Speaker 1 (00:23):
Sports Radio two seven WFNZ, Mac and Bone with you.
Happy Tuesday, everybody. We checked it again, Bone, it has
not changed. Panther's still tied for first place. Baby, still
tied for first place. And I still refuse, despite a
lot of begging from the fans.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
I refuse to declare we're winning the division.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
A lot of people are asking, Bone, A lot of people,
a lot of people are asking, people are saying, hear me.
Ninety two people are saying, Baby, I'm saying they want
Mac to lead the wagon, and I'm saying, no, Baby,
I'm staying measured.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
A lot of people will try to set you up
to then blame you.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
I think, is what is that?
Speaker 2 (00:59):
What it is? They think, Look, it's a good idea. Now,
then they're gonna be the first in line. I want
to fight you out of local gas.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
Does work? It does work that way, man, anyway. All right,
So let's do this coming up here on the Mac
and Bone Show. As we continue to final our ESPN
radios lead analysts for college football games on the radio,
Kelly Stopfer's going to join us. Maybe we actually break
down some playoff matchups. We really hadn't gotten to that yet. Bone,
who's playing. We've been I know Notre Dame's not.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Stu can play. I can tell you is your team
in a bowl game? Oh oh, anyway, he's coming up.
Bone need to hear at nine to twenty five, Joe
Person doesn't need to hear this. Joe Person is going
to get my Sika. One of my Sycamore shoutouts today.
Bone a fellow local craft beer drinker like myself. Joe Person,
have yourself Joe a Christmas cookie ale from Sycamore. Right now,
(01:53):
Joe Person is in the house ready to talk Carolina
Panther football. Joe, what's going on?
Speaker 3 (01:59):
Bro?
Speaker 2 (01:59):
This craft beer during the bye week for you?
Speaker 3 (02:01):
Sir? Uh?
Speaker 4 (02:03):
You know what? I was trying to lose some of
that Thanksgiving punch.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
Oh wow? Oh I was kind of light on the
craft beer.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
I gotta be honest with.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
Okay, I respect it. I don't have that sort of
what we can will power, but I respect it.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
Well.
Speaker 4 (02:17):
You piqued my interest though with the Christmas cookie all
from Sycamore.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Off to give that a shot.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
Yeah, it's good, nice and sweet. It's a brown or ale,
but it's nice and sweet. It's not like too rich
or whatever.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
But they do it good? We know if Darren gain
is still eating leftovers because the other day he was
on day twelve. Do we know if he's still at
it right now? I haven't heard it update in the
last couple of days.
Speaker 4 (02:37):
Probably so. But but you can't mention Darren Gant's name
in connection with craft beer because he is a Miller
highlighte guy.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
That is true. He will never he will never change.
All right, So let's talk about this team, Joe, how like,
how do you feel?
Speaker 2 (02:55):
But we're kind of joking around that.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
Some people want me to jump on and say, hey,
we're doing thiseople are afraid the Matt curse is going
to strike. If I say I definitely think the Panthers
are winning the division. My pause, Joe is I want
it so badly I can taste it. And I do
think when you watch the Bucks play, right, and you
see Baker Mayfield struggling through that injury, and you see
all the injuries they have and the way they played, man,
(03:18):
it's so doable. But I just don't know about the
consistency and are they ready? Are they ready to break
through just yet? As a young team. How do you
feel here four weeks out? About their chances.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
Well, like you said, I mean, the inconsistency would be
the big, you know, red light, so to speak. They've
just followed up really good wins with disappointing losses and
they got to break through that streak. And frankly that
they That has been the tenor of Bryce Young season too.
It's you know, have this awesome game at Atlanta and
(03:56):
then follow it up with, you know, a stinker a
couple of weeks play at San Francisco and just not
not you haven't seen the consistency. So but I'm with
I'm with you, Mac. This Tampa Bay team seems vulnerable.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
They they just they don't.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
And I know they're getting Mike Evans back and that
and that can make you know a lot offense just
look a heck of a lot better. But when I
watched that game Sunday, honestly, I think I was sort
of thinking that the Saints game down in New Orleans
could be a little tougher or as to the best
as this Tampa Bay game in Week sixteen. So and
(04:35):
and I'm not being facetious. I mean, I think I
think Shuck does some things outside the pocket, obviously, but
even throwing the ball where he's you know, he's he's
not to be.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
He looks good.
Speaker 4 (04:48):
I think we kind of wrote him off before the first.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Time RS, so we'll see.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
Yeah, he looks good, Joe. In this New Orleans game,
what do you think the biggest adjustment the Panthers have
to make it is to avoid the disaster of the
previous game.
