Today's about what we're trying to accomplish. The players that
we brought in, the players that represent what we want
to bring to North Carolina. I think in our first year,
we've learned a lot about the university. We learned a
lot about the ACEC, we learned a lot about college football,
but we learned a lot about what matters in terms
of how to recruit. Recruiting is about, like scouting, is

about finding what you want. And I think this class
represents our first class represents about finding what we want
and that goes along with the Hall of Fame coach
to be able to develop the talents from within. So really,
today's a great day for all the recruits. As far
as the recruiting class looks, as coach said, it's robust,

it's big. It wasn't intended always to be that way,
but I think what a lot of things have happened
during the course of the season with coaching changes, which
opened up a lot of players to come available. It
afforded us an opportunity to capitalize on that and build
a roster. And this is the first real time that
coach and our whole staff have been able to build

a roster in a manner in which we see it fit.

That is Michael Lombardi, GM off North Carolina football talking
about a recruiting class BONE that included thirty nine new
siginees and includes thirteen five stars.

a deva deal. Thirteen four stars. That is the eighth
most four stars in the country. So there's a lot
in there. But there's a lot of four star football
players in there as well. It's seventeenth in the country
overall according to twenty four to seven. And that's Lombardi
talking about how that came to be. To have a conversation,

They're both back for another year, right, And I do
think Belchick and Lombardi deserve credit for that, for that
recruiting class, as I think Dave Doran deserves credit for

the way they finished the season. It was another year
where they didn't quit on Dave, where Dave had them
fighting through adversity and they ended up finishing strong. And
I think that's one of Dave Dorin's fortes, So I
think he deserves credit for that. But I still wonder
Bone if both fan bases have the same reaction to
the fact that these guys are back, because there was
a point in the season Bone where I'm not sure

we thought either one would be back. The Dave Dorn
retirement stuff was strong. He's kind of called people out.
Joe Gillios literally apologized to him for saying that stuff. Belichick,
I mean that that one week Bone, that one bye
week the Heels had when all those national reports came
out about chaos and stuff like. I would not have
thought that he would be back for a second year

if you were to ask me on those days. So
I want to know Tario football fans and we'll peck
football fans are either of you happy to have your
coach back, excited about these coaches and what they can do,
because it feels to me bone they're different situations.

Dorn's been there forever Belichick's first year. But I get
the feeling that neither fan base is like raw rah
over these guys, you know, being back.

I think the happiest fan base that they're back might
be the Duke fans because as the back to back
state champstle, who really cares to go to those teams
right now? But muse sattled out we had other stuff
to worry about. Max to go ask the Carolina and
Nancy State fans because Duke fans, I'm happy with them,
you want them to stay for a while.

I guess I'll start with I guess I'll talk about
the differences to them while y'all are texting in. I
do want to hear from the fans on this one
of each side, and last, Fitty, the differences are with
Dave Dorn. You know what he is as a college
football coach. He's been there, he's done that, He's consistent.
I think you know you're going to be a good program,

Bone more often than not. But I think if you're
a State fan, I don't blame you if your thoughts
are man. I wanted to believe the retirement talk. I
kind of wanted him to sail off into the sunset,
even with the way they finished the season. I've been
a big, you know, defender of Dave Dorn on this
radio show. But I don't blame State fans for being like, Okay,

I know we're really solid with him. I'd like to
try to be more than solid, because even as a
Dave Dorn defender, I feel like we know what he
is right now. Like, do you think Bone, there's a
chance we haven't seen Dave Dorn's best or do you
think we just literally know what he's going to do?
We know what his best is, and is that good
enough for State fans? That's the question that I can't answer,

only State fans can. Are you happy with the consistency
that he has? Do you want more?

Or do you also fear that if he does get
let go, maybe it's not it's consistent, maybe you dip
down further than he had. Gears Dot you kind of
know year in and year ultimately where they're going to
be by the end. It may differ by a win
or two. Hear there, the path might be different. Well,
you kind of know ultimately who you are. There is
that chance that if they did let Dorn go or

he retires, that you don't hire the right guy and
you dip down and all of a sudden you go,
you go four wins, five wins, nine wins, four wins.
Like you know, at least now there's consistency. That is
a good point. That's a point that does need to
be made. I don't want to when I say that,
part of me does feel like maybe it's time for
a change. And you see, Wolf brings up a great

point with this coaching cycle. He's glad Dave.

Staying and maybe that's part of their thought process over
there bone not just the way he finished and proved
again that this team never quits on me, right, but
maybe it is. Hey, I don't think we want to
be involved in that crazy cycle. We'll catch you next year,
see what the cycle looks like next year.

But I think your point's a good one for every
NC State fan. Seven H four number Dave Dorin has
done good work for us. We need to find someone
that will do great work for us. I understand that
I'm with you kind of. But Bone's point is a
fair one. We need to state there. It is far
from a guarantee that NC State hires a football coach
and he's as good as Dave Doran like. There is

certainly a world right to your point, where NC State
goes out there, rolls the dice, doesn't take the bird
in hand right the solid coach they know they have,
and ends up regretting it.

