Speaker 1 (00:00):
Happy Tuesday night, everybody. Hope you're doing well.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Welcome to this edition of Mac Talk Mac Week eleven.
Speaker 3 (00:08):
Here we go, Week eleven, Here we go, looking forward
to it. I always look forward to Tuesday night on
Mac Talk to be able to talk to some of
our fans and then to preview the next week.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
So here we go, and coming up it is the
Seattle Seahawks at Nissan Stadium. We're on the air at
eleven with Farm Burea Health Plans, Titans countdown, and then
you and Taylor Zarza will have the call official kick
at twelve o two. We'll take your phone calls. Question
six one five seven three seven one four five and
what has become tradition?
Speaker 1 (00:38):
Here is Eric in Nashville.
Speaker 4 (00:40):
Hello, sir, Hey guys, it's always it's a pleasure to
talk to you. Erck hey, coach Mac. Listen, before I
get to the main Titans talk and stuff I was
going to talk about, guys, I did have a question.
I heard report. Now, did y'all bock us? It was?
I hear it quickly. Roger Goodell is supposed to be
in Nashville this week touring the stadium.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
You know what I have heard that I've got an
event to go to Friday night other than the Ring
the ceremony. I think rehtt you're gonna be at the
Ring ceremony. It's the stadium, correct.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
Yeah, And I don't know what the alternate plans are
weather wise, because it looks like the weather will not
permit to have it outside in this But yeah, it
was mentioned to me, I guess Sunday during the broadcast,
and I did not realize that was going to be
a thing, but it would make sense with a milestone
like this, and I'm sure he'll come back after it's open.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
But yeah, that's what we understand. Eric.
Speaker 4 (01:33):
Yeah, yeah, so I'm guessing. I don't know for sure,
and you wonder. I feel also be at the game Sunday,
so we'll see about that. But guys, as far as
the Titans and stuff, first of all, guys, before I know,
they get criticized for a lot of stuff, but I
will say this, what they did Sunday with the salute
to the vetter was outstanding. It was priceless, especially at
halftime where the marine had been off of like six
(01:53):
months came back. It was with his son, his daughter
and hugging his daughter shooting and wanted to let him
go and pears healize. That was priceless, as well as
the shoutouts they did to all the service men and everything. Guys,
I want to say this, guys, Jeffer Simmons. I tell
you what, I wish we had fifty three Jeffer Simmons
on the team because I mentioned that to Will and
ramon yesterday morning. Guys, and I'll tell you what one
(02:14):
of the frustrated things is the defense is plan except
as well as they did, because usually they would wear
down after just the office not being able to do anything.
We got to touchdown. Of course, we lost with the
last second field goal. But guys, one of the things
course frustrated, I'm sure you'll get into this, was the
issues with the offense and the false starts or whatever
it was, especially the three on JC Latham. And of
(02:35):
course I'd heard reports that that was going on in practice,
and you would think was a situation like that that
that wouldn't be an issue at home. I can understand
it on the road with the crowd noise and everything,
but guys, what is that and how can we correct that?
Is that's something like coaching snap counts just concentration or
just what is the deal where that's going on in
practicing and games, and I just want to get your
(02:55):
thoughts on that, guys. Is always good talk to you.
Look forward to being at the game. Sun did tighten up,
take care of We're talking again soon, all right.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
Eric, appreciate the call. Thank you.
Speaker 5 (03:03):
Eric.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
Yeah, look, look I'm glad, glad you brought up. First
of all, the slut to Service Day was outstanding. It
was absolutely outstanding ret night, you know, I thought so
while we were in the booth, and then it was
it was very it was very, very emotional, you know.
I thought the whole halftime was really good.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Yeah, they had they had country music. Great. Well, I'm
drawing a blank who said yes, thank you. Sorry. I
had a brain freeze there and he was singing in
fronts of veterans and so there was.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
That whole thing going on at midfield.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
And then when he's done with the song, he has
this man's family and I believe it was an army
vet Chris Sizemore, if I'm not mistaken, and uh, surprise
he's there. And I don't know how long it had
been Sisafe seen him, but those kinds of things always
are amazing to me how they get pulled off like that,
and just the reaction from you know, the wife for sure,
(04:07):
but the kids are just I mean, you saw the
bear hugged Dad hadn't seen him in forever.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
Well, the thing that I love too though. First of all,
he introduced he introduced three different servicemen from different eras
you know, and then especially the World War II vet
you know that was from the Navy. I mean, all
of that stuff is very very important. Of course, I'm
very very dialed in with with the military, and especially
(04:32):
since you know my background with Pat Tillman. But it's
just it's something that none of us should ever, ever,
ever not take time to acknowledge what those men and
women have done for us. I thought that the Titans
did a tremendous job at the at the halftime with that,
I thought that was great.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
Absolutely Ready.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
Well, now talking about talking about the false star. First
of all, that was that was exaggerated in practice. They
had two false starts in practice. One of them was
the receiver and one of them was on the show
team on the offense. So that was that that that
that didn't happen that many times. Now in the ballgame,
(05:12):
it happened three times too many times, and it really
look all of that. What that is is mental concentration.
