Speaker 1 (00:00):
We welcome you to Mac Talk Titans HA the bye week,
and we'll go through who is playing and what they're
playing and where they're playing.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
You're the Indianapolis Colts.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
We'll also talk about NFL trade deadline that saw quite
a few transactions today.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Coach Mac, let's go ahead and go to the phone.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
Six one five seven three seven one four five, Erica, Nashville, Hello, sir,
all right.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
Hey guys, it's all it's a pleasure to talk to you. Hey,
you guys. Before I get to the football stuff, I
want to talk to you about. I just wanted to
ask you, guys quick, this is baseball, But did you're
about the wild story that happened in Game seven of
the World Series between the Dodgers and the Blue Jays.

Speaker 4 (00:39):
No, what are you talking?

Speaker 5 (00:40):
What what?

Speaker 4 (00:41):
I watched the game? I don't know what wild story
are you talking?

Speaker 3 (00:44):
Well, remember, of course, the two home runs that were hit.
One was hit in the ninth ending the tire game
and the one was hit in the eleventh end and
the wind the game. It was caught by a father
and son. The father caught the home run ball in
the top of the ninth end and the tie of
the game, and the son caught the game winning home
run to win win the ball game for the Dodgers,

(01:04):
said both diehard Blue Jays fans. I started a little
while ago on the news. So both balls were expected
to go for about a million dollars. Father and son
caught it, and they said, last year, I guess it
was a Grand Slam home run and the Yankees Dodger
series went for like one point six. But they think
the minimum both of those balls would go for as
a million dollars.

Speaker 6 (01:21):
So well, if they were Toronto fans, then the disappointment
of losing the World Series would be off set by
that million dollar ball.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
And not only that, but they but both of them
catching separate baseballs like that. They won the lottery twice
and one night.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
That's crazy.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, what are the odds of that?
You know, I'd be interesting guys as far as the football.
First of all, I wanted to say I shout out
to my fans friends in section three twelve. They were
wondering about me. I actually got invited the club level section,
So if you're listening, I was in the club level
section to a good friend of mine hadn't seen a
long time I used to go to church with inviting
me to sit with them in the club level section,

(01:57):
and I couldn't turn that down of Sunday. But let
me I got.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
A question, did you wear your poncho in the club?
Did there?

Speaker 2 (02:07):
You have it?

Speaker 3 (02:08):
Yeah? Yeah, And a lot of people complimented, got nice
compliments on it too, Very good guys. One of the
things were so frustrating, I'm sure you know about this
is we've now lost I guess it's like eight in
a row at home, which is a long sluic streak
in the NFL. We still have five home games left
and I'm still hoping, guys in playing that we can
break that streak and win a game because I want

(02:29):
to celebrate a victory for the Titans fans and everybody
else at home. But the one question I know you
said you're going to get to the NFL trades, just
wanted to get your thoughts who you thought was the
one team that maybe one trade today, who maybe you
think probably didn't get the value they thought they should
have gotten. And do you think the Titans with a

(02:49):
few traits that they made, got some good value with
the trades they made?

Speaker 5 (02:52):
Guys?

Speaker 3 (02:52):
Is always going to talk to you, tighten up, enjoy
you by week, and we'll see you in a couple
of weeks. When we played the textans sounds good.

Speaker 6 (02:58):
Eric, appreciate the call, all right, Eric, Yeah, Well, you know,
of course, the trades, I mean they're putting grades on
trades is like putting grades on the draft. I mean,
you don't really know until things play them play themselves out.
But all of these teams that made trades, and the
Titans included, feel like it's the best thing for their.

Speaker 4 (03:15):
Club when they make the trade.

Speaker 6 (03:16):
I've been involved with a lot of trades in my
years in the league, and there's a lot of phone
calls that go back and forth, there's a lot of
negotiations that go back and forth, and so a deal
is made when both sides feel like they're at least
getting some plus out of it, and there's different reasons
that both teams will believe that they benefited from the trades.

Speaker 4 (03:36):
So to put grades on trades.

Speaker 6 (03:39):
Is I mean everything, everything is so particular to that club,
to that situation. You know, you can't because any type
of a grade really doesn't make any difference. I mean,
both both teams have agreed to something they think is
that they think may improve their club, either now or
if you're trading for future draft picks in the future.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
H And as far as the Titans trades, obviously they
didn't trade for someone. They traded a couple of players away.
And it's clear what the motive is there is to
get more draft capital, because in both cases it was
someone with an expiring rookie contract and someone that was
on a one year deal. And the Draymond Jones thing
really kind of works out to their advantage. God had

(04:21):
four and a half quarterback Sackson's last four games and
Baltimore has had a serious issue with pass rush ability,
and they were ready to flip the switch and do that.
So you got a fifth round of that's conditional could
turn into a fourth I don't think.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
That was a bad deal at all.

