A guy Bone that you know finds itself close to
a fight. I mean at least every other game I
feel like, is the captain the X level of the
(01:58):
on the pitch, the captain of your red hot Charlotte
FC squad. Ashley Westwood, all around good guy as well,
joins us again here on the Mac and Bone Show. Ashley,
what's going on man? How you doing?
Speaker 1 (02:11):
Good morning?
Speaker 5 (02:11):
I'm not in another fight on the way to work.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
Do you do you ever get into like a road
rage situation? Do you get mad because you get mad
on the pitch and stand up for your team or yourself?
Do you ever get mad on the road.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
No, never, the wife does not for me at home.
Speaker 4 (02:37):
Okay, oh you're the late man, missus. Westy must be fiery,
all right. I respect that. I respect that. What was it?
Speaker 2 (02:46):
That's what I do on the field.
Speaker 5 (02:48):
I have to let it out on the field.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
I'm not allowed.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
That's it, you know what. That's actually me.
Speaker 4 (02:52):
That's actually me on the radio, Like I can't act
a fool like this at home and get away with it, Westy.
You know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
I can relate to you. That is hilarious. So what
was it like?
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Man?
Speaker 4 (03:04):
Having to had a yellow card accumulation so you had
to sit out the game? What was it like? Where
were you at watching this? Were you there? Were you
on your couch? And what was it like? Just having
to kind of be a fan for the night.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
It's horrible because you're not in control.
Speaker 5 (03:19):
But it was Listen, we didn't we didn't know the boys.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
Admit they didn't.
Speaker 5 (03:24):
Play very well to start with, but I think the
sending off. After the sending off, the game completely changed
and they controlled the game and I know there's going
to be one winner. So a huge result was that
five wins on the spin.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
Now, so we're in a good spot.
Speaker 6 (03:40):
Wes the Kalina's the reigning MLS keeper of the Year.
But having said that, his performance the other night was
that the best you've ever seen him in the net?
Speaker 5 (03:54):
H No, I think even last year he was. Last
year he was sensational, and I think we saw the
other night that kind of that's back to what we
saw last year. I think some of the stays he
poured off. I think the one that got deflected the
near post is the biggest day for me.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
Oh yeah, that was that. That react his reactions, man,
were on point.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
The other night.
Speaker 4 (04:16):
It was and we needed it too, the way that
game was going, we needed it. But that's a sweep
of Cincinnati and to do it without you, without pep Bl,
I mean it feels like you guys got your Are
you got?
Speaker 3 (04:29):
Are you back? Westy? And maybe you never lost it?
Speaker 4 (04:32):
But I think as a fan, I'm kind of back
with that confidence in you guys, Like, man, you can
make noise in the playoffs, Like is your confidence it?
Speaker 3 (04:40):
Did it ever leave you?
Speaker 4 (04:41):
Guys?
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Has it been there all along?
Speaker 4 (04:43):
And it's is your confidence that back to where you
believe you can contend for a championship?
Speaker 1 (04:50):
No, we never We never lost it. We knew. Listen,
not running May.
Speaker 5 (04:54):
And June was it's it's probably the hardest run I've
ever been on in football, when you're away from home
that many, that many times, and it's not just it's
different to being in England where you're traveling two hours
and there's no time difference, there's no there's no climate difference. Well,
here's completely different, and we were it was Saturday, Wednesday, Saturday.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
Listen, it was.
Speaker 5 (05:15):
It was tough, but we knew, we knew what we
had in our in our locker room. And I think
you see just looking at I've this is the first
time I've looked from Afar and I saw the other
night the squad that we've got the start eleven, it's
butten that.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
Could compete in most leagues in Europe.
Speaker 5 (05:31):
So we need to We never lost the confidence. We
just need to start start showing it more often and
away from home like we did the other night.
Speaker 6 (05:39):
How impressed have you been? Was Zaha's ability to create
not just for himself but his playmaking for others on
the team.
Speaker 5 (05:48):
Listen, I knew, I knew the minute he walked in
what what Wilf can do and lessen.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
People were, people were.
Speaker 5 (05:54):
Saying stuff, but I've always I've always stood by him.
He's he's a special player and thankfully is it's proved
me right.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
And he's been carried the he carried the shield last night.
Speaker 5 (06:05):
I'm from Pep and I think they'll they'll start to
flourish even more now. Wilf is Uh is a top
talent and he loves he loves the pressure to perform,
and I'm.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
Starting to see the real wolf again.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
Goal involvement in nine straight games, including the game winning
goal on a volley that was badass. We're talking to
Ashley Westwood Charlotte FC. Five straight wins on the spin
is how is how West? He and Dean Smith say
we would say five straight here in America six unbeaten
as well in a row. West The thing I want
(06:37):
to know about about Zaha, and we talked to you
about this before, but like he's very passionate, right, like
extremely passionate, And he came out in a presser like
a week or two ago and was kind of like
frustrated because people, you know, take when he's kind of
you know, barking the teammates as a bad thing. And
he I guess he sees that on social media, but
(06:59):
I want to know what it's like in the locker room,
like when he's barking at guys, Hey man, do this,
do that? Or hey pick it up? Like do you guys?