Speaker 4 (05:04):
Yeah, that's a great question. Limit the explosive plays was
I was revisiting that game yesterday. Bone it was it
was like, I think he had five passes of like
twenty four yards or more, including a sixty two yard
or a fifty two yarder. I mean, and the secondary
(05:24):
has been playing betterably, Like, I don't know that they're
going to have as many you know, throws going over
the top, especially if they get.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
Back j C.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
Horn, which seems like that's going to be the case.
Trending in the right direction in that protocol. But yeah,
I've kind of forgotten that. I knew the Panthers offense
did not have explosives. They they conversely, they're twenty of
Bryce's twenty six yard throw to Team Mac was the
longest throw the only play they had over fourteen yards.
(05:56):
I mean, that was a slog one hundred and seventy
five yards of offense, so Canalis has to be better.
But but also on like I say, on the flip
side of that, uh, shuck had shuck had had a
bunch of explosive plays, which you know, you get that.
You give that supernome crowd a reason to get into it.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
They don't need much.
Speaker 4 (06:18):
They gonna they gonna have that pregame. Uh you know
my patience, So you give that, you give them a
reason to get into it. It's you know, and all
of a sudden, that's a very tough place to play.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
I know, the start very important.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
I will say this, Joe, if JC Horn plays, he's
gonna stay on two feet and coverage.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
All right.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
That was a weird game where jac was on the
ground twice on these long pass plays. Not to make excuses,
but I think I'm kind of making an excuse. What
do you so, what do you think about about the
Panthers offense and where how do you think it finishes
the season? Because I think we all saw the balance
against the Rams and it was just it's like that's
(06:58):
what I think, that's what EVE been searching. I mean,
they had the balance with the two backs, right with
Cuba being healthy now, and then they had the balance
with the passing game and the deep shots off the
run game, Like can they do that for like, let's say,
if not every week three of the final four weeks,
or is this one, Joe where we just got to
sit back and see, sit back and see if they're
(07:19):
ready to do that.
Speaker 4 (07:21):
Well, that's the word, and it's the word. The balance
is what Dave can Alice talked about yesterday. He feels
like this this team and this offense finally have an
identity and that's what and he said balance, and that
what we saw from him.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
In previous times, in previous big games. This year was.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
Kind of an overcorrection, if you will, Like when when
Rico was going well for those for that you know,
that month or so, there were times where he just
you know, they kind of ignored the passing game, certainly
the downhill the downfield passing game. And then conversely, after
Bryce's big game in Atlanta, then he's.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
Ignoring the running game out.
Speaker 4 (08:03):
In San Francisco. But you're right, I'm Blady made that
point because the rams, I mean, that was I think
that is exactly how Dave Canalis envisions this offense running
and they stay balanced the rest of it. And listen, look,
I get it. Sometimes defensive coordinators are going to you know,
stack the box and take you out of a balance attack.
(08:24):
But if he can stay keep that play sheet pretty
pretty equal. I think that's Behoo's everybody well, I mean
we really and it's I mean, we've kind of seen
a quiet team act the last couple of games. I mean,
what he's made the most of him now, like both
of his catches have been big touchdowns. Uh, but you know,
(08:46):
I think we're going to see him. You know, they're
going to try to unlock something with him here the
last month too.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
Joe, you did a great piece yesterday on Jonathan Brooks
at Theathletic dot Com that I urge people to check
out there. And it's been a while roller coaster ride
for the running back of room. The last couple of years.
They draft Brooks, they trade up, gets injured, Cuba gets
paid because he plays so well last year. Then they
bring in Rico, Cuba gets hurt, Rico goes off. Now
(09:13):
Cuba feels like he might be the man again here.
So I bring all that up to ask what's the
future of the running back spot when it comes to
not Cuba he's signed, but Rico's contract. Jonathan Brooks, how
does this play out here in the winter, in the
into the spring.
Speaker 4 (09:30):
Well, listen, it's a great question, and and you can
make it happen, right, Like, I know, if you want
to bring back Rico, he's not going to do another
one year proved deal, Like he's just a guy that
had to go through that last year. He's gonna want
to get paid and he will have a market. My
sense would be that the Panthers, well, I know they
(09:53):
want to back. They're not in the business of letting
good players walk out the door.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
If they can help it.
Speaker 4 (09:59):
I think they'll probably kind of let Rico set the market,
sort of see what's out there and and and just
decide then and there if if that, you know, if
that's gonna work under their cap and with you know,
other things they want to do. Now, you know, they
love Cuba. You guys know this. I mean the reason
(10:19):
that they extended and when they did, they they like
what you know, he brings to the locker room and
on the field and all of that. But his contract
is not that unwieldly like they could potentially get out
from under that. I'm not saying they will, but there
are options and that that will probably be part of
their negotiations, you know.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
With with with both sides.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (10:44):
But and then, and then I'm glad. I appreciate bone
you mentioned in Jonathan Brooks, but I enjoy catching up
with him. You mean he I had a kid who
my son went through this with baseball.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
Not to bring them too personal process.
