Speaker 1 (00:00):
We welcome you in on this chilly Tuesday evening to
another edition of Mac Talk. We welcome you back from
a bye week that the Titans had in week nine
or week ten, I should say week eleven around the corner,
and I want to take a moment to introduce a
special guest. And first of all, let me say thanks

(00:20):
at Coach Mac. I know we'll thank everyone properly, all
the service folks out there, servicemen, service women that have
served our country in any capacity for the armed forces.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Today's your day. We appreciate you.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
We could not do anything day to day without what
you do for us and have done for us sacrifice
wise for our country. And with that being said, my
very good friend from up Kentucky Way is retired Army
Vet Eddie Brown.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
Hello, sir, how you doing d Eddie?

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Welcome?

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Welcome.

Speaker 3 (00:52):
This is Eddie.

Speaker 4 (00:54):
Came in and was with a studio with Rett and
I earlier this evening and we've been chopping it up
for quite a while. And anytime I'm able to be
with one of our distinguished veterans, it's a it's a
real real honor for me. Of course, everybody knows my
relationship with Pat Tillman and with with with the military.

(01:17):
But when for Eddie to be here with us tonight
on MAC talk is a real privilege. So thanks for
being here, Eddie.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
All the pleasures all mine.

Speaker 5 (01:25):
I'm a little star strug right now, don't be And uh,
I really appreciate the opportunity for you all to invite
me on airwaves and spend some more time with you all.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
Well, it's our honor and we'll talk throughout the hour.
In fact, I want to talk about what you and
I did earlier today that relates to cornerback Darryl Baker Junior,
who is the Titans nominee for the Salute to Service
Award winner in the National Football League.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
It was really cool.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Uh, let's go to the phone six seven three seven
one four five. First up, as he usually is, Eric
and Nashville.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
How we doing it.

Speaker 6 (02:00):
Oh, I'm doing great. But before I get to what
I want to talk about, I just wanted to thank
tell your guests thank you for your service and fighting
for our freedom. And I've had relative family members, friends
who have served and all different types of military service,
whether it's in Vietnam, World War War one or two,
or Desert storm. So just thank you for the service
and with what you do, because I know a first
I don't know if I'd have the guts or would

(02:21):
have had the guts to do something like that, But
thank you for your service.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
No, I appreciate it. It was an owner of my life.
I appreciate it.

Speaker 4 (02:28):
Yeah, Eric, what you got tonight? You're always the first caller.
We love having you on Mac Talk and we love
having Eddie here with us tonight.

Speaker 6 (02:35):
So what you got, well, I appreciate that, coach man. Basically,
it's just a simple quick question. And of course we're
coming off the by and got the game Sunday. What's
the latest on some of our injured players like Kevin Ridley,
Different Simmons and some of the other players that have
banged up. They're going to be available to play Sunday. Guys.
Is always good talk to you typing up. I look
forward to being at the game Sunday and my punch.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
There you go, all right, sir?

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Sixty eight degrees, partly cloudy, a little win out of
the north ten to fifteen, so the poncho will come
in handy.

Speaker 4 (03:07):
Now, poncho will be will be rocking. I really don't
know we'll find out this week of practice exactly.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
Where they are.

Speaker 4 (03:15):
I mean, we would be speaking out of turn right
now if we were to say distinguished on Tuesday to
designate what they would be. You would hope that they
would be getting closer to coming back. And especially you
know with the open date, the thing that you don't
want to do, Eric, and you know, I've known this
in the forty years that I've been coaching in this
league or have been.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
Involved in it.

Speaker 4 (03:36):
You don't ever want to rush a player back before
they are ready to play, because that's that's the important
part is is the player's health first and foremost.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
You know where we all want to win ball games.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
And you can win ball games when your best players
are there, but clearly you want them to be healthy
when they're when they're ready to play. We will see
this week. We will you know, they had had a
little bit of a practice on a Monday. We will
find out though once we get into the week, especially
we dig into it Wednesday and Thursday, as to where
they will be, I'm like you, I'm hoping that they
will be back because you know, as to where hope.

(04:11):
Hope is never a strategy, but I'll tell you this,
with those guys back in the lineup, you've got a
better chance to have success.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Oh boy.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
And already got some good news potentially that the team
dropped yesterday as running back in rookie Kalel Mullings and
also safety Mike Brown, who has been heavily counted on
in special teams and also playing in the secondary, have
started their protocol to return to play in this and
so they are back to the practice part of it

(04:42):
with a chance to get back in the mix. So
looking forward to that as we get down to these
last eight games.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
Of the twenty twenty five season.

