We talked about
if Dowdo leaves after the one year deal, you know,
could he be the second guy Brooks. You know, he's
a wildcard in that because we don't know what the injuries.
But yeah, I E Tan impressed me. John from Gastonia
says he feels better about drafting T Mac and he
(36:17):
feels better about the secondary. So I do I think
maybe secondary might be the one answer that maybe we
agree upon. Yeah, T Mac, Yeah, I think I still
think you you saw those young guy moments, those moments
of them working for chemistry. I do think I do
wonder bone about something like separation that I wondered about
(36:38):
pre draft. But I also think the dude's gonna make
a ton of catches with very little separation. He's he's
a type of guy bone. It doesn't need a lot
of separation to be open. Yeah, to be T Mac open,
get in in that radius and let him do some work.
I also have less questions about the you know, because
I wanted Jayalen Walker full admission, but I had I
had a lot of questions about is he adopt and
(37:00):
is he is his head on straight. You know you
had the old thing with I forget which analyst it was.
I think was Big Shay talking about when Jed Fish
left there. It's like, all of a sudden, this dude
didn't care, and like that's a red flag. I don't
really feel like he's gonna be a guy where like
he's dogging it. He doesn't care, he doesn't fight. I
(37:21):
don't really work, you know what I mean. So I
think I do feel better about t Mac that's a
good one, and anything else there. I think we've gone
through the good stuff. Is there a lot of answers
to this? I don't think there's a lot of comments
about Fiddy's date, but I don't know if there's a
lot of questions.
Speaker 2 (37:36):
There's also a lot of comments on what cologne Willie
might be wearing. Someone said he doesn't put on colone.
He uses a dry rum.
Speaker 5 (37:45):
Oh that's funny. Oh god, oh my god, that's funny.
Let's see what else we have. I feel better about
the QB three situation. That's Brad and Matthews. He did upgraded.
I feel I feel solid and sang I thought the
Hooker situation. I know Hooker had a rough preseason but
(38:05):
I do feel solid and saying going from Plumber to
Hooker's a good move. Have an area of the team
you feel boy edge rushers, Yeah, says he feels better
about the rookie edge rusher. He did have the collapse
along situation there, but he's rock and yeah, what.
Speaker 3 (38:23):
Do you got fit? Is his his question?
Speaker 5 (38:25):
This dude said, Mac asked a question with no damn answer.
Speaker 3 (38:29):
The preseason sucked.
Speaker 5 (38:31):
I'm so ready for the regular season and hopefully better vibes.
Is there anything that Panther fitting in all his strong
wearing glory, feels better about now than the start of camp.
Speaker 6 (38:43):
I mean, I definitely feel better about where I think
t Mac is. I thought you saw some growth in
some progress and limited action in the preseason, some of
the work he was able to get done in the
joint practices against the Browns and the Texans. I think
the thing that I thought I'd feel much more better
about Mac was that revent rebuilt defensive line, and I
(39:05):
thought Turk Wharton had some moments in preseason that maybe
left scratch left me scratching my head. I do like
what Princely and Nick Gorton put on film, though I
think Scordon's gonna be.
Speaker 7 (39:14):
A dog man.
Speaker 6 (39:15):
I think the effort that guy is gonna play with
is gonna be contagious and affectious to where it's gonna
be hard to keep him off the field. But when
you only see what five drives in the preseason, you
gotta wait till Sunday to really know where we're at.
But I think they're they're in a better spot than
they were a year ago. And that's still with the
roster that lacks depth on the defensive side of the football.
Speaker 5 (39:35):
Here's a ted This is an interesting text. Nine to
eight Oho number Mac. This may sound weird, but I
actually feel better because you boys are hyping the Panthers less.
Usually at this point the hype is at a fever pitch,
and I know we are about to get Mac cursed.
I don't feel that way this season happen. How about
(39:55):
so when Mac and Bone have that, well, really, he
said me. Mostly when Mac has it's about things that
puts Panther fans at ease.
Speaker 3 (40:02):
I'm here for you seven oh.
Speaker 2 (40:04):
Four number on the fan duel text line, he feels
better or this person that should say feels better about
being one more year removed from the Matt Rule era.
Speaker 3 (40:14):
I guess that counts.
Speaker 5 (40:14):
Hey, we're getting we're one year closer to the seventh
year of the seven.
Speaker 3 (40:17):
Year planed baby that's next year.
Speaker 5 (40:20):
Got a text that says Keon Coleman had some of
the same issues you're talking about with Team Mac with
separation last year in Buffalo. Give t Mac time, but
Keon Coleman had a disappointing season. Get twenty nine catches
last year in thirteen games. Team MAC is gonna blow
that away, isn't he?
Speaker 6 (40:37):
Like?
Speaker 5 (40:38):
You know? So if kea if T Mac has Keon
Coleman saying, I agree with you, there is a you know,
they were kind of comparable in that respect coming out,
But I just I if he has that kind of
rookie season, we're gonna be disappointed.
Speaker 2 (40:54):
During all this, we find out on the text line
that Granny Pat has made a statement that it's either
her or Belichick for the tar Heels. Either he's got
it go or she's out. Nothing nothing to do with
the current topic, but Granny Pat says that she'll be
rooting for the Charlotte forty nine ers this week.
Speaker 6 (41:12):
Oh he calls him disgusting. By the way, isn't he
younger than Granny Pat? How is he a disgusting old man?
Speaker 7 (41:18):
ZP? When you're older?
Speaker 5 (41:19):
She's so bothered by the not that we all haven't
had our level of bothered by the.
Speaker 3 (41:25):
Five Dude, Love is love.
Speaker 7 (41:26):
There's no age on love.
Speaker 3 (41:29):
Does that mean you're dating a geriatric tonight?
Speaker 5 (41:34):
I she's very bothered by Is she jelly? Is she jelly?
That old man Bill's got himself a young and have
to be four years jelly of the belly? Oh god, fiddy,
that is that your date tonight? Now?
Speaker 7 (41:49):
I tell you if I was taking Granny patout.
Speaker 2 (41:52):
When we come back, we almost went the entire show
with no Willie pe strays, and we got right up
to it and something happened there, hopefully on vacation.
Speaker 3 (41:59):
He didn't hear that.
Speaker 2 (42:00):
Willie P joins us next to talk about red Hots,
Charlotte FC, and the Panthers in Week one Sports Radio
WFNZ