Speaker 6 (04:38):
No, I mean, you're not gonna make You're not gonna
make it. You're not gonna make a bad deal. You're
gonna make a deal for your own particular reasons. So
that's why I say, I mean eat each each team
that decides to make it to make a trade. And
as I said, I've been involved personally with a lot
of these trades and being involved in negotiations for it.

(05:00):
You're not ever going to give something up that you
don't think you're getting at least something back. But the
thing about it is, it's not a it's not a
quid pro quoe deal. It's what is best for your
club at the time. That's what the.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
Deal is, without giving away who the potential trade partner was.
What's the craziest thing somebody asking a potential trade.

Speaker 4 (05:22):
Well, you always start out.

Speaker 6 (05:23):
I mean, if somebody's asking for a trade, they'll always
start out asking for way more.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
Oh that peel you off the ceiling.

Speaker 6 (05:29):
It's an old yeah, No, no, no, it's it's I mean,
you've you understand that the first the first thing that
you talk about is clearly not going to be the
terms of the trade.

Speaker 4 (05:39):
Yeah, I mean that's just.

Speaker 6 (05:40):
I mean you can when when that starts, you can say, okay, good,
now what are we talking about, you.

Speaker 4 (05:47):
Know with the Charles Dickens, Yeah, don't don't. Let's get
down to what we're really talking of. The brass tacks here, Yeah,
going back and forth.

Speaker 6 (05:56):
So, I mean it's a lot of the things that
are thrown out early on are a little bit ridiculous
at the time. But the fact of the matter is
is that if you're having conversations, that's what it's important
as long as the lines of communication are open. When
you're making trades, either trades this time of year, it's
a lot different. Now during the draft, it's different because

(06:18):
you're you're on the clock. I mean, you're on a
clock and there's I mean, it's it's a little bit
more pressure. Plus you know, you're basically you're basically trading,
you know, for for a what if because you don't
know you've evaluated the players, which you don't know. Now
you're trading for a player that you've seen play and
for either some reason that you think that you know,

(06:38):
his time with your place is run out, and then
you're trying to get some commensurate value either now or
in the future for him. Those are those are different conversations,
completely different conversations.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
All right.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
So to recap that, there were eight total trades today
up against the deadline, and obviously physicals uh passing, physicals pending,
But eight trades in the day of the deadline is
second most, tied for second most in the last thirty
five years since the night.

Speaker 4 (07:06):
Let me just say. The reason I think that is
because they've moved this back. They moved the trade date back.

Speaker 6 (07:11):
The trade date used to be earlier than what this
is now, So now teams have a little bit more
of an idea those are are making a playoff push,
and that may have suffered injuries, you know, to this point.

Speaker 4 (07:22):
I mean, that's a big part of.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
It, right, because a lot of these teams are into
the meat of the schedule now and you bring up
something that is right off the topic, right off the
top here in terms of somebody right under the deadline reported,
and that's the team we just saw the Los Angeles Chargers.
We saw Joe Alt go down. He is out for
the year. Bobby Heart, they're right tackle got injured in

(07:45):
that game. They're already down Rashawn Slater, who's on IR
And so they make a trade this afternoon with the
New Orleans Saints, which is they trade a twenty twenty
seven to sixth round pick for former first round pick
Trevor Penning, who has had his own issues. They did
not exercise his fifth year option, so he's an expiring

(08:07):
rookie contract. They'd moved him to guard this year, and
he had had his moments where he was having issues there,
but they needed a body.

Speaker 6 (08:15):
Yeah, well, I say, and the Chargers you know, probably
went into this weekend not thinking of doing that at all.

Speaker 7 (08:22):
No.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
Absolutely, they'd just gotten Joe Alt back.

Speaker 6 (08:25):
Yeah, to your point, Joe Alt had just had just
come back. They felt like they're piecing things together, and
then you saw, you know, what happened against the Titans,
and the Titans took advantage of it, you know, with
six quarterback sacks, and so they had to do something right.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
The Chargers also made a last minute trade and sent
just Seer Taylor, the defensive back, to the New York
Jets for a twenty twenty eight seventh round conditional pick.
So the other biggies in this started the day out.
Logan Wilson, the linebacker and defensive stalwart for the Bengals,

(08:58):
traded to the Dallas cow Boys for a twenty twenty
six to seventh round pick. Jacoby Myers, who we just
saw with the Vegas Raiders, traded to Jacksonville for a
fourth and a sixth round twenty twenty sixth pick. And
they needed that because Travis Hunter is on injured reserve
right now for a minimum of four games. And then

(09:19):
Brian Thomas Junior was a handstringer an ankle. Can't remember
what it was, but he got dinged in that game
they had the other day, so they needed somebody else
to come in there. I and Eric asked us about
potential winners and trades. I tell you one that I
think is probably a winner, just based on seeing Seattle
the other night and seeing how well they're playing. Rashid

(09:41):
Shahed sent to the New Orleans from the New Orleans
Saints to Seattle, and they sent a fourth and a
fifth round pick in next year's draft for him.