Speaker 4 (04:49):
For sure, it is a big is a big Titans fan,
and so I know that he would probably weigh in
on that. I mean, you don't have to be a
real deep fan of the Titans to understand that Jeffery
Simmons is very important to what's what's.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
Going on when you concurse.

Speaker 5 (05:05):
Do you think he's extremely important to it? Extremely Hey,
I'll say this about it.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
Of course.

Speaker 4 (05:12):
I enjoined vision with him most of the afternoon this afternoon.
Got a good radio voice too, by the way, the
baritone there, you got a good baritone standing on the airway.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
Very good. He tell us a little bit about your service.

Speaker 4 (05:25):
You were you were you were a pilot, You were
in the black Hall helicopters.

Speaker 5 (05:30):
Yes, no, well, I was a I was ah well
when I joined a military in two thousand and oh,
Lord have mercy two thousand and five, a few years
after UH nine to eleven happened. Then I was stationed
at all majority of my career. All my career, I
spent over at Fort Campbell. Uh. I was deployed there

(05:52):
three times, once to Irack twice. The Afghanistan I was.
I was an enlisted soldier and I was a in
one of my tours, my second, my first tour to Afghanistan.
I was a crew chief on the Black Hawky Waight
sixty at one hundred first Aviation Aviation Brigade And uh

(06:12):
go lanswers by the way, fading my lances that are listening, absolutely,
And yeah, it was just I spent I said, uh,
I said, A good part of my my all. I
put my service there and and I enjoyed the area.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
You know.

Speaker 5 (06:27):
Of course had you know, bad times, you know, but
for the most part, I just enjoyed my service.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
Uh well to me and again Uh.

Speaker 4 (06:37):
We talked at length this afternoon about you know, my
association with Pat Tillman and then with the wounded warriors,
and you know, from that aspect of it, but anybody
that has served, especially in those tours of duty over there.
I mean, I look, I'm I'm a football coach. I
feel very inadequate, you know when I when I talk
with people like yourself that have sacrificed to do this

(07:00):
for our country. When I was a head coach at Arizona,
I was telling you that I got to fly down
there at Luke Air Force Base in an F sixteen
and address the officers club and address uh, the uh,
the enlisted men, and I felt so inadequate just being
on that base and and and seeing what those those
men and women do every day in the service and

(07:22):
the protection of our country. So it's a real pleasure
for Ret and no how to have you here on MAC talk.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
It really is the pleasures all in mine.

Speaker 5 (07:29):
Like it's it's It's funny because a lot of people
when they when they see the military, they see the uniform,
and you know, they see the you know, the the
marching and time and all that and uh, but it's
always good for some people that haven't seen that type
of lifestyle to actually come in to, you know, to

(07:50):
see what it's like on a post or or what
the soldiers deal with daily and go through. And by
that part, I commend you one hundred percent. Like I
told you before, the stories that you tell about pat
it resonates in the military community, so we would definitely
appreciate that from that aspect.

Speaker 4 (08:10):
Well, that's that makes me feel good. But I just,
you know, I do it. I do it because you know,
I feel like that it's it's not only appropriate, but
it's needed.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
It is definitely is definitely So.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
Eddie and I have been friends for about a decade
now and we connected through Titans, and you know, He's like,
I can't I don't know how I can repay you
for what you're doing. I'm like, I'm trying to pay
you back for what you did for us on three
different tours plus so I'm always in your debt one
hundred percent.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
But what we did earlier today.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
And you've heard the Titans may have may have heard
the Titans talking about this, but cornerback Darryl Baker Junior
is the twenty twenty five Titans nominee for the Salute
Service Award, and that's in conjunction with USAA and the
NFL's part partnership, and they'll get down to three finalists
in January, they'll have one single total NFL league wide

(09:07):
award winner that'll be announced at the NFL Honors the
night before Super Bowl sixty. Well, Darryl Baker Junior is
very qualified for this award because both of his parents
are retired army and serve many tours overseas like yourself, Eddie.
And as a part of Salute to Service Month and
certainly Veterans Day, today we went to Operations Stand down, Tennessee,

(09:28):
which is just down the street from the studio here
at twelfth Avenue South, and they've been there for quite
some time and they are a huge.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
Help to veterans in the community.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
In fact, a lot of the veterans that we had
some fun with this afternoon were or in their transitional
housing program, so they help people from CouchSurfing and worse,
they find them a place to lay their head at night,
and that should be the very least we should do
for them for what they've done for our country. So
long story short, Darryl Baker Junior, Quarterback Kendallbrook and linebacker

