the Christmas holiday and get you ready for Panthers Seahawks.
A chance for the Panthers to clinch the NFC South
at the Bank on Sunday. If they beat the best

the Bucks, the Pans will clinched the division going into

(01:09):
the final week of the regular season. We'll talk about
all that and so much more. Boys, so people, all
had a great Christmas the same to you.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
It was. It was good.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
Got just about everything that I asked for and I got.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
I got basically nothing that I asked for.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
I could see this because I knew on the list
that you were wanting new headphones.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
Yep, that didn't at least it's not here yet. Maybe
that's what my sister got me, and that hasn't arrived.
But uh, we're not off to a flying start. Yeah,
because it's okay because your headphones are broken. Like there's
one side of your ear that's uncovered because that side
of your headphone broke. I had to cut the ear

(01:53):
piece off because it was dangling for a long time.
I was just having it hang there while I was
doing shows, and so it became it became a distraction,
you know, as most things that hang do. And I
just decided, you know what, I'm gonna cut off.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
So now what I.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
What I have is I basically have the coordinator headset.
I've got the brad Izick head set where one year
works the other year. I'm just I'm hearing natural environment.
So you know, I got to get it figured out
at some point here. I got I got money from
my grandmother. But I got to make sure that you know,

(02:33):
somebody didn't already order them for me, so I don't
double order shoppy.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
It took him two minutes to say something, you know
on the surface, Yeah, where someone's getting dump today?

Speaker 2 (02:44):
Don't know if it's me. It was flounder on.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
Hey, this is your own problem that you're taking it
to places that it shouldn't be taken.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
Flounder on Tuesday when trying to talk about a bowl
game that was just the first off doesn't exist, or
maybe it's are we sure?

Speaker 3 (02:59):
Are we sure that it doesn't exist? There are a
lot of bowl games nowadays. I went through all the sponsors.
I didn't see that one. How many bowl games did
you watch over the weekend? The grand total of a zero?

Speaker 1 (03:09):
I'm assuming right the weekend hasn't taken place yet or
it felt.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Like a weekend. Uh? How over the holiday? How many
did you actually watch? Not one? Not a single one?

Speaker 1 (03:21):
No.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
And I felt bad because stro was working. I checked
out a little bit of the Boker a tone bowl.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
That you did. I meant to put that on.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
And and supporting a friend and just uh and just
never got to it. Did see some of our post
game stuff, which was which was pretty funny. Well, they're
just out there stirring a big poppet, and Michael Key out.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
There means stirring the bush's baked beans.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
But no, I did as we talked about when we
were trying to fix bowl season. I wasn't gonna slander
what ball season is and go go away for the
for a few days and watch those ball You missed
one of our guys, Blake Anderson, back on the sidelines
for Southern mess.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
I do not care.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Okay, So so what did you end up getting because
you asked for very specific things?

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (04:08):
Did you get any of the Drake May shirts that
you wanted? Not a single one of the Drake May shirts?
Not a single Drake May shirt.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
Well maybe that's your dad just trying to put some
common sense into you.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Nothing tar heel. Well see do I got?

Speaker 3 (04:21):
I got one? I got one shirt, one shirt that
I asked for, actually two, two shirts that I asked for.
I asked for a dress shirt and I asked for
a Jackson Dart T shirt and I got both of those. Now,
the thing is, there's only one problem. Can't wear either xcel.
I'm two x right now, they're trying to tell you something. Yeah,

(04:44):
so the motivation is to get in the gym so
I can actually wear these I can actually wear these items,
or you just you know, return them. No, you can't
return them now why? Well, I mean I didn't order them.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
So hmm. What a predicament you've had yourself in.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
Yeah, it's called lose weight, you fat ass. Well that's
that's basically. That's basically what what I need to do.
That's that's that's my message to myself for this year.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
So okay, but see it's interesting because shouldn't ask or
you do not get anything tar heel for Christmas?

Speaker 2 (05:22):
Not a single or no, I take that back.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
I did get something tarho for Christmas, but it was
something that nobody could have possibly guessed.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Now, I don't mind it.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
It's a nice gift. And that's the thing. All everything
that I got is very nice.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
What is it?

Speaker 3 (05:37):
It's a sign that says Carolina fans this way and
it lights up.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
It's like a man cave type sign, which is cool.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
The thing is is that I can't hang it on
the wall though, because at least I don't want we
don't want nails in the wall.

Speaker 4 (05:52):
Yeah, at least now the ladies not to get to
your bedroom though, right, it's a good point.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Yeah, they haven't known the route ever, so because you're
missing the sign.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
Dude, Well you see, like and trope, you could get
it on this Like when it comes to like my
favorite team, I don't ask for stuff for like my
favorite I was a kid, I did because I didn't
have money, and I don't have money now because.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
I work in radio.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
But I still don't ask that for for Like I
ordered stuff for me for Christmas, that stuff that I
that I wanted, so like, well.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
That's what the two hundred and fifty bucks from Grandma's for.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
Yeah, so like whatever I don't get, Like I got
nothing tar Heel for Christmas either, it's because I didn't
seek out to get something Carolina for Christmas. I imagine
trophy is the same way with you and the Hurricanes,
Checkers or maybe maybe some Formula one gear.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Uh that's actually incorrect.

Speaker 4 (06:45):
Is the Checkers jersey I'm wearing right now is one
that I asked for and received for Christmas.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
It is the ease new.

Speaker 4 (06:50):
Because I feel like I've seen you one before. Yeah,
that's the first time I'm wearing it here in the station.
Just got it for Christmas. It's the uh in case
anyone's wondering. Obviously, this is not a visual medium. It
is the the classic jersey from like from the nineties
with the with the checkerboard and the old chubby where
actually looks mean and has a helmet on. And I
think it's one of the best jerseys that I've ever seen.

(07:12):
That's a that's a sweet cop right there, there's no question.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
Thank you.