Those are unforced errors. Unforced errors. So I mean, the
only thing that you can do you can do about
that is that that's on the individual player. Those guys
are all in the huddle, they know what the snap
(05:32):
count is. They practice all week. You know, someone had
mentioned that maybe they had changed their cadence, which you
need to do against a past rushing team like Houston.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
Is you do.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
Because believe me, they've they've watched they've watched all of
the all of the boom mic film that they've seen,
and they can get your cadence. They understand your cadence. So,
especially with teams that get off on the snap as
well as they do, you have to change your cadence.
But you know what the stap county is. You've practiced
all week with that cadence. So there's really no excuse
(06:03):
for that. There is, There is none, and I don't
think anybody was trying to make any excuses for it.
So that's that's that's that's where I come from on
that all.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Right back to the phones, we've got them loaded up
here David and Lebanon.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
You're up next with coach Steve McGinnis.
Speaker 5 (06:19):
Man of knowledge. How are you today, Hey, David.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Thank you for calling in this evening. I hope you're
doing good.
Speaker 5 (06:24):
Oh brother, I'm doing good. Waiting on the holidays to
get here. I'm ready to eat some turkey.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Well, yeah, it's it's you know what, You're waiting for
the right thing, because it's coming.
Speaker 5 (06:33):
Yes, sir, I heard that they put really on the
ir today. I haven't heard what have they picked up
anyone off the practice squad or anything.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
Let me give you what they did today. So they
did place him on injury preserve. They signed to the
practice squad with an exception, Lance McCutcheon, who had been
there a few days ago and they dropped him off.
He's a six to three wide receiver from Montana State.
In year two, also signed wide receiver Christian Wilkers into
the practice squad. He's a third year guy out of
Cimo Southeast Missouri State. And then they signed from the
(07:09):
practice squad to the active roster James Proche, the wide
receiver in six year from SMU who's been with them
since training camp.
Speaker 5 (07:17):
Excellent. Okay, that sounds good. I really want to get
to a game here soon. I'd like to get to
a game before they shut the old stadium down and
starts a new one up. I plan on it. My
wife has been all over the last few years.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
Well, we hate to hear that. I'm sorry to hear that.
I hope, hope she's getting better.
Speaker 5 (07:36):
Oh, yes, Well, I do appreciate, you know, being able
to talk to you guys every Tuesday night. It means
a lot. And yeah, all those people out here listen.
I just want to let y'all know what y'all mean
to us.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
Well, you're very kind, that's very kind of you. And again,
really wish the best for your wife. And I want
you to I want you to be able to get
to a game. And to me, that's it's important to you,
so that's important to us.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
That's exactly right. We go back to the phones to
another David, this one in Nashville. Hello, you're on MAC
Talk with coach Mack.
Speaker 6 (08:16):
Hey, how's it going going good?
Speaker 3 (08:18):
David? Good, thanks for calling in this evening.
Speaker 6 (08:20):
Coach Mac. I had just had a question, curious question
about you know, about the tighten the offense and uh,
I just want to know why come other you know,
just regular quarterbacks can throw paying twenty yard passes down
the field, but all we can get out of our
team is a couple of runs, a couple of pitches
(08:42):
and a pass to the tight end for four or
five yards and then we off the field every time.
I mean, it's like we can't get nothing going. But
I mean, I'm not knocking them. So they played their
best out their Sunday, because it's all you can ask
for is your best, and they did play their best,
so it's all you can ask for. But I think,
you know, making a little improvement, but we just want
(09:03):
to see them just get a little bit better, all.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
Right, David, thanks for the call, Thank you very much.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
You know, and you're talking about consistency and consistently moving
the ball with the chains, and that's something I think
that well everybody involved with the Titans, and both watching
and both involved intricately with the Titans want to see.
