Speaker 1 (00:25):
You know, I got a lot of flack when I
made this the two o'clock song on the West and
Walker Show back when I was in the middays.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
They still hate you for it.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
It was embraced when I took it to the mornings
and moved it to nine forty five. But I think
the I think the listeners expect to hear piano man
on a Friday. Doesn't matter when, where, what time they expect.
They expect Billy Joel to show up and play piano
man so sharp. You did a great job on Tuesday,
(00:55):
an adequate job today up until now.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Really good job by you. Was it expecting it?
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:02):
So this is basically him saying that he is not
enjoyed the music that you have been playing, which is
a direct shot across the bow right there.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
That's that's fine. It's tough.
Speaker 4 (01:11):
Yeah, I didn't think Fiddie has has the best music
taste in the world anyway.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
I mean, that's a good point.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
It's a lot of the same music, yeah, I mean.
Speaker 4 (01:17):
And this is the song that he chose to send
people off to the weekend too, which isn't a great
one either.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Oh, it's his best the hot take. Oh and there's
nothing better, but the text line handled that. So I
don't know if it's bad. He's got some really good songs.
What's better hypothetically, Well, I mean again facts now this
(01:44):
could actually be proven because you've got.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
A number of times that a song has been downloaded
or the.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
Uh how much? I mean, we didn't start the fires
got to be up there.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
It's good.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
That's that's gotta be up there. The Longest Time is
also a tremendous song from him that that's probably my favorite.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
I think he's just in the category where he doesn't
have anything bad like he he has great Yeah, I
mean he has then he has goods.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
I would agree with that. So I'm shocked that you've
taked that you took to Billy Joel as much as
you did, because Billy Billy Joel is more of a
Northeastern uh singer, Like most people in the Northeast love him,
but people down here there's.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
There's not usually as much respect for him.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
I like it though, well, I mean, I think he
might be the rare like nice guy from the Northeast.
I mean, I don't know, I've never met the guy,
but he normally ain't me, so he does, only he
doesn't give off like the vibes that most people from
the Northeast give off.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
So Big Cat Dan, Nope, don't like it.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
Panther Dell says that piano Man is is his butt.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Oh yo, geez, come on man.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
Eurovision Man says, you see from Italian restaurants better. Cornelius
Robb says, I still hate it every time. I again,
I don't say that you like hearing it.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
I just think our listeners are trained to hear it.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
And as long as I'm here, god willing for the
next twenty five thirty years, you will hear it every Friday,
depending on what timeslot I'm working at, because that's the
Friday song.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
Is Piano Man. Sports Radio ninety two seven w f
n Z.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
We'll hear from you guys on the fan dual text line,
get back to some Panther talk. Well, didn't want to reiterate,
you know, Derek Brown not making the Pro Bowl and
then kind of just maybe like do like a little
projection for like, who are some other guys on the
defensive side of the ball and the offensive side of
the ball. Because jac Horn the only official Panther selected
(03:54):
to the Pro Bowl, I t Mac and I think
there was one other one that we're listed as as
alternates for this year's Pro Bowl. But you know, we
were kind of talking about this back in the beginning
of the show, and it just really came down to
we just believed that it was like a small market
bias as to why Derek Brown, as productive a defensive
(04:15):
lineman that the NFL has had when he's been healthy
the last two to three years, you know, doesn't get
the respect he deserves. The fans did their job, The
fans did as much as they could to get him in,
but when it came to the coaches of the players
part of the voting, there was no love there for
Big old ninety five.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
That's the thing that's just crazy to me, is you
would figure that he would be a guy that would
be respected around the league, But you know, when it
comes to the players, didn't we have this conversation a
few years ago when he wasn't in the top one
hundred alongst players. I don't understand, is is there something
that we just don't understand about him? Is there vitriol
(04:56):
towards him in the league? Is is it jealous? I
don't understand, But the players do not seem to have
that high of an opinion on him, and so I
think that's ultimately what hurts. I mean, the coaches probably
are similar. I just think that a lot of people
just don't think of Carolina because yeah, it is a
smaller market, it's a team that's been irrelevant for a while,
(05:20):
but it still doesn't make it right when you have
the type of years that we're seeing Derek Brown put together.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
He should be making the Pro Bowl.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
But it's why I said earlier, I don't put as
much stock into the Pro Bowl anymore. Like, yes, part
of it is because the game isn't played, but also,
I mean, dude, when you when you have all these
guys that end up opting out and then you continue
to name guys until you get enough to play, like
you you really lost the plot for me when Snoop
(05:50):
Huntley was a Pro bowler, like that took all the
air out of that being any sort of significant thing.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
Like we used to look at it.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
We would go by you know, people's resumes, like when
we would debate, you know, Tom Brady and Joe Montana,
we debate how many Pro Bowls did they make? And
all this kind of stuff. Now, the only thing that
matters is All Pro. If you don't make All Pro,
we're not having that conversation about you.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
Well, I also think and maybe this is something that
you did, you and I disagree on I don't know.
