Speaker 1 (00:09):
Welcome back, everybody back in Boat Show Live from Panther
Camp Sports Radio ninety two seven w f n Z.
This next guest, and I'm not just saying it because
he's here, has been one of the guys that is
new to the team that we've been saying, Man, we
can't wait to see him do his thing because of
the way he plays. We're talking about Trayvon may Rig.
Did I get a crap?
Speaker 2 (00:30):
I got it? Got it? Got it right? I figured
I figured.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
The way he hints I might, I might want to
get it right. I'm over twelve on.
Speaker 4 (00:39):
Try that's perfect. Yeah, yeah, oh.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
Man, So you you seem like one of these guys.
Now I just met you, so maybe I shouldn't be
jumped to conclusions, but you just seem like one of
these guys that off the field the way you act,
and there's a lot of you guys around here like that,
and on the field is completely different. You turn it on,
like do you have to try to turn that wild
man on?
Speaker 5 (01:03):
It's yeah, it's really just when you step into you know,
in the white lines, it's it's just a different animal.
You know, it's a game you've been playing since you
were young. That's always been a physical, aggressive game. So yeah,
on the field, that's that's kind of my mentality. And
then you know when you when I'm off the field,
I'm a cool, you know, chill, calm, collected kind of guy.
But yeah, you know when I said, when I get
(01:23):
in between the lines at skill time, so.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
You and I have a lot in common.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
We're cool and calm away from the field, and we
got you got tattoos, We've.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Gone some modeling, you know, we're twins.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
Yeah, we're basically one of the You had a lot
of options in free agency. Why why the Panthers? Why
the city is Charlotte?
Speaker 5 (01:41):
Man, I just I wanted to try something new, you know,
start building something in an organization. And then when I
talked to you know, the coaches, you know, they their
vision where they saw me at it just was really
interesting to me. Kind of drew me, you know, closer
to them. And then you know, the guys that were
on the de you know, I would love to think,
(02:02):
you know, I was enjoin you know, my time with them.
So yeah, that was kind of what drew me to
the Panthers.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
The contract offered didn't hurt either.
Speaker 4 (02:11):
That that was always you know that's always helpful.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
So last year, and I want to talk to you
about this last year. You know, it seems like a
lot of analyst, a lot of writers believe you had
your best season, and they believe it's because your role changed.
They move you up, you know, in the box, more
up against the run, more blitched you more. Is that
the case and are you finding that that's the way
(02:36):
you're going to be used a lot here?
Speaker 3 (02:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (02:38):
Last year, I just I think it was just how
comfortable I felt with the scheme and you know, my
play style and then just you know, carrying that out
throughout the season, and then when I got here, you know,
that's kind of the same thing I'm trying to implement.
You know that they kind of had me a little closer,
you know, playing kind of everywhere, and you know, that's
that's one thing I'll always try to implement on my game.
(02:58):
It's just the physical nature of the game.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
So yeah, how much pride do you take envy in
that chess piece the guy where the offense may not
know where you're coming from.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
I love it, man, It's fun. It's it's fun too.
Speaker 5 (03:10):
Like you said, you know, the office has no clue
so you know, being able to show things and then
pop out or do something else. It's always fun to
catch the off slipping. So it's it's it's gonna be
fun for me.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Even in the nickel. We see you in that nickelback spot.
You know, I guess that big nickel spot is kind
of yours where shawls in there when it's you know,
smaller nickel. Yeah, whatever, where we're supposed to call it.
Trayvon mayrig with us of your Carolina Panthers.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Merrick already message Kang too. I never want to call him.
I never want to call a teammate out wait to
catch me.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
Don't wait to catch me, man, all right, So now
I gotta I gotta get back to it again.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
He was so proud the first time. He said, I know, dang,
I'm just gonna call him Travon pell him pro bowler
this year. I would love that. I would love that.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
So what do you think about this defense that you
just joined. You're in your first camp with them, but
you spent the off season here and stuff like that.
It's a lot of new names, a lot of new faces,
and it needed to be quite frankly, with the way
last season went how's everything jelling. Is this something that's
gonna take time or do you feel like that you
feel like by week one you can have be cohesive.
Speaker 4 (04:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (04:17):
No, it's been super fun to come out here with
the guys. Man, just learning each of them, you know,
seeing their play style, seeing their hunger. I mean, that's
that's what you want when you come out on the field.
And so, you know, I like where we're headed. You know,
we still have work to do, but as long as
we keep our head down and keep working, man, we
should be ready.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
And I'm excited to see what we can do.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
So you're you're a fascinating guy off the field. We
mentioned the modeling stuff you've done before. Is it the reptiles,
Is it.
Speaker 5 (04:42):
Snakes, reptile? Yeah, anything, snakes, lizards, turtles.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
Turtles I'm good with. And then you also played the guitar.
Speaker 4 (04:52):
Right, Yeah, I do. Yeah, that's that's kind of the
big one for me.
Speaker 5 (04:54):
Everything basically, Yeah, just trying, you know, trying to find
hobbies off the able to do and learn and you know,
and keep my brain working.
Speaker 4 (05:02):
So that's that's kind of what I've been doing.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Now I've seen some of the stuff with the quotes
from you about guitar and the music you like, and
I think it's similar to me. You've mentioned like Nirvana,
Red Hot, Chili Pepper's Metallic, even Weezer. Yeah, so you're
into like you're young this just in you're slightly younger
than me. Yeah, so like you're into stuff like nineties Rocket.
(05:26):
How'd you get into that?
