Com especial interesse nas relações internacionais do país e na lusofonia, Balsemão lembra a preocupação prioritária com Timor-Leste e a impotência de Portugal perante a ocupação indonésia, e ainda a primeira visita oficial de um Primeiro-ministro português a Moçambique, a vinda de Samora Machel a Portugal também em visita oficial, e, por fim, a relação com Macau.
“Lembro também o apoio que, no Expresso, demos à causa timorense, procurando não a deixar cair em termos jornalísticos e também acolhendo, na Rua Duque de Palmela, os exilados políticos. Ramos-Horta ainda hoje lembra esses tempo em que a sede do Expresso era uma espécie de abrigo para ele e alguns mais”, refere o autor.