They need to be able to know, you're correct, they
need to be able to string together more series. I mean,
(09:28):
and they've had too many three and outs, and they've
had too many third and as we call them double digits,
you know, so they need more success on first and
second down. And to me, regardless of how you progress
the chains, what you're talking about is something that's very real.
You need to be able to progress the chains and
possess the football. I agree with you one hundred percent
(09:49):
on that.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
All right, let's keep moving on the phones here, Bill
and Bellevue, welcome up.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
You're next with coach Mac on MAC Talk.
Speaker 7 (10:00):
Hey, guys, honors, speak with you guys.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
Hey, Bill, thank you for calling in this evening. Mac.
Speaker 7 (10:06):
I think I got your hardest assignment of the year.
And that is a brief snopsis y'all talking about veterans. Uh,
we'll b anopsis. I don't know if that's possible about
Pat Killman, Man, I'll hang up and I'll listen. That's
why I will listen to.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
You, all right, Bill, Thank you.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
I appreciate it. Uh, you know, of course. Look, I
will always uh be honored to talk about Pat and
to keep Pat's memory alive. Right, And I do a
lot of speaking engagements that companies ask us to do,
you know, and we we inevitably end up, you know,
doing a pretty long segment on Pat Tilmot and there's
not anything briefly I can say, but what I can
(10:48):
say with all, with all honesty.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
You know, in my forty years of the National Football League,
clearly I've been involved with hundreds and hundreds of football players,
very very close hall of famers, guys from everywhere in
the country. You know, I've had a lot of great,
great experiences with players. But the one player that has
had the biggest impact on my life, and I'm talking
(11:14):
about not just my football life, but my personal life
and my real just views on things that are important
was Pat Tillman. Pat Tillman was a very very unique individual.
He was a very loyal individual. I can tell you
that the stories that you hear about him turning down
a lot of money to stay with me at the
(11:35):
Cardinals at the time, it's absolutely true. I mean it's
And when he came back from one of the free
agent visits, and I think we were paying him five
hundred thousand dollars on his fourth year of his first contract,
and he was offered over nine million dollars, and I
(11:55):
just I went downstairs to tell him to tell him goodbye,
that he'd earned it. And I was proud of him,
because you know, we took a chance on him in
the seventh round, late seventh round, two twenty pick and
he stood. He stood right there when I turned the
machine off from he was on a treadmill, and I
turned it off and said, look, I just want to
(12:16):
tell you. I'm proud of you. You've earned this, he said, Coach,
it was cool visiting, but I'll tell you this. You
guys were the only people that believed in me when
I came out, and for me to leave just for money,
that's not right. I'm staying here with you.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
That's Pat Tillman, and that as much how his service
began to the country, turning down money once again to
go serve after nine to eleven. He's one of the
penultimate examples of why we get to do what we
get to do.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
Very very very very very unique individual, very unique human being.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
One more call before we hit the brake. Here and
you're on with Dave McGinnis.
Speaker 5 (13:04):
Hey, thanks for taking my call.
Speaker 8 (13:05):
How are you, coach?
Speaker 3 (13:06):
Good Dustin? Thanks for calling in appreciate it man, Yes, sir.
Speaker 9 (13:11):
So if you look down to your left sometimes I
think you're looking at me sometimes and I'll wave I
see I'm the guy in the swipe shoulder pad that's
down there by the tunnel.
Speaker 8 (13:23):
So I try to get your attention every once in
a while. Give us a wave down there.
Speaker 9 (13:26):
Every once in a while. We're looking at you and
we appreciate everything you do and all your insights.
Speaker 8 (13:32):
I do got a question about Cedric Gray. Is there
schematically anything that you notice that he's doing that we
could maybe change to like the wheel linebacker or slim
him over and maybe even YouTube rush pass rushing fuel
(13:53):
from the.
Speaker 3 (13:54):
Outside Dustin, thanks for the call. Appreciate Yeah, Keith waving
with the spot on and right now, look out out
the window and we'll we'll, we'll, we'll look for you.
Speaker 1 (14:04):
Remember to do that on Sunday for sure.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
Look Cedric Gray, it has has impressed me. Of course,
I cut my teeth for a lot of years on
linebackers in this league, and so in vetting linebackers watching
him come out of North Carolina, he was a guy
that I really liked. And for this reason, he's got
great K and D, which is ken diagnosed when you
put it on your on your scouting sheet. But he's
also a trigger guy. I mean he triggers, and what
(14:27):
trigger means is once he sees it, he goes there's
not a whole lot of as I say, I'm giving
you some some scouting talk now, there's not a lot
of heasy in his movement back there. And then he
is physical and he's got a great GPS to the ball.
