Speaker 1 (00:15):
Today's about what we're trying to accomplish. The players that
we brought in, the players that represent what we want
to bring to North Carolina. I think in our first year,
we've learned a lot about the university. We learned a
lot about the ACEC, we learned a lot about college football,
but we learned a lot about what matters in terms
of how to recruit. Recruiting is about, like scouting, is
(00:36):
about finding what you want. And I think this class
represents our first class represents about finding what we want
and that goes along with the Hall of Fame coach
to be able to develop the talents from within. So really,
today's a great day for all the recruits. As far
as the recruiting class looks, as coach said, it's robust,
(00:56):
it's big. It wasn't intended always to be that way,
but I think what a lot of things have happened
during the course of the season with coaching changes, which
opened up a lot of players to come available. It
afforded us an opportunity to capitalize on that and build
a roster. And this is the first real time that
coach and our whole staff have been able to build
(01:20):
a roster in a manner in which we see it fit.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
That is Michael Lombardi, GM off North Carolina football talking
about a recruiting class BONE that included thirty nine new
siginees and includes thirteen five stars.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
That is, that's the eighth month five.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Or four stars. I'm sorry, I find that would be
a deva deal. Thirteen four stars. That is the eighth
most four stars in the country. So there's a lot
in there. But there's a lot of four star football
players in there as well. It's seventeenth in the country
overall according to twenty four to seven. And that's Lombardi
talking about how that came to be. To have a conversation,
(02:00):
I want to put the Bill and Dave conversations together
Bone instead of doing them separate. I want to bring
let's bring tar Heel and Wook Pack fans together this
holiday season in one segment. And I would like, they're going.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
To dine over a rib ROAs from the New York
butchers or are they just going to roast each other?
Speaker 2 (02:20):
I could provide some sycamore Christmas cookie ale, I could
provide some mountain candy for that dinner boat. I could
certainly do that. I am just curious because here's kind
of the parallel. Here's why I'm putting it into one segment.
They're both back for another year, right, And I do
think Belchick and Lombardi deserve credit for that, for that
recruiting class, as I think Dave Doran deserves credit for
(02:41):
the way they finished the season. It was another year
where they didn't quit on Dave, where Dave had them
fighting through adversity and they ended up finishing strong. And
I think that's one of Dave Dorin's fortes, So I
think he deserves credit for that. But I still wonder
Bone if both fan bases have the same reaction to
the fact that these guys are back, because there was
a point in the season Bone where I'm not sure
(03:02):
we thought either one would be back. The Dave Dorn
retirement stuff was strong. He's kind of called people out.
Joe Gillios literally apologized to him for saying that stuff. Belichick,
I mean that that one week Bone, that one bye
week the Heels had when all those national reports came
out about chaos and stuff like. I would not have
thought that he would be back for a second year
(03:25):
if you were to ask me on those days. So
I want to know Tario football fans and we'll peck
football fans are either of you happy to have your
coach back, excited about these coaches and what they can do,
because it feels to me bone they're different situations.
Speaker 5 (03:41):
Right.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
Dorn's been there forever Belichick's first year. But I get
the feeling that neither fan base is like raw rah
over these guys, you know, being back.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
I think the happiest fan base that they're back might
be the Duke fans because as the back to back
state champstle, who really cares to go to those teams
right now? But muse sattled out we had other stuff
to worry about. Max to go ask the Carolina and
Nancy State fans because Duke fans, I'm happy with them,
you want them to stay for a while.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
I guess I'll start with I guess I'll talk about
the differences to them while y'all are texting in. I
do want to hear from the fans on this one
of each side, and last, Fitty, the differences are with
Dave Dorn. You know what he is as a college
football coach. He's been there, he's done that, He's consistent.
I think you know you're going to be a good program,
(04:36):
Bone more often than not. But I think if you're
a State fan, I don't blame you if your thoughts
are man. I wanted to believe the retirement talk. I
kind of wanted him to sail off into the sunset,
even with the way they finished the season. I've been
a big, you know, defender of Dave Dorn on this
radio show. But I don't blame State fans for being like, Okay,
(04:58):
I know we're really solid with him. I'd like to
try to be more than solid, because even as a
Dave Dorn defender, I feel like we know what he
is right now. Like, do you think Bone, there's a
chance we haven't seen Dave Dorn's best or do you
think we just literally know what he's going to do?
We know what his best is, and is that good
enough for State fans? That's the question that I can't answer,
(05:21):
only State fans can. Are you happy with the consistency
that he has? Do you want more?
Speaker 4 (05:27):
Or do you also fear that if he does get
let go, maybe it's not it's consistent, maybe you dip
down further than he had. Gears Dot you kind of
know year in and year ultimately where they're going to
be by the end. It may differ by a win
or two. Hear there, the path might be different. Well,
you kind of know ultimately who you are. There is
that chance that if they did let Dorn go or
(05:48):
he retires, that you don't hire the right guy and
you dip down and all of a sudden you go,
you go four wins, five wins, nine wins, four wins.