Speaker 4 (10:59):
He had an injury, and I asked, John, you feel
like you're kind of a ghost when you're an injury,
and poor John and Brooks has been through this two
years in a row now, where it's like you're around
the building, you're around the program, but you're not really
part of it. And he had he's had to deal
with forget the physical stuff, which is all, you know,
(11:22):
a tough deal on its own, but sometimes we lose
sight of of just how tough a deal that is
mentally when these guys get hurt. I love I love
the fact that Thomas Davis has been in contact with him,
and I guess they worked out a couple of times
together so TV could show him some some of the
things that the exercise is the way he tweaked his routine.
(11:44):
That's all coming off second and the third one. But yeah,
you hope that that John and Brooks, you know, get
the chance to show what he.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
Can do over a healthy season.
Speaker 4 (11:54):
And yeah that I got into this and not too
deep in the weeks, but there was some some tweaks
made in the second surgery by Ella troch Out in
LA that that that that Jonson Brooks side hopes will
will be effective.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
It's a great article.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
The stuff for TD is really cool to hear, and
all these details are great. So if you're a Panther
fan and you've been kind of wondering, Hey, what's up
with Jonathan Brooks, where's he at?
Speaker 2 (12:18):
How does it look moving forward? Read this article.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
From Joe at Theathletic dot Com. Joe, the last question,
and this is a listener question before you let you
go Bone and I thought maybe the first Tampa game
would be flexed. We found out yesterday that the NFL
is not flexing to that game. They flexed to what
did they flex do Raven's Patriots instead? The Seattle game
is one of the five games that's on that TBD
(12:42):
list that could be a Saturday game. You have the
Tampa game at the end of the season. Do you
think the Panthers get Seattle on Saturday? Do you think
they get the Bucks flexed? Do you have a prediction
on that?
Speaker 4 (12:52):
My friend, I think both of those are you know,
possible and maybe even highly possible.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
The NFL loved in that Sunday Night Week eighteen game,
the winner take all scenario, and and that you know,
if you're a Panther fan, you hope it doesn't come
down to Week eighteen. But but but it certainly might.
And and so Pittsburgh and Baltimore I think play that
day too. Maybe you guys check me on that, but
(13:22):
but anyway, I've heard Seattle game as a strong possibility
for Saturday. Nothing final yet, but and then, and then
I had always been told between the two Bucks games
that the Week eighteen game made the most.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
Sense for the Sunday night football's just because winn or
take all.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
Maybe potentially that could be that could be fun.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
Although somebody pointed out to Lions played the Bears that
day too, that could be one. The Chargers play the
Broncos and the Colts play the Texans, so there's some
other Seattle, San Francisco so there is a number of
options that are on the table right now, let's say
for that week. But yeah, we're right, there was.
Speaker 4 (14:01):
I wrong with Pittsburgh does not play ball.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
No, you were right. That's the final game of the
season two. Oh yeah, you're right. Yeah, yeah, there is.
Speaker 4 (14:07):
So they got a lot of choice.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
I just Joe, I'm just glad we're in all these conversations.
You know, you know how long we you'd be writing
draft pieces, I'd be writing, You'd be reading team need pieces,
we'd be talking draft.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
This is so much freaking better, man. I love it
all right, Joe, Hey, keep up the good work. And
if anybody is a diehard Panther fastaus all the time,
but one hundred percent true. Uh true truth. If you're
not uh you know, subscribing to the Athletic for Joe's
stuff alone, when it comes to the Panthers, you're not
doing Panther fandom correctly. Theathletic dot Com Joe, thank you, brother.
(14:41):
We appreciate you.
Speaker 4 (14:43):
Appreciate it. Guys.
Speaker 2 (14:44):
That great We be good man you too. Yeah, that
Brooks piece is awesome. You got you guys, gotta checked
out on TD. Stuff is so cool. I remember when
it happened. We're like, man, TD's got to be in
touch with him, right, not only been in touch with him.
Workout tips. They did a workout together like he's basically
you know, and and Joe brought up a good point
big for that mental like Jonathan Brooks, it has there
has to be dark days right mentally for him. TD's
(15:07):
got has got to be a guy that can uplift him.
I've been here, you can do this, you know. So
that is cool to see. Is this true?
Speaker 3 (15:14):
Bone?