Speaker 4 (07:15):
And when it comes to the Hurricane stuff, I haven't
bought a new jersey for them in a long time.
I stole my dad's jersey out of his closet with
the it was like from like the two thousand and
four season where they actually you know, embroidered stuff and
actually had the fancy silver and like the hurricane warning
signs on the jersey.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
Now, now the Hurricanes jerseys kind of suck. That's why
I don't. I don't buy them.

Speaker 4 (07:39):
But uh yeah, yeah, so have not. I have not
invested much of my own money into team gear recently.
I've just kind of relied on Christmas gifts because hockey
jerseys are expensive. Man.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
Yeah, oh yeah, that's true.

Speaker 5 (07:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
The best word about like this stuff I asked for
because you know, I don't mean to brag, but I've
got two more Christmas I got to go through and
like for my and all I wanted to be a
divorced kid is.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
The best it has just kidding, hidding.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
But also if I asked for for Christmas was like
actual Christmas stuff. So I wanted a Christmas tree pre ormance, Well, no,
I want I needed a tree. Oh so I've got
a Christmas tree, which is great. I have one for
next year, and I've got some like little decorations I
can put around the house. Look at that that'll I
might leave him out until like New Year's and then

(08:27):
put them up just so I can, like you should
be like your mama till February and the mall mall
goes all the way pretty much to Valentine's Day.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
I'm not I'm not going that law.

Speaker 4 (08:37):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
I love the thought about making the tree though a
year round tree and just living it up decorated for
the season and decorated for the season.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
But I feel like that would just.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
Be Yeah, I don't know how that's helping you on
the dating that be like shotch, I feel like yeah,
not very charming, and I'm trying to be less. You know,
Flounders going twenty twenty six, lose weight, go on twenty twenty.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
Six, be less. I'm a shotch It's gonna be a
tough road for you. Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
You're a great start. A lot to change, but I'm
glad that y'all had a great Christmas. I know I did,
even though Flounder didn't get anything that he asked for. Sorry, buddy,
but that's the part of being that. I still love
my gifts. I want to I want to make sure
that's known in case my parents are listening. I still
love my gifts.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
I just didn't get anything that I was asked for,
So I mean, you still get the you get the
element of surprise.

Speaker 1 (09:29):
Yeah, and as you mentioned, you got two hundred and
fifty bucks, so you'll just go buy the stuff that
you wanted to get that you didn't get, and now
now you can't feel guilty about it, like I like
Matt for Christmas. Gave me money to or Bone gaming
money to Fanatics. My favorite place to shop I spend
I mean literally thousands of dollars there. But I've been
torn between do I want to buy some more unc stuff, okay,

(09:53):
or do I want to add to the Panther collection. Well,
then I was going through my stocking estray, I guess
we'll fill out the stocking, and then I felt shop
gift card.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
So now I got the best of both worlds now,
I mean, yeah, now, how do you not get?

Speaker 4 (10:05):
Now there be.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
Another worshipment of you and see gear coming? There we
go with another shipment of Panther gear coming. So I
feel like when I get the gift card, that's I
get that. That's almost as exciting as anything because then
I really get to.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
Pick and choose whatever I want. You don't you don't
want them picking and choosing?

Speaker 1 (10:24):
No, Yeah, I'm very I'm very, you know, very specific
in terms of what I want because I'm gonna make
sure my shirt's got the Nike logo. It was a
Carolina gear is gonna have the Jumpman logo. And I
don't want to ask people to pay for that because
they ever charge you, and I'm considerate.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
A look at you, what a nice guy? Yeah, look
at you. How much sports did y'all actually take in yesterday?

Speaker 2 (10:46):
Dude?

Speaker 4 (10:47):
Pretty good amount, pretty minimal if I'm being honest with you. Yeah,
I was there for basketball, was all right. NFL did
not watch a lick of it.

Speaker 3 (10:54):
I'm not gonna lie, I you missed absolutely nothing except
the Lions. Just I mean, what a what a pathetic
what a pathetic season for them?

Speaker 5 (11:07):
Man.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
Well, I mean I was talking about with my dad yesterday.
You really what we thought about in the Lions. And
I don't want to take away because Dan Campbell still
deserves a lot of credit for that turnaround that franchise
as and has experienced. Oh of course, has he set
the culture, but like the leaf around Detroit was, their
coordinators were what made them, which is why they both

(11:30):
became med coaches. Although Aaron Glen's been a disaster with
the Jets, oh yeah, you think he's won and done now, Granted,
like you look at that Detroit defense, I mean that
secondary has been injured pretty much from whord go with
that offense. They were injured last year too, towards the
end of the year and they still were as good
as they were. So so yeah, I mean, yesterday was
not the way you want to get eliminated from the playoffs,

(11:54):
Max Brosmer, That's not the way you want to go out.
I think that was probably gonna be the the likely
result at some point. I didn't see Detroit do what
they had to do to get in. I mean, obviously,
my family, being Dallas fans, we were there. I watched
watch the Cowboys beat the Commanders, and that was it
was good. I mean, you they just none of the

(12:17):
games mattered like it mattered maybe for Denver because they're
playing for seating, but you're they and they.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
Looked they looked horrible. Well that's for most of the game.
That's what Denvers looked like though all year. That's why
anybody that looks me in the face and tells me
that they're the best team in the AFC, I don't
know how you can seriously believe that because that defense
is that I guess you led up thirteen points to
Chris oladukean Okay, so were they supposed to pitch a

(12:45):
pitch of shot. Yes, that's a third string quarterback and
that's a dude that shouldn't even be in the league.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
I mean, like, I'm sorry you Mahomie.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
Though, if you're if you're, if you're that good of
a team, you should have been able to completely shut
off that offense, which has not been great all year long,
and you should have been able. My thing is you
should have been able to score more points that offense.
I just I can't get there with that offense. I
cannot trust that group. And it's why going into the playoffs,

(13:20):
it will be a wild card team more than likely
that I am going to trust to make the super Bowl.
And that is a team that has not made the
Super Bowl since the nineties in the Bills. That's gonna
be the team that I'm gonna trust in the AFC. Yeah,
I mean, and I don't feel great about it, but
I mean, who else are you gonna trust?