Like you know, at least now there's consistency. That is
a good point. That's a point that does need to
be made. I don't want to when I say that,
part of me does feel like maybe it's time for
a change. And you see, Wolf brings up a great
(06:08):
point with this coaching cycle. He's glad Dave.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
Staying and maybe that's part of their thought process over
there bone not just the way he finished and proved
again that this team never quits on me, right, but
maybe it is. Hey, I don't think we want to
be involved in that crazy cycle. We'll catch you next year,
see what the cycle looks like next year.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
Whatever.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
But I think your point's a good one for every
NC State fan. Seven H four number Dave Dorin has
done good work for us. We need to find someone
that will do great work for us. I understand that
I'm with you kind of. But Bone's point is a
fair one. We need to state there. It is far
from a guarantee that NC State hires a football coach
and he's as good as Dave Doran like. There is
(06:48):
certainly a world right to your point, where NC State
goes out there, rolls the dice, doesn't take the bird
in hand right the solid coach they know they have,
and ends up regretting it.
Speaker 4 (07:01):
That that's possible to true. So you're seeing it right now.
I'm mag different circumstances, but you're seeing it at Penn State.
Sometimes when you wear fort ch ass, sometimes when you
let a coach go that you kind of know what
you're getting you you, things can happen. Sometimes we've seen
State before go through some light the searches before. So
you may let a guy go and all of a
sudden you end up and for whatever reason, you don't
(07:23):
lan in your top two, three, four guys you want,
and all of a sudden you have to really go.
You have to go try to figure out who you want,
and then you then the thought would be, oh, maybe
we should have just kept Dave Doran like PA's State's
thinking much the whole be careful what you ask for
a thing like any program that is at a point
where and I'm not acting like Dave dorn has, you know,
it is where Franklin was obviously right. But like if they,
(07:45):
if they, if there's some good and some solid there,
you're there's a risk and you're seeing Penn State, you're
seeing the risk there. Who's yours daddy's daddy is a
State fan? I did not know that, he says. I
definitely am glad Dave is staying this year. Too many
other vacancies to find a quality coach, so I stand corrected.
It sounds like State fans are pretty pretty cool with
(08:07):
Dave saying at least this year with this site. Part
of that also because they just beat the hell out
of UNC again.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
Also, and that's the one did Georgia Tech win too?
They finished pretty damn strong, this dude, says. Doug says,
I'll stick with dorin nine to eight zero number as
long as we keep beating that. Heels, but Dave can
stay all right. You got a good point by aj.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
Also, he's an ECU grad and he says, remember when
Ecu I'll paraphrasey, but remember ECU went ruff and McNeil go. Yes,
another one just for the sake of change. Really Ruff
and McNeil got let go. And they took a long
time to get over that. That made no sense to me.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
And that one has Yeah, that's a great there's a
lot of those. Be careful what you asked for like moves. Yes,
that's another one. That's a good call. Now, what about
Carolina fans. I don't really see many Carolina fans chiming in.
I the Carolina things different because Dave Dorn's established, Hey,
solid at the very least solid good most of the time.
(09:09):
For Carolina, it's this big to do. It's this big.
We have no idea, like fitty do you like do
you think are there just no Tario fans Glad Belichick's staying.
But by the same token, we're not getting a bunch
of text fitty from Tario fans.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
That are like, of course I'm not glad.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
He's like, like, are Tario fans just kind of like
let me give him the chance I think to give him,
you know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (09:32):
He had a good recruiting class.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
Let me try to let him learn from his errors,
learn the you know, the business of college football, and
try to make somem.
Speaker 3 (09:40):
Is that where they're at? I guess yeah.
Speaker 6 (09:42):
I think they're just kind of indifferent on it. Like,
am I glad he's back?
Speaker 3 (09:45):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (09:46):
I glad's the right word. Have they moved on from?
And what I've been upset?
Speaker 3 (09:49):
Now?
Speaker 6 (09:50):
I get why they're keeping him. First off, who were
you getting in the cycle?
Speaker 3 (09:54):
That was this?
Speaker 6 (09:55):
You know chaotic? And I do think I may have
played a part in it. But like now, I mean
next year, like there's pressure. Okay, you go four and eight,
you're acclimated. You didn't have your roster that you know
those that's their words. So they told you wednesday we
did not have a roster that fits our image for
the program.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
This will be the first time that we have that.
But the schedule's tougher.
Speaker 6 (10:16):
You gotta go to Ireland and her Dame comes to town,
so on and so forth. Are you gonna make a
bowl game? Because if not, then what are we doing?
We're paying you ten million dollars? Do you so you
think this is kind of a make or break year?
Like if they don't bone, I'll ask you bone because
I know.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
Thinking about Jordan dressing up Bill as a leprechawn next
year in Ireland.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
They loved a role play.
Speaker 6 (10:36):
We know that.
Speaker 4 (10:39):
Funny, Honey, I don't think this is a good idea.
Bill just wear you're out, you your dance dance?
Speaker 2 (10:46):
Oh my god, what do you think about this? Because
I have to be honest with you. I wanted him going.
I know no one's shocked by that hearing me talk
about it. I just, I just there's not a whole
lot of reasons to have faith in him and Lombardi
the commnation. I just I'm not sure bone that college
football in twenty twenty five is for these two gentlemen.
I am very unimpressed with the current bill. The current bill,
(11:08):
the way he's become a mockery because of his young girlfriend,
the way he just lets her take things over and
just stands there and stares, the way bony he just
looked lifeless on the sidelines, like I just don't even
know if he cares like or is he just collecting
a paycheck. I just don't know. But to have that
recruiting class in the bag, did they want to turn
that away or do they also made a big investment
(11:31):
bone to give up on it in one year. So
I do understand that.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
Ballacheck good for the future of the program though, and
I don't mean the immediate I don't mean this class
or is it gonna be one of these things where
the next coach is gonna have to do a lot
of cleanup from whatever the message is left behind because
they're going to try to do this quickly like they
did last year.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
It may not work. So I do wonder long term.