I think it's really good to see where Shoppy is
on this. Like, the Pro Bowl never mattered to me
growing up in terms of wanting to watch the game.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
Like I U interested, I was to tune in.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
I always wanted to see my guys get voted to
it because I thought it was a great way of
like recognition around the league about what your guys, you know,
were able to achieve. But did I sit there and
watch the Pro Bowl.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
I did not.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
I mean, like it would probably make its way onto
the television because there's usually nothing on that time of
the year, But it wasn't something that you know, I
seek to that I wanted to watch. So like, while
I wanted my guys to get selected to the Pro Bowl,
it's not something that I would sit down and watch
as opposed to, you know, until the like the NBA
(07:11):
All Star Game, until the last five years or so,
I would still seek that out. The MLB All Star
Game is the best All Star game in sports because
it's the closest to the actual game on the field.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
Well, and that one used to matter that so there
was a lot on the line. You would watch it
just in case your team was good, which I mean,
for me with the Mets, was not very often. But
still the states were so high that the game was entertaining,
you know, for the most part, even though there wasn't
anything on the line, at least from what I can remember.
(07:43):
Maybe they did give them monetary bonuses if they ended
up winning.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
The old version of the Pro Bowl was still interesting.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
I mean you saw final scores that were like sixteen
to thirteen, like guys were legitimately playing. So I always
used to tune in because it was always the week
in between the NFC and AFC championship games and the
Super Bowl. So you would have that week and you
were like, all right, we'll tune into this, We'll check
it out. You know, it's not gonna be the greatest
(08:10):
football you're ever going to see, but hey, I get
to see my guys. I was always excited to see,
you know, the giants players that would make it, and
even when I was younger, some of the Panther players
that would make it.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
So yeah, I used to tune in.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
There were times I did that for sure, but now yeah,
it's just I mean, you know what, you're voting on
guys to go play dodgeball and flag football like and
it's no offense to flag football, but how serious are
they even taking that? Like these are professional NFL players,
so I don't know how much. And and there guys
(08:43):
that don't want to get injured, so they're probably going
at you know, a half speed to make sure that
they take care of their bodies. It just there's there's
nothing about it that interests me anymore. Now. I know,
for like some of the younger generation, the young kids
probably like it, but I mean, well I was talking
more of you know, the young Hoggarts might be tuning
(09:06):
in and are excited to watch it, but yeah, I don't.
I don't see. I don't put that much value in
it anymore. So I get it why you're a little
bit angry that Derek Brown.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
Doesn't make it.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
But at the same time, there's no need to be
heartbroken because it just now it almost feels inauthentic the
way that they picked some of these Pro bowlers I
was also just thinking, like if you were projecting forward
on the defensive side of the ball. I think all
three of us in this room really high on Nick Gorton.
He was he was freaking sensational against Tampa Bay on Sunday,
(09:42):
and I'm excited to see how he follows that up
in this game against against Seattle. Like I think, you know,
when you're trying to find out who it could be
future Pro bowlers, I think you think at some point
it would be dB. I think Nick Gordon might be
the only other guy on the defensive side of the
that you could maybe have that kind of faith in,
because like I like Trevin Wallace, do I see like
(10:04):
Pro Bowl potential out of him?
Speaker 2 (10:06):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (10:08):
Jc's already. I mean maybe Trayvon Merrick maybe maybe that
was the other name that popped into my head. But
also how old is he? I don't even remember. I mean,
but he's been in the league for a little bit now,
so you figured he would probably have made one by
this point if he was gonna make one. Now, maybe
I'm wrong. Maybe he gets better as his career goes
(10:28):
along and then we see him sneak in there.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
But yeah, there's not.
Speaker 3 (10:32):
There's not a lot of guys that you look at
and say, maybe they end up making a Pro Bowl.
I would say Scorton's a good one man, just because
I mean, if anything, you should love the motor that
he brings to the game.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
I mean, the dude never turns it all.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
He's also just scratching the servers of what he can
be at the NFL level. Yes, I think there are
more options on the offensive side of the ball. Bryce
t Mac, I think those are two guys that you
clearly look at and say you could see them making.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
A Pro Bowl.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
Probably no one in the tight end room, the running
backs because of the way that they get you know,
distributed the carries. I don't know, and I don't know
if it's fair to say that, like the lack of
Pro Bowl representation might be the best way to talk
about maybe the lack of talent or depth that exists
on the roster, because as you mentioned, the all pro
(11:28):
stuff matters more than the Pro Bowls. Like, if Derek
Brown's not a Pro Bowl, there's gonna be all pro guy.
Then answers No, I think.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
I don't know. If he ends up being he's going
to be interesting.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
Does he get both.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
Like, I think it's gonna be really interesting because if
you have a voter that lives and dives by the
advanced metrics, the advanced metrics don't love him as much
as your naked football. I would suggest to you that
he's one of, you know, the best corners this league
has to offer right now.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
Yeah, I mean the thing is is that, unfortunately for him,
he has given up four hundred and forty seven yards
and coverage this year and five touchdowns. There are numbers
that are close to where Mike Jackson is Mike Jackson
four to seventy nine allowed, I believe, and four touchdowns,
but he's been so opportunistic get taken the ball away.
