Speaker 1 (00:00):
What does it mean to slide into someone's DMS?

Speaker 2 (00:03):
That sounds like a lot of fluck. Okay, we're not
ready for that. From News Talk eleven ten and ninety
nine three WPT.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
And then what does that have to do with anything?

Speaker 2 (00:11):
It has everything to do with anything. This is Good
Morning BET with Klohubson and Beth Trout.

Speaker 3 (00:17):
That's all. With a second, we ride up de Troy.

Speaker 4 (00:20):
Bucket, News Talk eleven ten, nine to nine three WBT
on Wednesday, July thirtieth. Don't forget We've got a special
show announcement coming up at eight twenty. As people hand
me things to eat here, hold that thought for a second.
We have a big announcement about Monday's show and who's

(00:40):
going to join us for the last hour and a
half of the show. It's been confirmed, but right now
joining us and we're happy to bring back WBT News
director Mark Yerris.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
Yes, sir, National hot Dog Month. We've been covering it
in depth from the last few weeks. Now we're going
to take you to a place where people are willing
to drive a long wave some crazy good hot dogs,
but they also gobble up pizza rolls and something really sweet.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
We drove from Kannapolis wanted cinnamon rolls. Yes, the cinnamon rolls,
you get them, hated. We've got folks who come from Raleigh,
from Tennessee.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
You might call it a culinary tourist attraction. It's a
special treat to come up here. People come to the
tiny town of Faith, North Carolina, population barely a thousand.
There's a few stone buildings on main Street, and then
this place, thank you, not going to help you, known
as Yosty's. I love it, and the owner, Shelley Yost,
will tell you exactly why the crowds come to her

(01:37):
little shop because we're unique.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Come on out what you need today.

Speaker 5 (01:41):
The things that we make you can't really get anywhere else.
Most of them are at least not as good as we.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
Make them, like her handmade cinnamon rolls. Everybody, cinnamon rolls
do you bake every day?

Speaker 3 (01:51):
Sometimes thirty or forty dozen?

Speaker 1 (01:54):
Wow?

Speaker 2 (01:55):
Well, besides the yummy cinnamon.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
Rolls, two, we're gonna get twelve hot dogs.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Hot dogs lie out the door here and the reason
is Yoasty's chili, which customers have trouble describing. It's magical
that you're not talking about. Oh no, Shelley's daughter.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
Emerald, I'm not saying a word.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
Not divulging the recipe to the secret sauce, though many
asked for it.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Oh, they want to buy it from us, and we say, well,
we'll just sell you the chili.

Speaker 5 (02:21):
It's one hundred percent ground beef with tomato products and spices.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
It's kind of unique for this area.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
And it's also unique just how Shelley Yost got this
chili recipe.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Almost heaven, West Virginia.

Speaker 5 (02:38):
I lived in West Virginia, Dowton, the middle of nowhere.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
As a kid. Shelley's mom taught her how to bake.

Speaker 5 (02:44):
I made my own bread and started making other things
out of the dough in. One of them was cinnamon buns,
and they became really popular with everyone I knew West Virginia.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
And when Shelley got married, her West Virginia man came
with some something most brides don't get, an unusual chili
recipe that her father in law had been given years
before as payment for a job.

Speaker 5 (03:08):
His dad did some electrical work for them and they
paid him with the recipe for the chili.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
Really yep, West Virginia. Soon Shelley Yost had a daughter,
to care for. Fiercely independent, she did not want a
West Virginia factory job.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
You don't have anybody bossing me around.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
She decided to take a chance with her cinnamon rolls
and that chili recipe.

Speaker 5 (03:30):
So there was a little rundown diner, and I found
out who owned it, and I went to his office
every day with her and his stroller until I convinced
him to lease it to us.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
A new mom with a new business, Shelley Yost called
it Yosti's a play on the family name. She worked
long hours.

Speaker 5 (03:51):
We would get up at two three in the morning,
go down there and put her in a playpen.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
She would go back to sleep, and I would bake.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Business was good, and soon customer wanted her to add
one more.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
Item, so I started making pepperoni rolls.