Speaker 4 (11:54):
Even if it does turn out slightly successful, I do wonder,
like what the cleanup may want, like after the Belichick
Lombardi mess here, when they've got to almost redo the
program and try to get a younger coach re establish
some stuff. Also, Mac, I also wonder too, that is
great that Belichick is getting recruits and they're selling the
program to get guys in there. But when the guys
(12:16):
get in there, are they gonna look around at Belichick
and go, oh, yeah, this isn't really this isn't really
my thing here, this old name, I'm.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
Gone the thing.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
It's just because you have young freshmen, they're gonna get
to their sophomore year, they're gonna get to their junior year,
you know, are you gonna make it to their sophomourn juniors?
And then they lose Kimori House yesterday, a guy who
has kind of been on social media, kind of like
dropping little comments here and there about the way it
is behind the scenes.
Speaker 6 (12:39):
So, oh yeah, well, how about a thirteen speeding tickets?
Like if you want to play, is.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
That a real number?
Speaker 6 (12:45):
Oh yeah, yeah, you want to drive like a maniac,
that's fine.
Speaker 5 (12:49):
You better.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
Watch them fitty, Oh my god, he's turning red. Watch
the f bomb. Oh god, Oh that was close. I
watched it close.
Speaker 6 (13:05):
I watched him get blocked out of plays by wake
Forest Dukan inc statement. You want to you want to
be that way off the field, then you better be
that way on the field.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
And he was not.
Speaker 6 (13:16):
I thought the last three games, I thought he was
borderline atrocious.
Speaker 5 (13:20):
So you.
Speaker 3 (13:22):
Stroken to see him go? Did you say thirteen speeding tickets?
Speaker 5 (13:25):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (13:25):
All right, how'se to.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
Georgia make it happen? We got one toytal fan says
he'd rather have me be the coach than Bill Belichick.
Speaker 3 (13:34):
Are you sure?
Speaker 2 (13:35):
Are you sure about that? Our guy Ryan Big State fans,
says Carolina fans were too busy texting and calling during
the offseason about their upcoming ten to twelve win season
with Billy. Now all those phony football fans have climbed
back under their rock and only care about basketball. Dang, Fitty,
how might make you want to cuss again? Fitty?
Speaker 3 (13:55):
You want cussing him?
Speaker 2 (13:56):
Now? Fitty dumped himself over there though. You got on
that quick though.
Speaker 4 (14:03):
By the way, I uh, I've sent too many strays
your way. So what Max says? You dumped yourself. I'm
not gonna go in. You go ahead and finished a joke.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
There, man, I don't want to take the stray up.
Speaker 4 (14:14):
This is a very easy one about Fitty getting dumped,
and I'm not gonna I will not usually will not
go down. Fitty at your back on this one now,
because you were very quick.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
On that dump button. Oh, usually it's the women doing
the dumping.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
There you go, bone, the fact that the bone this
all right, the straight jumped into bones. You're there are
fitty strays that, regardless of what's happening, Bone are just
popping just dancing in your head today.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
They really are.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
I don't know, I just I look at him sometimes
and I'm like, there's a straight couping your way thought. Well,
he knows when we come back. Zach Gelb, Infinity Sports Network,
what's he think about the surging Panthers? On Sports Radio n.

out at the Carolina Panthers. Bone, God bless these gentlemen
for the first time in the Tepper Ara. I should
know second time in the temper air because we did
have the Steve Wilks run second time in the Tepper era.
(15:46):
But it certainly is a rarity. We're right there in
the mix half game out of first half. So whatever
it is, fellas you having a bye week, behave yourself,
but tip back one of those Sycamore Christmas cookie als.
Maybe maybe head over to the ten room behave yourself
over there. But that place is gonna be jumping this
weekend with live music. Bone, or maybe it's a Mountain Candy.
But anyway, I'm just so giddy. I'm just so giddy.
(16:07):
We're in the mix.
Speaker 4 (16:08):
What if you dip your cookies in that sycamore beeroo?
Speaker 3 (16:12):
Got I tried out this weekend. Yeah, put an.
Speaker 4 (16:14):
Actual cookie and the Christmas cookie in the in the
cookie in the cookie beer.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
I'm gonna do. Report back to you. I'm gonna try
that out there. Try that out this weekend. Bone, all right,
our next guest he can also get a sycamore shout
out as well. We got so much to talk about.
Whether it's the Panther shock in the world and beating
the Rams, whether it is the Dan Cowboys last night
getting all the national media's hopes up and giving up
forty four points, whether it's the college football playoff mess.
(16:40):
We got a lot of stuff talk about. With Zach
Gelb Infinity Sports Radio, who joins us here on the
Mac and Bone Show.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
Gelby, how you feeling this week?
Speaker 5 (16:48):
Man?
Speaker 7 (16:49):
I'm doing great. Where are my cookies? Though? Like, can
you send some over this way?
Speaker 3 (16:53):
I feel like that's the least we could do.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
We can at least pay Gelvin cookies you know this
holiday season. I wouldn't mind it and pay just straight
up cookies. Actually, I think.
Speaker 8 (17:02):
First thirty six cookies get sent to me FedEx overnight.
Speaker 7 (17:06):
I have them by the game tomorrow.
Speaker 9 (17:08):
Should be good.
Speaker 4 (17:08):
Right, My first six years in radio they only paid
me in oreos, So it's it's all good.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
You can relate, you can, you can definitely relate.