Speaker 2 (13:39):
The Steelers.

Speaker 1 (13:40):
The argument for Denver is their their unit is better,
Like like, Denver's unit is the best union of any
playoff team in the AFC, Like like their defense is
better than any offense.

Speaker 2 (13:58):
Yeah, yeah, it makes sense, and that they've.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
Got the best defense if they get and if they
get home field, how many teams are going there and winning.
We saw Jacksonville do it, but that was at the
end of twelve straight wins. Like Denver was going to
lose at some point because you just don't see twelve
game winning stricks in the NFL that often, So you
I mean, you would say Jacksonville because they've they've literally

(14:21):
done it. But are you gonna trust a first time
playoff quarterback like Drake Made to go there and win.
Probably not, or not Drake, but probably, I mean the
the the default answer would be Josh Allen and the Bills. Yes,
because they're the most experienced team that's going to make
the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
But what's been there.

Speaker 1 (14:40):
I mean, there's been some times where they've had home
for an advantage and they couldn't get to the championship
game because of Joe Burrow and the Bengals or so,
I mean, you're right, I think there's that's going There's
gonna be more trust in Buffalo than anyone going in
because they've got a two time MVP at quarterback. But
if Denver comes out of the AFC, I'm not gonna
be surprised because that defense can carry them to if

(15:02):
they get the number one seed to win two games
to make the Super Bowl, I.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
Mean, yeah, I guess.

Speaker 3 (15:06):
I mean I would be a little bit shocked at
this point because I think their offense is just I mean,
it's concerning. There are times you watch games with this team,
And you just say, how in the world is this
team as good as they are because this offense is
not great. But I mean, yeah, yeah, I guess you
got to guess Reddy good. I guess you got to

(15:27):
give credit to bo Nicks. He's a guy that seems
to be able to make plays when he needs to.
But I mean, I just say, yeah, I don't know, man,
I don't feel great about them going into the playoffs.
Now again, I don't feel great about any of the
other teams that are in first place. I mean, the
team I probably feel the best about, depending on how

(15:47):
they close out the season, it's probably Pittsburgh.

Speaker 1 (15:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (15:51):
Oh, and that's and and that's the spot that I
did not think I would get to at any point.

Speaker 1 (15:56):
I I told you earlier in the season. I thought
they were complete frauds. I think Ron has found the
fountain of youth. He looks, he doesn't look he doesn't
look like he's forty two, even though he doesn't move
all that well in the pocket. And they can when
when when they can run it? And and I mean,
if if you watch the Lions game, Arthur Smith just

(16:16):
running John new Smith out of the backfield, and it's
getting seven eight nine yards of pop. That's gonna be.
The thing is they can run it. They're always good defensively.
It's really can you get Rogers to make those few
throws that they're gonna ask him to make?

Speaker 2 (16:30):
And he's made him here.

Speaker 4 (16:31):
Recently, so and and at least DK metcalf is gonna
be fresh too with two weeks off, so well.

Speaker 2 (16:38):
That's the thing.

Speaker 3 (16:39):
Yeah, who knows what they're gonna look like these next
couple of weeks. If they're gonna be able to go
in with throw metam that team, that team goes in
eleven and six, there'll be people talking.

Speaker 5 (16:49):
I think.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
I think we have to have a serious conversation about
them potentially making a run here.

Speaker 2 (16:54):
And I hate it.

Speaker 3 (16:55):
I can't stand Aaron Rodgers, but you look around the
rest of the AFC and you're trying to find the experience.

Speaker 1 (17:02):
I find him more likable in Pittsburgh than I thought
he was gonna be interesting.

Speaker 4 (17:07):
He hasn't been as loud in the media though, either.
He's kind of calmed down. I think him being in
New York, like with the Jets for those for those
two years, what two or three years? Two three years,
I felt like sixty seven media, So you're gonna it's
gonna get blasted. But we also got injured and.

Speaker 1 (17:23):
Was on McAfee with with nothing to do except talking
about his rehab, Yeah, and talk about his functional franchise
falling down in front of him. How much NBA did
we take in? I watched it was on. Yeah, I
watched because I was I was Nicks and I was
I was done. I was there to watch the Knicks comeback.
That was a great game down the stretch.

Speaker 4 (17:42):
Did tune in to watch the Spurs beat the Thunder
for the third time this season?

Speaker 2 (17:47):
We know, Okaysee's kryptonite. Yeah, yeah, it's a seven to
four French freak.

Speaker 3 (17:52):
Yeah that who absolutely cannot stand chet Holdgren for some reason.
Did you see him celebrating the miss free throw that
he had at one point? I mean he was I
don't think I've ever seen winby this fired up. I'm
not gonna get upset though, because the NBA like needs that.

Speaker 2 (18:11):
Yes, we we need.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
And look, I think there's a natural rivalry with the
Knicks and the Pacers because of the playoffs. I think
the Thunder and the Spurs because of how young they are,
they feel primed to do this for the next you know, ten, twelve,
fifteen years.

Speaker 2 (18:24):
The best teams in basketball right now too.

Speaker 1 (18:27):
I mean I hope that they grow to hate each
other and that that carries over on onto the court,
because the NBA needs that.

Speaker 2 (18:36):
We need teams to hate teams.

Speaker 1 (18:38):
We need players to hate players as much as you know,
players hate playing the games themselves.

Speaker 2 (18:43):
Like, did you see Lebron?

Speaker 1 (18:45):
I don't see Lebron come playing about playing on Christmas?

Speaker 5 (18:48):
No?

Speaker 2 (18:49):
No, what else? What else is new? And what do
you expect you play for? The Lakers?