Last Sunday, Steven Tullick was on the television show for Channel.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
Four with me the Legend of the Game too.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
Yep, yeah, he was legend of the game and Tully
Tully was the same way. You know, when he drafted Tully,
you know, had to fight to get Tully drafted in
the fourth round because there was you know, everybody thought
he was too short and too slow. But when you
put him on there at North Carolina State, he made
every tackle on the field. And so when he came
in here and he learned how and again he admitted it.
(15:09):
I mean, I absolutely love Steven Tullick because he came
in here and he was a sea ball getball linebacker
and it was a rat ball player. I mean, he'd
just take off run and as soon as the ball
was snapped to try to get to it. When he
got to play with some structure in the National Football League,
but he took he took to coaching, and you know,
and and he would listen to what I would say.
And plus he also had the advantage of being of
(15:32):
being the middle linebacker between Keith Bullock and David Thornton,
two tremendous, tremendous professionals. And so I mean, i'd always
kid tell her, you know that he that he came
in driving a Toyota and left driving a Mercedes, because
the guy is had a tremendous, tremendous career.
Speaker 1 (15:49):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
And and look this Cedric Gray. Cedric Gray has already
topped the tackles for the number of games played that
Steven Tullick was the leader in the clubhouse all of
these years. So I love Cedric Gray. They're using him
just right. He can cover. Uh, he's really really good
behind the foot, He's really good behind the football. When
(16:11):
he blitzes, he blitzes with some power. He brings some
smoke when he blitzes. This is a really good linebacker.
And and I'm really proud of him because you know,
he was hurt his rookie year when he came in here,
missed a whole lot of developmental time. But I give
him a lot of credit for everything that he's done
to get his game to this point. He and Frank Bush,
(16:32):
you know who's a linebacker coach. They've worked really hard
on his game. And so you've picked a great You've
picked a great, great guy to watch in highlight because
he's he's one of he's one of my favorites. He's
one of rets favorites because he's a ballplayer and he
loves ball. Yeah, he loves to play it all right.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
When we continue, and it's players plural, there's a pair
of them, Jeffrey Simmons and arden Key. They both returned
from missing some time with injuries, and they did make
a difference three of the teams four quarterback sacks and
by the way, Big Jeff top five and quarterback pressures
at his position with twenty six. Need those two to
(17:13):
continue to turn it up Sunday against Seattle.
Speaker 3 (17:15):
Yeah, jeffs really been on a heater this year. I mean,
you know, he had to sit out, you know, because
of the injury, but he came back in I mean,
you know, we watched practice every day. I mean, he
was working extremely hard to get back. He and arden
Key both put a lot of work in to get back.
And you could. You could feel their presence on that
game Sunday, and it was extremely important to get them back,
(17:37):
and it's going to be extremely important to be able
to keep them back, you know, for the rest of
the time. When you've got guys like that that worked
that hard, even when the season's not going well team wise,
to get back so that they can help the team,
then you know you got the right kind of dudes.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
All right.
Speaker 2 (17:52):
So the Seattle Seahawks rolling here to town on Sunday,
they come off of.
Speaker 1 (17:59):
A win, a loss. They'd like to have back and
make it into a win.
Speaker 2 (18:04):
And this will tell you the complimentary football part of it.
And another opponent, a tough opponent the Titans will face
because despite four interceptions from quarterback Sam Darnold, they were
in that thing till the end.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
No, they're complete football team. I mean they have been.
They have been all year. And it wasn't exactly like
they were playing somebody that wasn't any good.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
I mean, they were playing the Rams.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
The Rams are really good game, really good football team.
And you're right, I mean Sam Donald got pressured into
four interceptions, but it wasn't it wasn't a boat race game.
It wasn't they weren't. I mean they were playing for
the last series to be able to win the football game.
So their complete football team. Defensively, they're very very sounds.
(18:48):
They're head coach was an extremely good defensive coordinator at
the Ravens before he got his head job there in Seattle.
You can tell they play really play, a good play,
a good solid uniform defense. I mean, it's impressive to
watch the three four defense. It's got multiple ways that
they can go after you. But offensively, they're the number
(19:10):
six offense in the league, and they're that for Sam
Darnold is having a resurgence. He's having a really really
nice year. But he's got some weapons too. That and
you've got all the alphabet numbers, so you can let's roll.