Speaker 2 (15:14):
I know, when we try to figure stuff out on
the air, sometimes sometimes I end up, you know, sounding like,
you know, I'm just dumb, and I'd be better off
doing it not on the fly. A Texter says that
they had heard if the Panthers win the next two
games that they are that they win the division and
I think this is coo, hold on, Panthers win the
(15:35):
next two Bucks lose to the Falcons. Yeah, this involves
the Bucks losing to the Falcons.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
If we win the next two Bucks lose to Falcons
and then obviously lose to us, that gives us a
two game lead, and I think we then would have
the divisional tiebreaker. I think so because we would beat
the Saints and they would lose to the Falcons.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
I'm on NFL Playoff Scenarios dot Com. That's not updated
for that yet, though, so refreshing that one.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
Let me look keep refreshing the standings, make sure we're
in first place. I like to keep updating people. Let
me just look at this right now, real quick, and
I can I think that is true. So we have
the same divisional record right now. If we win the
next two, they lose the next two, we will get
two divisional wins.
Speaker 2 (16:17):
We'll get two divisional losses. Yeah, that puts us two
games add in the divisional record. That puts US two
games ahead. The best they can do is tie us
in the division. But we will then have at least,
even if they beat us in the in the last game,
we will have at least a one game divisional record.
So that texter Bone is correct.
Speaker 3 (16:37):
There you go.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
You win the next two, they lose to the Falcons,
loose to us. It's our baby, now I might pick
us when we come back.
Speaker 2 (16:45):
Kellie Stalin might be on board. Kellie Staffer, the lead analyst,
REESPN Radio Mac, We're gonna get wild and focus on
the actual teams in the playoffs. This is crazy, not
Who's missing Sports Radio WFNZ.
Speaker 1 (17:17):
Sports Radio ninety seven, Benz, we got some college football
playoff news. Bone Man, You've got the details on this.
But it sounds like Lane Kiffen. He must be feeling
the holiday spirit. That must be what it is he
is sharing. Not just Charlie Weis Juniors OC but there
(17:37):
are other assistant coaches that he is sending back from
LSU to Ole Miss for the playoff.
Speaker 2 (17:43):
Is that true? He sent four coaches backaching wide receiver coach.
I don't think Juice got said back yet. Uh Layne
has sent so many back that he may send himself
back here under the scouts in disguise. You can wear
that Bobby Valentine mustache and try to make back. It's
a different coat. He's trying to help out his guy.
People think it says, though, that's his guy, so he's
trying to help them out. Yeah, I'm glad to see
(18:03):
that because it ended so ugly. I'm glad to see
they're working something like that out. You did bring up
a valid point during the break. Is part of Lane's
thinking that, Hey, it's a nice thing to do, but
the longer those guys spend with those players, I could
probably get more of them through the portal. Second, he's
probably thinking they've all blocked my phone number now the
former players, so this is my end.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
But anyway, so that's kind of cool. That's that's good
for Ole Miss. As if Old Miss Drawl wasn't good
enough getting a Tulane team that they beat by five tonnies,
they get a little bit of good news in that too.
Let's talk about the playoff brackets. But and we have
spent the last two days talking about Notre Dame not
being there and how did Alabama get there? And I'm
not saying we might not ask a question here, but
(18:47):
we definitely need to spend some time with ESPN Radio's
top college football game analyst, Kelly Staffer, talking about the
bracket and some of the matchups too. Kelly Staffer joins
us here to talk CFP on the Mac and Bone Show. Kelly,
thank you for coming on, man. How you doing.
Speaker 5 (19:04):
I'm doing well and you guys are hilarious. We cannot
talk about college football without getting a little lane kipping
in there.
Speaker 3 (19:14):
That's for darned yea oh, I.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
Figured you'd appreciate that, Hey, we hadn't heard that. It's
been like five hours since I heard something about.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
Last You said that, nice and clear, good promo for
us to run there. We can use say we're funny,
it's gonna run forever. We can use that. All right,
So here's what we'll do.
Speaker 1 (19:29):
I'll ask you one question about the fallout, but I
do want to get your thoughts on some of the
matchups down the road. But let's just start with the fallout, like,
did you have a big problem with the committee leaving
Notre Day leaving Notre Dame out? And if so, who
was the team that shouldn't have been in in your opinion?
Speaker 5 (19:48):
Yeah, and you guys probably were doing something other than
listening to us Saturday night in the ACC Championship game. However,
we absolutely nailed it in terms of what was going
to happen. In fact, my words were, I will make
(20:09):
it easy on the committee. They can go to bed,
not get up early, because this is what's going to happen.
And to me, you could see it coming from a
mile away that my last words before we went out
the air is Notre Dame is in trouble. And it
just seemed so simple to me that Duke had screwed
(20:34):
the entire thing up just by just by being there
and this convoluted tie breaking system, and someone may have
lost their job over that whole thing in the ACC office,
I'm not sure. And so to me it was very simple.