Speaker 6 (09:49):
A guy can play, Yeah, the guy can play. But
I'll tell you who else can play the Seattle Seahawks.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
They can't.

Speaker 6 (09:55):
I mean, just watching that game the other night, that's
the first time and we're gonna have to You're gonna
have to play them.

Speaker 4 (10:00):
So was doing just a little bit of TV scouting
on them.

Speaker 6 (10:03):
They got a good football team and so they are
one of those teams that's making a push there in
the NFC West.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
Joe Tryon Shoyinka, who was formerly with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He was with Chicago with the Bears, was sent this
afternoon to the Cleveland Browns for a twenty twenty sixth,
seventh and a sixth and seventh round pick in next
year's draft. Dallas active in this as they trade with

(10:31):
the New York Giants. They send a second round pick
and a twenty twenty seven first round pick, the highest
of their multiple picks because they had that windfall of
picks when they sent away Micah Parsons. They send that
to the Jets for Quinn Williams, and they also sent
Mazzi Smith, who they had had on their roster for

(10:53):
a couple of years, as a part of that trade.
The big one that rang the bell, though, is Indianapolis.
Clearly by this trade showed they're opening up their super
Bowl potential of what they think their super Bowl window
is wide open, and that's by sending a twenty twenty
six and a twenty twenty seven first round pick and
ad Mitchell the wide receiver to the New York Jets

(11:15):
for a mod Sauce Gardner.

Speaker 4 (11:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (11:17):
Well, and that's because they feel like they're just that
one player away, especially because of the way their offense
is playing.

Speaker 4 (11:24):
I mean, they've got it.

Speaker 6 (11:24):
They've got a real chance, you know, to make to
make something happen. They really they felt like that they
really had a spot that they needed to show up,
not just not just somebody to come in and fill
a spot, but somebody that could take them over the
top on defense, especially back there in the back end.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
And a place that they have had injury problems with.

Speaker 6 (11:44):
Correct And that's why I say different clubs do it
for different reasons, but they are right on the on
the They are right on the doorstep now of having
a big time run in the in the NFL postseason tournament,
and so that's why they did it. Now they gave
up Here's the thing, They're probably going to have a
pretty good record. So their first round pick that they

(12:04):
gave up for probably next year.

Speaker 4 (12:06):
Is not going to be very high.

Speaker 6 (12:07):
Yeah, I mean it'll be bottom third of the first round.
And so you're willing to do that. They're taking a
little bit of chance that they're going to be able
to sustain it giving away the twenty twenty seven first
round pick that it'll be down there too, But they
feel like that what sauce Gardner can bring coverage wise
is worth that.

Speaker 1 (12:26):
And sauce Gardner was already paid his second contract so
they pick that up and he's under contract for I
think the next four seasons, so there's no negotiation with
any of that.

Speaker 4 (12:35):
Yeah, they'll pay every bit of that.

Speaker 2 (12:37):
They'll pay all of it.

Speaker 1 (12:38):
And the other part that this just outside looking in
tells me is that you've got to figure that Daniel
Jones is going to get a monster extension off of
the one year, fourteen million dollar deal past the twenty
twenty five season at some point, because you wouldn't make
this if you didn't think he was going to be
it going forward. The other part of the to is

(13:00):
Anthony Richardson would be in the final year of his
rookie deal in twenty twenty six with no dead cap
hit if they release him in twenty twenty six.

Speaker 6 (13:08):
Yeah, I don't think Anthony Richardson even figures into the no.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
No, no, But I'm just talking about the math of it.

Speaker 4 (13:13):
Oh, the math of it, You've got exactly right.

Speaker 1 (13:15):
Yeah, But that that, uh, that was interesting to see
them make the move that they did today.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
And you know, would they don't.

Speaker 1 (13:26):
They don't play half seasons, but if they did, they'd
be the number one seed in the AFC right now.
So they they have a belief that this is the
time to make a run. And if if they keep
healthy and they keep playing the way they've been doing. Uh,
they got to got themselves a legitimate chance.

Speaker 6 (13:42):
They got a really legitimate chance because they can score
and they score a lot.

Speaker 1 (13:46):
All right, Brett Bryan along with the head coach of
Titans Radio Dave McGinnis. Six five seven three seven one
four five is the number if you'd like to call
and ask coach Mack a question, just like Jordan and
castallions rings hello and say hello to coach Mack.

Speaker 7 (14:03):
How you doing, Coach?

Speaker 5 (14:04):
You do?

Speaker 4 (14:05):
Hey, Jordan doing good?

Speaker 6 (14:06):
Thanks for calling in tonight. Hope you're doing okay tonight?

Speaker 7 (14:10):
Yes, sir, yes, sir, so, I have a question about
Will Levis Okay, do we do you think that Callahan's
offense didn't do him any justice as far as maybe
trade value or did it as far as maybe the
uncertainty on what type of quarterback he might be and

(14:30):
what type of future do you think he has elsewhere
as far as maybe trade value for the Titans in
the off season.