Speaker 4 (05:27):
Honestly? Man, it's kind of a multitude of things.
Speaker 5 (05:31):
I'd say, like where I went to high school, my coaches,
we'd play that on the on the on the speakers,
you know, every practice, you know, music like that, alternative
old school rock. And then growing up, I had a
guitar Hero and so I'd be on Guitar Hero twenty
four to seven just learning the music and then you know,
fall in love with the you know, the songs and
some of the bands. So that's kind of how it
(05:53):
started out. Jam Little Pearl Jam, Yeah, I like, yeah, yeah,
Pearl Jam's cool, right, The Killers, Yeah, when we were young,
I'm learning that one on the guitar right now.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
That's that's a fun one. But yeah, all those.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
Guys, did you go to the Metallica show here?
Speaker 4 (06:09):
I wasn't able to.
Speaker 5 (06:10):
I told JJ I was actually moving up to my house,
moving into my house, so I had to get some
stuff set up, have family here.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
So feels a little crazy.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
Yeah, every every player has mentioned j at some point.
He's working his way around and he's that guy. He's
a popular guy around.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
You have an interest in sports broadcasting.
Speaker 5 (06:30):
I read that right, Yeah, I mean yeah, you know,
growing up, you know, after football, I've always just been
open to staying around sports, whether i'd be sports broadcasting
or or coaching, you know, something like that, just to
stay in sports and you know, have fun with that.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
So all right, so you are. It's at the safety spot.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
Nick Scott's a fellow veteran, but You've got a couple
of exciting young bucks in that safety corps And I
almost feel like, are you now one of the old dudes?
Are you now mentor role?
Speaker 5 (06:58):
I mean yeah, I think so. People are calling me
a little bit of a veteran. I'm still like, man,
I still feel so fresh into this thing.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
But I guess, so, what do you think of Richardson
and Ransom?
Speaker 4 (07:08):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Like, what are there? What are their strong points?
Speaker 4 (07:10):
Yeah? Man, what do you think they're fun to watch? Man?
Speaker 5 (07:12):
Like I said about all these guys, they come to work,
ready to work, hungry, ready to get better. And just
both of their play styles. Man, they're they're physical. You know,
they can cover. They can pretty much do everything that
the coaches are asking them to do. So, yeah, two
young guys with me, and it's fun to be around them. Man,
it's fun to pick the brain, you know, give them
some advice if I have any or or vice versa.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
So it's been fun.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
You expected the Charlotte nightlife to be like Vegas.
Speaker 5 (07:39):
Or No, I don't know. I told you when I
for the got here. It's a little slower, but uh,
you know, I you know, I'm not that much of
a go out kind of guy, like I told you earlier.
Speaker 4 (07:49):
I'm chill, stay of myself.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
You play the guitar a little bit on Pythons. Yeah,
I watch you play guitar.
Speaker 4 (07:56):
Right exactly got my audience.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
What do you think you're going against this offense every day?
What strikes you when you play against this offense? Like, man,
what do you take note of?
Speaker 4 (08:07):
They're getting better every day?
Speaker 5 (08:08):
I think, you know, to come out here and practice
with them every day, we see, you know, improvements from
each side. You know, the offense may win one day
and then the defense will come out and win that day.
So you just see each side of the ball getting
better and better, and you know that's all you can
ask for as well. As long as we can keep
doing that will be on the right track.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
So is this camp like feistier than the camps you're
used to? It seems, at least by the Panther camp standards,
it seems more physical and like feist it is.
Speaker 5 (08:37):
Yeah, And that's that's one thing, especially the defense we're
trying to you know, establish, is just the physical nature
of the game just you can't forget about it. So
any chance or any opportunity we have to show that
and display that on the film.
Speaker 4 (08:49):
Then we're trying to do that.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
We like hearing that.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
We want y'all to go at it against each other,
all right, man, Well, hey, appreciate you joining us and
best of luck here at Carolina.
Speaker 4 (08:58):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
Man.
Speaker 4 (08:58):
I appreciate y'all having me.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
That is Trayvon Morigg joining us or Marriy.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
We just went over that with him, Mary like mayor IgG,
Mary like just think of it as like m A
R e Ig Okay, Mary Brake, I got it all right.