(20:57):
I don't if there was a way on God's green
earth that an ACC team was going to be in
the CFP, it was going to happen. And so I
think there were some messages sent the last few weeks
in the CFP ranking show, which, by the way, they
need to do away with and I don't know that
by ESPN bosses will appreciate me saying that, but so,
(21:24):
you know, they were kind of inching Miami closer to
Notre Dame, and there was this thought that, oh, and
they're next to each other, that's when it actually matters
that they did play on the field. And so I
think the first ranking, Notre Dame was maybe ten and
Miami was like eighteen, and then all of a sudden
(21:48):
they started they started to close that gap and Miami
started to reel a man or whatever happened. And so
to me, that was that was pretty selfiic planatory. You
now were going to have two G five schools in
or I think they call it G six now non
power four. However, we say that these days you're going
(22:11):
to have two of those in and now BYU is
going to fall off the edge of the earth because
they got trucked by Texas Tech for the second time.
So you could see that coming. And the other lynchpin
in there was the SEC rules this thing, and their
(22:34):
sidekick is the Big ten. I mean, we don't really
have to argue with that anymore. That's the way it works.
So when you go to the SEC championship game like
Alabama did, you could throw out your junior varsity for
that game and you're still not falling out of the CFP.
That would be a really bad look if the SEC
(22:58):
Championship game Team PARTI did not get to the CFP
when they were in it before the game. So all
of those things together meant Notre Dame was in trouble
and so yes, come come the rankings. You could you
could see Notre Dame and Miami now were going to
be theoretically compared to one another. Why they weren't before.
(23:21):
I don't understand the process, even though I've gone through that,
I've gone through that process before the mock ranking committee,
and I you know, it's it's interesting how all that works.
But anyway, when they got compared, I mean, how can
you not say, well, this team beat that team, So
(23:41):
why do we have to discuss this any longer? And
that's where we ended up. So that's where we are.
And I really had zero problem with that, to tell.
Speaker 2 (23:49):
You the truth, Kelly, I can't believe this is my
next question. I wanted to ask you about number one
seed Indiana. I never thought I'd say that outside of
a Bob Knight nt DOAA tournament team back Inday. But
what do you think of the job that Signetti's done?
Are there even any words to really put in Can
you even put into words the job he's done to make
Indiana at least a power right now?
Speaker 3 (24:13):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (24:13):
It's Signetti is is really good for college football because
he's kind of the poster child for everything that's going
on in college football right now. So he can take
a head job after really paying his dues elsewhere, he
(24:36):
can take a P four head job and all of
what he's been working on behind closed doors and.
Speaker 4 (24:45):
All of that.
Speaker 5 (24:45):
And he was last job JMU by the way, But
you not only can take the job, but you can
take your players with you these days, which is exactly
what he did. You know, the JMU team that's in
the College Football Playoff are like the other guys because
(25:06):
the first round of JMU guys went with Signetti to Indiana. So,
you know, you kind of prove your system in the
laboratory and then you get a shot and you have
in many ways perfected what works. He's old school kind
(25:28):
of in every way, although obviously he knows how to
use the Google. We know that, and so you know,
he just plays football the way that football is meant
to be played. But then you go out and get
the right guys. You can get free agents now, so
you get Fernando Mendoza and then you bring like eighty
(25:51):
seven JMU guys with you that already know your system.
So in every one of the position groups you either
have well you have guys, you know, the head of
all those position groups are guys that already know your systems,
so they're teaching it to the you know, to the
other guys in the room. It's a beautiful way to
(26:12):
build a team, but you have to do it right.
Speaker 3 (26:15):
You know.
Speaker 5 (26:15):
The NFL has the salary cap of free agency as well.
But some teams just don't do it well. But he
does it well and he coaches well. The thing that
I saw with this team that I didn't see last year.
We had Iowa earlier in the year. So I'm watching
Iowa's tape and I'm watching Iowa Indiana because I'm also
(26:41):
watching Oregon Indiana, and I'm like, Okay, this is different
than they were a year ago. We had Indiana go
to Ohio State a year ago and Indiana couldn't defend
you and I. But all of a sudden, the guys
are real on the defensive side and they could they
(27:03):
could do it on the offensive sete already, but they
couldn't stop you know, the the most talented teams. And
that's different this year. And so that's that's what you're seeing.
Speaker 3 (27:15):
That's the result big time.
Speaker 1 (27:16):
You saw it against the buck Eyes. What what a
defensive performance, Kelly. We we talked about the a c
C getting one team getting squeezing in Miami. They've got
a fun match up on that noon noon a week
from Saturday against Texas A and M What's what's your
kind of what's your thoughts on that matchup. It feels
(27:36):
like it feels like a game that feels toss up
y like Miami. Feels like a game Miami can go
get that, you know, acc playoff win. What do you think?
Speaker 5 (27:45):
Yeah, I think you're right and that's our game. We'll
we'll be on that that game. So that's that's nice.
