Speaker 1 (00:00):
Peter Burns ESPN SEC Network, ESPN Radio joins us here
on the mac en Bone Show. Its a college football
and I have a feeling Bill Belichick will come up.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Peter, what's going on? How you bad man?
Speaker 3 (00:13):
I'm Ron Burgundy. You know, like.
Speaker 4 (00:17):
I mean, I don't know if you could know this,
but San Diego is German.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
Wow. Actually, that's the only.
Speaker 4 (00:21):
Time I've ever gotten in trouble in twenty years doing
radio is when I when I gave that line. After
the week it came out, and when I was in
San Antonio, Texas. I was in a flagship station for
the Spurs.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
And the Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (00:32):
The anchorman had just come out and somebody said, yeah,
we're playing San Diego the Chargers next week, and I go,
interesting fact about San Diego, it's actually German. For Yeah,
I didn't go over well with the suits.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
We'll say that.
Speaker 5 (00:46):
Hey, I appreciate that. I appreciate what you did. That
was it was such a freer world back then, Peter.
You get sell whatever you want to do on radio.
Now you get in trouble for saying stuff like that.
Oh the good old days.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
Seems like it seems like Bill Belichick send some Trouble,
Peter and Chapel Hill, the ports of the dysfunction behind
the scenes, and now you know dueling reports saying the
university has begun looking for exis strategies, and there's another
one out there saying the Pelichick's actually said, hey, maybe
we could talk by out and get the heck out
of here and just ended it. What I mean, what
(01:17):
did you what did you say that?
Speaker 2 (01:18):
What do you think about it? In Trouble?
Speaker 4 (01:20):
I mean, he basically got like a six months kind
of fun little vacation up there at Chapel Hill and
robbed the bank and he's gonna.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
Get some money out of it.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
I mean crazy, Listen, this was I I get it.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
This comes off the heels of Dion having the success
at Colorado. But the difference was was that Dion had players,
and Dion had been a part of the college world
over at.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
Jackson State, and then all of a sudden he gets.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
The Colorado and you know, and they try to use
that same that same deal and and I've seen this
before in athletic department, a lot of it at over
at Auburn, you know, whereas you've got a bunch of
warring factions, you got reasons, you got boosters, you got
an e D. And they don't know nobody sees on
the same page, and all of a sudden, it's chaos.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
And I think that's what happens right here. And ultimately,
I don't know if anybody's done more to damage their
unbelievable career and legacy more than Bill Belichick did in
this decision to try to go up to UNC and
capture some success.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Fum there here.
Speaker 5 (02:18):
What's been the most fascinating element of the Belichick or
chapel Bill as we call them, the saga that he's
gone through. Is it the the Jordan Hudson stuff? Is
it how bad the team is? Is it just his
lack of general it seems interest in coaching?
Speaker 2 (02:33):
What what to you?
Speaker 5 (02:35):
Are you thinking, Wow, I can't believe I'm seeing this
at a Bill Belichick.
Speaker 4 (02:38):
They had Ludacris rap it at ten am.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
Ludacris rap it at ten am. I mean they're bringing
in rappers and I mean just I mean, I guarantee you.
Speaker 4 (02:47):
I mean, I wonder who what you know what other
rappers Bill Belichick wanted?
Speaker 3 (02:51):
You know on that list.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
It's it's sad, but you know what's gonna happen, is
that we're going to come back.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
And when you when you look at this and you
guys are talking about this a.
Speaker 4 (03:00):
Year from now or five years from now, it's going
to be the girlfriend's situation. And I mean that that
to me to see one of the like the most
strong armed men in all of the history of sports,
and the way Belichick handled himself by that you know,
sixty minutes piece where they cut to her and like
we're not talking about that, which gave us one of
the greatest radio soundbites of all times. By the way,
(03:21):
that's the brutal part of it, guys, And it's just
it's just a shame. But you know, we look at
you know, North Carolina now, is hey more than likely.
I think there's a lot of tee lea's that say
they could be a future SEC team, and I think
they were trying to get a bunch of a little
momentum about that, and that's not happening now with with Belichick,
(03:42):
or it probably won't happen. And so now they've got
to find someone because I don't think that there's a
way that you saved this by any means.