(10:00):
Cody Barton showed up and Titans cheerleaders t Raq and
Eddie was my guest, and so we had lunch, the
players served all of the veterans, and then we had
some very spirited rounds of bingo, and I was the
bingo caller, uh and so it got a little spicy

(10:21):
there towards the end because they were there was some
serious competition and not just with Titans players as you
would expect. But it was a fantastic time and the
Titans Foundation presented a very nice check to the operations
stand down Tennessee with with Darryl Baker Junior.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
It was an awesome afternoon. I'm glad I got to
spin it with you.

Speaker 5 (10:44):
I appreciate the invite from from you and the Titans
organization like that.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
That was the That was.

Speaker 5 (10:52):
One of the most funs I had in a long time,
just being able to talk with other veterans, just getting
the experience that they that they deal with a while
and so servis and after service, and then just seeing
the joy, you know, in the faces and the attitude
that those Titans players had was it was phenomenal.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
The Titans players, the staff. It was just a.

Speaker 5 (11:12):
Welcoming environment and I really really enjoyed myself.

Speaker 4 (11:16):
Well, there's not enough that I mean, of course, the
Titans are tremendous. The Titans, the things that they do
for community and for the veterans are just are are
really really I mean, I've been with the Titans for
a long time and it's it's something that's very very
important to them. But there's not anything that any of
us can ever do to repay all of you veterans
for what you've done for us.

Speaker 5 (11:38):
Well, like I said, it's a way I always view
it's it's been an honor and like, so we we
know that you know over on Fort Campbell, you know,
we know that the Titans in Fort Campbell, we've always
had that relationship for a long period of time. And
I said, this is really appreciated. Just that you haven't
forgot about the soldiers once they leave their tour of service.

(12:02):
You know that you guys always looking after him, and this,
like I said, is really appreciated.

Speaker 1 (12:08):
And by the way, I would like for Titans fans
to vote for Darryl Baker Junior for this chance at
this honor by going to NFL dot com and you
can find it. In fact that Tennessee Titans dot com
has a landing page with a link where you can vote,
and you can vote once a day now through the
end of the month November thirty. And like I said,
they'll have three finalists in January and then the single

(12:30):
award winner will be named at the NFL Honor celebration
the night before Super Bowl sixty. And Darryl Baker Junior
is certainly deserving of and has earned a chance at
an honor like this, just because of his background and
knowing he lived it as an army kid, so and
seeing mom and dad go off for months and months
at a time, and to see him reappear and be
glad for that and have him home for a couple

(12:51):
of months, only to rense.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
And repeat and have him go out again.

Speaker 1 (12:54):
So he's been there and done all that, and he's
a fantastic person and obviously a pretty dog gone good ballplayer.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
He wouldn't be in the National Football League. So there's that.

Speaker 1 (13:02):
Let's go quickly to the phones here to David and Lebanon,
who's been patient.

Speaker 7 (13:06):
Hello, sir man of knowledge, how are you tonight?

Speaker 4 (13:11):
David I know you can't be talking to me. You've
got to either be talking to Rent or to our
distinguished guest here. But it's always great to hear from you, David.

Speaker 3 (13:18):
Thank you.

Speaker 7 (13:20):
It's great to hear from y'all, and thank you very
much for your service. Sir, if mind, if y'all don't mind,
I'd like to send out a special shout out to
my dad, Willie Lee AINJ who served in the Navy
during World War Two. So Daddy, we appreciate you. And Uh.
Second of all, I want to thank all the men

(13:40):
and women who suit up and put that uniform on.
They're truly great heroes. And uh, the men who put
on that uniform Sunday. Uh, we're going back you, guys.
We're going back you. No matter what think about Dallas.
Thing't ben you a playoff or super Bowl and a

(14:00):
lot longer than we have. We've been to a super
Bowl before they have, so you know I still got you. Titans.
Love you, guys, and man in knowledge. I appreciate your
d I appreciate you, and Sir, I appreciate your service.
You'll have a great night.

Speaker 1 (14:14):
David, thanks for the call, and we appreciate your father's
service to the country and the big, big, big conflict
in World War Two.

Speaker 4 (14:22):
Absolutely, and that's what this show is about. Tonight's while
we have Eddie and here as a special guest. I mean,
we really feel deeply about about our veterans and about
the military and what they what they do for our country.