Speaker 4 (14:38):
Well, he's injured.

Speaker 6 (14:40):
He's injured right now and he's rehabbing. He's having in
LA and None of those things will be answered until
you see what type of rehab he's had and how
and how he comes back. He's about I think he's
at a point in his in his rehab where he's
probably about he's probably about at the midway point in it.

Speaker 4 (14:58):
So it's it's way too early.

Speaker 6 (15:01):
He's a young player, but the way that he comes
back from this injury and this surgery is going to
have a lot to do with what his future is like.

Speaker 4 (15:09):
So it's way too early.

Speaker 6 (15:10):
To even speculate. I would be speculated on that and
anybody else that would try to give you a definitive
on what his future would be right now because of
the surgery. You don't know how the surgery, you know
how he will come back from that. All of those
things put that right now in the category of weight
and see.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
Yeah, because he has to be cleared medically. So yeah,
it makes total sense. And that's a pretty lengthy road
back to your point. So just over halfway through the
twenty twenty five regular season, when the Titans returned to
action a week from Sunday, they'll take on the Houston

(15:53):
Texans at Nissan Stadium.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
We'll be on the air at eleven.

Speaker 1 (15:59):
Kick off at twelve two, and it's wild to think
only three more road trips out of that. The rest
of them are at home, which is fantastic. It just
tells you how much we've traveled in the first nine
games too.

Speaker 4 (16:13):
Well.

Speaker 6 (16:13):
I mean it's you know, regardless of whether you're home
or away, you just need to start playing better this
second half after the break.

Speaker 1 (16:20):
Absolutely, all right, let's go to Bob in Bellevue. Hello,
you're on with coach Mack.

Speaker 5 (16:27):
Coach.

Speaker 3 (16:27):
Good to talk to you.

Speaker 6 (16:28):
Hey, Bob, thanks for calling in tonight. I hope your
evening's going good.

Speaker 5 (16:32):
It's going great. I've just got a very basic question,
just something that's a pet peeve to me. How long
ago did the NFL start playing or you have two
division teams play each other two out of three weeks.
I think it stinks. And are we always going to
have that?

Speaker 6 (16:48):
Yeah, well, what you're going to have and you're talking
about you're talking about a sandwich game where you play
where you play an opponent, have another opponent, and then
you play the same opponent again.

Speaker 4 (16:57):
It happens. It happens.

Speaker 6 (17:00):
It's happened forever, and especially once they divided up into
all the divisions that they have now, then it's it's
inevitable that it's going to happen. What you as a coach,
I can tell you I've experienced it several times. And
as a coach there's two things. Now, it's always a
division game, correct, because those are the only two people
you're gonna play twice.

Speaker 4 (17:20):
You're gonna play twice in a year.

Speaker 6 (17:22):
And so when it when it happens, the thing that
you do get an advantage on it is that is
it it's an easy turnaround as far as being able
to gain plan and knowing who you're playing. The issue
with it, The issue with it is is depending on
how healthy you are the first time and how healthy
you are the second time. But once they divided it

(17:45):
into these types of divisions, I've experienced it as a
coach in my thirty one years of coaching, and it's
just something that you deal with on both ends. A
lot of it depends too. And it's a good question,
you know. I like it because as a coach, when
you look at it, you say, all right, this is
the sandwich game. Then you look and see is the
is the beginning of the sandwich at home? Or is

(18:05):
the ending of the sandwich away. That makes a difference too.

Speaker 1 (18:09):
The other part of it, Bob, to coach Max's point,
it's really become more prominent since they realigned the league
back in two thousand and two. And then as these
television contracts became more and more valuable, they they you know,
have started you know, you'll if you'll notice, about ten
fifteen years ago, they really started backloading these things down

(18:29):
the stretch for teams that are in contention.

Speaker 5 (18:32):
Well, what I don't like Number one, it's the opposite
of variety. I mean, I just saw, I just saw,
you know, we'll play you a week ago, and now
next week we're going to play you again. But also,
let's say your quarterback is out, he misses three straight
games and two of those are against your rival. That's
that's the worst right there. I mean, you could lose
the division because you didn't have your quarterback for either

(18:54):
game against your division rivals. So anyway, I hate it.
It's not gonna make me stop watching the NFL.

Speaker 4 (19:01):
That's hey.

Speaker 6 (19:03):
When you talk about injuries, you're talking about the luck
of the draw in this league.

Speaker 1 (19:06):
Brother, Yes, sir, Bob, will you appreciate the calls good night.

Speaker 5 (19:09):
Hey, thanks.

Speaker 1 (19:12):
Yeah, it's it's not everybody's favorite, but it is what
it is, right, Yeah, you can't do anything about it.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
There's very little you can do about it. In fact,
well no.