Speaker 3 (18:54):
Dog, they played the second most games on Christmas of
any franchise. Only the Knicks have played him more. So
you should have known that when you signed there. I
just like, just spare me, man, oh dis ray, what
does what does this guy not complain about? He's a
grumpy old man, dude. It's so annoying. It's why I
can't watch. I just I cannot watch him in the league.

Speaker 2 (19:18):
I can't do it.

Speaker 3 (19:19):
Like the game was on last night and I was
focused on I was like, I'm just gonna lock in
on the NFL game.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
Forget it.

Speaker 3 (19:26):
I mean, you got to give Lebron a break. His
siatic is acting up again, Skiatica or whatever smoke called it.

Speaker 4 (19:37):
I just I've been sick of Lebron for a long time.
I don't think anyone has done and I know we
gotta go. No one has done like a worst job
to the narrative around him. That for a great player
than Lebron because he just doesn't shut up.

Speaker 3 (19:52):
It's just he was complaining last night down like down,
I think it was like twenty five points. I'm like,
just just dude, you're getting your a kick quick complaining.
Just play the game and shut up. Yeah, I don't
want to be shot up, and yeah, that's that's tough.

Speaker 2 (20:05):
That's tough.

Speaker 1 (20:06):
But just just be Lebron without the complaining and people
would probably appreciate your greatness a whole lot more. We're
off and running here on Sports Radio ninety two to
seven wf and Z the Young Guns. We're in forra
mat Combona will beat you up until ten a m.

Speaker 2 (20:23):
We come back.

Speaker 1 (20:24):
We'll turn our attention to the Carolina Panthers in their
injury report, and Derek Brown got stuff from the Pro Bowl.
We'll talk about that next right here on Sports Radio
ninety two to seven w fn Z. Welcome back to

(20:51):
the Young Guns Sports Radio ninety two seven w fn Z.
What you laughing about back there? I'm laughing at Panther
both Man. He's off, he's off to a off to
her roll the.

Speaker 4 (21:02):
Day after Christmas, he says he's clearly saved his most
creative stuff all year for the show.

Speaker 2 (21:07):
Oh yes, Anther Bo, we appreciate it, man, thanks for
being locked in.

Speaker 1 (21:10):
Yeah, he's the only one that I believe on a
Richie has texted in on the fandual text line seven
oh four five seven ninety six ten.

Speaker 2 (21:18):
We want to hear from you guys.

Speaker 1 (21:19):
He said, Stranger Things was better than football yesterday hashtag
real talk.

Speaker 3 (21:24):
I do know social media the hashtag Richie was yesterday.
The yesterday was their new season. Yeah, it was like
eight o'clock.

Speaker 1 (21:31):
I think it's when it was when it came off
because I know, like in the evening Twitter got a little,
they got it. Yeah, outside of just like because the
sports were just I don't want to say mundane, but
like there wasn't enough.

Speaker 2 (21:45):
Who is that excited about either one?

Speaker 1 (21:47):
Yeah, it wasn't like you know with Thanksgiving where you
had those games were good, you know, really good games,
compelling games down to the wire games for people you know,
were you know, first off watching. I'll be interested to
see what the numbers look like. You know what, Cowboys
Chief strew fifty seven million viewers back on Thanksgiving.

Speaker 4 (22:05):
The thing is though, but but the thing is though,
it is like how many people like Flounder, like weren't
even really paying attention but just kind of had it on,
you know what I mean. Like, I think could be
the number of people that watched compared to the people
that actually watched. Yeah, uh, it probably varies. But yeah,
I mean I wasn't compelled by the NFL matchups at all.

(22:26):
I didn't feel bad skipping out on those. I kept
up with it, you know, with my notifications on Twitter
with what was happening. I said, I was a little
bit more locked into the NBA. But other than that, man,
I was just enjoying some time with what the family had.
Had my buddy t K over for a little bit yesterday.

Speaker 2 (22:40):
Oh yeah, yeah, there you go. Oh yeah, so it was.
I mean it was good. I hope you guys.

Speaker 4 (22:45):
I know, we talked about what we got, but you know,
spending time with the family eating some good food.

Speaker 2 (22:50):
Oh dude, I ate my I mean, this is not
going to surprise anyone. I ate my ass off.

Speaker 4 (22:54):
What what was the favorite? Well, yeah, weird phrasing. What
was the best thing you guys had to eat?

Speaker 2 (23:00):
Steak?

Speaker 6 (23:01):
What?

Speaker 3 (23:02):
What?

Speaker 2 (23:02):
What cut? I mean, you can't just be steak. We
do filets on Christmas. That's what we did too. God,
it was so good.

Speaker 5 (23:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (23:08):
Oh yeah, bags d yesterday? Oh bakes ed?

Speaker 4 (23:12):
Sorry baby, all I know. We talked about what we received.
What was the best gift that you guys gave?

Speaker 2 (23:20):
Nothing.

Speaker 3 (23:20):
I actually didn't give any gifts away yesterday because I
had to give my sister's gift.

Speaker 6 (23:30):
Now.

Speaker 2 (23:31):
I got her earphone.

Speaker 3 (23:32):
She said, can you give them to me early because
I need them for my walk that I'm going on.

Speaker 2 (23:38):
Huh okay, So I had to give them to her
a day early.

Speaker 3 (23:41):
My mom got Kindle Unlimited because she wants to be
able to read certain books. So we're gonna split the
cost of that. So nothing there it yet, No he did.
Oh but I'm but I'm saying nothing you can wrap.
We're just splitting the.

Speaker 2 (23:56):
Cost of it.

Speaker 3 (23:57):
And then my dad his gift excuse me, will not
arrive until mid January.

Speaker 2 (24:05):
Oh my god. So yeah, all right, so flounder, drop
the ball, fittie, how about you.

Speaker 1 (24:11):
Yeah, My gift for my dad was was probably the
was my favorite gift that I gave.

Speaker 2 (24:16):
Did you give the reaction or did you get the
reaction that you were expecting?