Speaker 3 (14:34):
And David, that was really a great call. Really appreciate you.

Speaker 4 (14:37):
You're a true Titans fan, and we appreciate that.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
I'm just gonna make them three players because what I
saw them do with veterans today, make them that, especially
since there was a bye week, and that's cornerback Darryl Baker,
junior cornerback Kendall Brooks, and linebacker Cody Barton. They did
some excellent community work with some veterans. Think they had
as big a time hanging out with all them as

(15:04):
as the vets actually did.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
I took more away from it than anything.

Speaker 3 (15:08):
Well, those are quality of human beings. And then Eddie,
you know, Eddie.

Speaker 4 (15:11):
Eddie was there, and those players are genuine, They're they're
genuine people, they really are. I mean, all three of
those guys. You made a great choice when you took
them down there to see the veterans.

Speaker 3 (15:22):
And you know, Eddie.

Speaker 4 (15:23):
Eddie was talking, he said he really appreciated just how
just how real the players were with the vets.

Speaker 2 (15:29):
Oh yeah, yeah, definitely.

Speaker 5 (15:31):
I mean it was you know, there was no putting on,
there was no you know, fakeness about it. It was
just genuine enjoyment that you've seen the player with the
players interactions with the veterans. And the veterans could feel
that too, you know, I mean they they I could
tell they really appreciated, you know, taking pictures and you know,
I didn't see the players frown once. You know, it

(15:51):
was all smiles. So we really really enjoyed that interaction
with them.

Speaker 4 (15:55):
Yeah, talk to us a little bit more, Eddie about that,
because that perspective from you means a lot, because your
rett does a lot with the community with with our players.
Our players do a lot in the community. The Titans
do a lot in the community. But just talk to
us about from the people that that get to experience
it with these players, how much it means for them
and for the Tennessee Titans to do that.

Speaker 5 (16:17):
Oh yeah, so a lot of you know, well, like
I told you guys before, I work with a lot
of our youth and and I've worked with a lot
of veterans, and you know, we can always tell when
people aren't completely genuine when they're out, you know, interacting
with with us.

Speaker 2 (16:36):
And with the Titans organization.

Speaker 5 (16:39):
You would you would being able to talk with a
NFL player, you would automatically think, well, they we don't
have really anything in coming with them. But when just
speaking with them and being around those players, it was
just like, you know, they were my neighbor, you know
what I mean, it was just just a coming. You
could the genuine, you know, the genuine interactions that they

(17:01):
had with us. It means a lot. It doesn't seem
like they were didn't seem like they were forced to
be there. And I'm sure both of you guys can
can attest that. You you know, what it's like being
around somebody that feels like they're forced to be, you know,
around you are forced to be somewhere. And anytime I'm
around dealing with anything with the Titans organization, nothing seems forced,

(17:22):
just seems completely genuine and and I know I feel it,
and I'm almost positive that veterans and and people in
in the community feel that same way about the organization.

Speaker 4 (17:33):
Well, that's that's great to hear in red And there's
other people there, you know, like that you had, you
know from the Titans organization that you always have.

Speaker 3 (17:40):
In these things that you do.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (17:43):
And it's not only the players, it's it's everybody involved
with that, with that, the Titans in the community program,
right sure.

Speaker 1 (17:50):
T RAC cheerleaders and obviously Brooke Johnson and Caroline Palmer
and Josh Corey and just there's so many wonderful people
that work in those departments to get out and do
service work in the community.

Speaker 2 (18:06):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (18:06):
Cody Barton hopped on a FaceTime call with his oldest son, Austin.
Oh there today, So that was pretty cool.

Speaker 5 (18:13):
Yeah, he Uh, Cody, I called my son, just kind
of surprised that they had a doctor's appointment, and I
called him. I showed my face, you know, I said, Austin,
are you busy? He was like, no, no, I'm good dad.
So I said, somebody want to speak to you. So
I gave the phone to Cody, and Cody's face was
just as bright as all get out, smiling talking to Austin.
And I looked over at my son and his mouth

(18:33):
was dropped. He's smiling, eyes a big so it's yeah,
it meant a lot. It's memories like that are going
to live a long time in our household.

Speaker 4 (18:42):
Well, and I think that's important too, And it's important
for us here on MAC Talk to be able to
recognize those people in the Titans organization that do that,
Josh Corey and as you say, Broken Caroline t Rack
that the whole group and the cheerleaders. I mean, they're
an important part of all of this, and they give
time for these things that are very, very important, and

(19:03):
I just that's why I'm so happy that And look,
you know, with.