His name is marrick me next egg. Let's come back
to me next segment and see if I have it.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
But yeah, there's been multiple articles written about him. The
writers that cover the team here locally have really gotten
a kick out of hearing about and we did too
about hearing about all those interests. He has the reptile
collection the rock music. That really hit me when I
saw that this young dude in his twenties is into
this old man rock from the nineties.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
I kind of like that.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
Not many folks, not many folks in the in their
twenties are into my unk music. So I kind of
like that as there's a there's an interesting dude.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
There's the theme here with these players and Dan Morgan
and what he gravitates towards, and you think about it, it
makes sense. They're all rather kind of chill off the
air like Ransom and merrig As safeties were kind of similar. Right,
They're right, they're just regular dudes, but they go on
the field like this. Yeah, they're all kind of chill
right there. You don't really wouldn't know they're football players
(10:11):
if you didn't know Derek Brown, obviously, but you you
wouldn't know some of these guys. But Dan Morgan was
also kind of like that, wasn't he think about Dan
Morgan on the field? Chill, kind of quiet but a savage,
but a savage on the field. So you kind of
see what what he's liking in his players. Yes, there's
a certain guy that he likes. Yeah, it's it's like
he's bringing in guys that are Robert Hunts like that.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
Yeah, good teammates, but they get ikey too, like you
know what I mean. His play style is Mueller, just
like Hunts, and you wouldn't know it from talking to.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
These Bobby Brown they're all like that today.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
Bobby Brown too, And he was especially a beast on
Friday Night man getting after the quarterback with five pressures and.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
Getting in the backfield in the running game. So that
was an encouraging debut for him. But yeah, so when.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
You're evaluating draft prospects in the future, looking at their
personalities as much as you can, might be thing also
because that's mattering to Damn Morgan.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
He's looking for I call him Incredible Hawks, like the
old Incredible Hawk show. Bruce Banner is just a normal guy, doctor,
doctor Bruce Banner, and then all of a sudden when
he starts haulking up, turning green and the muscles pop
out right and the shirt rips all of a sudden.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
He's a maniac.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
These are guys that are just physical, you know, they
feel like just kind of regular dudes. Good teammates too,
I think that's part of it. Good teammates aren't gonna uh,
you know, cause too much of a problem. But they are
freaking dogs on the field.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
Look get you and that gets you in your knowledge,
a little little hawk knowledge. You like that superhero knowledge
Mac knowing Bruce Buffer.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
I thought I didn't know Bruce Buffer.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
How about that your UFC deal though, no pay per
views anymore.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
Everything's gonna be on paramount. That's major for them.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
That is huge for them, and that's very cool. I
might not have to get dabbled again because you know,
I wasn't getting no damn pay per views. You can
bet on it, and you can bet on it too. Anyway.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
Well, you think of my incredible reference fit. You didn't
know I had that impress It was a.
Speaker 6 (12:02):
Really good strong pool by you can you tell me
who Spider Man is Peter Parker iron Man to Oh
that's a good pool, that's a job, Bone, give me
some more Thor.
Speaker 2 (12:15):
Noah's yindergarten?
Speaker 1 (12:17):
Where's store from? Early Holland? Okay, you don't like soccer jokes,
do you? Premier League starting up fit dog? I know
it's time, baby. This is when you watched it before football.
Usually watched like one first the first three weeks. Yeah,
all right, anyway, let's uh, let's chill name Thor.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Yeah, that's a trick. He tried to trick us.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
I had no idea, you dirty s o B. Won't
you go overheat in the shower and throw up on yourself?
Speaker 2 (12:49):
I probably.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
You, please, er act, I care about you. Please turn
that shower down a little cooler.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
Please, I'll try it to you next time. To it
for me.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
Alright, let's when we come back, bone, man, let's go
from one hard hitting member of the defense to another.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
Multiple Texters Bone.
Speaker 1 (13:10):
When we played clips of our next guest interview with Nishiraf,
they said the same thing about him. Man, he sounds
like Jamis Winston. We are gonna judge for ourselves. Panthers
second year linebacker Trevin Wallace joins us.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
Next.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
We are live from the Homer Hideaway. We're right here
at the suite in Bank of America Stadium. We're a
Panthers camp on Sports Radio ninety two seven WFNZ. Rub
the back everybody, It's back in Bone live from Panther
(13:48):
training camp. And our next guest is someone that we
are hoping it's a breakout season this season, and I
think there's a good chance that's the case. Trevin Wallace,
linebacker for your Carolina Panthers, Travin.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
What's up? Man?
Speaker 7 (14:02):
Thanks for joining us, Man, nothing, but I'm glad for
he little being on here for y'all, y'all having me.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
Man, do you kind of feel your eyes kind of
lit up when I said a lot of people think
it could be a breakout season.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
You're in this starting role now.
Speaker 1 (14:15):
Heck, last year you got in the starting role probably
before you thought you would because the circumstances.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
But are you kind of.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
Looking at this where you feel comfortable enough where you're
kind of thinking I might be able to really play
my best ball right now?
Speaker 2 (14:27):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (14:27):
In fact, you know, the confident level was there, you
know obviously. You know last year I hated it, but
you know, Shaq got hurt, so I got thrust into
the fire, you know, and the companiess went there. But
you know, over the time and time I played, and obviously,
you know, having Josie beside me and someone beside me
that believed in me, you know, obviously about more confidence
and comfidence is coming on. And then know everybody seen
the news when Josie left us, like okay, you good treving,
(14:49):
you got it. And then obviously seeing that the coaches
trust me, you know, the GM Dan trust me, even
head coach Canals trust me.
Speaker 4 (14:56):
So the confidence is there.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
That's a tough thing about sports, right, get an opportunity.
But your guy Josie Jewel goes through something pretty rough.
What was that experience like to watch him go through that?
But yet you now benefit from that also, So it's
a catch twenty two a little bit right.
Speaker 7 (15:11):
Yeah, you know I hate it from him, but you know,
I feel like he made the best decision for himself,
you know, due to no health issues all. They don't
want to get better for himself. Like I say, like
I tell people, football don't last longer than you know,
like foot but don't last long. So you know, you
want to have the healthy mindset of going or if
football and having that time spending your kids so I
feel like he made the right decision.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
Do you when you were watching what the team was
doing in the off season and you kept signing big dudes,
so then you drafted Cam Jackson. But like this, this
has got to make you feel good. Did you get
a smile on your face every time another big dude
was at it?
Speaker 2 (15:44):
Because it's looking like they've got guys this year.
Speaker 3 (15:46):
They get Derrick Brown back too, that can keep those
blockers off you, right, Like those guys are the linebacker's
best friend.