(12:22):
I mean, he has five interceptions, and we know that
interceptions really do speak to people. So maybe he ends
up getting both. I certainly, look, I'm not someone that
reads into the grades. I mean, you look at last week.
This is a dude that graded out with a sixty
one coverage grade. He wasn't targeted the whole game. How
(12:42):
you give him a sixty one? That doesn't make any sense.
He should be I want to add, you know, in
the eighties or nineties for his coverage grade, but for
some reason, since he wasn't targeted, they leave it at
sixty one. It's just it's a weird way that they
measure certain things, and so I don't read into that
(13:03):
stuff like the overall grade. I don't read into but
some of those advanced statistics that I told or some
of the statistics that we wouldn't know that i'd told
you about how many yards he's allowed in coverage and
how many pass breakups he has. He has two so
far this year, which is lower than some of the
numbers around the league, some of the better players around
(13:24):
the league. But still, I think there's a conversation for
him to be an All Pro. But I think he
might even come up short of that just a little bit.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
I'd love to hear you think Wes Bryant would scoff
When you get a Wes Bryant scoff sound effective, jc's
all pro? Oh probably, Well, what would Wes Bryant scoff
sound like? Because min just a.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
Very I think I think a yeah, he would just
pass it off like it's nothing.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
He would say that, you know.
Speaker 3 (13:56):
For some reason, JC, they they they didn't read the
number correctly.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
We'll see I mean you think Walker makes any noises
like that with his mouth? Why just asking a question
like why why that specific question exactly?
Speaker 2 (14:15):
Thank you? I mean do you see Walker getting that?
Speaker 3 (14:19):
I guess moved by a topic Walker, So where he's
going to like audibly make a noise. So what I've noticed,
and I wonder if you noticed this similar? But no,
he he goes, he goes with this incredibly high pitch.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
I don't know that he goes.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
There's something he's done it before. There's there's sound effects
in my folder. I think that's him where he has
new high pitched stuff. Like at one point he said
he was going through a draft and he was talking
about Marcel Darius for some reason. He was like Marcel
Darius was all right, he goes to those Willie p octaves.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
So I don't know, I don't know why he gets
up there. No one can touch my octaviy o.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
But that's that's that's one of the things that he does.
So I think, yeah, we would have that nothing beat.
This was Monday and they J. C. Horn gets brought
up by Wes Walker, I mean three seconds of dead
air and just goes, we're really gonna do this today.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
Well, no, So, I mean, look Walker, Walker is fighting
the good fight for j C. Horn.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
He's also fighting the good fight for Derek Brown, and
I think we're in his corner on both of those
where we believe that these are some really good players
that both deserve some sort of recognition. I to me,
I was just I'm stunned that Derek Brown is not
the representative.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
Yeah, because I think he's having a better season than JC.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
So do I Kawhi laugh with maybe the best text
of the day. Okur is a little suspect, And yeah
he's more suss. He's more than just a little get
to know him a little lot better. He's he's a
major suss. But we're glad to have him here at
Sports Radio ninety two to seven w fn Z. When
we come back, we're gonna put together the victory formula.
Speaker 3 (16:15):
How do the Panthers beat the Seahawks.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
We'll talk about that next right here on Sports Radio
ninety two seven wfn Z. Two more segments to go
(16:39):
here on the young Guns. We're piling in for Mack
and Bone. Sports Radio ninety two seven wfn Z has
time to put together the victory formula for Sunday's game
at home against Seattle. Believe it or not, it's already
the final home game of the season, and there is
a scenario where the Panthers could clinch the NFC South
(17:00):
if they beat the Seahawks and the Bucks were to
lose to Miami, the Panthers would win the NFC South
going into the final week of the regular season. But
as we talked about earlier, depending on how other results
around the league could play out, the Panthers still could
find themselves as the three seed in the NFC playoffs.
But it's one game at a time, and the next
(17:22):
game is the most important game. It's the biggest game
because income's big bad Seattle. They're the number one seed
right now in the NFC. They're an old foe, an
old time rival of the Panthers, back from the early
twenty tens when it was Cam and Russell Wilson going
at it good, the Legion of Boom, the Keikley, just
(17:43):
some fantastic football games that were played. And maybe this
is the second birth of that rivalry. Maybe these are
two teams that are ploys to do battle for the
next you know, five, maybe six, seven years or so.
I think a lot of Panther fans would enjoy doing or.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
Being up part of that.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
Russell Vermont writes, and we beat the Seahawks using the
same formula we beat the Rams. Will take the air
out of the ball, limit Seattle's possessions, and take care
of the football. We have to play mistake free and remember, y'all,
this is the week we're supposed to lose per this year,
win one, lose one, time to break the cycle. When
(18:21):
you look at the first key to the formula for
beating Seattle, what stands out well.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
I think one of the big things that you've got
to be able to do in this game is you've
got to be able to pressure Sam Darnold, get him
off of his game. We've seen it before. You go
back to the game earlier in the season against the
Rams through four interceptions in that game. Now, do you
have to get him to throw four interceptions? Probably not,
But if you can get a turnover or two off
(18:48):
of him, I think that really changes the game for
the Carolina Panthers.