If you would have called me later this afternoon, I
had a better answer for you because I haven't really
had a chance to get into it. I had a
NFL game this weekend, but no, I mean, I know
the teams Miami a little less because we didn't have
(28:06):
them because they've kind of fallen off the radar a
little bit. But we've had A and m a couple
of different times. We had their their comeback against South
Carolina of all things, down thirty what was at thirty
to nothing at halftime and they win thirty one zero thirty.
That was crazy. I think it's a really good matchup.
I think the line on that is maybe what is
(28:30):
it three and a half at home or something? And
m The thing about Miami and what you saw when
Miami played that Notre Dame team that you guys brought
up is Miami is really good. On the line of scrimmage,
and Miami can bend the edges on defense with both
their defensive ends. And I think when you're good on
(28:53):
the line of scrimmage, you have a chance if your
skilled players, you know, stay out of harm's way. We
know Beck hadn't made a habit of doing that, so
I think that's really going to be the game. You
can get to Texas A and m a little bit.
But when you're good on the line of scrimmage, like
(29:13):
Miami is to me, you're a playoff team. And when
Beck is right, I think Beck can you know, Beck
can do his job as well, So I think that
line is probably good. You're on the road, it's not
a night game at at Kyle Field, so that's that's
a win for Miami. All of those things are I
(29:35):
think are working in Miami's favor. But I having said
all of that, I would not be surprised if this
game goes down to the wire, and I would not
be surprised if Miami has has a chance to win
it in the end.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
Yeah, that's gonna be a fun one.
Speaker 1 (29:48):
Yeah, I wouldn't If Marcel Reid did his thing and
Concepcion went off I wouldn't be shocked either.
Speaker 2 (29:55):
That feels like a fun game.
Speaker 1 (29:57):
You you got lucky, Kelly, you didn't get one of
the games with a group of That's good that you
talk about draws this time.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
That's a good draw for you. Brother.
Speaker 5 (30:04):
Yeah, that was not luck. That was that was intentional.
Trust me.
Speaker 2 (30:08):
OK. Good, that's good. Hey, Kelly, Philip Rivers is working
out for the Colts these couple of days. If the
Panthers need a QB down this road, your arm, you're
still going to go here?
Speaker 5 (30:19):
Well, I've been I've been kind of dropping that hint
a little bit lately. And a friend of mine texted
me last night and said, hey, Philip Rivers is being
worked out, and I'm like, you know, I might be
the first one to come back in my late fifties
with two artificial hips and see if I could give
it a go. Now, I would have to have some rules,
some parameters up front. A. I don't leave the pocket
(30:42):
at B, I don't get hit, but I can. I
could throw it. I'm telling you I could throw it,
and I could. I know more about the game now
than I did when I played it, so but no,
that's not gonna happen, and I don't think it's gonna happen.
And that's not gonna happen with Philip either very long.
Speaker 3 (30:58):
I don't think that's crazy.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
Our former Panther though, right in the off season in
ninety six. That's on your bio here, Yeah it is.
Speaker 5 (31:04):
You know what happened in that is that was my
last stop ever in the league and we were the
first team to open that new stadium.
Speaker 3 (31:14):
Oh wow.
Speaker 5 (31:14):
So when I'm there in Charlotte to the game, do
the game like I did on Saturday night. We you know,
we walk in by those big panthers, and I have
a picture with my only child at the time, my
oldest daughter, who you know, life goes by and she
just got married this past January.
Speaker 3 (31:35):
I mean June.
Speaker 5 (31:37):
Yeah, we walk right by those panthers and I have
a picture with me holding her beside the Panther when
we open the season there.
Speaker 3 (31:44):
So yeah, that's crazy, but it was a good time.
Speaker 1 (31:47):
That's sweet, all right, brother, Hey, we had a good
time talking to you man.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
Have fun with that.
Speaker 1 (31:51):
Miami Texas A and M Game ESPN Radio noon a
week from Saturday. Thanks for joining us. Appreciate you, Kelly.
Speaker 5 (32:00):
All Right, remember you guys are hilarious, so don't forget
that part.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
Well, thank you. That is kind of affirmation we need
my heart.
Speaker 3 (32:07):
Man.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
I feel right.
Speaker 5 (32:08):
Guys, have a good day.
Speaker 3 (32:10):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (32:10):
That is Kenny called funny in twenty years. Dude, what
an hour for our egos. He's a very very nice guys.
Such a nice dude man. Joe and I forgot about
the panther that I didn't I didn't realize about that.
They had a little stint here. Joe person said Bone
that two of your questions were great questions and said
I made a great point. Kelly Staffer called us hilarious.
(32:32):
What a boost for the damn ego? This hour was
we getting let go today? The staffer in person Joe,
we just don't know it yet. It's hilarious.