Speaker 7 (15:52):
Right, Yeah, obviously, you know it was a little smile there,
you know, even like I test those like what like
I say last week, and I said, it feels good
having a healthy d line in front of you, because
you know I was last year there was a lot
of injuries going on, you know, so it just feels
real good because sometimes when I'm playing, like dang, I'm
really free, so now I can really run and showcase
my ability.
Speaker 3 (16:12):
You need to know that JJ Jansen's a guest on
our show every week, and by every week, I mean
all year round, Like it's not just during the season,
like he's trying to take our jobs.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
Trevin.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
So, when you were on Car Talk last week making
age jokes with them. We suit you for that, my friend,
we we we what's your notes here?
Speaker 7 (16:31):
Some point that was told yeah, man, because like it's
just crazy. Like we was talking and he was like
telling me he played for like eighteen years, like leave
like that's a long time, like you was playing back
then where it was like just different, whereas run the
ball all day long.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
It was like them they could stick them back then
on their hands.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (16:53):
I don't even know a stick of me with so that
that means its real old.
Speaker 2 (16:59):
I said, you tube video and stick them back in
the seventies.
Speaker 3 (17:01):
Yeah, they would put stuff on their arms and the
ball would just like stick to it.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
That's crazy, all right.
Speaker 3 (17:06):
So anybody doesn't know already you played a Kentucky but
you're from the South.
Speaker 2 (17:09):
You're from Georgia, South Georgia. Okay, So I mean I
think everybody figured out it was in Brooklyn.
Speaker 1 (17:14):
You know you've talked about last year about you and
EXL both being like country boys and stuff. Are you
into that Mullins type stuff like the raccoon like eating.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
Are you into all that stuff?
Speaker 4 (17:26):
Yeah? So you know it's similar.
Speaker 7 (17:28):
So you know, I'm front we you know, raccoon, hogs, beer, turkey,
like normal stuff, you know, just stuff like that. I've
seen people eat living before, like hog level, so just pigeon,
you know all that. So like I'm used to that.
So when people are like, man, you're eating that, I'm like, yeah,
like it's nothing new to me. Squirrel rabbit like when
they get called back home, we go in the backyard,
grab our pot and shotgun, go hun for squirreling.
Speaker 4 (17:51):
We eat them.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
Okay, all right, so you in XCEL got a little
there's gotta be a bond there.
Speaker 4 (17:55):
Yeah, yeah, it is. It is, you know.
Speaker 7 (17:57):
I told him like cause you know he and Big
and the hunting two. I said during the off season, like,
you know, hunting hogs, y're around, Like we need to
do that. He was like, bet, we definitely can.
Speaker 3 (18:06):
There you go now fitting enough, I believe I read
when you got drafted your aspirations post football you want
to be a vet.
Speaker 7 (18:13):
Right, Yeah, I do want to be a vet. You know,
I'm so big into animals, you know, growing up, even
back at home, like we had we got chickens, goats,
you know, pony, quarterhorse. So like I'm just big in
and stuff like that. Even when I got a dog
at my house right now.
Speaker 4 (18:27):
He's a pit bull.
Speaker 7 (18:27):
So you know, it's good to learn stuff like that,
you know, because I can save money, you know, instead
of going to a vet. It's like, well, I know
what to do when he's sick. I already know what
to do if something's wrong with him.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
Nice, that's cool. We're talking with Trevid Wallace, linebacker for
your Panthers. So you talked about you know, I mentioned
a lot of people kind of you know, when we
talk about breakout players, a lot of people are mentioned
in you and you said, I feel so much more comfortable.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
What's the difference for you? Is?
Speaker 1 (18:54):
Is it just the ability to fly around more, like
you're not hesitating, Like, what is what are we gonna notice?
I know you had a nice little run stuff the
other night. What are we gonna notice that's different about.
Speaker 4 (19:05):
You this year? Well?
Speaker 7 (19:06):
I tell people it's like this, you know, like a
little kid, like when you're going somewhere new, you're kind
of nervous and all that. But when you keep going
and keep going, you get more comfortable around people and
be able to open up.
Speaker 4 (19:17):
So I think that's what it is.
Speaker 7 (19:18):
I'm be able to open up and be able to
play with my play style or like when coaches tell
me that, like, you know, don't be scared to make
a mistake, you know. So it's like hearing that, it's
like okay, they give him an agree, like to just
go play ball, like don't always be perfect.
Speaker 4 (19:30):
So you know, just stuff like that, hear and stuff
like that.
Speaker 7 (19:32):
It's getting me more comfort, comfortable and be able to
stick my chest down, like Okay, Trevor, if you do this,
although of course might say something.
Speaker 4 (19:38):
If you make a play, then it's all right.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
What's rose Boom been like so far? And how are
you guys?
Speaker 7 (19:43):
Rose Boom? He's real good. He communicated a lot, you know,
real good. I say, our chemistry is like it's crazy
how good our chemistry is. And he just got here
like we got great chemistry. We talk along in the field.
If he sees something, he tell me. If I see something,
I tell him. So our chemistry is real good. I'm
glad to play with somebody like that cause I think
he had over with a und plus tackles last year,
so you know, he's a tackling machine. So that's just
good having somebody like that, because that's gonna push me
(20:05):
to try to reach that level that he's on.
Speaker 1 (20:07):
We've been playing a lot of clips of you lately,
actually become in one of our favorite we had the
one which where you took a shot at JJ.
Speaker 2 (20:13):
We played that one.
Speaker 3 (20:14):
And then you did an interview interview with Niche Shroff,
and fans were like, man, Trevin talks so fast, man,
And then there were people saying, Trevin sounds like Jameis Winston.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
Have you gotten that before? Have you heard that before?