Speaker 2 (18:53):
I think that's gonna be one of the main things.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
Even if you don't create a turnover, can you just
throw him off of his game? Because you don't want
to let him get comfortable and really start picking you apart,
along with Jackson Smith and Jigba. So I think it's
gonna be up to Everro to be much more creative
with some of the blitz packages that he's gonna be throwing.
I thought the blitz packages that he had last week
(19:17):
against Tampa were really creative and really effective. You saw
it when he blitzed J. C. Hornett was effective. He
saw it at times when he blitzed christ and Rose Boom,
it was effective. I think we need to see that
again in this game from Everro. If the Panthers are
gonna find a way to win.
Speaker 4 (19:34):
Yeah, I think the focus needs to be as you said.
I mean, you have to be able to have possession
of the football on the offensive side. You know that
Seattle they can put up a bunch of points in
a hurry. They have a lot of big play potential
with Sam Darnold and Jackson Smith and Jigba also there.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
You know they're double headed snake.
Speaker 4 (19:53):
There the backfield, Kenneth Walker also Sharboney, they can gash
you at any moment as well. So you're you're gonna
have to put up points I don't think our defense
is gonna be able to hold him to twenty like
to have the past few games.
Speaker 2 (20:06):
You're gonna have to be able to score. So yeah,
run the rock.
Speaker 4 (20:09):
Take time off, and then also use that to set
up a few deep shots, which we've seen canals kind
of open up a little bit more in the past
few games. So I think you have to go you know,
slow and steady and then try to catch the Seahawks
off guard. And it went to capitalize on a big
chunk play. But hopefully, you know, t Mac and Cocher
can both be very involved.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
We'll have to see how much XL gets used.
Speaker 4 (20:32):
But I would also like to see maybe a little
bit more of Jimmy Horn Junior as well, who got
quite a bit more action or at least, you know,
at least snaps last week the previous weeks.
Speaker 1 (20:42):
And he's getting more run in practice, Like I think
he needs to be a part of the game plan,
and I think, you know, two to three designed runs
for Jimmy Horn Junior would be a great way because
he just adds a different element to the run game,
that element that I think they thought they could utilize
XL limb. But it's just FASc enough was just happening
for him. They they they they miss he. Yeah, he
(21:04):
really can't do anything right. He's not he was not
a first round wide receiver. And the fact that they
evaluated him over Lad McConkey is maybe you know something
that you hold against Dan Morgan.
Speaker 3 (21:18):
But I mean, I said it when we were on
here the other day. Guys, i'd cut them. I would
not know.
Speaker 2 (21:23):
They're not. They're not going to.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
It's aggressive, but but if they, if they decided to
do it, I would not I would not criticize.
Speaker 2 (21:30):
Him for it.
Speaker 3 (21:31):
Oh, I don't think you're alone in that. I think
there would be a lot of people that would agree
with you. I don't see it happening. I also don't think.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
I don't think we got to play as perfect as
we did against LA to win this game. Like we're
not as banged up in this game as we were
against the Rams. We're pretty much your entire back seven
was either injured or suspended. Like we we will find
out today about the status you know of of Trevor Wallace.
I'd like to have him back for this game. But
(22:00):
you know you got JC, you got married back there.
Mike Jackson is playing the best football maybe his entire
career right now. That's how good he's been the last five,
you know, six seven games or so. So you know,
we've got to see on on on on that front,
CIA operation rights in. Sam Donald scares the hell out
of me. That Giero a Vera's gonna let him throw
(22:21):
for four hundred first off, How many sentences and they
have been written that you're scared as hell of Sam Darnald,
Like not even when he was at USC and he
was becoming No.
Speaker 3 (22:30):
One, was the top five draft pick. That Sam Donald
scare the hell out of people. It's crazy. And credit
to him me. He's had that type of season. There's
no doubt about it.
Speaker 1 (22:39):
He's been fantastic. He's I've I've enjoyed watching him go
to Minnesota and you know, do what he did there.
I've enjoyed watching his success in Seattle. I made the
case for Carolina to bring him back. He was five
and three as a starter under Steve Wilkes, won a
game while throwing for like forty yards at New Orlean,
(23:01):
like I made. I got why they didn't, but I
was on board if they wanted. If they wanted to
bring him back. You just you've got you've got to
get to him.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
You've got to you've got to hit him, and you've
got to get you've got to get that.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
Clock in his head.
Speaker 1 (23:15):
You've got to get it sped up, because that's what
his footwork gets sloppy. That's where he tries to force
the ball into areas where he can't get the ball
to and that's where you see the bad turnovers. And
that's got to be I do think they've got to
force at least a turnover.
Speaker 2 (23:30):
I think he maybe want to force two, but I don't.