Speaker 3 (19:08):
All clear being honest here, you.

Speaker 4 (19:11):
Know, when I showed up at the studio today, you know,
there's other things I had to do this morning. Rhett
and Eddie were already here. I had no idea Eddie
was going to be here. So but as soon as
I walked in and he introduced me to Eddie and
I said, this guy's coming on our show. And so
to me, that's what's important is those kind of connections.

Speaker 1 (19:30):
And so hats off to those three guys doing excellent
work today out in the in the real world. All right, So, guys,
the Titans host the the Houston Texans this time. Second
meeting of the year Sunday at Nissan Stadium and mac
the Texans had the second biggest comeback of their franchise history,
down twenty nine to ten at the beginning of the

(19:52):
fourth quarter twenty six unanswered, and they get the win
over Jacksonville at home, and did it without a lot
of their regular starting cast, including quarterback CJ.

Speaker 2 (20:03):
Stroud.

Speaker 1 (20:04):
Davis Mills engineered three different drives. I think it was
thirty three plays on the three drives in the fourth
quarter all resulted in touchdowns.

Speaker 2 (20:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (20:13):
Well, Davis Mills, you and I've talked about this before.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
Rhtt.

Speaker 4 (20:16):
I mean all the years we've been doing this together.
He's not an empty chair down there. I mean, he's
a very viable backup quarterback. We always talk about quarterbacks
time on task. You keep hearing me say that that's
so so important. I mean, this guy started twenty six
games in his career, so when he was called upon
to have to come in there, and the other thing
that impressed me about that game and watching it is

(20:39):
that they never really skipped a beat and he did it.
He did it not only throwing the football. They're running
the football very very well right now. But the real
strength of that football team, as it was the first
time that the Titans played him there is I mean
they shut the Titans out the first time they played
because but their defense has been very strong all year.

(20:59):
You've got all the you're always my alphabet numbers, gun, Yeah,
you get all the Beton numbers, you get all the
guy you get all the all the data points. But
their defense is really strong red.

Speaker 1 (21:09):
It is, and it's led by Will Anderson Junior and
by Daniel Hunter.

Speaker 2 (21:14):
And by the.

Speaker 1 (21:14):
Way, when you say game wrecker, Daneil Hunter in that
game Sunday seven tackles, four for loss, three and a
half quarterback sacks, eight quarterback pressures. Both he and Will
Anderson account for fourteen and a half of their twenty
two team sacks, and the two of them combined come
make up eighty six of the team's quarterback pressures.

Speaker 4 (21:35):
Now that's a record crew. I mean, that's a wrecking crew.
And that's what that's what they've done. That's they're playing
really good defense. You know, as he's Outshire is behind
the ball, playing very very well their secondary.

Speaker 3 (21:46):
They're able to play a lot.

Speaker 4 (21:47):
Of man coverage just because of the fact that they
can pressure the quarterback. I mean, it's a complete football team,
but you brought up Davis Mills. Davis Mills not only
filled in, he scored one of those touchdowns running fourteen yarder.

Speaker 3 (22:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (22:02):
I mean, he wasn't just sitting back there like a statue.
And he wasn't just handing the ball off to Chubb either.

Speaker 2 (22:08):
He was.

Speaker 3 (22:09):
He did a really nice job. But that's what you get.

Speaker 4 (22:11):
When you get a veteran quarterback, you know, as you're
backup in there. And so that was a huge win
for them too, because that keeps him still right in
the mix of the AFC South, and.

Speaker 1 (22:21):
He dealt one an incredible throw to Dalton Schultz to
keep on drive going. Though Nico Collins seems like he's
getting cranked back up again. And of course there are
the rookies from Iowa State that they drafted in Day
three who are contributing as well. This Houston Texans defense,
this Tale of the Tape, It's impressive. Number one in
the NFL and yardage allowed two sixty one point three,

(22:43):
number two in yards per play allowed four point sixty three,
number two against the rush, ninety yards per game, Number
eight in rushing yards per play at three point eight nine.
Number four against the pass only allowing one hundred and
seventy one.

Speaker 2 (22:58):
Yards in that category.

Speaker 1 (23:00):
Number three in passing yards per play only five point
five six, and their interception rate three point six one.

Speaker 2 (23:10):
Number two in the NFL. Number three third down defense.

Speaker 1 (23:16):
In the league only allowing thirty three percent success rate
against opponents.

Speaker 2 (23:21):
Sixteen first downs allowed. Number three in the league.