There were some similarities.
Speaker 7 (20:31):
No, but a lot of people do you know, say
I talk fast, even my parents, But back at home
it's just be normal, everybody talking fast. So it's something
I used to it. So people like, man, you talking fast.
I'll be like, nah, bro, you can't understand what I'm saying.
But I get that a lot when people say, like
I talked fast, but Jameis Winston, I never heard it.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
Yeah, that's the look out for that one.
Speaker 3 (20:50):
Apparently you're the new Jamis, only guy to lead the
pregame speeches like he does, then go stands on the sidelines, So.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
Maybe being Jamis is not the best thing, all right.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
Man, Well, hey, we look forward to watching you this
year as as you develop, and I love talking to you, man.
Speaker 2 (21:06):
It was a pleasure. Appreciate you joining us. Best of
luck this year. There you go.
Speaker 1 (21:10):
Trevin Wallace, second year linebacker of your Carolina Panthers. We
talked about it, bone. I am hopeful that he does
make that jump. There is a really good athlete for
his size inside there. There really is, and you see
it in flashes. He made a play the other day,
nice sort of run stuff up near the line. I
(21:31):
think sideline. The sideline is his best stuff. The hope is,
like we talked about with him there and coach Canalis
brought this up last week, is that now he's comfortable
in the scheme, so now he can just react. It's
not something where he's overthinking it. So that's the hope, man,
because this is this is a guy that Dan Morgan drafted.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
I remember to hold Peyton Wilson. He drew.
Speaker 1 (21:54):
He shows Trevin over Peyton Wilson, and I think it's
because of that upside. I think it also might have
do Peyton Peyton Wilson's health issues coming out. But this
is a kid man that the coaching staff they've got
something to work with there. Man, They really do He's
another guy, very chill and different on the field. So
we listed off all the guys, and texts are pointing
out that's wu Kikley like personality for a lot of
(22:16):
these players. Yeah, he's another guy that is very docile
and tom and talking about animals and wanting to be
event but he goes out there and plays the most
savage game of all. So it just fits the theme
of a lot of these players on this roster right now.
I just look back at the text, Bone, I didn't
realize how many texts were coming in last hour when
I was screaming my head off here at Panthers camp
and inside this suite. I did not realize Bone, that
(22:40):
there were people texting like crazy.
Speaker 2 (22:43):
Uh, probably the police.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
There are people agree and disagree with my whole notion
that it is annoying to have Bryce be underestimated or
the Panthers be, in my opinion, underestimated. I mean, Lord
knows before, Bone, I've done this whole song and dance
before in the preseason, and it turns out the pundits
where sometimes but some texture this TEXTA says we got
to start winning games before this happens. Uh, Mac, We're
(23:08):
not going to get respect until we win games. Carolina
Catfish says we're still a laughing stock. Got to win
to change the narrative. Uh, let's see here. Record keeper says,
you guys only let's see here, you guys moaning about
the football bleep index Again.
Speaker 2 (23:29):
I don't know. I don't know why. It's the football
bleep indecks.
Speaker 3 (23:31):
It's football power powering. Sorry all right, and I take
that way because football bleep indecks wouldn't be FPI the FBI.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
This texter says, Bryce Young has to play better for
more than three games, you DFIs, So it's interesting.
Speaker 2 (23:45):
I thought people got my back. Well, he did play more.
Speaker 3 (23:47):
Than three better than in more than three games if
you actually paid attention, dufas, that's true.
Speaker 1 (23:52):
Thank you, Bone, thank you. He started coming doctor going
for a doctor over here, fat doctor Bone. All right, Sarah,
I don't think you want to take on doctor bone here.
But yeah, it was a ten game sample and that performance.
I'm not listening. I'm not saying it was all great.
The last three games were great. Those last three games
with ten touchdowns, zero picks. That was great football that
he played. And he knocked out the Cardinals out of
(24:13):
the playoffs and the Falcons out of the playoffs. I
just I don't know. I think people are just looking
at Panthers and looking at Bryce, and I don't think
they've updated their notes either.
Speaker 2 (24:24):
Bone. They haven't.
Speaker 3 (24:26):
It's I guess they either weren't paying attention last year.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
And I get it, you're a national media member. Why
you pay attention to the Panthers late in the season, right,
We're Donzo. So it's either they weren't paying attention or
they're trying to like say it doesn't mean anything. And
I know many a team's bone have finished a season
strong and it hasn't carried over. But I think when
you're a young, up and coming team, and I think
it was driven by improvement of a quarterback that clearly
(24:53):
got more confident, got a better handle on the system,
and started to prove. Like the reason why I believe
in Bryce is because that's who I thought he was
coming out from college.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
So now I'm seeing him, I'm.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
Like, it took him a while to get there, but
this is the quarterback I expected to see. Maybe some
of these doubters are like, they never expected to see
this version, so they're still skeptical.
Speaker 3 (25:14):
If they were called the Patriots, they'd be seen as
an upcoming team. If Bryce Young quarterback New England, they say, oh,
look Bryce Young the way he played, and Drake May
quarterback here, they'd say, well, has he done enough yet?
He's playing for the Panthers. Patriots, because of the organization,
gets the benefit of the doubt for an upcoming franchise already. Well,
the Panthers don't. But the situation's how different are they
at the moment? Yeah, well, one is an all time
(25:36):
winner and one is the Panthers who have struggled. It
seems like Drake May's getting a lot of Frank May's
getting tons of hype.