Does anybody in the locker room get offended by that?
Does that rub guys the wrong way? Or is that
something that everybody like wants from him?
Speaker 1 (07:16):
I think we we all have a moan.
Speaker 5 (07:18):
I'm probably the biggest moana on the field and training.
So I've said it before, it's but it's an English culture.
We shout, we moan, but we've we've got standards and
if people if we think people are better than what
they're showing them, well we'll.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
Say and want them to raise the standards.
Speaker 5 (07:36):
It's not it's not having a moone.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
We want people to get better. That's and Wilf's exactly
the same. Is well, Wilf is a.
Speaker 5 (07:44):
Winner, He's a born winner, and I certainly don't mind it.
I know, I'm sure it's it's hard to you have
to you have to grow up and you have to
learn very quickly if you want to if you want
to make a good living out of this game. It's
not it's not all on the backs and well done
you sometimes you need a good pick up.
Speaker 4 (08:04):
There you go by the way Westy. Do you think
being in the in the States now for a few years,
do you think that y'all moan more in England? Like,
are y'all grumpy or grouchier than we are in America?
Speaker 3 (08:15):
Or No?
Speaker 5 (08:18):
I think we've got a lot of We've got a
lot of English labs about British lads now and that
class twam as a British ladin we'll moan about anything, mate,
We're moaning about the food. Even if the food top class,
we'll still find some to moan about.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
So I think we're definitely.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
Worse, all right, because we can line too. Man, That's
what I'm honored. I'm honored that we're.
Speaker 3 (08:36):
Not as bad.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
I'm moaning about this weather.
Speaker 4 (08:40):
This.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
I thought this was your weather. I guess you. I
guess you were. You had enough of this? Huh?
Speaker 6 (08:46):
I've changed quickly, ca Well, I was made rightfully, so
a big pat Moving on. But how special has Tokuamadi
been in what's his long term upside here at MS?
Speaker 1 (09:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (09:01):
We we knew, listen, we knew obviously. The club, the
club got an offer that he probably couldn't turn down
for Pat and bad play to the zorn and on
the gaffer they score, they saw something and he Dian
And he's been phenomenal.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
I've even even.
Speaker 5 (09:17):
Pre season he was he's got everything. He can run behind,
he can leap. You saw for his goal wilfs Gold,
the way he got up above the defender with the header,
and he can do he can do a lot of things.
And yeah, he's he's not. He's not really surprised us.
We knew, we knew what he could do.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
He attacks the box well, he scores goal.
Speaker 5 (09:37):
He's always in the right area and thankfully now he's
got his chance.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
So he's and he fully deserves it.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
All right.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
We've got a text to your nine to eight Oho
number Westy. You can ask the captain it should be
a new feature bow when Westy comes on, ask the skipper,
ask the captain seven O four five seven oh nine
six ten. We have a text that it says was
was Ashley at home watching that game the other night?
I picture him on the couch, sipping his tea and
screaming at the TV.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
What were you? Did you travel to them? Or no?
Speaker 5 (10:07):
No, no, I was, I was, we don't travel because
there's no point in pain in front of the room
so that they will be the home.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
But no, I watched. I watched on the sofa.
Speaker 5 (10:17):
I had to watch it on mute because I can't
listen to the commentary I had.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
I was. I didn't know I was drinking the medello,
so I only had one. I was training the.
Speaker 6 (10:33):
Please tell me you don't turn down everyone else, mate,
Please tell me when you're driving around, you don't turn
down sports talk radio though, right, no, no.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
No, all mate, I'm always always tuned into you guys.
Speaker 4 (10:46):
It's a promo, right, even though we forced him to
say that, I feel like that's a promo right there,
all right, h yeah, I was wondering about that too.
You're so fiery. I was wondering if there was some
screaming there. What do you think about uh, what do
you think about life without pep BL?
Speaker 3 (11:03):
I tried to be.
Speaker 4 (11:04):
I tried to get my tactics on last week Westy
and I was saying, I think Zaha has got to
play the ten. So clearly Dean was listening to just
like you, and he plays him at the ten, and
I'll be damned if it didn't get real good until
he just moved him back to the wing and put
Vargas in the middle.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
So maybe maybe that idea stunk.
Speaker 4 (11:22):
What do you think is the what's how do you
get by without pep bl Is there is there a
right person to plug there in that spot?
Speaker 3 (11:30):
Or what do you think.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
He's he's a huge loss. He's been he's been sensational.
Speaker 5 (11:36):
Yeah, well, I personally like Wilf on the left. I
think the way the way he comes inside, I like him.
They plays his fru balls and Beavers played there last year.
Was did a real good job there. We've got Eric
who can play there, so we're listen, we'll we're going
to miss him, but it's time for someone else to
step up, and hopefully I don't think it's as bad
(11:58):
as first fit, So I'm hoping he's back.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
He's back sooner rather than all right.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
Man, Hey, we always appreciate you giving us some time here.
Can't wait to see you get back on the field.
On Saturday night, Salt Lake's coming in real Salt Lakes
seven point thirty.
Speaker 3 (12:17):
Uh and you can.