Speaker 1 (23:26):
Number one scoring defense in the league, allowing sixteen point
seven points per game.

Speaker 2 (23:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (23:31):
Well, and again, you know when I when I talk
about alphabet numbers, we're talking about PFF and and all
these ESPN stats. And that's especially at this point in
the season. You kind of got the stats as to
where those numbers kind of correlate to what you're looking
like on tape. I study the tape and then you
bring all of this all the other stuff to the table.

(23:53):
Which that's how we put together our broadcast. And it
goes without saying, and you really don't have to be
watching very closely to understand that this is a dominant
defensive football team.

Speaker 1 (24:06):
It is, and it's reflected by some of the offensive
numbers that stand out because of that defense plus six
and turnover ratio that's top five. And then the other
one they are number three in the league in time
of possession on offense at thirty two and a half minutes.

Speaker 4 (24:23):
Well, now you're talking about complimentary football now, because all
of those things that you hear us talk about not
only on this program, but then during the broadcast. You know,
when we dig into this, you know in our pregame
programs that we put out to tell you a little
bit of what the opponent looks like and what you're
going to have to deal with with the opponent. I mean,

(24:45):
it's not that we're just we're throwing things out there
to say, well, these people are really good or these
people are really bad. We're just giving you the facts
and the facts when you study tape. But when the
numbers and the tape line up, then you know what
you're looking at is very real.

Speaker 2 (25:02):
It absolutely is.

Speaker 1 (25:04):
And the three possessions that Jacksonville had in that fourth quarter,
I think there were three and out, three and out
and then the last one was the strip sack force
fumble returned by Sheldon Rankins for a touchdown. And that
was Willie Anderson with the quarterback sack and strip.

Speaker 3 (25:21):
Well and so again.

Speaker 4 (25:22):
Then we'll go over a little bit about what you
know this weekend will be for the Titans to play
this ball game, the things that you have to do
to be able to counterbalance some of those things.

Speaker 3 (25:32):
Edie's a big fan, I know he is.

Speaker 4 (25:34):
He's going to be at the ball game, and he
could probably sit here and talk about this just like
we can, because he's been a fan for a long time.

Speaker 2 (25:42):
He absolutely his Oh no, not at all. And I
don't know, you guys love him, but I know.

Speaker 5 (25:49):
I know that this this Texans team is going to
be definitely gonna be a tough task. I know one
thing for sure is that it's not gonna be a
good game if we don't put pressure on that quarterback.
So that's that's going to be for me from my
point of view. I think that's going to be the
key to this game, is we got to put pressure
on meals.

Speaker 1 (26:09):
I think the other one that Mac would point to
is getting the run game established, because they're stingy against
the run. But that's the way that you can keep
this thing kind of in between the white line, so
to speak.

Speaker 4 (26:21):
Yeah, and just just what he's saying, what you don't
want to do when you're playing a defense like this
about coach defense in this league for a long long time.

Speaker 3 (26:29):
And I do know this.

Speaker 4 (26:30):
If I'm if I'm a defense defense and I just
have to defend one thing about your about your game,
the advantage goes to me. So you need we need
to be able to put their defense and we're talking
about into it into a two way strut. And what
I mean by that is is they have to be
able to not to be able to play the run
and the past fifty to fifty because once you start

(26:52):
getting it towards the if you get behind the chains
against this group and you let them start digging there
those cleats in the ground and lashing the passer just
to his point on their side of it, you.

Speaker 2 (27:03):
Have problems all the way.

Speaker 1 (27:06):
The final segment of Mac Talk, Rhett Bryan coach Mac
Dave McGinnis our special guest this hour, retired Army vet
Eddie Brown, friend of the program, Friend of Titans Radio,
Friend of the Titans.

Speaker 2 (27:22):
Are astute producer Joseph.

Speaker 1 (27:23):
Bonano said, Hey, dumb, dumb, he didn't really say that,
but he could have the college football playoff bracket dropped.
And so let's go through that for just a moment.

Speaker 3 (27:34):
Joseph's on it. He's on it, he's on.

Speaker 2 (27:36):
I'm not so much on it.