Speaker 1 (25:42):
You know, he was ahead of him, ahead of Bryce
by like four spots on the QB tiers list in
the Athletic which we didn't even really get into today.
Bryce did move up from tier four to tier three,
which is pretty cool. But Drake May also the Patriots bone.
In that future ESPN future rankings, where our quarterback position
ranked twenty fourth, the Patriots with Drake May rank seventh.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
It's supposed to be based on the next three years.
Speaker 1 (26:05):
Me so they're crowning Drake and I have to be
honest with you, if you look at the last six
to eight games, Bryce's numbers are better. I'm not saying
and listen, I'm not trying to turn this into us
against Drake May Fitty.
Speaker 2 (26:18):
I know you're not.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
Panthers Fitting is not comfortable with that because Tarhill Fitty
and Panthers Fitting will start fighting each other. And I
like Drake too, class kid, class family, but it does feel.
Speaker 2 (26:28):
Like I think it's just the size bone.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
I think they're you know, like someone texted in and said,
Chris Simms is big on physical traits. So with Bryce Young,
he's probably gonna have to keep proving it over and
over again to a guy like Sims. Do you think
that's what it is? Drake may is central casting body
of a quarterback right years Bryce. Maybe there's more of
a burden for Bryce to prove it to people, I guess.
Speaker 6 (26:50):
And also look at the footsteps that he's trying to
follow through who he's looking to be the heir apparent
to the quarterback throwing that's there in New England where
you know, Bryce is coming to usay situation where it's
been you know, quarterback rotunda, where there's been one quarterback
after another another year in Charlotte, So I definitely don't
want to have that conversation because Panther Fiddy will show up.
(27:11):
I think Bryce is going to be better than Drake,
but I don't want to tear down Drake because I
love Drake.
Speaker 2 (27:16):
But I do think Bryce because it's it's serious.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
ME ask you this, will Dave Canalis be a better
coach with the Panthers than Bill Belichick will with the Heels.
Speaker 6 (27:33):
They're both gonna make the playoffs? So I don't know
how to answer that question. I think I'll go yes
because I think Dave Canalis will take the Panthers closer
to the super Bowl than Bill Belichick will take Carolina
closer to winning a National tighter.
Speaker 3 (27:47):
About this Panther Fitty thing, you hate Drake more than
Future does. That puts Fiddy in a bad spot to
be Honestly, that's not a very good topic for this segment.
Speaker 2 (27:59):
They tell Drake mayhe like us, he ain't like QB.
Speaker 3 (28:03):
I think that's good for a full segment tomorrow though,
And put Fitty on the body end you want to
again price first Drake?
Speaker 2 (28:08):
Oh man, baby, I love it.
Speaker 1 (28:10):
Just tar heel Fitty and Panther Fitty colliding, and you
know how much he's trying to prove to all of
us Panther fans he is Panther Fitty, So he's torn.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
He's torn, man.
Speaker 6 (28:19):
Week three is gonna be a it's gonna be a
fun week of shows. It was week three, and then
when they played New England? Was that Week four?
Speaker 2 (28:26):
Four? Yeah? Week four? Okay, what does it go? Jacksonville Cardinals?
Week four is gonna be a fun week of radio.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
Dude, did you see what Bleacher Report said when they
picked I know him obsessing over a stupid crap. They
picked us four. I found two more listing to break
my bad y'all.
Speaker 1 (28:43):
He kept trying to show me these loose there's a
loose tune that has t MAC is one of the
worst preseason performers.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
Like it was done by some guy named the sports nuts.
Speaker 1 (28:54):
But anyway, in Bleacher Report, they said the Panthers start
off with three of their first four games on the road,
so it could be a brutal start for the Panthers.
It's like, but look at who we're playing though. Those
games are all freaking winnable.
Speaker 3 (29:07):
Man, It's not a gauntlet of road game. They have
to play on the road at some point.
Speaker 2 (29:10):
You know what that means. They got more home games later.
Speaker 1 (29:13):
By the way, Sycamore shout out best dang craft beer
in the state of North Carolina.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
Darren Gant, you need to tip you.
Speaker 1 (29:20):
I know you like drinking that that one type of
beer You've been drinking your whole life. But you need
to grab yourself a sycamore. Head to the tap room,
sir on Hawkins Street. Grab yourself a sycamore. Because Darren
Gant Bone, in doing this document and being a part
of this Panthers dot Com documentary, has unveiled the footage
of the twenty fifteen Cam Newton Josh Norman fight, and
(29:43):
they actually have the footage of Bone making his escape
route and running away when.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
The fight came over near you.
Speaker 3 (29:50):
I can't I think it's AI generated that Darren Gant
doctored up there.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
How did this just come about? Why now? Why is
this just coming out now? Yars later?
Speaker 3 (30:01):
Oh it's ten years later. But it's like found footage.
I got bigfoot in the woods. I did, I did,
I did. There is evidence of me moving away, but
I was getting out of bill vous way. He had
a camera on his shoulder, and I moved out of
his way, and I walked to the other side to
get out of his way. I'm a man, I run
the fights. I don't I don't run.
Speaker 1 (30:23):
How did it take you ten years to come up
with this excuse that you were getting out of Bill
Vat's way.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
I said, where you're I said, I moved out of
the way for years.
Speaker 3 (30:30):
I just Bill Vote specifically had Bill Vote was carrying
his tripod and I had to move out of the way.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
You know, you look like somebody you know what he
looks like. Fitting he looks like somebody that is at
the zoo, and all of a sudden, a zoo animal
gets out.