Speaker 1 (24:20):
Yes, because like most married men, my dad does his
shopping very last minute, So like on Christmas Eve, he
was still waiting on his biggest gift to still be delivered. Thankfully,
FedEx came through and it got delivered nice, and he
came in. It was like an a FedEx bag and

(24:41):
it was the perfect sage for me to put the
two gifts that I gave him inside the bag. Like
as much as I love the gifts that I gave him,
it was the reaction because I knew he was gonna
do that.

Speaker 2 (24:52):
I reused his bag and the way that I was wrapped.

Speaker 1 (24:55):
Was like kind of it's kind of hard to wrap
a bag, and so like he was just looking at
not knowing what was inside. And I got him like
a Freddie Freeman ornament for the Christmas tree.

Speaker 2 (25:07):
Oh very nice.

Speaker 1 (25:09):
And and he knows how much, first off, I hate
Freddy Freeman, how much I hate the Dodger. So he
knew that, like it hurt when I swiped the credit
card to buy the gift, and I was like, hey,
it wasn't wasn't the easiest purchase, but that was probably
because the reaction I got. And then he knew I
was actually a pretty a pretty good gift, so oh
very nice. And then my brother I got him, you know,

(25:31):
I got him a Dean Smith book and Roy Williams
book and he was already a third of the way
with the Dean Smith book on on Christmas Eve night.

Speaker 2 (25:39):
Dang he went before. Yeah, it was, it was, it was.
It was tough. What about you strow best gift, best
gift that you gave.

Speaker 4 (25:46):
Yeah, my mom she loves puzzles, so my dad and
I kind of chipped in together and got her some
some old puzzles, like a thousand piece puzzles. But when
I got my dad, I think was pretty cool. He
likes to grill and stuff like that, and and the cooks.
I got him a bunch of different seasonings from a
guy Kuso on TikTok and Instagram and stuff like that.

(26:06):
Really cool seasonings, all natural, all made here in the USA,
no preservatives any of that. So RFKM proofs probably, But yeah,
I got him like twelve different seasonings. So as much
as I think he was excited to use him, I'm
more kind of excited to see what he makes with them,
so better start cooking. But yeah, I mean it was
it was simple stuff, but the reactions were good. So

(26:27):
that's all you can really ask for. Seven o four
five ninety sixteen.

Speaker 1 (26:31):
We want to hear from you on the fan jual
text line best gift you received, best give you you
gave this Christmas season, Let's turn our attention to the
Carolina Panthers.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
No practice yesterday.

Speaker 1 (26:41):
They were all for the holiday, so really nothing to
really update outside of what happened on Wednesday, which was
the last time the team was on the field for practice.
T Mac did not practice on Wednesday because he was
out with the rest. Both Trevon Wallace and Turk Wharton
both that they were both out there working their way
back from injury that caused them to miss the game

(27:02):
last week. Robert Hunt opened his twenty one day practice window.
He was limited, but that's a really good sign for
him in that Pantther's offensive line in both ikey Akwana,
who missed the Tampa Bay game as well and JC
Horn both were full participants. They'll be back on the
practice field today. Be the final update we get from
Dave Canais going into going into Sunday's game being ar

(27:26):
restident to see just where the Panthers do stack up
healthwise going into a game that could be a T
shirt and hat game. Is not officially a T shirt
and hat game, but it could be. If they win
and the Bucks lose, the Panthers would clinch the NFC
South on Sunday at Bank of America Stadium. I think
the big thing that came out was we got the

(27:47):
Pro Bowl rosters. Lovely ya and JC Horn going back
to the Pro Bowl. So that's a real cool deal
for him. It's a it's a good it's a good
thing for the Panthers to have some representation. But no
Dereck Brown on the on the Pro Bowl roster that
was announced on I think it was Wednesday when they

(28:07):
got announced.

Speaker 2 (28:08):
Maybe it was Tuesday.

Speaker 3 (28:09):
It was Tuesday because we did a little reaction to
it on UH West and Walkers or did you so
what what.

Speaker 1 (28:16):
What was the reaction because because you know, you know,
because I know in Wes Bryant's World Pro Football focuses
the gospel, and the gospel maybe doesn't love Derek Brown.

Speaker 2 (28:27):
Well, it does it, it doesn't, it does not, but
it also does not horns.

Speaker 1 (28:33):
I just I don't get how if you watched the
Panthers defense last year, yeah, you watched the Panthers defense
this year?

Speaker 2 (28:41):
Yeah, last year both.

Speaker 1 (28:42):
Yeah, there was no ninety five on the defense statistically
the worst defense in the history of the league. Yep,
this year, big, big ninety five is on the field
and they're a top half of the defense in the
National Football League. How is that guy continuing to not
get the recognition he deserves for being arguably a top
three to five defensive lineman in this.

Speaker 3 (29:03):
Because because people do read into the advanced analytics and
they say that, oh, well, you know, since Pro Football
Focus doesn't love them, well, then we can't vote for
him for the Pro Bowl. It's it's ridiculous because you
go back and look during that stretch of games where
he is quote unquote struggled.

Speaker 2 (29:22):
You know a game that's in there that he struggled
was the Rams game. Did we watch that Rams game? Honestly?

Speaker 3 (29:29):
Did you watch that game and say to yourself and
Derek Brown's having a tough day. He made the two
biggest plays in that game definition, and that's what I'm
asking for. Man, Your interior defensive lineman don't have to
dominate all the time. But if they can come, if
if it's like this and they can come and make
these plays when they need to, I mean, how can

(29:53):
you argue with that?

Speaker 2 (29:54):
I love them. I've said it all along.

Speaker 3 (29:57):
I think that he is right up there, if not
better than dexter La Warrence when people have had that
argument with me.

Speaker 2 (30:03):
I think he is so impactful.

Speaker 3 (30:05):
I mean, you're talking about a guy that literally set
the record for tackles by a defensive tackle.

Speaker 2 (30:14):
Just a few years ago. Yep.