Speaker 1 (27:38):
So the other five conferences there, you knew there'd be
a different twelfth seed in there after Memphis lost last
Friday to Tulane. I think it was thirty six thirty
thirty eight, thirty six. Anyway, South Florida the Bulls are
the twelfth seed in this interesting took place today. They
would face the number five seed Georgia Bulldogs. The winner

(28:00):
of that group would face the number four seed Alabama.
The number nine seed versus number eight seed. It would
be Notre Dame versus Oregon. The winner of that game
would face the number one seed Ohio State at the
eleventh seed the Miami Hurricanes. They would take on the
sixth seed Texas Tech Red Raiders. The winner of that

(28:21):
group would take on the number three Texas A and
m Aggie's and then the final bracket number ten Texas
Longhorns versus the number seven Old Miss Rebels, and that
winner would take on the number two seed, the Indiana
Hoosiers football team.

Speaker 4 (28:38):
You know, tournament football has coming, that's coming to NCAA.
It makes it, it gives it a whole different vibe,
a whole different vibe to this, especially for the last
three weeks of the season. Eddie, I know you're following
college football. Do you like the playoffs in collegiate football?

Speaker 3 (28:55):
Now?

Speaker 4 (28:56):
I mean, I know you're an NFL fan, but this
is different for collegiate football. How these playoffs, I mean,
it's pretty important.

Speaker 5 (29:02):
Yeah, I think I love to change. Both me and
my son both love it. It's just it. It gives
it a little bit more flavor. It brings in teams
that you know that otherwise. So let me preface this.
I'm a Florida State fan, and what happened with them?

Speaker 3 (29:20):
Uh what was it a couple of seasons two seasons ago.

Speaker 5 (29:23):
Yes, it was kind of it really really kind of
damaged a lot of our fan base. So I'm I'm
always going to before expanding that playoff.

Speaker 3 (29:33):
Very good, very good.

Speaker 4 (29:34):
I think that's a good I think that's a good
take on it. But to me, of course, you know,
Doug Matthews and I just you know, we we do
coach to coach every week and dig into this really
really deep.

Speaker 6 (29:43):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (29:44):
I think it's added a whole lot too. I know
one thing it's added a lot to It's added a
lot of money to these broadcasts.

Speaker 2 (29:50):
Oh gosh, I've.

Speaker 3 (29:51):
Done that well.

Speaker 1 (29:52):
And college football fans lived through you know, the BCS
and all those things they tried to do years ago,
and this is a little more like it. And I
wouldn't be surprised if they expanded it to sixteen teams
next year.

Speaker 3 (30:05):
Well.

Speaker 4 (30:05):
The thing that I like about it, and again that'd
get you two guys' thoughts on it is now instead
of a computer decided, they're decided on the field, and
they decide the championship on the field.

Speaker 3 (30:17):
I mean that to me, it makes a big difference.

Speaker 2 (30:20):
Yeah, I definitely agree with that.

Speaker 1 (30:22):
All right, let's talk about the week eleven slate of
games in the National Football League.

Speaker 2 (30:28):
It starts Thursday night. The New York Jets.

Speaker 1 (30:32):
Coming off of a win of their own, a second
win of the season, they are at Foxborough to take
on the New England Patriots.

Speaker 4 (30:40):
I mean, I'll tell you who. I'll tell you who
I like in this ballgame, Eddie, you tell me.

Speaker 2 (30:45):
First, it's New England.

Speaker 4 (30:47):
That's New England. I mean it's New England all the way.
I mean, they're playing really, really well and the Jets.
The Jets played better, but at New England. I mean
we've seen them. They're having a really big year.

Speaker 1 (30:58):
They are, and they will views some new Thursday Night
rival uniforms that they unveiled recently. And this is the
Northeaster and they're pretty slick. Nie, you lived through a
northeaster back in two thousand and nine. Yeah, that didn't
go too well for the Titan Yeah, exactly. Other games

(31:18):
of interest in this Tampa Bay is at Buffalo.

Speaker 2 (31:24):
On the noon slate on Sunday. Buffalo is having issues.

Speaker 3 (31:27):
Yeah, they really are. I mean, and the way that
Tampa's playing.

Speaker 4 (31:30):
I mean, you know, we'd spent a week down there
in Tampa, you know, this summer working out against them.
They've got a good football team. I like Tampa Bay
in this game, Eddie.

Speaker 5 (31:39):
Yeah, I would say Buffalo is you know, they're trying
to get a comeback, trying to you know, trying to
rally back. But I think Tampa Bay is gonna have
a little something for him. That Baker Mayfield, He's he's
the truth.

Speaker 2 (31:53):
They got some young rookie wide receivers that are.

Speaker 1 (31:55):
Showing up to and Mecca at Buka and Tess Johnson
out of Oregon really stepped forward last week. Los Angeles
Chargers at the Jacksonville Jaguars Go Chargers, Go Bolts bolts
Ball Bolts, an old AFC North battle the Bengals at

(32:15):
Akrashuer Stadium to take on the Steelers Sunday afternoon. I
would say that's probably a Pittsburgh Steelers thing.