Speaker 2 (30:45):
And he's just like, I'm heading for the hills.
Speaker 1 (30:47):
That fight was coming towards our feet. I stayed strong,
those arms crossed.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
You don't even know how big Bill Vot's tripod was. Hey, now.
Speaker 3 (31:00):
It was a try body was carrying. I think a
lot about Bill vos tripod.
Speaker 2 (31:05):
That's good stuff. Talk about a third leg. All right,
all right, look we come back.
Speaker 1 (31:10):
Yeah, you said at the break all day, I don't know,
because you're supposed to be sending to break. I just
bow guarded it all day. For some reason. All right,
well we come back, hope board. Let's do this. We
got text to read. Y'all been texted like crazy. We
come back.
Speaker 4 (31:23):
Though.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
We also have a.
Speaker 1 (31:24):
Clip an NBA media member that basically says he thinks
the Hornets plan is to stink and draft really high
again next year. I don't know if you're gonna like this,
but you will hear this clip next Sports Radio ninety
two seven WFNZ.
Speaker 8 (31:48):
If Charlotte wants to be competitive in the East this year,
and if Flamelo Ball and Brandon Miller are healthy, sure,
I think you can make an argument, certainly that Charlotte
could get into the play mix and have a chance
to make the playoffs. I would also say, again from
an Actions over Words situation, that the current centers on
(32:11):
the Charlotte Hornets roster are Mason Plumley, Ryan Kopprenner and
the guy who might be their starter, MUSSA diabate like
that is not a recenter rotation of a team that
I think is really aggressively trying to move up the
standings this year. I think as Charlotte would love to
get a crack at Darren Peterson. Native ment Aj debantsa
(32:36):
you know, want Cameron Boozer one of these guys and
then put their foot down and start to really rev
things up.
Speaker 1 (32:43):
That's Tim bonteps n B, a ESPN writer, Maket Bone
with you Sports Radio ninety two to seven WFNZ.
Speaker 3 (32:51):
So I don't know. It feels like that pimeouth was
over to talking. You intercepted it right out it right,
Oh shoot my all right, all right though New York
butcher Shop cut of the day right there for locations Cornelis, Dilworth,
Indian and formil you are, I keep talking when you're
you know, I've been here all day.
Speaker 2 (33:05):
By the way, no, it's not your fault. You're wear
in a different different setup. I thought it was just
me and Pukey Marlow here today.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
I didn't realize doctor Boone was over there as well.
Speaker 2 (33:15):
But anyway, so that comment, I think we saw that.
Speaker 3 (33:18):
I think that went viral Friday, And by viral, I
mean Hornet's Twitter, right, like, not like some major thing,
but it seemed like some fans kind of like, oh
my god, I have to be honest with you.
Speaker 2 (33:28):
I'm not rooting for us to stink next year.
Speaker 1 (33:31):
But I understand if that's the way they're thinking, let
us get one of those four big dogs. And I
did tweet out on Friday that means the Hornets will
draft fIF next year.
Speaker 3 (33:39):
If these are the four guys they want one of them.
That's the way it works. That's Hornet's ish, but that
was post.
Speaker 2 (33:44):
Summer League title though, Hornets ish.
Speaker 3 (33:46):
But I do feel like one more big draft pick
and then get aggressive is not the.
Speaker 2 (33:53):
Worst thing in the world. I really do.
Speaker 3 (33:54):
Seems like a pretty uh loaded up draft class.
Speaker 2 (33:58):
Deeper at the top.
Speaker 3 (33:59):
I'd say, not that there's necessarily a Cooper, but it
feels like one through five is deeper. The Peterson kid
from Kansas that was mentioned there, he seems like he's
gonna be a major star in college this year. That
Native Met kid is athletic as hell to that's the
that's the kid that Duke almost Scott but he went
to Tennessee at the very end there. Yeah, that's a
(34:20):
that's a There's a lot of I mean, Boozer, there's any.
Speaker 1 (34:23):
One of those four, so I could understand why they're thinking.
Did you see someone said let's.
Speaker 2 (34:27):
Be losers for Boozer that'd some early had a spurly
tag slogans right.
Speaker 3 (34:35):
There, and if you get two first riders losers for
the Boozers, you hit.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
The boat, all right, Mac and bow with you. We
think we got it losing at Boozing. We gotta thank
everybody with the Panthers that helped us be here, our guy,
Bruce Spate, Charlie Rock, everybody.
Speaker 2 (34:52):
Else, all the players that came on.
Speaker 1 (34:54):
If you missed any of these interviews, Derek Brown, Robert Hunt,
Ikeyk Won, JJ Janssen, Trevin Wallace, Trayvon Mayrig, and Bobby Brown,
you can listen to the interviews later today.
Speaker 2 (35:06):
They'll be podcasting. You can check those out. It was fun, man.
Speaker 1 (35:09):
We had two good shows here at camp, and I
guess camp basically ends today bone they have a practice
today where they'll actually have an eleven U Police Athletic
League team from here in Charlotte that kind of gets
to practice with the Panthers. They do that, I think
just about every year. And they're gonna have a wrap
up today, fly to Houston to Morris. This is basically
the end of training camp and the next time they'll
(35:30):
be I guess they haven't walked through more before they fly,
but the next time they'll be getting after it in
practice will be the joint practice in Houston on Thursday.
Part of me hopes they get in a fight today
just so I can get in there, try to break
it up.
Speaker 2 (35:39):
And you want to redeem.