Speaker 7 (17:17):
They moved to chip the hoys for.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
You now, Yeah, yeah, it's true.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
Yeah, Gelby, I'm gonna we gotta start with the Panthers
upset win over the Rams. I'm certainly not going to
like say, I bet you didn't believe in us Gale,
because I can't imagine anybody did.
Speaker 7 (17:32):
We.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
Bone and I both had the Panthers losing by double digits.
But they continue to prove that they're all over the place,
but they're also capable of big time wins. What did
you think of them pulling that off?
Speaker 8 (17:46):
I think before this game up against the Rams. The
most impressive win of the season, people would probably say
was going to Green Bay and beating the Packers. I
think you can make the argument the first time up
against the Falcons just how decisive it was that being thirty.
Speaker 7 (18:00):
But this is by far and away the most impressive.
Speaker 8 (18:03):
One because you could have argued last week heading into
it that the Rams are the best team in the NFL.
And what I love the most obviously them is turner
turnovers by the Rams. But Bryce Young to Ted McMillan
late in that game. That is what a team that
is moving in the right direction needs to see from
their younger players. You have a quarterback who's been through
(18:23):
a lot, had his good moments, had his bad moments. Ted,
they made the big draft pick this year, them coming
through late. It's not just that they won, it's also
how they won. I was thoroughly impressed with the Carolina Pants,
so I said this about a month ago with you guys,
it's like every game now when you tune in, nothing
would deprive me. It's what I see from this team,
(18:44):
and you know, who knows, maybe it ends at the
end of the season where they end up winning the NFC.
Speaker 9 (18:48):
South.
Speaker 4 (18:48):
How much how much of a chance do you give
them to win this out because the Bucks schedule definitely
is in their favor, the Bucks favor.
Speaker 8 (18:56):
Yeah, I would say it's probably fifty five sixty percent
still in favor of Tampa.
Speaker 5 (19:02):
But that's a pretty.
Speaker 9 (19:03):
Camp good percent.
Speaker 8 (19:04):
Like if I was talking at any point this season
the Calndar Panthers that have a forty percent chance in
my estimation, to win the NFC South.
Speaker 7 (19:11):
It's not greater.
Speaker 9 (19:13):
You would take that in a second?
Speaker 3 (19:14):
Hell yeah, no doubt and actually gelby.
Speaker 4 (19:17):
That nominally the first the first after the first two
games of the season. If you said that we want
to sign up for that the way things started this year,
we want to go to Jacksonville, FLA management days.
Speaker 8 (19:27):
Honestly, I thought I was gonna say, guys, that's too
many syllables in this secondent.
Speaker 9 (19:31):
Can't do it with how it starts the first.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
Hey, we were worried we'd lose you the first two
weeks of the season. Bone, I would have taken a
four percent chance to win the division after those two games.
Speaker 3 (19:41):
There's no doubt about it.
Speaker 5 (19:42):
But it's interesting.
Speaker 8 (19:43):
I thought I was just going to get larryng ngitens
for Friday.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
Oh Man, So Gil, It's interesting though the number you
give there, because we talked about this this week because
Bone and Fitty have gone on record now after the
win and they've said they think they're going to the playoffs.
I'm still kind of feeling like because I think they're
gonna have to sweep Tampa, because I think Tampa is
is likely to beat New Orleans and able to beat
the Falcons. And if they do, then if they just
(20:11):
split with us, they have the division, they will have
the division record tiebreaker. But but I thought the number
Bone and I gave out is around thirty five or
forty percent. You know, the math geeks still are giving
the Panthers like an eighteen to twenty one percent chance.
Speaker 5 (20:26):
Only.
Speaker 8 (20:27):
Oh that's why I never did really well in Matt's
when I was in college.
Speaker 7 (20:30):
Or so, the Panthers at seven and six. Uh, they
lost to the States the first time arounds.
Speaker 8 (20:35):
Let's say, coming off the by they're gonna beat the
same so that gets them to eighty. I would then
say they probably split with Tampa, so that's gonna put
them at nine. Beat and seeah, at least the game
is in Carolina I would probably say that it's a
loss of Seattle, so that would put them at nine
and eight on the season. The Bus are seven and five,
so you've got them to.
Speaker 7 (20:55):
Split against the Panthers that get them to eight.
Speaker 8 (20:57):
They probably beat the Saints nine.
Speaker 5 (21:00):
Yeah, and then you get Miami in there.
Speaker 9 (21:02):
It's gonna be close.
Speaker 7 (21:03):
Like, hey, would it shock you?
Speaker 8 (21:07):
I'm not saying expected, but with this painter seems they
just beat the Rams. Are they capable of beating the
Buccaneers twice?
Speaker 3 (21:13):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (21:13):
I don't think it's crazy.
Speaker 4 (21:14):
Heck yeah, they all they could lose to the Saints
and beat the Bucks twise and it wouldn't shock us.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
They could. That's yeah, you said it, man.
Speaker 2 (21:22):
With like every week, any outcome with this team is
on the damn table. And that's gonna be the key
Gelby is can they find some consistency in the final
four weeks win three of them, sweep the Bucks and
beat the Saints. If they can find some consistency, they're
getting there. It's just I don't know, are we ready
for consistency, gelp or is it another offseason and then
(21:43):
this team will have a better roster and then maybe
they're ready to be consistent. I don't know, but it's
but it's fun though, you know, yeah that I.