Let's roll on them.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
On offense, you mentioned it, number six offense, but number
three scoring offense in the league at twenty nine point
four points per game. The only thing that's interesting is
the minus seven in turnover ratio.
Speaker 1 (19:36):
But you know four of those came the other day.
Speaker 3 (19:39):
Yeah, that's that was from the four interceptions. Yes, you're right.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
How about this number three and yards per play period,
So think about this now, six point one seven yards
per play. You're in short yardage, make it to another
set of downs every time you touch the football.
Speaker 3 (19:57):
When you're doing that, Yeah, well, I mean it's it's
basically two downs and you're moving the chains, is what
they're doing.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
And Sam Darnold number one in passing yards per play
just over nine yards.
Speaker 1 (20:07):
Per play in the National Football League.
Speaker 3 (20:09):
It's the first down every time he throws it.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
And then you talked about the complete team complimentary first down.
Speaker 1 (20:16):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
Punt returned average is sixth in the league, just over
fourteen yards, and kickoff return top ten twenty seven yards
per kickoff return.
Speaker 1 (20:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (20:26):
Well, it's a three phase football team, that is. I mean, look,
they're going to be in the playoffs. They're in the playoffs,
and that NFC West is very very tight this year.
I mean it's very tight. But those guys, you know,
wouldn't just you know, of course, you know what what
we do. As soon as we're through with our game
on Sunday, then we start grinding in on who the
next opponent is because we want to get down to
(20:48):
the detail so that we can give our listeners and
we can put together a good broadcast. You know, on Sunday,
and the first thing that jumps out at you when
you start grinding the tape on it, you know, like
I do, is how complete their football team is in
all three phases. And then you know when I check
with you the next day as far as to what
(21:08):
you gathered from the numbers, it matches up.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
So Sam Darnold twenty five hundred plus yards passing, seventy
percent completion percentage, seventeen touchdowns, ten picks, one hundred and
five passer rating through this point in the season, only
been sacked ten times.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
Yeah, well, he gets rid of the ball exactly. They've
got a good offensive line. I mean, it's well, it
all goes, it all goes hand in hand.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
Let's talk about some of the weapons in this run game.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
Excellent Kenneth Walker the third six hundred six yards on
the ground, four and a half per average, four touchdowns.
Zach Charbonnay three point fifty on the ground little less
per average, but six touchdowns on the ground. So ten
between the two of them in nearly one thousand yards rushing.
Speaker 3 (21:50):
Yeah, well, I mean they can. They can. And you
talk about the way that they progress the change, it's
because they can run the football.
Speaker 2 (21:58):
And the other part of it is the number one
weapon they have is the leading receiver in the National
Football League right now, and that's Jackson Smith and Jigba
eleven hundred and forty six yards through the air, five touchdowns,
fifteen point nine per catch, you know, Venning him, that's
seventy two catches by the way, Mack, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (22:17):
No, venning him coming out. I mean, you knew that
he was going to make an impact, you know, wherever
he went, and he's been been he's been outstanding. He
really has been in him. That's their bell cow when
they start throwing through the air.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
And he's joined by the tight end aj Barner who
has four touchdowns of his own, Cooper Cup who they
got earlier this year, the rookie Elijah Arroyo, the tight
end that played with cam Ward at the University of Miami.
So they have that stuff there. Now, let's discuss the
defense because this is pertinent to the murderers row that
(22:51):
the Titans offense has had to face so far this year.
Seattle top ten in yards allowed, top five and yards
per play number six and rushing yards per game number
five and rushing yards per play number four and passing
yards per play number eight, and sacks per passes, passing attempts,
(23:17):
kick off or turn average twenty three point three allowed.
Speaker 1 (23:19):
That's top that's top ten. That's six.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
Third down percentage top ten thirty five point four six percent.
And then number six and points allowed per game at
nineteen point three, number two and point differential at just
over ten points difference and number six and yardage difference
per game which is just under sixty five yards.
Speaker 3 (23:43):
Yeah, And I mean you and I did some research
for the last two days, and we really didn't have
to do much research, but just you know what our
eyes had told us during the season. And then you
look at you look at where the defenses that the
Titans have played against before the Titans played them, before
they played them now, I mean, they're all top ten
ranked defenses. Nearly nearly all of them are in the
(24:03):
top ten.