Speaker 1 (23:33):
I don't think the Panthers can allow Seattle to not
commit a turnover and come away with a win.
Speaker 3 (23:38):
Yeah, I think that's definitely got to be part of
the game plan, is finding a way to create one
of those turnovers off of him. And then again it
goes back to as year ever row and what he's
going to be able to scheme up, because I just
don't trust this defensive line to be able to win
their one on one matchups in pass rush. We've seen it,
you know, they've they've been much better this year when
(24:00):
the run game. I don't think you necessarily have to
worry about that. Although this is a pretty solid running team.
I mean they've had Kenneth Walker healthy for most of
the year, So that's an area that you've got to
be able to win again in this one, maybe you
know a little bit better than you did against Tampa.
Tampa was able to run the ball pretty successfully. You'd
like to take it away a little bit more this
(24:22):
time around.
Speaker 1 (24:24):
But I was again in the context is is I
think Carolina is finally letting them run from twenty to twenty, right,
It's about what do you do once you get inside
the red area. You know, JC Horr maybe made the
play of the game where he.
Speaker 3 (24:37):
He made that that stop on the on that that
one run.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
That's that's been the thing when the Panthers have won
these big games.
Speaker 2 (24:44):
The defense. I mean, look at green Bay.
Speaker 1 (24:46):
Green Bay was in Panthers territory, what seven times scored
thirteen points like that's and I think that's with the
way this this defense is structured, where you've got maybe
like one legitimate pass rusher depending on.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
The day, you've got to concede yards.
Speaker 1 (25:01):
You just can't concede points because yeah, they're not equipped
to win games thirty eight to thirty five just yet.
Speaker 3 (25:07):
And the other thing, you got to limit these explosive runs,
because that's one thing that Seattle does a really good
job of, especially with Kenneth Walker, is he will come
out of nowhere. It's you know, two yards, two yards,
two yards, bam, fifty three yard touchdown. That's what you
got to keep out of this, out of the recipe
for this game. And then on the other side, I mean,
you've got to be able to run the football. I
(25:28):
think in this one.
Speaker 4 (25:29):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (25:29):
You know you weren't able to necessarily run it last week,
or you didn't at a successful level, but you know,
this is one of those games where you want to
see him get back to the run call some of
those run plays, especially early in drives. But I mean,
it's also just about what the defense gives you. If
this is some a defense that you're going to be
able to carve up through the air and that's there, well,
(25:50):
then take what's given to you.
Speaker 2 (25:52):
But you want to be able to run the ball
better than.
Speaker 3 (25:54):
You have here recently, and hopefully with the offensive line
maybe getting healthier and get it Robert Hunt back, that
will allow Carolina to potentially run the football. Don't know
if Robert Hunt's going to be back yet still was
limited on Wednesday and they didn't practice yesterday, so we
don't and we don't have any clarification. We'll get clarification
(26:16):
later this morning from coach Canalis or probably earlier this
early in the afternoon from coach Canalis about where exactly
his status stands heading into game day. So if you
get him back, then great, I feel like you've got
a really good rushing group. But or you've got a
group that's going to be able to run the football
pretty well. But if not, then you have to figure
(26:38):
out how do you run the football with the group
that you have that you've been rolling out for the
last few weeks and and find a way to put
up some yards against this team.
Speaker 2 (26:47):
And something else to you.
Speaker 4 (26:48):
I know you mentioned you know having to turn the
ball over for Seattle on the season. You know their
turnover differential, their negative four Panthers are sitting even at zero,
whether they're differential, But it feels like you've taken care
of the ball pretty well. You're an offense recently, hopefully
you don't feel like you're due for a turnover. You
don't feel like you're due for an ag for an
(27:10):
ugly turnover from Bryce or a fumble from Tuba or whatever.
Have to take care of the rock because, Yeah, this
is gonna be a game where you're I think you're
gonna have to have every possession because Seattle I think,
I think they're gonna put up a.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
Lot of points.
Speaker 3 (27:27):
So you're saying Seattle has a negative four turnover origin,
they have a negative four turnover margin their first place
in the NFC. I think that's a team that's a
scary team because they can turn the ball over and
it still doesn't matter.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
They find ways to put points up.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
But there's probably also more of a sign and I
don't I mean maybe Shopy.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
Do you have how many turnovers they forced in front
of you? Yeah? They have. They have taken away six.
Speaker 4 (27:54):
They have sixteen interceptions and six fumbles. They have given
away fourteen interceptions and twelve fumbles.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
Holy.
Speaker 3 (28:06):
So that's the thing, man, Not only is it through
the air that you can get them, you can create
some fumbles in this game too. I think, man, with
that stad, I'm telling you you might want to get
two turnovers in this If you could be plus two,
then I think you're feeling pretty good. You got to
get those extra possessions though, because you've got to be
(28:27):
able to score. This team, we know they're capable of scoring.
They're doing it when they're turning the football over. So
for Carolina, I mean, that's gonna be the thing. It's
got to be efficient on the offensive side of the ball.
