Speaker 1 (00:00):
She had a quick a amazing follow on Twitter, great
coverage of the Carolina Panthers, and she joins us here
on the Mac and Bone Show. Sheena, what's going on?
How you doing?
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Good morning? How are you guys doing?
Speaker 1 (00:13):
What's up? Sheena? We're doing good. We're doing good. So
when yesterday you were in the locker room and you're
talking with these guys, and you're talking to Coach Canalis,
Bryce as well, it seems like they all want to say,
or most of them, especially Bryce and Coach Canalis, want
to say, ah, this is another game. Do you believe them?
Because I can't imagine those guys aren't going to have
(00:34):
extra butterflies with what and they should like Do you
think they really have themselves convinced this is just another game? Shena.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
Honestly, they need to They need to convince themselves that.
I mean, you know, the thing that irritates a lot
of people about this team is the inconsistency. You know,
you go to Intulambeau, you beat a team with one loss,
you come back home and lose to a team with
one wins. So I do think that it is important
for them to not get too too high on this game.
(01:02):
Of course, fans they're like, oh my god, we haven't
been in this position in such a long time, and
it's I'm trying to find a way to describe it.
I think that they know the gravity of the situation,
but they're trying to not be too emotionally charged, and
I feel like that is what caused these disappointing losses
after huge wins from them so far this season. So
(01:22):
to me, I felt like the bye week came at
the perfect time. I know it's late in the season,
but it came after a huge, huge Rams win, and
I feel like they needed that week to kind of recenter, refocus,
and actually be able to be ready to go down
into New Orleans and take care of business.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
Gina, how much did the Saints beating the Bucks last
week increase your worry level with this game? And also
does that end up maybe helping the Panthers that they
just saw again what the Saints are capable of.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
I think this is what you said last. I think
that they saw that what these what the States are
capable of. This is three and ten team, but they're
three and ten because of inconsistency, not because they're just
downright trash. Obviously, they came into Bank of America who
one by ten. They have a good defense. They have
a lot of bets on this defense. They have a
top ten passing defense. I want to say, a top
(02:11):
ten overall deep.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
Well, no, they're twelve. There's just a lot, but.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
They're just outside the top ten total defense. But I
do think that it's important as an important reminder, although
I don't think the Panthers needed too many reminders, being
that they just lost to these guys five weeks back.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
Yeah, no doubt this what You're right, This is a reminder.
But if they don't, if they if they don't remember
what the Saints did to them, that would be a problem.
We're talking with Sheena quick Talk of Carolina Panther football
tied for first place. Huge NFC South games for both
the Bucks and the Panthers over these next few days. Sheena,
what do you do you feel like I mean, I
(02:49):
feel like they have to Coach Canalis has to have
kind of learned his lesson about the run game and
just you have to stick with it. Do you do
you feel confident in saying that from here on out,
this team will stay committed to the run or do
you still have this fear that many Panther fans have
that you know, we still could get in a game
(03:09):
and end up you know, it doesn't work early and
we abandoned it. I mean, what do you think about that?
Speaker 2 (03:14):
I think that Monday Night football game was glaring. I
think it was glaring. Yeah, the Panthers were on the spotlight.
They had a perfect golden opportunity to show them the world,
or the or the nation at least that this isn't
the same old Panthers team because a lot of these
a lot of people, a lot of analysts are still
kind of using the same old lazy narrative and lazy
takes because they're not really watching this team. Monday Night
(03:36):
Football puts the eye squarely on the Panthers and the
ways that game was called. I think was a wake
up call to Dave Canalos. Oh see, because when they
came back and played the Rams, totally different teams, totally
different games plan.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
Yeah, yeah, you're right. I think when he came out
and told y'all the very next day already raised his
hand and said that was on me. I didn't run
the ball. Yeah, maybe that's sunk in for good. I hope,
I hope she and as you are as well.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
We're talking so much about the defensive improvement this year,
the job of Aro's DoD You know, Derek Brown gets
a lot of credit on the return. Obviously Horn gets
a lot of credit. Well, what has Trayvon Mehrigg when
he's in there? Not suspended for the game, But what
is Trayvon Mehrigg and his tone, stending, ability, and attitude
meant for this defense here in twenty twenty five.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
I think it's huge. You know, he is a hard
hitting stafety. You know when he does have to go
back and coverage, there's some confidence there. Like I know
that in going into the season, the secondary was an
area of concern mainly because of depth. Mainly because of depth,
so they needed Trayvon Merrick to work out and he's