Speaker 4 (12:17):
Get your ticket Charlotte Footballclub dot com. I'm telling you
to wait, his team is playing. The experience, the vibe
at the stadium. If you've never gone, man, you've got
to take it in west He thanks for coming on.
Good luck on Saturday.
Speaker 5 (12:29):
Man, thank you lads, thanks again, I would be good.
Speaker 4 (12:33):
All right there You what Ashley Westboro or one of
his lads? Man, Yeah, do you think he really does
listen to us? It felt like I felt like it
kind of force sounding. Yeah, I felt like it.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
By the way, actually good ones it now though officially.
Speaker 4 (12:47):
Yeah, So they've had a little striker helped two million
dollars I think is what it was going to be.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
So they didn't go crazy three and a half years contract. Okay,
So and he's young.
Speaker 4 (12:56):
I mean it's from the Australian League, so it's not
like they you know, it's not a prom league. But
I think it's a guy they want to split it
with Toklamatti. I think they're impressed enough bone like you
were saying with Westy with Toplamati where they feel like
we don't need a guy to play over him. You know,
it's a guy that can split the duties, they can
compete for for the reps and stuff like that. But man,
Westy's fun to talk to. I love it, love it
(13:18):
well right, Oh yeah, the new goalie too. I don't
know if that's official yet. We'll ask Willie about it.
Coming up, will He's on at nine o'clock. But Drake
Calendar from Miami, I'm thinking that's depth. I'm not thinking
they want to push Kolleena the way he's played the
last few times out. But anyway, Drake Calendar coming in
from Miami, it sounds like to when we come back.
His weekly spot a day later. Adam Gold from ninety
(13:38):
nine point ninety fan in Raleigh. We taught college football
and he's got a sports take that we need to discuss.
Don't miss this Sports Radio WFNZ Sports Radio ninety two
(14:11):
seven wfn Z Mack and Bone with you. I got
to be honest, I'm shocked about something I just we
just learned off the air mockt our Gi former Tario
basketball player. We went down a rabbit hole here bit
on a Dang player was accused of spitting right in
(14:32):
the final four game.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
Yep on a Utah player.
Speaker 4 (14:35):
And I thought I heard this during the summer league coverage,
that he was like an executive, like in scouting or
something apparently he's got like a twenty plus year career.
Speaker 6 (14:44):
In pro basketball. He came up randomly crazy. He came
up randomly during the break. He is the director of
pro Personnel at International Scouting for Dallas after nine years
behind the scenes in the Knicks front office. Was also
a play your agent with Wasserman Agency prior to the
Knicks nine year run.
Speaker 3 (15:04):
So I had no idea for him.
Speaker 6 (15:06):
He's also the GM of Senegal Basketball, so I did
not I did not know he was doing all this.
Speaker 3 (15:12):
Good for him, I guess, like, you know, I don't
want to.
Speaker 4 (15:15):
I just I mean, I don't want to act like
I thought Bone that he would be like, you know,
have Fitty's job or something like that, you know what
I'm saying. I'm not saying that, But like, I just
all right, good for him what he was doing. He
was a knucklehead, so he must have matured.
Speaker 6 (15:28):
That's also today's sign that we desperately need real football
games for the part two.
Speaker 2 (15:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (15:32):
I don't know what this matters about anything going on
in y'all's day to day life, but anyway, last I
saw him, Bone, he was holding up the where's Duke's signed?
Speaker 6 (15:39):
The final four all right, wow, what are you doing here?
All right, let's let me hawk a loogie on you.
Speaker 4 (15:45):
Let's try to talk about things that are more pertinent
to the here and now. All Right, Adam gold joins us.
You know, you can hear him in Raleigh. That's been
the case for multiple decades, ninety nine to nine the
fan in Raleigh Middays. You can hear his show weeknights
here on WFNZ. I was listening to a bunch of
his show Bone while sitting in a parking lot my
(16:05):
daughter's dance school as she was at ballet class, and
I'm listening to Goldie in Victoria. Uh, and it works
beautifully in the evenings here on WFNZ. Goldie, what's going on?
Speaker 2 (16:16):
Man?
Speaker 3 (16:16):
How you doing?
Speaker 2 (16:17):
I'm doing well man at mac tart Jost stuff is?
I mean, it just demonstrates the pullet Dean Smith, doesn't
it is?
Speaker 3 (16:25):
That what you is? That what you think it is?
Speaker 2 (16:28):
That's my take on it.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
Yeah, that that's me that can't hurt.
Speaker 4 (16:32):
It also shows that you could grow up and mature,
because he certainly wasn't mature when he was in college.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
You know, he was uh, we'll just say emotional.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
College definitely was.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
The Three Stops Loo can he at wake Forest also
for Hot Minute?
Speaker 6 (16:49):
Yeah, Texas says he got waker recruiting violation. Then he
was at about that he was at Michigan.
Speaker 4 (16:55):
All right, Well, anyway, that goes to show if you're
a knuckleheading.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
Hell, why am I surprised? Bone? I was the biggest
knuckleheat around in college, you know.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
Mean, oh me? I was a good boy in college.