You've got to be moving the ball consistently, and you've
got to be able to put up points. This is
one of the toughest offenses you faced all year. Now,
the good news is is that when you face a
(28:48):
tough offense earlier in the season in the Rams, you
were able to quiet that offense a little bit. Got
to be able to do similar stuff in this game
against the Apple.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
Sorry.
Speaker 4 (28:57):
The only other point I'll make real quick too, is
something that has to be part of the formula.
Speaker 2 (29:01):
Kick return defense has to be better.
Speaker 4 (29:03):
You cannot give this team great starting field position or
else they were going to burn you.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
So have to bring back to success with the dirty kicks.
Speaker 4 (29:11):
Doesn't feel like they've been as effective as they were
early in the season, and have to be able to
get these guys stop because if you're starting them on
the on the forty or fifty yard line.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
Good luck man. So that's a tough task with his defense.
Speaker 1 (29:24):
We should be good because Mac isn't on here raving
about the Panthers kickoff return unit because they were like
first and EPA in terms of kickoff returns yardage allowed
entering last week's game. And of course they gave up
you know, the two big returns if you will, were
the field position was definitely in Tampa Bay's favor, but
they only gave up I think ten points in those scenarios.
(29:45):
Like the defense did a really good job after being
put in a bad situation. And that's also been the
thing I think Averro has done in these in these
big games, like okay, Tampa Bay last week, first two
drives ten points, they only scored ten points over their
final with six drives over the rest of the ball game.
And then they get the touchdown to start the third
quarter or they ate up you know, seven and a
(30:06):
half minutes of the clock, but then they were able
to come back and get some stops. This defense isn't perfect,
but whenever they've won these games, the defense has been
a big reason why because they've made they've made the
timely plays and that's gonna be the thing. Can you
can you draw up that corner, blitz that that that
gets you off the field on third down? Can you
get can Christian Rosebin be in position and make the play,
(30:29):
but actually make the play? Does Mike Jackson make that
break on the ball. That's the difference between a catch
or a d or or an a completion or hell
even an I N T. Because you know they've been
saying it for a while, they've been playing playoff football,
championship football for quite some time. This game's gonna have
a playoff type of feel to it. It's gonna feel
like a playoff game at the Bank, just like it
(30:51):
did last week against Tampa Bay. I think Carolina can
feed off of that, but you got to you got
to make plays. And I think with what Bryce has done,
if it's close entering the fourth quarter, the Panthers will
become they can come on with a win.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (31:04):
I think you believe in this group. If the game
is close, you believe this group is gonna find a
way to pull it out because of their quarterback. As
you said, this defense, we and we've seen this before.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
Man, we've seen it.
Speaker 3 (31:20):
It doesn't have to be a great defense, but it's
just one that comes up with the timely plays. As
you talked about, that's what you've got to be able
to do in this game. Come up with that timely tackle,
come up with that timely stop.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
One of the other things I.
Speaker 3 (31:33):
Want to see him do, you know, win on early
downs on the defensive side of the football. Don't let
this team get into third and short consistently, because if
they do, they're going to be able to capitalize a
lot easier than some of the other teams that you
face so far this year. So I think that's got
to be a big point emphasis for Caroline in this game.
Speaker 2 (31:52):
Has just come out those first two downs.
Speaker 3 (31:55):
Make sure you get there into third and medium, third
and long, and then that's where you can you know,
you're able to sort of, uh, you know, manufacture some
of that pressure with some of the blitzes that you
can throw at him and hopefully throw Sam Darnold off
of his game.
Speaker 1 (32:10):
All Right, that's our formula for a Panther's win over
the Seahawks on Sunday at the Bank. We come back,
we'll make our predictions. Myself flound shoppy with an early prediction,
and maybe even missus Shroppie well the way, you know,
with her prediction for the game on Sunday as well.
You're listening to Sports Radio ninety two seven WFNZ one
(32:46):
final segment here to go for the young guns. Then
we'll hand it over to Colin Haggart. He's back in
the building. No donuts today though, from the Hawk Father,
he brought us donuts in on Tuesday. No donuts today
made me kind of sad. But I did eat like
eight cookies during the show, so I probably don't need
any doe.
Speaker 2 (33:05):
I think you're good.
Speaker 1 (33:06):
There's there's also some other cookies over here I brought
in for you guys, So feel free to help yourselves,
try to, you know, share the share some of the
Christmas food that I had when I was back home
for the holiday. Seven oh four or five, seven oh
ninety six to ten.
Speaker 2 (33:22):
Get it on the fan.
Speaker 1 (33:22):
Duel text line text in your prediction for Sunday's game
between the Panthers and the Seahawks. Our guy weather Man,
Mark Wish justin Merry Christmas said, Fitty is right, They
just need to cut Excel. I'm done with him, geez,
he's the Mingo version two point zero. Excel is a
major bust. I doubt we could get anything for him.
I'd call Jerry Jones.
Speaker 3 (33:43):
I mean, you got a fourth for Jonathan Mingo. I
think you can get something for a former first round
pick man, because you're not You're not just getting Xcel.