Speaker 5 (03:49):
I hope Peter that he does have a list like
on his laptop of early two thousands rappers that he's
eyeing up for the new I'm really like it. Marshall,
Marshall Mathers is available. I'd like to know who else.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
Is on now? Who turned him down? Peter who didn't
do the concert.
Speaker 4 (04:05):
I think he probably went with DMX and realized that
DMX had passed away a couple of years ago, and
so I mean, you know, I think he was going
to look at maybe fat Joe, like out fat Joe
was kind of like medium Joe.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
I think he went on a zimpig Joe. So there's
you know, I'd really like to know that was That
was my first question.
Speaker 4 (04:21):
Last thing on this My first question was after they
got killed in that second game or whatever, I was like,
do they did him and his girlfriend ride home in
the same car? And like what do they talk about?
Like what what is like who picks the music? I'm
just it's.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
So so many questions.
Speaker 4 (04:37):
The fact that I'm even thinking of these questions when
we're talking about Bill Belichick means.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
This whole thing.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
And and I thought we would get all those questions
answered on a Hulu show, But now we find out
that's that's been canceled too. All right, let's talk CC
Peter Burns, SEC Network, ESPN. I love the balance in
the SEC this season. And question that is fun to
kick around is who do you think is the best
(05:04):
team in this conference when it's all said and done
right now? Because it ain't easy to say, Man, it's fun.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
What do you think?
Speaker 4 (05:10):
Well, I mean, that's what we talk about in the
NFL for the longest time. Is all right, there's teams
that look good. I mean, right now, the biggest, the
best A plus game I've seen from anybody is is Alabama.
And I can't believe I'm saying that after they got
shoved in the locker against FSU.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
But they're that good right now.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
But they're in a tricky game against Missouri, who hasn't
really played anybody right now. I haven't seen that thing
from Georgia.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
I will tell you this. I'm fascinted about the A
and M.
Speaker 4 (05:35):
And Florida game this week because I think top to bottom,
if Marcel read that quarterback at A and M figures
it out, I think A and M is not only
the best team in the SEC, but maybe the country.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
That team is absolutely legit.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
They're just it's just misfiring a little bit from the
quarterback situation. And frankly, I'm fascinated about this LSU South
Carolina game and in Tiger Stadium, LSU coming off of
buy to see if they got their offen ready or
if Lenora Sellers is going to get revenge in the
game that they were robbed. I mean, they were robbed
at that game last year at Williams Bryce. They should
have won it by the reps. So that's that was
(06:09):
a fascinating.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
One, Peter.
Speaker 5 (06:11):
Speaking of Williams Bryce, the game Cocks have just one
of the most ridiculous stretches ever, coming up five ranked
teams in a row. The lowest ranked team in that
stretch they play this weekend number eleven LSU. Is there
any way they can survive this stretch and'd be okay?
Or does it appear like, at least on paper, that
this could be a disaster for the game Cocks right now?
Speaker 4 (06:33):
I mean, again, I love what Shane Biemer and he's
I mean, I love that dude.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
Man. He fights for his.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
Guys, and he said it yesterday. He goes, listen, if
I got anybody's on my on my roster. That's complaining,
Like why the hell did you come to South Carolina?
Like you knew when you came here you're going to
play the best of the best. And I mean that's
what really fires me up when I go look at
Oregon schedule and they play like the Amish School of Technology,
then like Rutgers Tech. Uh. Like this, it goes to
(07:00):
show you the difference between the SEC schedule and the
and the Big Ten schedule. It's a joke right now.
Speaker 3 (07:04):
So it's tough.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
I mean you go, you go two and three? I mean,
hell are you got three and two right now? They
ought to just throw a damn parade because of this schedule.
But that's what you're going to get. And by the way, guys,
is only going to get tough for next year when
we go to nine conference games as opposed to eight
here in this league.
Speaker 5 (07:20):
We've got to call this School of Technology was my
safety school?
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Pias, Yeah, you would look good in a By the way,
we gotta go. We got Kurt online two who wants
to talk to you. Mister Signetti from Indiana says, so
is SEC schedules aren't anything?
Speaker 4 (07:38):
Hey, I will say this, I've given a bunch of
hell to Kurt Signetti, that team this year is real.
It kind of reminds me of like when U c
F was like, oh look we're we're the real champs
and stuff like that. Like this fake Bravado, This Indiana
squad with Mendoza quarterback is actually real.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
I think they're good enough to finish like seventh in
the SEC.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
Take that, Kurt, take that Kurt Online two. Anyway, what's so?