Speaker 4 (17:07):
Okay, all right, Well there's different paths. There's different paths
to sports radio careers.
Speaker 6 (17:12):
Apparently I partied a lot in college because my friends
went to college.
Speaker 3 (17:17):
Goldie uhing me in.
Speaker 4 (17:18):
We are very excited about this Panther wide receiving corps.
The depth something we often don't have, the depth in
the wide receiving corps. We're very excited about the running game.
Bryce Young, Do you think we should be pumped about
this offense or would you tell us to pump the brakes?
Speaker 2 (17:38):
No? I think the offense is going to be very
good as long as the offensive line stays healthy. And
based on the depth chart that they released for this week,
it looks like Lewis and Hunt are going to be fine.
I mean, remember last year they rebuilt the interior of
that O line. So if the O line stays intact, Yeah,
(18:00):
their offense is gonna be very good and they're gonna
need it. Excuse me because I don't think their defense
is going to be very good. Again, maybe it won't
be as tragic.
Speaker 3 (18:12):
As it was a europe It can't it can't be.
It can't be well, you never know, it.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
Can, but their offense should be very good.
Speaker 6 (18:23):
Do you think that eight to ten wins is doable
for this team?
Speaker 2 (18:30):
Yeah? You know. I was talking to a buddy of
mine yesterday on the air, and I don't know if
you're going to turn it down there. You heard about
the range five to eleven wins.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
Yes, yeah, five to.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
Eleven wins, and I went eleven.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
You weren't having that. I heard that.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
I don't think eleven. Uh, it's certainly not a realistic range,
but you never know. This is why sports is amazing. Uh.
You get off to a good start you wouldn't gain
or two that you don't figure to win, like I
think if you look at the Panthers first seven games,
like theoretically every one of those games could be a win.
(19:11):
Right the back half of the schedule is hard. But
you know, theoretically you can say, well, yeah, they can
win that game. That wouldn't be too much of a stretch.
It's a stretch to say they're gonna win all seven.
But look, I think their offense could carry them to
uh seven wins, and then if the defense is better
than I think it's gonna be, then maybe you're talking
(19:34):
about you know, nine. I think I think the division
is in play because we just don't know. Yeah, and
I think this division could be won with nine wins.
Nine or ten is in cards then, yeah, So all
we really want is for them to have a chance
(19:54):
when you head to Thanksgiving.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
I would think he'll be nice, which meaningful Thanksgiving football time?
Speaker 4 (20:02):
Yes, seriously, And can I get greedy and ask for
December as well?
Speaker 3 (20:05):
Gone too far?
Speaker 4 (20:06):
You know, December to still be in the mix. Uh,
we have a goal, Goldie. It's to be on the
in the Hunt graphic they put up on Fox in
the month of December. Like, wow, while we're Christmas shopping,
to actually still be on the in the Hunt graphic.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
Oh yeah, I think I think that. I think that
will be a uh that'll happen.
Speaker 4 (20:25):
Yes, ah, God, Now we're vibing, baby, Now we are vibing, Goldie?
Speaker 3 (20:31):
Did I? Okay?
Speaker 4 (20:31):
So I was listening, all right, so and yeah I
heard that with Will Brinson and I kind of with you.
I would go like seven to ten as the range.
I don't want to be all right, I don't you
know something like that.
Speaker 2 (20:41):
We want to live in reality, right, If we want
to live in reality.
Speaker 3 (20:44):
It's that's kind of what I feel like.
Speaker 4 (20:47):
But some people would say six or five's in play,
and I would disagree with that. I do feel like
like I do feel Goldie, like you bring a point
about the defense, and I'm not gonna lie. An hour
before you came on, I was lament. I was praising
the offense and still being paranoid about the defense. Had
about special teams, plus a lot of key guys on
special teams. But like the five or like the five
(21:08):
or six win crowd, there's a lot of them in
the national media. I just I feel like Dan Morgan
addressed too much defensively for them to still be like
a five win team or only pick up one win.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
Yeah, I know, I think they'll be better. I still look,
I'm not really a Mike Jackson guy, so to me,
I think they have half of a good starting secondary.
And I think that to me, Jackson should be a
depth player, not a not a starter. But if something
happens to j C. Horn, it to me it's a disaster.
(21:46):
Like they needed a better cornerback on the other side,
I thought.
Speaker 4 (21:50):
Really, I mean, didn't had like seventeen eighteen pass breakups
last year he got He gets targeted more than Horn.
Obviously they'll throw away from Horn. But I think he
was up to the task a lot.
Speaker 3 (22:01):
But nobody get targeted.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
The guys are get a lot of interceptions to get targeted.
Speaker 3 (22:06):
Because j C.
Speaker 4 (22:07):
Horns on the other side, no one, no one is
contending that he should be thrown at. You know that
people should throw at Chase Horn more. I just thought
he was up to the task a lot last year.
You know, he's physical.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
I think reasonable reasonable people can have differing opinions, all right.
Speaker 3 (22:25):
What about us too? What about what about to unreasonable people?
I was reasonable people.
Speaker 4 (22:34):
I was like, is he really including me in this
reasonable minds thing?
Speaker 3 (22:37):
I'm not sure?