Speaker 3 (30:15):
And now we look at what he's doing this year
and I mean the production is there. I mean, yeah,
are there games where we don't talk about him nearly
as much? Of course, but that's every defensive tackle. So
I love him. I think he should have been on
the Pro Bowl. But the Pro Bowl, dude, I saw
last night, Travis Kelcey made the Pro Bowl. How the

(30:37):
hell did Travis Kelcey make the Pro Let's be because
let's be honest with ourselves here. Do we really look
at the way that Travis Kelsey has played this year
and say in the old way that they used to
vote for Pro Bowlers, that guy deserves to be in
the Pro Bowl.

Speaker 2 (30:52):
He does not.

Speaker 3 (30:53):
No, So to me, that shows you right there that
getting to a Pro Bowl that it it's gotten to
the point now it means nothing to me, needs absolutely nothing.

Speaker 2 (31:05):
I want you all pro is what I'm looking at
at this point. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (31:10):
That's so, that's that's how I view a great accomplishment.
Congratulations to j C.

Speaker 2 (31:15):
Horn.

Speaker 3 (31:16):
But I mean the fact that Derek Brown isn't there,
it just shows you that it's a flawed process.

Speaker 2 (31:23):
Well, I I definitely just a few things, actually, I know.
Number one, I do think that you know, since they've got.

Speaker 4 (31:28):
Away from the Pro Bowl game and you know all
the all the old mini games used to have with
the you know, the skills stuff, with him having the
flag football and all that, I do think that the
Pro Bowl moniker has lost a lot of value and
a lot of weight. Secondly, Ultra nostalgia pointing this out

(31:49):
on the Fandel text on as well, that Derek Brown
was third in fan voting for for the Pro Bowl
for defensive line, but with the coaches and players he
did not make it in so kind of a La
LaMelo ball. And as much as it is frustrating that
Derek Brown didn't get the recognition there from from the league,
I'm not totally surprised by it. What really grinds my

(32:11):
gears though, is that he is still unable to be
bet on for Comeback Player of the Year. He's not
even like in the discussion of comeback Player of the Year,
but like Philip Rivers, has the third best odds, I
mean in that odds. So I think that's where I'm
more frustrated is that Derek Brown is not in the
comeback Player of the Year conversation.

Speaker 2 (32:29):
I think that is that is asinine.

Speaker 1 (32:30):
Well, speaking of the man himself and the frustration that
he is feeling. Let's hear from Derek Brown. He addressed
this thing on Wednesday with Vash. I heard from Carolina
Blitz A way to leave the tail.

Speaker 6 (32:42):
Derek, the obvious question is about you not getting elected
to the Pro Bowl.

Speaker 2 (32:46):
What are your thoughts on that? And you know what,
how did you feel when you receive the news that
you weren't gonna go? Oh disappointed?

Speaker 5 (32:53):
You know, being a competitive I am, I you know,
definitely want the opportunity to be able to, you know,
represent my team in the Pro Bowl. You know, it's
one of those things, you know, I guess my periers
and the coaches don't think I'm good enough to be
in there.

Speaker 2 (33:05):
So you know, I'll take that with a brandy salt
and just keep working.

Speaker 6 (33:08):
Does that make it sting a bit more because usually
it's the other the fans don't get it right, and
then the players and the coaches.

Speaker 5 (33:15):
Are like, uh, I mean I think you know which
whichever way you look at it not getting you know,
it's frustrated, but I mean it is what it is.
I still got a lot of a lot of ball
to play here, and so I mean, you know, I'm
looking forward to the opportunity for that.

Speaker 2 (33:28):
That boy gonna play it angry.

Speaker 1 (33:29):
There's yeah, there's I think you're gonna see, not that
he's not motivated. I think you're gonna see a pissed
off Derek Brown because, as he mentions, like, you know,
we we got you know, the as Shoppy pointed out,
the fans were doing their part. This is now, you know,
the coaches and the players don't think this guy's Pro

(33:49):
Bowl caliber and It's like, dude, this guy kicks your
ass a lot of times on Sundays.

Speaker 3 (33:55):
Yes, you would think that the coaches that he's played
against would have put him in the Pro Bowl. And
I mean, now other coaches. I mean, look, it's understandable.
You are coaching. This is why this is also flawed.
You are coaching your own team. Players are playing for
their own team. How honestly, how worried are you about

(34:16):
the rest of the league. I mean, you've got so
much that's on your own plate. How are you supposed
to keep up with everything else that's going on around
the league to know who should be in the Pro Bowl.
That's a stupid way to vote on the Pro Bowl.
I just feel like here, like, here's the thing.

Speaker 1 (34:32):
With all the big games that Carolina's played in so
far this year, the game, the Rams game, the Packers game,
the Bucks game, you're telling me that going into these
Marquee games, it wasn't on the mind of Todd Bowles, Lafleur,
whoever we got to take away ninety five.

Speaker 3 (34:50):
I mean, that's that's the main guy you got to
prepare for on defense. You ain't who else on this
defense orre you honestly saying, man, we got to take
that guy out of the game.

Speaker 2 (34:58):
And I mean, like I don't have the Staton front
of me.

Speaker 1 (35:00):
I would argue, he's what top three five in the
NFL's was a double teams he has to face. I
would expect that if he demands that much attention, it's
not because he's buns. So that would suggest to me
he's at least a Pro Bowl caliber player. And if
this was just a situation where there were just too

(35:23):
many good players to pick from, okay, I could maybe
hear you out.

Speaker 2 (35:28):
But as the sittle Bulldog rights in on the Fanguel.

Speaker 1 (35:31):
Text line, Quinn Williams made the Pro Bowl and he's
been in the conference for like six weeks.

Speaker 2 (35:39):
Y'allso plays with the Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (35:40):
Well, I mean, look, if he had an all if
he had an all around great season, then I would
understand it. He was not good when he was with
the Jets. There's a reason he got traded guys his name. Also,
he wasn't playing well. So I mean, yeah, when you
look at and when you put these guys, if you

(36:00):
honestly asked everybody in the league, who do you think
is a better player? I don't see how they would
possibly say Quinn Williams. And I think Quinn Williams is
a good player, a very good player. But do I
think that he's on the level of Derek Brown.