Speaker 8 (21:51):
That I can't tell you like this. We we could
barely even tell you what look like.
Speaker 5 (21:55):
The final four weeks of the season.
Speaker 8 (21:56):
So in terms of what they're gonna do in the
off season, I don't know.
Speaker 9 (22:00):
But Bryce is playing better.
Speaker 7 (22:01):
He's managing the game. That has been really damn good.
Speaker 8 (22:04):
Whoever they kind of plugged and played this year at
running back has been working.
Speaker 9 (22:07):
The defense is the making strides.
Speaker 8 (22:09):
You know, this team's so far away, and maybe they
are ahead of the curve, but even if they missed
the postseason and they're nine and eight.
Speaker 7 (22:17):
This is gonna be the most optimistic.
Speaker 5 (22:18):
You've been about a Panther team in a long time.
Speaker 8 (22:22):
Going into what would be an offseason and next season.
Speaker 3 (22:24):
Ton Ton Gelby.
Speaker 4 (22:26):
Dan Graziano of ESPN had a blurb this week about
the Panthers likely to pick up the fiftier option for
Bryce Young and then they'll figure out down the line
eventually about a bigger contract and they're gonna let it
play out. Does that make sense to you to pick
up the fiftieer option, not do the full deal now
and then, because you have time waited out and see
if Bryce has more consistency down the line.
Speaker 8 (22:49):
Absolutely, like, do not give this guy forty five fifty
million dollars a year right now. Quite frankly, he doesn't
deserve it. And we've seen guys where it was Trevor Lawrence,
you know.
Speaker 5 (23:04):
To a too Biloa.
Speaker 8 (23:06):
I remember having these conversations, and when they gave them
the contracts, I said, way too early.
Speaker 5 (23:13):
You could wait.
Speaker 8 (23:14):
You know, Morgant and Company here and you know the owner.
They got to make sure to be patient here. You know,
Bryce Young has been fine, he's been okay. You know,
I'm not rushing and giving him this ridiculous contract now.
Next year if he balls out, different stories, but for now,
(23:34):
just stay the course. It looks like he's gonna be
here for five years. He's right now in year three,
and don't do something where you overpay him and then
two years from now we're sitting there saying, oh my god,
there's three more years of Bryce Young. They got to
get rid of him and need all that money.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
Yeah, yeah, Now I'm with you. I like Bryce and
I love two of those last three games. But it's like,
let's not rush it. Let's see more. Right, let's get
let's get more of a sample size. Zach Elber's with
US Infinity Sports Radio as he is every Friday. Gelby,
I'm gonna here. I'm gonna give you this gift this
holiday season, all right. I am going to allow you
to completely tee off on or just completely mock and
(24:13):
laugh at by Penn State. Nitney Lyons Glby. I am
in pain. This coaching search is an embarrassment. Man, Oh
my god, what do you think of this mess?
Speaker 8 (24:24):
Well, number one, I don't like to beat up on
the porch.
Speaker 5 (24:26):
I won't mock you guys.
Speaker 8 (24:27):
The number two, like me hating Penn State kind of
goes out the window since James Franklin is no longer there.
Speaker 5 (24:34):
Oh okay, but.
Speaker 7 (24:35):
There's no doubt about it.
Speaker 5 (24:36):
This is sloppy.
Speaker 8 (24:37):
I still think it was the right decision to move
off to James Franklin. But they got to hire a coach,
you know. Kalani Tataki kind of came out of nowhere
and then Crumble Cookie and all that stuff kept him
at b YU and the and the Mormons. Now I
guess it's gonna be Matt Campbell. My only concern about
Matt Campbell, who's a really damn good football coach, and
(24:57):
I'm curious to see what he could do if he
is the Penn State guy with bigger resources. A few
years ago, Iowa State was supposed to win the Big
Twelve and they came up significantly short, and he was like, hey,
I never said my.
Speaker 7 (25:09):
Expectation was to win the Big Twelve.
Speaker 8 (25:11):
So like you go to Penn State where they just
fired the coach because he wasn't gonna win national championship,
you have to embrace those big expectations.
Speaker 7 (25:19):
So I think it would be.
Speaker 8 (25:20):
A good, higher, solid higher. But here's what I know
about Packcraft because I covered him for two coaching searches
when he was at Temple. Usually he moves in silence
like he's very close to the best, and that's what
this search was trending. And then once the take stuff
got out and he didn't land him in, I think
all bets are off now. So could it be Terry Smith,
(25:42):
Could it be Brian Daball, Could it be Matt Campbell.
I don't know, but like, let's get the white smoke.
Speaker 7 (25:47):
Pumping and find out who's gonna be the next tea.
Speaker 4 (25:49):
Oh you worried that Casey Keeler from Temple maybe next
on the list.
Speaker 9 (25:56):
That's a good one. I'm gonna assume though.
Speaker 8 (25:59):
But man, that guy, he's done a wonderful job getting
five wins for the Owls this year.
Speaker 9 (26:04):
He cleared or over under like, uh, you know, a.
Speaker 5 (26:06):
Few weeks into the season.
Speaker 8 (26:07):
But I think we're protecting in like two wins this year.
Speaker 5 (26:09):
So I like that was a good year.
Speaker 3 (26:12):
That was a good year for your Temple Owls. Before
we let you go.
Speaker 7 (26:14):
The Bavy game though, should have won that.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
That was a blown game, big time.
Speaker 9 (26:19):
You watched it a lot.