Speaker 2 (22:38):
All right?
Speaker 6 (22:39):
Gody On CDs Sports Inside College Football last night, Aaron
Taylor predicted Clemston to go undefeated this year. How much
of a chance do you give that of happening? Uh?
Speaker 2 (22:52):
Better than the Panthers winning eleven?
Speaker 3 (22:58):
Gody just created a debate here on the show.
Speaker 2 (23:03):
Yeah, I mean, could they sure they could? The conference
schedules not super hard. It's not super easy either. I
think I went through plumbson schedule and said that there
were five losable games, uh, including the two SEC non
conference games Notre Dame, right, but play they played Notre
(23:26):
Dame this year and and frankly they're gonna play Notre
Dame just about it.
Speaker 3 (23:32):
They don't.
Speaker 4 (23:32):
They don't, but that will start soon where they play
them every year.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
I think I think it starts next year. But you know,
their non conference schedule is difficult South Carolina. At the
end of the season, I think South Carolina's going to
be good, but man, what seventeen to no winning a
national Like I assume Aaron Taylor is also talking about
winning a national championship. I think Clemson will probably drop
(23:57):
one game during the regular season, hopefully, if not the
first one or the last one. You know, you can
drop a conference game and win the ACC championship game
and then going to the playoff and have a chance.
I want to see it. I want to see Clemson's
offensive line. We know how good they are defensively, they
(24:17):
are loaded on the defensive line, but I have not
seen a great Clemson offensive line in a long time.
And you're just not gonna go undefeated unless your offensive
line is great.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
Yeah, it is a veteran group, no doubt about it. Though.
This year for Clemson upfront, pretty damn good group. Goldie.
Speaker 4 (24:37):
I'll ask you a question this way, do you think
in twenty twenty five, like, is there is there a
team this year in college football or a team or
two that you would look at and say, I think
they've got a great chance to go unbeaten. Nor do
you think we've reached the point of parody where you
would bet against there being any unbeaten teams?
Speaker 1 (24:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (24:57):
I mean Penn State probably got the best chance because
Penn State schedule is atrociously bad. Literally, Penn State schedule
is two yames home against Oregon and at Ohio State.
Speaker 3 (25:15):
Uh oh.
Speaker 4 (25:16):
As long as the one game is the one that
we never win, I say, as to the Penn State fan,
you got it.
Speaker 3 (25:24):
For us to go and be don't.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
So that to me, it's it's a lot of it
has to do with your schedule. So Penn State schedule,
like their non conference schedule, they should be eliminated from
any question of benefit of the doubt. Indiana thinks that
Penn State's non conference schedule is terrible.
Speaker 4 (25:51):
Hey, at least we didn't have Virginia scheduled and then
run scared from them, all right, at least got that.
Speaker 3 (25:55):
We at least got that going for us.
Speaker 4 (25:57):
But yes, I'm pretty sure, Goldie, that there are high
school teams that could go unbeaten in the Penn State
non conference if.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
I'm not mistaken. Doesn't Penn State play Villanova?
Speaker 3 (26:07):
Yes, Villanova's in there.
Speaker 2 (26:09):
Lellanova's I think a top ten FCS preseason team.
Speaker 3 (26:14):
Oh there you go.
Speaker 4 (26:15):
Okay, So when next next time a Buckeye fan bashes
our non conference schedule, use.
Speaker 3 (26:20):
That fact we got a top ten team. It's Villanova FC. Yes,
Indiana and.
Speaker 6 (26:25):
Penn State, Goldie schedule like like Duke and Carolina's exhibition
basketball games.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
No questions. By the way, this stat I actually had
to go do the research on this. Uh. There are
ten teams in college football that do not play a
power for non conference.
Speaker 4 (26:47):
Game.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
Six of them are from the Big Ten. There are
eleven schools that play two power for non conference games,
and all eleven are from the Acco.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
There you go. How about that?
Speaker 4 (27:04):
That sounds like something Jim by the way, it sounds
like something Jim Phillips will teut. Uh yeah, exactly at
some point, all right, Goldie, Well hey you are the man, Goldie.
What's up, by the way with your UFC slander? Goldie?
Did do you like is your stance that UFC is
not a sport?
Speaker 2 (27:21):
Like?
Speaker 3 (27:21):
Did? I am?
Speaker 1 (27:22):
I here?
Speaker 2 (27:23):
I didn't say that, I just say I just said.
It has never appealed to me. I'm not I'm a
I'm a lover, not a fighter. I don't like I
don't like being hit or punched in the face or kicked.
I don't want to watch people hit or punch others
in the face. Uh you know, I you know, sing
(27:44):
sing me a song?
Speaker 3 (27:45):
What about hockey? It's gonna be about hockey a CBS.
Speaker 2 (27:48):
I'm not a hockey fight.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
Oh okay, I'm not a hockey oh boxing?
Speaker 2 (27:53):
Real, real funny story. Do you guys know? Stan Fishler
is long time old school uh like hockey columnist clearly
New york eras clearly, yes, clearly he wrote a book.