Speaker 2 (36:18):
I do not think so.

Speaker 3 (36:20):
Like as you said, they this is a guy that
completely changes everything that you do.

Speaker 2 (36:27):
Defensively.

Speaker 3 (36:28):
You went from being one of one of the worst
defenses we have ever seen, were the worst run defense
that we've ever seen, to being a middle of the
pack defense and one that is, you know, on the
precipice of making the damn playoffs.

Speaker 2 (36:47):
That's not nothing. That's that's huge.

Speaker 3 (36:50):
So he deserves a lot of a lot of praise
for that, and it just seems like the rest of
the league doesn't look at it that way.

Speaker 1 (36:59):
Yeah, it's it just makes you wonder, like, wait, wait,
what does Derek Brown have to do? You can't remember
he was off the NFL top not play not play here. Yeah,
I mean that's basically that, that's the answer that you
you come to at that point. It's it's it's it's
small market bias. And because up until this year, this

(37:19):
organization has done nothing but lose on his watch, I
think it is it impacts the narrative around him, I think,
I mean, I ultimately think that's why Wes Bryant thinks
it feels the way he feels about Derek Brown.

Speaker 2 (37:31):
He can use pff to to justify it.

Speaker 1 (37:33):
But because Wes, you know, is a fan of a
proud organization, he thinks that you're only good if you
if you're playing on a winning team.

Speaker 3 (37:41):
And it's like, no, you're a winning team. They're they're
a winning team. Now they're eight and seven, what I mean,
what more do you want? But the past seven years
have been certified. But yeah, like you can't hold that
against this year.

Speaker 1 (37:54):
But but it's happening because he's one of the best
interior defensive lineman this game has to offer.

Speaker 2 (38:00):
Yes, I believe that he should be in the Pro Bowl.

Speaker 1 (38:03):
But because the narrative on this organization under David Tepper
has been.

Speaker 2 (38:09):
Buns. Yeah, I was I was gonna say something else.

Speaker 1 (38:14):
They didn't know if I didn't know if I could
say it on the air, so I refrained from saying
So boy, I do think it impacts the way that
our players are viewed here and the only way to
change that keep winning. Beat Seattle on Sunday, win the
stamn division, get into the playoffs, kick someone's ass win
a playoff game, because then then you can't run from it.
Then you have no choices to talk about this team

(38:35):
in a way that they should be talked about, because
they are last time I checked a division leader in
the National Football League. Sports Radio ninety two to seven WFNC,
the Young Guns were in for Mac and Bone here
on all it's a football Friday, it's a panther Friday.
It's also the Friday after Christmas. We come back, we'll
turn our attention to college football. Big news for the

(38:57):
game Cocks going into next season. We'll talk about that
next right here on Sports Radio ninety two to seven
wfn Z, Final segment.

Speaker 2 (39:17):
Of the six Am hour.

Speaker 1 (39:19):
Here on Sports Radio ninety two to seven WFNZ, the
Young Guns were in for Mack and Bone. They'll be
back with you on Monday for a panther Monday here
to hopefully recap a big win over Seattle, and then
they won't be back again till the next football Friday
for the regular season finale against the Bucks that more

(39:39):
than likely will be the game that determines who wins
the division of the NFC South I want to talk
a little college football FLA. We're gonna go back to
back segments. Actually, oh yeah, which college football? When do
you look at just a little a quick like news
and notes segment? You know when we were in on
I guess it was Tuesday, Yeah, that was it.

Speaker 2 (39:59):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (40:00):
We had all the news around North Carolina and the
potential hire of Bobby Vatrina, which still has not been finalized.
Gotta love it, Bryce Baker entering the portal, Go Lopez
set to return. Talk about another team locally that's got
some pretty big news going into next year. That's South Carolina,
you know, coming off a disappointing year four and eight,
one and seven, and the SCC after starting the season

(40:23):
preseason ranked I think it was eleventh or twelfth and
the eight peopole, and a lot of people thought the
game Cocks were poised to go to the CFP. That
turned out to not be the case, but their two
most important pieces for next year, with Norris Sellers at
quarterback and their pass rusher Dylan Stewart, both are set
to come back next year, which I think is a

(40:45):
good thing.

Speaker 2 (40:45):
Obviously for Shane Beemer.

Speaker 1 (40:47):
I think it does kind of speak volumes about what
he's created there in Columbia, where those two guys could
have endured the season that they endured with all the
expectations and falling short. But they want to stay with
that program and kind of see this thing through. Obviously
they're getting compensated very well. You know, Lenoris was going

(41:08):
to be highly sought after it if he transferred, there
would have been, you know, in Miami, maybe North Carolina.

Speaker 2 (41:15):
Some other schools that would have went after him.

Speaker 1 (41:17):
If Dylan Steart would have went Portaling, he would have
been highly coveted because he's going to be a first
round pick in the NFL Draft whenever his college career
does come to an end. I kind of set the
topic up like this with those two guys back, and
there's so much unknown at UNC Clemson. Of all the
local disappointing teams from twenty twenty five, is South Carolina

(41:41):
on the inside track to have the bigger bounce back
season in twenty twenty six?

Speaker 3 (41:45):
Well, of course, because this is a year where they're
gonna come in with no expectations. It's going to be
an even numbered year, and that seems to be the
years that we see this group throt'. It's the weirdest
thing under Shane Beemer, the odd number years they are
they struggle. Anytime they have expectations, they fall they fall flat.

(42:09):
But the years that they don't have any expectations where
people are like, yeah, how good is this team really
gonna be, that's when they always find a way to
put together a pretty strong season. And I think you'll
probably see it again this year. You've got a quarterback
who look, I don't think Wes was arguing with someone
on the text line the other day saying that he
believes that Leonora's Sellers is the next Anthony Richardson.