Speaker 1 (33:51):
You're getting Excel and Glo Rilla. I mean that's a
that's a marketing tandem right now. You're probably also not
trading Xcel to a GM. This brain did so.
Speaker 3 (33:59):
I mean it's yeah, oh boy, yeah, well, I mean,
who in their right mind is trading a fourth round
pick for Jonathan Mingo?
Speaker 2 (34:09):
Did he not watch any tape?
Speaker 3 (34:10):
No, no, he doesn't. He just I like his name
make a trade. So he had to make a trade.
Speaker 2 (34:17):
But it sounds like Bengo like it. I'm hungry.
Speaker 1 (34:21):
Bengal guy wrote in said, do you guys your Secret Santa?
That'd be great radio. I think we need to do
that next year. I think we need to do because
we were the three that worked together because smokes, you
know in the afternoon.
Speaker 2 (34:33):
Well you can't.
Speaker 3 (34:33):
You're not doing Secret Santa with three people. That's okay,
but it can still work. Yeah, Now if now we
did it the whole station, Now that would be.
Speaker 2 (34:44):
That would be interesting.
Speaker 3 (34:45):
Let's be honest, no one wants to buy Willy a gift,
so I'm getting dude, I'm gonna tell you Willie would
be one of the easiest people to get a gift for.
I just buy him a cooking manual on brisket just
going the layup. Jeez, man, I mean I I was
just gonna say, a nice a nice.
Speaker 2 (35:04):
Bottle of wine.
Speaker 3 (35:06):
By the way, Charlotte f C shirt, A nice sharbonna
I got her.
Speaker 2 (35:10):
That's the Seattle running back.
Speaker 3 (35:12):
I got documented evidence on Tuesday. I remember we were
talking about his uh, his sweater. Well, there's been a
lot of documented evidence coming out these last few days,
so that's right. You need to clarify the sweater thing was.
He could not have been more happy to tell you
I bought this sweater before I met my wife, Thank
(35:34):
you very much. I got photos of Willie in three
different cities wearing the sweater.
Speaker 2 (35:40):
He really needed to prove to you.
Speaker 1 (35:42):
He was a man on a mission. So yeah, maybe
maybe something we we start doing next year. You know
BT their morning show, they do gifts to everybody, so.
Speaker 3 (35:57):
Oh geez, well, I mean maybe I think I'm too
poor for that. Well, I just I didn't. I didn't
expect anything from Mac and Bone.
Speaker 1 (36:07):
They just one day, which, oh, hang on, correction, I
expected something from Mac. Mac was all excited to give
me a gift car to go to Texas Roadhouse.
Speaker 2 (36:15):
We'll be using that within the next week.
Speaker 1 (36:16):
Oh, very nice, which Jim prompted Bone and the next
day to come in with the gift card to Fanatics.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
We'll be using that today.
Speaker 3 (36:22):
Oh so you think Bone, you think Bone felt pressure
that he had to go out and get you something.
Boner and I were going to the Seahawks game, so like,
if that was the gift for that, No, it's a
bad guy.
Speaker 2 (36:35):
You're not. Did you offer yes?
Speaker 3 (36:37):
Oh okay, yeah, when it comes to you gotta at
least get him a beer or something. Dude, when I
went to the game Cogs game, I told him, I said, well,
I'll drive and I'll get your food. Nah, you just
paid for the gas, I'll pay for your Look at
Bone flashing the uh the wallet. He's like, I don't
need that. I'm perfectly fine. It's kind of like you
(36:58):
and know what, though it's appreciated, it's appreciated, but when
you don't have a woman to spend your money on you,
spend it on your man's That's why I spend it
on you, and.
Speaker 2 (37:07):
Bone spends it on me. Weird sentence.
Speaker 1 (37:09):
Yeah, and then Shoppy sometimes gets in on on the conversation.
Speaker 2 (37:13):
You're bones man. Oh yeah, oh interesting.
Speaker 1 (37:17):
As much as Bone and I communicate outside these walls,
we're in a great group chat too, bon for you two.
All right, we're always in constant conversation. Shroppy, you got
you got predictions? I sure do, I sure do. I
guess I will go. I will go first with mine
and then uh. And also Mama Shrop's score prediction here. Uh,
(37:39):
Mama Shrop at first was not gonna be panthering up.
Speaker 2 (37:43):
She was not well.
Speaker 4 (37:44):
She was going panther blowout. I know someone on the
text line they called it blowout brigade three score galore,
five for twelve, said Mama Shrop. Scores as predictable as
Sir Llowin's. He he guessed she was gonna say forty
two to twenty one. Seat on the route. She was
gonna guess forty to three. But she was like, oh
sounds terrible, so she goodness, So Mama Strop has settled
(38:04):
on twenty eight to ten Seattle getting the victory here.
Speaker 3 (38:07):
Wow, yeah, oh boy, that is little faith in the Panthers.
Speaker 4 (38:12):
Listen, and I hate to do it. I'm kind of
on the same wave. I was gonna damn by that
much though. I was gonna predict Seattle twenty eight to
seventeen get in the win.