Speaker 2 (26:20):
I know how it ended, Delby, I know how I
know how I get touched down by Navy.
Speaker 3 (26:26):
May have had a little bit of a partway on that.
Oh there you go.
Speaker 2 (26:29):
So bow was locked in, his money was on the line,
all right. So Gelby, let's uh last thing. How do
you what do you make of the whole Alabama jumping
ahead of Notre Dame and kind and Miami still being
behind Notre Dame. B Yu is kind of the flying
the ointment there. If they win, you know it's going
to bounce maybe Notre Dame. How do you feel about
(26:51):
that log jam right there? From from kind of Alabama
through Miami. What do you make of this?
Speaker 7 (26:57):
So Alabama should have always been.
Speaker 9 (27:00):
In front of Notre Dame.
Speaker 8 (27:01):
I thought the committee jumped them way to you know,
had them drop way too far. So I'm glad that
they made that adjustment. But when I was hearing Hunter
your check speak, the debate really all this time from
US has been Notre Dame in Miami, but in the
committee room it's been Alabama and Notre Dames.
Speaker 7 (27:17):
I don't even think.
Speaker 8 (27:17):
They really debated truthfully.
Speaker 5 (27:19):
Notre Dame and Miami.
Speaker 8 (27:21):
So Alabama I think is in regardless even if they
lose the SEC championship game. They just can't get blown out.
But klen DeVore the last two years is defeated Georgia twice,
so I think that game is going to be close,
and I kind of think Alabama does win it.
Speaker 9 (27:33):
But I think Alabama's in either way.
Speaker 5 (27:35):
Now.
Speaker 8 (27:35):
If b WHYU beat Texas Tech, Texas Tech and BYU
are both in. If BYU loses, I think they're out,
and then it comes down to Miami and Notre Dame,
who are both idle. It's crazy to me because it
makes no sense of what I'm about to say. When
the first rankings came out, Notre Dame was ten, Miami
was eighteen, and now it's been pushed up to where
(27:55):
Notre Dame's ten in Miami is twelve. I think if
they had the debate, and maybe I'll be dead wrong
on this, because right two losses are fewer, Notre Dame
is probably guaranteed the spot in the playoff run when
this whole thing was designed. But when they compare the
resumes of Miami and Notre Dame, you can sit there
and tell me, oh, yeah, Miami lost the SMU in overtime.
Speaker 7 (28:13):
They lost to Louisville.
Speaker 8 (28:14):
The metrics are so similar, so it doesn't head to
head have to come into play. And I know it's
back in August and Jeremiah loves got the football more,
and Marcus Freeman and the offense and that hands off
the ball more. But I think Miami's gonna get it
over Notre Dame if it comes down to it. And
I wouldn't have said.
Speaker 7 (28:29):
That four weeks two. I would have sten that three
weeks too.
Speaker 8 (28:30):
I want to send that two weeks ago. But that's
where I sit. After hearing Hunter yer Chick speak over
the GEM.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
I'm starting to think it might be possible if the
BYU loses and they end up back to back. I
wonder if they would flip them. I think they would,
I really do. It's interesting, especially if Duke were to
win and they're like, do we completely take one of
these powerful conferences and tell them they got nobody there?
Speaker 9 (28:52):
Well, that's the other thing too.
Speaker 3 (28:53):
It's gonna be fast to win.
Speaker 8 (28:55):
If Duke winns, you need Troy to beat James Madison
for Duke to get But if Duke Winns and James
Madison win their conference championship and then whoever wins too
late in orth Texas, think about it, we'll have two
group of five teams in the college football playoffs.
Speaker 2 (29:11):
If you would have told me that before the first season,
believed insane and you have the a SEC to blame
or thank?
Speaker 3 (29:17):
I reviewing? How reviewing?
Speaker 5 (29:18):
All right?
Speaker 3 (29:19):
Gelby, you rock?
Speaker 5 (29:19):
You know what.
Speaker 7 (29:22):
The a SEC is up for the taken. Maybe we
get a little Capel bill run next year.
Speaker 3 (29:27):
There you go, Fitty, there you go, baby.
Speaker 2 (29:29):
Now send Gelbi's cookies for that comment. Send him his cookies.
Speaker 3 (29:32):
All right, gel you rock. We'll talk to you next week.
Speaker 5 (29:34):
Man.
Speaker 8 (29:35):
Wow, this is a great call. I didn't get hung
up on thank you, guys. That's a good one.
Speaker 3 (29:38):
That is a positive one.
Speaker 2 (29:39):
See now that the Panthers are reat call cleave, clean call,
because Gelbi isn't snarky about the Panthers.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
He seems to.
Speaker 2 (29:44):
To be developing some respect for them, you know now,
so he's not Captain snark by the way, real quick,
our friend, Doc Boney, I don't know if he's your friend.
You guys argue all the time. Okay, you're good Clemson fan.
Doc has been asking me this week and I had
we have not talked about it, and I hadn't really
seen this because we were talking about teams still playing.
Oh Bone, you are you are on an epic.
Speaker 3 (30:07):
Run of not what we were kind of doing this
week that we.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
Were, or teams that were hiring coaches stuff like that.
But he has pointed out, and I just saw it
right now that the Clemson Insider dot com Bone has
been reporting this week that Garrett Riley is going to
be gone as the offense coordinator. No, I don't think
anybody else to reporting that, but that's notable. That's one
where we'll keep an eye on it now. And I'm
glad for the heads up from Doc and if that
(30:32):
does happen, we'll be all over it. But like that's
I did not. I wasn't aware of that report. That's interesting.