Speaker 2 (42:32):
I don't think he's that inaccurate.

Speaker 3 (42:35):
I think, you know, with Anthony Richardson, I mean, the
accuracy issues were very well known. I think Leonoris, just
you know, behind a terrible offensive line, really struggled this
past year. So hopefully they can remedy that offensive line.
That's gonna be the big key. They've got to be
able to run the ball a lot better too. I Mean,
they were absolutely horrible at running the football this year,

(42:58):
and that's a big part of the reason why was
so easy to just pin your ears back.

Speaker 2 (43:01):
And get after Leonora's sellers.

Speaker 3 (43:04):
But yeah, I mean, you get Dylan Stewart back on defense,
You're hoping that, you know, another year for a lot
of those guys, they end up improving on that side
of the football as well.

Speaker 2 (43:14):
And then you get Nick Harbor back too.

Speaker 3 (43:16):
I mean, hopefully he turns out to finally be what
they were expecting they were gonna get. I mean, he
was better this year, but he still isn't the guy
that I think they thought they were getting out of
the high school ranks. So I think they're in position
to be able to bounce back, mainly because you look
at you look at what Carolina is doing. I there's

(43:41):
there's nothing that guarantees you this is going to be
successful with Belichick at this level, even if he does
bring in Bobby Petrino, there still are some areas that
Caroline has got to be a lot better in than
they were last year. If they're running it back with
Goo Lopez, who knows exactly what that's gonna look like,
the expectations.

Speaker 2 (43:59):
Would not be high.

Speaker 3 (44:00):
And then Clemson, I don't know that anything's changing at Clemson.
I don't I don't know that he's gonna that Dabbo's
gonna hit the portal hard. Like if you're if you're Dabo,
I think that's the biggin looking for like Josh Hoover,
Sam Levitt, like, these guys should be on your on
your contact list, you should be in contact with these guys,

(44:23):
I think.

Speaker 2 (44:23):
But I don't think that's gonna happen. Yeah, they're the
program that.

Speaker 1 (44:29):
Should bounce back the biggest because they're they're they're a
national championship pedigree program, right.

Speaker 2 (44:37):
I just think.

Speaker 1 (44:39):
I think the Dabo dynasty, whatever we want to call it,
I think it's done. I don't see Clemson getting back
to where they were when they went to the CUS
Role Playoff five straight years. And I'm not saying that
I'm rooting for that because I like, you know, I
like when because his Dabo is such a you know,
polarizing figure, like when they're in the conversation. You know,

(45:02):
it's fun for us here locally, and I think it's
really good for college football because he's a sound bite
waiting to happen every time he's behind the microphone. But
if he does not change the way that he's running
his program, and this will be the tell tell sign
if they don't hit the portal the way that other
championship caliber programs have went to the portal Ohio, State, Bama, Georgia.

(45:27):
And then I think that's going to be the writing
on the wall. And you know he's he said going
in that, Hey, we're gonna we're gonna be more open
to it, but we're also going to do this the
right way and wait until the portal officially opens January tewod.
If you're a Clemson fan, what's your hope is that
that's his message but not his action, Yes, because if

(45:50):
that's his action, they're gonna be behind when the portal
opens here in a week, Like when the portal opens
next Friday. You know, if they haven't been working behind
the scenes, they'll still get players because it's Clemson. Are
you getting the cream of the crop? That answers probably
know because you know you haven't been doing what you

(46:12):
had to do and in terms of striking these deals
and these deals are being struck now.

Speaker 3 (46:16):
Yeah, I said that when I heard that audio, I
said to myself, this seems this seems way way too
conservative from him, Like, if you're a Clemson fan, I'm
the look I'm not saying you should be steaming mad
because I think you can still get some guys from
the portal, but in terms of the top guys, like, dude,
they're being talked to by these other schools, you don't

(46:39):
I And look, I'm not saying you have to come
out and say, hey, we're going to talk to these guys,
but just don't say anything. Just go out and contact
these guys like that's what you're hoping for if you're
a Clemson fan, is that. Yes, behind the scenes, they're
they're working some of these deals because you you are
you need a lot. I mean, look at all the

(46:59):
all the guys that you're losing to graduation or to
the NFL. There's gonna be a lot of areas that
you've got to plug this year, and the best way
to do that is through the transfer portal, not through
high school recruiting. So I'll be interested to see the
strategy there. But it's why I think South Carolina's probably
best position to bounce back. But nothing, as we've seen
with Shane Beemer, nothing is guaranteed. No, You're right, and

(47:23):
I think next year will be make or break for him.

Speaker 1 (47:26):
They go eight and four, he'll probably have a job
in twenty twenty seven, if they're five and seven, six
and six, with just how fed up that fan base gets,
which is one of the richest things in sports, is
the way that fan base conducts itself. I could see
them moving on in a different direction. We had a

(47:48):
Tampa Tammy siding during the segment. Yep, that's the quick issue.
Has walked by these studios all year long. Now I
understand why when I wish Mac see we don't think
she was going to be here.

Speaker 3 (48:03):
Oh she had Why did she walk quickly because she
had to look at you because our teams got beat
by the Panthers.

Speaker 2 (48:10):
Oh okay, Oh I'm sorry, and I'm.

Speaker 1 (48:12):
Better looking than you. So it's probably because she saw
You're the first thing that she saw. So it wasn't
it wasn't because of me. But Tampa Tammy, I think,
is starting to face the reality that the Carolina Panthers
are going to win this division and her team is
going to go out with a whimper and probably fire
us head coach, and hopefully she's she still shows up

(48:34):
when the Panthers actually win this division. Because I want
to watch Mac Harasser in the hallway for a two
minute commercial break Sports Radio ninety two seven w f Z.

Speaker 2 (48:41):
We come back.

Speaker 1 (48:42):
We'll turn our attention to the college football playoff. We'll
look at the matchups in the quarterfinal round a little
early before we preve them before we preview them officially
next week. You're listening to Sports Radio ninety two seven
w fn Z.