Speaker 4 (19:19):
That's not true. There's not very little. There's nothing you
can do about well.

Speaker 2 (19:22):
Yeah, let me close my eyes. I'll tell you what
I see. Nothing nothing. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (19:26):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
I was going as he was called.

Speaker 1 (19:28):
As Bob was calling in, I was looking at the
remaining strength of schedule for every team.

Speaker 2 (19:34):
Let's see what you how good you are with this?

Speaker 1 (19:37):
Who do you think has the worst strength of schedule
the rest of the way out?

Speaker 2 (19:41):
Number one of the thirty two?

Speaker 4 (19:44):
Let you talking about the worst, the hardest.

Speaker 2 (19:45):
Strongest, Yeah, yeah, hardest.

Speaker 4 (19:48):
I don't know. Titans might be pretty close.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
They actually have the easiest, one of the easiest. They're
at twenty six. The Buffalo Bills have the hardest the
rest of the way out.

Speaker 4 (20:01):
Who they got left?

Speaker 1 (20:03):
I'd have to look and see. I just got this
off of something they did on the athletic today. You
know who has the easiest is the Philadelphia Eagles.

Speaker 2 (20:12):
Isn't that wild? Yeah?

Speaker 6 (20:13):
And I see, of course a lot of this is
subjective right now, I'm going sure when you start looking
at it, because just like what Bob brought up, how
about if they lose, if those teams that have that
have the easiest lose their quarterbacks, or those teams that
have the hardest they lose quarterbacks off of those opponents
they're playing. You just don't know in this league, and
injuries play such a huge part in this.

Speaker 1 (20:34):
And Jacksonville's sixth toughest and Houston fourteenth toughest, and you
would think they'd be in the top half of that
because they've been winning the division. Indianapolis twenty first in
toughest remaining schedule. But I found that interesting just to
kind of see how the rest of that plays out
for these teams. Buffalo not a surprise that that would

(20:56):
be it, rightly, so oh uh, the young man just
keeps playing terrific football.

Speaker 2 (21:03):
But Mac, I have an honorary one for mixed mid season. Uh.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
And this is in my opinion, and I think you
would probably agree, and I would say Cedric Gray the linebacker.

Speaker 6 (21:14):
Yeah, and and what you know what the first of all,
chim uh you know, and you're hearing you're hearing the call.

Speaker 2 (21:19):
There.

Speaker 4 (21:19):
The thing about Chim that's that's unique is that he
talked about it.

Speaker 6 (21:22):
When he got the corner. It's hard to get the
corner in the National Football League. It's hard to get
to the corner because you got to have elite speed
to be able to outrun angles in the in this league,
especially if you go to the outside.

Speaker 4 (21:34):
He sets his he sets his returns.

Speaker 6 (21:36):
Up really well. You know, the Bones Fossil has it.
You know, every week they scheme up these returns. They
scheme up these returns the way that they're going to
block them, depending on the coverage strength that they're looking at.
But the fact that he's got the type of speed
to be able to outrun angles and get to the edge,
that's what makes him so special. And then when he
gets on a straight away, he can run run, I mean,

(21:57):
it's history when he takes off. So this guy, this guy,
he came on the scene as a returner, and some
people question the fact that he was gonna start to
be the starting returner because Bones didn't use him a
lot in the preseason.

Speaker 4 (22:12):
Because Bones knows what he's doing.

Speaker 6 (22:14):
He didn't use him a lot in the preseason, not
to expose him, but in practice, you and I watched
him all of the time, and we knew that this
guy is going to be the returner and he's special.

Speaker 4 (22:25):
He is special doing that.

Speaker 6 (22:26):
And now I mean he's getting a chance to play
a lot at receiver just because of the way that
the roster is. The guy has something though the two things.
He's a tremendous competitor. He really does a great job
of preparing. He's a good student of it. And then
he is blessed with some speed speed which is huge.

Speaker 1 (22:47):
And then, like I said, the mid season award winner
for service I think is Cedric Gray. He's been the
most consistent of just about anybody. Eighty seven tackles already,
sixteen tackle on Sundays had that's his i think fifth
game with double digit tackles. He's around the football, the
GPS as you say, no, he's.

Speaker 4 (23:07):
Really done a nice job, you know, especially and this
is basically his rookie.

Speaker 6 (23:10):
Year because he was hurt his ten games last year.
He was hurt his rookie year and he missed a
lot of development. Frank Bush has done a great job
with him. But Cedric Gray, you and I you know,
vet the draft really hard. We really liked him coming
out because he does. He's got he's a trigger linebacker,
and he's and he's he's physical, and he's got a
good GPS. He can find the football right now. I

(23:32):
mean two of the three highest linebacker tackles in Titan's history.
You know, I coached two of them, in Keith Bullock
and in Ron McKinnon. Those guys could find the football.
I mean they could just find the football. They had
an innate talent to find the football. And then the
coach didn't screw him up, you know, I mean it.