Who are the names? If anybody knows, who are the
names that will be linked if Garrett Riley's gone. Freddy
Kitchens I heard they really want to get Freddy Kitchens
out of UNC.
Speaker 4 (30:46):
When we come back, it's the wrap up. We get
you set for a busy weekend in sports back. I
also have some funny to tell you when we come
back about the NASCAR court trial and something funny to
happen today Sports Radio seven WFNS.
Speaker 10 (31:19):
We're seeing, of course, what the Charlotte Hornets are doing
with Conknipple so far this season, just putting the ball
in his hands. I mean the Klay Thompson comparison to
the people make to Con. I get it because it's
a shooting and all that, but Kan k Nipple's averaging
more pick and rolls per game than Clay ever did in.
Speaker 3 (31:34):
His entire career. And he's a rookie.
Speaker 10 (31:36):
Yeah, in the first month and a half of his
entire professional career. That number is just going to go
up over time. He's going to get better over time
with the ball in his hands. He's just on Jimmy
fallon the other night. Bye Bye Labello, goodbye.
Speaker 3 (31:49):
Yeah. There he is.
Speaker 4 (31:53):
Kevin O'Connor of Yahoo with more praise for con Cadipple.
Sam Vassini also has praise today his feed of Charles
Lee and Concinent Well that is the New York butcher
Chop cut of the day.
Speaker 3 (32:05):
Check him out.
Speaker 4 (32:06):
N Why Butcher Wine Bar four locations actually five counting Kerry,
but here locally dilwart anythink Cornelia's Fort Mill very soon
to bel mine again Ny Butcher Wine Bar on Instagram.
Maggott feels like every day there's some form of praise
for Continent bul somewhere in the basketball.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
No doubt, and he deserves it. And that's one of
the things I was talking to Sam Farber about on
his Hive cast this week, is I completely underestimate CON's
ability to initiate stuff off the bounce. He doesn't do
it with blazing speed, but he's so crafty and smart
he finds ways to get his shots off. I did
think he forced a little bit more the other night.
Maybe he's being told, hey be a little bit more aggressive.
(32:45):
We need a little bit more from you. He's usually
so under control. But yeah, I did. I thought he
would be a guy that would play off others, facilitating
and creating and initiating, and he to that point is
doing more initiating of the offense the ball handler on
the pick.
Speaker 4 (32:59):
And I thought he was talking about his passing the
other night, about how he passes it where guys are
supposed to be, almost like a quarterback, with anticipation, Like
he doesn't throw it like where a guy is curly
throws it to where they're supposed to be in their spot.
That's that's a very high level thing for a guy
his ate man just so savvy, man so savvy. But
but I don't know why you got to be like
(33:20):
bye bye lamette, Like I'd like to have multiple stars
if Con becomes a star. And I was wrong that,
you know, I thought he was high level role player
right of best. What if you had about what if
you had three stars playing at once?
Speaker 3 (33:32):
That would be? Is that legal?
Speaker 2 (33:34):
I mean, we all heard the stat mellow Brandon Cohn
together ninety nine percentile of offensive efficiency. It's like, how
about we dream to see that instead of oh the
Hornets have an upcome coming star, so get rid of
the other ones, Like I just, oh my god, what
if we were three stars galore here?
Speaker 3 (33:49):
But Charlotte order back.
Speaker 4 (33:51):
Interact before I forget interesting TV streaming. Note today Netflix
has purchased Warner Brothers for eighty two billion dollars, So
that's gonna be the entire Warner Brothers library, all the
films that are gonna be released, and HBO and HBO
Max also go with it. So Netflix says they're going
(34:12):
to keep HBOHBO Max like how they are, but they
can now put stuff on Netflix from HBO Max. That's
a very interesting streaming news.
Speaker 2 (34:22):
Does this mean that our Netflix subscriptions go up? That's
what I'm trying to figure out. Definitely will interesting though.
All Right, so you brought up the NASCAR trial. Some
of the things that are happening with this NASCAR trial
are either hilarious or are just like I mean, sensational,
say curb your enthusiasm scene out there. So the thing
(34:43):
I saw this yesterday, there's now a video of this.
This apparently happened at least the last two days, and
there's no video of it online. The trials here in Charlotte,
where a man the last two days at least has
played the Alan Parsons Project Songbone that the Bulls used
to use for their intro their lineup has played it
while Michael Jordan walks past him on the sidewalk to
(35:04):
go into the court room.
Speaker 4 (35:07):
And he got mad at Bob Pocras yesterday, right, MJ
did fitty He said something to him, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (35:13):
I believe so.
Speaker 6 (35:14):
Smoke sent me some video last night about him not
liking that he was getting Bob filming him walking into court.
How about how about this Smoke playing the song for MJ.
It's smoke out?
Speaker 5 (35:24):
There?
Speaker 2 (35:24):
Is that good? That's a good point. Have we ruled
Smoke out? That's a very good call. It's also getting
really nasty. It got really contentious with Denny Hamlin and
the NASCAR lawyer Bone. I mean, the future of the
sport is at stake. We're probably gonna get a guest
on next week talk about this because there's a very
compelling case that they've been a monopoly, and they have
been for decades quite honestly, but this there's gonna be
(35:46):
major ramifications one way or the other depending on how
this antitrust lawsuit between Front Row Motor Sports and twenty
three eleven goes. But listen to this one. I read
this in the Athletic article about the trial. Bone Steve
Phelps is essentially the commissioner of NASCAR. They're digging up
text messages in this trial from a lot of NASCAR
execs and team execs where they're saying not nice things
(36:07):
about the other side.