Speaker 1 (32:41):
Y Philip rivers, what I guess the intel coming out
of Indy is at forty four years of age, he
had a tryout. Of course, Daniel Jones is out for
the season and their backup Riley Leonard is hurt. They
don't know if he can go at forty four. The
word is he had a good workout. He's thrown it well,
he's stayed in shape. They said, is he what he?
Speaker 6 (32:59):
The first happens when they pressure them, though, That's what
I need to know when they hit them first grandfather,
that grandkids, JJ, I'm kidd of JJ.
Speaker 2 (33:11):
I'm kidd baby. This is gonna hurt the JJ on
the age list though, Timmy kalay Is Campbell battling right
in merceides Lewis that is true. That is true. Man,
we come back to wrap up sports radio.
Speaker 5 (33:32):
There seems to be some avoidance going on because you
just don't want to talk about what the rat in
the room.
Speaker 7 (33:41):
Well, with Alabama, I think it's the elephant in the room.
I know it's all. That's what I'm saying. I told
you I did say something I'm not gonna lie. I
was in New York. I got really excited. I may
or may not have had it one or two glasses
this year before we visited, and I did say that
I was going to down buttonnecket actually, and I'm just
(34:02):
gonna run around the square now, listen. That is just
a Southern phrase about things we said. We say things
like that we don't mean it was.
Speaker 5 (34:11):
Was it concerning to you that that that.
Speaker 3 (34:16):
Picture of you like when everywhere I mean it became
a big, big deal.
Speaker 7 (34:22):
Honey. My children are so mortified about me that they
are literally crawling under like in a hole right now.
Speaker 2 (34:30):
And I mean it's they're concerned that their mother is going.
Speaker 7 (34:33):
To run around the square because they don't they think
that I'm that nuts. I'm not run Lord Oxford has
been through enough, we have been traumatized. Last thing they
need to do is see this big butt rolling around
the square.
Speaker 2 (34:46):
All right, there's celebrity chef Elizabeth High School. Oh miss oh.
While I'm talking to Paul fie Bob about her uh
insinuation a couple of weeks ago, that Paul that uh
Lane Kiffin will not leave all missed. If he did,
she'd get by naked and turns out now Paul followed
up on that, that's the New York butcher Shop. Go
to the day. Check him on Instagram frisky man and
(35:07):
why Butcher Wine Bar on Instagram.
Speaker 1 (35:09):
Paul, you frisky man. He had to though his listeners.
It was for the listeners in the viewers bone. He
didn't want to see that, you know what I mean.
He was easy.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
He just wanted to get to ask that question on
behalf of his viewers. I'm sure, yes, Hey, we want
to find bumb. She don't They're gonna call her, though
she claimed that it was a rather large bumb is
what she was claiming there, all right, anyway, it's time
for the wrap up here as we put the finishing
touches on this show. Thank you to go out to
(35:40):
Joe Person for joining us on the show today, Kelly
Stoffer from ESPN Radio, and Adam gold our man Goldie
Goldie picking the Panthers to make the playoffs. How about
that baby, he likes us, he really likes us. I
don't need you go in full high school on us.
Still get naked? Should I get naked somewhere? If the
Panthers make the playoff at your own house, run right
(36:01):
by sirwine town Bro. If we clinch, that scenario is
on like a pot of neck bones too.
Speaker 1 (36:06):
I'm so fired up. I did not realize that until
that texter sent that in. We beat the Saints, they
lose to the Falcons. Thursday, we beat the Saints and
then we beat them at the bank. We're clinching, and
we're having a damn clinch party.
Speaker 2 (36:19):
That involves the bus into the Falcons though, So that's
gonna be a problem.
Speaker 1 (36:23):
You think that's is that the snag in the plan
that feels like the least.
Speaker 2 (36:27):
Likely outcome of the plan. Because I believe the Saints
are playing hard. It feels like the Falcons are in
quick mode. They quit like mag who's twing? I just
quit recently, like Notre Dame and the Bulls. By the way,
ten teams, ten teams turned down bowls. Some were eligible,
some were the ones that would have been extras. But
ten teams aren't going to bowl game.
Speaker 1 (36:48):
But that's yeah, it's and that's why Rick News basically
says you're gonna eventually have to end the bowl games.
You're gonna have to He says, make the bowl games
the start of the season. I'm not gonna say the
Falcons are quitting bone, but when they when they break
the huddle, they do chant one.
Speaker 2 (37:00):
Two three, can't coon?
Speaker 3 (37:01):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (37:02):
Yes, they definitely do to use it old Shaquille O'Neal
inside the NBA joke there, we'll see, we'll see what happens.
But you're saying there's a chance there's a chance of
clinching at the Bank against Tampa.
Speaker 2 (37:17):
Matt in Greensboro.
Speaker 1 (37:18):
W fin Z FanDuel text line says that there is
an outside chance that we get the number one seed
if we went out and I looked it up on
the athletics playoff simulator bone and yes, it's less than
one percent chance, but we do have we have a
point something percent chance of the number one seed. Still bony,
how about they? How about they just beating to Warwick?