The Arch Manning situation has been one that's so polarizing.
I kind of feel bad for him. I went from
in the summer kind of feeling like, man, we're hyping
him up too fast. Here he only had the two starts,
and then he even said that to y'all on the
SEC Network and SEC media days, And now I kind
(08:18):
of feel bad for him because, you know, and he's
not even getting any help from the line last week
in the Swamp either.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
The run game's been disappointing. What do you think?
Speaker 1 (08:28):
What's the best When then he gets his column in
The Athletic written about him, calling him the first college
football flop or some bs. What do you think about
the arch situation right now?
Speaker 3 (08:37):
Well?
Speaker 4 (08:37):
I was gonna say I remember watching Djungla and I
was like, ah, maybe Stop might have been one of those.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Yeah, come on serious, I don't.
Speaker 4 (08:46):
I do feel a little bad because there was undue
pressure on him because it was kind of like this
Taylor Swift faction where everybody wanted to attach their name.
I remember Paul Finebaum saying He's gonna be the greatest
quarterback since since life existed, right, And I think that
was unfair because a lot of people tried to get
into the algorithms of how good art was and then
now everybody wanted to crap on them. And really a
(09:07):
lot of it is his offensive line and a stude
point because if you watch the film, he's making some plays,
but he just doesn't.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
Have time to do it.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
But then again, I mean, listen, he's got two Commas
in his annual salary right now. And I say salary
because that's what these guys are getting paid to do,
so listen. I think the question more so is why
it's Sarks who's looked at his brilliant play caller not
putting those guys in more way to have success. And
I don't think they have it this week, and against
the Oklahoma defense.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
That's going to be incredible in a big rivalry game.
Speaker 5 (09:38):
Peter, a Tennessee fan on our text, I was asking
your thoughts on then. They are a very low ranked
SEC team at number twelve in the country right now,
but we haven't talked a lot about them lately.
Speaker 4 (09:48):
They might beat Bobby Patrino by eleventy hundred this week.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
They're coming off a bye.
Speaker 4 (09:54):
Patrino rolls in there with the motorcycle firing as defensive coordinator,
and I mean we might see the neck brace after
this game.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
Again, guys, this is this is Tennessee.
Speaker 4 (10:05):
All I mean, Tennessee should be able to put up
I'd be surprised that they don't put up fifty five
double nickel on them.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
All Right, So we got to talk about Georgia. Georgia
just kind of kind of and I know, I know
Bama got them in their house and jumped on them early,
but I still and I'm not saying it's certainly not
vintage Kirby smart team, but I still kind of feel
like george is one of the best in the SEC.
Do you think they're a playoff team or do you
kind of look at Georgia and feel feel like they
could they could have enough losses in this conference as
(10:33):
good as it is to miss out.
Speaker 4 (10:35):
Yeah, I mean I can see that because there's so
many good teams. I mean, and then this is like
a This is like a perfect synopsis of SEC football
this year that I don't think Auburn is great, but
you're catching Auburn off of by. You're catching them at
home at night at Jordan here, which is an incredibly
tough place to play.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
And I think Georgia is leaky. They've got holes right now.
Speaker 4 (10:56):
I mean that the offensive line is banged up, they're
not getting the pass rush. I mean, you know, Nil
in a weird way killed the Georgia Bulldogs because before
he used to be able to stack talent like Nick
Saban was where he could have you know, five wide
or five deep of NFL players. And because they're ready,
wanted to play at Georgia. Well, now that that that parody,
(11:17):
everybody wants to play other places so they can start
and get their money. So I'll tell you what, this
is a coin flip game. I'm not even touching any
of a prediction on this one, because chaos happens over
at Auburn every single year.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
That is true. That is very very true. All right,
Well you got some fun ones this week. We talked
about appreciate you joining us, man, thanks for coming on.
And I was gonna try that Ron Burgundy line later today,
but ed, yeah, I'm glad you told me your story.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
I think I'm gonna lay off that one. You know,
there's no touching of the hair.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
No touching of the hair.
Speaker 5 (11:46):
Someone just called me that on the text line, So
this is going. Well, there we go, there you go,
see you, brother, Thanks so much, man, you gotta bo