Speaker 1 (24:04):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
And it is a squad of guys that attacked the
quarterback in this and where the quarterback sacks come from.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
It's not exactly like what you.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
Saw last week, but u Chenna Nuwosu leads the team
in five and a half quarterback sacks. And then Ernest
Jones that was former Titan seventy one tackles. He's a
leading tackler for them. So that's just kind of a
look at some of those numbers and.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
The thing that you did say there though there thinks
important to go. It's different. It's different as far as
pressure wise when you really start grinding the tape because
you know where the pressure is coming from. Last week
with those two edged those two edged dudes, that's who
you really had to take care of, which they did
a decent job of taking care of those guys. But
this defense, this pressure is a group pressure type of
(24:53):
a team. That's a little different.
Speaker 2 (24:54):
And comparable numbers because that Houston Texans defense going into
last week was near the to there at I think
I said thirty six percent quarterback pressure rate.
Speaker 1 (25:04):
They're at thirty four and change the Seahawks are.
Speaker 3 (25:07):
That's about the same type of production.
Speaker 1 (25:09):
You're right, yeah, so you got that.
Speaker 2 (25:11):
Here's something I found interesting too on Cody Barton from
the NFL Pro NFL Plus stats, which are excellent in
this Cody Barton has a forty six point five passer
rating when targeted and coverage this season, the lowest of
any linebacker with thirty plus targets by just over.
Speaker 1 (25:31):
Fifteen point nine.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
His fifty nine and a half percent completion percentage allowed
his second lowest among that group, and his three interceptions
are tied for second most at the position.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
Yeah, well for the linebackers, especially with those completion percentage
and because most of those are our percentage short passes,
you know, those are the harder ones to defend. Cody
Barton is an excellent, excellent linebacker first of all. But
he's got a great, great feel, you know, for being able.
First of all, I know he's got to be a
great film study because some of the things, just like
(26:04):
the touchdown that he made when he jumped that when
he jumped that quick out earlier in the season. I mean,
he studies tape, he understands trigger points. But the thing
about him is is he's very alert. He's aware, he
understands splits, he understands what routes are coming off of
those splits. He's an excellent, excellent space player for a linebacker.
Speaker 2 (26:26):
Here's something else I found interesting on Jackson Smith and Jigba.
He has eight hundred and twenty nine receiving yards on
throws of ten or more air yards this season. That's
nearly two hundred and fifty more than any other player.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
He's a threat. I mean, it doesn't I mean, you
don't have to be a real genius to study tape
when he put them on to watch and see where
they go to and who they count on repeatedly.
Speaker 2 (26:50):
Well, these are Ohio State wide receivers. I mean, they've
always had some pretty dog gone good ones. But man,
there's some of the last five years or so. I mean,
they're littered all over the league.
Speaker 3 (27:00):
Well, they that goes with the way that they recruit
at Ohio State.
Speaker 1 (27:04):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
All right, when we continue the final segment of MAC Talk.
Speaker 3 (27:10):
You know that time that they took us around the
new facility over there, I was very impressed.
Speaker 1 (27:15):
Well, first of all, they have a hell of a
service department.
Speaker 3 (27:17):
Oh, I mean I was that was that was very impressed.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
They really do.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
And it's a it's a nice just dealership facility to
begin with, but they and I told the sales and
service and commercial and fleet stuff, it's impressive. And meeting
all the guys, all the guys and gals that work there,
you can tell they enjoy being a part of what
(27:41):
they're doing there every day.
Speaker 3 (27:43):
Well, I tell you that the drivers that bring my
car to me when I get it serviced, right, they are,
They're happy to do it. Yeah, it's a great work
environment for them. What a great place.
Speaker 2 (27:56):
Okay, it is week eleven? Ar, I'm sorry, what is it?
We week eleven or week week twelve? Week twelve?
Speaker 1 (28:02):
I'll get it right in a minute. Week eleven. We've
already had Week twelve in the NFL, and.
Speaker 2 (28:07):
It starts Thursday night as the Buffalo Bills travel to
NRG Stadium to take on the Houston Texans and Demico Ryans,
head coach of the Texans, has already ruled out quarterback CJ.
Speaker 1 (28:20):
Stroud. Davis Mills will get the start.
Speaker 3 (28:23):
Now, Davis Mills is, as I say, what do we say?