Speaker 3 (35:40):
Yourself store by reputation. Also that seemed like good luck
at twenty fifteen.
Speaker 2 (35:45):
That is true. Someone wants Bryce to fight j C. Horn.
Speaker 1 (35:47):
Some guy says, when Bryce Man handles j C. Horn,
we will know it'll be a special season.
Speaker 3 (35:52):
Jac can have both thumbs completely stitched up and still
take out Bryce. I don't think that's the problem. Maybe
maybe Jimmy Horn, and it's more on the level of therego.
But I don't want those two fighting. By the way,
I just thought about something. I was reminded I saw
something on a computer during the break. If we think
XL was a knucklehead, and he's been so accountable, he
(36:13):
did the presser, guys have been very accountable, says, it
won't happen against I don't want to get on him anymore.
And and maybe it's not all bad there, Like y'all said,
there is there's a dog inside that, you know, kind
of fun loving guy that we see off the field,
but excel not near the knucklehead of the week. The
two Dolphins players that got into a fight against each
other in the middle of Bears Dolphins joint practice, they
(36:36):
take the NFL.
Speaker 2 (36:36):
Knucklehead of the week of war. How does that happen?
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (36:40):
Miami, Uh, Miami, low key could be a mess this year.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
We'll see.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
But the Tyreek Hill, maybe he gets traded at some
point Miami. For the growth that they had for a
couple of years, they're starting to regress here.
Speaker 1 (36:55):
A little bit to his health too, is a thing.
I don't wish him any harm, you know, But that's
where you wonder.
Speaker 3 (37:00):
Because they were up and company. They were up in
coming just a couple of years ago, that offense. But
I don't know anymore. Man, two we got on. I
don't know what you know?
Speaker 2 (37:08):
Man? Is that Gruden right that? I don't know?
Speaker 4 (37:09):
Man?
Speaker 2 (37:11):
Pepe? Why are they named the Dolphins? Ben? Dolphins aren't scary?
Speaker 4 (37:13):
Man?
Speaker 2 (37:13):
So a lot of texts coming in.
Speaker 1 (37:15):
Bone As I was screaming about disrespect to the Panthers passionately,
I was directing it towards the locker room too.
Speaker 2 (37:21):
Bone.
Speaker 3 (37:21):
I thought for a second, maybe I would inspire the
players it turns out I was old man yelling into
a cloud, essentially, but we got some comments on it.
Speaker 1 (37:30):
On the text line. A text wants to know did
Mac hit the smelling salts before that rant? Another text
wants the team doctor to check on me, worried about
my heart rate.
Speaker 3 (37:40):
We do have doctor bone I am here. Somebody wants
to know what is with the doctor bone bit. A
neighbor recently asked me, what's my connection? I don't know
if they are sports. I haven't had much conversation with
the guy. What's with the duke in South what's my
connected to South Carolina? And do because he's the stuff
I'm wearing. Yeah, And I sarcastically said, I graduated from
(38:03):
South Carolina.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
I got a PhD from duke.
Speaker 3 (38:06):
So I saw him the other day and he called
me doctor outside and he didn't laugh. Well, he didn't
laugh or anything. So now I can't take it back.
So I to this guy, I am a doctor. If
he's got medical problems. Now I got confused with I
thought PhD was like, I'm working on your bones, But
apparently that's more of the uh, the other variety.
Speaker 1 (38:26):
Yeah, yeah, that's uh yeah, So you're not even a
medical doctor.
Speaker 2 (38:29):
What are you like?
Speaker 4 (38:30):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (38:31):
I'm just your doctor, Bone Bien, your doctor, Jill Jill
Boney Boney, My god.
Speaker 2 (38:38):
Oh, I guess I gotta write.
Speaker 3 (38:39):
I guess I got to write a book and speak
on high school graduations or something. But I'd like to
be I'd like to be referred to now as a
good doctor. Do you know we had a good TV show.
We had a gym teacher when I was in fifth
and sixth grade. Now, looking back, it's kind of weird.
He made us call him the good doctor.
Speaker 2 (38:57):
Oh god. Now the more I the more I think
about it.
Speaker 3 (39:00):
Now, I'm a fifth grader having to call a grown
man the good doctor.
Speaker 2 (39:06):
What is wrong? Sometimes I look up his name just
to see what's going on.
Speaker 1 (39:09):
What has happened to this guy? I'm afraid to know
he'd say he called me the good doctor. Last text,
I don't know about that. Last text came in after
we talked to JJ. It says I noticed with most
of the guys at camp, they're like a hard out
just a few minutes into the interview, probably a ton
of stuff to do. JJ is like a solid twenty
five minute spot, and it felt like you wanted to
keep talking, Sir, you have figured out training camp interviews
(39:34):
to a t, no doubt about it.
Speaker 3 (39:36):
I went like breaking news. Your longtime insurance guy AC, Yes,
cowboy fan known to a lot of listeners, is very
close to leaving the Dallas Cowboys for the Panthers.
Speaker 1 (39:48):
Oh my god, we gonna give Panther fitting a Panther
Ac in the same offseason.
Speaker 6 (39:52):
He's gonna go through tryouts. You can't just join Panther Nation.
You've got to earn your way into Let.
Speaker 1 (39:57):
Him beat that damn raccoon with you here in a
few weeks. All right, we gotta get out of here, y'all.
Thanks for listening. I hope you enjoyed as much as
we did. Thanks to everybody with the Panthers. Colin Hoggard
Charlotte Sport Today coming up next