Speaker 3 (38:22):
Oh, that would be okay, but maybe maybe you know
Seattle scores a late touchdown as twenty one seventeen, Panthers
don't get the ball back.
Speaker 2 (38:31):
Yeah, or are you seeing the same?
Speaker 4 (38:32):
I think the Panthers keep it close for the for
the for the majority of the game. I think the
fourth quarter, I think Seattle kind of opens it up
and it makes it an eleven point game.
Speaker 3 (38:41):
Is it disrespectful? Carolina is a full seven point underdog
at home? No, I don't think so, because that would
lead you a little. On the road, they'd be a
double digit dog. Yeah, little, that's that's a little nuts
to me.
Speaker 2 (38:52):
I mean, this is they they've beaten two of the
best teams in the NFC.
Speaker 3 (38:59):
I mean at a time, the two best teams in
the NFC at that time. I don't understand how you're
that big of an underdog. That's that's a little nuts
to me. So you're panthering up you know who could
do after the crappy pool at eight twenty Yeah, at
least as Seaw.
Speaker 2 (39:19):
I'm saying, yeah, I don't think. I am though.
Speaker 3 (39:24):
I don't think because here's what I think is ultimately
gonna happen. We know how this season has gone. So
if you want to win next week's games though at
one point this year, but they would have to win
three straight because my can we just can we throw
this out there? I know Shaked Bartall the esteem Shahked
Bartall predicted that Miami is gonna win tomorrow or on Sunday.
(39:48):
Excuse me, that's not happening. I look, I love Quinn Ewers.
I loved him when he was at Texas. I thought
he got way too much flak from that fan base.
I don't think that's gonna happen. So I think it
comes down to that final week. I think the Panthers
will lose a close one in this one. I like
it twenty to twenty four Seattle, so they'll cover. But
(40:12):
I just think they come up short because I think, honestly,
I think Seattle gets the ball.
Speaker 2 (40:17):
Last, and that's really what decides the game.
Speaker 1 (40:19):
Yeah. I mean, look, I think there's definitely the argument
for Seattle to win the game, and maybe win the
game and blowout fashion. I do think the Panthers have
moved on from not being competitive in losses. At least,
I'd like to think we're done getting blown out when
we lose football games the teams not named the New
(40:40):
Orleans Saints. We still have to wait and see how
that ultimately all plays out. They did play a competitive
game at the Niners back on Monday Night Football. I,
as much as anybody here, led the charge for the
ten win club this year. We gotta we got a
long lists somewhere in the building of all the members
(41:02):
of the ten win club, even though pad Yeah, and
the only way for the Panthers to win ten games
in the regular season is they got to win out
and they got to go on a three game winning streak.
They've got one one third of the way there with
the win last week at home against Tampa. We are
at home, it's the final home game of the year.
(41:22):
I think it's going to be the best environment of
the year. The Panthers are one and zero.
Speaker 3 (41:27):
With me in attendance, and their lone win was a
thirty to nothing win over the Falcons back in early September.
Speaker 1 (41:33):
Bonea and I were not going to be a curse.
I think Carolina gets their third win over the number
one team in.
Speaker 2 (41:40):
The NFC this year.
Speaker 1 (41:41):
They take down Seattle in a classic give me the
Give Me the Panthers twenty eight to twenty seven on
Sunday at Bank of America Stadium.
Speaker 2 (41:50):
Word my, there it is, there we go.
Speaker 3 (41:55):
I'd love it. I'd love it, and I think it's
I think it's more than possible. It's just if you.
What scares me is a team that has a minus
four turnover ratio and is twelve and three on the season.
Speaker 2 (42:09):
They just find ways to put up a boatload of points.
Speaker 1 (42:11):
Man Ishmael waited until literally the final minute to get
his dig in at me, unlike Fitty with Seattle Sally,
the Panthers score and the Panthers win.
Speaker 2 (42:23):
Seventeen to ten.
Speaker 4 (42:24):
That's a fantastic text to end off that way to
go is we?
Speaker 3 (42:27):
I mean it's it's It's accurate though.
Speaker 2 (42:29):
Man, It's.
Speaker 3 (42:33):
End well between Fitty yours truly in Seattle Salad.
Speaker 4 (42:37):
Who could have guessed who could have guessed? Who could
have saw that on coming?
Speaker 1 (42:41):
I didn't see the phone call coming, I can. I
can put it to you that way. That's going to
wrap it up for this edition of the Young Guns.
We've had a whole lot of fun talking Panthers, talking
college football, Bryce, Young Drake May, so much more and
the like. We'll be back with you guys on New
Year's for a special eight to twelve show before getting
(43:03):
you ready for a Hornets game that on that day.
But when coming up next, it's Colin Hoggart Charlotte Sports
Today alongside Aaron Shruppy Shropshire from noon to three, c
Adam Gold Show from three to six, it's Willie PN
for KB, and then at six o'clock we'll be transitioning
to Hornets pre game ahead of Hornets and Magic. All
that and more coming right right here on Sports Radio