Speaker 3 (36:08):
Steve Phelps Bone.
Speaker 2 (36:11):
His text messages revealed that he said about Richard Childress,
the car owner, that he should be taken out back
and flogged, and he called him a stupid redneck who
owes his entire fortune to NASCAR. Oh my, and he
is Richard Childress is contemplating suing Steve Phelps, the commissioner
of NASCAR. So there is so much like secret stuff
that each side is saying about the other side that
(36:33):
is coming out in this trial. Like it cannot be
good for relations in the sport at all. Man, Oh
my crazy.
Speaker 4 (36:41):
By the way, I had a dream but last night
involved Mac and Michael Jordan. Last night, I guess, of course,
of course, I guess we found out somewhere that he
in the dream that he was a big fan of
the show. So he invited us out to his estate.
Definitely a dream. Michael Jordan made us Hamburgers and we
hung out there. That's a dream. Hand to God, that
(37:02):
was my dream.
Speaker 3 (37:03):
Michael.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
Being cheap you can't feed you State, that's what you're
dreaming about.
Speaker 5 (37:09):
All right.
Speaker 2 (37:09):
Let me read a couple of these FANDL text Let
me read a couple of these real quick.
Speaker 4 (37:14):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (37:14):
Someone says report Clemson now eying Juice Kiffin to fill
the role of offensive coordinator if they fired Garrett Riley.
Speaker 3 (37:21):
Going to Penn State. Also Penn State by want him
for the head coach.
Speaker 7 (37:26):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (37:26):
This texture says, as a Heels fan, I like the
Penn State coaching situation better than ours. That's close at
this point. That's how bad it's getting for Penn State.
That's close.
Speaker 5 (37:35):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (37:35):
Somebody says Fitty dresses like a cat lady. I don't
really know if I understand that, but I read it anyway.
Wearing shorts all the time. Is that what the cat
ladies were short?
Speaker 3 (37:43):
I don't know, but that's the one thing I think of.
Speaker 2 (37:45):
Somebody, Someone please explain to Fitty what a gym and
an elliptical are.
Speaker 3 (37:49):
That's from Ishmael video are you ever going to fight back?
What am I supposed to say?
Speaker 6 (37:57):
Like Lily, actually defend myself as an attack them people
I care about that go after Ishmael though you don't
know anything about him that long, like I.
Speaker 3 (38:07):
Does he have a pouch? I don't know. That's it's
hard to go back at him.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
I was in that place when he used to attack me,
and now he's moved on to you as his second pinata.
Speaker 3 (38:13):
A picture of your cheeks next time.
Speaker 2 (38:15):
How about this situation. This is a very interesting situation
in the carbone, This texture says. My son just heard
kb's blue Choo ad and said to him, blue Choo
doesn't keep you strong, right, daddy?
Speaker 5 (38:30):
I can't.
Speaker 3 (38:31):
It's funny. It's isn't that funny thinking of kids hearing
these ads. It's funny.
Speaker 2 (38:37):
My daughter heard the ad and said something to me
one time, and I don't remember what it is, but
I never brought up on the air, and I've kind
of forgot. But she took note of kb's baby making champion.
Speaker 4 (38:48):
Yeah, commercial, you gotta have to talk about the birds
in the blue shoes now when you're driving in listening
in the w f n Z Mac Kyle Bailey here
never went Mack. Like mid to late nineties, there was
a major run like on Viagra commercials that were airing,
and I never quite understood why. Most of them involved
growing to football through a tire sway. Why why I thought,
(39:11):
boy this, I remember saying, boy, this really improves your arms.
Speaker 2 (39:15):
We're about to see alice bathtubs at the lawn. Do
you have questions about that one?
Speaker 6 (39:18):
And they're in separate bathtubs, in.
Speaker 3 (39:22):
Separate bathtubs. Hold again, don't be at the same top.
So many questions, but this, why.
Speaker 4 (39:27):
Can't we make helpful commercials that makes sense?
Speaker 5 (39:31):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (39:31):
Please please? Did Jimmy Johnson do the extends commercials? Also
for the football coach Jimmy Johnson? He did?
Speaker 3 (39:37):
That was his one? That was that was his one.
And kb's got the blue shoo ads. How about damn well?
Speaker 2 (39:43):
Somebody texted and says, uh says a lot after listening
to kb's adds, a lot of parents will have to
talk to their kids about the blues and the Jews. Yeah, exactly,
I see what she did. They're birds and the bees,
blues and the chews. All right, anyway, we're out of here, bonesy,
we are out of here. I expected you to give
the a DVR Dave laugh for that one. Well, I
just kind of said the same thing a second. You
said birds and bees, he took it to blues and choose.
(40:06):
All right, good boy, I didn't give you the response
you were looking for there. Good work out of the
you've google and see Alicekammer. You used all your laughs
on DVR day, all right. Good workout of bone, Good
workout of the fit dog, except when he cussed and
had to dump himself, can happen to anybody. Great workout
of y'all hanging with us. We appreciate it. Enjoy championship weekend.
(40:26):
Good luck to do, keep it on a screwty acc
of brooting for you, and we'll talk about it all
on Monday. Colin Hocker coming up next, Ladies
Speaker 3 (40:34):
And gentlemen, the weekend