He once wrote a book about the tough guys in hockey,
and we had him on the show. Uh, and I said,
(28:17):
are you Are you in any way, uh, you know,
bothered that people are criticizing you like I'm not a
fight guy, like that you're glorifying something that really doesn't
have a place in today's game. And he's threatened to
hang up on me.
Speaker 4 (28:37):
I have trotted that in the past here, saying I
just don't understand the point of fighting. Why is it like,
uh revered and oh my god, hockey guys. Yeah, hockey
guys wanted to pull the sweater up over my head
and go to town. They did, they did.
Speaker 2 (28:52):
I don't get it. It doesn't do any like the
whole idea. Well, it gets my team fired up. Yeah,
it also got.
Speaker 4 (28:58):
The other teams, true, that is okay? All right?
Speaker 3 (29:02):
How about that Stan Fisher?
Speaker 6 (29:05):
Because I got him as the head of the Federal
Reserve from twenty fourteen to seventeen.
Speaker 4 (29:10):
Then I get the name. Oh all right, are Goldy
great talk man? We are talk We will talk to
you next week. Everybody listening to Goldie Evenings here on
that fan Z see you brother, all right there you go,
Adam go.
Speaker 3 (29:25):
I would have thought, for see, that's interesting. I thought I.
Speaker 4 (29:28):
Caught him there for a second bone because he's a
big hockey guy. I thought I caught him when he's like,
I don't like watching people punch people, And then I'm like,
what about when they're on skates? But he don't want
to see anybody punch a by you at all.
Speaker 6 (29:39):
No, speaking of fights, Matt, we have a guy that's
furious at me on the text line right now. Why
what do you do now? I'm not even sure why
the guy is so angry. He is just hating on
the Panthers because of their two geriatric wide receivers. I said,
who's the other one? Guy's name is Country Bumpkin. He's
calling Hunter Renfro a geriatric. He said he's only twenty
(30:01):
nine and he's not even one of the top three
wide receivers. And then he just went off on me.
So Country Bumpkin Mac does not believe in the Panthers.
Speaker 2 (30:08):
Bro.
Speaker 4 (30:08):
They got four receivers, are probably gonna make the roster
in four receivers on their roster in their first or
second year, God forbid. They have a twenty nine year
old and a guy in his thirties there with the
kids like it's.
Speaker 3 (30:20):
Ridict geriatric receivers. They got dudes in diapers on his
damner side. This guy's cussing me out.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
Now.
Speaker 6 (30:26):
Oh, by the way, sometimes I can fight them both.
You have see five times I drawed the contact, But
this one I'm I'm I'm getting fouled here on this guy.
Speaker 3 (30:33):
Turn that hat around. Time to go to work.
Speaker 6 (30:36):
Can't believe I'm fighting a guy named Country Bumpkin when
we come back. Bryce Young is one of the top
movers in the annual Quarterback Tier rankings in the Athletic
We discussed Sports Radio ninety two to seven WFNZ MAC
and The Good Doctor.
Speaker 3 (31:13):
All Right.
Speaker 4 (31:13):
Sports Radio ninety two seven WFNZ. I just saw America's
royal couple Bone on TV. It was the clip of
Travis Kelcey and Taylor Swift where Taylor announces, I know
a lot of you are excited about this. Taylor announces
her new album is coming out, her twelfth album, and
the podcast, The Full Podcast with Tata as the guest
(31:37):
of the Kelsey Brothers on New Heights, drops tonight at
seven o'clock. Is it acceptable Bone that I am excited
and we'll listen to this at seven oh one tonight.
I want to hear the dynamic of the two of them.
I'm very intrigued. I find them to be an adorable couple.
Is that acceptable?
Speaker 3 (31:55):
Bone?
Speaker 6 (31:56):
It's expected to break the all time podcast hits record
one hundred and forty four million was something. It was
a foreign podcast. I don't remember exactly what it was called,
but it got one hundred and forty four million hits.
They think tonight that this could pass on new heights
over eventually over one hundred and forty four hits. Here's
(32:16):
the forty four million here. Here's the thing this this
out does our panther trading cam interviews.
Speaker 4 (32:21):
Which is crazy. That should not happen here ayj janswer,
it is uh, not far behind this. Here's the question, Bone,
Will there be any other men listening other than me?
Speaker 2 (32:30):
Though?
Speaker 3 (32:30):
That's the question. Are you intrigued or not? Yeah? No,
I am? I want? Do you want to see it?
Speaker 4 (32:35):
You do?
Speaker 3 (32:35):
Do you care about this?
Speaker 4 (32:36):
Fitty No? Now, you probably speak for most of our audience.
Speaker 7 (32:41):
Founder has predicted that I'll have to pull audio of
this podcast. He told me on Tuesday when because we
were recording. When they announced the podcast was dropping, he said,
be prepared because I'm action on one audio one.
Speaker 4 (32:53):
I need to hear some funny moments we took because
we don't really get to hear there's nothing one of those.
If there's nothing that, did you just pull adorable? What
if you just pull an adorable heartwarming moment?
Speaker 3 (33:05):
Are you jealous? She calls them? Sweetems? Are you like
my wife calls me? I don't know. Are you jealous?