(23:54):
I mean, so but this guy, this guy is on
that on that kind of a path and he just
keeps getting He's consus he's a consistent football player and
he continues to improve. I really I like your pick
there because the guy and really he he wasn't the
starter when the you know, the season or when the
training camp started, as you didn't know where he was

(24:16):
going to be coming back off of that shoulder injury
that kept him out for ten games last year.

Speaker 4 (24:20):
So I really liked that pick.

Speaker 1 (24:22):
And James Williams, it was the com It was the
battle between him and James william James Williams is still
learning the position and is I think going to be
a nice player for them. He's just further behind in
progress because that wasn't his natural position in college exactly.

Speaker 6 (24:38):
I mean, Cedric Gray was a legitimate, legitimate linebacker right
in North Carolina.

Speaker 1 (24:42):
James in Bradyville, or as we say at Bradeval has
been waiting patiently.

Speaker 2 (24:48):
You're on with coach mac.

Speaker 8 (24:49):
What's up, James, Hey, Coach Macarett. This question is just
a fun hypothetical, But I'd like a straight answer from
y'all because my answer is the same as even before
the draft as it would be today. But I would
like to know, knowing what we know now, after having
seen the rookies this year, who would you go back?

(25:10):
Who would you say you would draft with our first
pick from last year? And I know it's not Camboard,
at least I don't think it is. But tell me
what you guys think. I'd love to hear your your
thoughts on Matt and I'll hang up and listen.

Speaker 2 (25:22):
All right, James, appreciate you calling.

Speaker 4 (25:24):
Yeah, James, thanks for calling. I'd still take the quarterback.

Speaker 6 (25:26):
I mean, you had you needed a quarterback and then
clearly and you still do and you still need one
to develop but I would absolutely have taken the quarterback.

Speaker 1 (25:34):
And James may have seen something that I saw I
think today where people are already doing a mid season
redraft and having Jackson Dart one overall, and Jackson Dart
was not projected to be that high up. In fact,
until you got into the last month of the draft,
he was really thought about being in the you know,

(25:56):
the second round somewhere. But it's the quarterback, so all
of a sudden, and you know, teams go get with
it and Jackson is gonna be a nice player.

Speaker 2 (26:04):
But it also is about fit where you're going to Yeah.

Speaker 6 (26:07):
Again, I mean you start, you know, you start talking about,
you know, looking back on a draft. I mean, I've
done the draft for nearly forty years, and you can
always look back and say, you know, what if, But
that's not the way the draft works. You pull the
trigger at the time that you pull the trigger, and
some players develop quicker than others. But you know that

(26:27):
as far as as looking back in second guessing your picks,
that does you zero well, And.

Speaker 1 (26:32):
He's just he James was just having a good time.
Sure James was, And a lot of these folks do
those columns. It's like let's redraft and let's anyway. I'm
with you, though, I'd have still taken cam Ward the
quarterback because that's what the Titans needed the most. Yep,
and Cam Cam's gonna be all right. I don't think
anybody needs to worry about that.

Speaker 2 (26:52):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (26:53):
When we continue, we'll look around week ten of the
National Football League schedule. One of those international games come
up in Berlin.

Speaker 2 (27:02):
On Sunday morning as a part of that, and we'll.

Speaker 1 (27:04):
Continue to take your phone calls and questions and we
will look at some of what we may anticipate in
the college football playoff rankings when those come out for
the first time later tonight. As you listen to Mac Talk,
we are not Jay Harper. We are Rett Bryan and
coach Mac. Dave McGinnis back to wrap up the final
segment of Mac Talk on this Tuesday night and a

(27:26):
bye a week. We have some good questions, always good
questions on MAC Talk.

Speaker 2 (27:32):
Great. We encourage that Mac.

Speaker 1 (27:35):
The first of six different college football playoff seedings come
out later next hour. And it's interesting too, because there's
a new twist on this this year. They will use
a straight seating model, placing teams on the same line
in their bracket as their ranking, without regard to whether

(27:56):
they won their conference championship. As was the case in
the rollout of the expanded playoff last year. Five conference
championships are still guaranteed spots, and the latest AP Top
twenty five poll only the ACC Conference team. The only
ACC Conference team in the top twelve was number twelve Virginia.

(28:16):
No Group of five league had a leader anywhere close
to that. It means the bracket could include teams ranked
lower than that, knocking out program programs that the committee
ranks eleventh and twelfth, which is really interesting to see
how this one goes. And obviously the first one is
not going to be probably as the exact same as
the last iteration before they begin on was it December

(28:40):
the nineteenth or whatever it is. So based on what
I'm read right there and on the top twenty five,
the first teams that are potentially outter number eleven Oklahoma,
number thirteen Texas, number fourteen Louisville, Virginia, and number twenty
two Memphis would be in a head of the two

(29:01):
Red River rivalry teams because of that straight seating. That's interesting.