Sometimes when you wear fort ch ass, sometimes when you
let a coach go that you kind of know what
you're getting you you, things can happen. Sometimes we've seen
State before go through some light the searches before. So
you may let a guy go and all of a
sudden you end up and for whatever reason, you don't

lan in your top two, three, four guys you want,
and all of a sudden you have to really go.
You have to go try to figure out who you want,
and then you then the thought would be, oh, maybe
we should have just kept Dave Doran like PA's State's
thinking much the whole be careful what you ask for
a thing like any program that is at a point
where and I'm not acting like Dave dorn has, you know,
it is where Franklin was obviously right. But like if they,

if they, if there's some good and some solid there,
you're there's a risk and you're seeing Penn State, you're
seeing the risk there. Who's yours daddy's daddy is a
State fan? I did not know that, he says. I
definitely am glad Dave is staying this year. Too many
other vacancies to find a quality coach, so I stand corrected.

that away or do they also made a big investment

program to get guys in there. But when the guys

Bone and I both had the Panthers losing by double digits.
But they continue to prove that they're all over the place,
but they're also capable of big time wins. What did
you think of them pulling that off?

I think before this game up against the Rams. The
most impressive win of the season, people would probably say
was going to Green Bay and beating the Packers. I
think you can make the argument the first time up
against the Falcons just how decisive it was that being thirty.
Speaker 7 (18:00):
But this is by far and away the most impressive.
Speaker 8 (18:03):
One because you could have argued last week heading into
it that the Rams are the best team in the NFL.
And what I love the most obviously them is turner
turnovers by the Rams. But Bryce Young to Ted McMillan
late in that game. That is what a team that
is moving in the right direction needs to see from
their younger players. You have a quarterback who's been through

a lot, had his good moments, had his bad moments. Ted,
they made the big draft pick this year, them coming
through late. It's not just that they won, it's also
how they won. I was thoroughly impressed with the Carolina Pants,
so I said this about a month ago with you guys,
it's like every game now when you tune in, nothing
would deprive me. It's what I see from this team,

and you know, who knows, maybe it ends at the
end of the season where they end up winning the NFC.

them to win this out because the Bucks schedule definitely

I'm still kind of feeling like because I think they're
gonna have to sweep Tampa, because I think Tampa is
is likely to beat New Orleans and able to beat
the Falcons. And if they do, then if they just

split with us, they have the division, they will have
the division record tiebreaker. But but I thought the number
Bone and I gave out is around thirty five or
forty percent. You know, the math geeks still are giving
the Panthers like an eighteen to twenty one percent chance.

Oh that's why I never did really well in Matt's

say they probably split with Tampa, so that's gonna put

is in Carolina I would probably say that it's a
loss of Seattle, so that would put them at nine

so you've got them to.

and then, because you have time waited out and see
if Bryce has more consistency down the line.

and tell me, oh, yeah, Miami lost the SMU in overtime.

we brought in, the players that represent what we want
to bring to North Carolina. I think in our first year,
we've learned a lot about the university. We learned a
lot about the ACEC, we learned a lot about college football,
but we learned a lot about what matters in terms
of how to recruit. Recruiting is about, like scouting, is

about finding what you want. And I think this class
represents our first class represents about finding what we want
and that goes along with the Hall of Fame coach
to be able to develop the talents from within. So really,
today's a great day for all the recruits. As far
as the recruiting class looks, as coach said, it's robust,
(00:56):
it's big. It wasn't intended always to be that way,
but I think what a lot of things have happened
during the course of the season with coaching changes, which
opened up a lot of players to come available. It
afforded us an opportunity to capitalize on that and build
a roster. And this is the first real time that
coach and our whole staff have been able to build

a roster in a manner in which we see it fit.

think he deserves credit for that. But I still wonder

the fact that these guys are back, because there was
a point in the season Bone where I'm not sure

we thought either one would be back. The Dave Dorn
retirement stuff was strong. He's kind of called people out.
Joe Gillios literally apologized to him for saying that stuff. Belichick,
I mean that that one week Bone, that one bye
week the Heels had when all those national reports came

thought that he would be back for a second year

try to be more than solid, because even as a
Dave Dorn defender, I feel like we know what he

enough for State fans? That's the question that I can't answer,

But they continue to prove that they're all over the place,

I think before this game up against the Rams. The
most impressive win of the season, people would probably say
was going to Green Bay and beating the Packers. I
think you can make the argument the first time up
against the Falcons just how decisive it was that being thirty.

But this is by far and away the most impressive.

One because you could have argued last week heading into
it that the Rams are the best team in the NFL.
And what I love the most obviously them is turner
turnovers by the Rams. But Bryce Young to Ted McMillan
late in that game. That is what a team that
is moving in the right direction needs to see from
their younger players. You have a quarterback who's been through

a lot, had his good moments, had his bad moments. Ted,
they made the big draft pick this year, them coming
through late. It's not just that they won, it's also
how they won. I was thoroughly impressed with the Carolina Pants,
so I said this about a month ago with you guys,
it's like every game now when you tune in, nothing
would deprive me. It's what I see from this team,

and you know, who knows, maybe it ends at the
end of the season where they end up winning the NFC.

and then, because you have time waited out and see
if Bryce has more consistency down the line.

was eighteen, and now it's been pushed up to where

Notre Dame's ten in Miami is twelve. I think if
they had the debate, and maybe I'll be dead wrong
on this, because right two losses are fewer, Notre Dame
is probably guaranteed the spot in the playoff run when
this whole thing was designed. But when they compare the
resumes of Miami and Notre Dame, you can sit there
and tell me, oh, yeah, Miami lost the SMU in overtime.

of the things that are happening with this NASCAR trial

there's no video of it online. The trials here in Charlotte,
where a man the last two days at least has

this in the Athletic article about the trial. Bone Steve
Phelps is essentially the commissioner of NASCAR. They're digging up
text messages in this trial from a lot of NASCAR
execs and team execs where they're saying not nice things

His text messages revealed that he said about Richard Childress,
the car owner, that he should be taken out back
and flogged, and he called him a stupid redneck who

of NASCAR. So there is so much like secret stuff
that each side is saying about the other side that