He's not what an empty chair? And as long as
as long as they've got the receivers they have and
they have those two monsters on the edge rushing, they're fine.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
Oh yeah, I'm interested to see how they'll match up
against Buffalo, because Buffalo got back in the win column,
but they've they've hit a rough patch here through the
middle of the season.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
We'll see how that goes.
Speaker 2 (28:47):
All right, I believe all the European games are done
after the one in Madrid, Spain last week, so looks
like it starts back to the old twelve noon slate
and New York are at Baltimore to take on the Ravens.
The Steelers at Soldier Field to take on the Chicago Bears,
(29:08):
and the Bears are winning ball games.
Speaker 3 (29:10):
The Bears are on a heater right now, are they
really are? I mean, once the quarterback last year, for
what he did last year to what he's doing this
year is a big difference. But he's got time on task.
I keep saying this with these young rookie quarterbacks and
their roster was a pretty decent roster last year, and
now it's better. Now, it's better now.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
Well, to your point, we did a little experiment before
we went on the air and looking at his first
ten games of his rookie season, and much like cam Ward,
he was sacked forty one times through ten games. He's
been sacked sixteen in twenty twenty five.
Speaker 3 (29:45):
Yeah, I mean, is the time on task for anybody
in the National Football League, and I'm counting coaches too,
is extremely, extremely important because you can't manufacture experience in
this league. You just can't. It's a different experience than
anything else if you're in this business, but for a quarterback,
it's vital.
Speaker 1 (30:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (30:04):
The nine to two New England Patriots travel to Cincinnati
to take on the Bengals Sunday at noon. The Patriots
are playing now we the Giants go to Ford Field
to take on the Lions.
Speaker 1 (30:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (30:17):
And the Lions they're not going to be They're not
going to be an easy place to play right now,
especially after that game that they lost last week.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
Yeah, that was in Philly too, right, Yes, well in
the financial field, yep. How about Minnesota and Green Bay
in the Battle of the Black and Blue Division.
Speaker 3 (30:34):
Well, I mean they've both been struggling a little bit.
Both of them have been struggling a little bit, and
so it's those games are always those games are always close.
I was in that division for a lot of years
when I was with the Bears, and those games are
always tight.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
I would like to and I'll go back and watch
just the condensed part of it. I guess on NFL
Plus when it's done. But because it's the same time
as our game. But Indianapolis is an arrowhead to take
on the Chiefs.
Speaker 3 (30:58):
I like indian that game.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
I do too. I mean, indeed, Indy we've seen that
show twice.
Speaker 3 (31:03):
We've seen it twice, but we've also watched Indy do
the same thing to a lot of people that they
did to the Titans. I mean, they're they're a complete
football team. They're really good.
Speaker 2 (31:13):
Jacksonville in the division. They are at Arizona to take
on the Cardinals.
Speaker 3 (31:19):
I think they'll probably I mean, of course, you don't know,
but Jacksonville last week they completely boat raced, you know,
the Chargers.
Speaker 2 (31:26):
So I mean when Arizona has had other injury issues,
yes that you remember the guy that dropped the ball
at the one and Mari de Mercado he's on he's
got a high ankle, I think. So, I mean, they're
they don't have a lot at the running back position,
and you know, they made the decision to go to
Jacoby Brissett for the rest of the year, just you know,
(31:47):
things of that nature.
Speaker 3 (31:48):
So Jacoby Brissett has given them a little bit of
a lift those.
Speaker 1 (31:50):
Yeah no, no, he listened again, not an empty chair, right, nope.
Speaker 7 (31:56):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
Cleveland is at Vegas to take on the Raiders.
Speaker 2 (31:59):
How about a battle the NFC East as the defending
world champion Eagles head to Jerry World to take on
the Dallas Cowboys at three twenty five.
Speaker 3 (32:06):
That would be interesting. Both those teams are playing pretty
good football.
Speaker 1 (32:09):
They are. Dallas played very well last night.
Speaker 3 (32:12):
Yeah, and Dallas's quarterback is playing really well too.
Speaker 2 (32:15):
He is dealing and it doesn't hurt that he's got
the likes of Ceedee Lamb and company to deal to.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
And how about Javonte Williams. Boy, once he got the
knee better from it.
Speaker 2 (32:27):
I mean it was a devastating knee injury he had
in Denver, he is back to old form.
Speaker 3 (32:34):
Yeah, well, I mean, you know again, what do we say?
He read that the chances of getting hurt in this
league are one hundred indeed, so you're never the same
until you get well.