Speaker 4 (29:07):
Now that it is interesting, it won't last Oh no, no, no,
that won't last until the end of it.

Speaker 6 (29:14):
You know, I'm of course very interested in this because
I do coach to coach with Doug Matthews, and we'll.

Speaker 4 (29:19):
Dig into it.

Speaker 6 (29:20):
But the thing you don't know about the committee how
much how much is the strength of opponent is going
to play into this year's yep, because that was another
thing that they're looking at. But the thing that you
bring up, and that's very interesting what you just went through,
is that some of these teams that are in the
top twelve or top fifteen, they're going to be playing

(29:41):
each other now because you're getting down to the division games.
And what is going to start happening is they will
start to cannibalize each other. If you've got three losses,
you're out of it. And that's there's a lot of teams.
There were teams that were eliminated this last weekend with
that third loss.

Speaker 4 (29:58):
And so now once.

Speaker 6 (29:59):
You're playing, once you're playing tournament football, which is what
you're playing now in the n C Double A, it
takes the head to head stuff really starts to count
a lot.

Speaker 1 (30:10):
So the December December seventh day after the conference championships
is the last one of these to set the final
bracket in this, I would say we're probably in agreement
that the number one seats Ohio State, wouldn't you.

Speaker 4 (30:26):
It's either Ohio State or Indiana.

Speaker 1 (30:28):
Yeah, I mean, I mean there's there's undefeated teams in
this that's gonna be you know, because that next tier,
which are some under Indiana, Texas A, and M Alabama.

Speaker 6 (30:42):
In Texas A and M. I mean I read an
article today where their strength of schedule is number one
in the country right now as well what they've done,
So it's going to be very very interesting. I mean,
this is going to be and it's they're trying to
do it as much as they can to make it
be settled on the field. Rent, I mean, you and
I are both old enough to remember when they usould

(31:03):
just vote on it. It was it was just it
was just voted on without playing it out and selling
it on the field.

Speaker 1 (31:09):
Well, that's how so many of these college programs have
so many touted national titles. It's because somebody, some circulation,
some paper, said you're the national champion, and they take them.

Speaker 6 (31:20):
Yeah, are are are co champions and they're correct. They're
settling it on the field. Now, it's like it's like
in the National Football League. There is no doubt you
play you play it out on the field, and so
it's it's very interesting, I mean, and it's going to
be interesting.

Speaker 4 (31:35):
You say December seventh, so what are we another two
months away?

Speaker 1 (31:39):
Yeah, there's six of these. Is the first of six
six weeks where you go h Seats five through eight
could be Georgia, Ole, miss BYU Oregon, nine through twelve
could be Notre Dame, Texas, Tech, Oklahoma, Virginia. Right now,
Memphis is the only group of five team in the
AP Top twenty five. So I'm very interesting to see

(32:01):
this first one and just to see how.

Speaker 2 (32:02):
It evolves from there.

Speaker 1 (32:03):
As you say, they settle it on the field.

Speaker 4 (32:06):
They'll sell it on the field. Rett.

Speaker 1 (32:08):
All right, So the Titans are idle this weekend with
a bye week, and they're a handful of other teams Cincinnati, Dallas,
Kansas City or the others that have a bye week
this weekend. So Thursday night football starts with an AFC
West Division rival game in Denvert, Mile High Las Vegas

(32:28):
Raiders come to town.

Speaker 6 (32:30):
I mean, first of all, the AFC West is a
pretty good division, this year.

Speaker 2 (32:33):
Yes, it is.

Speaker 6 (32:34):
It's a pretty salty division this year, and we know
that firsthand having played those teams in that division. But
from the beginning, Denver has really been good and I
think that they're continuing to be good.

Speaker 2 (32:48):
Myself, I would agree with that.

Speaker 1 (32:51):
Sunday morning, and that's an eight thirty central kick from Berlin, Germany,
the Atlanta Falcons take on the Indianapolis Colts.

Speaker 6 (32:59):
Where they play in Berlin. Do you know off the
top of my head, I mean I spent a week
in Berlin, you know, playing in the Olympic Stadium one time.
We played the forty nine ers over there when I
was with the Bears. We spent a week over there
and then played in that huge, huge where they had
the where they had the thirty six Olympics. I mean,
it was very impressive, it was it was a great trip.

(33:22):
I just wonder where they're playing this one, Jane.

Speaker 1 (33:24):
Let me take a look here. See it's Olympia Stadion, Berlin.

Speaker 4 (33:30):
That's it.

Speaker 6 (33:31):
That's it, the one that's that's a massive, massive historical stadium.

Speaker 4 (33:36):
Really it's a cool setting, very cool.

Speaker 1 (33:38):
NFC South starts this noonslate on Sunday. New Orleans is
at Carolina. Carolina Mac is starting to play some good football.