Speaker 2 (37:41):
You ain't in all this? No? All right, let's see.
Speaker 1 (37:45):
We also had a text her Bones send us a
link to its tweet explaining how we can host the
NFC title game?
Speaker 2 (37:54):
Are you ready for that yet?
Speaker 4 (37:55):
Or no?
Speaker 3 (37:58):
Right now?
Speaker 2 (37:58):
If Dave Canal has heard this talking, be very upset
that people will blame us if we bring it up.
That's true.
Speaker 1 (38:03):
We shouldn't be talking about this stuff all right? Tonight
you got to Jimmy V Classic in New York City.
How about this spotlight game for the Clemson basketball team
Clemson against aj DEBANSA and b YU tonight, Florida and
Yukon in the nightcap. Fitty wants to make and wants
everybody h to come over to his house for a
(38:23):
n b A League's Cup quarter final doubleheader viewing party tonight.
He's very excited about that tonight first NBA game of
the year.
Speaker 3 (38:32):
He's watched.
Speaker 2 (38:34):
No, remember he watched the first Hornets game and then
quit on the team. How was that the first Hornets
game you were in? After that one? When did you
quit on the Hornets game two? What did Labella quit?
Man got hurt?
Speaker 3 (38:50):
Stop? All right?
Speaker 2 (38:51):
Seven games into the season, I checked out. I think
it is actually all right. Let's read some of these
texts and see what we have here. Bone on the
WF and Z fan this guy saying you got a
better chance of clenching your glutes. Get rid of that.
Cant get that out of here, sir, Get that out
of here. I wish Fitty would have done that today.
Speaker 3 (39:13):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (39:14):
I don't know what you ate today. But there's about
ten times on mapping thick Flair has let waiting on
Notre Dame and Pete Bavaqua tell that whiny be to
join a conference. I'll pass it along there, thick Flare,
I will pass that along. This textter says it was
nice having Matt. This is Kevin, nice having Mac on
the Notre Dame bandwagon over the last few months. All
(39:35):
good things must come to an end. Oh yeah, I'm angry.
I'm like will BN, I hate your bored than ever
after this whiny back, seeing some of the college basketball
games today, and who teams are playing? Cow Cow's playing
Dominican College, Omaha is playing don Omaha, when Dion Wood's
playing Culver Stockton, Temple's playing Georgie in Court. And how
(39:56):
about this one here, Furman's playing something called Bob Jones.
Is it that the restaurant there Bob Joe Breakfast Place?
Bob joas Bob Evans. Who's he playing? Either are Allway Division?
Holy Cross is playing Regis Philbin? Who are these schools?
Speaker 1 (40:13):
I'm ready for conference playing these schools to disappear into
their own world. All right, let me read a couple
of more text before you get out of here. Max,
He says, I don't know about Merrigan the Pro Bowl,
but I could in the Pro Bowl game. But I
could see him in the Low Blow game. Well played, sar,
maybe both, maybe he ends up in both. Ishmael says,
every time I hear that panting sound effect, I think
(40:35):
Fitny sees someone walk by the.
Speaker 2 (40:37):
Window with snack food in hand. Ha ha. Let's see
what else we have going on here?
Speaker 1 (40:43):
So this is from formal Timothy, surprising that Mac didn't
recognize Goldie sarcasm been there for years. I've been saying
Mac is my favorite radio host, and he hasn't figured
it out yet.
Speaker 2 (40:54):
All right, how dare you formal Timothy? He threw up
is playing Taco Falls tonight? This is not a former
player every now to falls. Yeah, he sounds like a
restaurant to co a fall. These aren't real, These aren't
real schools.
Speaker 1 (41:06):
We've got a texture here bone that says, uh, Philip
can definitely still throw it. Well, sincerely, missus Rivers working
on kids seventy eight. I'm told is he Uh, he's
the first grandfather in the leegele Bron's gonna say, oh,
this is fun. I'll wait till we retired to abad.
Don't tempt him, don't challenge him. Man, somebody says, could
you imagine a world where we're resting starters at the
(41:29):
end of the regular season?
Speaker 2 (41:30):
Oh my god, I want to bathe in that. I
want to bathing starters being rested. I'm usually resting my
eyes by week eighteen.
Speaker 1 (41:38):
All Right, we're out of here, y'all. We gotta let
Kylin get on the mic. Charlotte Sports Today is coming up.
Every good everybody. Good work out of the bone man,
good work out of the fit dog.
Speaker 2 (41:47):
Colin Huger coming up next. Everybody, enjoy it. And my
marshmallows are burning you. Hey, now, Popeye, the sailorman said,
I am what I am, Notre dame. He is what
they is.