The heel Top Blog podcast can't do this number? These numbers?
That is part of it. Hey, you and Flounder could
call each other sweetems. I listen to that.
Speaker 6 (33:16):
You go get Carolina mic On. The guy who played
the other that went viral, the guy with this Why.
Speaker 3 (33:20):
Is this guy elusive? Man? We can't get this guy?
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (33:23):
Man?
Speaker 4 (33:23):
All right, anyway, let me have to pay him one
hundred and fifty thousand dollars. Let me lock in here
before for the Texters. For the Texters, aren't calling me names.
I don't care if wanting to listen to New Heights
at seven oh one the night is wrong, I don't
want to be right. All right, Let's talk a few
minutes here about this Bryce Young thing. In the midst
of all the ranting that we did that I did
yesterday Bone, especially about some of the like predictions for
(33:48):
the Panthers and rankings and all this stuff on a
negative standpoint, Bryce Youngbone.
Speaker 3 (33:54):
In the annual Athletic.
Speaker 4 (33:57):
Quarterback Tiers rankings, Ryce Young was the third highest mover
in terms of spots moved up. Now, it's still modest.
He moved up from twenty eight to twenty four. So
it's not like I'm telling you Bryce Young is in
the top ten. But only two quarterbacks, only Darnold and Baker, ironically,
two former Panther qbts.
Speaker 3 (34:17):
There's my god, there's a lot of dex Panthers out there.
Speaker 4 (34:20):
God, that's and they always seem to go up when
they leave here, don't they in the rankings. But anyway,
those are the only two that went up more than him.
He moved up a tier. This is kind of the
big news. This is some of the executive comments. They
because it's not done by writers. It's executives president passed.
It's coaches president pass that are on a panel of
like fifty people, So I mean, I feel like it's legit.
(34:43):
Mahomes was number one, but they moved him up from
tier four to Tier three Bony, and that Tier three
spans from I think like fifteen to twenty five or so.
It is, like, So, I mean, I don't think it's
a terrible range for him after basically a good half
season out of two years, right, I don't think it's
a bad range for him to be in if people
(35:03):
thought enough of him bone to jump him up a
tier and to put him in Tier three, And I
do believe a move to Tier two in the near
future is definitely possible for Bryce Young.
Speaker 6 (35:14):
I think it's the right range. I know that we
don't want him to stay at number twenty four, but
to me, it's who he's ahead of and who he's with.
In Tier three, he's ahead of Russell Wilson, Kirk Cousins, Fields,
Pennix McCarthy, Daniel Jones, other lists MAC have had him
with those guys below.
Speaker 2 (35:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (35:31):
Yeah, he needs to be above those guys and in
his tier, like in his number range Trevor Lawrence, Gino
Smith bow Nicks, Darnold Drake May, Caleb Williams. So we
can debate within the tier where he should be, but
there's been other tiers MAC when he has not been
other rankings. He has not been listed with Knicks in
Williams and May. As long as he's with those guys,
(35:54):
I'm good with that and not necessarily caring about what
number is.
Speaker 4 (35:57):
The Tier three description is legit starter who needs a
run game and a defense to win, and then it
goes on to say, like, you know, couldn't carry a
pass heavy offense. I don't have a problem with Bryce
Young being in its tier. I don't know if y'all
do being in a tier where that's a description right
now Listen, I mean Kyler Murray.
Speaker 3 (36:19):
Too also, who are higher up in the tier. But
if you're in there.
Speaker 4 (36:21):
Also, if he maxes out in tier three, it will
be a disappointment to me. Like if he maxes out
in that tier and doesn't get to Tier two at least,
I would be disappointed if that description fits him his
whole career. Legit starter but needs a run game and
a defense to win, can't carry a pass heavy offense,
I would be disappointed. But I think for where he
(36:42):
is right now, I think it's fair. Tier two stops
at fourteen and that's rock perty So as a number
one overall pick with the expectations.
Speaker 3 (36:52):
He can't stay well.
Speaker 6 (36:54):
The thing is, though, like Kayle Williams also can't stay there,
Bo Knicks can't stay there. Trevor Warren should not be
there to really honestly should not be seventeen. But it's
only because of the health. It's only like, if you
read what they're saying, it's only because of what he's
in the tier mac of expectations, where a lot of
those guys you expect to move up a tier at
some point, So I think he's that to me is
(37:14):
I'm of all the lists we get mad at, I'm good.
I'm good with with this one based on progress, based
off the neighbors that he has.
Speaker 4 (37:21):
They acknowledge progress. Right, he moves up a tier, he
moves up four spots. There's like that. The people that
get me mad when they rank Bryce or they talk
about Bryce is the ones that don't really acknowledge any
progress or I think the progress is fake.
Speaker 3 (37:33):
They're at least acknowledging the progress.
Speaker 6 (37:34):
Was the one list that had him down there with
like Joe with a CBS, which one had with a
Cody Benjamin. I forget who it was that had him
with Flacco and all Justin Field and Russell Wilson, and
I'm trying to knock those guys. It was a scrubbino Tier.
That's the other guys that I look for.
Speaker 3 (37:51):
Tier.