Speaker 6 (33:47):
Well they're winning games, they are, and they're they're winning
games a lot of different ways too, So I mean
they've they've done a nice job.

Speaker 4 (33:54):
They really have.

Speaker 1 (33:55):
The g men go to Soldier Field to take on
the Bears. Those always interesting. In the AFC South, Jacksonville
is at Houston at NRG Stadium on Sunday at noon.

Speaker 6 (34:07):
Yeah, that's a that's a big game for both of
those teams in the AFC South, and it's kind of
a bounce back game too for both of those teams.

Speaker 1 (34:15):
Absolutely, Buffalo is at Miami, and if Buffalo didn't shoot
off their fingers and toes, that should probably be Buffalo.

Speaker 6 (34:22):
You would think you would think it would be. I mean,
Miami's got some issues.

Speaker 1 (34:26):
Here's a really interesting and a really solid I'm surprised
it's not an afternoon Slate, a late afternoon Slate game.
Baltimore is at Minnesota. JJ McCarthy's back and he's dealing
pretty good.

Speaker 4 (34:40):
But well, Baltimore's got their quarterback back.

Speaker 2 (34:42):
Too, and boy do they ever so.

Speaker 6 (34:44):
I mean, here's you know, Baltimore, this is that, what's
Baltimore sitting at right now three and five?

Speaker 4 (34:48):
Is that what they are?

Speaker 2 (34:49):
I think that's correct.

Speaker 6 (34:50):
Yeah, and so they're going to make a push right here.

Speaker 1 (34:53):
How about this one for a noon game that might
be later and I'm interested as to why it wasn't flexed.

Speaker 2 (35:00):
New England at Tampa. Yeah, that's pretty good matchup.

Speaker 4 (35:03):
That's a that's a big time matchup.

Speaker 6 (35:05):
I mean New England is playing really really solid, consistent
football this year, very good. And you know, of course
we were down there with Tampa for a week working
out against them.

Speaker 4 (35:14):
They've got a good squad.

Speaker 1 (35:16):
The Arizona Cardinals at Seattle. That's a three zero five
kick in Arizona. Uh that has come out officially with
Jonathan Gannon. They are going with Jacoby Brissett the rest
of the way.

Speaker 6 (35:27):
Well they should. I mean I was impressed. I was
impressed with the Cardinals on Monday Night football. You know
what they did to the Cowboys. I mean, they're a
legitimate team. And then you know, of course, you know
they've got one of my favorite players, one of your
favorite players over there on defense that's fifty seven years old.
I mean, Kalais Campbell is still just tearing things.

Speaker 2 (35:48):
To forty and he is a wrecker.

Speaker 6 (35:50):
I mean, but they were impressive in that game down
there in Dallas.

Speaker 4 (35:55):
I mean, this is a this will be a good game.

Speaker 1 (35:57):
The Rams are at Levi's state him to take on
the forty nine Ers at three twenty five. I'll be
interst you to see if that is Mac Jones again
or if that is brock Purdy. Yeah, wells brock Purdy
I think is getting closer to returning.

Speaker 6 (36:09):
He's getting closer to returning. I mean, I was in
the NFC West for six years. That's a it's a
good division. It's a really really good division. And that's
a huge rivalry too, La and San Franz, a huge rivalry.

Speaker 1 (36:23):
Another three twenty five kick, Detroit goes to FedEx Field
to take on the Commanders, and of course Jaydon Daniels
just located elbow and so that will be Marcus Mariota
at quarterback for the Commanders.

Speaker 6 (36:36):
Well, I mean in Detroit needs to use this ball
game to get healthy with I mean especially I hated
the fact that Daniels got hurt. I mean as an ugly,
ugly the ugly injury. I hated the fact that he
got hurt. But they need to take advantage of that.

Speaker 1 (36:53):
Fresh off of a physical thumping of the Indianapolis Colts
last week, the Pittsburgh Steelers go to SOFI at take
on the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday night football.

Speaker 4 (37:03):
Yeah, that'll be very interesting.

Speaker 6 (37:04):
I mean, that's quite that's a trip for Pittsburgh to
go out there. But again, I think the Chargers are
a good football team, but they're not unbeatable.

Speaker 1 (37:14):
Well, the other part of it is keeping Justin Herbert
upright with all the tackle issues they've got exactly exactly.
And then Monday night, the Eagles are at Green Bay
to take on the Packers at lambeau Field. So another
one into books mac a bye week edition, we remind
you there off this weekend, Sunday, November the sixteenth, they're

(37:38):
at Nissan Stadium to take on the Houston Texans nine
o'clock against coverage here on the Zone. We're on at
eleven with Titans countdown kickoff at twelve oh two with
Taylor Zarzer and coach Mac Dave McGinnis right here on
your flagship for Titans Radio and Joseph Bonano behind the
glass making it work. I hope he feels better in
this for coach Mac Dave McGinnis, I'm Ret Brian. We

(37:58):
thank you for listening to Mac Talk