Speaker 5 (04:04):
The st roll with sticks of pepperoni baked inside there
West Virginia Staple.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
Oh, I'm a huge fan of the pepperoni roles.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
In the early two thousands, Shelley and Emerald moved to
North Carolina to the town of Faith in Rowanne County
to be near some family, and again she quickly found
a building to rent.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
What do you need today?

Speaker 2 (04:22):
Dogs? All the way though. Her unusual hot dogs with
no coal slaw or ketchup had locals scratching their heads
at first.

Speaker 5 (04:30):
And then they take a bite and it immediately changes
hot dogs.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
It's just great.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
They're so excited. They're like, oh, it doesn't need ketchup.
This is perfect.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
Oh and then West Virginia chili is also a topping
for something else here.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
Chili spaghetti is very popular.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
Chili spaghetti. Well, that's an ew one on me. Emerald said,
I had to try it.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
Herst taste was so good.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
Yes, I just never would have thought about hot dog, chili,
cheese and spaghetti, but it is so good.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
There's great. Another one of our regular choice spaghetti with
onions as usual. We know everybody who comes in pretty much.

Speaker 5 (05:04):
That's the best thing about this is the community, the
people that come in here.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
The little town of Faith is more than one hundred
years old, started by a man who came to the
area and said he would start a business on faith.
What you need today, Well, Shelley Yost knows what that's
all about. All those years ago in West Virginia. She
was just sure her cinnamon rolls and chili recipe would
be a great way to make a living.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
It's comfort food. It makes people very.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Happy, and that's the real secret here. I like the
pepperoni roll a family that loves working together, serving up
there one of a kind recipes.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
I get to hang out with my mom. I get
to make delicious snacks.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
Emerald Yost says, no question, she grew up in the
perfect family business.

Speaker 3 (05:47):
Nobody's ever mad at you when you feed them a
cookie or cinnamon bun. These buns, they are just to
die for. I love it. I feel like the Yoasty's heiress.
Come on up, what you need today?

Speaker 2 (05:58):
Talk about a happy play? And I brought you guys
some of the cinnamon rolls. So what do you think
I'll say, talk about a happy place?

Speaker 1 (06:06):
No, this is amazing. So I was waiting until the
end of the story because I wanted to hear all
about the chili and the chili spaghetti before I took
a bite. But I have cut a gigantic bite off
of this, So hold on, we're gonna taste this live.
But how sweet are you that you brought us an
entire tray of cinnamon buns?

Speaker 2 (06:23):
Well, both threatened me. If I didn't, I said, good
on you, bo.

Speaker 4 (06:29):
I said, Mark, I mean, I love all these places
that you go, and these stories are amazing, but bring
us something back.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
But the thing about these days are just so full
of cinnamon and they're gooey and they're sweet, yes, yes.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
But there's something that's different, almost like it's almost like
they're sitting in carmel.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Or something so good.

Speaker 4 (06:44):
When I was in grade school at East Over Elementary,
I used to plan my days. I take my launch
most of the time, but I would buy on the
days they had the sweet rolls that they made for dessert.
And this is the highest compliment I could give to
what you brought us. It reminds me of those I
don't know what it was about that school and that time,
but they were just different. They tasted different, and I

(07:05):
feel like I'm back in grade school in the best
possible way.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
Mark, Oh, awesome. So well. Yosti's is in the little
town of Faith. It's about forty five minutes from Charlotte.
They're open ten to three Tuesday through Saturday.

Speaker 1 (07:16):
And I'm so excited that you pointed out the chili
on spaghetti. I mean, that's a thing.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
And realize something. It is really good.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
It's a thing people should try because if you have
some yummy chili and then you put a bunch of
shredded cheddar cheese and like that guy ordered some onion
on there, Oh, that is some eating that will just
eat your face right off.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
Next week, Mark can bring us lunch.

Speaker 4 (07:36):
He brought you a tray of hot talks from yesterday
in his car. Well, these sweet rolls are I'm already
telling you one bite. I'm telling you this is the
best one I've ever had. Thank you, Marka.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
There are different guys. These are different and in good
different likes. It's better than cinneba is it?

Speaker 2 (07:51):
Eat your face off?

Speaker 1 (07:52):
Eat your face right off.