Speaker 2 (32:21):
Yep, would you agree?

Speaker 3 (32:23):
I agree?

Speaker 1 (32:25):
How about this one in the afternoon slate at three
oh five Seattle at the Los Angeles Ram.

Speaker 3 (32:32):
That's a good that's a good ball game.

Speaker 2 (32:33):
All about that.

Speaker 3 (32:35):
I was in the NFC West for several years.

Speaker 4 (32:37):
But but Seattle right now, and I think you know,
I know that Eddie pays attention to the National Football League.
Seattle's got a good football team, you do, Yep? They're
they're playing really really good right now.

Speaker 2 (32:47):
Now.

Speaker 4 (32:49):
The Rams, the Rams, as long as that quarterback stays healthy,
have got a chance against anybody but Seattle.

Speaker 3 (32:55):
What's going on up there right now?

Speaker 4 (32:58):
When I when I got into the NFC West with
the Rams, the team to beat was Seattle. That's when
Russell Wilson and the Legion of Doom of Boom and
all of that stuff was going on at the time,
they were the team to beat.

Speaker 3 (33:12):
They've kind of come back around to that now.

Speaker 1 (33:15):
Yeah, and that's oddly enough. The Titans next opponent will
be talking about them next week.

Speaker 3 (33:19):
Yes, we will.

Speaker 1 (33:20):
How about these for some to wrap up the Sunday
part of it at three twenty five, Kansas City at
Denver AFC West.

Speaker 3 (33:29):
Big game, big, big, big game.

Speaker 2 (33:32):
You know, very interested to see that.

Speaker 3 (33:33):
Well, and then you know.

Speaker 4 (33:34):
It's just you know, like when the opener that we
had Eddie down, you know, we found out Denver's got
a really good defensive football team, really good defensive football team.

Speaker 3 (33:44):
So that's gonna be a big game.

Speaker 2 (33:45):
How about this one?

Speaker 1 (33:46):
For Sunday night, the Detroit Lions head to the Link
Lincoln Financial Field to take on the Philadelphia Eagles.

Speaker 3 (33:53):
I mean, who do you like in that game?

Speaker 2 (33:56):
Eddie?

Speaker 5 (33:56):
Oh, I'll probably have to go with Philly on it.

Speaker 4 (34:01):
You know what the good I'm glad you said that
because I have to pick something all the time for
NBC TV that I do, you know, every every Sunday
morning before the ball game, I picked.

Speaker 3 (34:11):
I picked the Eagles too.

Speaker 5 (34:13):
Yeah. I think they I think they're gonna be strong
enough to get over all.

Speaker 1 (34:17):
Right, So there's the week eleven slate and the Cowboys
head to Vegas play the Raiders on Monday night, So
we'll see what that happens in that one. What Coach
mac are your keys for the Tennessee Titans this weekend
against the Houston Texans.

Speaker 4 (34:32):
Well, we talked a little bit about it earlier in
the segment, you know, with Eddie. I think it's it's extremely, extremely,
extremely important that for the Titans offense that you stay
on track. You cannot be third and double digit the
second half of this season. You know, you've got to
stay ahead of the chains on first and second down,
especially against a defense like this. You've got to give
them a two way go on you. And you can't

(34:54):
be third and double digits. You just can't. Because that's
that's that's not a key for success National Football League.
The other thing that you that you that you have
to be able to do, and I agree with what
Adie said. If Davis Mills is the quarter put pressure
on this quarterback because he's got some weapons he can
throw to, and you've got to be able to You've
got to be able to cage rush this guy because

(35:15):
he did he hurt he hurt Jacksonville last week with
his legs. So I don't know which quarterback is going
to play, but you're gonna have to cage rush those
guys and the other the other aspect of it, and
we talked about it. This special teams unit of bones
Fossil has been has been playing really good football all season,
even on a football team that hasn't won enough games,

(35:36):
They've been performing very well. They need to keep that up.
The other thing that we need to do somehow in
this ballgame, the Titans need to come out on the
plus side of the turnover ratio. Be on the plus
side of the turnover ratio in this ballgame.

Speaker 1 (35:50):
Sunday, Eddie Brown, thanks for your service and thanks for
being our special guest.

Speaker 5 (35:54):
I appreciate it. Thank you all for the opportunity and
I love it.