Speaker 2 (32:44):
NFC South Division Battle Atlanta travels to New Orleans to
take on the Saints. How about this one. This is
a good Sunday night battle. Tampa Bay is at so
far to take on the Los Angeles Rams.
Speaker 3 (32:57):
Yeah, well, look the Rams right now. If I said,
when you travel out there to play the Rams right now,
you better be ready to play some football.
Speaker 1 (33:05):
Yes you should. It looks like Brock Purdy is back.
Speaker 3 (33:13):
And you can tell the difference too when you watch
them play.
Speaker 2 (33:16):
And that is the Monday night game as they host
the Carolina Panthers, who have been heating.
Speaker 3 (33:22):
Up Carolina Panthers. Ryce Young is playing well. He's playing
well again, time on task with the quarterback. Remember coach
Max said.
Speaker 2 (33:29):
That, yes, we remember and we will Bye weeks this
week Denver, La Chargers, Miami and Washington's pretty good slate
of games there. We are just about thirty minutes away
from the latest college football bracket.
Speaker 1 (33:49):
You'll see a little change in that.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
Not a ton your twelfth seed keeps rolling out every week.
Speaker 3 (33:56):
Yeah, well and again as they come down to it,
I mean, when you start playing tournament football. I mean
that's it's just like getting into the playoffs in the
National Football League gets one and done. Well, it's been
one and done for these teams that are still because
look that that's that's the goal if you if you're
if you're a big time program in college football now,
your goal is to get to the playoffs. That's the goal.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
You know.
Speaker 3 (34:18):
When I was coaching in college, the goal was to
get to a bowl game or or to be able
to win the conference now the goal is to get
to the tournament ticket and so yeah, so it's coming
down now to these last two weeks. It's gonna be
pretty interesting when you.
Speaker 2 (34:32):
Think about how close, how close it was for A
and M last Saturday.
Speaker 3 (34:37):
I don't know how they won the game.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
I mean, it's wild. I watched the whole thing.
Speaker 3 (34:41):
It was wild, and really and firmly I believe and
I know A and M's got a good team, and
I've you know, I've said all along that they're they're
someone that you can't go to sleep on. But I
really believe if that game would have been played in
South Carolina, they wouldn't have won that game. But they
were playing it. They're playing it up there and you know,
at College Station, and so that that should have been
(35:04):
a great wake up call for them.
Speaker 1 (35:06):
Well and Alabama had a little close call there too.
Speaker 3 (35:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (35:11):
Look, this is it, man, this is the this is
the heart of all of it, and it's coming down
to you know, who's trying to get in the conference
championship game. And like you said, punch your ticket. Hey,
we're the winners at all this because we get to
watch all this stuff unfold.
Speaker 3 (35:26):
You get to watch, right, I mean, it's just consumers
of it. When you're watching it, it's pretty it's it's
very very intriguing.
Speaker 2 (35:32):
Right now based on what I saw last week. You know,
the team that's getting right at the right time as Georgia.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
Yeah, well there there was never anything wrong with Georgia,
but but you know, they had a little peaking valley
and a little bumping a road and that and the other.
I think people get you know, we're the same way.
I was the same way when I'm watching it. Because
we do that coach to coach show and we dig
in on all these teams. You expect them to be
as dominant as they've been defensively in the last couple
of years. It's hard to be that all the time.
(36:00):
But they're good. They're Kirby Smart. Kirby Smart may be
one of the better coaches in the country right now.
Speaker 2 (36:06):
Agree agree, all right, Keys to the game on Sunday.
What are they sir?
Speaker 3 (36:13):
Well? The first thing you've got to do is you've
got to you've got to be able to control the
football against these people. You know, that's that's easier said
than done because we talk about their multiple three four defense.
So you've got to protect the football. The other thing
that you that you cannot do is you cannot It's
a little different than last week where we said we
couldn't get behind the chains with these people. You can't
(36:36):
get behind the chains on first down against these people
because they start to bring some heat, you know, from
second down on, you can't. You can't do that. The
other thing is you can't turn the ball over. You
just cannot turn the ball over against these people because
you say there they're minus seven and turnover ratio. But
when they do get turnovers, they normally score off of
(36:56):
it because they got a prolific offense.
Speaker 1 (36:59):
Prolific.
Speaker 2 (37:00):
All right, we'll have all the coverage here on Sunday.
Thanks for all the great calls tonight for Ross Johnson
producing back behind the glass.