done that in a huge way, which made his absence
(04:46):
against the Rams all that more concerning. But you know,
we ended up seeing what happened. I do think that
he's an unarrolded member of this defense. But when you
have fars like Jacy Horn, you have far as like
Mike Jack is emerging as well. I thought that's who
you were about to talk about and Darry Brown. You know,
sometimes Mary gets lost in the sauce a little bit,
but you know that his impact is felt when he's
(05:07):
in there, like he's not one of those guys he's
running around doing cardio. You're wondering, Okay, what are our
safeties doing. You know he's in the game. He's impact
in the game. I think that he's most efficient closer
to the line of scrimmage, which is where he likes
to play. Which ever, Ro's deepens, you know, caters to that,
and that's why he's seeing so much success.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
If you Sena, do you like, deep down inside right,
do you believe? Let's get to the soul of Sena
quick here, all right, let's get deep inside your mind,
your soul. Do you believe because Bone and Fidia both
said they think now the Panthers are winning the division
where I'm maybe more paranoid, like because you talked about it.
(05:46):
They haven't been consistent, and I just I'm like, not
sure they're ready for it yet. Do you believe the
Panthers are winning this thing? What's what's your feeling?
Speaker 2 (05:56):
I think they are. I think the South has been
there for the take for a long time, But I
think it's gonna come down to Week eighteen in Sample.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
Yeah, I think it's.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
Gonna come down in Week eighteen in Tampa. And it's
so crazy because the last time that they were in
that exact position is when See Wolf was the interim.
It's gonna be had Tom Brady In my heavens, that's true.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
There'll be no CJ. Henderson in a Panther uniform. There'll
be no there'll be no Tom Brady. That's the good series.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
Taylor really really sad, really sad to see Mac fall
down the list of Pander supporters this season.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
I feel like this is amazing. I asked people of that.
So many people think they're gonna do it. I yeah,
I feel I think it's.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
It's warranted. I think your trepidation is warranted. I think
your skepticism is warranted because that's what this team has done.
But I do think that finally they're learning to win,
and that's I mean, I know that sounds very, very cliche,
but if you look back at these five one seasons,
with Ron Rivera's last season, with even Matt Rules seasons,
they were losing these games by one score or one possession,
(06:59):
no getting blown out every every week. I mean, they
had the blowout sprinkled in there, but they were always
like in the hunt. But what you're seeing now with
this team, I think Dave Canals is what ten and four?
Speaker 1 (07:09):
Ten and four game?
Speaker 2 (07:11):
Yeah, and one score game. So you're starting to see
a culture ship. You're starting to see a turning of
the tie. And I always say that favor smiles upon winners.
So some of those, you know, calls that might have
gone the other way, some of those exposed to plays
that might have gone the other way, are finally going
the way of the Panthers. And I do think that
that's very important to note, very important to note when
(07:32):
those games are close. Like Bright showing, he made a
quote last season he said, as long as there's bounding distance,
this team believes. And you're starting to see that come
to fruition this season. And do I think that they
blow everybody out here on out? No, But I think
that this is a team with the capabilities to go
for and on in this last stretch, I've seen three
on one.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
That's the thing with them is if you tell me, Sheena,
they beat everybody, I'm like, Yeah, they're capable of doing that.
Look what they did in the Rams, Look what they
did in Green Bay. But then if you told me
they lose it again to the Saints, like I'd be like, huh,
I wouldn't be you know, I'd be like, oh, there
they go again. But you're right when they when they
get in tight games, they finish them. You know, they're
six and one in the one score games this year.
You know, it's good point.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
It's important to note that the States are a division
divisional rival, so there's always that that era of familiarity.
Those division games are always, I mean they're always. I mean,
look look at what they did to the Bucks last
last week, even though I don't think that the world
the Bucks the world beaters like everybody was trying to
proclaim them to be. But that's another story. Yeah, those
divisional games like it's any given Sunday, and it truly
(08:35):
is it truly is. You cannot pencil in a win automatically.
I don't think in any division.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
Really, no, no, no doubt, no doubt. It's crazy league.
That's why we love it. And the Panthers are right
up there among the craziest. But man, they're up there
first place too. U Sena Quick, y'all. If you're not
following her on Twitter, y'all are doing it wrong. As
panther fans at Sena two e's at Shena Underscore Marie
three on Twitter and shan't afraid to take on some
(09:00):
dang negative Naysean fans either. God bless you, Sheena for that.
You police in some of these fools. Sheena, I like that,

like it. It gets me fired up, all right, Sheina,

Speaker 2 (09:18):

Speaker 1 (09:19):