Speaker 4 (37:52):
Let's see, let me read a couple of these quotes
real quickly. Willie p coming up nine o'clock. We'll talk Panthers,
We'll talk some FC. Those boys are on five. They've
added striker Archie Goodwin, might be adding a backup keeper,
so we'll talk to We got a lot to talk
about with p Man. A couple of these quotes, because
again it's executives past and president, coaches passed in president.
(38:12):
Here's one from a let's see an executive executive of
an AFC team cast the lost so it only got
ones here, two vote.
Speaker 3 (38:21):
It's from this guy.
Speaker 4 (38:21):
Whoever this executive from an AFC team is he says quote,
I think he's taken that step. He has learned to
play at his size in a national football league. He
was a drop away from beating Philly. If he comes
back with that same type of play, which I think
he will, with the same coach and coordinator, you will
see better, more consistent play. See I like this AFC guy.
I wonder who this guy is? That Brandon bean Ben
(38:44):
I was seeking the same thing. Now here's one. See
how about what do you think of this one? Defensive
coordinator that voted said this. Of course they're all anonymous, right.
I was watching him pregame and I'm like, the ball
does not jump out of his hand very well, and
he's small. I just don't know if there's enough talent
to really become a tier two, to be honest. So
(39:06):
I guess there's a feeling it goes back to the
physical attributes are not strong enough, not big enough, tier two.
Though he can't get into tier two with the way
he makes up for it with accuracy and anticipation and
ability to improvise like those things and processing.
Speaker 3 (39:23):
He can't get to tier two.
Speaker 6 (39:25):
He can't get into that twelve to fifteen range, which
is Prescott Love who Love is I think talent wise,
I like Love. I actually think he should be higher
if he's fully healthy, But he can't get into that
Prescott Love, Purty Kyler Murray Area like to me, that's
he can. I mean, look, he's not there yet. I
(39:45):
don't think he should be top fifteen yet. But you
don't think he can get there in time as the
team gets better around him.
Speaker 3 (39:51):
That's the thing.
Speaker 6 (39:52):
As the team gets better around him and he plays
that point guard role, when everyone's doing their roles to
the best of their ability, that's only going to make
So he's not done growing yet. He's he's he's Klay,
He's being molded still. If you say his ceiling is
not a top ten quarterback of all time, I would
argue with you on that, And I had Panther fans
like I said that, I feel like Bryce Fitty. My
(40:16):
vision for Bryce is I could see him being seventh
in the league one year, eighth, ninth in the league.
I that that second part of the top ten. I
honestly believe he can get to because I think he
has these other other attributes. I mentioned, what do you
think his ceiling is? Because Bone's right, this guy that
this this coach that says I don't think his ceiling
(40:38):
is in Tier two. That means he can't become a
top fourteen quarterback. That that's I am with that.
Speaker 3 (40:43):
Yeah, I disagree with that. I mentioned this to you yesterday.
Speaker 7 (40:48):
We were talking about this, like there's a scenario Mac
where Bryce lives up to being what he was supposed
to be his number one pick, where he emerges as
maybe the best quarterback in the NFC, but because of
just how to the AFC is of that position, he's
still the fifth, sixth, seventh best quarterback in.
Speaker 3 (41:05):
All of football. I think he'll be solidly in Tier
two next year.
Speaker 7 (41:09):
Whenever we're having this conversation going into twenty twenty six,
wearing is Bryce rank. I think he will establish himself
as a quarterback that's in the top half of the league,
but closer to top ten to twelve than the guy that's
in the bottom half of the league at twenty four.
Speaker 4 (41:23):
If he is not bone regarded and again I shouldn't
put a lot of stock in these lists and what
you know, people aren't watching every game and all that stuff.
But like, if he's not regarded as least right there
around fifteen, like I that's that is extremely doable. Second
year in the offense, better weapons around him.
Speaker 6 (41:42):
Can I point out something else about the quarterback tier
that stuck out to me? Is tied for nine. Jalen
Hurts is tied with Stroud at nine, and he's a
couple spots behind Justin Herbert. Look, we know there's a
lot of help for Jalen Hurts, but a guy who
wins football games, man and Justin Herbert is not a
better quarterback. If you're drafting a team right now, I'm
(42:04):
not taking Herbert over Jalen Hurts. I'm not taking Stroud
over Hurts.
Speaker 3 (42:08):
Right now.
Speaker 4 (42:08):
Stroud's still nine. I know his offensive line was garbage
last year, but Stroud he wasn't. I know he didn't
play like that last year.
Speaker 6 (42:16):
Right now, Stroud is nine on this list, Baker Mayfield's eleven.
With all that Baker Mayfield has to work with right now,
Abuka has been a beast in training camp. I would
player for player, not looking ahead to the full time future,
but for this year, I take Baker Mayfield head of
c J.
Speaker 3 (42:32):
Strout.
Speaker 6 (42:33):
That's a low for Mayfield too, I think, to be
honest with you. When we come back on the Mack
and Bone Show, a lot of Charlotte f news developing
over night and today we'll ask Willie p about that
and his thoughts on where Bryce is in the tier
rankings as well. On Sports Radio ninety two seven, Doug
find
